بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

ألف لامين

Alif Lam Meem

ذلك الكتاب لا ريب فيه

That book there is no doubt in it.

هدى للمتقين

Guidance for the righteous.

الذين يؤمنون بالغيب ويقيمون الصلاة

Those who believe in the unseen and establish prayer.

ومما رزقناهم ينفقون

And from what We have provided for them, they spend.

والذين يؤمنون بما أنزل إليك

And those who believe in what has been revealed to you.

وما أنزل من قبلك وبالآخرة

"And what was revealed before you and the Hereafter."

هم يوقنون

They are certain.

أولئك على هدى من ربهم

Those are on guidance from their Lord.

وأولئك ومنهم

And those, among them

إن الذين كفروا سواء عليهم أأنذرتهم أم لم تنذرهم لا يؤمنون

Indeed, those who disbelieve - it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe.

ختم الله على قلوبهم وعلى سمعهم وعلى أبصارهم غشاوة ولهم عذاب عظيم

God has sealed their hearts and their ears, and there is a covering over their eyes; they will have a great punishment.

ومن الناس من يقول آمنا بالله وباليوم الآخر وما هم بمؤمنين

And among the people are those who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but they are not believers.

يخادعون الله والذين آمنوا وما يخدعون إلا أنفسهم وما يشعرون

They seek to deceive Allah and those who believe, but they only deceive themselves and do not perceive it.

في قلوبهم مرض فزادهم الله

In their hearts is a disease, so Allah increased them.

ومن يقول آمنا بالله وباليوم الآخر وما هم بمؤمنين

"And those who say, 'We have believed in Allah and the Last Day,' while they are not believers."

ولهم عذاب أليم بما كانوا يكذبون

"And they will have a painful punishment for what they used to deny."

وإذا قيل لهم لا تفسدوا في الأرض قالوا إنما نحن مصلحون

And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption in the land," they say, "We are but reformers."

ألا إنهم هم المفسدون ولكن لا يشعرون

Indeed, they are the corrupt ones, but they do not perceive it.

وإذا قيل لهم لا تفسدوا في الأرض قالوا إنما نحن مصلحون

And when it is said to them, "Do not corrupt the earth," they say, "We are but reformers."

وإذا قيل لهم آمنوا كما آمن الناس قالوا أنؤمن كما آمن السفهاء

And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Shall we believe as the fools have believed?"

ألا إنهم هم السفهاء ولكن لا يعلمون

"Indeed, they are the foolish ones, but they do not know."

وإذا نقل الذين آمنوا قالوا آمنا

And when those who believed are asked, they say, "We have believed."

وإذا خلوا إلى شياطينهم قالوا إنا معكم إنما نحن مستهزئون

"And when they are alone with their devils, they say, 'Indeed, we are with you; we are only mocking.'"

الله يستهزئ بهم ويمدهم في طغيانهم يعمهون

Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression while they wander blindly.

أولئك الذين اشتروا الضلالة بالهدى

Those who have bought misguidance with guidance.

فما ربحهم منهم وما ربحهم منهم

So what did they gain from them and what did they gain from them?

وما ربحت تجارتهم وما كانوا مهتدين

And their trade did not profit them, nor were they guided.

مثلهم كمثل الذي استوقد نارا فلما أضاءت ما حوله

Their example is like that of one who kindled a fire; when it illuminated what was around him...

ذهب الله بنورهم وتركهم في ظلمات لا يبصرون

God took away their light and left them in darkness, unable to see.

صم بكم عمي فهم لا يرجعون

Deaf, dumb, and blind; they will not return.

أو كصيب من السماء فيه ظلمات ورعد وبرق

"Or like a rainstorm from the sky in which there is darkness, thunder, and lightning."

يجعلون أصابعهم في آذانهم من الصواحق حذر الموت

They put their fingers in their ears to avoid the loud noise, fearing death.

والله محيطاً

And God is surrounding.

ومحيطاً بالكافرين

"And surrounding the disbelievers."

يكاد البرق يغطف أبصارهم

The lightning almost blinds their eyes.

كلما أضاء لهم مشوا فيه

Whenever it lights up for them, they walk in it.

وإذا أظلم عليهم قاموا

And if it becomes dark for them, they stand.

ولو شاء الله لذهب بسمعهم وأبصارهم

"And if Allah had willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight."

إذا أظلم عليهم قاموا

If it became dark for them, they stood up.

إن الله على كل شيء قدير

Indeed, Allah is capable of all things.

يا أيها الناس اعبدوا ربكم الذي خلقكم والذين من قبلكم لعلكم تتقون

O mankind, worship your Lord who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous.

الذي جعل لكم الأرض فراشاً والسماء بناءاً

"Who made the earth a bed for you and the sky a canopy."

وأنزل من السماء ماءاً

And He sent down water from the sky.

فأخرج به من الثمرات رزقاً لكم

"And He brought forth from it fruits as a provision for you."

فلا تجعلون الله أنداداً وأنتم تعلمون

"Do not make partners with Allah while you know [that there is nothing comparable to Him]."

وإن كنتم في ريب من الله

And if you are in doubt about Allah

فإنما نزلنا على عبدنا فأتوا بسورة من مثله

"We have certainly sent it down to Our Servant; so bring forth a chapter like it."

ودعوا شهداءكم من دون الله إن كنتم صادقين

"And call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be among the truthful."

فإن لم تفعلوا ولن تفعلوا فاتقوا الناس

If you do not do it, and you will not do it, then beware of the people.

فاتقوا النار التي وقودها الناس والحجارة

So fear the Fire whose fuel is people and stones.

أعدت للكافرين

Prepared for the disbelievers.

وبشر الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات

"And give good news to those who have believed and done righteous deeds."

أن لهم جنات تجري من تحتها الأمهات

"That they have gardens beneath which rivers flow."

كلما رزقوا منها من ثمرة رزقاً قالوا

Whenever they are provided with a fruit from it as provision, they say...

قالوا هذا الذي رزقنا من قبل

They said, "This is what we were provided with before."

وأتوا به متشابها

And they brought it similar.

ولهم فيها أزواج مطهرة

And they will have therein pure spouses.

وهم فيها خالدون

And they will remain therein forever.

إن الله لا يستحي أن يضرب مثلاً ما بعوضة فما فوقها

Indeed, Allah does not shy away from setting forth an example, even if it is that of a mosquito or what is beyond it.

فأما الذين آمنوا فيعلمون أنه الحق من ربهم

As for those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord.

وأما الذين كفروا فيقولون ماذا أراد الله بهذا مثلا

As for those who disbelieve, they say, "What did Allah intend by this example?"

يضل به كثيرا ويهدي به كثيرا

He misguides many with it, and guides many with it.

وما يضل به إلا الفاسقين

"And none misguides by it except the defiantly disobedient."

الذين ينقضون عهد الله من بعد ميثاقه ويقطعون ما أمر الله به أن يوصل ويفسدون في الأرض

Those who break the covenant of Allah after its confirmation, cut what Allah has commanded to be connected, and spread corruption in the land.

أولئك هم الخاسرون

They are the losers.

كيف تكفرون بالله وكنتم

How do you disbelieve in Allah while you were?

أمواتا فأحياكم

He brought you to life after you were dead.

ثم يميتكم ثم يحييكم

Then He causes you to die, then He gives you life.

ثم إليه ترجعون

"And to Him you will be returned."

هو الذي خلق لكم ما في الأرض جميعا

He is the One who created for you what is in the earth, all of it.

ثم استوى إلى السماء

Then He rose to the heaven.

فسواهن سبع سماوات

So He fashioned them into seven heavens.

وهو بكل شيء عليم

And He is All-Knowing of everything.

وإذ قال ربك للملائكة

"And when your Lord said to the angels..."

إني جاعل في الأرض خليفة

"Indeed, I am making a vicegerent on earth."

قالوا أتجعل فيها من يفسد فيها ويسفك الدماء

They said, "Will You place therein those who cause corruption and shed blood?"

ونحن نسبح بحمدك ونقدس لك

And we glorify You with praise and sanctify You.

قال إني أعلم ما لا تعلمون

He said, "Indeed, I know what you do not know."

وعلم آدم الأسماء كلها

And He taught Adam the names all of them.

ثم عرضهم على الملائكة

Then He presented them to the angels.

فقال أنبئوني بأمريكا

He said, "Inform me about America."

أسماء هؤلاء إن كنتم صادقين

The names of these people, if you are truthful.

قالوا سبحانك لا علم لنا إلا ما علمتنا

They said, "Glory be to You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us."

إنك أنت العليم الحكيم

Indeed, You are the All-Knowing, the Most Wise.

قال يا آدم أنت

He said, "O Adam, you are..."

أنبئهم بأسمائهم

Tell them their names.

فلما أنبأهم بأسمائهم

So when he informed them of their names.

قال ألم أقل لكم

He said, "Did I not tell you?"

إني أعلم غيب السماوات والأرض

"I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth."

وأعلم ما تبدون وما كنتم

"And I know what you reveal and what you were."

أنبئينا وقل بسعادة

Tell us and say with happiness.

وأحرمنا أن تفلحوا

"And we have forbidden you to succeed."

فقال هؤلاء أحبطوا وما كنتم تكتمون

He said, "These have failed, along with what you used to conceal."

وإذ قلنا للملائكة اسجدوا لآدم فسجدوا

And when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," they prostrated.

فسجدوا إلا إبليس أبا واستكبر وكان من الكافرين

So they prostrated, except for Iblis; he refused and was arrogant and was among the disbelievers.

وقلنا يا آدم اسكن أنت وزوجك الجنة وكلا منهم يجب أن تسكنوا

And We said, "O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise, and eat from wherever you wish."

حيث شئتما ولا تقربا هذه الشجرة فتكونا من الظالمين

"Wherever you wish, but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers."

فأزل لهم الشيطان عنها فأخرجهما مما كان فيه

So the devil caused them to slip out of it and removed them from what they were in.

وقلنا اهبطوا بعضكم لبعض عدو ولكم في الأرض مستقر ومتاع إلى حين

And We said, "Descend, all of you, as enemies to one another. And for you on earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time."

فتلقى آدم من ربه كلمات فتاب عليه إنه هو التواب الرحيم

And Adam received words from his Lord, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, He is the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful.

قلنا اهبطوا منها جميعا

We said, "Descend from it all."

فإما

So either

يأتينكم مني هدا

This will come to you from me as a gift.

فمن تبع هدايا فلا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون

So those who follow guidance will have no fear, nor will they grieve.

والذين كفروا وكذبوا بآياتنا أولئك أصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

And those who disbelieved and denied our signs, they are the companions of the Fire; they will be therein forever.

يا بني إسرائيل

O Children of Israel

اذكروا نعمتي التي أنعمت عليكم

"Recall the favor that I have bestowed upon you."

وأوفوا بعهدي أوف بعهدكم وإيايا فارهبون

"Fulfill My covenant, I will fulfill your covenant, and fear Me."

وآمنوا بما أنزلتم صدقا لما معكم

"And believe in what I have revealed, confirming that which is with you."

ولا تكونوا أول كافر به

And do not be the first to disbelieve in it.

ولا تشتروا بما أنزلتم صدقا لما معكم

"And do not exchange My revealed verses for a small price."

ولا تكونوا أول كافر بآياتي ثمنا قليلا وإيايا فاتقون

"And do not be the first to disbelieve in My verses for a small price, and fear Me."

ولا تلبسوا الحق بالباطل وتكتموا الحق وأنتم تعلمون

"And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it]."

وأقيموا الصلاة وآتوا الزكاة واركعوا مع الراكعين

And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow.

أتأمرون الناس بالبر وتنصرونه

"Do you enjoin people to do good and forget yourselves?"

وانسون أنفسكم وأنتم تتلون الكتاب

"And forget yourselves while you recite the Book."

أفلا تعقلون

Do you not understand?

واستعينوا بالصبر والصلاة وإنها لكبيرة إلا على الخاشعين

"Seek help in patience and prayer, and truly it is a heavy burden except for the humble."

الذين يظنون أنهم ملاقوا ربهم

Those who think that they will meet their Lord.

وأنهم إليه راجعون

"And indeed, to Him we shall return."

يا بني إسرائيل اذكروا نعمتي التي أنعمت عليكم وأني فضلتكم على العالمين

O Children of Israel, remember My favor that I have bestowed upon you and that I preferred you over the worlds.

واتقوا يوما لا تجزي نفس عن نفس شيئا ولا يقبل منها شفاعة ولا يؤخذ منها عدل ولا هم ينصرون

And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all; and no intercession will be accepted from it, nor will compensation be taken from it, and they will not be aided.

وإذ نجيناكم من آل فرعون يسومونكم سوء العذاب يذبحون أبناءكم ويستحيون نساءكم

"And when We saved you from the family of Pharaoh, they were inflicting upon you the worst of punishment, slaughtering your sons and sparing your women."

وفي ذلك بلاء

And in that, there is a trial.

من ربكم عظيم

Your Lord is great.

وإذ فرقنا بكم البحر فأنجيناكم وأغرقنا آل فرعون وأنتم تنظرون

"And when We divided the sea for you and saved you, and drowned the people of Pharaoh while you were looking on."

وإذ وعدنا موسى أربعين ليلة ثم اتخذتم العجل من بعده وأنتم ظالمون

And when We appointed for Moses forty nights, then you took the calf after him and you were wrongdoers.

