Welkom bij de Prikkelbare Darmen podcast.
Welcome to the Irritable Bowels podcast.
Ik ben Carolien, PDS-diëtiste en ervaringsdeskundige.
I am Carolien, IBS dietitian and expert by experience.
With this podcast, I aim to break the loneliness and taboos surrounding irritable bowel syndrome.
You are certainly not alone, and you do not have to accept that you will always experience digestive issues.
I will take you through what you can do and how we can ease life with IBS.
Welkom!
Welcome!
Today's recording will take place at a different location.
I am in the practice space of Myrthe Romboud.
Myrthe zit hier naast mij.
Myrthe is sitting next to me.
Myrthe heb ik anderhalf jaar geleden leren kennen.
I met Myrthe a year and a half ago.
I find her a very unique, very calm person.
I am very happy that she wanted to do today's recording with me.
So I will briefly introduce you to Myrthe.
Hey Myrthe, can you explain to the listeners who you are and what you do?
Very gladly, thank you for the invitation as well.
I am Myrthe Romboud, and I am currently going through life, so to speak, or through work life as an entrepreneur psychologist.
But by training, I am a work and organizational psychologist.
That is a specific field of study in psychology that prepares you to apply psychology in the business sector.
I have specialized in everything that changes.
Met stress, burn-out, ontspanning te maken heeft.
Related to stress, burnout, relaxation.
And besides that, I live in Aflichem, I am 30 years old, and I am a birdwatcher.
Ja, klopt, klopt.
Yes, that's right, right.
Dat is ook wel een unieke hobby.
That is indeed a unique hobby.
But I think that's a really nice way to truly relax and completely get out of your head.
Ja, absoluut.
Yes, absolutely.
I have also started to make the walks a bit more interactive.
And just because that really always is a moment of wonder and relaxation in the queue.
Ja, ik vind het zalig.
Yes, I find it delightful.
Ja.
Yes.
Now, Myrthe is very busy relaxing, managing stress, and so on.
That's why she will also give her some tips today.
Maar je vertelde, je bent nu ondernemerspsycholoog.
But you mentioned, you are now an entrepreneurial psychologist.
Wat kunnen we daarvan verwachten?
What can we expect from that?
Yes, so it is actually the case that until now I have mainly focused on the topics of stress and how I can primarily learn to deal with stress.
And how do I especially learn to deal with stress, how do I teach my body to calm down by itself?
That is actually what I built my entire offering on.
Daar heb ik mij in verdiept.
I have delved into that.
And so far, that has been accessible to everyone, so to speak.
So I work a lot one-on-one.
But I've started to notice that there is actually a lot that people can do at home, by themselves.
And that was also my approach to start working with audios.
Dus ik heb al mijn technieken opgenomen.
So I have recorded all my techniques.
En ik werk nu meer en meer op.
And I am now working more and more.
With everyone, entrepreneur or not, with those audios.
So people can really get started at home to learn to relax themselves.
And I have decided to offer my one-on-one program, where I will really work with people for several months,
to see, okay, how can I really weave that calmness and relaxation into my life.
That I will really focus the offer on entrepreneurs.
Oh, heel interessant.
Oh, very interesting.
Is that also the main question that people, and especially entrepreneurs, have?
Coming to you to learn to relax?
Ja, eigenlijk wel. Op een bepaalde manier wel.
Yes, actually. In a certain way, yes.
Maar dat kan heel breed zijn.
But that can be very broad.
It could be that people actually have physical stress complaints, for example.
Heel veel rugpijn of hoofdpijn.
A lot of back pain or headaches. That it hinders them from leading a relaxed life.
Een ontspannen werkleven leiden.
Leading a relaxed work life.
But it could be that people are dealing with deeper underlying questions.
Or for example noticing that they would like their work life to be different.
Noticing that they are falling too much into people-pleasing behavior.
So actually, there is a whole range of questions that people can come up with.
But very often it ultimately comes down to, I want to find a certain form of peace.
In mijn hoofd en in mijn lichaam.
In my head and in my body.
Ja.
Yes. I mainly hear peace. How would you actually describe peace to others?
Of wat betekent rust voor jou?
And what does peace mean to you?
Well, I actually see that in two phases.
And that is also the way I work.
Initially, I notice that people often need true calming.
Echt hun zenuwstelsel tot rust brengen.
Really calming their nervous system down.
Then it really is about learning those tricks.
How can I use my body like this, utilize it?
How can I learn to use my breathing, my muscle tension, but also my thoughts to communicate with my body?
It's okay, it's safe, just relax.
So that the nervous system can shift from that active mode, stress mode, to that resting mode.
For me, that's something we should actually be learning in elementary school, how to do that.
But that is the first phase of calm for me.
And the second is really that deeper layer.
Satisfaction with who you are, how you approach life.
Or figuring out who you are, what you need, and living accordingly.
And therefore not so hurried through life anymore, but really from a relaxed mode.
I think you heard that perfectly.
That's also something, as you already said, that you should actually learn from elementary school.
But that's something a lot of people don't think about anymore, I think.
I think you can also feel that in practice, that it requires effort.
Ja.
Yes.
Very often it only comes after a certain dip.
Een burn-out, een depressie.
A burn-out, a depression.
Bepaalde ingrijpende levensgebeurtenissen.
Certain significant life events.
That someone really asks themselves, oh, I'm not functioning like I used to.
Dingen vragen mij ineens veel meer energie.
Things suddenly require much more energy from me.
Het loopt hier niet goed.
Things are not going well here.
Wat moet ik daaraan doen?
What should I do about that?
And then they come to me, for example.
So it is often only after such a big shock or a dip that people say, I'm going to take that on now.
But then a world opens up for them.
Van oké.
Of okay.
Oké.
Okay.
Amai.
Wow.
Ik ben gewoon een ander persoon nu.
I am just a different person now.
Ja.
Yes.
I think that many people do not realize the importance of creating rest and structure for themselves.
Because I work with people with irritable bowel syndrome.
De luisteraar ook.
The listener too.
Probably has sensitive intestines or knows someone with irritable bowel syndrome.
And also there, they actually have a lot of digestive complaints.
That also has a very big impact on their lives.
And together we sometimes figure things out with clients.
Yes, which puzzle pieces are all playing a role?
And then the aspect of stress management, relaxation, and building in rest really comes to the forefront.
Ja.
Yes.
So I suspect that you also regularly see people with digestive complaints.
Klopt.
Correct.
Absoluut.
Absolutely.
Actually, digestive complaints are often one of the first issues that arise.
When I ask them what they are struggling with?
Yes, those are very often complaints that simply affect everyone.
And sometimes it's more the stomach, rather than the intestines.
Maar dus effectief heel vaak een klacht.
But indeed often a complaint.
And sometimes that is something that has been added very recently.
