Here is a letter from a Mr. Wei.

This person is actually the junior弟弟 of the two guests from last time.

They are all studying in the architecture department at the University of California, Berkeley.

Mr. Wei said so.

He said, "Hi Lawrence, I listened to this episode about architecture."

Many problems are empathetic.

What is particularly moving is that the program compares UI design with the history of architectural development.

For example, it mentioned the inspiration that architectural development brings to UI design.

Architectural passage

The development from the Renaissance to Modernism and then to Postmodernism.

As of today, there is actually a clear differentiation.

Two extreme types.

One is the complex surfaces of Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry.

Primitive Architecture

Another important retrospection is Primitive Architecture represented by Saw Fujimoto.

He imagines humans living in trees like birds.

Pursuing a reconnection with nature and human instincts.

I believe this is related to what Steve Jobs referred to.

The primitive instincts of humans and the rhetoric of interacting with mobile phones are quite similar.

As for the later mention of the evolution of production space

Causing the loss of monumentality or fixity in architectural spaces.

Many predecessors have actually been working hard on this in architecture.

Especially the situationist movement from the late 1950s to the early 1970s.

也就是Situationist

That is to say, Situationist.

He also has his own influence in the architecture industry.

New Babylon

Whether it's Constant Nubis's New Babylon

View Spatiale

Or it could be the View Spatiale proposed by Jonah Friedman.

That is the French term "Special City" referring to a space city.

Super Studio

And the Super Studio they influenced.

The monumental structure attempting to bring back commemoration.

In fact, it is a direct response to this type of question.

The modular construction you and the guests mentioned.

I do not believe this is the trend for future development.

The issue is as the guests mentioned.

In fact, the biggest issue is not the individual's demand for personal insignia.

The problem, as the guests mentioned, is that the biggest issue is not the individual’s iconic needs towards others.

This is due to the significant restrictions that standardized spaces impose on daily life.

It is the square that exists first, and then life is designed around it.

Still living in the design space.

This misalignment leads to very low usability.

Noise Space Block

For example, Pioneer and Noise Space Block.

The current cost is just an example.

But there are still many architects at present.

Even well-known architects are striving for this.

For example, it's just near my residence.

Designed by Berkeley professor Stanley Saitowitz.

Garden Village

Garden Village

Currently under construction.

If you're lucky, you can see the huge crane stacking the modular boxes.

As for the storage of containers for low-income groups.

Oakland

The inexpensive container homes in Oakland are the best example.

As for the use of virtual reality.

The most direct application right now should be allowing customers to buy houses from home.

Halsted Property

Many property companies in the U.S., such as Halsted Property.

Achieved in Manhattan and Florida.

这位

This person

听众

Audience

Many examples of this building have been mentioned.

He also provided the link.

We will put all these links on this issue's website.

Please go and check.

There is another friend whose last name is Cao.

He also provided feedback to us via email.

Because we mentioned the Chinese architect Lin Ying in the last issue.

He did that at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Then Mr. Cao wrote feedback regarding this point.

He talked about the Vietnam War Memorial.

In Issue 194 of IT Commentary

How to continue playing PS4 while camping?

You discussed the Vietnam War Memorial.

I think there are many things worth adding.

My personal feeling.

The greatest shock he gives to people lies in

He unfolds in chronological order.

The names of the people on the monument are arranged in the order of their sacrifice.

A few people by the monument at the very beginning.

On the wall that is taller than a person later on.

Dense population

Think again about the people behind these.

They are all vibrant worlds, one by one.

生命

Life

The brutality of war.

It seems just like being in front of me.

It feels as if I can see the Vietnam War from its beginning to its peak, with fierce fighting.

Young lives are constantly being torn apart in the machinery of war.

Through this monument

It seems possible to see the beginning and development of the war.

I think Mr. Cao's experience is...

It actually illustrates the problem quite well.

Just like we mentioned in our last episode.

This monument is very different from the usual type of monument.

It's just that he is not.

Everyone may imagine one.

Speaking of monuments.

Everyone imagines it is vertical.

Something that stands up.

But this Lin Ying's Vietnam War memorial

He completely appears to be low-key on the outside.

Moreover, it can even be said to be a very inconspicuous form.

You can go to this specific place.

If you haven't heard of it.

You can go listen to one hundred forty-nine.

IT Theory Issue 194

But simply put, it's a wall lying on the ground with many names printed on it.

This can allow Mr. Cao to have such rich experiences.

It can be seen that this building actually possesses quite profound skill.

在背后

Behind.

of

好的

Okay.

Then let's start today's program.

Today there is a new guest.

Introduce yourself.

Hello everyone!

I am Luo Yiwen.

I used to work at Amazon in Seattle.

The team I work for is the Kindle team.

So I have done a lot in the past few years.

Kindle clients on different platforms.

I am very happy to be here today for the IT discussion.

Luo Yiwen and I have a lot of fate together.

We were all born in Wuhan.

Then they were all very young.

When it basically still belongs to a state of being a lump of flesh.

Then went to Shenzhen.

Then we all grew up in Shenzhen.

But the trajectory of life later became quite different.

But now both of them are in the Bay Area at the same time again.

What are you doing now?

I am currently working at Google.

I am still a programmer.

Then the product I made is called inbox.

就是

That's it.

A product under the Gmail team of Gmail.

Yes.

I think many people might be envious of you.

Because the two products you made are both of that kind.

You know, right?

It is a product that directly interacts with users.

Just you running out to tell others.

You say wow.

是吧

Is that so?

It will be known.

And it's very likely that they are using your product.

对啊

Yeah.

The products I create mainly focus on the front end.

So I am also very lucky.

Can create products with a larger user base.

Hmm.

所以

So

Uh

Very lucky.

It's obvious that we are looking for this.

Everyone should be more experienced if our old listeners are around.

就是

That's it.

If a person is currently using Google Inbox.

Then it is obvious that he cannot talk about Google Inbox.

That article used to be about Kindle.

It is obvious that our topic today will be related to e-books.

Uh

It is like this.

We feel that we have actually discussed many topics about e-books in the IT strategy.

Many people might also know that I previously worked at ByteDance, focusing on things related to e-books.

Uh

I have also been paying close attention to some developments in this field.

Uh

But sometimes there will be such a situation.

That's how it is when looking for many writers as well.

You might think that a topic has definitely been overwritten.

对吧

Right?

Do you want e-books since the end of 2007 from Kindle?

Uh.

It started with the launch of the first-generation Kindle e-reader.

If we consider 2007 as the beginning of this new generation of e-book revolution, then...

That was also a long time ago.

对吧

Right?

Uh-huh.

It has already been almost ten years.

十年了

Ten years.

Correct.

So everyone will feel that...

It's quite normal for many people to buy e-books now.

Unlike five or six years ago when we would discuss it with everyone,

Oh dear.

Which store should I go to buy this?

对吧

Right?

Many people may have already purchased a lot of books on their favorite platforms.

It has already been bound to a platform.

This has already become a matter.

Everyone knows how to do it.

No need for others to teach.

There's no need to hesitate too much about it.

But actually, I guess.

Many people are curious about how an e-book is created.

Actually, I don't really understand.

This process is actually very complex.

It can be said that...

Uh.

He does not belong to that kind.

For example, it's a very difficult math problem.

Or very profound physics.

This research question

It's not that kind of thing.

But his whole process

In fact, it can be said to be quite complicated.

Involved different types of work.

Uh.

Different skills

It also involves various kinds of institutions.

For example, a publishing house is a type of institution.

对吧

Right?

Technology companies are a type of institution.

Uh

Writer's economy

Things like this, right?

So today we invited Luo Yiwen to be on the show.

Let's go together with him and us.

Let's analyze it together.

How is this electronic book actually made?

So let's get started directly.

那个

That one.

Where should we start?

If it is you

Because today we actually have a division of labor.

Luo Yiwen is a programmer.

So he for him, he for this.

E-book software

For example, we use a Kindle.

或者像ibooks

Or like iBooks.

Uh

Such things as these.

He will be very familiar.

What about my words?

我可能

I might.

Mainly talks about

The part further ahead.

Once a book is written and published.

In what manner should he deliver it?

Uh.

出版社

Publishing house

Then, in what way did the publisher...

Deliver it to something like Kindle.

Companies like iBooks

Correct.

So, uh...

Luo Yiwen, I don't know what you think about this.

I am the latter part of what I just said.

Are you familiar with it?

Uh

Are you talking about this part of the delivery?

还是

still

Hmm.

My understanding mainly lies in us.

Uh, for example, like Kindle.

He will provide a variety of tools for publishers or authors to directly upload an eBook file to us.

Then we will convert it into a format that can be used on Kindle in our own way.

Then, uh.

Then present it to our users through the Kindle e-reader or through apps.

I have a slight understanding of this part.

ok

Okay

So everyone just listened to what Luo Yiwen said.

This description should actually have a little bit of concept.

Actually, it is divided into several parts here.

One part is the software for the e-book that we ultimately use.

比如kindle

For example, Kindle.

That app.

The app we downloaded from the App Store below.

Uh

Or it could include buying a hardware Kindle.

Then inside that, he has a single function, right?

He is not like that tablet and smartphone, which can do many things.

He only uses it to read e-books.

There is still software inside.

对吧

Right?

This is one part, and another part is that the essence of the book is essentially just a text file.

But his format might be

For example, the text files that everyone is familiar with may be in Word format.

Formats like .doc

Uh

I believe that everyone has probably downloaded pirated e-books to some extent.

A common format for pirated e-books is PDF.

对吧

Right?

So when an average person thinks of a book,

When you first think of an ebook.

He first thought that the file format was PDF.

But uh

In fact, each different e-book reading software.

He has his own format.

Although this format is fundamentally unified at the bottom layer.

For example, unify into epub.

mobi啊这些

Mobi and these.

但是

But

Uh

For example, the formats used by iBooks and Kindle are somewhat customized in their own ways.

所以

So

Uh

Luo Yiguang, why don't you introduce what format is used for something like this Kindle?

呃kindle的话

Uh, regarding Kindle...

Uh

If you look at the format of Kindle eBooks in the early days,

You might see that he is an ACW file.

Uh

Of course!

The Kindle reading device is an early type of e-ink electronic reader.

He can open the PDF.

The card can also open txt files.

Hmm.

Well, now because the content we provide will be increasing more and more.

For example, the comics, magazines, and textbooks that we are currently offering.

We will add some richer elements on top of the original format.

Then a new format is generated.

You just mentioned that you will provide a tool for creating electronic book files to publishers, right?

Uh, I actually saw one before.

A few years ago, I read a document.

It is not a tool.

It is a Word document.

Then it describes that

Uh, for example, after you finish writing a novel...

What kind of method should you use to create a file prepared for Kindle?

I don't know which rule you are referring to with the tool you mentioned.

What about that guideline?

Or is there now a software-like tool for creating Kindle eBooks?

Uh, there are many kinds.

I don't understand very specifically.

But when I was working there

Uh, what I understand is that first, uh, Kindle also has its own Kindle Direct Publishing platform.

We simply call it KDP, which collaborates directly with many authors.

Then provide them with a platform and tools to upload their own e-books.

There are also many transcoding tools available.

When I say transcoding, I mean format conversion.

For example, the publisher will provide you with an ePub format.

Then you can use a software or tool to convert it into a format that is compatible with Kindle.

Yes.

In fact, the term "transcoding" is somewhat strange.

Because the concept of transcoding might lead people to wonder what it is.

For example, these codes like UTF-8 and GB2312.

But he is actually about format conversion, right?

Later, I think saying "convert the format" is a more accurate way to put it.

What I mean is that everyone can consider that I believe most authors probably submit their manuscripts using Word, right?

Then you gave this Word file to the publisher.

Then the publisher, for now at least, rarely produces books that are only available as e-books without also releasing a print version.

If the publisher wants to release a paperback, what should be done?

He might want to put this document into InDesign, right?

InDesign is a typesetting software released by Adobe.

Then, sometimes, it ends up that the manuscript has to be proofread.

This proofreading process may be conducted on paper.

After he has finalized the initial layout, print it out.

Then, proofreading on paper is particularly important, especially for some publishers with a long history.

Now many coaching teams are definitely still using pen and paper for their work.

He writes one by one on the paper.

List out the typo.

Then the person ultimately responsible for the motherboard is likely the designer.

He sat in front of the computer and corrected the typo in that InDesign file.

Then this actually created a situation here.

This is the final version that supposedly has no typos.

He does not have a pure text file.

He only exists in that InDesign.

This is how a publisher behaves well.

He might try to find a way to export another copy of the document.

Or export a txt file or anything will do.

Then he might have a dedicated directory for storing these files, right?

Uh

But I believe that these practices and methods do not have standards.

There isn't really an institution to dictate that, oh.

You are adapting to the requirements of this electronic publishing.