ثم عفونا عنكم من بعد ذلك لعلكم تشكرون

Then We pardoned you after that so that you might be grateful.

وإذ آتينا موسى الكتاب والفرقان لعلكم تهتدون

"And when We gave Moses the Scripture and the criterion that you may be guided."

وإذ قال موسى لقومه يا قوم إنكم ظلمتم أنفسكم باتخاذكم العجل فتوبون

And when Moses said to his people, "O my people, you have wronged yourselves by taking the calf, so repent."

إلى بارئكم فتوبوا

To your Creator, so repent.

إلى بارئكم فاقتلوا أنفسكم ذلكم خير لكم عند بارئكم

"To your Creator, kill yourselves; that is better for you with your Creator."

ذلكم خير لكم عند بارئكم فتاب عليكم إنه هو التواب الرحيم

That is better for you with your Lord, and He will forgive you; indeed, He is the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful.

وإذ قلتم

"And when you said..."

يا بارئكم

O Creator of you.

فموسى لن نؤمن لك حتى نرى الله جهرة فأخذتكم الصاعقة وأنتم تنظرون

"Moses, we will not believe you until we see God openly." So the thunderbolt seized you while you were looking on.

ثم بعثناكم من بعد موتكم لعلكم تشكرون

"Then We raised you up after your death, so that perhaps you would be grateful."

وظللنا عليكم الغمام وأنزلنا عليكم المن والسلوى

And We shaded you with the cloud and sent down to you manna and quails.

كلوا من طيبات ما رزقناكم وما ظلمونا ولكن كانوا أنفسهم يظلمون

"Eat of the good things We have provided for you, and they did not wrong Us, but they were themselves wrongdoing."

وإذ قلنا دخلوا هذه القرية فكلوا منها

"And when We said, 'Enter this village and eat from it.'"

فكلوا منها حيث شئتم رغدا ودخلوا الباب سجدا وقولوا حطة نغفر لكم خطاياكم وسنزيد المحسنين

"Eat from it wherever you wish in abundance, and enter the gate prostrating, and say 'Our Lord, relieve us of our burdens,' We will forgive your sins and increase the good-doers."

فبدل الذين ظلموا قولا غير الذي قيل لهم فأنزلنا على الذين ظلموا

"So those who wronged changed their words to a different one than that which had been said to them, so We sent down upon those who wronged..."

فقالوا رجزا من السماء بما كانوا يفسقون

They said, "A punishment from the sky for what they used to transgress."

وإذ استسقى موسى لقومه فقلنا اضرب بعصاك الحجر

And when Moses asked for water for his people, We said, "Strike with your staff the stone."

فانفجرت منه اثنتا عشرة عينا

"And twelve springs burst forth from it."

قد علم كل أناس مشربهم

"Every people knows their own way of life."

كلوا واشربوا من رزق الله

Eat and drink from the provision of God.

ولا تعثروا في الأرض مفسدين

"And do not cause corruption in the land."

وإذ قلتم يا موسى لن نصبر على طعام واحد

"And when you said, O Moses, 'We can no longer endure one food.'"

فدعوا لنا ربك يخرج لنا مما تنبت الأرض من بقلها وقفائها وفومها وعدسها وبصلها

"Then call upon your Lord to bring forth for us from what the earth grows of its vegetables, its cucumbers, its garlic, its lentils, and its onions."

وإذ قلتم يا موسى لن نصبر على طعام واحد

"When you said, O Moses, we can no longer endure one food."

قال أتستبدنون الذي هو أدنى بالذي هو خير

He said, "Do you exchange what is inferior for what is better?"

اخبطوا مصرا فإن لكم ما سألتم

"Beat Misr, for you will have what you asked for."

وضربت عليهم الذلة والمسكنة وباءوا بغضب من الله

"And humiliation and poverty were struck upon them, and they returned with anger from Allah."

ذلك بأنهم كانوا يكفرون

That is because they were disbelieving.

بآيات الله ويقتلون النبيين بغير الحق

"By the verses of God, and they kill the prophets unjustly."

ذلك بما عصوا وكانوا يعتدون

That is because they disobeyed and were transgressing.

إن الذين آمنوا والذين هادوا والنصارى والصابئين

Indeed, those who have believed, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians.

من آمن بالله واليوم الآخر وعمل صالحا

Whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does righteous deeds.

فلهم أجرهم عند ربهم ولا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون

For them is their reward with their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor will they grieve.

وإذ أخذنا ميثاقكم ورفعنا فوقكم الطور خذوا ما آتيناكم بقوة واذكروا ما فيه لعلكم تتقون

"And when We took your covenant and raised the mountain above you, [saying], 'Take what We have given you with strength and remember what is in it that perhaps you may become righteous.'"

ثم توليتم من بعد ذلك فلولا فض الله عليكم ورحمته لكنتم من الخاسرين

Then you turned away after that; if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, you would have been among the losers.

ولقد علمتم الذين اعتدوا منكم في السبت فقلنا لهم كونوا قردة خاسئين

And indeed, you have known those who transgressed among you concerning the Sabbath, so we said to them, "Be apes, despised."

فجعلناها نكالا لما بين يرسلون

"So We made it a deterrent for those who would come after."

وإذ قال موسى لقومه إن الله يأمركم أن تذبحوا بقرة

And when Moses said to his people, "Indeed, Allah commands you to slaughter a cow."

قالوا أتتخذنا هزوا قال أعوذ بالله أن أكون من الجاهلين

They said, "Do you take us in jest?" He replied, "I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant."

قالوا دعوا لنا ربك يبين لنا أننا نحن أحسنون

They said, "Call upon your Lord to clarify for us if we are indeed the best."

قال إنه يقول إنها بقرة لا فارض ولا بكر عوان بين ذلك فافعلوا ما تؤمرون

He said that it is a cow that is neither too old nor too young, a middle-aged one. So do what you are commanded.

قالوا دعوا لنا ربك يبين لنا ما لونها

They said, "Ask your Lord to make clear to us what its color is."

قال إنه يقول إنها بقرة صفراء

He said that he says it is a yellow cow.

قالوا دعوا لنا ربك يبين لنا ما لونها

They said, "Call upon your Lord to make clear to us what her color is."

الله لمهتدون

God is guiding them.

قال إنه يقول إنها بقرة لا ذنون تثير الأرض ولا تسقي الحرث مسلمة لا شيئة فيها

He said it is a cow that does not plow the earth nor irrigate the crops, a sound one with no blemish in it.

قالوا الآن جئت بالحق فذبحوها وما كادوا يفعلون

They said, "Now you have come with the truth," and they slaughtered her, and they barely did it.

وإذ قتلتم نفسا فادارعتم فيها والله مخرج ما كنتم تكتمون

"And when you killed a soul, you were seeking to hide it, but Allah will bring to light what you were concealing."

فقلنا اضربوه ببعضها كذلك يحيي الله الموتى ويريكم آياته لعلكم تعقلون

So we said, "Strike him with a piece of it." Thus Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His signs that you might understand.

ثم قست قلوبكم من بيئة

"Then your hearts became hard as stone."

بعد ذلك فهي كالحجارة أو أشد قسوة

"After that, they are like stones or even harder."

وإن من الحجارة لما يتفجر منه الأنهار

"And indeed, among the rocks are some from which rivers burst forth."

وإن منها لما يشقق فيخرج منه الماء

"Among them are some that split open and from them water flows."

وإن منها لما يحبط من خشية الله

"And some of it is what is nullified due to the fear of God."

وما الله بغافل عنه

And God is not unaware of it.

وما تعملون

And whatever you do.

أفتطمعون أن يؤمنوا لكم

Do you covet that they would believe in you?

وقد كان فريق منهم يسمعون كلام الله

And there was a group of them who used to listen to the words of God.

ثم يحرفونه من بعد ما عقلوا وهم يعلمون

Then they distort it after they have understood it, while they know.

وإذا نقل لكم

And if it is conveyed to you

الذين آمنوا قالوا آمنا

Those who believed said, "We have believed."

وإذا خلى بعضهم إلى بعض قالوا

"And when they are alone with each other, they say..."

أتحدثونهم بما فتح الله عليكم

"Do you speak to them about what Allah has bestowed upon you?"

ليحاجوكم به عند ربكم

"To argue with you before your Lord."

أفلا تعقلون

Do you not understand?

أولا يعلمون أن الله يعلم ما يسرون وما يعلنون

"Do they not know that Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare?"

ومنهم أميون لا يعلمون الكتاب إلا أماني وإنهم إلا يظنون

And among them are the illiterate who do not know the Scripture except for wishful thinking, and they only conjecture.

فويل للذين يكتبون الكتاب بأيها

Woe to those who write the book with their own hands.

ثم يقولون هذا من عند الله ليشتروا به ثمنا قليلا

Then they say, "This is from Allah," to exchange it for a cheap price.

فويل لهم مما كتبت أيديهم وويل لهم مما يكسبون

So woe to them for what their own hands have written, and woe to them for what they earn.

وقالوا لن تمسنا النار إلا أياما معدودة

And they said, "The Fire will not touch us except for a few numbered days."

قل أتخذتم عند الله عهدا فلن يخلف الله عهده

Say, "Have you taken a covenant with Allah? Then Allah will not break His covenant."

أم تقولون على الله ما لا تعلمون

"Or do you say about Allah that which you do not know?"

بلى من كسب سيئة وأخاطت به قطيئته

Yes, whoever earns an evil deed and is surrounded by their sin.

فأولئك أصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

والذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات أولئك أصحاب الجنة هم فيها خالدون

And those who believed and did righteous deeds, they are the companions of Paradise; they will abide therein eternally.

وإذ أخذنا ميثاق بني إسرائيل لا تعبدون

"And when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel: 'Do not worship...'"

وبالوالدين إحسانا وذي القربى واليتامى والمساكين

And do good to parents, relatives, orphans, and the needy.

وقولوا للناس حسنا وأقيموا الصلاة وآتوا الزكاة

And speak to the people good [words] and establish prayer and give zakah.

ثم توليتم إلا قليلا منهم

Then you turned away, except for a few of you.

وأنتم معرضون

And you are turning away.

وإذ أخذنا ميثاقكم لا تسفكون دماءكم

"And when We took your covenant, 'Do not shed your blood.'"

ولا تخرجون أنفسكم من دياركم

And do not expel yourselves from your homes.

ثم أقررتم وأنتم تشهدون

Then you have decided while you are witnessing.

ثم أنتم هؤلاء تقتلون أنفسكم وتخرجون فريقا منكم من ديارهم

Then you are those who kill yourselves and drive out a group of you from their homes.

تظاهرون عليهم بالإثم والعدوان

You protest against them with sin and aggression.

وإن يأتوكم أسارا تفادوهم وهو محرم عليكم

"If they come to you as captives, you must ransom them, but it is forbidden for you."

إخراجهم أفتؤمنون ببعض الكتاب وتكفرون ببعض

"Will you then believe in part of the Book and disbelieve in part?"

فما جزاء من يفعل ذلك منكم إلا خزي في الحياة الدنيا

So what is the reward for anyone among you who does that, except for disgrace in this worldly life?

ويوم القيامة يردون إلى أشد العذاب

And on the Day of Judgment, they will be returned to the severest punishment.

وما الله بغافل عما تعملون

And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

أولئك الذين اشتروا الحياة الدنيا بالآخرة

Those who have bought the worldly life at the expense of the Hereafter.

فلا يخفف عنهم العذاب ولا هم ينصرون

"Neither will the punishment be lightened for them, nor will they be helped."

ولقد آتينا موسى الكتاب وقفينا من بعده بالرسل

And We gave Moses the Book, and We followed him with messengers.

وآتينا عيسى بن مريم البينات وأيضا

"And We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear signs and also..."

ويدناه بروح القدس

"And He has brought us together with the Holy Spirit."

أفكلما جاءكم رسول بما لا تهوى أنفسكم استكبرتم

So whenever a messenger comes to you with what your souls do not desire, you become arrogant?

ففريقا كذبتم وفريقا تقتلون

So one group you have lied, and another group you kill.

وقالوا قلوبنا غلف بل لعنهم الله بكفرهم

And they said, "Our hearts are covered." Instead, Allah has cursed them for their disbelief.

ولما يؤمنون

And when they believe.

ولما جاءهم كتاب من عند الله مصدق لما معهم

And when a Book came to them from Allah, confirming what was with them.

وكانوا من قبل يستفتحون على الذين كفروا

And they used to seek victory over those who disbelieved.

فلما جاءهم ما عرفوا كفروا به

"But when what they recognized came to them, they disbelieved in it."

فلعنة الله

So, may the curse of God be upon you.

على الكافرين

Upon the disbelievers.

بئس ما اشتروا به أنفسهم أن يكفروا بما أنزل الله

Wretched is what they have sold their souls for, that they should disbelieve in what Allah has revealed.

بغيا أن ينزل الله من فضله على من يشاء من عباده

"Desiring that Allah should send down from His bounty upon whom He wills of His servants."

فباءوا بغضب على غضب

They came back with anger upon anger.

وللكافرين عذاب منه

"And for the disbelievers is a punishment from it."

وإذا قيل لهم آمنوا بما أنزل الله

And when it is said to them, "Believe in what Allah has revealed."

