In deze eerste aflevering geef ik een globaal overzicht van fotogenieke gebieden binnen Friesland

In this first episode, I provide a general overview of photogenic areas within Friesland.

en daarin benoem ik enkele mooie locaties.

And in that, I mention some beautiful locations.

Dat mooie is uiteraard subjectief.

That beauty is, of course, subjective.

Deze indeling geeft enige ordening in de type locaties met een eigen specifiek karakter.

This classification provides some organization among the types of locations with their own specific character.

People from outside the province often have the idea that Friesland-Lauten consists of vast green pastures.

met zwart-wit geflekte koeien en hier en daar een dorp met een karakteristieke kerktoren.

Niets is minder waar.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Het landschap is zeer divers en het opent dus ook mogelijkheden voor het maken van mooie foto's.

The landscape is very diverse, which also opens up opportunities for taking beautiful photos.

Ik zie voor mezelf als inwoner van Friesland een aantal gebieden die onderscheidend zijn.

I see several distinguishing areas for myself as a resident of Friesland.

Ik zal ze nu doornemen.

Als eerste.

As first.

Bekend zijn natuurlijk de Wadden-eilanden.

The Wadden Islands are of course well-known.

De Noordzeekant is totaal verschillend van de Waddenkant.

The North Sea side is completely different from the Wadden side.

Stranden aan de Noordzee dijken aan de andere kant.

Beaches on the North Sea, dikes on the other side.

Niet alleen de kust is anders, ook zijn er verschillen in vogels die er foerageren.

Not only is the coast different, there are also differences in the birds that forage there.

Tussen de Wadden-eilanden en onderling zijn ook verschillen in landschap en natuurgebieden.

Between the Wadden Islands and among themselves, there are also differences in landscape and nature areas.

Geen eiland is hetzelfde.

No island is the same.

Uiteraard zijn wel op alle eilanden duinen die mooie plaatjes kunnen opleveren.

Of course, there are dunes on all the islands that can create beautiful pictures.

Een ander gebied, ook grenzend aan zee.

Maar qua karakter echt anders, is de kust.

But in terms of character, the coast is really different.

Aan de Noordkant van Friesland is het de Waddenkust.

On the north side of Friesland is the Wadden coast.

Aan de Zuidwestkant is het IJsselmeer.

On the southwest side is the IJsselmeer.

Het karakter van het landschap is verschillend tussen beide kustgebieden, uiteraard ook de flora en fauna.

The character of the landscape is different between the two coastal areas, as is the flora and fauna.

De Waddenkust begint bij het Lauwersmeer.

The Wadden coast begins at the Lauwersmeer.

Een bekende fotogenieke plaats is Moddergat.

A well-known photogenic place is Moddergat.

Interessant zijn de dijken en landaanwinningspaaltjes.

The dikes and land reclamation markers are interesting.

Tot aan de Westhoek kunnen prachtige foto's gemaakt worden.

Beautiful photos can be taken all the way to the Westhoek.

Zeker bij zonsondergang.

Certainly at sunset.

Halverwege ligt Holward waar de boot vertrekt naar Ameland.

Halfway lies Holward where the boat departs for Ameland.

Prachtig om foto's te maken op de dijk.

Beautiful to take photos on the dike.

Vooral bij laag water en als de zon ondergaat.

Especially at low tide and when the sun sets.

Al veel fotografen hebben hier hun plaatjes geschoten.

Een derde gebied.

A third area.

De IJsselmeerkust heeft een ander karakter en veel fotogenieke plaatjes kunnen gemaakt worden van de prachtige plaatsen aan en bij de kust.

The IJsselmeer coast has a different character and many photogenic pictures can be taken of the beautiful places along and near the coast.

Zoals Makkum en Hindelopen.

Like Makkum and Hindelopen.

In Friesland staat dit gebied bekend als de Zuidkust.

In Friesland, this area is known as the South Coast.

De Zuidwesthoek.

The Southwest Corner.

Niet alleen aan de kust maar zeker in de binnenlanden zijn hier prachtige natuurgebieden.

Not only along the coast, but certainly inland, there are beautiful natural areas here.

Friesland staat ook bekend om zijn meren.

Friesland is also known for its lakes.

In de Zuidwesthoek zijn bij het Slotermeer ook enkele mooie locaties.

In the southwest corner, there are also some beautiful locations near the Slotermeer.

Aan de oostkant van Friesland zijn grofweg een tweetal gebieden te onderscheiden.

On the eastern side of Friesland, roughly two areas can be distinguished.

Noordelijk zijn de bekende staten te vinden zoals Dekemerstaten.

To the north, the well-known states can be found, such as the Dekemer states.

Statens, landgoeden met huizen of buitenhuizen van de adellijken.

States, estates with houses or country houses of the nobility.

Hier zijn ook nu nog prachtige lanen met mooie bloemen en planten te vinden.

Here you can still find beautiful avenues with nice flowers and plants.

Verder oostelijk zijn interessante locaties als de Houtwielen en de Hege Bulten.

Further east are interesting locations such as the Houtwielen and the Hege Bulten.

Dit zijn typische coulissenlandschappen met prachtige natuur.

These are typical curtain landscapes with beautiful nature.

Verder zuidelijk verandert het landschap.

Further south, the landscape changes.

Hier zijn verschillende bossen en heidevelden.

Here are various forests and heathlands.

Een bekende plaats is Bakkafeen.

A well-known place is Bakkafeen.

Enkele natuurgebieden zijn internationaal bekend, maar ook beschermd en daardoor beperkt toegankelijk.

Some nature areas are internationally known, but also protected and therefore limited in accessibility.

Nationaal park Aldervenen bij de plaats Enewaard in het midden van Friesland is daar één van.

Aldervenen National Park near the village of Enewaard in the middle of Friesland is one of them.

Iets zuidelijker daarvan is bij het dorp Tjallebert een wetland, een moerasgebied van laagveen.

Slightly to the south of that, near the village of Tjallebert, is a wetland, a marshy area of fen peat.

Het hele jaar door zijn hier prachtige foto's te maken.

Friesland is bekend op zijn elf steden.

Friesland is known for its eleven cities.

De binnensteden hebben vaak schilderachtige huizen en straatjes.

The city centers often have picturesque houses and streets.

Hoewel dat soms even zoek is.

Although that can sometimes be a bit hard to find.

Je waant je dan in de middeleeuwen.

You feel as if you are in the Middle Ages.

Alle elf steden hebben ook een fontein in het centrum.

All eleven cities also have a fountain in the center.

Deze zijn gebouwd in het kader van culturele hoofdstad 2018.

Waarschijnlijk de meest bekende is die voor het station van Leeuwarden met de titel Love van de beroemde kunstenaar Jaume Plensa.

Naast de elf steden heeft de provincie trouwens ook prachtige dorpjes.

In addition to the eleven cities, the province also has beautiful villages.

Ten slotte wil ik nog noemen de zogenaamde terpen.

Finally, I would like to mention the so-called terps.

In vroege tijden had ook Friesland te maken met overstromingen.

In early times, Friesland also dealt with floods.

Dit zijn kunstmatige ophogingen.

These are artificial elevations.

Bij hoog water konden de bewoners hier naartoe gaan in afwachting van het dalen van de waterspiegel.

Er is in Friesland zelfs een speciale terpenroute voor toeristen.

There is even a special terp route for tourists in Friesland.

Per auto of fiets natuurlijk zijn de belangrijkste nog bewaard gebleven terpen te bezichtigen.
