للرجال نصيب مما ترك الوالدان والأقربون

For men is a share of what parents and relatives leave behind.

وللنساء نصيب مما ترك الوالدان والأقربون

And for women is a share of what the parents and relatives leave behind.

مما قل منه أو كثر نصيبا مفروضا

"Whether little or much, a fixed share is mandated."

وإذا حضر القسمة أولو القربى واليتامى والمساكين فارزقوهم منه وقولوا لهم قولا معروفا

"And when the division is attended by relatives, orphans, and the needy, provide for them from it and speak to them a good word."

وليخشى الذين لو تركوا من خلفهم ذرية ضعافا خافوا عليهم فليتقوا الله وليقولوا قولا سديدا

And let those fear [to be seen to be] deficient who, if they left behind them weak offspring, would fear for them. So let them be conscious of Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.

إن الذين يأكلون أموال اليتامى ظلما إنما يأكلون في بطونهم نارا وسيصلون سعيرا

Indeed, those who consume the wealth of orphans unjustly are only swallowing fire into their bellies, and they will be burned in a blazing fire.

يوصيكم الله في أولادكم للذكر مثل حظ الأنثيين

Allah advises you regarding your children: for the male is the equivalent of the share of two females.

فإن كن نساءا

If they are women.

فوق اثنتين فلهن ثلثا ما ترك

Above two, they receive two-thirds of what is left.

وإن كانت واحدة فلها النصف

And if there is one, she gets half.

ولأبوين كل واحد منهما السلس مما ترك إن كان له ولد

"And for parents, each has a share of what he leaves behind if he has a child."

فإن لم يكن له ولد وورثه أكبر

If he has no son and the largest heir inherits him.

فلأمه الثلث فإن كان له إخوة فلأمه الثلث من بعد وصية يوصي بها أودين

"Then for his mother is a third, and if he has siblings, then for his mother is a third after any will he may have made or any debts."

آباؤكم وأبناؤكم لا تدرون أيهم أقرب لكم نفعا

Your parents and your children do not know which of them is closer to you in benefit.

فريضة من الله إن الله كان عليما حكيما

A duty from God; indeed, God is All-Knowing, Wise.