قالوا نؤمن بما أنزل علينا

They said, "We believe in what has been revealed to us."

ويكفرون بما وراءه

And they disbelieve in what is beyond it.

وهو الحق مصدقا لما معهم

"And it is the truth, confirming what is with them."

قل فلم تقتلون أنبياء الله

Say, "Then why do you kill the prophets of Allah?"

من قبل إن كنتم مؤمنين

Before, if you were believers.

ولقد جاءكم موسى بالبينات

And indeed, Moses came to you with clear signs.

ثم اتخذتم العجل من بعده

Then you took the calf after him.

وأنتم ظالمون

And you are the unjust.

وإذ أخذنا ميثاقكم ورفعنا فوقكم الطور

"And when We took your covenant and raised the Mount above you."

خذوا منه وقالوا أخذوا منه

They took from him and said they took from him.

وقالوا ما آتيناكم بقوة واسمعوا

And they said, "We have not given you power; listen."

قالوا سمعنا وعصينا وأشربوا في قلوبهم العجل بكفرهم

They said, "We have heard and we disobeyed," and their hearts were infused with the love of the calf because of their disbelief.

قل بئس ما يأمركم به إيمانكم إن كنتم مؤمنين

Say, "Evil is that which your faith commands you, if you are indeed believers."

قل إن كانت لكم الدار الآخرة

Say, "If the Hereafter is for you..."

ولن يتمنوا عند الله خالصة من دون الناس

And they will not wish for anything before Allah, solely without the people.

فتمنوا الموت إن كنتم صادقين

So wish for death if you are truthful.

ولن يتمنوه أبدا بما قدمت أيديهم

And they will never wish for it because of what their own hands have sent forth.

والله عليم بالظالمين

And Allah is All-Knowing of the wrongdoers.

وإذنهم أحرص الناس على حياة ومن الذين أسركون

And they are the most eager of people for life, among those whom you have captured.

يود أحدهم لو يعمر ألف سنة

One of them wishes to live for a thousand years.

وما هو بمزحزحه من العذاب أن يعمر

And what will save him from punishment if he lives long?

والله بصير بما يعملون

Surely, Allah is All-Seer of what they do.

قل من كان عدوه

Say, "Who is his enemy?"

لجبريل فإنه نزله على قلبك بإذن الله

"To Gabriel, indeed, He brought it down upon your heart by permission of Allah."

بإذن الله مصدقا لما بين يديه وهدى وبشرى للمؤمنين

By God's permission, confirming what is before it and a guidance and good tidings for the believers.

من كان عدوا لله وملائكته ورسله وجبريل وميكال

Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and His messengers, and Gabriel and Michael...

فإن الله عدوه

"Surely, God is his enemy."

للكافرين

For the disbelievers.

ولقد أنزلنا إليك آيات بينات

And indeed, We have sent down to you clear verses.

وما يكفر بها إلا الفاسقون

"And none deny it except the transgressors."

أو كلما عاهدوا عهدا نبذه فريق منهم

"Or whenever they made a covenant, a group of them discarded it."

بل أكثرهم لا يؤمنون

But most of them do not believe.

ولما جاءهم رسول من عند الله مصدق لما معهم

And when a messenger came to them from Allah confirming what was with them.

نبذ فريق من الذين أوتوا الكتاب كتاب الله وراء ظهورهم كأنهم لا يعلمون

A group of those who were given the Scripture have thrown the Book of Allah behind their backs, as if they did not know.

واتبعوا ما تتل الشياطين على الأرض

"And they followed what the devils recited during the reign of Solomon."

وما ملك سليمان

And what Solomon possessed.

وما كفر سليمان

And Solomon was not ungrateful.

ولكن الشياطين كفروا

But the devils disbelieved.

يعلمون الناس السحر

They teach people magic.

وما أنزل على الملكين بباب نهاروت وماروت

"And what was sent down to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut."

وما يعلمان من أحد حتى يقولا

"And they do not teach anyone until they say..."

إنما نحن في التاريخ

We are merely in history.

فلا تكفر

So do not disbelieve.

فيتعلمون منهما ما يفرقون به بين المرء وزوجه

So they learn from them that by which they can cause separation between a man and his wife.

وما هم بضارين به من أحد إلا بإذن الله

"And they cannot harm anyone except with God's permission."

ويتعلمون ما يضرهم ولا ينفعهم

And they learn what harms them and does not benefit them.

ولقد علمون من اشتراه ماله في الآخرة

"And they have certainly known who bought it his wealth in the Hereafter."

من خلاق

Who is creative

ولبئس ما شروا به أنفسهم لو كانوا يعلمون

And how evil is that for which they have sold themselves, if they only knew.

ولو أنهم آمنوا واتقوا

"And if they had believed and been mindful (of God)..."

لما ثوبة من عند الله خير

When repentance is from God, it is good.

لو كانوا يعلمون

If only they knew.

يا أيها الذين آمنوا

O you who have believed

لا تقولوا راعينا

Do not say "Ra'ina."

وقولوا درما واسمعوا

And say "drama" and listen.

وللكافرين عذاب أليم

"And for the disbelievers is a painful punishment."

ما يود الذين كفروا من أهل الكتاب

Those who disbelieve among the People of the Book wish that you would disbelieve.

ولا المشركين أن ينزل عليكم من خير من ربكم

"Nor the polytheists that any good from your Lord should descend upon you."

والله يختص برحمته من يشاء

"And Allah selects for His mercy whom He wills."

والله ذو الفضل العظيم

And indeed, Allah is the Possessor of great bounty.

ما ننسخ من آية أو ننسها

"We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten."

نأت بخير منها أو مثلها

"She distanced herself for her own good or for a similar reason."

ألم تعلم أن الله على كل شيء قدير

"Did you not know that God is capable of all things?"

ألم تعلم أن الله له ملك السماوات والأرض

"Did you not know that Allah has sovereignty over the heavens and the earth?"

وما لكم منه

"And what do you have from it?"

دون الله من ولي ولا نصير

There is no protector or supporter except for God.

أم تريدون أن تسألوا رسولكم كما سئل موسى من قبل

Or do you want to ask your Messenger as Moses was asked before?

ومن يتبدل الكفر بالإيمان فقد ضل سواء السبيل

And whoever exchanges disbelief for faith has surely gone astray from the soundness of the way.

ود كثير من أهل الكتاب لو يردون

Many of the People of the Book wish that they could turn you back to disbelief.

من بعد إيمانكم كفارا حسدا من عند أنفسهم

"After their faith, out of envy from themselves, they became disbelievers."

حسدا من عند أنفسهم من بعد ما تبين لهم الحق

Envy from their own selves after the truth had become clear to them.

فاعفوا واصفحوا حتى يأتي الله بأمره

"Then forgive and overlook until Allah brings about His command."

إن الله على كل شيء قدير

Indeed, God is capable of all things.

وأقيموا الصلاة وآتوا الزكاة وما تقدموا لأنفسكم من خير تجدوه عند الله

"And establish prayer and give zakah, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves, you will find it with Allah."

إن الله بما تعملون بصير

Indeed, Allah is All-Seer of what you do.

وقالوا لن يدخل الجنة إلا من كان هودا أو نصارا

And they said, "No one will enter Paradise except one who is a Jew or a Christian."

تلك أمانيهم قل هاتوا برهانكم إن كنتم صادقين

"Those are their wishes. Say, 'Bring your proof if you are truthful.'"

بلى من أسلم وجهه لله وهو محسن فله أجوه عند ربه ولا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون

"Indeed, whoever surrenders his face to Allah while being a doer of good, will have his reward with his Lord, and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve."

وقالت اليهود ليست النصارى على شيء وهم يتلون الكتاب

And the Jews said, "The Christians are not based on anything," while they recite the Scripture.

كذلك قال الذين لا يعلمون مثل قولهم

Likewise, those who do not know said the same as their saying.

فالله يحكم بينهم يوم القيامة فيما كانوا فيه يختلفون

"Indeed, Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that in which they used to differ."

من منع مساجد الله أن يذكر فيها اسمه وسعى في خرابها

Whoever prevents the mosques of Allah from being mentioned in His name and strives to demolish them.

أولئك ما كان لهم أن يدخلوها إلا خائفين

Those were not meant to enter it except in fear.

لهم في الدنيا خزي ولهم في الآخرة عذاب عظيم

They have disgrace in this world, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.

الله المشرق والمغرب فأينما تولوا فثم وجه الله

Allah is the East and the West, so wherever you turn, there is the Face of Allah.

إن الله واسع عليم

Indeed, Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.

وقالوا اتخذ الله ولدا سبحانه بل له ما في السماوات والأرض كل له قانتون

And they said, "Allah has taken a son." Exalted is He! Rather, to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth; all are devoutly obedient to Him.

بديع السماوات والأرض وإذا قضى

The Creator of the heavens and the earth, and when He decrees.

أمرا فإنما يقول له كن فيكون

"Indeed, when He intends a matter, He simply says to it, 'Be,' and it is."

وقال الذين لا يعلمون لولا يكلمنا الله أو تأتينا آية

And those who do not know said, "If only Allah would speak to us or a sign would come to us."

كذلك قال الذين من قبلهم مثل قولهم

Those before them also said the same as their saying.

تشابهت قلوبهم قد بينا الآيات لهم

Their hearts have become similar; we have clarified the signs to them.

ودينا أحبائهم فهمتهم ودعوه وحبوا وقالوا

"And we gave them their loved ones; they understood him and invited him, and they loved and said."

إنا أرسلناك بالحق بشيرا ونذيرا

Indeed, We have sent you with the truth as a bearer of good tidings and a warner.

ولا تسأل عن أصحاب الجحيم

And do not ask about the companions of Hell.

ولن ترضى عنك اليهود ولا النصارى حتى تتبع ملتهم

"And the Jews and Christians will not be pleased with you until you follow their religion."

قل إن هدى الله هو الهدى

Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the [true] guidance."

ولئن اتبعت أهواءهم بعد الذي جاءك من العلم ما لك من الله من ولي ولا نصير

And if you follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you will not have from Allah any protector or helper.

الذين آتيناهم الكتاب يتلونه حق تناوته أولئك يؤمنون به ومن يكفر به فأولئك هم الخاسرون

Those whom We have given the Book recite it with its due recitation; it is they who truly believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it - those are the losers.

يا بني إسرائيل اذكروا نعمتي التي أنعمت عليكم وأني حكيم

O Children of Israel, remember My favor that I have bestowed upon you and that I am Wise.

وأنا فضلتكم على العالمين

"And I have preferred you over the worlds."

واتقوا يوما لا تجزي نفس عن نفس شيئا ولا يقبل منها عدل ولا تنفعها شفاعة ولا هم ينصرون

And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all, and no compensation will be accepted from it, nor will intercession benefit it, and they will not be supported.

وإذ ابتلى إبراهيم ربه

And when Ibrahim was tested by his Lord.

بكلمات فأتمهن قال إني جاعلك للناس إماما

With words, He completed them, saying, "Indeed, I am making you an imam for the people."

قال ومن ذريتي قال لا ينال عهد الظالمين

He said, "And of my descendants?" He said, "My covenant does not include the wrongdoers."

وإذ جعلنا البيت مثابة للناس وأمنا واتخذوا من مقام إبراهيم مصيرا

"And when We made the House a place of return for the people and a sanctuary, and take the station of Abraham as a place of prayer."

وعيدنا إلى إبراهيم وإسماعيل أن طهر بيتي للطائفين والعاكفين

"And We appointed to Abraham and Ishmael that they purify My House for those who circumambulate it and those who are in the state of devotion."

والركع السجود

"And the bowing and prostration."

وإذ قال إبراهيم

And when Abraham said

رب اجعل هذا بلدا آمنا وارزق أهله من الثمرات من آمن منهم بالله واليوم الآخر

O Lord, make this a safe country and provide its inhabitants with fruits, those of them who believe in Allah and the Last Day.

قال ومن كفر فأمتعه قليلا ثم أضطره إلى عذاب النار

He said, "And whoever disbelieves, I will enjoy him for a little while; then I will drive him to the punishment of the Fire."

وبئسا

And woe.

وإذ يرفع إبراهيم القواعد من البيت وإسماعيل ربنا تقبل منا إنك أنت السميع العليم

"And when Abraham raised the foundations of the House, and Ishmael (prayed), 'Our Lord, accept this from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.'"

ربنا وجعلنا مسلمين لك ومن ذريتنا أمة مسلمة لك

Our Lord, and make us Muslims for You, and of our descendants a Muslim nation for You.

وأرنا مناسكنا وتب علينا إنك أنت التواب الرحيم

"And show us our rites, and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful."

ربنا وبعث فيهم رسولا منهم يتلو عليهم آياتك ويعلمهم الكتاب والحكمة ويزكيهم

Our Lord, and raise up among them a Messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and the wisdom, and purify them.

إنك أنت العزيزين

Indeed, You are the Almighty.

ومن يرغب عن ملة إبراهيم إلا من سفه نفسه

"And who turns away from the faith of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself."

ولقد اصطفيناه في الدنيا وإنه في الآخرة لمن الصالحين

And indeed, We have chosen him in this world, and he will be among the righteous in the Hereafter.

إذ قال له ربه أسلم قال أسلمت لرب العالمين

When his Lord said to him, "Submit," he said, "I have submitted to the Lord of the worlds."

