الأنعام

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم

I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed devil.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

الحمد لله الذي خلق السماوات والأرض وجعل الظلمات والنور

Praise be to Allah who created the heavens and the earth and made darkness and light.

ثم الذين كفروا بربهم يعدلون

Then those who disbelieve in their Lord are unjust.

هو الذي خلقكم من طين ثم قضى أجلا وأجل مسمى عنده ثم أنتم تمترون

He is the One who created you from clay, then established a term and a specified time with Him; yet you are in doubt.

ثم أنتم تمترون

Then you doubt.

وهو الله في السماوات وفي الأرض يعلم سركم وجهركم ويعلم ما تكسبون

He is Allah in the heavens and on the earth; He knows your secrets and what you disclose, and He knows what you earn.

وما تأتيهم من آية من آيات ربهم إلا كانوا عنها معرضين

"And whenever a sign from the signs of their Lord comes to them, they turn away from it."

فقد كذبوا بالحق لما جاءوا

They indeed denied the truth when it came to them.

فسوف يأتيهم أنباء ما كانوا به يستهزئون

Then news of what they used to mock will come to them.

ألم يروا كم أهلكنا من قبلهم من قرن مكناهم في الأرض ما لم نمكن لكم وأرسلنا

"Did they not see how many we destroyed before them from generations whom we had established on the earth in ways we have not established you, and We sent..."

ورسلنا السماء عليهم مدرارا وجعلنا الأنهار تجري من تحتهم فأهلكناهم بذنوبهم

"And We sent down the heaven upon them in torrents and made the rivers flow beneath them, so We destroyed them for their sins."

وأنشأنا من بعدهم قرنا آخرين

"And We established after them another generation."

في قرطاس فلمسوه بأيديهم لقال الذين كفروا إن هذا إلا سحر مبين

"If we had sent down a scripture on paper and they had touched it with their hands, the disbelievers would have said, 'This is only blatant magic.'"

وقالوا لولا أنزل عليه ملك ولو أنزلنا ملكا لقضي الأمر ثم لا ينظرون

And they said, "Why has a prophethood not been sent down to him by an angel?" And if We had sent down an angel, the matter would have been decided, then they would not be given any respite.

ولو جعلناه ملكا لجعلناه رجلا وللبسنا عليهم ما يلبسون

"And if We had made him an angel, We would have made him a man and covered them with what they cover themselves."

ولقد استهزئ برسل من قبلك فحاق بالذين سخروا منهم ما كانوا به يستهزئون

And indeed, messengers before you were ridiculed, but those who mocked them were surrounded by what they used to ridicule.

قل سيروا في الأرض ثم انظروا كيف كان عاقبة المكذبين

"Say, 'Travel through the land and observe how was the end of the deniers.'"

قل لمن ما في السماوات والأرض قل لله كتب على نفسه الرحمة

Say, "To whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth?" Say, "To Allah. He has decreed upon Himself mercy."

ليجمعنكم إلى يوم القيامة لا ريب فيه

He will surely gather you to the Day of Resurrection, there is no doubt about it.

الذين خسروا أنفسهم فهم لا يؤمنون

Those who have lost themselves do not believe.

وله ما سكن في الليل والنهار وهو السميع العليم

"And to Him belongs what inhabits the night and the day, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."

قل أغير الله أتخذ وليا فاطر السماوات والأرض وهو يطعم ولا يطعم

Say, "Should I take for myself a protector other than Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, while it is He who feeds and is not fed?"

قل إني أمرت أن أكون أوليهم

Say, "I have been commanded to be the first of them."

ولمن أسلم ولا تكونن من المشركين

"And for whoever submits, do not be among the polytheists."

قل إني أخاف إن عصيت ربي عذاب يوم عظيم

Say, "Indeed, I fear the punishment of a great day if I disobey my Lord."

من يصرف عنه يومئذ فقد رحمه وذلك الفوز المبين

Whoever is diverted from it that day has had mercy upon him, and that is the clear success.

وإن يمسسك الله بضر فلا كاشف له إلا هو

And if Allah touches you with harm, there is no one to remove it except Him.

وإن يمسسك بخير فهو على كل شيء قدير

And if He touches you with good, then He is capable of all things.

وهو القاهر فوق عباده وهو الحكيم الخبير

He is the Dominant over His servants, and He is the Wise, the All-Aware.

قل أي شيء أكبر شهادة

Say, "What is greater than a testimony?"

قل الله شهيد بيني وبينكم

Say, "Allah is a witness between me and you."

وأوحي إلي هذا القرآن لأنذركم به ومن بلغ

"And this Quran was revealed to me so that I may warn you thereby and whomever it reaches."

أئنكم لتشهدون أن مع الله آخرون

"Do you indeed witness that there are others with Allah?"

قل لا أشهد

Say, "I do not witness."

قل إنما هو إله واحد

Say, "He is only one God."

وإنني بريء مما تشركون

"And I am innocent of what you associate."

الذين آتيناهم الكتاب يعرفونه

"Those to whom We have given the Book recognize it."

كما يعرفون أبناءهم

As they know their own children.

الذين خسروا أنفسهم فهم لا يؤمنون

Those who have lost themselves do not believe.

ومن أظلم ممن افترى على الله كذبا أو كذب بآياته

And who is more unjust than one who fabricates a lie against Allah or denies His signs?

إنه لا يفلح الظالمون

"The wrongdoers will not succeed."

ويوم أبناءهم

And the day of their children.

ثم نحشرهم جميعا

Then We gather them all together.

ثم نقول للذين أشركوا

Then we say to those who have associated partners (with Allah)...

أين شركاؤكم الذين كنتم تزعمون

Where are your partners that you used to claim?

ثم لم تكن فتنتهم إلا

Then their temptation was only

أن قالوا والله ربنا ما كنا مشركين

They said, "By Allah, our Lord, we were not polytheists."

انظر كيف كذبوا على أنفسهم

Look how they lied to themselves.

وضل عنهم ما كانوا يفترون

And what they used to fabricate left them.

ومنهم من يستمع إليهم

And there are some who listen to them.

ومنهم من يعلمك

And among them are those who teach you.

وجعلنا على قلوبهم أكنة

"And We made covers upon their hearts."

أن يفقهوه وفي آذانهم وقرا

"That they may understand it, and there is a deafness in their ears."

وإن يروا كل آية لا يؤمنوا بها

"And if they see every sign, they will not believe in them."

حتى إذا جاءوك يجادلونك

"Until when they come to you, they argue with you."

يقول الذين كفروا

Those who disbelieve say.

يقول الذين كفروا إن هذا إلا أساطير الأولين

Those who disbelieve say, "This is nothing but the legends of the ancients."

وهم ينهون عنه وينأون عنه وإن يهلكون إلا أنفسهم وما يشعرون

And they forbid it and turn away from it, and they destroy only themselves, but they do not perceive.