Really as a sign of, and now I have to do something about it.
But sometimes people have been struggling with it for years.
Yes, I notice that in myself in practice as well.
Mensen sukkelen soms al jaren met spijsverteringsklachten.
People sometimes struggle with digestive problems for years.
Thinking that there is nothing to be done about it.
Of hebben nog maar één iets geprobeerd.
Or they have only tried one thing.
En geven het dan op.
And then they give up.
Or simply do not know that there are multiple treatment options or possibilities.
Om daarvan vanaf te geraken.
To get away from that.
Terwijl het is zo ambetant.
While it is so annoying.
We eten constant.
We are constantly eating.
So if you have problems with that every time.
Come on, it really is something effective to tackle.
En gelukkig kan dat ook.
And fortunately, that can happen too.
Ja, zeker.
Yes, certainly.
Zeker.
Sure.
Helemaal.
Absolutely.
But I do find it remarkable that you notice that with a lot of people, digestion does seem to be a bit off.
Echt wel.
Really.
Is that something that customers indicate themselves to you?
Or should you actually take a bit of that out as well?
Of benoemen?
Or to name?
Or inquire if they have any issues with that?
Most of the time there is a certain openness about that.
Misschien niet in detail bepaalde dingen.
Maybe not certain things in detail.
But they will say about my stomach that I tend to have issues with it more quickly.
Of darmen.
Or intestines.
Ja, ze durven dat wel benoemen.
Yes, they dare to name that.
I recently had someone who I am now coaching using the audio recordings.
And the mentioned one, I actually haven't had a permanent seat for years.
I thought that was impressive that she daringly told me that so bluntly.
And she said yes, now that I have practiced with those audios.
Because I usually ask people to practice for three weeks.
And then we'll just check how that goes.
And she said that for the first year I have normal bowel movements again.
En ik dacht wauw.
And I thought wow.
One, really cool that you put it so honestly.
And secondly, blessed that it also has so much impact.
Op de werking van jouw darmen.
On the function of your intestines.
Because that is incredibly important for things to go smoothly.
Certainly, that is really a win-win on multiple levels.
And so you can see what the impact of stress actually is on your body.
En de klachten die daarbij komen.
And the complaints that come with it.
Because a lot of people don't realize that they are sometimes so tense.
And as a result, for example, they are simply conceived as pure.
Omdat ze niet luisteren naar hun lichaam.
Because they do not listen to their body.
Geen structuur.
No structure.
In hun dag steken, maaltijden overslaan misschien.
Spending their day, maybe skipping meals.
Of gewoon die toiletaandrang volledig negeren.
Or simply ignore that urge to use the toilet completely.
And the fact that they can take a moment to relax.
Luisteren naar de signalen van hun lichaam.
Listening to the signals of their body.
Hoe belangrijk dat is op meerdere vlakken.
How important that is on multiple levels.
Absoluut.
Absolutely.
Yes, I would actually say that is almost the core of what I do.
Leer naar die signalen te luisteren.
Learn to listen to those signals.
Leer die te herkennen.
Learn to recognize that.
Learn to accept that you are different from someone else.
So comparing ourselves in that regard often doesn't lead us anywhere.
Ja, leer wat jouw persoonlijke handleiding is.
Yes, learn what your personal manual is.
En hoe je daarnaar kan leven.
And how you can live according to that.
That is really what I find the most important: to be able to support people.
I find it perfect that you use the term manual.
Because that's how you see your manual.
Iedere mens heeft iets anders nodig.
Every person needs something different.
Needs other things that work very well for his or her body.
And so actually looking for what works positively.
En daar ook.
And there too.
Ja, dat te volgen.
Yes, I understand that.
En een handleiding ook.
And a manual too.
Sommigen gebruiken die niet.
Some do not use that.
Lezen die niet.
They don't read that.
And then it sometimes results in problems.
So it is also very important to take a look at that.
And to look at it like, okay, what can I adjust?
Welke stappen moet ik zetten?
What steps should I take?
Wat doe ik best eerst?
What should I do first?
Wat doe ik best als volgende?
What is best for me to do next?
Om eigenlijk rust te creëren.
To actually create peace.
Jouw lichaam goed te laten werken.
To make your body work well.
Helemaal waar.
Absolutely true.
Die handleiding.
That manual.
Or actually the steps and the tools that you actually provide.
Komt dat in die audio?
Does that come in the audio?
De audio cursus?
The audio course?
Ook het audio coaching aan bod?
Is audio coaching also covered?
Ja.
Yes.
Ja, eigenlijk heb ik getracht.
Yes, actually I have tried.
En volgens mij is dat gelukt.
And in my opinion, that has succeeded.
En volgens mijn klanten toch ook.
And according to my clients, that is also the case.
To go through a process that you would undertake with a relaxation therapist.
So a relaxation therapist is a therapist who helps you learn to relax.
Waarmee je kan oefenen.
With which you can practice.
And then actually take your own tools along.
With which you can carry on for the rest of your life.
Because stress sensitivity is usually not something temporary.
Something that you will still be confronted with.
And so I have actually included everything in that audio package that you would expect from a relaxation therapist.
of in ieder geval bij mij in een-op-een-therapie zou doorlopen.
or at least with me in one-on-one therapy would continue.
Dus zowel verschillende technieken.
So, both different techniques.
Lange, korte.
Long, short.
Voor alle verschillende situaties.
For all the different situations.
And then also a workbook that gives you some insight into.
How can I anchor that in my life now?
Because it's very nice to be able to listen to a nice audio from time to time.
Just like you can find certain audios on YouTube.
Maar weten welke audio wanneer.
But knowing which audio at what time.
And how you actually incorporate that into your routine.
Dat is uiteindelijk de grootste transformatie.
That is ultimately the biggest transformation.
That's right, because you can have the tools.
Maar je moet ze effectief gaan implementeren.
But you have to actually start implementing them.
En delen laten uitmaken van jouw leven.
And let parts be a part of your life.
You just said that I focus on relaxing.
Mensen leren ontspannen.
People learn to relax.
I think that's something very difficult.
That very few people know how to relax.
Ja, klopt.
Yes, that's right.
I have heard it several times over the past few years.
Ik kan niet ontspannen.
I can't relax.
Ik weet niet hoe ik moet ontspannen.
I don't know how to relax.
Of ik kan niet meer ontspannen.
Or I can't relax anymore.
Vooral die meer zit daar vaak bij.
Especially that one often sits there.
Ja, klopt.
Yes, that's right.
And in that relaxation therapy, there are specific exercises that you...
Is there, for example, one exercise that you mention to everyone?
Ademhalen.
Breathing.
Ademhalingsoefeningen zullen er altijd in zitten.
Breathing exercises will always be included.
Die zijn vaak ook de basis.