وصى بها إبراهيم بنيه ويعقوب يا بني إن الله اصطفى لكم الدين

Ibrahim advised his sons, and so did Yaqub: "O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you the religion."

فلا تموتن إلا وأنتم مسلمون

So do not die except as Muslims.

أم كنتم شهداء إذ حضر يعقوب الموت

"Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob?"

إذ قال لبنيه ما تعبدون منكم

When he said to his sons, "What do you worship?"

بعدي قالوا نعبد إلهك وإله آبائك إبراهيم وإسماعيل وإسحاق إلها واحدا ونحن له مسلمون

"After me, they said, 'We will worship your God and the God of your forefathers, Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac, one God, and we are Muslims to Him.'"

تلك أمة قد قلت لها ما كسبت ولكم ما كسبتم

That is a nation that has passed away; it has what it earned, and you have what you earn.

ولا تسألوني لكم ما تسألوني لكم

And do not ask me what you are asking me.

ولا تسألون عما كانوا يعملون

And you will not be asked about what they used to do.

وقالوا كونوا هودا أو نصارى تهتدوا

And they said, "Become Jews or Christians, and you will be guided."

قل بل ملة إبراهيم حنيفا وما كان من المشركين

Say, "Indeed, the religion of Abraham was pure monotheism, and he was not of the polytheists."

قولوا آمنا بالله وما أنزل إلينا وما أنزل إلى إبراهيم وإسماعيل وإسماعيل وإسماعيل

Say, "We have believed in Allah and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants."

وإسحاق ويعقوب والأسباط وما أوتي موسى وعيسى وما أوتي النبيون من ربهم لا نفرق بين أحد منهم ونحن له مسلمون

"And Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and what Moses and Jesus were given, and what the prophets were given from their Lord; we make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims to Him."

فإن آمنوا بمثل ما آمنتم به فقد اهتدوا وإن تولوا فإنما هم في شقاق فسيكفيكهم الله وهو السميع العليم

"If they believe in the same as you have believed, then they are rightly guided; but if they turn away, they are indeed in opposition, and Allah will suffice you against them, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing."

صبغة الله ومن أحسن من الله صبغة ونحن له عابدون

The dye of Allah, and who is better than Allah in dye? And we are His worshippers.

قل أتحاجوننا في الله وهو ربنا وربكم ولنا أعمالنا ولكم أعمالكم ونحن له مخلصون

Say, "Are you disputing with us about God while He is our Lord and your Lord? For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. We are sincere to Him."

أم تقولون إن إبراهيم وإسماعيل وإسحاق ويعقوب والأسباط كانوا هودا أو نصارا

Or do you say that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes were Jews or Christians?

قل أنتم أعلمون

Say, "You know best."

ومن أظلم ممن كتم شهادة عنده من الله وما الله بغافل عما تعملون

And who is more unjust than one who conceals a testimony he has from Allah? And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

تلك أمة قد خلت لها ما كسبت ولكم ما كسبتم ولا تسألون عما كانوا يعملون

That was a nation that has passed away; it will have what it earned, and you will have what you earn, and you will not be asked about what they used to do.

سيقول السفهاء من الناس ما ولاهم عن قبلتهم التي كانوا عليها

"The foolish among the people will say, 'What has turned them away from their qibla to which they were accustomed?'"

قل لله المشرق والمغرب يهدي من يشاء إلى صراط مستقيم

Say, "To Allah belongs the east and the west; He guides whom He wills to a straight path."

وكذلك جعلناكم أمة وسطا لتكونوا شهداء على الناس ويقول الرسول عليكم شهيدا

"And thus We have made you a just nation, that you be witnesses over the people and the Messenger be a witness over you."

وما جعلنا القبلة التي كنت عليها إلا لنعلمون

"And We did not make the qibla that you were on except to distinguish those who follow the Messenger from those who turn on their heels."

ومن يتبع الرسول ممن ينقلب على عقبئه

"And whoever follows the Messenger among those who turn back on their heels."

وإن كانت لكبيرة إلا على الذين هدى الله

"And it is indeed great, except for those whom Allah has guided."

وما كان الله ليضيع إيمانكم

And Allah would not cause your faith to be lost.

إن الله بالناس مرءوف رحيم

Indeed, Allah is compassionate and merciful to people.

قد نرى تقلب وجده

We may see the fluctuations of his existence.

فلنولينك قبلة ترضاها

"Then we will turn you to a qibla that you will be pleased with."

فولي وجهك شطر المسجد الحرام

"Turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque."

وحيثما كنتم فولوا وجوهكم شطرة

"Wherever you are, turn your faces towards it."

وإن الذين أوتوا الكتاب ليعلمون أنه الحق من ربهم

"Indeed, those who were given the Scripture know that it is the truth from their Lord."

وما الله بغافل عن ما يعملون

And Allah is not unaware of what they do.

ولئن أتيت الذين أوتوا الكتاب بكل آية

"And if you brought to those who were given the Scripture every sign..."

ما تبعوا قبلتك

They did not follow your direction.

وما أنت بتابع قبلتهم

And you are not following their qibla.

وما بعضهم بتابع قبلة بعض

And some of them are not followers of the qibla of others.

ولئن أتيت الذين أوتوا الكتاب بكل آية

"And if you were to bring to those who were given the Scripture every sign..."

وإن اتبعت أهواءهم من بعد ما جاءك من العلم

"And if you follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge..."

إنك إذا لمن الظالمين

Indeed, you are certainly among the wrongdoers.

الذين آتيناهم الكتاب يعرفونه كما يعرفون أبناءهم

Those to whom We have given the Scripture know him as they know their own sons.

وإن فريقا منهم ليعرفونه

"Indeed, a group of them knows him."

ويكتمون الحق وهم يعلمون الحق من ربك

"And they conceal the truth while they know it is from your Lord."

فلا تكونن من الممترين

So do not be among those who doubt.

ولكل وجهة هو موليها

"To every direction, there is a destination he turns to."

فاستبخوا الخيرات

So race towards good deeds.

أينما تكونوا يأتي بكم الله جميعا

"Wherever you may be, God will bring you all together."

إن الله على كل شيء يحفظكم

Indeed, God protects you in all things.

ومن حيث خرجت فولي وجهك شطر المسجد الحرام

"Wherever you come from, turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque."

وإنه للحق من ربك

And indeed, it is the truth from your Lord.

وما الله بغافل عما تعملون

And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

ومن حيث خرجت فولي وجهك شطر المسجد الحرام

"And wherever you go out, turn your face toward the Sacred Mosque."

وحيث ما كنت تفعلينه

Wherever you were doing it.

فولوا وجوهكم شطره

"Turn your faces towards it."

لألا يكون للناس عليكم حجة

So that people have no excuse against you.

إلا الذين ظلموا منهم

Except for those who wronged among them.

فلا تخشوهم واخشوني

So do not fear them, but fear Me.

ولأتن نعمتي عليكم

"And do not deny My favor to you."

ولعلكم تهتدوني

"And perhaps you will guide me."

كما أرسلنا فيكم رسولا منكم

And as We have sent to you a messenger from among you.

يتلو عليكم آياتنا

He recites to you Our verses.

ويزكيكم ويعلمكم الكتاب والحكمة

And He purifies you and teaches you the Book and wisdom.

ويعلمكم ما لم تكونوا تعلمون

"And He teaches you what you did not know."

فاذكروني أنني أعلمكم

So remember Me, and I will remember you.

وأذكركم

And I remind you.

واشكروني ولا تكفرون

And be grateful to me, and do not disbelieve.

يا أيها الذين آمنوا

O you who have believed

استعينوا بالصبر والصلاة

Seek help through patience and prayer.

إن الله مع الصابرين

Indeed, Allah is with the patient.

ولا تقولوا لمن يقتل في سبيل الله أموات

And do not say of those who are killed in the way of God, "They are dead."

بل أحياناً

But sometimes

ولكن لا تشعرون

But you don't feel.

ولنبلونكم بشيء من الخوف والجوع

"And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger."

ونقص من الأموال والأنفس والثمرات

"And (We will make) a decrease in wealth, lives, and fruits."

وبشر الصابرين

And give good tidings to the patient.

الذين إذا أصابتهم

Those who, when calamity strikes them

وهم مصيبة قالوا إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون

"And when a disaster strikes them, they say, 'Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we shall return.'"

أولئك عليهم صلوات من ربهم ورحمة وأولئك هم المهتدون

Upon them are blessings from their Lord and mercy, and it is they who are the rightly guided.

إن الصفا والمروة من شعائر الله

Indeed, As-Safa and Al-Marwah are among the rites of Allah.

فمن حجبهم من شعائر الله

"Whoever prevents them from the rituals of Allah."

ومن حج البيت أو اعتمر فلا جناح عليه أن يطوف بهما

"And whoever performs Hajj to the House or Umrah, there is no blame upon him for circling them both."

ومن تطوع خيرا فإن الله شاكر عليم

And whoever volunteers good, then Allah is Appreciative and Knowing.

إن الذين يكتمون ما أنزلنا من البينات والهدى من بعد ما بيناه للناس

Indeed, those who conceal what We have sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We made it clear to the people...

ومن تطوع خيرا فإن الله شاكر عليم

And whoever volunteers goodness, then Allah is Appreciative and Knowing.

من بعد ما بيناه للناس في الكتاب أولئك يلعنهم الله ويلعنهم اللاعنون

"After We have made it clear to the people in the Book, those are the ones whom Allah curses, and those who curse them also."

إلا الذين تابوا وأصلحوا وبينوا فأولئك أتوب عليهم وأنا التواب الرحيم

Except for those who repent, correct themselves, and make clear (the truth). For them I will accept their repentance, and I am the Most-Relenting, Most-Merciful.

إن الذين كفروا وماتوا وهم كفار أولئك عليهم لعنة الله والملائكة والناس أجمعين

Indeed, those who disbelieved and died while they were disbelievers, upon them is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all of mankind.

خالدين فيها لا يخفف عنهم العذاب ولا هم ينظرون

They will remain in it forever; the punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved.

وإلهكم إلهون

And your god is one god.

لا إله إلا هو الرحمن الرحيم

There is no god but He, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.

إن في خلق السماوات والأرض واختلاف الليل والنهار

"Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day..."

والفلك التي تجري في البحر بما ينفع الناس

"And the ships that sail in the sea for the benefit of people."

وما أنزل الله من السماء من ماء فأحيا به الأرض بعد موتها

And what Allah has sent down from the heavens of water, giving life to the earth after its death.

وبث فيها من كل دابة وتصريف الرياح والسحابات

"And He spread in it every kind of creature and directed the winds and the clouds."

وبالمسخر بين السماء والأرض لآيات لقوم يعقلون

"And We have made the heavens and the earth a sign for a people who understand."

ومن الناس من يتخذ من دون الله أندادا يحبونهم كحب الله

"And among the people are those who take others besides Allah as equals (to Him), loving them as they should love Allah."

والذين آمنوا

And those who believed.

أشد حبا لله

I love Allah the most.

ولو يرى الذين ظلموا إذ يرون العذاب أن القوة لله جميعا

"And if only those who had wronged would consider when they see the punishment that all power belongs to Allah."

وأن الله شديد العذاب

And indeed, Allah is severe in punishment.

إذ تبرأ الذين اتبعوا من الذين اتبعوا ورأوا العذاب

When those who were followed disown those who followed them and see the punishment.

ورأوا العذاب وتقطعوا منه

And they saw the punishment and were torn apart by it.

وقال الذين اتبعوا لو أن لنا كرة فنتبرأ منهم كما تبرأوا منا

And those who followed said, "If only we could have another chance, we would disown them as they have disowned us."

كذلك يريهم الله أعمالهم حسرات عليهم

Thus, Allah shows them their deeds as regrets upon them.

وما هم بخارجين من النار

"And they will not be exiting from the Fire."

وَأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ كُلُوا مِمَّا فِي الْأَرْضِ حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌ مُّبِينٌ

"O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a manifest enemy."

إِنَّمَا يَأْمُرُكُمْ بِالسُّوءِ وَالْفَعَالِينَ

He only commands you to do evil and to commit sinful actions.

وَأَنْ تَقُولُوا عَلَى اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

"And that you say about Allah what you do not know."

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اتَّبِعُوا مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ قَالُوا بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا أَلْفَيْنَا عَلَيْهِ آبَاءَنَا

"And when it is said to them, 'Follow what Allah has revealed,' they say, 'Rather, we will follow that which we found our forefathers following.'"

أَوَلَوْ كَانَ آبَاءُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

Even if their fathers did not understand.

شَيْئًا وَلَا يَهْتَدُونَ

"Nothing and they are not guided."

وَمَثَلُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا كَمَثَلٍ لَّذِي يَنْعِقُ بِمَا لَا يَسْمَعُ إِلَّا دُعَاءً وَنِدَاءً

The example of those who disbelieve is like that of one who shouts at what he does not hear, except a call and a cry.

صُمٌّ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌّ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

Deaf, dumb, and blind, so they do not understand.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُلُوا

O you who have believed, eat.

مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِلَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ

"Of the good things We have provided for you, and give thanks to Allah if it is Him that you worship."

إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةَ وَالدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ الْخِنْزِيرِ وَمَا أُهِلَّ بِهِ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ

"Indeed, He has forbidden to you the dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah."

فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاتِهِ

So whoever is forced (to eat or drink) without transgression.

وَلَا عَادٍ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ

"And there is no sin upon him."

إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَيَشْتَرُونَ بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا

Indeed, those who conceal what Allah has revealed of the Book and exchange it for a small price.

أُولَئِكَ مَا يَأْتُمُونَ

Those are the ones who do not come.

وَلَا يَأْكُلُونَ فِي بُطُونِهِمْ إِلَّا النَّارِ

And they will not eat in their bellies except for fire.

وَلَا يُكَلِّمُونُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

And Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection.

وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

And He will not purify them, and they will have a painful punishment.

أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ اشْتَرَوْا الضَّلَالَةَ بِالْهُدَى

Those are the ones who have bought misguidance for guidance.

وَالْعَذَابَ بِالْمَغْفِرِينَ

"And the punishment with those who are forgiven."

فَمَا أَصْبَرَهُمْ عَلَى النَّارِ

So what makes them so patient in the fire?

ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ نَزَّلَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ

That is because Allah has sent down the Book with truth.

وَإِنَّ الَّذِينَ اخْتَلَفُوا فِي الْكِتَابِ لَفِي شِقَاقٍ بَعِيدٍ

Indeed, those who differ concerning the Book are in extreme dissension.

لَيْسَ الْبِرَّ أَنْ تُوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرَةِ

Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east and the west.

وَلَكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالْكِتَابِ وَالنَّبِيِّنَ

"But righteousness is in one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets."

وَآتَى الْمَالَ عَلَى حُبِّهِ ذَوِي الْقُرْبَى وَالْيَتَامَى وَالْمَسَاكِينَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيلِ

"And he gives his wealth, despite his love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, and the wayfarer."

وَأَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ وَآتَى الزَّكَاةَ وَالْمُوفُونَ بِعَهْدِهِمْ إِذَا عَاهَدُوا وَالصَّابِرِينَ فِي الْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ وَحِينَ الْبَأْسَ

"And he establishes prayer and gives zakat and those who fulfill their promise when they promise and the patient in hardship and in ease and when the battle intensifies."

أُولَئِنَا

Those.

وَأَلَئِكَ الَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا وَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُتَّقُونَ

And those are the ones who have been true, and it is they who are the righteous.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْقِصَاصُ فِي الْقَتْلَى

O you who have believed, prescribed for you is legal retribution for those murdered.

الْحُرُّ بِالْحُرِّ وَالْعَبْدُ بِالْعَبْدِ وَالْأُنْثَى بِالْأُنْثَى

The free person for the free person, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female.

فَمَنْ عُفِيَ لَهُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ شَيْءٌ فَاتِّبَاعٌ بِالْمَغْرُوفِ وَأَدَاءٌ إِلَيْهِ بِإِحْسَانٍ

So whoever receives a pardon from his brother, then there should be a suitable following and a good performance to him.

ذَلِكَ تَخْفِيفٌ مِّنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَرَحْمَهُ فَمَنْ اعْتَدَى بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَلَهُ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

That is a relief from your Lord and a mercy. So whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment.

يَا أُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

O people of understanding, that you may become righteous.

كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ إِن تَرَكَ خَيْرًا الْوَصِيَّةُ لِلْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالْأَقْرَبِينَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ

"It has been decreed upon you that when death approaches any one of you, if he leaves behind good, then a will should be made for the parents and the closest relatives in a fair manner."

حَقًّا عَلَى الْمَعْرُوفِ

"Indeed, it is upon the known."

فَمَنْ بَدَّلَهُ بَعْدَ مَا سَمِعَهُ فَإِنَّمَا إِثْمُهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ يُبَدِّلُونَهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

So whoever alters it after he has heard it, the sin is only upon those who alter it. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

فَمَنْ قَافَ مِنْ مُوصٍ جَنَفًا أَوْ إِثْمًا فَأَصْلَحَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهُ

So whoever fears from a testator some wrongdoing or sin and brings about reconciliation between them, there is no sin upon him.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.

أياما معدودا

A few numbered days.

فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرٍ

So whoever of you is ill or on a journey, then a number of other days (will be made up).

وَعَلَى الَّذِينَ يُطِيقُونَهُ فِدِيَةٌ طَعَامُ مِسْكِينَ

And for those who can fast with hardship, a ransom [is prescribed], the feeding of a poor person.

فَمَنْ تَطَوَّى خَيْرًا فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَهُ وَأَنْ تَصُومُوا خَيْرٌ لَهُ

So whoever does good, it is for his own benefit, and that you fast is better for you.

لَكُمْ إِن كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

For you, if you only knew.

شهر رمضان الذي أنزل فيه القرآن هدى للناس

The month of Ramadan in which the Quran was revealed as guidance for the people.

وبينات من الهدى والفرقان

"And clear signs of guidance and the criterion."

فمن شهد منكم الشهر فليصمه

"So whoever of you witnesses the month, let him fast it."

ومن كان مريضا أو على سفر فعدة من أيام أخر

And whoever is ill or on a journey, then a number of other days (to make up the fast).

يريد الله بكم اليسر ولا يريد بكم العسر

Allah wants ease for you and does not want hardship for you.

ولتكملوا العدة ولتكبروا الله على ما هداكم ولعلكم تشكرون

"And complete the prescribed period and glorify Allah for His guidance to you, and perhaps you will be grateful."

وإذا سألك عبادي عني فإنك

"And if My servants ask you about Me, indeed I am..."

إني قريب أجيب دعوة الداعي إذا دعان

"I am near; I respond to the supplication of the supplicant when he calls upon Me."

فليستجيبوا لي وليؤمنوا بي لعلهم يرشدون

"Let them respond to me and believe in me, that they may be guided."

أحل لكم ليلة الصيام الرفث إلى نسائكم

"Permitted for you during the night of fasting is to go to your wives."

وأنتم لباس لكم وأنتم لباس لهم

"And you are a garment for them, and they are a garment for you."

علم الله أنكم كنتم تختانون أنفسكم فتاب عليكم وعفى عنكم

Allah knew that you were betraying yourselves, so He accepted your repentance and forgave you.

فالآن باشرون وابتغوا ما كتب الله لكم

So now go forth and seek what Allah has decreed for you.

وكلوا واشربوا حتى يتبين لكم الخيط الأبيض من الهدى

"Eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct from the black thread (of night)."

وخيط الأسود من الفجر

"And the black thread of dawn."

ثم أتموا الصيام إلى الليل

Then complete the fast until night.

ولا تباشرون وأنتم عاكفون في المساجد

"And do not approach them while you are in retreat in the mosques."

تلك حدود الله فلا تقربوها

Those are the boundaries of Allah, so do not approach them.

كذلك يبير الله آياته للناس

Thus, Allah clarifies His verses to the people.

لعلهم يتقون

Perhaps they will be conscious (of Allah).

ولا تأكلوا أموالكم بينكم بالباطل

And do not consume one another's wealth unjustly.

وتدلوا بها إلى الحكام

"And you will present it to the rulers."

لتأكلوا فريقا من أموال الناس بالإثم

"To consume a portion of the people's wealth by wrongdoing."

وأنتم تعلمون

And you know.

يسألونك عن الأهلة قل هي مواقيت للناس

They ask you about the crescent moons. Say, "They are timings for the people."

والحج

And the pilgrimage.

وليس البر بأن تأتوا البيوت من ظهورها

"Righteousness is not that you enter houses from their rear."

ولكن البر من اتقى

"But righteousness is in the one who fears [Allah]."

وأتوا البيوت من أبوابها

"And enter houses through their doors."

واتقوا الله لعلكم تفلحون

And fear Allah that you may be successful.

وقاتلوا في سبيل الله الذين يقاتلونكم

"And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you."

ولا تعتدوا

And do not commit excess.

إنكم ستكونوا أموالكم

Your wealth will be yours.

إن الله لا يحب المعتدين

Indeed, Allah does not love the aggressors.

واقتلوهم حيث ثقفتموهم

"And kill them wherever you find them."

وأخرجوهم من حيث أخرجوكم

"And drive them out from where they drove you out."

والفتنة أشد من القتل

"And the trial is worse than killing."

ولا تقاتلوهم عند المسجد الحرام

And do not fight them near the Sacred Mosque.

حتى يقاتلوكم فيه

"Until they fight you in it."

فإن قاتلوكم فاقتلوهم

So if they fight you, kill them.

كذلك جزاءكم

That is your reward as well.

وقاتلوهم حتى لا تكون فتنة

"And fight them until there is no more persecution."

ويكون الدين لله

And the religion is for Allah.

فإن انتهوا فلا عدوان

"If they cease, then there is no aggression."

إلا على الظالمين

Except against the oppressors.

الشهر الحرام بالشهر الحرام

The sacred month with the sacred month.

والحرمان بالحرام

And deprivation is by the forbidden.

ومن اعتدى عليكم

"And whosoever attacks you"

فاعتدوا عليه بمثل ما اعتدى عليكم

So retaliate against him with what he has attacked you with.

واتقوا الله واعلموا أن الله مع المتقين

And fear Allah and know that Allah is with the righteous.

وأنفقوا في سبيل الله

And spend in the cause of Allah.

ولا تلقوا بأيديكم إلى التهلكة

And do not throw yourselves into destruction.

وأحسنوا إن الله يحبكم

"And do good, for God loves you."

وأتموا الحج والعمرة لله

"And complete the Hajj and Umrah for Allah."

فإن أخصرتم فما استيسر من الهدي

"So if you shorten (the pilgrimage), then what is easiest from the sacrificial offerings."

ولا تحلقوا رؤوسكم حتى يبلغ الهدي محله

And do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animals reach their place of sacrifice.

فمن كان منكم مريضا أو به أذى من رأسه

"So whoever among you is sick or has an ailment on his head..."

ففذية من صياده

So it was freed from its hunter.

ففذية من صيام أو صدقة أو نسك

Expiation through fasting, charity, or ritual.

فإذا أمنتم فمن تمتع بالعمرة إلى الحج

"When you are secure, then whoever performs the pilgrimage from Umrah to Hajj..."

فمن تمتع بالعمرة إلى الحج

"Whoever performs Umrah before the Hajj."

فما استيسر من الهدي

"What is easy from the sacrifice."

فمن لم يجد فصيام ثلاثة أيام في الحج

"Whoever cannot find it should fast for three days during the pilgrimage."

وسبعة إذا رحبوا

"And seven if they welcome you."

فإذا رجعتم تلك عشرة كاملة

"So when you return, that is ten complete."

ذلك لمن لم يكن أهله حاضر المسجد الحرام

That is for those whose families are not present at the Sacred Mosque.

واتقوا الله واعلموا أن الله شديد العقاب

And fear Allah and know that Allah is severe in punishment.

الحج أشهر معلومات

The pilgrimage (Hajj) is during well-known months.

فمن فرض فيهن الحج فلا رفعه

"So whoever is obligated to perform Hajj should not neglect it."

ولا فسوق ولا جدال في الحج

"No corruption and no dispute during Hajj."

وما تفعلوا من خير يعلمه الله

"And whatever good you do, Allah knows it."

وتزودوا فإن خير الزاد التقوا

"And take provisions, for the best provision is righteousness."

واتقون يا أولي الألباب

And fear Allah, O people of reason.

ليس عليكم جناح أن تبتغوا فضلا من ربكم

"There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord."

وإذا أفضتم من عرفات

And when you depart from Arafat.

فاذكروا الله عند المشعر الحرام

"So remember Allah at the sacred monument."

واذكروه كما هداكم

"And remember Him as He has guided you."

وإن كنتم من قبله لمن الضالين

"And if you were before it among the misguided."

ثم أفيضوا من حيث أفاض الناس

Then pour (the water) from where the people have poured.

واستغفروا منه

And seek forgiveness from Him.

إن الله غفور رحيم

Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

فإذا قضيتم مناسككم

So when you have completed your rites.

فاذكروا الله كذكركم آباءكم

"Then remember Allah as you remember your fathers."

أو أشد ذكرا

Or more severely mentioned.

فمن الناس من يقول

Some people say

ربنا آتنا في الدنيا

Our Lord, grant us in this world.

وما له في الآخرة من خلاقه

"And he will have no share in the Hereafter."

ومنهم من يقول ربنا آتنا في الدنيا حسنة

"And among them are some who say, 'Our Lord, give us goodness in this world...'"

وفي الآخرة حسنة

And in the Hereafter, [there is] goodness.

وقنا عذاب النار

And protect us from the torment of the Fire.

أولئك لهم نصيب مما كسبوا

Those will have a share of what they earned.

والله سريع الحساب

"By God, He is swift in reckoning."

وأذكروا الله في أيام معدودات

"And remember Allah during the numbered days."

فمن تعجل في يومين

"Whoever hastens in two days"

فلا إثم عليه

There is no sin upon him.

ومن تأخر فلا إثم عليه

And there is no sin on the one who is delayed.

لمن اتقى

For those who are mindful (of God).

واتقوا الله واعلموا أنكم إليه تحشرون

And fear Allah and know that you will be gathered to Him.

ومن أخرى تحشرون

"And from another you will be gathered."

من الناس من يعجبك قوله في الحياة الدنيا ويشهد الله على ما في قلبه وهو ألد الخصام

Among people are those whose words in this worldly life impress you, and they call God to witness what is in their hearts, yet they are the most contentious.