ولو ترى إذ وقفوا على النار فقالوا يا ليتنا نرد ولا نكذب بآيات ربنا ونكون من المؤمنين

"And if you could see when they stand before the Fire, and they say, 'Oh, woe to us! If only we could be returned to life, we would not deny the signs of our Lord and we would be among the believers.'"

بل بدى لهم ما كانوا يخفون من قبل

But what they had been hiding before appeared to them.

ولو ردوا لعلموا

"And if they were to return, they would know."

وقالوا لما نهوا عنه وإنهم لكاذبون

And they said when they were forbidden from it, "Indeed, they are liars."

وقالوا إن هي إلا حياتنا الدنيا وما نحن بمبعوثين

And they said, "There is nothing but our worldly life; we will not be resurrected."

ولو ترى إذ وقفوا على ربهم

"And if you could see when they stand before their Lord."

قال أليس هذا بالحق

He said, "Isn't this the truth?"

وقالوا لما نهوا عنه وإنهم لكاذبون

And they said, "When they were prohibited from it, indeed, they are liars."

ولو ترى إذ وقفوا على ربهم

"And if you could see when they stand before their Lord."

قالوا بلى وربنا

They said, "Yes, by our Lord."

قال فذوقوا العذاب بما كنتم تكفرون

He said, "So taste the punishment for what you used to deny."

قد خسر الذين كذبوا بلقاء الله

Indeed, those who denied the meeting with Allah have lost.

حتى إذا جاءتهم الساعة بغتة

Until when the Hour comes upon them suddenly.

قالوا لهم أماناً

They said to them, "Our safety."

قالوا يا حسرتنا

They said, "Oh, our regret!"

قالوا يا حسرتنا على ما فرطنا فيها

They said, "Oh, woe to us for what we neglected in it."

وهم يحملون أوزارهم على ظهورهم

"And they carry their burdens on their backs."

ألا ساء ما يزرون

"How evil is what they sow."

وما الحياة الدنيا إلا لعب وله

"And the worldly life is just play and amusement."

ولا الدار الآخرة خير للذين يتقون

"And the Hereafter is better for those who fear [Allah]."

أفلا تعقلون

Do you not understand?

قد نعلم إنه ليحزنك الذي يقولون

We know that what they say will surely sadden you.

فإنهم لا يكذبونك ولكن الظالمين بآيات الله

For they do not deny you, but it is the wrongdoers who deny the signs of Allah.

يجحدون

They deny.

ولقد كذبت رسل من قبلك

And indeed, several messengers before you were denied.

فصبروا على ما كذبوا وأوذوا

So they were patient with what they were lied about and harmed.

حتى أتاهم نصرنا

Until our victory came to them.

ولا مبدل لكلمات الله

And there is no altering the words of God.

ولقد جاءك من نبأ المرسل

And indeed, there has come to you the news of the messengers.

وإن كان كبر عليك إعراضهم

And if their turning away is difficult for you.

فإن استطعت أن تبتغي نفقا في الأرض

"If you can seek a passage in the earth"

أو سلما في السماء

Or peace in the sky.

فتأتيهم بآية

So a sign comes to them.

ولو شاء الله لجمعهم على الهدى

"And if Allah had willed, He would have gathered them upon guidance."

فلا تكونن من الجاهلين

So do not be among the ignorant.

إنما يستجيب الذين يسمعون

Only those who listen will respond.

والموتى يبعثهم الله ثم إليه يرجعون

"And the dead will be resurrected by Allah, then to Him they will return."

وقالوا لولا نزل عليه آية

And they said, "Why has no sign been sent down to him?"

من ربه

From his Lord.

قل إن الله قادر على أن ينزل آية

Say, "Indeed, Allah is capable of sending down a verse."

ولكن أكثرهم لا يعلمون

But most of them do not know.

وما من دابة في الأرض

And there is no creature on the earth.

ولا طابة

And no good.

إلا أمم أمثالكم

Except for nations like you.

ما فرطنا في الكتاب من شيء

We did not leave anything out in the Book.

ثم إلى ربهم يحشرون

Then they will be gathered to their Lord.

والذين كذبوا بآياتنا صموا

"And those who denied our signs are deaf."

وبكم في الظلمات

"And with you in the darkness."

من يشأ الله يضلله

Whoever Allah wills, He leads astray.

ومن يشأ يجعله على صراط مستقيم

"And whoever wills, He makes him on a straight path."

قل أرأيتكم إن أتاكم عذاب الله

Say, "Have you considered if the punishment of Allah comes to you?"

أو أتتكم الساعة أغير الله تدعون

"Or has the hour come upon you that you call upon Allah?"

أغير الله تدعون

"Is it other than Allah that you call upon?"

إن كنتم صادقين

If you are truthful.

بل إياه تدعون

"Rather, it is Him you call upon."

فيكشف ما تدعون إليه إن شاء

And He will reveal what you are calling for, if He wills.

وتنسون ما تشركون

"And you forget what you associate (with Him)."

ولقد أرسلنا إلى أمم

And indeed, We sent [messengers] to nations.

مما تدعون إليه إن شاء وتنسون ما تشركون

"What you call upon instead of Him is what you associate with Him."

من قبلك فأخذناهم بالبأساء والضراء

"Before you, we afflicted them with hardship and adversity."

لعلهم يتضرعون

Perhaps they are supplicating.

فلولا إذ جاءهم بأسنا تضرعوا

"If only when Our punishment came to them, they had humbled themselves."

ولكن قست قلوبهم

But their hearts became hardened.

وزين لهم الشيطان ما كانوا يعملون

And the devil made their deeds seem alluring to them.

فلما نسوا ما ذكروا به

So when they forgot what they had been reminded of

فتحنا عليهم أبواب كل شيء

"We opened for them the doors of everything."

حتى إذا فرحوا

Until they rejoice.

بما أوتوا

With what they have been given.

أخذناهم بغتة

We took them by surprise.

فإذا هم مبلسون

"So they were despondent."

فقطع دابر القوم الذين ظلموا

"And He cut off the roots of the people who wronged."

والحمد لله رب العالمين

And praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

قل أرأيتم إن أخذ الله

Say, "Have you considered if Allah took away...?"

سمعكم وأبصاركم

Your hearing and your sight.

وختم على قلوبكم

"And He has sealed upon your hearts."

من إله غير الله يأتيكم به

"From a god other than Allah comes it to you."

انظر كيف نصرف الآيات

"Look how we arrange the verses."

ثم هم يصدفون

Then they turn away.

قل أرأيتكم إن أتاكم

Say, "Have you considered, if there comes to you..."

عذاب الله بغتة أو جهودا

The torment of God comes suddenly or gradually.

فلن يهلكوا بشكل كبير

They will not perish significantly.

إلا القوم الظالمون

Except for the wrongdoing people.

وما نرسل المرسلين

And We do not send the messengers.

إلا مبشرين ومنذرين

"Except for bearers of good news and warners."

فمن آمن وأصلح

So whoever believes and does righteous deeds

فلا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون

So there is no fear for them, nor do they grieve.

والذين كذبوا بآياتهم

And those who denied their signs.