They are often the foundation as well.
En waarom?
And why?
Ja, onze adem is eigenlijk superbelangrijk.
Yes, our breath is actually super important.
It is something we naturally do constantly.
Maar heel vaak onbewust.
But very often unconsciously.
And something that also very much shows how we are doing.
So I often say our breathing is our mirror.
And by consciously managing your breathing...
You can already listen much better to those signal leaders.
So you can get a lot out of that.
And then it is actually the fastest way to calm yourself down.
Dus ademhaling gaat altijd een centrale rol spelen.
So breathing will always play a central role.
Ideaal.
Ideal.
Because those breathing exercises are something I always recommend to nearly every client.
Omdat dat een heel belangrijke tool is.
Because that is a very important tool.
That seems like something airy-fairy to a lot of people.
But it is about calming the body down.
That is actually going to have a very big impact.
Because those who have irritable bowel syndrome also know about...
You are going to have a lot of unsafe situations.
Your intestines have acted up out of nowhere once before.
You might have had to sprint to the bathroom at some point.
And it is characteristic of irritable bowel syndrome.
That they receive more signals from those intestines to the brain.
Waardoor zij dus ook meer voelen.
Causing them to feel more.
Zij gaan meer pijn voelen.
They will feel more pain.
Zij gaan die druk in die darmen voelen.
They will feel that pressure in their intestines.
And because more stimuli are reaching the brain.
Gaan die hersenen daar eigenlijk foutief over reageren.
Are those brains going to respond incorrectly to that?
Because that feels like an unsafe situation.
Een stressvolle situatie.
A stressful situation.
But it may have already happened that things occurred in the past.
Niet op tijd een toilet geraken.
Not being able to reach a toilet in time.
Een ongelukje.
An accident.
En natuurlijk versterkt dat dat gevoel.
And of course, that reinforces that feeling.
Because then you will feel something in those intestines.
And will you experience even more stress around that?
And then those brains are going to send incorrect signals again.
Zoals een reactie op stress.
Like a response to stress.
And so that's how it goes with that brain-gut connection.
Will be very strongly activated in people with irritable bowel syndrome.
And that is something that people very often do not think about.
Because they are actually going to experience an unsafe situation.
And they will think I want to avoid that.
And breathing exercises are a great tool for that.
Omdat natuurlijk met ademhalingsoefeningen.
Because of course with breathing exercises.
Je gaat eigenlijk ontspannen.
You are actually going to relax.
Jouw lichaam tot rust brengen.
Bring your body to rest.
Give your body the signal that you are safe.
And that will ensure that you can weaken that brain-gut connection.
That you no longer experience such a stressful experience around there.
Absoluut.
Absolutely.
Ja, dat heb je mooi gezegd.
Yes, you said that beautifully.
Ja, keibelangrijk.
Yes, super important.
In plaats van te vermijden.
Instead of avoiding.
Toch zaken er weer aan gaan.
Yet to get things going again.
But to have the tools to calm yourself down in that situation.
Waardoor dat je dan die as.
Which means that you then have that axis.
Die hersendarmas eigenlijk.
Those brain intestines actually.
Weer kan een beetje normaliseren.
Weather can normalize a bit.
Ja, exact.
Yes, exactly.
Het is ook de tools.
It is also the tools.
Mensen moeten de tools hebben.
People need to have the tools.
It is very important that you also prepare for different situations.
Verschillende oefeningen hebt.
You have various exercises.
So I think you should do that in your guidance as well.
Ook een heel aanbod aan oefeningen meegeeft.
It also provides a wide range of exercises.
Voor elke situatie.
For every situation.
Yes, I should count them again.
Maar het zijn er een heleboel.
But there are a whole lot of them.
And that is indeed with the intention of letting people experiment.
Wat werkt voor mij?
What works for me?
Waar heb ik een voorkeur bij?
Where do I have a preference?
Wat blijft er hangen?
What sticks around?
En dan ook.
And then also.
Zeg ik altijd.
I always say that.
Zet het gerust naar je hand.
Feel free to make it your own.
Die verschillende technieken.
Those different techniques.
Het is echt wat inspiratie opdoen.
It's really about getting some inspiration.
Mee oefenen.
Practice with it.
And it's perfectly okay to keep practicing with audio.
En sommige mensen zeggen.
And some people say.
Ja, ik heb het mijn eigen gemaakt.
Yes, I made it my own.
En ik heb geen audio meer nodig.
And I no longer need audio.
Beide zijn helemaal oké.
Both are completely fine.
But it is especially important that you can sense yourself.
Ja, wat past er hier bij mij?
Yes, what suits me here?
En wat verkies ik in welke situatie?
And what do I prefer in which situation?
Exact.
Exact.
Zoeken wat voor jou werkt.
Finding what works for you.
Welke oefening aanleunt bij hoe jij.
Which exercise relates to how you.
Als persoon bent.
As a person.
En wat je ziet zitten.
And what you see sitting.
Ja.
Yes.
It's much better that you start working on exercises that you feel good about.
Dan dat je een oefening gaat doen.
Then you are going to do an exercise.
Die totaal niet bij jou past.
That doesn't suit you at all.
Eén keer doet.
One time does.
And never resort to other exercises again.
Ja.
Yes.
Klopt.
That's right.
Ja.
Yes.
Want sommige mensen denken ook.
Because some people think too.
Ik krijg wel wat weerstand er soms.
I do encounter some resistance sometimes.
Mensen denken.
People think.
Ja.
Yes.
Ik heb één op één begeleiding nodig.
I need one-on-one guidance.
Those audios are not going to work for me.
Of dat is niet voldoende.
Or that is not enough.
Or what can you achieve now with a breathing exercise?
Letterlijk.
Literally.
Die weerstand heb ik al gekregen.
I have already received that resistance.
Dat gaat toch niet alles veranderen.
That isn't going to change everything.
En uiteraard.
And of course.
Is het een breder plaatje.
Is it a broader picture?
And if you don't work on the causes of the stress.
Dan is een ademhalingsoefening een pleister.
Then a breathing exercise is a band-aid.
Maar het is wel een belangrijk puzzelstuk.
But it is an important piece of the puzzle.
You also use the metaphor of the puzzle pieces.
Het is echt een belangrijk puzzelstuk.
It is really an important piece of the puzzle.
And that same person who gave me that resistance.
Bijvoorbeeld.
For example.
Die heeft dan drie weken.
That one has three weeks then.
Met de oefeningen geoefend.
Practiced with the exercises.
En die had effectief resultaat.
And that had an effective result.
Dus soms is het ook.
So sometimes it is too.
Even gewoon.
Just plain.
Het uitproberen.
Trying it out.
En daar ligt het hem vaak.
And that's often where the problem lies.
Het doen.
Do it.
En het echt inbouwen in je dag.