So how should our entire workflow be structured?

Even if there is such an organization.

There are such regulations.

Most publishers may not necessarily follow this either.

So it has created a situation where...

Hmm.

一本书

A book

The most original version of him that has no mistakes.

His format is likely unknown.

Then at this moment, for example, if Kindle makes such a request.

You should convert this document of yours into an azw format like you mentioned before.

Or say mobi or what.

Uh

The situation here is really, really complicated.

I think that because many times publishers may have to deal with more than just Amazon.

He might also want to be on iBooks.

That iBooks is officially supported.

The document he primarily supports.

The file format is epub.

Uh

In terms of the horizon, EPUB may be relevant at the moment.

He should belong to the number one eBook format.

He is the most mainstream.

He is more mainstream than mobi.

Then azw is Kindle's own proprietary format.

That's another story.

So it is likely that I suspect many special setups.

He might be using that InDesign for layout design.

He may also release an epub version at the same time.

Ready, right?

Yes.

This might lead to what you just mentioned, that the publishing company will give you an epub.

Then you still have to go through a transcoding process, which is the format conversion.

Convert the epub into the format you need.

对吧

Right?

对的

That's right.

Uh

It was mentioned earlier that we may need the author to upload the azw format.

I'm actually not very sure about this part.

Uh

I think it might be more of a situation where I am guessing myself.

More often it will be uh.

An author himself or an author.

A publishing house

He provides an epub version.

Then hand it over to iBooks or to Kindle.

Then we kindle.

Or there might be other tools within iBooks.

Turn it into the corresponding one.

The formats we can each support.

对呃

Uh, sure.

But the problem is that you want a book with hundreds of thousands of words.

Then this kind of automatic conversion is actually very unsettling.

Do you know?

If this author is a relatively tech-savvy author, then...

He would be very if it were me.

I will be very worried about whether any issues will arise during the process of transcoding and format conversion.

Uh

But on the other hand

In fact, the vast majority of authors do not think about these matters.

What he said is that I have submitted my copy of the Word document to the publisher.

Then my responsibility ends here.

My work is done.

That's fine for the rest.

The contract between you and me stipulates that my digital rights are also granted to you.

Gave it to the publisher, right?

The publisher will help you with Kindle.

Released on various platforms like iBooks.

So how did my Word document ultimately turn into an EPUB format prepared for iBooks?

Then prepare the azw format for Kindle.

These matters have nothing to do with me.

Then, during these times.

Publishers often find another intermediary.

There are many companies in China that specialize in this kind of data processing.

Uh

Including Kindle, it also cooperates with such companies in China.

Of course, these companies in China also serve another function.

It's just to help you obtain the book number for the e-book.

This matter is a unique requirement specific to China.

But even without the restriction of a book number.

Many times he needs a company to help him with this transcoding work.

Because, to be honest, the original text you received might be quite bizarre.

There are many inside.

You need to clean up the dirty places.

So these matters involve a lot of complexities.

Moreover, it is a manual job that does not require much technical skill.

Um.

那ok

That's okay.

Let's assume that all this work has been completed now.

Whether it's done by the author themselves.

Done by the publisher.

It's still better to have this type of data processing done by a company.

A Word document has become very clean.

A very perfect azw format.

A Kindle format

So what are you going to do next?

Uh

The following words.

We will need to take it.

Because we need to create a very exquisite document for him.

Provide him with all the users we have.

Then we need to put it on our server first.

At the same time as it is uploaded to the server

We need to go through encryption and compression.

Then after some special processing.

Change it back to the original format.

Originally, this azw format has been transformed into a format suitable for easy transmission.

Hmm.

Yes.

Sigh.

Wait a moment.

What do you mean by "this can facilitate transmission"?

Uh.

For example, let's say you have encryption on your network side.

Because we know that all e-books are downloaded when

They are all downloaded from the Internet.

Uh.

Of course, in the early days you could download it online.

Then transfer it to your Kindle or e-book.

Inside the e-reader

But now you usually download it through the internet.

That

Then I still want to clarify something.

The two types you just mentioned in your phrasing.

Some people may not understand it very well.

The translation says:

One way is to download it onto your computer.

Then, for example, transfer it to your software through a USB cable.

对吧

Right?

Yes.

There is also a way where you directly do it on your mobile device.

Or you can directly connect to the internet to download on the e-ink reader.

Correct.

He is talking about the difference between these two.

Yes.

Because in the early days

Uh

Actually, sometimes now on some e-readers...

Things that can still be done.

This is what we call silode.

For example, you download a file called txt from the internet.

Or add a PDF.

Then you can connect.

You connect your reader via a USB cable.

Then drag it into a folder in your reader.

Then you can see the contents of this file on your reader.

In the early days, many pirated e-books were spread like this.

This question is actually quite an important one.

对吧

Right?

Because this issue of siloding is actually related to power.

对吧

Right?

Especially in China, I believe it is people of our generation, like you and me.

We are all used to playing on the computer since we were kids.

Siloding should belong to the default.

It should be the default state.

对吧

Right?

A very normal situation.

There will also be a lot in the United States.

Yes, it is hard for you to imagine that I bought a device.

Then I have no way to do it in some way.

Transfer the existing files from my computer to this device.

This whole thing.

The philosophy of using computers is actually quite different from what Jobs advocated.

对吧

Right?

Jobs believed that these things should be made as simple as possible.

Even if at the beginning you think this iPhone actually won't be available until many years later.

For example, you can update iOS without connecting to a computer.

对吧

Right?

In the early years, it was necessary to connect to the computer, right?

But you can see it was in Apple's imagination from the very beginning.

This is the proper state that it should be in.

Yes.

What you refer to as "siloding" is transferring something from a computer to a mobile device.

对吧

Right?

It is a situation that is done out of necessity.

So there is a philosophical difference regarding the use of computers here.

So you continue to say that there are these two kinds of download differences.

Then you mentioned that this is because of encryption.

So you need to ensure that the download can become smoother.

What does this specifically refer to?

Using encryption can make downloads relatively secure.

For example, it is after all a document from the publisher.

Then the content from the publisher.

Then we know that almost all content on the internet

Almost all content from publishers is not something you can download at will.

You need to download it through the proper channels.

That requires a certain level of encryption.

Then, through some means, it can ensure safe transmission to the user.

Actually, this is just a part related to DRM.

Of course, I don't like DRM.

I believe most of our audience does not like DRM either.

但是

But

I must raise the issue if you stand at

Alan Kay

How to say that Alan Kay?

That computer pioneer has a famous quote.

He said you just need to change your perspective.

Just the action of changing perspective.

It is worth 75 IQ points.

Aren't people always talking about the differences in IQ?

He said you just need to change your perspective.

Your IQ has increased by 75 points.

Just say that if we look at it from the perspective of the publisher.

You can completely understand why they need DRM.

比如说

For example.

MIT Press

MIT Press is famous, right?

In addition to many good books on media technology and art.

They haven't gone up until now.

Anyway, it seems that Kindle doesn't have their books.

Then they made their own e-books.

And their e-books are completely outrageous.

They are PDF files.

Then he added a DRM-protected PDF file.

So he must use the Adobe Digital Editions software to open it.

Although that software is free.

Everyone can download it from Adobe's website.

But very few people use that software.

For example, the default PDF reader on Mac is Preview.

It's the software called Preview.

If you bought a PDF from the MIT Press website.

You can't open it with Preview.

I have a friend who recently...

This friend is still in the tech field.

He feels that the user experience is very poor.

I bought a book to download.

Why can't it be opened?

This is a very strange format.

You know that his file extension is not PDF, right?

So DRM will bring us such problems.

But just as Luo Yiwen mentioned earlier.

Books published by the publisher.

Copyrighted books

If you consider it from the perspective of a publisher.

You will be worried.

Because a publishing house is, after all, an organization.

It is also an office.

It is the issues that need to be considered in a traditional office.

You might need to consider.

For example, you might want to consider saying.

The book I published.

Due to insufficient efforts in DRM.

Was pirated by someone.

Will it affect my career path?

Will it affect my promotion?

I may be getting promoted soon.

But something went wrong with this.

对吧

Right?

This is all possible.

So let me provide you with the perspective from the publisher's side.

I think there might also be another aspect at the same time.

After all, the publisher is also a company.

It is also one that needs to rely on profits to survive.

And the person who supports a group of employees.

Including also the author.

So if an author

He spends over ten to twenty hours.

Or it could be ten to twenty months.

A product that is written out.

Write out a text.

一本书

A book

If he is spread for free.

The words that are freely and recklessly spread.

That is for the author.

In fact, it is also an unfair thing.

But the thing is, this question is like this.

就是说

That is to say.

This is a classic discussion that has lasted for years.

That is to say, what exactly is DRM?

Is there anything that makes piracy more difficult?

I think it's actually difficult for you to argue that it has.

You know, right?

Because right now, if you go look for those...

Bestselling books

Thinking Fast and Slow

For example, something like "Thinking, Fast and Slow."

像Jarrett Diamond

Like Jarrett Diamond.

Anyway, this kind of...

It's something that everyone can talk about.

Those in the United States.

For example, those books in non-fiction.

Books on the list

Basically, everything can be found.

Can find a pirated electronic version.

And it's not difficult at all.

You don't need to go to some suspicious-looking Russian website.

You don't need to go to that kind of website to download those BT torrent files.

You might just be searching in Google.

There may be a PDF on the first page.

对吧

Right?

So how did the PDF leak out?

Then many people might not know.

Sometimes it actually is just that.

For example, what the translator has produced.

For example, there is a book.

He wants to translate the Chinese version.

Then he will most likely provide the final version in InDesign.

He is likely to provide the final version in design.

The designed PDF is given to the Chinese translators.

Then he definitely needs to give it to the publisher first for the Chinese translator.

Sometimes it's actually published by this publisher.

There really are such situations.

Some people suggest borrowing and making photocopies from the library.

Then scan and upload.

These all exist.

So I think it's really hard to say.

E-book platform

After it added DRM.

To what extent has piracy been suppressed?

What do you think?

I think the role of DRM is

Increase the issue of piracy.

Increase the difficulty.

It means there is no way to use this.

The software method is a form of mass piracy.

There isn't an easy way to do it.

Let you freely pirate.

For example, if I share a txt file.

Then I might just treat it as an email attachment.

Can be sent to many, many, many people.

But because of DRM.

Then because of the special format.

It's just different publishers.

Or it could be the different formats of different e-book software.

It will create some difficulty regarding this matter.

Then it's not that easy to spread.

When this difficulty reaches a certain level

Users may choose to say.

Why put in so much effort to do this?

If I only need to spend.

If it's part of the price that I can afford.

Come do this.

So I have thoughts about DRM.

我不太

I don't really.

I don't have a very clear stance.

But I can understand the reason for its existence.

So here we can actually transition to

Kindle

This part is about the Kindle software itself.

I know this was the work you did at Amazon at that time.

Specifically, you are...

We know that Kindle has many versions.

Kindle

Kindle is a cross-platform product.

It not only has its own hardware.

它在PC Mac

It is on PC Mac.

还有Android

There is also Android.

There is software for it on iOS.

Then I don't know which specific one you are in charge of.

In my early days

Kindle

I first joined Kindle.

It was probably around 2011.

I have worked on the PC and Mac client for a few months.

The client for PC and Mac is in

It runs on PC and Mac.

It can now also be downloaded in China.

Then later I did this.

Before long, I transferred to...

Another new project.

Kindle for Windows 8

At that time it was called Kindle for Windows 8.

It's a client for Kindle on Win8.

The interesting thing at that time was

At that time, Windows 8 had not yet been released.

At the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012.

Windows 8 has not been released yet.

So at that time we were essentially a...

An early collaborator.

Regarding Microsoft's collaboration on this matter.

Then there is something very interesting here.

It was at that time when we collaborated with our team on that PM.

It's just the product manager.

是Ben Thompson

It's Ben Thompson.

It's the author of Stratechery now.

At that time, we had a lot of cooperation and交流.

I don’t know if Ben Thompson has listened to our program.

I sometimes chat with him privately on Twitter.

That exposed his identity.

What you just said is something I care about a little bit.

You initially mentioned what you call PC and Mac clients.

So at that time it was something cross-platform.

It's not written separately for Windows and Mac, right?

They have a lot of shared code.

But there are also many things that must be platform-based.

就是platform specific的

It's platform specific.

For example, because it was overall at that time.

PC Mac的软件

PC Mac software

Because it was still the era of Win7 and WinXP at that time.

App

Its PC App looks like a Windows App but resembles a Mac App.

In fact, there are still many commonalities.

Correct.

So we have a lot of shared code.

Then there are also many features that are very specific to Windows.

There are also some features that are very specific to Mac.

Then you said you switched to the Win8 team.

Then your previous account seems to imply that...

Windows 8 is a significant rewrite.