فلن يمسهم العذاب بما كانوا يفسقون

So the punishment will not touch them for what they used to disobey.

قل لا أقول لكم عندي خزائن الله

Say, "I do not say to you that I have the treasures of Allah."

ولا أعلم الغيب

And I do not know the unseen.

ولا أقول لكم إني ملك

And I do not say to you that I am a king.

إن أتبع إلا ما يوحى

"I only follow what is revealed to me."

إليه

To him

قل هل يستوي الأعمى والبصير

Say, "Are the blind and the seeing equal?"

أفلا تتفكرون

"Do you not reflect?"

وأنذر به الذين يخافون

And warn with it those who fear.

أن يحشروا إلى ربهم

To be gathered to their Lord.

ليس لهم من دونه

They have none other than Him.

من دونه ولي

There is no guardian other than him.

ولا شفيع لعلهم يتقون

"And there will be no intercessor, so perhaps they will fear [Allah]."

ولا تطرد الذين يدعون ربهم

And do not drive away those who invoke their Lord.

بالغداة والعشي يريدون وجهه

"In the morning and in the evening, they seek His pleasure."

ما عليك من حسابهم من شيء

"Do not be concerned about their account at all."

وما من حسابك عليهم من شيء

"And you have no account against them at all."

فتطردهم فتكون من الظالمين

So you expel them and then you will be among the wrongdoers.

وكذلك فتنا بعضهم ببعض

And thus We have made some of them a trial for others.

ليقولوا أهؤلاء من الله عليهم

"Let them say, 'Are these the ones whom Allah has favored?'"

الله عليهم من بيننا

God be with them among us.

أليس الله بأعلم بالشاكرين

Isn't Allah the Most Knowledgeable of the thankful?

وإذا جاءك الذين يؤمنون بآياتنا

"And when those come to you who believe in Our signs..."

فقل سلام عليكم

So say, "Peace be upon you."

كتب ربكم على نفسه الرحمة

Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy.

أنه من عمل منكم سوءا بجهالة

"Whoever among you does a wrong deed out of ignorance..."

ثم تاب من بعده وأصلح

Then he repented afterwards and did good deeds.

فأنه غفور رحيم

Indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.

وكذلك نفصل الآيات

And thus We explain the verses in detail.

ولتستبين سبيل المجرمين

"And so that the way of the criminals may become clear."

قل إني نهيت أن أعبد الذين تدعون من دون الله

Say, "Indeed, I have been forbidden from worshiping those you invoke besides Allah."

قل لا أتبع أهواءكم

Say, "I do not follow your desires."

قد ضللت إذا وما أنا من المهتدين

"I have indeed gone astray, and I am not among the guided."

قل إني على مهتدين

Say, "Indeed, I am among the guided."

قل إني على بينة من ربي

Say, "Indeed, I am on clear evidence from my Lord."

وكذبتم به

And you lied about it.

ما عندي ما تستعجلون به

I don't have what you are hurrying for.

إن الحكم إلا لله

The judgment belongs only to God.

يقص الحق وهو خير الفاصلين

"Indeed, the truth is told, and He is the best of judges."

قل لو أن عندي ما تستعجلون به

Say, "If I had what you are hastening for..."

لقضي الأمر بيني وبينكم

The matter would be settled between me and you.

والله أعلم بالظالمين

And Allah knows best about the oppressors.

وعنده مفاتح الغيب

"And with Him are the keys to the unseen."

لا يعلمها إلا هو

No one knows it except Him.

ويعلم ما في البر والبحر

And He knows what is in the land and in the sea.

وما تسقط من ورقة إلا يعلمها

"And no leaf falls but He knows it."

ولا حبة في ظلمات الأرض

"Nor a seed in the darkness of the earth."

ولا رطب ولا يابس إلا في كتاب مبين

"Neither moist nor dry, except in a clear record."

وهو الذي يتوفاكم بالليل

And He it is who takes your souls at night.

ويعلم ما جرحتم بالنهار

"And He knows what you have wounded during the day."

ثم يبعثكم فيه ليقضى أجل مسمى

Then He will raise you in it to fulfill a specified term.

ثم إليه مرجل

Then to Him is a boiling pot.

ثم إليه مرجعكم

Then to Him will be your return.

ثم ينبئكم بما كنتم تعملون

Then He will inform you of what you used to do.

وهو القاهر فوق عباده

"And He is the Supreme Conqueror over His servants."

ويرسل عليكم حفظة

And He sends upon you guardians.

حتى إذا جاء أحدكم الموت

"And when death comes to one of you..."

توفته رسلنا

Our messengers took him.

وهم لا يفرطون

And they do not neglect.

ثم ردوا إلى الله مولاهم الحق

Then they will return to Allah, their true Lord.

ألا له الحكم وهو أسرع الحاسبين

"Indeed, to Him belongs the judgment, and He is the quickest of calculators."

قل من ينجيكم من ظلمات البر والبحر تدعونه تضرعا وخفية لإن أنجانا من هذه لنكونن من الشاكرين

Say, "Who will save you from the darkness of the land and the sea? You invoke Him supplicating and in secrecy, 'If He saves us from this, we will surely be among the grateful.'"

قل الله ينجيكم منها ومن كل كرب ثم أنتم تشركون

Say, "God delivers you from it and from every distress, yet you still associate partners with Him."

قل هو القادر على أن يبعث عليكم عذابا من فوقكم أو من تحت أرجلكم

Say, "He is able to send upon you a punishment from above you or from beneath your feet."

أو يلبسكم شيعا ويذيق بعضكم بأس بعض

"Or He will make you into factions and cause you to taste the aggression of one another."

انظر كيف نصرف الآيات لعلهم يفرطون پfort

"Look how We explain the verses so that they may reflect."

لعلهم يفقهون

Perhaps they will understand.

وكذب به قومك وهو الحق

"And your people have denied it, while it is the truth."

قل لست عليكم بوكيل

Say, "I am not your guardian."

لكل نبأ مستقر

Every news has its own place.

وسوف تعلمون

And you will know.

وإذا رأيت الذين يخوضون في آياتنا

"And when you see those who engage in our verses..."

فأعرض عنهم حتى يخوضوا في حديث غيره

So turn away from them until they engage in a talk of another kind.

وإما ينسينك الشيطان

And if the devil causes you to forget.

فلا تقعد بعد الذكرى مع القوم الظالمين

So do not sit after the reminder with the wrongdoing people.

وإذا رأيت الذين يخوضون في آياتنا

And when you see those who engage in our verses.

فأعرض عنهم حتى يخوضوا في حديث غيره

So turn away from them until they talk about something else.

وما على الذين يتقون من حسابهم من شيء

And there is no sin upon those who are cautious from their account.

ولكن ذكرى لعلهم يتقون

"But a reminder, perhaps they will become righteous."

وذر الذين اتخذوا دينهم لعبا ولهوا

"And leave those who have taken their religion as play and amusement."

وغرتهم الحياة الدين

And the life deceived them.