And really incorporating it into your day.
Het een kans geven.
Give it a chance.
En dan merken.
And then notice.
Amai.
Wow.
Wat een verschil.
What a difference.
En vanuit die rust.
And from that calm.
Dat je dan ervaart.
That you then experience.
Met inderdaad vaak.
Indeed, often.
Vrij simpele technieken.
Fairly simple techniques.
Maar weten wanneer.
But know when.
Dat je welke techniek toepast.
That you apply whichever technique.
Het effectief doen.
To do it effectively.
En dan merken.
And then notice.
Amai.
Wow.
Mijn brain fog is weg.
My brain fog is gone.
Mijn spijsvertering doet beter.
My digestion is doing better.
Ik heb minder rugpijn.
I have less back pain.
Al mijn klachten zakken.
All my complaints subside.
Ik kan helder nadenken.
I can think clearly.
En nu kan ik echt.
And now I can really.
Oorzaken aanpakken.
Tackling causes.
Knopen doorhakken.
Making decisions.
Mijn leven anders inrichten.
Reorganizing my life.
Maar met een heel lijf.
But with a whole body.
Zenuwstofsel.
Nervous tissue.
Brein.
Brain.
Alles onder spanning.
Everything under tension.
Kun je gewoon niet verder.
You just can't go on.
Dus je hebt.
So you have.
Eerst.
First.
Die.
That.
Klaarblijkelijk.
Apparently.
Simpele dingen te doen.
Simple things to do.
En dan.
And then.
Echt.
Really.
Applying simple things to achieve real change.
Ja.
Yes.
And sometimes it’s really small things that can make a very big difference.
Ja.
Yes.
But those are also things that you need to give some time.
And that you actually need to apply to experience the difference.
Ja.
Yes.
I hear that very often with clients too, that I have already made adjustments, but it hasn't
niet gewerkt.
did not work.
It may have been applied for insufficient time or, you have only focused on one thing while
there are other factors all playing a role.
En je moet altijd alles openmaken.
And you always have to open everything.
staan voor alles een kans te geven
stand for giving everything a chance
en te kijken wat voor jou werkt.
and to see what works for you.
Want die ademhalingsoefeningen, ook
Because those breathing exercises, too.
als mensen daarmee aan de slag gaan,
when people start working on it,
hoeveel tijd moeten ze dat ongeveer
how much time do they need for that approximately
geven voor een verschil te merken?
to give to make a difference?
Dat is een goede vraag.
That is a good question.
Ja, ik zeg het in het
Yes, I say it in the
algemeen werk ik meestal met drie weken.
In general, I usually work with three weeks.
Het zou mij niet verbazen dat mensen
It wouldn't surprise me if people
al sneller impact merken.
noticing impact sooner.
In ieder geval, de meeste mensen
In any case, most people
merken al impact tijdens
notice any impact during
de oefening. Dus eigenlijk direct.
the exercise. So actually directly.
And what they then notice is that their
hartslag vertraagt,
heart rate slows down,
dat ze meer bewust worden van hun
that they become more aware of their
lichaam, dat ze zich in het algemeen
body, that they generally
lichter, rustiger voelen.
feel lighter, feel calmer.
Dus eigenlijk dat effect heb je
So actually that's the effect you have.
meestal meteen.
usually immediately.
But if you then also...
dagelijks doet, bijvoorbeeld
daily does, for example
Twice a day is often a guideline.
die ik meegeef, en dat oefen je
that I give you, and you practice it
bijvoorbeeld twee à drie weken,
for example, two to three weeks,
dan ga je ook echt
then you're really going
doorheen heel je dag
throughout your entire day
en je nacht, ook niet onbelangrijk,
and your night, also not unimportant,
ook heel veel impact op de slaap
also a great impact on sleep
van die oefeningen, dan ga je die
from those exercises, then you will do those
impact ook gaan merken.
will also notice the impact.
Yes, I think it's very good that you bring it up.
dat je tijd moet geven
that you need to give time
and that you have to do it several times a day
om daar eigenlijk langdurige impact
to actually have a long-term impact there
van te hebben. Het moet ook wel
to have. It must also be
deel van die routine worden. Het moet iets
become part of that routine. It should be something
zijn dat je kan inbouwen,
that you can build in,
maar het moet ook niet lang duren.
but it shouldn't take too long either.
Nee, exact.
No, exactly.
Is there anywhere something about a timing that you say,
dan, een ademhalingsoefening of een oefening
then, a breathing exercise or an exercise
moet x aantal minuutjes duren
must last x number of minutes
to have the best effect throughout
je dag?
your day?
Ik ben daar weinig strikt in
I am not very strict about that.
eigenlijk. Dus
actually. So
er zijn zeker
there are certainly
daar richtlijnen voor, en er zijn ook
there are guidelines for that, and there are also
bij ademhalingsoefeningen
during breathing exercises
oefeningen waarbij je telt,
exercises where you count,
for example, so you can definitely do that and
een bepaalde structuur inbrengen, maar wat ik
introduce a certain structure, but what I
meestal ga doen is
usually going to do is
verschillende opties aanbieden,
offering different options,
so that people can feel for themselves, what was done
het beste voor mij? Ben ik iemand die graag
the best for me? Am I someone who likes
telt, of ga ik meer op gevoel?
Does it count, or am I going more by feeling?
Doe ik dat 30 seconden
I do that for 30 seconds.
een paar keer per dag,
a few times a day,
of reken ik liever 5 à 10
or I prefer to count 5 to 10
minutes out, that I take a little longer
doe?
What do I do? So I leave that very much up to the person.
liggen eigenlijk.
actually lying.
But that is very good, because that is also looking from.
wat werkt voor die persoon het beste?
What works best for that person?
Ja. Wat ik ook wel heel
Yes. What I also find very...
vaak zie bij mijn cliënten met BDS,
I often see in my clients with BDS,
is dat zij eigenlijk wel die ademhalingsoefeningen
Is it that they actually do those breathing exercises?
willen gaan toepassen, maar
want to apply, but
actually, to apply that only at the moment,
dat er een stresssituatie is,
that there is a stressful situation,
waardoor ze eigenlijk
resulting in them actually
minder effect ervaren, of
experience less effect, or
denken dat zoiets niet werkt.
thinking that such a thing doesn't work.
Maar het is vooral heel belangrijk
But it is especially very important.
dat je daar eigenlijk regelmaat in bouwt,
that you actually build regularity into it,
that you actually anticipate those stressful situations.
Klopt dat?
Is that correct?
Ja.
Yes.
And that regularity is also there because you
de techniek dan gaat eigenmaken.
the technique will then become proprietary.
Dus als je dat
So if you do that
op rustige momenten al geoefend hebt,
have practiced during quiet moments,
dan gaat dat gewoon veel vlotter
then it just goes much smoother
lukken als je in paniek bent.
succeed when you are in a panic.