وإذا تولى سعى في الأرض ليفسد فيها ويهلك الحرث والنسل والله لا يحب الفساد

"And when he goes, he strives throughout the land to cause corruption therein and destroy crops and lineage; and Allah does not like corruption."

وإذا قيل له اتق الله أخذته العزة بالإثم فحسبه جهنم ولبئس المهاد

"And when it is said to him, 'Fear Allah,' pride in sin takes hold of him. Thus Hell will be sufficient for him, and wretched is the resting place."

ومن الناس من يشري نفسه ابتغاء مرضاة الله والله رءوف بالعباد

"And among the people is he who sells himself, seeking the pleasure of Allah. And Allah is Gracious to the servants."

يا بني

Oh my son

يا أيها الذين آمنوا دخلوا في السلم كافة ولا تتبعوا خطوات الشيطان إنه لكم عدو مبين

O you who have believed, enter into submission completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a manifest enemy.

فإن زللتم من بعد ما جاءتكم البينات فاعلموا

"If you slip after the clear signs have come to you, then know..."

أن الله عزيز حكيم

Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.

هل ينظرون إلا أن يأتيهم الله في ظلل من الغمام والملائكة وقضي الأمر

"Do they only wait for Allah to come to them in the shadows of clouds and angels, and the matter will be decided?"

وإلى الله ترجع الأمور

And to God belong all matters.

سل بني إسراء

Ask the children of Israel.

لكم آتيناهم من آية بينة

We have given them a clear sign.

ومن يبدل نعمة الله من بعد ما جاءته فإن الله شديد العقاب

And whoever changes the favor of Allah after it has come to him, indeed, Allah is severe in punishment.

زين للذين كفروا الحياة الدنيا ويسخرون من الذين آمنوا والذين اتقوا فوقهم

"Beautified for those who disbelieve is the life of this world, and they mock those who believe; but those who fear Allah are above them."

يوم القيامة

The Day of Judgment

والله يرزق من يشاء بغير حساب

And Allah provides for whom He wills without account.

كان الناس أمة واحدة

The people were one nation.

فبعث الله النبيين مبشرين ومنذرين

"Then Allah sent the prophets as bringers of good tidings and warners."

وأنزل معهم الكتاب بالحق

"And He sent down with them the Book in truth."

ليحكم بهم

To rule by them.

وإجتهد الإبقاء عن الأمر

"And he made an effort to avoid the matter."

ومع إنه يجب ان يكون لهم إمالا حياته

Although they should have a share in his life.

لأنهم أمهاتهم

Because they are their mothers.

وإنه برافع عليهم

"And indeed, it is a burden upon them."

ومع ذلك على الناس

Nevertheless, to the people.

فيما اختلف فيه

In what they disagreed upon.

وما اختلف فيه إلا الذين أوتوه من بعد ما جاءتهم البينات بغيا بينهم

"And those who were given it only differed after clear proofs had come to them, out of jealousy among themselves."

فهدى الله الذين آمنوا لما اختلفوا فيه من الحق بإذنه

And Allah guided those who believed to the truth about which they had differed, by His permission.

والله يهدي من يشاء لهم

And Allah guides whom He wills.

إلى صراط مستقيم

To the straight path.

أم حسبتم أن تدخلوا الجنة

"Or did you think that you would enter Paradise?"

ولما يأتكم مثل الذين خلوا من قبلكم

"And when there comes to you [a trial] like that which came to those before you."

بستهم البأساء والضراء وزلزلوا

"They were struck by hardship and distress, and they were shaken."

حتى يقول الرسول والذين آمنوا معه متى نصر الله

Until the Messenger and those who believed with him said, "When will the help of Allah come?"

ألا إن نصر الله قريب

Indeed, the victory of God is near.

يسألونك ماذا ينفقون

They ask you what they should spend.

قل ما أنفقتم من خير فللوالدين والأقربين واليدين

"Say, 'Whatever good you spend should be for parents, relatives, orphans, the needy.'"

والأتاما والمساكين وابن السبيل

And the orphans, the needy, and the wayfarer.

وما تفعلوا من خير فإن الله به عليم

And whatever good you do, indeed Allah is All-Aware of it.

كتب عليكم القتال وهو كره لكم

"Fighting has been prescribed for you, though it is hard for you."

وعسى أن تكرهوا شيئا وهو خير لكم

"And perhaps you dislike something while it is good for you."

وعسى أن تحبوا شيئا وهو خير لكم

"And perhaps you dislike something while it is خير (better) for you."

وهو شر لكم

And it is a source of evil for you.

والله يعلم وأنتم لا تعلمون

And Allah knows, while you do not know.

يسألونك عن الشهر الحرام قتال فيه

They ask you about the sacred month, about fighting in it.

قل قتال فيه كبير

Say there is great fighting in it.

وصد عن سبيل الله وكفر به

"And he turned away from the path of God and disbelieved in Him."

والمسجد الحرام وإخراج أهله منه أكبر عند الله

"And the Sacred Mosque and driving out its people is greater in the sight of Allah."

والفتنة أكبر من القتل

"And the trial is greater than killing."

ولا يزالون يقاتلونكم حتى يردوكم عن دينكم إن استطاعوا

And they will continue to fight you until they turn you away from your religion, if they are able to.

ومن يرتدد منكم عن دينه فيمت وهو كافر

And whoever among you renounces his religion and dies while he is a disbeliever...

فأولئك حبطت أعماله

Those are the ones whose deeds have become worthless.

في الدنيا والآخرة

In this world and the Hereafter.

وأولئك أصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

And those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

إن الذين آمنوا والذين هاجروا وجاهدوا في سبيل الله

Indeed, those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah.

أولئك يرجون رحمة الله

Those are the ones who hope for the mercy of Allah.

والله غفور رحيم

And indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

يسألونك عن الخمر والميسر

They ask you about wine and gambling.

قل فيهما إثم كبير ومنافع للناس

In them is a great sin and benefits for people.

وإثمهما أكبر من نفعهما

"And their sin is greater than their benefit."

ويسألونك ماذا ينفقون قل العفو

"And they ask you what they should spend. Say, 'The excess (beyond needs).'"

كذلك يبين الله لكم الآيات لعلكم

Thus Allah makes clear the verses to you, that perhaps you may.

ويسألونك عن اليتاما قل إصلاح لهم خير

"And they ask you about orphans. Say, 'Improvement for them is best.'"

وإن تخالقوهم فإخوانكم والله يعلم المفسد من المصلح

"If you deal kindly with them, they are your brothers, and Allah knows the corruptor from the reformer."

ولو شاء الله لأعنتكم إن الله عزيز حكيم

"And if Allah had willed, He could have made it difficult for you; verily, Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise."

ولا تنكحوا المشركات حتى يؤمنوا

And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe.

ولأمة مؤمنة خير من مشركة ولو أعجبتكم

"And a believing slave is better than an idolater, even though he may please you."

ولا تنكحوا المشركين حتى يؤمنوا

And do not marry the polytheists until they believe.

ولعبد مؤمن خير من مشرك ولو أعجبكم

"And a believing servant is better than an idolater, even though he may please you."

قل

Say.

أمين

Trustworthy

أولئك يدعون إلى النار

Those are called to the Fire.

والله يدعو إلى الجنة والمغفرة بإذنه

And Allah calls to Paradise and forgiveness by His permission.

ويبين آياته للناس لعلهم يتذكرون

And He explains His verses to the people so that they may remember.

ويسألونك عن المحيض قل هو أدا

"They ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is an inconvenience.'"

فاعتزلوا النساء في المحيض

So stay away from women during menstruation.

ولا تقربوهن حتى يطهر

And do not approach them until they are pure.

فإذا تطهرن فأتوهن من حيث أمركم الله

So when they have purified themselves, come to them from where Allah has commanded you.

إن الله يحب التوابين ويحب المتطهرين

Indeed, Allah loves those who repent and loves those who purify themselves.

نساؤكم حرث لكم فأتوا حرثكم أما شئتموا

Your women are a field for you; so go to your field as you like.

وقدموا لأنفسكم واتقوا الله واعلموا أنكم ملاقوه

"And provide for yourselves, and fear Allah, and know that you will meet Him."

وبشر المؤمنين

And give glad tidings to the believers.

ولا تجعلوا الله عرضة لأيمانكم أن تبروا وتتقوا وتصلحوا بين الناس

And do not make God an excuse for your oaths, that you may be righteous and fear God and make peace among the people.

والله سميع عليم

And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

لا يؤاخذكم الله باللغو في أيمانكم

God does not hold you accountable for your unintentionally careless oaths.

ولكن يؤاخذكم بما كسبت قلوبكم

"But He takes you to account for what your hearts have earned."

والله غفور حليم

Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.

للذين يؤلون من نسائهم تربص أربعة أشهر

For those who make vows regarding their women, there is a waiting period of four months.

فإن فاؤوا فإن أشهروا

"If they repent, then let them declare it."

فإن الله غفور رحيم

Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

وإن عزموا الطلاق فإن الله سميع عليم

And if they decide on divorce, then Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

والمقلقات يتربصن بأنفسهن ثلاثة قروء

"And those who are menstruating should wait for three menstrual cycles."

ولا يحل لهن أن يكتمن ما خلق الله في أرحامهن

It is not lawful for them to conceal what God has created in their wombs.

إن كن لهم أن يتقون

If they had piety.

ويؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر

And he believes in Allah and the Last Day.

وبعولتهن أحق بردهن في ذلك إن أرادوا إصلاحا

"And their husbands have more right to take them back in that case if they intend to bring about reconciliation."

ولهن مثل الذي عليهن بالمعروف

"And for them is a degree similar to that which is upon them in kindness."

وللرجال عليهن درجة

And men have a degree over them.

والله عزيز حكيم

Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.

فإن ساكن بمعروف أو تسريح بإحسان

"Then live with kindness or release with good treatment."

ولا يحل لكم أن تأخذوا مما آتيتموهن شيئا

And it is not lawful for you to take anything of what you have given them.

إلا أن يخافا أن لا يقيما حدود الله

Unless they fear that they will not be able to uphold the limits set by Allah.

فإن خفتم أن لا يقيما حدود الله

"If you fear that they will not uphold the limits set by Allah."

فلا جناحكم أحدا

There is no sin upon you, anyone.

فلا جناح عليهما فيما افتدت به

There is no sin upon them in what she has ransomed herself with.

تلك حدود الله فلا تعتدوها

These are the limits set by God; do not transgress them.

ومن يتعد حدود الله فأولئك هم الظالمون

And whoever transgresses the limits of Allah, those are the wrongdoers.

فإن طلقها فلا تحل له من بعد

If he divorces her, she will not be lawful for him after that.

حتى تنكح زوجا غيره

Until she marries another husband.

فإن طلقها فلا جناح عليهما

"Then if he divorces her, there is no blame upon either of them."

وإذا طلقتم النساء فبلغن أجلهن

And when you divorce women and they reach their term.

فأمسكوهن بمعروف أو سرحوهن بمعروف

"Then hold them in a good manner or release them in a good manner."

ولا تمسكوهن ضرارا لتعتدوا

"And do not hold them in order to harm them."

ومن يفعل ذلك فقد ظلم نفسه

And whoever does that has wronged himself.

ولا تتخذوا آيات الله هزوا

And do not take the verses of Allah in mockery.

واذكروا نعمة الله عليكم

And remember the favor of Allah upon you.

وما أنزل عليكم من الكتاب والحكمة يعظكم به

"And what has been revealed to you of the Book and Wisdom is a reminder for you."

واتقوا الله واعلمونه

And fear Allah and know Him.

أن الله بكل شيء عليم

Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing about everything.

وإذا طلقتم النساء فبلغن أجلهن

"And when you divorce women and they reach their appointed term..."

فلا تعضلوهن أن ينكحن أزواجهن

"Do not prevent them from marrying their husbands."

إذا تراضوا بينه بالمعروف

"If they come to an agreement among themselves in a good way."

ذلك يوعظ به من كان منكم يؤمنون

This is an admonition for those of you who believe.

ويؤمنوا بالله واليوم الآخر

And they believe in Allah and the Last Day.

ذلك أزكى لكم وأطهر

That is purer and better for you.

والله يعلم وأنتم لا تعلمون

And Allah knows, while you do not know.

والوالدات يرضعن أولادهن حولين كاملين

"Mothers may breastfeed their children for two complete years."

لمن أراد أن يتم الرضاعة

For those who wish to complete breastfeeding.

وعلى المولود له رزقهن

"And for the one born to her, He (God) provided sustenance."

وكسوتهن بالمعروف

"And I clothed them with kindness."

لا تكلف نفس إلا وسعها

No soul is burdened beyond its capacity.

لا تضار والدة بولدها

A mother should not harm her child.

ولا مولود له بولده

Nor does he have a child with his offspring.

وعلى الوارث مثل ذلك

And the heir has the same.

فإن أرادا فصالا عن تراض منهما وتشاور

"If they both desire to separate, then there should be a mutual agreement between them and consultation."

فلا جناح عليهما

There is no sin upon them.

وإن أردتم أن تسترضعوا أولادكم

And if you want to nurse your children.

فلا جناح عليكم إذا سلمتم ما آتيتم بالمعروف

"There is no blame upon you if you make a good settlement."

