也是港大创校以来最大规模的扩建工程

落成之后将会为港大提供多近四成的教学面积

After completion, it will provide nearly 40% of the teaching area for the University of Hong Kong.

港大地小,不可能在现有校园扩建

Hong Kong University is small and cannot expand the existing campus.

于是他们看中了位于校园西面属于水务处的用地

So they targeted the land owned by the Water Authority located to the west of the campus.

当我们开始的时候,我们的原则是想要一个联合的校园

When we started, our principle was to want a united campus.

而不是一个在这里的校园,而是一个在拉玛的校园

It is not a campus here, but a campus in Rama.

我们在这个地区有100年的水质供应部

We have a 100-year water quality supply department in this area.

我们能够把这个地区建在我们现有的校园附近

We can build this area near our existing campus.

这块地原先有两个咸水库

This area originally had two saltwater reservoirs.

腾空出来的地方就可以发展新的水库

将水库放在山洞的做法,是香港第一次

The practice of placing a reservoir in a cave is a first for Hong Kong.

利用山洞去摆水墓设施,其实我们有一定的地质风险

Using caves to set up water burial facilities actually carries certain geological risks.

如果土质太复杂,或者风松软的时候

If the soil is too complicated or the wind is soft.

就有倒塌的可能,亦增加施工危险性

There is a possibility of collapse, which increases the danger of construction.

但如果土质是过硬的,很坚硬的石头

But if the soil is too hard, it is very hard stone.

亦妨碍施工进度

It also hinders the construction progress.

所以我们必须准确去估计到