Sometimes that question, of yes, I had a
paniekaanval, maar het is mij niet gelukt
panic attack, but I didn't succeed
to then do that exercise, and I understand that,
because if that is still something very new,
dan ga je zeker in paniek
then you'll definitely panic
er niet aan denken, of niet weten
not think of it, or not know
hoe je eraan moet beginnen. Terwijl als
how to get started. While if
it is something that you do daily anyway
een paar keer doet, dan is
a few times does, then is
het zo met een naturel
so with a naturalness
dat het zelfs in de moeilijkste situaties,
that even in the most difficult situations,
zoals bij paniek of angst,
such as in panic or fear,
ook als vanzelf gaat.
also if it happens naturally.
Ja, exact.
Yes, exactly.
Because I hear very often from my clients,
dat ze bijvoorbeeld al stressvolle situaties
that they already stressful situations
hebben meegemaakt op de trein.
experienced on the train.
That they feel those intestines all at once.
borrelen, dat ze weten van
socializing, that they are aware of
Oh, I might even get diarrhea here.
having a lot of ups and downs, and they actually go a lot
stress ervaren. En daar komt
experiencing stress. And there comes
de hart- en darmconnectie, speelt daar ook
the heart and gut connection is also at play there
een rol. En meestal geef ik hun
a role. And most of the time I give them
als tip van, doe die ademhalingsoefeningen,
as a tip, do those breathing exercises,
doe die
do that
een tiental keer, allee, korte
a handful of times, well, short
breathing exercises, then you do it in a minute,
before you leave, when you are on a platform
staat, als je in de trein zit,
is, when you are on the train,
om eigenlijk meermaals het signaal te geven
to actually give the signal multiple times
van, je bent veilig, je ontspant.
"You're safe, you're relaxing."
En voor mij is het altijd heel
And for me, it has always been very
important that they actually focus on that long one
uitademhaling. Omdat daar
exhalation. Because there
het eigenlijk tot rustbrengen zit,
it actually comes down to calming down,
het tot rustbrengen
calming down
van het zenuwstelsel, het signaal geven
from the nervous system, giving the signal
dat je lichaam veilig is.
that your body is safe.
Is dat iets dat jij aanraadt,
Is that something you recommend?
dat elke ademhalingsoefening
that every breathing exercise
met een lange uitademhaling
with a long exhalation
is there a difference in that as well?
Effectief. Die lange
Effective. That long.
uitademhaling is heel interessant, omdat
exhalation is very interesting because
je lichaam dan acetylcholine
your body then acetylcholine
aanmaakt, en dat is effectief het stofje
creates, and that is effectively the substance
that in your body will say, you are safe.
Ga maar in de rusttoestand,
Go into sleep mode.
tegen je zenuwstelsel dan.
against your nervous system then.
Dus het is inderdaad iets waar ik
So it is indeed something that I
heel graag,
very gladly,
wat ik heel graag aanraad aan mijn
what I highly recommend to my
klanten. Er zijn wel twee
customers. There are indeed two
maars, en die zijn misschien wel interessant
but, and those might be interesting
om op in te zoomen.
to zoom in on.
De eerste is, bij die lange
The first is, with that long one.
uitademhaling kunnen mensen ervaren
people can experience exhalation
dat ze bijvoorbeeld,
for example,
licht in hun hoofd worden.
become light in their head.
And actually, that's something I hear very often,
dat heeft te maken met
that has to do with
chronische hyperventilatie.
chronic hyperventilation.
What that means, that is a difficult
word to actually say, you are already
een hele tijd onder
a long time under
spanning aan het ademen, daardoor
tension while breathing, because of that
adem je snel en hoog.
breathe quickly and high.
Hoog, dus hoog in je borst.
High, so high in your chest.
Je longen gaan zich niet volledig
Your lungs will not fully...
vullen, je ademt snel in en
fill, you breathe in quickly and
snel uit.
quickly out.
De extra zuurstof
The extra oxygen
die je daardoor binnenpakt, is niet zo.
what you attract as a result is not like that.
Niet zozeer een probleem, maar wat gebeurt
Not so much a problem, but what happens.
er ook? Als je heel veel ademt,
is there too? If you breathe a lot,
adem je heel veel uit.
breathe out a lot.
Je ademt CO2 uit.
You exhale CO2.
En een tekort aan CO2, of
And a shortage of CO2, or
een daling in je CO2, geeft bepaalde
a decrease in your CO2 gives certain
klachten. Zoals licht zijn in je
complaints. Such as being light in your
hoofd,
head,
druk op je borst.
pressure on your chest.
Allemaal heel herkenbare stressklachten.
All very recognizable stress symptoms.
Ook spijsverteringsklachten,
Also digestive complaints,
klachten in je spieren, tintelende
complaints in your muscles, tingling
vingers, koude handen en voeten.
fingers, cold hands and feet.
That list is really very long and very extensive.
Maar dus, die impacten,
But so, those impacts,
die impact van de daling van CO2,
the impact of the decrease in CO2,
door het veel uitademen, die is er.
due to the heavy breathing, it is there.
En die geeft klachten.
And that gives complaints.
Hoe maak ik nu link met het
How do I create a link with it now?
langer uitademen natuurlijk? Wanneer
Breathe out longer, of course? When?
je bij een ademhalingsoefening
you at a breathing exercise
extra lang uitademt, ga je
exhales extra long, you go
ook die CO2 verliezen.
also lose that CO2.
Dus het kan zijn dat dat tijdelijk
So it may be that that is temporary.
even meer klachten
even more complaints
geeft. Bijvoorbeeld, lichtheid
gives. For example, lightness
becoming dizzy or lightheaded is something
wat mensen vaak omschrijven.
what people often describe.
Eigenlijk is de oplossing heel simpel.
Actually, the solution is very simple.
If you feel that, you are practicing,
ga gewoon
just go
terug naar je natuurlijke ademhaling.
back to your natural breathing.
Blijf je niet forceren in die lange
Don't force yourself in that long run.
uitademhaling, keer terug.
exhalation, return.
En weet dat dat het bewijs is
And know that that is the proof.
dat je zeker nog meer mag oefenen,
that you can definitely practice even more,
maar dat je in het moment
but that you are in the moment
als je klachten krijgt, niet moet forceren.
if you experience complaints, you should not force it.
Dus dat was
So that was
mijn eerste maar.
my first but.
Heel interessant al.
Really interesting, after all.
De tweede maar is,
The second but is,
and I only have it myself quite freely
recent geleerd,
recently learned,
is
is
wanneer dat we uitademen, diep uitademen,
when we exhale, deeply exhale,
can we sometimes have the tendency to have a lot
druk te zetten op die uitademing.
to put pressure on that exhalation.