وذكر به أن تبسل نفس بما كسبت

"And remind [them] that no soul earns [blame] except against itself."

ليس لها من دون الله ولي ولا شفيع

"She has no protector or intercessor besides God."

وإن تعدلتها

And if you adjusted them.

لكل عدل لا يؤخذ منها

"Every justice is not taken from it."

أولئك الذين أبسلوا بما كسبوا

Those who have been punished for what they earned.

لهم شراب من حميم

They have a drink of boiling water.

وعذاب أليم بما كانوا يكفرون

And a painful punishment for what they used to disbelieve.

قل أندعوا من دون الله ما لا ينفعنا ولا يضرنا

Say, "Shall we call upon that which does not benefit us or harm us, besides Allah?"

ونرد على أعقابنا بعد إذ هدان الله كالذي استهوته الشياطين

"And we turn back on our heels after Allah has guided us, like one whom the devils have enticed."

كالذي استهوته الشياطين

Like one whom devils have enticed.

في الأرض حيران له أصحاب يدعونه إلى الهدأتنا

On the earth, there are those who are confused; they have companions who call them to tranquility.

قل إن هدى الله هو الهدى

Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the true guidance."

وأمرنا لنسلم لرب العالمين

And we are commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds.

وأن أقيموا الله ونسلم لرب العالمين

"And that you establish Allah and submit to the Lord of the worlds."

وأنقموا الصلاة واتقوه

And establish prayer and fear Him.

وهو الذي إليه تحشرون

"And it is He to whom you will be gathered."

وهو الذي خلق السماوات والأرض بالحق

And He is the One who created the heavens and the earth in truth.

ويوم يقول كن فيكون قوله الحق

"And the Day He says, 'Be,' and it is, His word is the truth."

وله الملك يوم ينفخ في الصلاة

"To Him belongs the kingdom on the Day when the trumpet is blown."

وعالم الغيب والشهادة

"And the world of the unseen and the witnessed."

وهو الحكيم الخبير

And He is the All-Wise, the All-Aware.

وإذ قال إبراهيم لأبيه آزر

And when Abraham said to his father Azar

أتتخذ أصناما آلهة

Do you take idols as gods?

إني أراك وقومك في ضلال مبين

"I see you and your people in clear misguidance."

وكذلك نري إبراهيم ملكوت السماوات والأرض

And thus We showed Ibrahim the dominion of the heavens and the earth.

وليكون من الموقنين

And to be among the certain.

فلما جن عليه الليل رأى كوكبا

So when night fell upon him, he saw a star.

قال هذا ربي

He said, "This is my Lord."

فلما أفل قال لا أحبه

When it set, he said, "I do not love those that set."

أحب الآفلين

I love the sunset.

فلما رأى القمر بازغا

When he saw the moon rising.

قال هذا ربي

He said, "This is my Lord."

فلما أفل قال لئن لم يهدني ربي

"When it set, he said, 'If my Lord does not guide me...'"

لأكونن من القوم الضالين

"I will surely be among the misguided people."

فلما رأى الشمس

When he saw the sun.

بازغة قال هذا ربي هذا أكبر

"This is my Lord, this is the Greatest."

فلما أفلت قال يا قوم

"When it set, he said, O my people."

إني بريء مما تشركون

I am innocent of what you associate (with God).

إني وجهت وجهي للذي فطر السماوات

"I have directed my face towards the One who created the heavens."

والأرض حنيفا

"And the earth is a proper place."

وما أنا من المشركين

And I am not one of the polytheists.

وحاجه قومه

"And he argued with his people."

قال أتحاجوني في الله وقد هدان

He said, "Do you argue with me about God when He has guided me?"

ولا أحبه

And I do not love him.

ولا أخاف ما تشركون به

And I do not fear what you associate with Him.

إلا أن يشاء ربي شيئا

"Unless my Lord wills something."

وسع ربي كل شيء علما

My Lord has encompassed all things in knowledge.

أفلا تتذكرون

Will you not remember?

وكيف أخاف ما أشركتم

And how should I fear what you have associated?

ولا تخافون أني أشرككم

And do not fear that I will associate partners with you.

لأنكم أشركتم بالله

Because you have associated partners with Allah.

ما لم ينزل به عليكم سلطانا

What has not been sent down to you as authority.

فأي الفريقين أحق بالأمن

So which of the two groups is more deserving of security?

إن كنتم تعلمون

If you know.

الذين آمنوا ولم يلبسوا إيمانهم

"Those who have believed and not mixed their belief with injustice."

بظلم أولئك

By the injustice of those.

لهم الأمن وهم مهتدون

They have security and they are guided.

وتلك حجتنا آتينا إبراهيم على قومه

"And that was Our proof which We gave to Abraham against his people."

نرفع درجات من نشاء

"We raise in rank whom We will."

إن ربك حكيم عليم

Indeed, your Lord is Wise and All-Knowing.

ووهبنا له إسحاق ويعقوب

And We granted him Isaac and Jacob.

كلا هديناه ونوحا هدينا من قبل

"Indeed, We guided both these and Noah prior."

ومن ذريته داود وسليمان وأيوب ويوسف وموسى وهاروم

And from his descendants were David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses, and Aaron.

وكذلك نجزي المحسنين

And thus do We reward the good-doers.

وزكريا ويحيا وعيسى وإلياس

And Zakariya, Yahya, Issa, and Ilyas.

كل من الصالحين

All of the righteous.

وإسماعيل واليسع ويونس ولوطا

And Ishmael, Elisha, Jonah, and Lot.

وكلا فضلنا على العالمين

And We have preferred both of them over the worlds.

ومن آبائهم

And from their fathers.

وذرياتهم وإخوانهم

And their offspring and their brothers.

واجتبيناهم وهديناهم إلى صراط مستقيم

"And We chose them and guided them to a straight path."

ذلك هدى الله يهدي به من يشاء من عباده

That is the guidance of Allah; He guides whom He wills of His servants.

ولو أشركوا لحبط عنهم ما كانوا يعملون

And if they had associated others with Allah, whatever they used to do would have been of no benefit to them.

أولئك الذين آتيناهم الكتاب والحكم والنبوة

Those to whom We gave the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood.

فإن يكفر بها هؤلاء فقد وكلنا بها قوما ليسوا بها بكافرين

If these disbelieve in it, then We have assigned to it a people who are not disbelievers in it.

أولئك الذين آتيناهم الكتاب والحكم والنبوة فإن يكفر بها هؤلاء فقد وكلنا بها قوما ليسوا بها بكافرين

Those to whom We have given the Scripture, the judgment, and the prophethood—if they deny it, We have entrusted a people with it who are not disbelievers in it.

أولئك الذين هدى الله فبهداه مقتده قل لا أسألكم عليه أجرا إن هو إلا ذكرى للعالمين

Those whom Allah has guided, so follow their guidance. Say, "I do not ask you for it any reward. It is but a reminder for the worlds."

وما قدر الله حق قدره إذ قالوا ما أنزل الله على بشر من شيء

"And they did not appraise Allah with true appraisal when they said, 'Allah has not revealed anything to a human being.'"