Even completely rewriting it like this.

The Win8 product was different from PC and Mac at that time.

Because the Win8 platform was released at that time.

Metro UI

They are more inclined towards Metro UI.

I don't know what Chinese is called now.

You mentioned Metro, so our audience should know.

Yes, at that time, the main focus was on a Metro UI that was full-screen.

Native App

Then we developed a Win8 native app at that time.

But our implementation is a hybrid one.

When I mention Native App and Hybrid App, it might be a bit confusing.

Specifically, we were talking about the bookshelf library part at that time.

Native Code

We are writing Native Code.

Then in this part where the actual content of the book is presented.

We are using a WebView to implement its functionality.

OK

OK

I think displaying book content in a WebView is actually a

It is the choice of many people.

We'll talk about this later.

Mac

Then the three you mentioned earlier are on PC and Mac.

And later these versions of Win8.

I believe its user base is only a small fraction of the total Kindle user base.

I cannot know the specific number of parts.

However, because we are on all platforms.

Kindle Cross Platform

Then the large group I am in is called Kindle Cross Platform.

Kindle

Kindle cross-platform group

So later I switched to

There is such a group.

We later switched to...

I later switched to other products.

Then, because we are using WebView on Win8.

Native

Then it was used with Native.

At that time, Microsoft offered a JavaScript platform.

So I transferred to the Web team.

Kindle Cloud Reader

Then, the next step was to create the Kindle Cloud Reader.

Two products: Kindle Instant Preview.

OK

OK

This is very avant-garde.

Cloud Reader

Let's talk about Cloud Reader now.

Everyone might know everything.

Kindle actually has a web version.

它的网址是read.amazon.com

Its website is read.amazon.com.

All the Kindle books you have purchased.

You can see it all there.

That means you only need one.

Modern web standards-compliant browsers

You can read your Kindle books normally.

对吧

Right?

Anywhere.

This product is actually not available yet.

No support for Chinese accounts.

This behind.

This does not yet support Chinese accounts.

But it has many, many reasons.

Web App

It is a web app.

It supports various modern browsers.

Web App

It is a web app.

It supports various modern browsers.

Just like you said.

比如像Chrome Firefox Safari

For example, like Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

Then versions above IE10

Correct.

Then it is also on the iPad.

Can be opened in Safari and Chrome.

Yes.

我看了

I saw it.

Performance

But that performance

It seems there are still some issues.

But you can say it.

Cloud Reader

Because it may be Cloud Reader.

It is a product that you have been more deeply involved in.

You can also use this product to introduce yourself.

For example, an eBook software.

What are the different parts?

And how it works.

Cloud Reader实际上

Cloud Reader actually

When we first created this product.

I did not participate in that initial part.

Because I joined this team later.

But when it was done initially, it was actually...

Because Amazon said

你Kindle书是

Your Kindle book is

Buy once read everywhere

Buy once, read everywhere.

Once you buy it, you can read this book anywhere.

So it appears on the web platform.

It's a very normal thing.

Appear on the web platform.

It has a lot of platforms that are very traditional.

For example, the differences between iOS and Android.

比如说

For example

One obvious difference is that

If you use this Cloud Reader,

You will find that when you open a book,

This book is opened immediately.

On other platforms

Including e-book readers

E Ink

E Ink reader

iOS Android上面

On iOS and Android.

It all requires downloading this book.

Only then can this content be opened.

There are many such differences.

Web App

Then as a Web App

Kindle Cloud Reader

Kindle Cloud Reader

Offline Reading

It also supports Offline Reading.

Because at that time we were doing this.

When this product is...

The expectations of the public and expectation both refer to...

Since I have already downloaded this book.

Then I should be able to watch it offline.

So at that time we also spent a lot of time.

Come support the situation of Offline.

For a Web App,

It is possible that cases supporting Offline have now emerged.

Probably not very much.

It should be said that the entire maturity.

Web App

Then it's a web app that is often used by people.

Very rarely.

Recently, there is a group.

Someone posted an article.

It's just a reposting of an article.

There is a developer.

He said I have given up on iOS again.

我转Android

I'm switching to Android.

Then his reasons are basically

Just because he is a web app developer himself.

Then he realized that there are all kinds of restrictions on iOS.

That's just how it is.

Web App

But I think all of these types are pretty much Web Apps.

Then oppose in

Or at least in terms of ideology.

Opponents of the Native platform.

He has to face such a problem.

That is to say, give me one example.

Examples of web apps that are being used by many people every day.

Actually, it is very, very little.

而Kindle Cloud Reader

And Kindle Cloud Reader

I think it might be one of the very few.

Words used daily.

I'm not so sure about this.

Web App

But I personally think it is a relatively successful Web App.

It's often used.

And at least you think this thing is

It is available.

Proof of Concept

It is not just a Proof of Concept.

It's not just a toy.

It is not just used to demonstrate HTML5.

Can achieve the effect of how to burn flowers.

But rather seriously go to satisfy one.

A tangible thing that actually exists as a demand.

It can meet the real needs of users.

It is basically a complete Kindle client.

It just runs on the web.

So a complete Kindle client.

What components does it consist of?

Probably need to introduce it to everyone.

You just mentioned something called a bookshelf and a library.

It's called "Library" in English.

But generally in the country, it's just called a bookshelf.

Such a concept

I think when we talk about e-book products

When it comes to e-book software

We must consider that it has two main parts.

It's just that when I talk about client products,

Because the server side certainly has many complex components.

The two main components of that client product.

It is just the part of content rendering.

Another aspect is related to the UI layer.

Actually, when I talk about content rendering,

In fact, it can also be seen.

It's just that its focus is different.

Its content rendering aspect focuses on.

The content of this book itself.

How to present the content of this book.

The UI aspect is what needs to be done for user interaction.

So it is mainly divided into these two major aspects.

I'll briefly interject here.

The rendering mentioned by Luo Yiwen.

This is a term used by programmers.

He is referring to how to display something.

In simple terms, it can be understood like this.

Because of the word "rendering"

I actually disagree with it quite a bit.

It is the translation of the English word "render."

But for the sake of

Because rendering is now universally recognized as translation.

So we'll continue to use it for the time being.

But if you don't know.

It means to refer to.

How do you mean?

For example, the EPUB file we mentioned earlier.

Or the content images included in an AZW file.

Sometimes the sound and so on.

Display it in the Kindle app.

A simpler example is

Actually, the browsers we all commonly use.

It also needs to process an HTML file.

Then show it.

Then this process of displaying is called rendering.

It's just rendering.

Yes

OK

OK

Just talked about it.

Let's start by talking about the rendering aspect.

It's just this aspect of rendering.

We mentioned earlier.

E-books come in a variety of different formats.

Then it will be packaged into different things.

Then put them in different files.

Put on the server.

Then reach the client through the network.

Different clients have different approaches.

For example, I just mentioned that some clients...

It is going to download the entire file.

The reason for doing this.

It may be because it has better compression efficiency.

Then it can be used offline.

One point that must be understood about this place is that

In the early days.

When the internet was not so developed yet.

If you want to

If you can put...

Download the file on a stable network.

Then you can continue to

Read this book completely carefree.

It is a very important matter for users.

Because when you are reading a physical book,

You don't need to think about this problem.

So in the early days

This is a very important matter.

Then later we had...

像Kindle Cloud Reader这种

Like Kindle Cloud Reader.

This web app can immediately open books.

那webapp的话

Then about the web app,

It's also like mentioned earlier.

It is an entirely different format.

So the style it presents is

Then it uploads from the server to the client.

There are also various different implementations, right?

等一下

Wait a moment.

So a Kindle book.

Actually, there are two versions on the server.

One is for Cloud Reader.

One is for other customers.

You could say that.

Actually, an e-book is on the server.

It can have many, many versions.

Because of this place.

I believe you must have known this before.

When the author needs to modify a character.

Or to say when the transmitter needs to modify an image.

It will upload a new version.

This is another situation.

But because you just mentioned that...

You said that Cloud Reader uses a different format.

So do you know?

Yes.

Cloud Reader

The reason Cloud Reader uses a different format.

It is because it requires special optimizations for the web.

OK

OK

So the publisher will provide you with two versions as well?

没有

None.

This is all internal.

This is made by you yourselves.

Regarding the publisher.

They don't need to know about this matter.

It just doesn't require knowing the complexity in between.

These are all problems that we can solve with our own technical methods.

明白

Understood.

Just now, Luo Yiwen mentioned downloading the entire file and decompressing it.

Some people might feel that it's worth mentioning.

How big can an eBook be?

I think this might also require providing a basic concept.

It's now.

For example, you create an e-book.

If there are pictures inside.

You should be able to.

Everyone hopes that it supports this retina resolution.

对吧

Right?

In this case.

It is very common for an image to exceed one megabyte.

Then you can think about it when there are more images.

It's really normal for this book to be over 30 megabytes or even over 50 megabytes.

Uh.

The largest Kindle eBook I have ever purchased is over 500 megabytes.

Then download that.

Especially in China.

Downloading it in the country will be very painful.

Actually, regarding e-books…

If it is a pure text.

If it's an e-book consisting solely of text.

Its size may not be particularly large.

But ah

But if he doesn't have many illustrations either.

Many forms.

Then it is even a comic.

If it's all just pictures

Then its size is very large.

Correct.

Oh right.

I just tried to open it.

I'm on that web reader.

It just opened in CloudReader.

I said you have five books of 500 megabytes each.

Indeed, as you said.

It is when the size of this file reaches a certain extent.

You will be able to experience.

Just now, Luo Yiwen said.

Why can it be opened in CloudReader?

马上读

Read it immediately.

And in that client.

For example, download it on the iPhone client before reading.

The difference was significant at that time.

Just like this book that is over 500 megabytes.

Even if I were in the United States.

You want to download.

It might also be necessary.

To be honest, downloading e-books on Kindle.

Sometimes the speed is not that fast.

It might also need a certain amount.

One to two minutes, two to three.

One or two minutes.

It will definitely take one or two minutes.

At first, Kindle told everyone.

We can do it in 60 seconds.

Deliver your book to your client.

But because we are working on various formats.

It’s all kinds of books.

What should I say?

For example, magazines.

Or when it is a file with multiple images.

The volume of the book will increase.

So we have always guaranteed the 60 seconds thing.

Actually, it is quite difficult.

Moreover, depending on the network conditions.

60 seconds is actually quite difficult.

It is actually a very reluctant guarantee.

Then what I just mentioned was...

There are different formats of books.

It can be used on different clients.

There are different ways to display.

Actually, if you think about it carefully,

The paper books we see in our everyday real life.

After you buy it back

It's all been typeset for you.

The size of its paper will never change.

对吧

Right?

Then if it is on an electronic screen

Even if you hold your phone sideways.

Hold the phone vertically.

The format of this book.

How much does the book show?

How many words are displayed on that screen?

It may all be changing.

So when rendering the content,

The size of the screen.

For many, many details and algorithms related to typesetting.

We all need to go through very careful handling.

Let me give you a few examples.

比如说

For example

A relatively common situation in English.

It's when a piece of text is too long.

Then, when a word is too long, it needs to wrap to the next line.

If you look at it in the early stages.

When you were looking at the browser in the early days

Many times it changes its line of work.

Just take this entire word and move it to the next line.

But if you are reading a normal physical book...

You might see this approach as

It will use a hyphen.

Connect the two words together.

Such things happen in the handling of e-books.

In the processing of e-book typesetting.

All need special calculations to achieve.

Especially when, for example, your font size changes.

If this matter were in a physical book,

You might do it directly in InDesign.

It should be fixed.

As mentioned in the article just now.

So once you finish designing, it's done.

For example, if you just change the font size in an e-book,

Then the number of words in your line has changed, right?

At this time, you may need to add a hyphen.

It's just another word.

So this actually involves the CPU as well.

This needs to be calculated.

It is a living process that requires calculation.

Yes, it requires an algorithm to achieve it.

Examples like this.

Actually, there are many, for example.

A type of layout we often see in printed books.

Especially, I saw a kind of layout in the magazine.

It's just a natural break.

The first character might take up three to four lines.

Then it shows up particularly big.

Then, actually when you are browsing the web

You rarely see this kind of layout.

Because it's in the browser.

Supporting this type of layout is relatively immature.

But when you are reading an e-book

Many people say the quality of the e-books I read.

It may be very different from when it was a physical book.

This moment might be it.

Because it has some technical limitations.

Make it impossible for such things to happen.

But as time goes by

In this regard

In terms of rendering quality.

We are becoming more and more.

All platforms are improving more and more.

But I must say a word.

The speed of improvement is very slow.

For example, the drop cap you just mentioned.

This is the first time sinking.

In Chinese, it is commonly referred to as first-time sinking.

I actually feel that this support...

I rarely see it.

Moreover, this actually involves how to say.

It is your e-book itself.

