Imaginary Bliss, denkbeeldige gelukzaligheid. Ik kijk met bewondering om me heen.

Imaginary Bliss. I look around in admiration.

Als ik omhoog kijk, zie ik sierlijke vormen, bogen, krullen en hoge gebouwen met ornamenten als oorbellen.

When I look up, I see graceful shapes, arches, curls, and tall buildings adorned with ornaments like earrings.

De hele stad lijkt wel versierd met sieraden en de zon schijnt in mijn ogen.

The whole city seems decorated with jewelry and the sun is shining in my eyes.

Alles is ineens bijzonder. Terug in Nederland romantiseer ik de stad, zon, mensen, taal

Everything is suddenly special. Back in the Netherlands, I romanticize the city, the sun, the people, the language.

en dit gevoel naar vrijheid en controle. Ik verlang naar het gevoel van vrijheid en controle.

and this feeling of freedom and control. I long for the feeling of freedom and control.

De inspiratie voor dit project is ontstaan tijdens een reis waar plaatselijke ornamenten een gevoel van verwondering hebben opgewekt.

The inspiration for this project arose during a trip where local ornaments evoked a sense of wonder.

In het werk zie je de schoonheid van het spontane samenkomen met waar geprobeerd is het materiaal te controleren.

In the work, you see the beauty of the spontaneous meeting with the attempt to control the material.

en jezelf af te vragen wat je wilt.

and to ask yourself what you want.

Wat een bewuste keuze is of wat misschien wel geluk is.

What a conscious choice it is or what perhaps is luck.

Ik daag mezelf uit te spelen met controle en gevoel.

I challenge myself to play with control and feeling.

Er ontstaat een gecontroleerde chaos.

A controlled chaos arises.

Hiermee wil ik denkbeeldige gelukzaligheid opwekken die ik tijdens mijn reis ook heb ervaren.

With this, I want to evoke imaginary bliss that I also experienced during my journey.

Ik ga dialoog aan met de eigenschappen van het materiaal en het maakproces.

I engage in dialogue with the properties of the material and the manufacturing process.

Ik bevraag de verhouding en reactie die de materialen tot elkaar hebben.

I question the relationship and response that the materials have towards each other.

In hoeverre heb je controle?

To what extent do you have control?

Of is er controle over mij?

Or is there control over me?

Heb je keuze over je gelukzaligheid of is het denkbeeldig?

Do you have a choice about your bliss or is it imaginary?

Het werk bestaat uit twee verschillende ambachten.

The work consists of two different crafts.

Het handvormen met keramiek en het metaalgieten in Brusselsaarde.

The hand forming with ceramics and the metal casting in Brussels earth.

De gekleurde elementen zijn gemaakt uit keramiek met een laagje glas dat heet glazuur.

The colored elements are made of ceramic with a layer of glass called glaze.

Het metaalgieten wordt gegoten in een bak met Brusselsaarde.

The metal casting is poured into a mold with Brussels earth.

Dit is een soort aarde dat hittebestendig is tegen vloeibare metalen met hoge temperaturen.

This is a type of earth that is heat resistant to liquid metals at high temperatures.

Waarin je verschillende vormen kan drukken.

Where you can press different shapes.

Voor deze vormen maak ik zelf tools.

I make my own tools for these shapes.

Ik druk de vormen in de bak samen met de keramiek.

I press the shapes into the mold together with the ceramics.

Dit is een intuïtief proces waarvan ik van tevoren het eindresultaat niet kan voorspellen.

This is an intuitive process where I cannot predict the final result in advance.

Ik giet het metaal over de vormen heen en geef me over aan het vloeibare metaal.

I pour the metal over the molds and surrender myself to the liquid metal.

Het keramiek reageert op de hitte van de vloeibare massa.

The ceramic reacts to the heat of the liquid mass.

Na het afkoelen van het metaal draai ik het metaal in een vloeibare massa.

After cooling the metal, I turn the metal into a liquid mass.

Daarna draai ik het werk om en maak ik deze schoon met verschillende gereedschappen.

Then I turn the work over and clean it with various tools.

Het eindresultaat is altijd super spannend en verrassend.

The final result is always super exciting and surprising.