Ik blaas nu in de micro.
I'm blowing into the microphone now.
Maar echt heel krachtig te maken.
But to really make it very powerful.
Door die interne druk
Due to that internal pressure
kan je weer andere klachten krijgen.
Can you get other complaints again?
Bijvoorbeeld, het uitademen,
For example, exhaling,
and that is what I recently myself
nog niet wist, zet eigenlijk druk
didn't know yet, actually puts pressure
op jouw bekkenbonusspieren.
on your pelvic floor muscles.
Te veel druk,
Too much pressure,
te veel spanning op jouw bekkenbonusspieren,
too much tension on your pelvic floor muscles,
geeft weer andere klachten.
gives other complaints again.
Kan ook samengaan met de darmklachten,
Can also accompany the intestinal complaints.
heb ik geleerd. Maar dus allerhande klachten.
I have learned. But various complaints.
Voila. Dus het is eigenlijk
There you go. So it is actually
belangrijk als je die lange
important if you have that long
uitademaling doet, dat je dat ook
exhalation does, that you do that too
op een heel natuurlijke manier doet.
in a very natural way.
Dat die lucht mag rustig naar
That the air may calmly go to
buiten vloeien, zonder dat jij
flowing outside, without you
echt die druk op jouw buik zet.
really puts that pressure on your stomach.
Dus even samengevat,
So in summary,
lange uitademaling,
long exhalation,
de beste tip eigenlijk
the best tip actually
die er is, heeft het snelste effect.
that is there, has the quickest effect.
Dus doe dat zeker.
So do that for sure.
Alleen, wanneer je licht wordt
Only when you become light
in je hoofd, keer terug naar je
in your head, return to you
natuurlijke ademhaling. En
natural breathing. And
when you feel pressure on your belly
if you are about to set, make sure you
gewoon je mond opent, dat
just open your mouth, that
the air can go outside by itself, and that
you don't put too much effort into it.
I think it's very good that you said that last part.
puntje ook aanhaalt. Want
point also mentioned. Because
fout ademhalen kan ook
Incorrect breathing can also happen.
heel wat darmklachten veroorzaken.
many intestinal complaints cause.
Mensen die fout ademen
People who breathe incorrectly.
of kort ademen, die gaan
or shortness of breath, they go
swallowing much more air, which also results in a bloated feeling.
gevoel kan geven. Mensen die
can give feelings. People who
sowieso al wat gasvorming hebben, dat
in any case already have some gas formation, that
effect kan versterkt worden. Dus vandaar
the effect can be strengthened. So there you have it.
ook echt, die ademhaling is
truly, that breathing is
een hele belangrijke. En ook,
a very important one. And also,
you already mentioned it from that belly,
die buikanemhaling is een heel, heel belangrijke.
That belly breathing is very, very important.
Nu, omdat
Now, because
we het sowieso daarnet eigenlijk ook hadden
we actually had it anyway just now
over die ademhalingsoefeningen.
about those breathing exercises.
What I often hear from clients,
is van, ja, stel, ik heb
is of, yes, suggest, I have
zo'n situatie waarin ik weet, hier spelen
such a situation where I know, this is happening
mijn darmen heel vaak in op.
my intestines very often.
Ik zit bijvoorbeeld op de trein. Het
I am, for example, on the train. The
lukt mij niet om die ademhalingsoefeningen
I can't manage those breathing exercises.
te doen. Wat zou voor jou daar
to do. What would be for you there
een tip zijn? Gaan zij beter op een
a tip? Are they better off on a
ademhalingsoefening focussen, of op
breathing exercise focusing, or on
een andere specifieke oefening?
another specific exercise?
Of zou dan bijvoorbeeld een audiofragment
Or would, for example, an audio clip...
uit jouw audiocoaching
from your audio coaching
a tool that they can use at that
moment kunnen toepassen?
Can apply moment?
Uitgebreide vraag. Ik heb daar
Extensive question. I have that there
meerdere antwoorden op. Dus stel,
multiple answers on. So, suppose,
je zit op de trein en
you are on the train and
je voelt het niet om een
you don't feel it for a
ademhalingsoefening te doen. Dat is eigenlijk een beetje
to do breathing exercises. That's actually a bit
het lukt niet meteen. Ik heb daar eigenlijk
it doesn't work right away. Actually, I have it there.
At this moment, I am thinking of three things.
die ik daarop zou antwoorden.
that I would respond to.
Ten eerste,
First of all,
opnieuw, zo'n
again, such a
ademhalingsoefening, als dat nieuw is,
breathing exercise, if that is new,
dan vraagt dat nog veel. Dus de moment
then that asks a lot. So the moment
that you have that under control, then you can
je dat waarschijnlijk in elke setting doen.
you would probably do that in any setting.
Zeker en vast ook op de trein.
Certainly and definitely on the train.
So I think that practicing will help you.
sowieso gaat helpen.
Anyway, it will help.
Je kan dat dan ook verkorten,
You can shorten that as well,
een kortere versie van maken,
make a shorter version of it,
eentje die mensen ook niet aan jou
one that doesn't let people near you either
kunnen zien, als ze naar jou kijken.
can see, when they look at you.
Dus ik denk echt wel dat daar
So I really do think that there
een beetje oefenen met verschillende technieken
a little practice with different techniques
een heel helpende
a very helpful
tip kan zijn.
tip can be.
Wat wil ik daar nog over zeggen?
What more do I want to say about that?
Ja, een audio kan absoluut helpen.
Yes, audio can definitely help.
Dus hoe ik mijn cursus heb opgebouwd,
So how I structured my course,
of de audio coaching
of the audio coaching
heb opgebouwd, is dat er effectief
I have built it up, is that effectively there?
voor elke situatie audio zijn.
to be audio for every situation.
Dus je kunt perfect je oortjes insteken
So you can perfectly put in your earbuds.
en dan even eentje
and then just one more
opzetten. Ik heb er bijvoorbeeld speciaal
setting up. For example, I have specifically
voor bijna...
for almost...
bij paniek of angst.
in case of panic or fear.
Speciaal voor als je onzeker bent.
Especially for when you feel insecure.
I really have a thing for audio clips.
in moeilijke situaties.
in difficult situations.
Dus dat kan absoluut helpend zijn.
So that can definitely be helpful.
En misschien als laatste,
And perhaps as a last point,
to still give something where you
nu al direct zonder de audio coaching
already directly without the audio coaching
mee aan de slag kan, is
can get started with is
ik heb ook, denk ik, een tiental
I also think I have about ten.
en ik blijf dat aanvullen,
and I will keep adding to that,
van die snelle trucjes in mijn
of those quick tricks in my
audio coaching gezet.
audio coaching set.