That document also needs to be processed.

You need to mark it out, right?

Yes.

You need to tell the Kindle software.

The first word of my first paragraph.

Be sure to make it big.

要做成drop cap

To create a drop cap.

This means that there is something the publishing house needs to do.

On the other hand, there's the Kindle.

Actually, the Kindle is still...

Is there now?

It is still forced to be fully justified.

对吧

Right?

This is the point that is most criticized.

But actually, my purpose today is...

It's not to say that Kindle is good or bad in terms of formatting.

Because I just said.

Everyone's progress is actually quite slow.

It's just that if you really take the past...

If we demand the same typesetting quality in e-books as in print books.

Now it's mostly e-books.

Actually, it can't be considered passing.

For example, what is this called?

sorry

What is that called?

small caps

Support for small caps

As everyone may have noticed when reading paper books.

Some letters are clearly in uppercase.

But its height is the same as that of lowercase letters.

This kind of special.

A special font, perhaps.

Font style.

Sometimes it is very useful.

That means it can serve an emphasis role.

But also very elegant.

It won't make you feel like it's shouting.

If you write everything in uppercase and shout.

May shout loudly.

It feels like yelling loudly.

But using this small caps.

It will appear very elegant.

This kind of thing is actually supported on various platforms.

Neither is it so complete.

Yes.

Actually, when we talk about putting a text...

Or it could be an image to show.

When displayed on the screen for the user.

Everyone may

The understanding in the subconscious means to say.

Isn't this exactly what a browser does every day?

This is not the software computer screen.

Is it something you do every day?

But in reality, there are very many intricacies involved.

Especially when you need to adapt to various screen sizes

Then various kinds of characters.

Then, this kind of challenge is actually very, very numerous.

所以

So

Sometimes when users are complaining, for example, they say...

We often see users complaining that

Your place is displayed incorrectly.

Or it could be the format of this place.

It seems not quite right.

Not as good as the index.

We are actually all working hard to modify it.

Each manufacturer is doing the same thing.

Yes.

However, I would like to point out one thing.

This means that users certainly have the right to complain.

没错

That's right.

But sometimes

I think many people actually don't quite know what they are complaining about.

Because, for example,

Many people, if you give them...

We assume that we are creating an electronic reading software.

It is not allowed to adjust the font size.

That means there will definitely be a lot of complaints.

How is this possible?

All mainstream reading software allows for font size adjustment.

But what I want to tell you is

If a software

Font size adjustments are not allowed.

Many of the problems mentioned just now no longer exist.

对的

That's right.

对吧

Right?

So what is it that you ultimately want?

You need to think about it.

It is just that I am not allowed to adjust the font size.

我可以

I can.

For example, our marketing team.

We can say.

We can say with great confidence

Our typesetting surpasses everyone else.

Just because of this.

This is serious.

Because it is fixed.

对吧

Right?

But in that case,

You can't stop those.

For example, what does it include?

For example, there are some people with poor examples.

It also includes some actually acceptable examples.

But he just likes to adjust the font size for no reason.

People of all sizes come to play.

You can't stop these people's complaints.

So this ultimately

If you consider it from a product manager's perspective.

其实

Actually

When you think about this question.

It will become more interesting.

I want to say that understanding electronic products in this era is important.

Or when understanding any product.

You need to go.

If you are willing.

You can think about it more.

The people who make this product.

A trade-off he needs to make.

The choices and sacrifices he made.

For example, as Lawrence just mentioned.

Increased the font size.

After adding the font.

Regarding rendering.

The difficulty of rendering will increase a lot.

In fact, a very direct and straightforward example is

We know that the PDF format is fixed.

It is relatively perfect.

But think about it.

If we directly convert the PDF

Put it on iPhone with a 4-inch to 6-inch screen.

When displayed on such a screen

The reading experience is actually very poor.

Although it is very perfect in itself.

But its reading experience

It's not what you think.

It's not the way you hope it can be.

Yes.

I think many people do indeed.

He was complaining about the typesetting.

Did not take this issue into consideration.

Because, in fact, what is design?

To some extent, design.

It means.

Isn't it to some extent?

Design actually means this thing.

I was arranged by someone else to help you.

Then you can't just move it around casually.

And the proportion is in the design.

It is a very important concept.

But once you change the font size.

In fact, the proportions of the entire layout have been altered.

Well, from the designer's perspective.

Actually, it is a kind of.

It is a form of usurpation.

You can say.

Then the reason why we are now

There is indeed such a tradition.

It's just such a reading app.

A tradition that can inevitably modify the font size.

This actually

It is just a one.

It's a kind of inertia, I suppose.

It is possible that the earliest version of this software was like this.

Or, for example, the earliest browsers.

From the browser from the very beginning.

Web browsers from the very beginning.

You can then go and change the font size.

对吧

Right?

So everyone thinks that...

We must allow everyone to do this.

Furthermore, on the internet.

Actually, accessibility is a very important concept.

We can always say.

You shouldn't.

Because of certain users

He has some congenital reasons.

Then there is no way to access certain content.

This innate reason includes

For example, I am a marginalized group.

对吧

Right?

Or the eyesight is very poor.

Or even if it is not a disadvantaged group.

After you get older

Your vision will also worsen.

Do you think it would be possible to enlarge the font size a bit?

It will be much more comfortable.

对吧

Right?

But on the other hand, we need to think about...

When you read a physical book

You have nothing customized that you can do.

You have no right to choose.

基本上

Basically

Correct.

Then I can put the words here.

It is precisely this lack of choice that is missing.

Enhance the reading experience of printed books.

It's about the layout of printed books.

Not to mention the reading experience.

There are too many elements included in the reading experience.

Its layout will make you feel good.

It's just the way it is.

I personally completely agree with this point.

I speak only for myself.

I personally agree with this very much.

然后

Then

Everything that Luo Yiwen said today.

Does not represent the views of Kindle or Amazon.

Correct.

They all represent myself.

Actually, speaking of...

Speaking of paper books,

有一点

A little bit.

What I want to mention is

In fact, the platform.

The medium itself.

It provides for a reading experience.

Or it is an effect of rendering display.

There are also many influences.

For example,

Many people may be on Kindle.

Many Kindle users

Maybe they are all here.

Kindle

On the Kindle e-ink device.

看过PDF

Have read the PDF.

Especially that kind.

Very large PDF

When they choose to amplify.

They will find that saying

I want to move a little.

Why is it so difficult to move around on Kindle?

Why do I turn a page every time?

Or when moving a few squares.

It takes so long.

Only then can it be displayed.

In fact, this is a limitation of the hardware.

Because of the hardware itself.

它是

It is

Because it is electronic ink.

It has a limitation on refresh rate inherent to the technology itself.

So in the early electronic books

Early electronic ink

On the electronic ink reader.

This is very difficult to optimize.

It's a feature that provides a great experience.

Yes.

You just mentioned it at the beginning of the program.

Besides transmitting written texts, what else do you offer?

Formats like AZW

Will you still support some?

A book with a relatively unique format.

For example, like comics and so on.

Can you introduce this aspect to everyone as well?

Yes

We support.

What is currently supported in Japan is Japanese manga.

Then support the United States in America as well.

The local type of comic here.

That

It's exactly because of what I just said.

Maybe I can't say it's just because.

Let's roll back a bit here.

Okay.

It is supportive of comics for us.

In Japan, we support that kind of thing in Japan.

The kind of comics we usually see.

Including the approved version.

Then in the United States.

We also support this kind of English comic from the United States.

There are many times when...

We are limited by various platforms.

或者是

Or it is

Or it could be due to various formats of other documents.

We will enhance the reading experience.

Make some innovations.

For example, in

For example, on English comics.

We will choose.

We have something called panel mode.

This panel mode is in English.

It means grid.

A reading mode for a grid.

That is to say, its actual reading experience.

It's just that when you are reading a comic.

Or reading a children’s book.

The main characteristic of this type of book is

The size of the image is very large.

But the amount of text is very small.

So you imagine that...

When you are reading a book with a lot of pictures.

When the text in the book is very small.

On the small screen.

Your reading experience is very poor.

Because you can't see that word clearly.

If you want to see that picture clearly.

Then you can choose to say to enlarge it.

That special feature of Kindle can also be used.

叫做panel mode

It's called panel mode.

Just double-click that text.

This text will pop up.

变大

Become bigger.

Then it will facilitate your reading.

Then you can read it just like you would read a normal book.

Turn the page like this to jump.

Continuously jumping through various kinds of boxes.

Correct.

老实说

To be honest.

I think support for comics is like this.

This is a very regrettable matter.

可以说

It can be said.

就是说

That is to say.

Because you are actually in a four-inch.

Even viewing comics on a five-inch phone.

The reading experience cannot be very good.

没错

That's right.

So as an e-book platform

You should go support the comic.

This is purely a commercial consideration.

Because, for example,

We know that Japan is a major country for manga.

So everyone is watching comics.

So this market must be somewhere.

Everyone must have this need.

Moreover, there is especially this demand for comics.

Because we know

A very, very large set.

It could be dozens of books.

对吧

Right?

It’s not like it used to be anymore.

Now everyone feels that they can see it in the electronics market.

Of course, it is a very significant thing.

There is a feeling of relief.

However, this business demand is entirely reasonable.

But you can't help but feel.

Because you know the artist or the cartoonist of the comic.

He is doing it for a reason.

He is targeting a fixed size.

Created on a sheet of fixed-size paper.

没错

That's right.

对吧

Right?

No matter if it is, for example, in the beginning.

For example, you are in something like Shonen Jump.

Serialized in such a magazine.

Or will a standalone version be released later?

Actually, there is a premise to this.

That means you can see an entire page at a glance.

And you don't need to.

His font size won't be so small that you need to...

You have to get closer to see.

Or like you just said, double-click something to see.

So I think even if you arrive...

How do you say it has reached the size of an iPad mini?

Actually, it's fine to just read comics.

But you insist on making people read comics on their phones.

In fact, this is quite a thankless job.

I remember the only comic book I ever bought on Kindle.

It was bought from the Kindle Japan store.

At that time, what I bought was Attack on Titan, right?

During the time when Attack on Titan was most popular.

Because at that time I purely just wanted to take a look.

Kindle

How does Kindle solve the comic book problem?

But at that time, I was actually very disappointed.

Actually, he didn't have the feature you mentioned back then.

So what I actually bought at that time was just a bunch of pictures.

On different platforms.

His experience is different.

If you are having this experience on iOS

Regarding Japanese manga.

We are on e-ink.

His experience is a fourfold amplification.

If you double-click on one of his corners.

He would essentially divide an image into four parts.

He can zoom in four times.

Then you can navigate left and right.

His different boxes.

On iOS, because its refresh rate is better.

对吧

Right?

So you can double-click to zoom in at will.

Then pull left and right.

Then you can read wherever you want.

Yes.

Of course I agree.

On a small-sized screen.

This experience is very bad.

Correct.

就是

That is it.

In short, don't expect to read comics on your phone.

Yes.

Use an iPad mini or other tablet computers.

It might be the best choice.

Or just use the online version.

Speaking of Japanese manga...

Actually, there is a very interesting story.

It's just that when we are in...

Because Kindle Cloud Reader now also supports Japanese manga.

When we are doing this thing.

In fact, there is a very interesting phenomenon.

We have found that most of the bestselling books in Japan...

Bestselling comic books

Its scale is非常高的.

When I talk about scale.

It is an adult scale.

So at that time when we were testing in the office

In fact, I often encounter a very awkward situation.

You just need to read this book.

You need to use this testing book to conduct a test.

Then when you open the content of this book.

You might feel like saying

I feel embarrassed to open this book in the office.

NSFW是吧

Is it NSFW?

Yes.

Not safe for work

Not safe for work

At one point, on the screens of many of us.

Must find them all.

Find a suitable one in this book.

A one-page document that won't cause any issues when placed in the office.

Then come back to do the test.

This is very interesting.

Because you know, right?

We might mention the KF8 format later.

This is a type supported by Kindle.

How to say?

Complex typesetting

Or an e-book format with various multimedia features.

After this format comes out

I'm just very curious.

I would really like to know.

What kind of realm is this format of e-book?

Then it became very difficult to find.

Because on the Kindle page

On the Amazon page.

There isn't really a KF8 zone.

At least there wasn't any at that time.

I don't know if there is now.

Then I finally managed to find a book later.

This book is an erotic book.

It should be called an erotic book.

It features various women bound in a tea room.

Photos like that from SM.

Then that was the only book I found.

Then at that time iOS

Kindle still does not support KF8 format.

Nexus 7

So I have to use my Nexus 7.

Read this book on an Android tablet.

Then we can directly continue to talk about it.

We just mentioned that.

Support for comics

But of course, the so-called complex typesetting.

That is typography beyond just pure text.

Not just a comic.

There are all kinds of things.

The difficulty is even higher.