قل من أنزل الكتاب الذي جاء به موسى نورا وهدى للنبي

Say, "Who sent down the Book that Moses brought as a light and guidance for the Prophet?"

تجعلونه قراطي ستبدونها وتخفون كثيرا

You will make it a quarter and will show it and hide a lot.

وعلمتم ما لم تعلموا أنتم ولا آباؤكم

And you have been taught what neither you nor your forefathers knew.

قل الله ثم ذرهم في خوضهم يلعبون

Say, "God," and then leave them to play in their distraction.

وهذا كتاب أنزلناه مبارك مصدق الذي بين يديه

"And this is a Book We have sent down, blessed, confirming what was before it."

ولتنذر أم القرى ومن حولها

"And to warn the Mother of Cities and those around it."

والذين يؤمنون بالآخرة يؤمنون به

And those who believe in the Hereafter believe in him.

وهم على قدره ويؤمنون به

And they are in accordance with His might and believe in Him.

ومن أظلم ممن افترى على الله كذبا

And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah?

أو قال أوحي إلي ولم يوحى إليه شيء

Or he said it was revealed to me, while nothing was revealed to him.

ومن قال سأنزل مثل ما أنزل الله

"And who says, 'I will reveal like what Allah has revealed.'"

ولو ترى أن الله يحفظه ويحفظه

If only you could see that Allah preserves him and protects him.

وإذ الظالمون في غمرات الموت

"And when the wrongdoers are in the throes of death."

والملائكة باسطوا أيديهم

"And the angels are extending their hands."

أخرجوا أنفسكم

Get yourselves out.

اليوم تجزون عذاب الهون

"Today you will be rewarded with the punishment of humiliation."

بما كنتم تجزونه

What were you cutting it with?

وكنتم تقولون على الله غير الحق

And you used to speak about Allah untruthfully.

وكنتم عن آياته تستكبرون

And you used to be arrogant about His signs.

ولقد جئتمونا فرادا كما خلقناكم أول مرة

"And indeed, you have come to us alone as we created you the first time."

وتركتم ما خولناكم وراء ظهوركم

"And you left what We granted you behind your backs."

وما نرى معكم شفعاءكم

"And we do not see with you your intercessors."

الذين زعمتم أنهم فيكم شركاء

"Those whom you claimed are your partners."

لقد تقطع بينكم وضل عنكم ما كنتم تزعمون

What you used to claim has been cut off from you and has gone astray.

إن الله فالق الحب والنواب

Indeed, God is the Splitter of seeds and fruits.

يخرج الحي من الميت ومخرج الميت من الحي

The living comes out of the dead, and the dead comes out of the living.

ذلكم الله

That is Allah.

فأنا تؤفكون

So how are you deluded?

فالق الإصباح وجعل الليل سكنا

He is the Splitter of the Dawn and has made the night a resting place.

والشمس والقمر حصبانا

"And the sun and the moon are two great signs."

ذلك تقدير العزيز العليم

That is the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing.

وهو الذي جعل لكم النجوم لتهتدوا بها في ظلمات البر والبحر

And He is the one who made for you the stars so that you may be guided by them in the darkness of the land and the sea.

قد فصلنا الآيات لقوم يعلمون

We have explained the signs for a people who know.

وهو الذي أنشأكم من نفس واحدة فمستقيم

"And He is the One who created you from one soul, then made it upright."

وقر ومستودع

Depository and storehouse.

قد فصلنا الآيات لقوم يفقهون

We have detailed the verses for a people who understand.

وهو الذي أنزل من السماء ماء

"And It is He who sends down water from the sky."

فأخرجنا به نبات كل شيء

"So we brought forth thereby the growth of everything."

فأخرجنا منه خضرا نخرج منه حبا متراكبا

"And We brought forth from it green, from which We produce grain in bunches."

ومن النخل من طلعها قنوان دانية

"From the palm trees, there are clusters of dates hanging low."

وجنات من أعناب والزيتون والرمضان

And gardens of grapevines, olives, and pomegranates.

ومن نمشتبها وغير متشابه

And what is similar to it and not similar.

انظروا إلى ثمره إذا أثمر وينعه

Look at its fruit when it bears fruit and its ripeness.

إن في ذلكم لآيات لقوم يؤمنون

Indeed, in that are signs for a people who believe.

وجعلوا لله شركاء

And they made partners for Allah.

وخلقهم وخرقوا له بنين وبنات بغير علم

"And they created for Him sons and daughters without any knowledge."

سبحانه وتعالى عما يصفون

Glory be to Him and exalted is He above what they describe.

بديع السماوات والأرض

The Creator of the heavens and the earth.

أنا يكون له ولد ولم تكن له صاحبه

I have a son and he does not have a partner.

وخلقهم وخلقهم وخلقهم

And He created them and created them and created them.

وخلق كل شيء وهو بكل شيء عليم

"And He created everything, and He is All-Knowing of everything."

ذلكم الله ربكم لا إله إلا هو

That is Allah, your Lord; there is no deity except Him.

خالق كل شيء فاعبدوه

The creator of everything, so worship Him.

وهو على كل شيء وكيل

"And He is the Guardian over all things."

لا تدركه الأبغى

The jealous cannot comprehend him.

وهو يدرك الأبصار وهو اللطيف الخبير

He is the All-Seeing and the Subtle, the All-Aware.

قد جاءكم بصائر من ربكم

There has come to you clear proofs from your Lord.

فمن أبصر فلنفسه ومن عميف عليها

"So whoever sees, it is for his own soul; and whoever is blind, it is against it."

وما أنا عليكم بحفير

"And I am not a guardian over you."

وكذلك نصرف الآيات

And thus We explain the verses.

وليقولوا درست ولنبينه لقوم يعلمون

"And they say, 'You have studied,' and let us make it clear to a people who know."

اتبع ما أوحي إليك من ربك

Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord.

لا إله إلا هو

There is no god but He.

وأعرض عن المشركين

"And turn away from the polytheists."

ولو شاءتك

And if He wills you.

وما اللهما أشركوا وما جعلناك عليهم حفيظا وما أنت عليهم بوكيل

"And your Lord is not oblivious to what they do, nor have We made you a guardian over them, nor are you a protector for them."

ولا تسبوا الذين يدعون من دون الله فيسبوا الله عدوا بغير علم

And do not insult those whom they invoke besides Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge.

كذلك زينا لكل أمة عملهم ثم إلى ربهم مرجعهم

Thus, We have made fair-seeming to every nation its work. Then to their Lord is their return.

ثم إلى ربهم مرجعهم

Then to their Lord is their return.

وينبئهم بما كانوا يعملون

And He informs them of what they used to do.

وأقسموا بالله جهد أيمانهم لئن جاءتهم آية ليؤمنن بها

And they swore by Allah with all their might that if a sign came to them, they would surely believe in it.

قل إنما الآيات عند الله

Say, "The signs are only with Allah."