En een van die trucjes,
And one of those tricks,
And I think that's going to be one.
is luisteraar nog niet kennen,
do not yet know listener,
dat is eigenlijk om je ogen
that is actually for your eyes
te gebruiken. Dus als je het
to be used. So if you it
"Just don't feel with the breathing, can you."
ook je ogen gebruiken om aan je
also use your eyes to your
lichaam een signaal te geven, je bent
to give the body a signal, you are
veilig. En hoe doe je dat?
Safe. And how do you do that?
Is eigenlijk door je blik
It's actually through your gaze.
te laten zwerven.
to let wander.
Dus in plaats van
So instead of
heel erg gefocust te zijn op
to be very focused on
bijvoorbeeld het toilet misschien, of
for example the toilet maybe, or
de deur in dit geval, of je
the door in this case, or you
overbuur in de trein, ga je
neighbor on the train, are you going?
eigenlijk je ogen laten rondgaan,
actually let your eyes roam around,
and in that way you say to your
brein, er is tijd,
brain, there is time,
ruimte, ik kan rondkijken,
space, I can look around,
en je creëert het omgekeerde
and you create the opposite
van een tunnelvisie.
of tunnel vision.
Voor angst en stress is een tunnelvisie
A tunnel vision for fear and stress.
heel typisch, we gaan op één punt
very typical, we are going to one point
focussen, daar zit het gevaar.
Focusing, that's where the danger lies.
So when you are going to do the opposite with your eyes,
dan geef je ook het omgekeerde
then you also give the opposite
effect aan je lichaam, en dan
effect on your body, and then
kan je ook gaan merken dat
you can also start to notice that
die stress gaat zakken.
that stress will decrease.
I think that's a very good tip,
omdat ook heel veel mensen met prikkelbare
because a lot of people with irritable
intestines, yes, they feel all sorts of things in those intestines
something is going on, but it's not exactly clear what it is.
maar ze voelen die samentrekken,
but they feel it contract,
ze denken, hier komt iets aan,
they think, something is coming here,
en zeker in situaties waar ze
and especially in situations where they
niet direct naar het toilet kunnen gaan,
not being able to go to the toilet directly,
I think that's an exercise they do instantly.
kunnen toepassen. Klopt.
can apply. Correct.
Is het dan eerder van het signaal
Is it then earlier from the signal?
geven aan de hersenen van
give to the brains of
I am safe, or also a bit that thought.
afleiden?
distract?
Initially, it is really a tip that
based on the functioning of our nervous system,
so it is effective, it is about the
veiligheid, al denk ik,
safety, although I think,
Yes, I usually also give the tip.
kijk naar iets wat je aangenaam vindt,
look at something you find pleasing,
for example, when you are on the train, look at
het landschap, kijk naar natuur,
the landscape, look at nature,
dingen waar je ogen graag
things that your eyes like
even op rusten, en dan
just resting for a moment, and then
I think it also serves as a welcome distraction.
werkt. Ja.
works. Yes.
Dus als je luistert, noteer
So if you're listening, take note.
die tip zeker, pas hem zeker toe.
Definitely take that tip, be sure to apply it.
We are sure that you are there.
een voordeel mee gaat ervaren.
to experience an advantage.
Absoluut. We hebben het al gezegd,
Absolutely. We’ve said it already,
test het uit, geef het een kans,
give it a try, give it a chance,
test it a few times to see,
heeft het voor jou eigenlijk
does it actually have it for you
een meerwaarde? Ja.
an added value? Yes.
Ook heel goed dat je aanhaalt
Also very good that you mention
bij paniek en bij angst
in panic and in fear
and such, because that is also something that
heel vaak voorvalt bij mijn
happens very often with my
doelgroep. Sommige mensen
target group. Some people
hebben al jaren last, heel veel
have been suffering for years, a lot
panic, and that is of course also because the body
natuurlijk, je brein
of course, your brain
onthoudt alle onveilige situaties.
remember all unsafe situations.
You're going to be that one time that you're not on time.
got to the toilet, still remembered very well,
maar al die andere keren dat er
but all those other times that there
nothing was wrong, or that the toilet
Whether it was picked up perfectly on time, we will not know.
En dat geeft heel
And that gives a lot.
heel veel stress, en dat is natuurlijk
a lot of stress, and that is of course
logisch dat we die onveilige situaties
logically that we those unsafe situations
gaan onthouden,
going to remember,
but yes, that does create quite a lot
paniek en angst van, wat als
panic and fear of, what if
dat volgende keer nog eens gaat gebeuren?
Is that going to happen again next time?
En heb je daar
And do you have that there?
eigenlijk een specifieke tip voor?
actually a specific tip for?
Ja, het is misschien
Yes, it might be.
het is geen quick fix
it's not a quick fix
of geen snelle tip deze keer,
or no quick tip this time,
maar ik kan er mijzelf
but I can myself
heel erg in verplaatsen. Ik ben zelf ook
very much in transition. I am also
iemand die aanleg heeft om angstig
someone who has a predisposition to be anxious
to be, that often has to do with it as well.
Mensen die qua persoon gewoon
People who are just ordinary in character.
snel angst ervaren.
experience fear quickly.
En ik heb bijvoorbeeld een fobie,
And I have, for example, a phobia,
en wat daar bij mij
and what about me
het grootste verschil heeft in gemaakt,
the biggest difference has been made,
and I also see that this is important to my clients,
is dat je eigenlijk
is that actually you
je angstreacties
your fear reactions
goed leert kennen. Het gaat opnieuw
getting to know well. It's happening again.
over signalen van je lichaam, dat is
about the signals from your body, that is
hier echt centraal.
here really central.
Je leert die signalen goed
You learn those signals well.
kennen, en je leert ook
to know, and you also learn
daarmee omgaan op een manier
dealing with it in a way
dat je ernaar leert kijken van
that you learn to look at it from
oké, weten
Okay, know.
met wat ik al heb meegemaakt
with what I have already experienced
met de vorige situaties
with the previous situations
die lastig zijn geweest, is het
that have been difficult, is it
niet raar eigenlijk dat ik in deze
not strange actually that I am in this
situatie een beetje begin te zweten,
situation is starting to sweat a little.
dat mijn hart wat versnelt,
that my heart quickens,
dat ik merk dat mijn darmen
that I notice that my intestines
wat beginnen borrelen. Dat zijn eigenlijk
what starts to bubble. Those are actually
normale lichamelijke reacties
normal physical reactions
als we het spannend vinden.
if we find it exciting.