Some more glamorous examples.

For example, perhaps the most extreme case.

What we know

Including our previous discussions in IT.

What is mentioned is the one published by Push Bar Press.

叫Our Choice

Called Our Choice

Then an example a little later than it.

Earth Primer

There is a book called Earth Primer.

I don't know if you have seen it or not.

没有

No.

Earth Primer

Earth Primer is a book.

It should be aimed at younger readers.

Explain to them the structure of the Earth.

For example, what is the crust?

Then the interior of the Earth.

It slices open a planet like a watermelon.

Then I'll show you what it looks like inside.

比如说core

For example, core.

What is mento?

So how is a volcano formed?

对吧

Right?

This topic immediately makes everyone feel...

It is very suitable to be made into a multimedia e-book.

In fact, it really did take a lot of effort.

Basically, this is a...

According to the classification of an ordinary person.

This is no longer a book.

This is an app.

Then it contains a large number of such interactions.

For example, you can use your hands to touch the magma inside the Earth.

Then you can see this flow of magma.

Then how does this flow affect the changes on the surface of the crust?

For example, causing a volcanic eruption.

Such things

Illustrated with images and text.

Then the interactivity is very strong.

Moreover, this interactivity is

It has chosen the right theme.

It is not for interaction's sake.

It is not meant to tell you how good our programming and design capabilities are.

对吧

That's right.

This is indeed a very wonderful example.

So this belongs to an extreme.

Then the other extreme is

For example, pure text.

For example, this romance novel.

It's a book made up entirely of text.

对吧

Right?

So in between this

I think KF8 actually hopes to achieve a very glamorous effect in the end.

But I don't know if you are familiar with this format.

In its current state of development.

I am not satisfied with this format.

Actually, I have some understanding.

Because this is something we often use in our daily life.

Actually, the main improvement of KF8 compared to the old version is

It supports many features of HTML5 and CSS3.

So this makes the book

The interactivity of this document will become stronger than before.

The layout may look better than before.

The KF8 is just a general term.

Regarding the name for this new format.

It has many small subdivisions underneath.

所以

So

好吧

Alright.

Actually, regarding KF8

I think we should just stop here.

Because on one hand, this format itself is a...

How to say?

Just like what was mentioned earlier.

You ordinary reader.

You are on Amazon's website.

You won't be able to find such a so-called KF8 section.

事实上

In fact

I believe in Amazon's view.

It's best not for everyone to pay attention to such things.

对吧

Right?

The book we ultimately saw.

What kind of format is behind it?

Perhaps this is something that users actually don't need to worry about.

So we won't say much about it here.

But there is still a question.

I don't know if many people are aware.

When you are in a reader

Then when there are many books on your bookshelf.

These books actually have a little bit.

There are commonalities with each app on your phone.

They can be updated.

Correct.

In fact, this is also the biggest advantage of e-books.

For example, when my book was published.

It has fewer illustrations.

After the user reflected to me.

After reflecting with the publisher.

The publisher said we should add more illustrations to this e-book product.

Even say that we can make it a bit fancier.

Change a format.

Change to a better display method.

Or change the layout.

This kind of book can only be accessed if it is not already downloaded to your client.

It can all be changed on the server side.

The next time you download this book.

You will gain new features.

Sometimes the client may prompt you by saying

The content of this book has been updated.

You can delete this book.

Redownload it to see the updated content.

Correct.

I have encountered this situation.

Of course, for example, at this point.

It would be better to do it in iBooks.

Just let you have the whole iBooks.

It visually resembles the App Store quite a bit.

There will be a specific update for it.

对吧

Right?

There is an update in this area.

When we were working at Byte Company.

ByteDance also has such an area.

Then the Kindle doesn't have such an area.

Sometimes there will be a small one on the book.

Something like a footnote.

This is how you have the updates.

Most of the time

This matter is actually for the users.

It doesn’t really need to be known.

Because I don't know how everyone reads.

But my understanding is that more often than not.

You might have about 50 books in your account.

Or it could be 20 books.

You are actually only reading one or two books.

The books that are not available in your local area.

Actually, it's all in the cloud.

Then in the cloud.

Its various updates have no impact on you personally.

So in fact, the probability of this situation occurring is very small.

Moreover, even if, for example, you have already downloaded the book.

Then it prompts you that there are updates available.

I remember many people would ask in the early years.

I hope to have release notes like software.

It’s just telling you exactly where it has changed.

But this is often not very realistic.

Because sometimes it may only correct a few typos.

Is it necessary to tell you?

Of course, I know that the thoughts of software people are certainly everything.

Anything must be recorded.

Then there must be documentation.

Otherwise, the maintenance afterwards will become very difficult.

However, this kind of thinking is actually very difficult to replicate in the updating of books.

Because it's like in the past, for example, during the era of pure paper books.

There is also a so-called second edition and third edition.

Then every version/edition.

Especially some textbooks, each edition of them...

This knowledge is updated every day.

Then it might take another five years to write a new book.

For example, when writing a programming textbook.

It needs to add a lot, a lot of content.

In this case.

You may need a general overview in the introduction.

Or for example, in the preface of the second edition, it will mention.

But generally speaking, it won't be said in a particularly detailed manner.

But if there are things like essay collections, for example,

Then when the second edition was released

The author might just be putting together some...

He slightly adjusted the sentences that he found unattractive at that time.

It's been modified a bit, right?

Moreover, if, for example, a collection of essays was first published in the 1990s

Then when it was time to release the second edition in 2012.

The author of 2012 is no longer the person he was in the 1990s.

The sentences he found pleasing to the eye back then.

You might find it completely unappealing even if you watched it in 2012.

So how to say it at this time?

So these changes are often quite arbitrary.

It's not like a software update.

There must be a reason behind it.

It may be the result of a meeting after the product manager, programmers, and the boss got together.

对吧

Right?

They have a decision-making process.

Then his modifications must make sense.

But the updates to the book are often many.

Unless you are

For example, scholars studying this writer or something.

In fact, it is not that important for most people.

对吧

Isn't it?

Correct.

Moreover, everyone is just like we mentioned earlier.

When you publish a book

Let him revise it from a version by an author.

Then pass it down all the way.

Flow to the publisher.

And then finally to the e-book publishers and distributors.

Then finally to your client.

This is a very long process.

So what is needed in between?

So when you see a book with errors

You might go back to see it tomorrow.

You might still have typos.

You can download it every other day.

Delete it and download it again.

There will still be typos.

You go at this time.

You might need to understand that.

All the updates in between take time.

It's just like all software updates.

Because this is something that is done manually by people after all.

Correct.

Moreover, there is still one reason that is...

The entire toolchain in the book sector is very underdeveloped.

Moreover, it also lacks standards.

For example, in the overall version control of the software.

Update management

There are indeed many different sets of tools.

对吧

Right?

For example, something like git.

是吧

Is that so?

Correct.

Like many people use GitHub.

This is something that software engineers generally have a consensus on to some extent.

But as Luo Yiwen just mentioned.

If you want to update a book.

First, you need to find the original author.

Explain this matter to him clearly.

It may take some time.

Then you have to wait for him to make a decision.

Ask me if I am willing to cooperate.

Are you willing to participate in such matters?

Then in the end you use

He doesn't have a toolchain.

The author probably doesn't know what git is.

Then there isn't a ready-made one either.

Just as I mentioned at the beginning.

It may be the original electronic version.

This version without typos is an InDesign file.

Then this author

Even if an author is someone who is very skilled at playing on the computer

It is also difficult to guarantee that he definitely has the InDesign software on his computer.

So this involves a lot of issues.

So this job will become very difficult.

And many times it's just that.

Everyone is speaking from the perspective of the publisher.

Would feel that doing such things is very unprofitable, right?

Correct.

Okay, what we just discussed was all about the rendering aspect.

This means that the book is finally presented.

What does he look like?

How is his layout?

Then what kind of font did he use?

What font size to use?

Then wait, wait, wait.

Then of course we all know this eBook software.

There is another piece.

This Luo Yiwen was just introduced.

It is his UI interaction layer.

So you're saying it's a bookshelf, right?

The part about the bookshelf is basically what books you have in your account.

Then the e-book software presents it to you in a certain way.

Most of them are likely in a grid format.

Or it could be presented to you in a list format.

Then you go through this list.

You can have different interactions with him.

For example, you can download.

You can put it in different folders.

Or you can share it with others.

That is the library or the library section or the bookshelf part.

Actually, when you open this ebook...

Then when I saw this reader, it was the content part.

You might actually notice the toolbar above and below it.

It also has some features, such as the right-click menu.

These functions are also part of what I referred to as this interaction aspect.

Um.

So when you were working on Kindle at that time...

Have you encountered any significant challenges?

Or perhaps a more interesting experience.

Can I talk to everyone about it?

I feel that there really aren't many challenges.

But it's interesting.

Because how should I put it?

It is when I am working as a programmer.

I think most programmers are like this.

It's just when you need to do something.

Maybe your PM has already defined the requirements really well for you.

He might be your PM coming here to you.

Okay, today we need to add a search function.

The challenge you need to solve.

Actually, it may not be closely related to the eBook format itself.

对吧

Right?

Yes.

Then don't say anything.

Speaking of search,

Searching was not so easy to do in the early years.

Correct.

In terms of performance of early mobile devices

Yes.

So in terms of search.

In fact, we can elaborate a bit on the matter of search.

It is precisely because we know that Google performs searches when...

It needs to index the entire internet.

Just index it a bit.

Correct.

Actually, it’s the same for e-books.

Because e-books have a lot of content.

For example, if you want to search for a word.

If you are simply looking at this document from the perspective of...

For example, searching for two words within 200,000 words.

Or find the 200 places where this word appears.

In fact, it is a very large feature.

功成量

Merit measurement

对的

That's right.

This is something that many people may not be able to understand.

In fact, what is an e-book?

It is nothing more than a very large text file.

对吧

Right?

Correct.

So when you are doing this thing

You are needed.

When we aim to provide users with a better user experience

We need to think of many ways to address this.

The solution it came up with.

I might not be able to explain in detail.

However, its output may include an additional piece of content.

Add to the file of this e-book itself.

This is what we mentioned before.

When an eBook is transmitted from the publisher to Amazon's servers.

We may need to do some more processing.

Apart from encryption.

We might add some more content-related keywords to it.

Or it could be a special tag.

Talk about the characteristics of this book in terms of special metadata.

Even some indexes related to search, ah.

There are other related things.

对了

By the way.

I remember when the first generation iPad was released.

In 2010.

At that time, actually

At that time, the Kindle had already been out for three years.

But at that time, you had to achieve full-text search on performance similar to that of the first-generation iPad.

Actually, it is not easy.

Or you could say that after you implement it, the user experience might be very poor.

You have to wait a long time before you can go out, right?

Yes, and at this time, someone might think to say...

Why do you want to perform a full-text search?

For example, when you search on Google.

It might just be searching online.

Then I can just give you a result directly, right?

But in reality, you have to consider that.

Most of the reading of e-books occurs in an offline context.

You cannot confirm whether the user is using this feature under a situation with an active internet connection.

So most of the time, your search must be done locally.

Because if you don't provide this feature locally

That would be a very confusing experience.

The user won't know that it's because I'm connected to the internet.

So I can search.

I am not connected to the internet anymore.

So I cannot search.

Yes, and the user's default expectation must be that this book has already been downloaded.

Why do you need to be online to search?

And search for keywords in a book.

In fact, I think this is one of the biggest advantages of e-books that is often underestimated.

对吧

Right?

The advantage of e-books that everyone often talks about is their convenience.

No weight.

You can bring a lot of books.

These are indeed all true.

But this kind of retrieval is actually

Because many times your mind might remember.

It really is a certain passage.

Two key words in it.

You just need to search, and you can find it.

Seinfeld

For example, my favorite American TV show is called Seinfeld.

I remember a lot of dialogues from Seinfeld.

Then sometimes I want to know which episode this dialogue is from.

Seinfeldscripts.com

Because there happens to be a website called Seinfeldscripts.com.

It is all of its scripts.

The script for each episode has been uploaded.

So every time I want to search,

I just need to search for that site on Google.

冒号Seinfeldscripts.com

Colon Seinfeldscripts.com

Then I searched for keywords.

I remember two words.

I will be able to find out which episode it is soon.

This is very, very useful to me.

In fact, sometimes books are the same way.

Especially because I often have to write things.

Sometimes when writing something.

I need to quote a passage from the book.

At this time, the full-text search function is very important.

Actually, when we talk about this here,

In fact, we can see the past few years.

When e-books first started.

There is already a very big difference in interaction.

If you think about going back.

In the beginning

An entire interactive experience of the e-book.

It is a simulation of an experience where you interact in the physical world.

For example, in addition to displaying content, an e-book...

It will provide you with the ability to take notes.

It will provide you with the bookmarking feature.

