这里原本是日本人学校

This used to be a Japanese school.

后来成为台北市政府办公厅

Later became the Taipei City Government Office.

十年前改建成为艺术馆

Converted into an art museum ten years ago.

它本身是一个旧的学校

It is an old school itself.

其实它本来很平凡

In fact, it was originally very ordinary.

只不过是走廊学校的一个班房

It's just a classroom in a corridor school.

它也可以有这样很灵活的做法

It can also have such a flexible approach.

而且一间这样的建筑

Moreover, such a building

红砖的旧建筑

Old brick building.

它也可以做到当代的东西

It can also achieve contemporary things.

所以我觉得

So I think.

我们要有的东西

The things we need to have.

就不是建一些很光鲜

It's just not about building something very flashy.

很漂亮的东西

Very beautiful thing.

而是一个很基本的一个学

It is a very basic subject.

之后我们慢慢地学习

慢慢再考虑在里面搞些什么

台北当代馆都不是太着重收集馆藏

我觉得这方面有趣的是说

反抗运动获因也是政府

The resistance movement is also due to the government.

起来反抗的人是一般市民

The people who rise up in resistance are ordinary citizens.

政府握有公权力

The government holds public power.

虽然这个展场是政府的

Although this exhibition venue is owned by the government.

可是其实是必须要开放的

But it actually needs to be open.

我觉得这样

I feel this way.

至少在这一点

At least in this regard.

现在艺术馆是有做到这样子的可能性

Now the art museum has the possibility of achieving this.

艺术其实不应该是只有某些人可以诠释

Art should not be something that only certain people can interpret.

它必须要开放给一般的人

It must be open to the general public.

包括不管你是政府的对立面

Including regardless of whether you are the opposition to the government.

或者同样面

Or the same face.

都应该可以用这样子的媒介

It should all be possible to use this kind of medium.

让更多人可以感受

Allow more people to experience.

但是当然这个是艺术馆本身

But of course, this is the art museum itself.

很不容易的突破

A hard-won breakthrough.

相信他们也背负很大的压力

I believe they also carry a lot of pressure.

因为当代艺术基本上不是完全是

我们怎么去扩阔艺术的定义呢

How can we broaden the definition of art?

令到这个艺术

是跟我们市民的生活紧密相扣

用传统的国画的材料

Using traditional Chinese painting materials.

但是現代當代的題材就以人物為主

我自己很喜歡傳統的中國藝術

I personally really like traditional Chinese art.

所以最後才會去畫工筆

So in the end, I chose to paint in the meticulous style.

其中一個原因就是

Actually, I have many opportunities in Hong Kong as well.

可以看到傳統的中國藝術

我們有很多那些資源

We have a lot of those resources.

只不過在我們的文化

看不到一種好的方法

將這些東西去教育給大眾

So it is exhibited in the art museum.

博物館就是一個有效的平台

參與了其中一份子

我是有些感覺的

I have some feelings.

我的路就是

My path is.

因為我在這裡看那些東西

Because I am looking at those things here.

我是喜歡中國文化

I like Chinese culture.

中國的傳統藝術

Traditional Chinese art

我覺得它有很多一些

I think it has a lot of some.

元素可以活化它

Elements can activate it.

即是活化

That is activation.

我過去十幾年的創作

My creations over the past decade or so.

就是將傳統的工筆畫活化它

It is about bringing traditional meticulous painting to life.

令到多些不同的人

To make more diverse people.

有興趣來看 去了解

Interested in coming to see and understand.

我自己的創作就是在做這件事

My own creation is about doing this.

當我那些作品

When I have those works.

回到這裡展示的時候

When returning to display here

我覺得又被那個氣氛

I feel like I've been swept up in that atmosphere again.

令到它好像很僵化

Causing it to seem very rigid.

我做創作的

I do creative work.

跟藝術館去工作

Work with the art museum.

它是有某部分是分歧的

There are certain parts that are divergent.

譬如說藝術館

For example, an art museum.

它很重要的部分就是

An important part of it is

要向公眾展示

To show to the public

或者介紹

Or introduce.

它要做收藏

It wants to make a collection.

它要做記錄

It needs to make a record.

它要做研究的

It will conduct research.

即是那個部分是

That part is.

關於比較歷史性一點的

Regarding something more historically comparative.

我們做創作就沒有了

When we create, there is nothing left.

永遠都是向前走的

Always moving forward.

但在世界上其實很多美術館

But in the world, there are actually many art museums.

即使是一些綜合的美術館

Even some comprehensive art museums.

它需要有一種新的活力

It needs to have a new vitality.

譬如說它做展覽

For example, it holds exhibitions.

同樣的題材已經做過了

The same theme has already been done.

你再做的時候希望

I hope you do it again.

可以有些新意

It can have some novelty.

吸引一些觀眾

Attract some audience.

或者給一些

Or give some.

已經看開這一類的觀眾

Already open-minded towards this type of audience.

有些新的感覺

Some new feelings.

那你在形式策劃上面

Then what about your planning in terms of form?

是要有些新意才行

It needs to have some new ideas.

即是在藝術館以外的香港

It is Hong Kong outside of the art museum.

藝術圈裡面的活力

The vitality within the art circle.

其實有太多對比

In fact, there are too many comparisons.

原則上這裡是最多資源

In principle, this place has the most resources.

它也原則上是最好的平台

It is also, in principle, the best platform.

因為它可以容納到最多人來看

Because it can accommodate the most people to come and see.

但是那些活力是在外面