وما يشعركم أن

And what makes you feel that

إنها إذا جاءت لا يؤمنون

"When it comes, they will not believe."

ونقلب أفئدتهم وأبصارهم كما لم يؤمنوا به أول مرة

"And We turn their hearts and their sights, as they did not believe in it the first time."

ونذرهم في طغيانهم يعمهون

"And We left them in their transgression, wandering blindly."

ولو أننا

And if we

نزلنا إليهم الملائكة وكلمهم الموتى

The angels descended to them and the dead spoke to them.

وحشرنا عليهم كل شيء قبلا ما كانوا ليؤمنوا إلا الله

"And We gathered upon them everything before them; they would not believe except in Allah."

وكذلك جعلنا لكل نبي عدوا شياطين الإنس والجن

And thus We have made for every prophet an enemy - devils among humankind and jinn.

يوحي بعضهم إلى بعض زخرف القول غرورا

Some of them inspire each other with embellished speech, deceiving.

ولو شاء ربك ما فعلوه فذرهم وما يفترون

"And if your Lord had willed, they would not have done it; so leave them and what they invent."

ولتصغى إليه أفئدة الذين لا يؤمنون بالآية

"And let the hearts of those who do not believe in the verse lean towards it."

وليرضوه وليقترفوا ما هم مقترفون

And let them be pleased with it, and let them commit what they are committing.

أفغير الله أبتغي حكما وهو الذي أنزل إليكم الكتاب مفصلا

"Should I seek a judge other than Allah, when He it is who has sent down to you the Book explained in detail?"

والذين آتيناهم الكتاب يعلمون أنه

And those to whom We have given the Book know that it is.

منزل من ربك بالحق فلا تكونن من الممترين

A house from your Lord with truth, so do not be among the doubters.

وتمت كلمة ربك صدقا وعدلا لا مبدل لكلماته وهو السميع العليم

And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice. There is no changing His words, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

وإن تطع أكثر من ربك فلا تكون من الممترين

And if you obey most of those who are on the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah.

فكلوا مما ذكر اسم الله عليه إن كنتم بآياته مؤمنين

So eat of what the name of Allah has been mentioned upon if you are believers in His verses.

وما لكم ألا تأكلوا مما ذكر اسم الله عليه وقد فصل لكم ما حرمون

"And why should you not eat from that upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned, while He has explained to you in detail what is forbidden to you?"

وما لكم ألا تأكلوا مما ذكر اسم الله عليه وقد فصل لكم

"And why should you not eat from that upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned, while He has explained to you in detail?"

ومن الذين يكسبون الإثم سيجزون بما كانوا يقترفون

And those who earn sin will be recompensed for what they used to commit.

ولا تأكلوا مما لم يذكر اسم الله عليه وإنه لفسق

"And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, and indeed, it is a transgression."

وإن الشياطين ليوحون إلى أوليائهم ليجزونوا

"And indeed, the devils inspire their allies to argue with them."

وإن أطعتموهم إنكم لمشركون

"And if you obey them, indeed you will be polytheists."

أَوَمَن كَانَ مَيْتًا فَأَحْيَيْنَاهُ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُ نُورًا يَمْشِي بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ كَمَنْ مَثَلُهُ فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ لَيْسَ بِخَارِجٍ مِّنْهَا

"Is he who was dead and We gave him life and made for him a light by which to walk among the people, like one who is in darkness from which he cannot emerge?"

كَذَلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِلْكَافِرِينَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

Thus, what they were doing was made appealing to the disbelievers.

وَكَذَلِكَ جَعَلْنَا فِي كُلِّ قَرْيَةٍ أَكَابِرَ مُجْرِمِيهَا لِيَمْكُرُوا فِيهَا وَمَا يَمْكُرُونَ إِلَّا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ

"And thus We have made in every city its major criminals to conspire therein, but they do not conspire except against themselves, and they perceive not."

وإذا جاءتهم آية قالوا لن نؤمن حتى

"And when a miracle comes to them, they say, 'We will not believe until...'"

نؤتى مثل ما أوتي رسل الله

We are given as the messengers of God are given.

الله أعلم حيث يجعل رسالته

God knows where He places His message.

سيصيب الذين أجرموا صغار عند الله وعذاب شديد

The wrongdoers will suffer a minor punishment from God and a severe torment.

ومن يرد أن يضله يجعل صدره ضيقا حرجا كأنما يصعد في السماء

"And whoever wants to mislead him, he makes his breast tight and constricted as if he were climbing into the sky."

كذلك يجعل الله الرجس على الذين لا يؤمنون

Thus, Allah makes the wretchedness fall upon those who do not believe.

وهذا صراط ربك مستقيما

And this is the path of your Lord, straight.

قد فصلنا الآيات لقوم يذكرون

We have detailed the verses for a people who remember.

لهم دار السلام عند الله

For them is the House of Peace with Allah.

وهو وليهم بما كانوا يعملون

"And He is their protector because of what they used to do."

ويوم يحشرهم جميعا

"And the day when He will gather them all together."

يا معشر الجن قد استكثرتم من الإنس

"O gathering of jinn, you have increased your numbers among the humans."

وقال أولياؤهم من الإنس

And their guardians among humans said.

ربنا استمتع بعضا

Our Lord, let us enjoy some.

وبعضنا ببعض

And some of us with each other.

وبلغنا أجلنا الذي أجلت لنا

"And we have reached our appointed term that You had destined for us."

قال النار مسواكم خالدين فيها

He said, "The Fire is your abode, wherein you will remain forever."

إلا ما شاء الله

Except what Allah wills.

إن ربنا يحفظنا

Indeed, our Lord protects us.

ربك حكيم عليم

Your Lord is Wise and Knowing.

وكذلك نولي بعض الظالمين بعضا بما كانوا يكسبون

Thus, We assign some wrongdoers to others because of what they earned.

يا معشر الجن والإنس

O congregation of jinn and mankind.

ألم يأتكم رسل منكم يقصون عليكم آياتي

"Did messengers not come to you from among yourselves telling you of My signs?"

يقصون عليكم آياتي

They narrate to you My verses.

وينذرونكم لقاء يومكم هذا

"And they warn you of the meeting of this day of yours."

قالوا شهدنا على أنفسنا

They said, "We bear witness against ourselves."

وغرتهم الحياة الدنيا

The worldly life deceived them.

وشهدوا على أنفسهم

And they bore witness against themselves.

أنهم كانوا كافرين

That they were disbelievers.

ذلك أن لم يكن ربك مهلك القرى بظلم

That is because your Lord was not one to destroy the villages unjustly.

وأهلها غافلون

And its people are heedless.

ولكل درجات مما عملوا

"And for everyone are levels according to what they have done."

وما ربك منهم

"And your Lord is not unjust to the servants."

بغافل عما يعملون

Unaware of what they do.

وربك الغني ذو الرحمة

And your Lord is the Rich, the Merciful.

إن يشأ يذهبكم ويستخلف من بعدكم

If He wills, He can remove you and replace you with others after you.