It is very simple.

It will even tell you.

Which page of the book are you on now?

It's just the page number or even the percentage.

In fact, this is all simulating a real physical world.

An experience of reading books.

Amazon

But if you take a closer look at Amazon...

或者是iBook

Or it could be iBook.

Or the actions taken by other e-book manufacturers.

They have actually made some breakthroughs in functionality.

Come innovate to provide you with something.

An experience that cannot be provided by physical books.

Search

For example, as you just mentioned, Search.

And then there is a feature that Amazon launched a few years ago.

叫做Time left to read

Called Time left to read.

This function is basically to give you a rough judgment.

Did you finish reading this chapter or finish this book?

How much more time is needed?

In fact, this is the case for many people.

He is reading a paper book.

I don't know what other people's reading habits are like.

But for me

Sometimes I have a rough idea.

That means this book is still so thick.

Then how much longer might I need to read?

Should I finish reading this chapter before going to sleep?

Or maybe after I finish reading this chapter.

Just went to use this bathroom or something like that.

So there are many, many new features like this.

Then this kind of innovation in functionality

As time goes by

It has many, many great features.

Time left to read

I cannot agree to say Time left to read.

It is a new feature.

It is actually intended to try to replicate.

It's just as you said earlier, judging by thickness.

How much longer will it take?

I have to say, how should I put this?

This is likely to be on an e-book.

A way with no way out.

Time left to read

There is this time left to read.

It must be better.

But it's different from when you're reading a physical book.

Use thickness to make a comparison.

It's definitely more convenient to be thick-skinned.

对对

Correct.

In this reading experience.

It may really be hard to find a match.

What features can match it?

对的

That's right.

What about the other aspects?

In fact, there are some more interesting features.

For example, like popular highlight.

This is from a long time ago.

A feature that is available on Amazon eBooks.

Now everyone might actually know about this feature.

It might be because of the medium.

Because when you go to Medium to read a blog,

It may help highlight it for you.

This place has been highlighted by how many people.

In fact, this feature has actually been around for a long time.

It just appeared on the e-books of Amazon Kindle.

It probably just tells you.

When you read this chapter

For example, which famous book contains this sentence?

It has been marked by many, many people.

We will display it on the screen in a certain way.

Let you know that many, many people have highlighted this.

这一段

This段

This feature is actually something that is very love-hate.

Because I also know that there are people who definitely want to turn off this feature.

It is set to on by default, right?

If I remember correctly.

Different clients are not the same.

It is likely that it is turned off by default now.

Yes, there are indeed some people who really do not like to see it.

Because this is actually a form of guidance.

For example, when you turn to a page...

You found a popular highlight.

You might want to go check that out first.

But this might cause some

People who prefer to read such a book in a linear manner feel dissatisfied.

However, this makes me think of another question.

It's this kind of thing.

Actually, just think of how we used to go to the library to borrow books.

Including going to the library to borrow books today.

Or when we go to the second-hand bookstore to buy books.

Many times the books we buy

There are notes written by someone else above.

没错

That's right.

Then it's often very enjoyable to look at other people's notes.

But there is a problem here.

That means this person is...

他是personified

He is personified.

You can feel that there is someone behind you.

But the popular highlight is different.

That one of his is...

I just saw a bunch of people.

This is the sentence that has been underlined the most.

It means this.

But I don't know who is drawing the lines.

对吧

Right?

I don't know what kind of person is behind this.

What is his reading taste like?

Is it a boy or a girl?

How old is he?

对吧

Right?

What nationality is he?

Things like these.

We do not know.

This reminds us of a

没有

None.

I feel that there is always an unmet need.

It's what is called social reading.

Social reading was very popular five or six years ago.

I can't say it's super popular.

But at least everyone

Everyone who wants to create an e-book.

Then there are entrepreneurs who do not want to simply replicate the experience of paper books.

Everyone wants to give their own e-reading software.

Add a social feature.

What do you think about this aspect?

I think to myself.

It's just when I was reading by myself.

If someone comes to disturb me.

Or I could know other people's opinions.

For me

In fact, it is a thing.

A very annoying one.

A very annoying experience.

But I know that many times

Especially in the past few years.

When the term social network is very developed.

Every manufacturer has such thoughts.

For example, Amazon actually acquired a...

A website called Goodreads.

Goodreads is a platform where everyone can communicate online about their reading.

Reading reflection ah.

Or a platform for book reviews.

Then this feature is also being integrated now.

It has been integrated into the Kindle.

That is to say.

When you are reading this book.

You can directly connect your Goodreads account.

Then read your thoughts and reflections after viewing.

Or maybe post the review on this Goodreads website.

Equivalent to that social network's existence.

Exist on that Goodreads website.

But you can do it through your e-book.

During this reading experience

Share your immediate thoughts.

Yes.

I know of the existence of Goodreads.

I have never used it myself.

But I have always felt that...

The social pretext of this ebook.

In fact, it has not been developed.

I think it's a bit of a pity.

Because in fact, I think this demand exists.

We often use screenshots today.

Share excerpts from the book with friends.

对吧

Right?

Then sometimes it might be

Because now it looks like every smartphone.

The image software that comes with it.

There will be some simple editing functions.

Even if it's that e-book software.

Without any notes or anything.

Or the function of drawing lines.

What do you mean by drawing a circle on it after you take a screenshot?

It's all very easy things.

So this demand must exist.

Back then

While everyone is still developing.

When performing functions such as underlining and taking notes, etc.

Everyone has high hopes for the capital.

For example

If I underline two sentences in a paragraph.

Then I took notes.

Then this note should have a dedicated page.

I know that Kindle actually exists.

Kindle

The Kindle has this page.

This page does exist.

And you are on this page.

Kindle

The product manager for Kindle is working on this feature.

Because I still occasionally see that there are

Which person?

Which ID followed me on Kindle?

I remember I have this aspect.

There should be a privacy restriction here, right?

You can set it so that others can't see it, right?

There should be some.

Yes.

I didn't really engage in socializing on this.

But I believe this is

This is in demand.

The word "social" we use at this moment.

It's not like the meaning of, for example, Facebook.

Or socializing in the WeChat sense.

而是说

Instead, it means.

You may have three friends that you particularly trust.

Or read with friends who have interests very similar to yours.

Most of the time you are.

You want to communicate with him.

But I later found out.

Actually, it was Luo Yiwen who told me about it.

The Kindle features that I didn't know about before.

In this regard

It can be said that we have taken a step forward.

It's called what?

什么Preview啊

What preview?

Correct.

是叫Kindle Instant Preview

It is called Kindle Instant Preview.

Correct.

This product

You are involved in this feature, right?

Yes.

I started working on this product from the very beginning.

It is equivalent to me and myself.

A product from our team.

Then what about this product?

Its initial form was

You can be at

Users can be in the client.

When he reads an interesting passage.

Or when reading an interesting book.

He can do it through the system.

就是iPad

It's an iPad.

或者是iOS Android

Or it could be iOS or Android.

The sharing bar of this system.

This sharing feature

Share it.

Part of the content of this book.

Or maybe it's the cover of this book.

Or it could be a variety of things.

Information related to the book.

Share to social networks.

Well, this feature sounds quite normal so far.

But his Kindle is here.

The difference he makes is

After you have shared.

He only shared that part.

Sharing the painting.

Or it could be something outside of the content of the image.

He also provided you with a link.

那这个link

Then this link.

The place he took you to.

就是

That's it.

This is a sample of the book.

That is to say.

He used some web technology.

Come to the browser.

It allows you to see the content of the book itself.

Hmm.

我记得

I remember.

I remember you sent me a link before.

It's just above.

这个Kindle Instant Preview

This Kindle Instant Preview

It is a place that can be embedded into a webpage.

就是

That is.

At that time, the link was a book screen.

Then on the left side of this bookshelf.

There is a small rectangle.

This is it.

A preview of the Kindle edition of the book he reviewed.

You can read in that small window.

Can flip the page.

对吧

Right?

Yes, that's right.

So what I just said

这是Kindle Instant Preview

This is Kindle Instant Preview.

The sharing feature that was just mentioned.

It is the earliest form of manifestation of Kindle Instant Preview.

So his next direction for development is

He can be embedded into a variety of websites.

It's just like you can now embed a YouTube.

Or it could be a video from Youku.

To your own website.

Or to a.

Or share it to anywhere.

That

We want to do this.

The idea we had when making this product is...

A book reviewer.

Or it is a blog by an author.

Even websites that share book content like Guris.

He can embed a sample like this into a Kindle.

This way you can be in.

Basically, you can find it on the internet.

Read the content that someone shared with you at the first moment.

Yes.

This actually

It's a bit like that.

For example, if it is a monthly review,

You insert an iTunes link above.

It is of this kind.

Then I noticed.

这个Instant Preview

This Instant Preview

其实是

Actually it is.

It is fully responsive.

对吧

Right?

Yes, that's right.

It supports.

It supports screens of various sizes.

It also supports screens the size of mobile phones.

Yes.

Because I am currently looking at the Instant Preview page of a book.

然后我

Then I

I am watching it on the computer.

Then I casually resize the browser.

It can be relatively quick.

It is specifically for adjusting the size of this new window.

You can drag it into one.

A rectangle the size of an iPhone.

对吧

Right?

You can also if you drag it.

Make this browser window become

The one that looks relatively wide that we usually see.

This way it will become two columns.

So in this regard, it is responsive.

Yes.

This is a comparison.

Because this is our past.

A product that was made only in the past two years.

So it uses some relatively new web technologies.

Then it is also very much in line with the current trend of responsive design.

If everyone wants to give this function a try.

I recommend everyone to check out ProductHunt.

The website ProductHunt.

It has a dedicated area for recommending books.

As long as this book is available on Amazon.

There is an electronic book version.

It will have a "Read Now" button.

Read Now

You can click on that Read Now.

Then read this content.

Yes.

This is a comparison of it.

A currently popular application.

So there is a question here.

Why is this feature so unobtrusive?

Because in a book's Amazon

On the Amazon page for Kindle books.

It has a purely text link in the bottom right corner.

叫Embed

Called Embed

Embed

Then you click on that Embed.

Only by doing so can one obtain the link for this Instant Preview.

You didn't mention this.

Actually, I don't know about this feature at all.

This feature is currently still in a rollout phase.

We are still in contact with many.

OK

OK

When I was still working there.

I resigned in February.

When I was still working there.

Still in the process of a rollout.

Partner

So it's just some early partners.

And some early ones.

It’s just that the person who discovered that feature is using it.

So this user has also been categorized.

Is it like the two groups A and B?

Embed

Some users can see this Embed on the page.

Some people cannot see.

We don't really know about this anymore.

What is its current condition?

But I believe it is most people.

Embed

They can all see the Embed.

As long as there is a Kindle version.

Because of this

I think it's just a test.

This is also very, very inconspicuous.

Because in fact, users in a...

The time spent on this page of the book is not long.

Google.com

It's a bit like Google.com.

I will take what I want and then leave.

For example, I see a book that I'm interested in.

Send a free sample

I definitely clicked on "Send a free sample" first.

对吧

Right?

Yes.

I press this button.

I just closed that tab directly.

I wouldn't even bother to see what else is on this page.

Embed

And why is it called Embed?

叫Embed

Called Embed.

The first thing that comes to my mind is

Embed

If I have a blog that I can embed.

I would only go to see it.

It didn't mention the word "Preview" at all.

If there is, it might be a different matter altogether.

If you just want to see the Preview.

Detail Page

Actually, on that Detail Page.

On the detail page of that book.

There is generally a feature called Look Inside Book.

You can directly see a sample.

我知道

I know.

But because you told me.

This Instant Preview is after.

I just realized that you put that link.

你可以

You can.

Because it's just a link.

You can use any of these text transmission tools.

Any IM software sent to others.

Then that person can see directly.

Preview

Because I used to think you wanted to see this kind of preview.

You always get it.

对吧

Right?

你得

You have to.

Send a sample

Correct.

You need to send the Free Sample to your own account.

Then you use

You need to open it with that app to be able to see it.

I think the convenience of the two is poles apart.

没错

That's right.

Actually, I also very much agree.

Speaking of this place.

其实Instant Preview它

In fact, Instant Preview it

I think its best feature is the best.

Besides, it allows you to... on the webpage.

Directly and quickly saw a sample outside.

It has another great feature, which is...

它有个Reading Kindle Button

It has a Reading Kindle Button.

The benefit of this feature is that it allows for...

When you are reading this sample.

Then when you find it very interesting.

You can do this through this button.

Add it to your own Kindle account.

OK

OK

Correct.

So for example, you share a book with me.

Then I click.

I find it very interesting.

I can do it like this.

It's equivalent to saving it.

I can see it in my own Kindle App.

Correct.

I think these are actually like...

It is indeed a true innovation of electronic books.