واتقوا الله واعلموا أن الله بما تعملون بصير

And fear Allah, and know that Allah is All-Seer of what you do.

والذين يتوفون منكم

And those of you who die.

ويذرون أزواجا يتربصن بأنفسهن أربعة أشهر وعشرا

And the women who are widowed shall wait for themselves four months and ten days.

فإذا بلغ لاج لهن فلا جناح عليكم

So when they reach maturity, there is no blame upon you.

فيما فعلن في أنفسهن بالمعروف

In what they have done to themselves in a good manner.

والله بما تعملون خبير

And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

إما عرضتم به من خطبة النساء أو أكننتم في أنفسكم

"Either you have expressed it in your speech about women, or you have kept it to yourselves."

علم الله أنكم ستذكرونهن ولكن لا تواعدوهن سرا

God knows that you will mention them, but do not make secret agreements with them.

إلا أن تقولوا قولا معروفا

"Unless you say a kind word."

ولا تعزموا عقدة النكاح حتى يبلغ الكتاب أجله

"And do not finalize the marriage contract until the prescribed term is completed."

وعلموا أن الله يعلم ما في أنفسكم فاحذروه

And know that Allah knows what is in your souls, so be careful of Him.

وعلموا أن الله غفور حليم

And know that Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.

لا جناح عليكم إن طلقتم النساء

There is no blame upon you if you divorce the women.

وما لم تمسوهن أو تفرضوا لهن فريضة ومتعوهن على الموسع قدره وعلى المقتر قدره متاعا بالمعروف حقا على المحسنين

"And if you do not touch them or impose upon them a duty, then enjoy them with what is acceptable, according to the capacity of the affluent and according to the capacity of the poor, as a provision in a good manner; it is a duty upon the doers of good."

وإن طلقتموهن من قبل أن تمسوهن وقد فرضتم لهن فريضة فنصف ما فرضتم إلا أن يعفون أو يعفو الذي بيده عقدة النكاح

And if you divorce them before you have touched them and you have specified for them a provision, then (the husband must pay) half of what you specified, unless they forgo it or he forgives it who is in control of the marriage contract.

وأن تعفوا أقرب للتقوى

"And that you forgive is closer to piety."

ولا تنسوا

And do not forget.

وأن تنسوا الفضل بينكم إن الله بما تعملون بصير

And do not forget the favor between you. Indeed, Allah is All-Seer of what you do.

حافظوا على الصلوات والصلاة الوسطى وقوموا لله قانتين

"Maintain the prayers, especially the middle prayer, and stand before Allah in devotion."

فإن خفتم فرجالا أو ركبانا فإذا أمنتم فاذكروا الله كما علمكم ما لم تكونوا

"If you fear [enemy attack], then [fight] on foot or riding. But when you are safe, remember Allah as He has taught you that which you did not know."

تعلمون

You know.

والذين يتوفون منكم ويذرون أزواجا وصية لأزواجهم متاعا إلى الحول غير إخراج

"And those of you who die and leave wives behind, a testament for their wives should be made, for a year without eviction."

فإن خرجن فلا جناح عليكم فيما فعلن في أنفسهن من معروف

If they come out, there is no blame upon you for what they do with themselves in a good manner.

والله عزيز الحكيم

And Allah is Exalted in Might, the Wise.

وللمطلقات متاعا بالمعروف حقا على المتقين

"And for divorced women, a provision in a just and acceptable manner is a right upon the righteous."

كذلك يبين الله لكم آياته لعلكم تعقلون

Thus, Allah makes clear His signs to you so that you may understand.

ألم تر إلى الذين خرجوا من ديارهم وهم ألوف حذر الموت فقال لهم الله موتوا

"Have you not seen those who left their homes in thousands, fearing death? Then Allah said to them, 'Die.'"

لهم أحياهم

"To them, I have given life."

إن الله لذو فضل على الناس ولكن أكثر الناس لا يشكرون

Indeed, Allah is full of bounty towards people, but most people do not show gratitude.

وقاتلوا في سبيل الله واعلموا أن الله سميع عليم

"And fight in the way of Allah, and know that Allah is Hearing and Knowing."

من ذا الذي يقرض الله قرضا حسنا فيضاعفه له أضعفه

Who is it that lends God a goodly loan, so He will multiply it for him many times?

كثيرا والله يقبض ويبسط وإليه ترجعون

"Indeed, Allah extends and restricts (provision), and to Him you will be returned."

ألم تر إلى الملئ من بني إسرائيل من بعد موسى

"Have you not seen the assembly of the Children of Israel after Moses?"

إذ قالوا لنبي لهم بعث لنا ملكا نقاتل في سبيل الله

When they said to their prophet, "Appoint for us a king so we may fight in the cause of Allah."

قال هل عسيتم إن كتب عسينا

He said, "What if you were commanded, would you obey?"

عليكم القتال ألا تقاتلوا

You must fight, do not fight.

قالوا وما لنا ألا نقاتل في سبيل الله

They said, "And why should we not fight in the cause of Allah?"

وقد أخرجنا من ديارنا وأبنائنا

"And we have been expelled from our homes and our children."

فلما كتب عليهم القتال تولوا إلا قليلا منهم

And when fighting was ordained for them, they turned away, except for a few of them.

والله عليم بالظالمين

And Allah is All-Knowing of the wrongdoers.

وقال لهم نبيهم إن الله قد بعث لكم طالوت ملكا

And their prophet said to them, "Indeed, Allah has sent you Talut as a king."

قالوا أنا يكون له الملك علينا ونحن أحق بالملك منه

They said, "How can he have kingship over us when we are more deserving of the kingship than he is?"

ولم يؤت سعة من المال

And he was not given an abundance of wealth.

قال إن الله اصطفاه عليكم وزاده باستغفاره

He said that Allah has chosen him over you and has increased him with his seeking forgiveness.

والله يؤتي ملكه من يشاء

And Allah gives His kingdom to whom He wills.

والله واسع عليم

And indeed, Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.

وقال لهم نبيهم إن آية ملكه أن يأتيكم التابوت فيه سكينة من ربكم

And their prophet said to them, "Indeed, the sign of his kingship is that the Ark will come to you, with tranquility from your Lord."

وبقية مما تحققونها

"And the rest of what you achieve."

فترك آل موسى وآل هارون تحمله الملائكة

So the descendants of Moses and the descendants of Aaron were carried by the angels.

إن في ذلك لآية لكم إن كنتم مؤمنين

Indeed, in that is a sign for you if you are believers.

فلما فصل طالوت بالجنود قال إن الله مبتليكم بنهر

"When Talut marched forth with the soldiers, he said, 'Indeed, Allah will test you with a river.'"

فمن شرب منه فليس مني

"Whoever drinks from it is not one of me."

ومن لم يطعمه فإنه مني إلا من اغترف غرفة بيده

"And whoever does not eat it, he is from me, except for one who scoops it with his hand."

فشربوا منه إلا قليلا منهم

And they drank from it, except for a few of them.

فلما جاوزه هو والذين آمنوا معه قالوا لا طاقة لنا اليوم بجالوه

And when he and those who believed with him had passed, they said, "We have no strength today against Goliath."

وجنوده قال الذين يظنون أنهم ملاق الله كم من فئة قليلة غلبت فئة كثيرة بإذن الله

"And their soldiers said, 'Those who think they will meet Allah, how many a small group has overcome a large group by permission of Allah.'"

والله مع الصابرين

And Allah is with the patients.

ولما برزوا لجالوت وجنوده قالوا

And when they stood before Goliath and his soldiers, they said,

قالوا ربنا أفرغ عليكم

They said, "Our Lord, pour upon us."

ولنا صبرا وثبت أقدامنا وانصرنا على القوم الكافرين

"And grant us patience, make our feet firm, and give us victory over the disbelieving people."

فهزموهم بإذن الله وقتل داود جالوت وآتاه الله الملك والحكمة وعلمه مما يشاء

So they defeated them by God's permission, and David killed Goliath, and God gave him kingship and wisdom and taught him whatever He willed.

ولولا دفع الله الناس بعضا

And if it were not for the fact that Allah defends some people against others.

فهزموهم ببعض لفسدت الأرض ولكن الله ذو فضل على العالمين

"And they defeated them, and the earth would have been corrupted, but Allah is full of grace towards the worlds."

تلك آيات الله نتلوها عليك بالحق وإنك لمن المرسلين

Those are the verses of Allah that we recite to you in truth, and indeed, you are among the messengers.

تلك الرسل فضلنا بعضهم على بعض منهم

Those messengers, We have preferred some of them over others.

ومن كلم الله ورفع بعضهم درجات

And Allah spoke to some of them and raised some of them in degrees.

وآتينا عيسى بن مريم البينات وأيدناه بروح القدس

And We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, clear signs and supported him with the Pure Spirit.

ولو شاء الله مقتتنا الذين من بعدهم من بعد ما جاءتهم البينات

ولكن اختلفوا فإنهم من بعدهم من بعد ما جاءتهم البينات

But they differed after the clear proofs had come to them.

ومنهم من آمن ومنهم من كفر

"And among them are some who believed, and among them are some who disbelieved."

ولو شاء الله مقتتلوا

"And if Allah had willed, they would have fought each other."

ولكن الله يفعل ما يريد

But God does what He wills.

يا أيها الذين آمنوا أنفقوا مما رزقناكم من قبل أن يأتي يوم لا بلد

O you who have believed, spend from that which We have provided you before a Day comes in which there is no exchange.

لا بيع فيه ولا خلة ولا شفاعة

There is no selling in it, nor friendship, nor intercession.

والكافرون هم الظالمون

And the disbelievers are the wrongdoers.

الله لا إله إلا هو الحي القيوم

God, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence.

لا تأخذه سنة ولا نوم

He does not take a nap or sleep.

له ما في السماوات وما في الأرض وما في الأرض

To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and whatever is in the earth.

من ذا الذي يشفع عنده إلا بإذنه

Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission?

يعلم ما بين أيديهم وما خلفهم

He knows what is before them and what is behind them.

ولا يحيطون بشيء من علمه إلا بما شاء

"And they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills."

وسع كرسيه السماوات والأرض

His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth.

ولا يؤده حفظهما

And their preservation does not burden Him.

ويحيطون بشيء من علمه إلا بما شاء

"And they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills."

وهو العلي العظيم

And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

لا إكراه في الدين

There is no compulsion in religion.

قد تبين الرشد من الغيب

Guidance has been made clear from the unseen.

فمن يكفر بالطاغوت ويؤمن بالله

"So whoever disbelieves in the tyrant and believes in Allah."

فقد استمسك بالغروة الوثقالا في صاملها

He has held firmly to the strong rope in its tautness.

والله سميع عليم

And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

الله ولي الذين يؤمنون

God is the protector of those who believe.

ويؤمنوا يخرجهم من الظلمات إلى النور

And He brings them out of darkness into light.

والذين كفروا أولياؤهم الطاغوت

"And those who disbelieve, their allies are the tyrants."

يخرجونهم من النور إلى الظلمات

They bring them out of light into darkness.

أولئك أصحاب النار

Those are the companions of the Fire.

هم فيها خالدون

They will remain in it forever.

ألم تر إلى الذي حاج إبراهيم في ربه

"Have you not seen the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord?"

أن آتاه الله الملك

That God has given him kingship.

إذ قال إبراهيم ربي الذي يحيي ويميت

When Abraham said, "My Lord is the One who gives life and causes death."

قال أنا أحيي وأميت

He said, "I give life and cause death."

قال إبراهيم فإن الله يأتي بالشمس من المشرق

Ibrahim said, "Indeed, Allah brings the sun from the east."

فأتي بها من المغفورة

"So she brought it from the forgiven."

فأتي بها من المغرب

So she was brought from Morocco.

فبهت الذي كفر

And the one who disbelieved was astonished.

والله لا يهدي القوم الظالمين

And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

أو كالذي مر على قرية

"Or like the one who passed by a town."

وهي خاوية على عروشها

And it is empty on its thrones.

قال أنا يحيي هذه الله بعد موتها

He said, "I am Yahya; this is Allah after her death."

فأماته الله مئة عام

So God caused him to die for a hundred years.

ثم يحيي الله بعد موتها

Then Allah revives her after her death.

ثم بعثه

Then he sent him.

قال كم لبثت

He said, "How long have you stayed?"

قال لبثت يوما أو بعض يوم

He said, "I stayed for a day or part of a day."

قال بل لبثت مئة عام

He said, "But I have lingered for a hundred years."

فانظر إلى طعامك وشرابك لم يتسنه

"Look at your food and drink; it has not changed."

وانظر إلى حمارك ولنجعلك آية للناس

"And look at your donkey, and We will make you a sign for the people."

وانظر إلى العظام كيف ننزلها

"Look at the bones, how We bring them together."

وننشزها ثم نكسوها لحما

"And we will resurrect it, then we will clothe it with flesh."

فلما تبين له قال أعلم أن الله على كل شيء قدير

When it became clear to him, he said, "I know that Allah is capable of everything."

وإذ قال إبراهيم رب أرني كيف تحيي الموتى

And when Abraham said, "My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead."

قال أولم تؤمن

He said, "Did you not believe?"

قال بلى ولكن ليطمئن قلبي

He said yes, but so that my heart may be assured.

قال فخذيي أمي

He said, "My mother's thighs."