ما يشاء كما أنشأكم

As He wills, just as He created you.

كما أنشأكم

As He created you.

من ذرية قوم آخرين

From the descendants of another people.

إنما توعدون لآت

What you are promised is certainly coming.

وما أنتم بمعجزين

"And you will not be able to escape."

قل يا قوم اعملوا على مكانتكم

Say, O my people, work according to your position.

إني أعلمكم

I inform you.

فسوف تعلمون من تكون له عاقبة الدار

"So you will know who will have the good outcome of the home."

إنه لا يفلح الظالمون

Certainly! The translation is: "Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed."

وجعلوا لله مما ذرأ من الحرس والأنعام نصيبا

"And they made for Allah from what He created of crops and livestock a share."

فقالوا هذا لله بزعمهم

They said, "This is for God," according to their claim.

وهذا لله بزعمهم

And this is for God, according to their claim.

وهذا لشركائنا

And this is for our partners.

فما كان لشركائهم

So it was not for their partners.

فلا يصل إلى الله

It does not reach God.

وما كان لله

And what is for God.

فهو يصل إلى شركائهم

He reaches out to his partners.

ساء ما يحكمون

Evil is what they judge.

وكذلك زين لكثير من المؤمنين

And likewise, it has been made appealing to many of the believers.

المشركين قتل أولادهم شركاؤهم

The polytheists killed their children for their partners.

ليردوهم

To bring them back.

وليلبسوا عليهم دينهم

"And let them wear their religion upon them."

ولو شاء الله ما فعلوه

And if Allah had wished, they would not have done it.

فذرهم وما يفترون

So leave them and what they fabricate.

وقالوا هذه أنعام

And they said, "These are livestock."

وحرث حجر لا يطعمها

"And he cultivated a stone that does not feed it."

إلا من نشاء بزعمهم

"Except for whom We will, according to their claim."

وأنعام حرمت ظهورها

"And animals whose backs are forbidden."

وأنعام لا يذكرون اسم الله عليها

"And livestock over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned."

فتراء عليه

"Accuse him falsely."

سيجزيهم بما كانوا يفترونه

He will reward them for what they used to fabricate.

وقالوا ما في بطون هذه الأنعام

And they said, "What is in the bellies of these animals?"

خالصة لذكورنا

Exclusive to our males.

ومحرم على أزواجنا

And it is forbidden for our wives.

وإن يكن ميتة

And if it is a dead thing.

فهم فيه شركاء

They have partners in it.

سيجزيهم وصفهم

Their description will reward them.

إنه حكيم

He is wise.

عليم

Knowledgeable

قد خسر الذين قتلوا أولادهم

Those who killed their children have lost.

سفها بغير علم

He acted foolishly without knowledge.

وحرموا

And they were forbidden.

ما رزقهم الله

What God has provided for them.

افتراء على الله

Slander against Allah.

قد ضلوا وما كانوا مهتدين

They have gone astray and were not guided.

وأحببوا الله

And love God.

والمسلمون

And the Muslims.

أصحاب الله

The companions of God.

مع الله

With God

وعلفهم

"And fed them."

ورحمهم

And have mercy on them.

وعلمهم

And He taught them.

وزنهم

Their weight

وعلمهم

And He taught them.

وهو الذي أنشأ جنات معروشات وغير معروشات

And He is the One who created gardens, trellised and untrellised.

والنخل والزرع مختلفا أكله

And the palm trees and crops have different tastes.

والزيتون والرمان متشابها وغير متشابه

Olives and pomegranates are similar and dissimilar.

من ثمره إذا أثمر وآتوا حقه يوم حصاده ولا تسرفوا إنه لا يحب المسرفين

"From its fruit, when it bears fruit, and give its due on the day of its harvest, and do not waste, for He does not like the wasteful."

ومن الأنعام حمولة وفرشا كلوا مما رزقكم الله ولا تتبعوا خطوات الشيطان إنه لكم عدو مبين

"And of the animals are (some for) burden and (some for) food. Eat of what Allah has provided for you, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a manifest enemy."

ثمانية أزواج

Eight pairs.

من الضأن ثمانية أزواج

From the sheep, there are eight pairs.

ومن المعز ثنين

And among the goats are two.

قل آذ ذكرين حرم أم الأنسين أم اشتملت عليه أرحام الأنسين

Say, "Are the two males for what is for the females, or are the females in the wombs of the females?"

نبئوني بعلم إن كنتم صادقين

"Inform me with knowledge if you are sincere."

ومن الإبل اثنين ومن البقر اثنين

"Two from the camels and two from the cows."

قل آذ ذكرين حرم أم الأنسين أم اشتملت عليه أرحام الأنسين

Say, "Are the male [children] for the male and the female for the female? Or are what the wombs of the female contain other than that?"

أم كنتم شهدان

"Or were you witnesses?"

وما أئذ وصاكم الله بهذا

And what has God commanded you about this?

فمن أظلم ممن افترى على الله كذبا ليضل الناس بغير علم

So who is more unjust than one who fabricates a lie against Allah to mislead people without knowledge?

إن الله لا يهدي القوم الظالمين

Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

قل لا أجد فيما أردت

Say, "I do not find in what I wanted."

وما أوحي إلي محرما على طاعم يطعمه

"And what has been revealed to me is that no one should eat anything that is forbidden to them."

إلا أن يكون ميتة أو دما مسفوحا أو لحم خنزير

Except if it is carrion, blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine.

فإنه رجس أو فسقا أهل لغير الله بإذنه

"For it is an abomination or a sinful act dedicated to other than Allah by His permission."

فمن اضطر وغير باغ ولا عاد

"Whoever is forced [to eat or drink] while he is not intending to disobedience or transgression..."

فإن ربك غفور رحيم

Indeed, your Lord is Forgiving and Merciful.

وعلى الذين هادوا حرمنا كل ذي ظفر

"And upon those who became Jews, We prohibited every animal with claws."

ومن البقر والغنم حرمنا عليهم شحومهما

"And from the cattle and the sheep, We prohibited upon them their fat."

إلا ما حملت ظهورهما

"Except what their backs carry."

إلا ما حملت ظهورهما أو الحوايا أو ما اختل طبعا

Except for what is carried by their backs or the bellies, or what is naturally unbalanced.

ذلك جزيناهم ببغيهم وإنا لصادقون

Thus We recompensed them for their transgression, and indeed We are truthful.

فإن كذبوك فقل ربكم ذو رحمة ورحمة

"If they deny you, say: 'Your Lord is the Possessor of mercy and a merciful.'"

واسعة ولا يرد بأسه عن القوم المجرمين

"Wide and does not repel the blow from the criminal people."

سيقول الذين أشركوا لو شاء الله ما أشركنا

Those who associate others with Allah will say, "If Allah had willed, we would not have associated anything (with Him)."

ولا آباؤنا ولا حرمنا من شيء

Neither our fathers nor did we deprive ourselves of anything.