It might be more than what you just said.

How many minutes left to read那些

How many minutes left to read those?

It may be even better.

It is more of something that can only be done by e-books.

Just imagine the past.

If I buy a good book.

I want to share with my friends.

Even if I might today

Because of the index

I will take a photo and send it to the other party.

This first.

How to say.

It is not economical.

You were originally a plain text thing.

You must do it in the form of an image.

And now a photo taken with an iPhone.

The volume is definitely not small.

对吧

Right?

If the other party is someone with not much traffic.

It will still cause some trouble.

It is a very awkward experience.

Yes.

This is a very inelegant way of doing things.

Now things like Instant Preview

He can use a link.

A very short and light piece of text like this.

Just take a whole bunch.

Dozens of pages of text were sent over.

I think this is a really good thing.

Correct.

I personally think this is a very good feature.

It's just in marketing.

Actually, what this place is trying to say is

The United States has done marketing for Kindle.

Actually, it's not that special.

I personally don't think it's particularly good.

But I think what is being done domestically is very good.

So perhaps one day those Kindle colleagues in the country...

Can you help promote this product?

What do you think is the downfall of marketing in the United States?

就是

It is.

Um.

You rarely appear on social networks.

Or see Kindle anywhere.

Anything about Kindle

Any news regarding the e-book section?

I think their idea should be.

Amazon itself is a battle for high traffic.

So we don't need to advertise elsewhere, right?

Yes.

Facebook Twitter

But even Facebook and Twitter.

Today they are also advertising in various places.

Especially when

I personally think it's an e-book now.

In fact, it is about interacting with various kinds of media.

When competing for user attention.

If you don't do some promotion.

Not doing some corresponding marketing.

It is actually very difficult for you to remind users to say.

Actually, you also have the option to read books.

OK

OK

Yes

So Instant Preview is indeed a good thing.

Are there any similar ones like this?

It's just that you think.

Indeed, this is something that can only be done with e-books.

Amazon launched a feature called Wordwise last year.

I don’t remember if it was last year or the year before.

The function of this wordwise is actually the life and death system.

In English, it is called the system of life and death.

Especially when many people are reading foreign language books.

When reading English books

He will encounter a word.

Then it's hard for you to just...

You didn't know what it meant at that time.

Then your usual approach might be to check the dictionary.

Go see what the translation of this word is in the dictionary.

Then come back to read this book.

This is a very disruptive experience.

The function of the Wordwise life and death system.

What it wants to do for you is

It hopes to be there while you are studying.

I'll give you a very inline experience.

Tell you in very brief phrases.

It's hard to understand what the word actually means.

What you are saying is not looking it up in the dictionary, right?

I said this is not looking it up in the dictionary.

OK, I might have never encountered this feature before.

This feature appears more frequently in English books.

Because sometimes you often see a very long word.

For example, you misunderstand this word.

I still can't read very well.

Then if you

Yes, it's this word.

When you see it.

Basically, if you don't know what this word means.

You have no way.

You have no way to guess the meaning of this word without a dictionary.

对不对

Isn't that right?

One of the innovations it made on Kindle is

It will be between the two lines of verse.

A brief description of what this word means.

So it helps you.

So this is not automatic, right?

This is an operation that the user needs to perform in order for it to appear.

The good thing about this feature is that it is automatic.

The Kindle is equivalent to...

Every time I see an English e-book

It will scan the content.

After scanning, it will know that

Which words inside are relatively difficult?

Which words are relatively easy?

It will add this annotation to that difficult word.

Then can you turn it off?

You can turn it off.

You can also adjust the different levels of difficulty.

For example, you are a native speaker.

Know a lot of words.

You might not need this feature.

You can turn it off.

Or you could say you set it so that I only see the most difficult words.

For example, you are a user who is currently learning English.

You are trying to read an e-book.

You might adjust that prompt a bit more.

This is actually a very, very smart.

Then a feature that can very well reflect the advantages of e-books.

This is relatively good on E-ink.

May not be available on iOS and Android.

Oh

Actually, it is also available on that Kindle Fire.

Oh

Correct.

But that means that Android might be faster in the future.

OK

OK

Yes.

就是kindle fire

It's just the Kindle Fire.

It's the product of Android.

就是它是based on Android的

It is based on Android.

所以

So

Oh, there is.

Android上有的

Available on Android.

But it is disabled by default.

好吧

Okay.

What we just mentioned is that...

If counting from the Kindle interview in 2007

E-books have been around for almost 10 years now.

It's like the earlier Palm Pilot.

Reading books up there.

Then let's not talk about it.

Then that's temporarily prehistory.

The history of modern e-books is almost ten years.

Looking back from 2016.

What do you think you still are as a reader?

Feeling particularly dissatisfied.

Hmm.

From a reader's perspective.

就是

Just.

There is one thing that may never be satisfactory.

That is to say, the book I want to find may not necessarily have an electronic version.

This is a lot.

I believe this is a frustration shared by many e-book users.

但这个

But this

I am very surprised.

The first point you mentioned is this.

There is none, there is none.

There are many points I want to make.

This is a ranking of degrees without a particular order.

OK

Okay

But why do you know why?

Because of this, my opinion on him is actually quite ambiguous.

Because on one hand it is clear that today...

Kindle

There are more and more Kindle books now.

You can basically say that new books all have a Kindle version.

没错

That's right.

Moreover, four to five years ago.

The books of certain people I often complain about on Twitter.

For example, like that book by Susan Sontag.

At that time, most of them did not have a Kindle version.

It's all available now.

Many books that I've always hoped would be available in Kindle version are slowly becoming available.

那当然

Of course.

But on the other hand, I am also very clear that you are what you say.

That is to say, there are many particularly good second-hand bookstores in the United States.

In this kind of bookstore, for example, there are some...

A book that may have been published in the 1970s.

Recently, I bought a book that discusses the relationship between classical music and the middle class.

And what he is talking about is not, for example, today.

He is talking about the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.

At that time, the middle class was

Because there were no records at that time.

They want to consume music.

They have to make their own daughter learn music.

For example, wealthy people might send their daughters to learn piano with Chopin.

Such a state.

So at that time, the formation of the middle class.

It is closely related to this classical music itself.

Books like this.

He is more specialized.

If it was published in the 1970s and has not been reprinted since.

Kindle

Whether it's a publisher or Kindle.

There isn't much motivation from Amazon's side either.

Go turn it into a Kindle version.

Therefore, many times this type of book is very valuable.

He presented a style that is different from today's.

Values that are different from today.

A perspective different from today.

Moreover, there are many topics that people were concerned about back then.

Today is already quite rare.

Someone is writing.

So these books have their value.

But these books are indeed difficult to find in Kindle format.

On the other hand.

I think we should give credit to Amazon for this.

Basically, new books all have electronic versions now.

Of course, I think it will also be available on iBooks.

Most new books should be available at various retailers.

Besides this.

I think this matter regarding the reading experience.

Everyone keeps saying it.

But I think the reading experience is something that...

If you are looking to compare physical books and e-books.

That indeed still has a lot.

差距

Gap

For example, there are

I think there are two points that are particularly obvious.

Many people are reading books.

At least I will be like this.

I believe many people will too.

Because I've heard many people say it.

It's when they are reading a book.

They will say.

Then I read to page 185.

Then I suddenly remembered something.

Go back to page 173.

Or it could be a certain page from the return.

Look for that thing I just read.

When translating back and forth like this.

This experience is on the e-book.

I think it is a matter that is difficult to handle well.

Of course, various manufacturers are making all sorts of efforts.

Come to deal with this matter.

But this experience is really, really different.

This is related to that.

Among all the music player software

There is a concept like scrapping.

It's when you want to fast forward and rewind.

You directly pull the slider.

Slider on the scrollbar

Then if your finger

The farther away from that slider.

The faster you go, the slower you can rewind and fast forward.

I think not everyone knows about this feature.

Because when I first learned about this feature

I am very surprised that there is this feature.

Oh really?

Correct.

This feature has existed for a long time.

iTunes has been around for a long time.

I think I can explain it to everyone in a bit more detail.

你说

You say.

It's just that if you are on iOS.

Or play an audio on iTunes.

Or when it is a video.

You might do it the way everyone else does.

At least my approach.

Originally, you would directly use your finger to point at that progress point.

It’s that round button.

Then you will drag it directly.

Sometimes you want to say, ah.

I want to drag for about 10 to 20 seconds, how should I do it?

In fact, this place has a design.

This design is

When you press your finger on the screen.

The longer your finger is from the scrollbar.

The screen will give you a prompt saying

When you reach a certain point

You are currently pulling at double speed.

Or it's being pulled at half the speed.

When you are farther away.

It might be pulling at a quarter of the speed.

Or it could be pulled at four times the speed.

It all depends on how you understand it.

There is no quadruple anymore.

Only one-half and one-fourth.

One half and one quarter.

Correct.

Actually, I think this feature is very useful.

The problem with this feature is that

Its affordance is actually very low.

Yes.

That is to say, it is visually.

It doesn't suggest anywhere that you can do that.

However, generally speaking.

Many users may have discovered this.

It's just that occasionally its fingers.

Not placed exactly on that dot.

A bit further away.

Then at that moment, a appeared on the screen.

HUD

HUD

Heads Up Display

Heads Up Display

Such a display.

Tell you that it has appeared a half.

Then at this point, some of you may have learned.

But there are indeed more people who...

So I really appreciate you taking the time to mention this again just now.

Indeed, as you said.

Many people may not know about this feature.

But why should I mention it?

It's just that you mentioned the difficulty of quickly flipping through e-books.

This matter.

Most people’s solution now is to say.

I will add a small window below for a preview.

Yes, that's right.

But many times this preview window is completely not large enough.

You can see the structure of this text on the page at most.

But if, for example, you are reading a novel...

It's very likely that you'll flip through ten pages.

Its structure is all the same.

It's just a series of characters.

Yes, this is the second point I want to make.

That's equivalent to the second point I want to make.

It's when you are reading an e-book.

Visual Check Point

You are missing a Visual Check Point.

Many people rely on vision.

Relying on layout to remember the content of a book.

Because you have a small screen on the e-book.

Perhaps your screen space is limited.

Then there are more words.

Each page actually looks the same.

Visual Check Point

So the Visual Check Point you mentioned.

For example, I finish reading a physical book.

Open both sides.

You might even remember that a certain word is on the left.

Correct.

Are you referring to things like this?

I understand this.

This is a bit like when everyone used to memorize English vocabulary.

Sometimes it depends on that letter.

For example, the letter D has an extra line on top.

Then the letter P has an extra line at the bottom.

Will remember based on this visual image.

Right, you mean this kind of thing, right?

I think visually it is very helpful for memory.

At least I am a very visual person.

So I think on this point.

Kindle是非常

Kindle is very

Whether it's Kindle or various e-books.

There is no good way to solve this problem.

Yes, especially in the situation I just mentioned.

For example, I remember this person.

For example, I am reading a novel.

I remember this character in this picture.

It probably appeared in this position on the left page.

Then I'll go back to find it.

Then when I looked for it

I might not be able to find it on the e-book.

Because every page is the same length.

And when it comes to printed books.

Do you know it is on the left side of this page?

So you might be looking more seriously to the left.

Or this middle section.

Yes, it makes sense.

This is the first time I have heard this statement.

But I feel that I agree with this statement.

Very interesting.

Speaking of the issue with the progress bar just now.

Actually, there is something very interesting here.

It's just to solve the issue of flipping pages back and forth.

Sometimes you may

Especially when you are working on that kind of reference book.

You might say.

There is something in this place.

I might jump to chapter five to take a look.

它的definition

Its definition.

Then I will come back to this place to take a look.

对吧

Right?

Or it has an internal link.

It’s to take you to another place.

A farther place.

We know that there are many e-books now.

It has the synchronization function.

It will synchronize you to the farthest part you have read.

Sometimes when you select this content from chapter five.

When the link takes you to the farthest place.

The last page you read.

Or it could be the farthest record you have read.

It's equivalent to being disrupted.

This is indeed a very difficult problem to solve.

This is a very difficult problem to solve.

I think many users will complain about this matter as well.

Correct.

And this is something I must say.

User complaints at this time.

In my opinion

How to say

The developers are a bit wronged.

Because it means that users, on the one hand,

He also hopes that I will be on various different devices.

Keep the reading progress consistent.

But the problem is that reading progress is one.

Because in English it is called a moving target.

对吧

Right?

Especially like what you just mentioned.

Like that kind of textbook.

I often need to flip back and forth.

Many times the readers themselves

He didn't make a clear statement.

What is my reading progress?

But it is him.

Every time he opens this book.

The kind he hopes to see.

The most ideal stay is at that position.

That location might be different each time.

So in this case.

As for the developers' side

In fact, there isn't a completely reasonable one.

A way to design this function.

Right.