فخذ أربعة من الطير فصرهن إليك

"Take four birds and bring them to you."

ثم اجعل على كل جبل منهن جزآ

"Then make on each of those mountains a portion."

ثم دعهن يأتينك سعيا

Then let them come to you running.

واعلم أن الله عزيز حكيم

And know that Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.

مثل الذين ينفقون أموالهم في سبيل الله

"Like those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah."

كمثل حبة

أنبتت سبع سنابل

It produced seven ears of grain.

في كل سنبلة مئة حبة

In every ear of grain, there are a hundred seeds.

والله مضاعف لمن يشاء

And Allah multiplies [reward] for whom He wills.

والله واسع عليم

And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.

الذين ينفقون أموالهم في سبيل الله

Those who spend their wealth in the way of God.

ثم لا يطبعون ما أنفقوا منوا ولا أذى

"Then they do not make their spending known, nor do they cause harm."

ولا أذى لهم أجرهم عند ربهم

And they will have their reward with their Lord.

ولا قوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون

"Neither shall they grieve nor shall they be troubled."

قول معروف ومغفرة

A well-known saying and forgiveness.

خير من صدقة يتبعها أذى

Better than a charity followed by harm.

والله غني حليم

Indeed, Allah is the All-Sufficient, the Forbearing.

وَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُبْطِلُوا صَدَقَاتِكُمْ بِالْمَنِّ وَالْأَذَى كَالَّذِي يُنْفِقُ مَالَهُ رِئَاءَ النَّاسِ وَلَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ

"O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders or injury, like one who spends his wealth merely to be seen by people and does not believe in Allah and the Last Day."

فَمَثَلُهُ كَمَثَلِ صَفْوَانٍ عَلَيْهِ تُرَابٌ فَأَصَابَهُ وَابِنٌ فَتَرَكَهُ صَلْدًا لَا يَقْدِرُونَ عَلَى شَيْءٍ مِّمَّا كَسَبُوا وَاللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْكَافِرِينَ

His example is like that of a smooth stone upon which is dust; then a heavy rain falls upon it, leaving it bare. They cannot keep anything of what they earned, and Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.

وَمَثَلُ الَّذِينَ يُنْفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ

"And the example of those who spend their wealth..."

بِتِغَاءَ مَرْضَاتِ اللَّهِ وَتَفْبِيْتًا مِّنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ

"In seeking the pleasure of Allah and to strengthen themselves."

كَمَثَلِ جَنَّةٍ بِرَبَوَةٍ أَصَابَهَا وَابِلٌ فَآتَتْ أُكُلَهَا ضِعْفَيْنٍ

Like a garden on a height that has been hit by a downpour, producing its fruit in double.

فَإِنْ لَمْ يُصِبَهَا وَابِلٌ فَطَلُّهُمْ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ

If it does not strike them with a downpour, then its dew. And Allah is All-Seer of what you do.

أَيَوَدُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ تَكُونَ لَهُ جَنَّةٌ مِنْ نَخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَابٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارِ

Would any of you wish to have a garden with palm trees and grapevines, with rivers flowing underneath it?

لَهُ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ وَأَصَابَهُ الْكِبَرُ وَلَهُ ذُرِّيَا

He has in it every type of fruit, and old age has struck him, and he has offspring.

فَأَصَابَهَا إِعْصَارٌ فِيهِ نَارٌ فَاحْتَرَقَتْ كَذَلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمُ الْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Then a storm with fire struck it, and it was burned. Thus Allah makes clear the signs for you, that perhaps you will reflect.

يا أيها الذين آمنوا أنفقوا من الله

O you who have believed, spend from that which We have provided for you.

وطيبات ما كسبتم ومما أخرجنا لكم من الأرض

"And good and pure things from what you have earned and from what We have brought forth for you from the earth."

ولا تيمموا الخبيث منه تنفقون

"And do not choose the bad of it to spend."

ولستم بآخذيه إلا أن تغمضوا فيه

"And you will not take it except by closing your eyes to it."

واعلموا أن الله غني حميد

And know that Allah is All-Sufficient, Praiseworthy.

الشيطان يعدكم الفقر ويأمركم بالفحشاء

The devil promises you poverty and commands you to commit indecency.

والله يعدكم مغفرة منه وفضله

And Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty.

والله واسع عليم

And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.

يؤت الحكمة من يشاء

He gives wisdom to whom He wills.

ومن يؤت الحكمة فقد يؤت الحكمة

"And whoever is given wisdom has indeed been given much good."

وقد يؤتي خيرا كثيرا

And it may bring a lot of good.

وما يذكر إلا أولو الألباب

"And none remembers except those of understanding."

وما أنفقتم من نفقة أو نذرتم من نذر

"And whatever expenditure you spend or a vow you make."

فإن الله يعلمه

For indeed, God is knowledgeable of it.

وما للظالمين من أنصار

And there are no supporters for the wrongdoers.

وتبدوا الصدقات فنعماه

"And the charities appear as blessings."

وإن تخفوها وتؤتوها الفقراء

"And if you conceal it and give it to the poor."

فهو خير لكم

It is better for you.

ويكفر عنكم من سيئاتكم

And He will expiate for you your misdeeds.

والله بما تعملون خبير

Indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

ليس عليك هداهم

You are not responsible for their guidance.

ولا يحبونك

And they do not love you.

لكن الله يهدي من يشاء

But Allah guides whom He wills.

وما تنفقوا من خير فلأنفسكم

"And whatever good you spend is for yourselves."

وما تنفقون إلا بتغاء وجه الله

"And you spend nothing but seeking the face of Allah."

وما تنفقوا من خير يوفى إليكم

"And whatever good you spend will be fully compensated to you."

وأنتم لا تظلمون

And you do not do wrong.

إلا الفقراء الذين أحصروا في سبيل الله

"Except for the poor who are constrained in the way of Allah."

لا يستطيعون ضربا في الأرض

They cannot strike the ground.

يحسبهم الجاهل أغنياء من التعفف

The ignorant consider them rich because of their modesty.

تعرفهم بسيماهم

You will recognize them by their marks.

لا يسألون الناس إلحافا

They do not ask people persistently.

وما يسألون الناس إلحافا

And they do not insistently ask people.

وما تنفقوا من خير فإن الله به عليم

"And whatever good you spend, indeed, Allah is All-Aware of it."

الذين ينفقون أموالهم بالليل والنهار سرا وعلانية

Those who spend their wealth in the night and the day, secretly and openly.

فلهم أجرهم عند ربهم

So they will have their reward with their Lord.

ولا قوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون

"Neither fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve."

الذين يأكلون الربى لا يقومون إلا كما يقوم

"Those who consume usury will not stand on the Day of Resurrection except as one stands who has been beaten by Satan."

الذي يتخبطه الشيطان من المس

"Whom the devil has touched with madness."

ذلك بأنهم قالوا إنما البيع مثل الربى

This is because they said, "Trade is just like usury."

وأحل الله البيع وحرم الربى

"Allah has permitted trade and forbidden usury."

فمن جاءه موعياً

So whoever comes to him in a state of warning

وعظة من ربه فانتهى

A sermon from his Lord, so he ceased.

فله ما سلف وأمره إلى الله

He has what has passed, and his affair is up to Allah.

ومن عاد فأولئك أصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون

And whoever returns (to their old ways), they are the companions of the Fire; they will be therein eternally.

يمحق الله الربى ويربي الصدقات

"Allah erases usury and increases charity."

والله لا يحب كل كفار

And Allah does not love every disbeliever.

إن الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات وأقاموا الصلاة

Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds and established prayer.

وآتوا الزكاة لهم أجرهم عند ربهم

"And give the zakat; for them is their reward with their Lord."

ولا قوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون

"Neither grief will afflict them, nor will they be in a state of fear."

يا أيها الذين آمنوا اتقوا الله

O you who have believed, fear Allah.

وذروا ما بقي من الربى

"And leave what remains of usury."

إن كنتم مؤمنين

If you are believers.

فإن لم تفعلوا فأذنوا بحرب من الله ورسوله

"And if you do not do [this], then announce a war from Allah and His Messenger."

وإن تبتم فلكم رؤوس أموالكم

And if you repent, then for you are your principal.

لا تظلمون ولا تظلمون

Do not wrong others, nor be wronged.

وإن كان ذو عسرة فنظرة إلى ميسرة

"If someone is in financial difficulty, then grant them a delay until there is ease."

وأن تفعلوا فإنكم مؤمنين

"And if you do, then you are believers."

فأصدقوا خير لكم إن كنتم تعلمون

"Then be truthful, for it is better for you, if you only knew."

واتقوا يوما ترجعون فيه إلى الله

"And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allah."

ثم توفى كل نفس ما كسبت وهم لا يظلمون

Then every soul will be fully compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged.

يا أيها الذين آمنوا

O you who have believed

إذا تداينتم بدينكم

If you borrow from your debt.

إلى أجل مسمى فاكتبوه

"To a specified term, so write it."

وليكتب بينكم كاتب بالعدل

"And let a writer write between you in justice."

ولا يأبى كاتب أن يكتب كما علمه الله

And no writer refuses to write as God has taught him.

فليكتب وليمني الذي عليه الحق

"Let what is due be written down, and let the one who has the right dictate."

وليتق الله ربه

And let him fear his Lord.

ولا يبحث منه شيئا

And he does not seek anything from it.

فإن كان الذي عليه الحق سفيها أو ضعيفا

If the one who has the right is foolish or weak.

أو لا يستطيع أن يمل له

Or he cannot fulfill it for him.

فليمل الوليه بالعدل

Let the ruler be filled with justice.

واستشهدوا شهيدين من رجالكم

"And call two witnesses from among your men."

فإن لم يكونا رجلين فرجل وامرأتان

If there are not two men, then one man and two women.

ممن ترضون من الشهداء أن تضل إحداهما

"Whom do you approve of among the martyrs for one of them to be misled?"

فتذكر إحداهما الأخرى

So one of them reminded the other.

ولا يأبى الشهداء إذا ما دعوا

And the martyrs do not refuse when they are called.

ولا تسأموا أن تكتبوه صغيرا أو كبيرا إلى أجله

"And do not tire of writing it down, whether small or large, until its due date."

ذلكم أقصت عند الله وأقوم للشهادة وأدنى

That is the most suitable for establishing justice and is more likely to give evidence.

أن لا يكتبواه أحدهم أو كبيرا إلى أجله

"That no one should write it down for them or delay it for a long time."

إلا أن تكون تجارة حاضرة تديرونها بينكم

"Unless it is a present trade that you conduct among yourselves."

فليس عليكم جناح أن لا تكتبوها

There is no sin upon you if you do not write it.

وأشهدوا إذا تبايعتم ولا يضار كاتب ولا شهيد

"And when you conclude a contract, have witnesses, and neither a scribe nor a witness should be harmed."

وإن تفعلوا هذا فإنكم ستكونوا أحدهم

And if you do this, then you will be one of them.

فإنه فسوق بكم

Indeed, it is a wickedness with you.

واتقوا الله ويعلمكم الله

And fear Allah, and Allah will teach you.

والله بكل شيء عليم

And Allah is All-Knowing about everything.

وإن كنتم على سفر ولم تجدوا كاتبا فرهان مقبوضة

"And if you are on a journey and do not find a scribe, then a pledge taken."

فإن أمن بعضكم بعضا

"If some of you trust one another."

فليؤدنوا

Let them perform.

الذي ائت من أمانته

The one who is entrusted with his trust.

وليتق الله ربه

And let him fear his Lord.

ولا تكتموا الشهادة

And do not conceal the testimony.

ومن يكتمها فإنه آثم قلبه

"And whoever conceals it, his heart is sinful."

والله بما تعملون عليم

Indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

لله ما في السماوات وما في الأرض

To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth.

وإن تبدوا ما في أنفسكم

"And if you reveal what is in yourselves..."

أو تخفوه لهم

Or you hide it from them.

ويحاسبكم به الله

And Allah will hold you accountable for it.

فيغفر لمن يشاء

And He forgives whom He wills.

ويعذب من يشاء

And He punishes whom He wills.

والله على كل شيء قدير

And Allah is capable of all things.

آمن الرسول بما أنزل إليه من ربه والمؤمنون

The Messenger believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so did the believers.

كل آمن بما أنزل إليه من ربه والمؤمنون

"Everyone believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and the believers."

وأبدو بالله وملائكته وكتبه ورسله

"And I believe in God, His angels, His books, and His messengers."

لا نفرق بين أحد من رسله

We do not differentiate between any of His messengers.

وقالوا سمعنا وعطعنا غفرانك ربنا

They said, "We heard and we obeyed. Forgive us, our Lord."

وإليك المصير

And here is the fate.

لا يكلف الله نفسا إلا وَسْعَهَا

God does not burden a soul beyond its capacity.

لها ما كسبت وعليها ما اكتسبت

She has what she earned, and on her is what she acquired.

ترى أخبارها اعتبروا تحقيقاتها بمثال channel of love for us

You see her news, consider her investigations as an example of a channel of love for us.

رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِيْنَا أَوْ أَخْطَعْنَا

Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or made a mistake.

رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا

Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us.

رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ

Our Lord, and do not burden us with that which we have no ability to bear.

وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَنَّا

And pardon us, and forgive us, and have mercy on us.

أَنْتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.

رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَيْنَا

Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us.