كذلك كذب الذين من قبلهم حتى ذاقوا بأسنا

Likewise, those before them denied until they tasted Our might.

قل هل عندكم من علم فتخرجوه لنا

Say, "Do you have any knowledge that you can bring out for us?"

إن تتبعون إلا الظن وإن أنتم إلا تخرصون

"You follow nothing but assumption, and you are only guessing."

قل فلنفعلون

Say, "Then let us do it."

إلا لله الحجة البالغة

"Except for God is the conclusive argument."

فلو شاء لهداكم أجمعين

"If He had willed, He would have guided you all."

قل هلما شهداءكم الذين يشهدون أن الله حرم هذا

Say, "Bring forth your witnesses who will testify that Allah has prohibited this."

فإن شهدوا فلا تشهد معهم

"If they witness, do not witness with them."

ولا تشهدوا معهم

And do not witness with them.

فتتبع أهواء الذين كذبوا بآياتنا

So follow the desires of those who denied our signs.

والذين لا يؤمنون بالآخرة

And those who do not believe in the Hereafter.

وهم بربهم يعدلون

And they associate partners with their Lord.

قل تعالوا أتل ما حرم ربكم عليكم

Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you."

ألا تشركوا به شيئا

Do not associate anything with Him.

وبالوالدين إحسانا

And be good to parents.

ولا تقتلوا أولادكم من إملاق

And do not kill your children for fear of poverty.

نحن نرزقكم وإياهم

We provide sustenance for you and them.

ولا تقربوا الفواحش ما ظهر منها وما بطن

And do not approach immoralities, whether of them is apparent or concealed.

ولا تقتلوا النفس الليبين

And do not kill the Libyan souls.

التي حرم الله إلا بالحق

"Which Allah has prohibited except by right."

ذلكم وصاكم به لعلكم تعقلون

That is what He has commanded you so that you may understand.

ولا تقربوا مال اليتيم إلا بالتي هي أحسن

And do not approach the property of the orphan except in a way that is best.

حتى يبلغ أشده

Until he reaches maturity.

وأوفوا الكيل والميزان بالقسط

"And give full measure and weight in justice."

لا نكلمكم

We do not speak to you.

لا نكلف نفسا إلا وسعها

We do not burden a soul beyond its capacity.

وإذا قلتم فاعدلوا

"And if you speak, be just."

ولو كان ذا قربا

"And if he were a relative."

وبعهد الله أوفوا

And fulfill your covenant with Allah.

ذلكم وصاكم به لعلكم تذكرون

That is what He has enjoined upon you so that you may remember.

وأن هذا صراطي مستقيما

And indeed, this is My straight path.

فاتبعون

So follow me.

فاتبعوه ولا تتبعوا السبل

So follow him and do not follow the paths.

فتفرق بكم عن سبيله

"So you have strayed from His path."

ذلكم وصاكم به لعلكم تتقون

That is what He has enjoined upon you so that you may become righteous.

ثم آتينا موسى الكتاب تماما

Then We gave Moses the Book completely.

على الذي أحسن وتفصيلا

To the one who has done good and in detail.

للمؤمنين

For the believers

وتفصيلا لكل شيء وهدى ورحمة

"And in detail for everything, and guidance and mercy."

لعلهم بلقاء ربهم يؤمنون

Perhaps they will believe in the meeting with their Lord.

وهذا كتاب أنزلناه مبارك

"And this is a Book We have sent down, blessed."

فاتبعوه واتقوا لعلكم تتقون

"So follow him and be conscious of Allah that you may be shown mercy."

ترحمون

Have mercy.

أن تقولوا

That you say.

إنما أنزل الكتاب على طائفتين من قبلنا

"The Book was only revealed to two groups before us."

وإن كنا عن دراستهم لغافلين

And even if we are oblivious to their studies.

أو تقولوا

Or you say

أنا أنزل علينا الكتاب

I am sending down to us the book.

لكنا أهدى منهم

But we are more guided than them.

فقد جاءكم بينة من ربكم وهدى ورحمة

Indeed, there has come to you a clear proof from your Lord and guidance and mercy.

فمن أظلم ممن كذب بآيات الله

Who is more unjust than one who lies about the signs of Allah?

وصدف عنها

"And he turned away from her."

سنجزي الذين يصدفون

We will reward those who turn away.

عن آياتنا سوء العذاب

"About Our signs, the evil punishment."

بما كانوا يصدفون

For what they were turning away.

هل ينظرون إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة

"Are they waiting for the angels to come to them?"

أو يأتي ربك

Or your Lord comes.

أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك

Or some signs of your Lord come.

يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك

The day the signs of your Lord come.

لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها

No soul's faith will be of any benefit.

لم تكن آمنت من قبل

She had not believed before.

أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا

Or she gained good in her faith.

قل انتظروا

Say "wait".

إما منتظروا

Either waiters.

إن الذين فرقوا دينهم

"Indeed, those who have divided their religion..."

وكانوا شيعا لست منهم في شيء

"And they were divided into sects; you are not among them in anything."

إنما أمرهم إلى الله

Their matter is only up to God.

ثم ينبئهم بما كانوا يفعلون

Then He will inform them of what they used to do.

من جاء بالحسنة

Whoever brings a good deed.

فله عشر أنفالها

He has ten of its spoils.

ومن جاء بالسيئة

And whosoever brings an evil deed.

فلا يجزى إلا مثلها

It will only be compensated with something similar.

وهم لا يظلمون

And they will not be wronged.

قل إنني هداني ربي

Say, "Indeed, my Lord has guided me."

ومن جاء بالحسنة

And whoever brings a good deed

إلى صراط مستقيم

To a straight path

دينا قيما

Dina is valuable.

ملة إبراهيم حنيفا

The religion of Abraham, a monotheist.

وما كان من المشركين

"And he was not one of the polytheists."

قل إن صلاتي ونسكي

Say: "Indeed, my prayer and my rites of sacrifice..."

ومحياي ومماتي لله رب العالمين

"And my life and my death are for Allah, Lord of the worlds."

لا شريك له

He has no partner.

وبذلك أمرت وأنا أول المسلمين

"And thus I commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims."

قل أغير الله أبغي ربا

Say, "Shall I seek a lord other than Allah?"

وهو رب كل شيء

And He is the Lord of all things.

ولا تكسب كل نفس إلا عليها

"And no soul earns except by that [good] which is in its favor."

ولا تزر وازرة

No soul burdened shall bear the burden of another.

ثم إلى ربكم مرجعكم

Then to your Lord will be your return.

فينبئكم بما كنتم فيه تختلفون

"Then He will tell you about that in which you used to differ."

وهو الذي جعلكم خلائف الأرض

And He it is who made you successors upon the earth.

ورفع بعضكم فوق بعض درجات

And He raised some of you above others in degrees.

ليبلوكم

"To test you."

ليبلوكم فيما آتاكم

"To test you in what He has given you."

إن ربك سريع العقاب

Indeed, your Lord is swift in punishment.

وإنه لغفور رحيم

And indeed, He is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