You can only try to guess.

Say he this.

Possibly through the duration of stay.

Or it could be the number of times he has reached this point.

Come to judge this point.

Should it really be recorded?

Or like the approach of Kindle.

就是在

It is at.

Above the progress bar.

Add a small marker.

Tell you say.

You just stayed in this place.

Then made some implications.

But from the user's perspective

That marker is actually not clear enough.

The first time I saw him.

This is a feature that has emerged in the past two years.

The first time I saw him.

Because he is actually that one.

There is a small dot on the progress bar.

Then on your progress bar

It is possible to have three or four at the same time.

Such small dots.

Actually, I'm not very sure.

What is the difference between them?

Yes.

This is actually really a.

Very difficult to understand things.

But from the user's perspective.

He also has this expectation.

A very normal thing.

So this is what you meant.

We must change our perspective.

But there may not necessarily be users.

It really is able to.

Understand from the developer's perspective.

This question.

I can only imagine how great the technical difficulty is.

Correct.

The few questions you mentioned just now.

Actually, they all belong to almost.

Many are almost unsolvable.

For example, there are some books.

For example, especially.

Books published in the 1970s

It may take some time.

There will be no Kindle version.

This question

There is also the issue of quick page turning.

Quick page turning issue

I just spoke halfway.

That is to say, why can't we put the following...

Enlarge the preview window a bit.

比如说

For example,

Let it be with the whole page.

Almost at least the entire screen.

80% that big.

This way, at least when I'm translating.

Then I will add it.

The slow pace from just now.

One half or one quarter

Design like speed scrapping.

Can allow me to see clearly.

What is there on each page?

I don't know why there isn't any.

Kindle在e-ink上面

Kindle is on e-ink.

Such practices already exist.

Yes.

So actually, the app

It still feels a bit like a second-class honor.

Sometimes the app

There will also be some newer features.

但是

But

But how should I put it?

It's just my own understanding.

It is the user of the Kindle e-book reader.

In fact, it is the real thing.

That kind of heavy user.

OK

OK

They will spend more and more time on them.

On this device.

And the mobile phone or let's say

Even the iPad.

It's all about short-term reading.

Something.

An industrial platform

There are too many distractions.

Maybe I'll just take a look a couple of times and then stop watching.

I don't need to put so much effort into doing things for you either.

是吧

Is that so?

You can't say that.

It's just that there is a difference in priority values.

比如说

For example.

For example, the sharing feature.

It may come first.

First arrive at the iOS or Android platform.

Then it will arrive at e-ink a little later.

Because e-ink is, after all, a platform that is isolated from the world.

But there are some special user experiences.

It may first appear on e-ink.

Then if it's good.

Transplant again to

Ported to various other mobile platforms.

好吧

Alright.

I think after we finish recording this episode with you.

I think it's still necessary to buy a hardware Kindle.

I no longer work there.

So it indirectly made an advertisement.

Correct.

I think it's because I spend a lot of time on Kindle myself.

我的iPad

My iPad.

Kindle App

The app I use the most on my iPad is the Kindle App.

So if you say there are some...

Wordwise

Especially like just now, like Wordwise.

Wordwise

Wordwise might be relatively less important to me.

But there are some other functions.

I would like to use it as soon as possible.

Hmm.

Yes.

So I think this is also very important.

It may align with my current view on the e-book industry.

We have previously seen many e-book providers attempting to innovate.

像Oyster

Like Oyster

Netflix

Oyster is somewhat like the Netflix of the e-book industry.

对吧

Right?

He wants to use this subscription method.

A month is 10 dollars, right?

It won't be too far off.

About this price.

You can look at all the books in his library as you like.

This approach.

This idea has certainly been had by many people many years ago.

Oyster

Oyster made what he produced a few years ago.

But he couldn't continue last year or the year before.

It just went bankrupt.

Then there are some other things.

Like that company called Inkling.

It is a startup project launched by a former employee of Apple's management team.

What they originally wanted to do was reform the textbook market.

Because we all know that American textbooks are very expensive.

Then they created electronic textbooks.

It can also be sold by chapters.

You can buy them one by one like this.

Then, he also made many innovations in this form of expression.

This company is now also

He did not go bankrupt.

However, he no longer produces electronic textbooks aimed at end consumers.

He is going to do one.

It is equivalent to becoming a term used domestically.

Become a B2B company.

He is oriented towards this company.

Aimed at enterprise users.

Become a startup like this.

So I often joke with my friends.

That means paying attention to user experience.

E-book providers that emphasize reading experience.

At least it's a startup company.

They all died.

So now what's left are the major players.

对吧

Right?

I think there are a few points that Luo Yiwen mentioned just now.

The reason why he is

It's not that...

He mentioned that the points all belong to...

People who truly care about reading e-books.

Areas that I would really like to improve.

And we all think he is one in the short term.

Or it could be something that is difficult to improve in the long term.

So I think the current landscape of e-books is actually...

It has basically stabilized.

This does not just refer to.

That is to say, there is.

There are already big players stuck in there.

It's not easy for small entrepreneurs to get in.

On the other hand, it also means.

Even if it's a big player.

He has a lot of resources.

A company with very abundant resources.

In the design of eBook software

Improvements in reading experience.

His pace will be relatively slow.

Moreover, many times his improvements are very limited.

On the other hand

For example, heavy readers like me.

Words of heavy users.

I can actually complain.

I won't complain about too many things anymore.

Because I know.

I really want to complain about those things.

Including things like what Luo Yiwen just complained about.

He has no way to improve.

On the other hand

Other things we care about.

Like the types of new books I just mentioned.

对吧

Right?

Is there enough books?

On this matter.

It has been continuously improving.

So like to me.

I am someone who often runs around everywhere.

Many times

New books are available as e-books for purchase.

I have already thanked heaven and earth.

对吧

Right?

The situation is now like this.

没错

That's right.

I think the form of e-books.

In the past few years.

There have also been significant changes, right?

Oyster

Oyster's subscription model, as you just mentioned.

Maybe they are no longer here recently.

Then, products like Kindle Unlimited.

又出来

Out again.

Scripty also has a subscription model.

Inkling

The Inkling you mentioned.

We before

I have also seen it.

I think its mode is a

Using the display method of a webpage.

Display the content of the book.

Its interaction is a bit better.

Recently quite popular.

Isn't it quite popular?

It will be mentioned soon.

那个Hardbound

That Hardbound.

It also uses a mode similar to slides.

Display the content of the book.

I think this is it.

E-books in the future

There may be breakthroughs.

Hardbound

Hardcover

I actually wrote about it in the member communication before.

I once had high hopes.

It's too early to say this now.

Because they are still in a state of...

It should belong to the Alpha phase.

But later I talked to their founder.

I have sent a letter.

I said how did you do this?

He sent me a template.

That template is a Keynote file.

Hardbound

That is to say, the Hardbound you see now.

Keynote

It's Apple's presentation software Keynote.

It actually is as you said.

It is a slide.

Displaying page by page.

I think this at least shows one thing.

就是说

That is to say.

At least they are acknowledged.

Perhaps the passage of time is not the best way.

We also hope that each page is something with fixed boundaries.

Then you can do various designs inside.

But on the other hand

I think what Hardbound is doing.

It’s a bit like bringing the present.

Popular on many forums in the country.

This type of multi-image article

Made it into a.

A thing that flips pages from left to right like this.

It’s just putting.

A multi-image flow is just one picture.

The following passage

A picture.

A piece of text

Keep lining up downwards.

It is just putting this text.

It could be written more concisely.

Then put this grammar.

This sentence structure.

Done more concisely.

More fastidious.

Then it was struck onto this diagram.

Then there is a

How to say it?

There is such a narrative logic.

But essentially speaking

It is an article with multiple images.

Yes.

So if we look at the Hardbound product

Through everything we talked about today.

As for the part from publication to release.

I think there are still many things to be done.

For example, how does it produce content?

Keynote PPT

It sounds like it will be using Keynote PPT.

就是PowerPoint中

It's in PowerPoint.

的话

if that's the case

It seems like a very unscalable approach.

对吧

Right?

But on the other hand

Countless people use PPT every day.

就是说

That is to say.

You said to let an ordinary white-collar worker

Making a PPT is easy.

It's still easier to write a book.

It's easy to write a purely text-based book.

It is very likely that the former is easier.

So in this sense

或许Hardbound

Maybe Hardbound

What did he say?

He has set his sights on it.

He caught hold of something.

Not even a single opportunity.

So if he can have a good one.

publishing tool

publishing tool

It is the development tool.

Let some ordinary authors

It is possible to achieve this.

And at the same time, he also provides a good platform.

Let these authors who generate production content.

If they go sell their own books.

Maybe he can.

Stirring up trouble or surviving.

Actually, for him, at the very beginning, his...

This is mentioned in a declaration similar to one's own.

He said, "Why do we have to do this?"

Because we know that everyone's phones store a lot of things.

Saved a lot of images.

First of all, you might.

Then there might be many more notes like this.

Then these things

He thinks it is a waste to stay in your phone.

You can put it.

It's like you have a lot of materials at home.

You can make it into a dish.

You can make a dish, right?

I believe they will eventually.

I believe that one will definitely create their own publishing tools.

It is not a publishing tool.

authoring tool

authoring tool

It is a tool used to make books.

Now he uses Keynote to do it.

It might just be a proof of concept or something like that.

I think what he hopes to do in the future is

I can really do it on the iPhone.

Write out a hardbound book.

It means that I will call upon.

Pictures in my photo library.

Then he can use a simple way.

It's a bit like Skitch, right?

像那个Evernote

Like that Evernote.

It's the subordinate Skitch.

He can let you add various texts to the picture.

Then add all sorts of chaotic arrows.

He made this a bit more advanced.

再sophisticated一点

A bit more sophisticated.

You can have some small animation effects.

Then perhaps, for example,

Integrate with the built-in map of this system.

In fact, for the author,

He is indeed able to do a lot more things now.

Hmm.

When it develops to that stage.

Actually, I think it's about the webpage.

It might just be something similar.

He’s about the same as a webpage.

In what sense?

It's just his interaction level.

The way he provides the content.

It's just when you are producing such an e-book.

In fact, what you have created.

It may not be particularly similar.

The e-book that we see today.

But it is more like a webpage that we see today.

Or it could be an app.

I don't think so.

I think to put it simply.

He really is just a multi-image flow.

When he said our mobile phone

When there are a lot of idle materials.

I believe the material he is referring to.

The vast majority refers to images.

Because very few people have completely no pictures on their phones.

Because everyone likes to take photos.

But not everyone has a lot of notes on their phone.

Then you say the webpage.

I actually think the webpage is 80%.

It is still a text-heavy thing.

Wasn't there before?

I remember which one is IA, right?

Information Architecture

Information Architecture

That page.

That person said.

He said web design.

但是97%的web design

But 97% of web design

都是typography design

It's all typography design.

So you mentioned it on the website.

I think carefully about the words.

Hardbound

But I think Hardbound.

What his founder had in mind was to say.

How do I save a lot of pictures?

Can put it.

Make it easier for people to use images on their phones.

Form a narrative.

There is an interesting aspect to this matter.

是Google Photos

It's Google Photos.

那个app

That app.

It is actually trying to accomplish this with AI.

It will help you curate a story.

Yes.

Moreover, I must admit in this regard.

Google Photos做的

Made by Google Photos.

非常的

Very much

Many times it is very uncanny.

You will be startled by it.

Then many times this is startling.

It's still surprising.

You will have a pleasant surprise after watching it.

For example, it suddenly takes away some of your...

Photos from a trip we took together.

Or it could be certain ones.

It will find in your photos.

Some connections that you generally wouldn't think of.

Moreover, there is a problem here.

Everyone has a lot of photos on their phones.

Moreover, it has crossed.

The time is also very long.

没错

That's right.

Human memory is short-term memory.

You have already forgotten.

But it can help you dig it out.

Google Photos

Google Photos can take its...

The connection between them has been uncovered.

I think this is very interesting.

Google Photos

I think Google Photos.

It has a particularly interesting feature.

It is particularly impressive.

A particularly powerful feature.

It can be classified by facial recognition.

Then sometimes its accuracy level

It really would scare me.

But when I say this, it scares me.

It's also like what you said, it's a kind of...

The kind of surprise that makes you smile knowingly.

Because my own experience is that

I have my current photos.

Then there is also the past.

A photo taken right after graduating from university.

I also have photos of when I was in elementary school.

It can actually help me.

Can be classified together.

Put it in a folder.

I think this is a remarkable technology.

Yes.

And sometimes

For example, you might have photos from singing karaoke.

Only a side profile.

And the lighting is also very poor.

But it can accurately recognize that it is you.

对吧

Right?

Yes, and also the group photo.

So many faces.

In the meantime, it can also recognize you.

I think this is very amazing.

好吧

Okay.