Wat er vaak bij angst gebeurt is,
What often happens with anxiety is,
wanneer die eerste
when that first
angstreacties of spanningsreacties
fear responses or stress responses
opspelen, dat we ons
to play up, that we are
daarop baseren om nog meer
to base on that to get even more
angstig te worden. Oei, mijn
becoming anxious. Oops, my
hart klopt sneller, oei, mijn darmen
heart beats faster, oops, my intestines
make noise, it won't go that far again anyway
are, hop, and we are off, and we
zijn aan de volgende trap. En voordat
they are on the next step. And before
if you know, you are completely in that fear
gezogen. Dat is ook wat er
sucked. That is also what there
bij mij vroeger gebeurt, bij mijn fobie,
happened to me in the past, with my phobia,
dat dan te maken met een bloedafname
that then has to do with a blood sample
in de wachtkamer,
in the waiting room,
was dat een heel moeilijk
was that very difficult
verhaal.
story.
Laat ons zeggen, en eigenlijk
Let's say, and actually
sinds dat ik mijn
since I my
lichaamssignalen veel beter ken, die
know body signals much better, those
angst is er nog, maar
fear is still there, but
mijn lichamelijke reacties, die zijn
my physical reactions, they are
veel gezakt, omdat ik nu weet
fallen a lot, because I now know
hoe ze te herkennen,
how to recognize them,
hoe ermee om te gaan, hoe mezelf
how to deal with it, how to myself
tot rust te brengen, en daardoor
to bring to rest, and thereby
heb ik die vicieuze cirkel kunnen
have I been able to break that vicious circle
doorknippen, en ik merk jaar
cutting through, and I notice year
na jaar, dat zelfs
after a year, even that
mijn angst daardoor ook
my fear because of that too
uiteindelijk afneemt.
ultimately decreases.
Dus het is een andere
So it is a different one.
aanpak dan de klassieke
approach and the classic
approach to a phobia, to tackle.
of bij paniekaanvallen,
or during panic attacks,
maar het werkt gewoon keihard.
but it just works really hard.
Ja, ik vind het heel mooi
Yes, I think it is very beautiful.
how you say it, listening to the signals
van je lichaam, weten
of your body, to know
hoe jouw lichaam op bepaalde dingen
how your body reacts to certain things
reageert, die handleiding komt ook
responds, that manual is coming too
weer aan bod, weten waarvoor jou
once again, know what it is for you
werkt, want het is wel zo,
it works, because it is true,
want we gaan heel veel situaties
because we are going to experience a lot of situations
niet kunnen voorkomen,
cannot be prevented,
en we gaan die prikkels wel voelen,
and we will feel those stimuli,
we gaan die signalen doorkrijgen,
we are going to receive those signals,
in het voorbeeld van darmklachten,
in the case of intestinal complaints,
you're going to feel that, but it doesn't mean
that when you feel it, something automatically
is going to happen, that you won't make it to the bathroom on time.
hit, you might not even need to go to the toilet,
maar die signalen gaan er zijn,
but those signals will be there,
en luister daarna, en ga
and listen afterward, and go
dan al jouw trucjes toepassen,
then apply all your tricks,
om dat eigenlijk
to actually do that
niet te laten
not to let
omslaan in een situatie
turn around in a situation
waarin je heel veel stress ervaart, paniek
in which you experience a lot of stress, panic
ervaart, of angst gaat creëren.
experiencing, or creating fear.
Ja.
Yes.
Klopt helemaal.
That's absolutely right.
Ja.
Yes.
I haven't mentioned that yet, Myrthe and I.
hebben anderhalf jaar geleden een masterclass
had a masterclass a year and a half ago
opgenomen voor mijn cliënten,
recorded for my clients,
en wij zijn ook op dat onderwerp
and we are also on that topic
dieper ingegaan, en iets
gone deeper, and something
waar daar mij is uit bijgebleven,
what has stuck with me there,
zijn eigenlijk die affirmaties.
are actually those affirmations.
We hebben dat toen uitgebreid
We discussed that in detail back then.
besproken, maar dat is eigenlijk dat je
discussed, but that's actually that you
bepaalde dingen tegen jezelf kan zeggen,
you can say certain things to yourself,
van oké, ik voel dat mijn darmen
Okay, I feel that my intestines
werken, ik krijg
working, I'm getting
now once more stimuli through, but that wants
absoluut niet betekenen dat er zelfs last
absolutely does not mean that there is even discomfort
gaat komen, of dat er
is coming, or that there
iets ernstigs gaat gebeuren als
something serious is going to happen when
niet op tijd op het toilet geraken.
not getting to the toilet in time.
En met heel wat verschillende
And with quite a few different
trucjes kan je eigenlijk ervoor zorgen
You can actually make tricks happen.
dat je anders omgaat met
that you deal differently with
die signalen. En ik denk dat
those signals. And I think that
you showed today that there is so much
exercises are meant to get started with them,
en voor specifieke situaties.
and for specific situations.
Ja, klopt. En inderdaad,
Yes, that's correct. And indeed,
die affirmaties, dat is eentje
those affirmations, that is one
waar ik heel erg in geloof.
what I strongly believe in.
Maar in de masterclass hebben we
But in the masterclass we have
more about that, so if people want to know,
Then they need to take a look at that.
Ja, exact. Maar ik denk ook
Yes, exactly. But I also think
dat de audiocoaching die jij hebt
that the audio coaching you have
ook wel ideaal is voor mensen
is also ideal for people
eigenlijk te hebben als ze daar regelmatig
actually to have when they are there regularly
paniek ervaren,
experience panic,
stress ervaren, of niet tot rust
experiencing stress, or not being able to relax
kunnen komen. Want
can come. Because
ook al is het geen begeleiding,
even though it is not guidance,
als je eigenlijk die ademhalingsoefeningen of die
if you actually those breathing exercises or those
relaxatieoefeningen op je eigen moet doen,
You need to do relaxation exercises on your own.
dat is moeilijk. Zeker om
that is difficult. Especially to
I think it's about getting into a routine in the beginning.
Ja, absoluut.
Yes, absolutely.
Yes, I say it, people are often there.
sceptisch over, en er valt
skeptical about, and there is
ook op internet heel wat te vinden,
also quite a lot to be found on the internet,
maar ik merk gewoon elke keer als
but I just notice every time when
mensen instappen, dat ze er echt
people getting in, that they really
een resultaat van vinden.
a result of finding.
And often it has something to do with it as well,
that they already know me a little, through me
to follow on social media, or through a podcast
aflevering gehoord te hebben,
having heard the episode,
resulting in there being already a slight connection
ontstaan is, dat ze zich al veilig
The emergence is that they already feel safe.
voelen bij mij. En dan heeft ook
feel with me. And then also has
het effect van mijn stem
the effect of my voice
is dat effect eigenlijk
is that effect actually
best groot. Dus dan hoor ik ook vaak
best big. So then I often hear as well
dat als mijn stem, ja,
that if my voice, yes,
ligt, dat dat eigenlijk ook
lies, that it actually does too
zorgt voor wat we in de psychologie
provides what we in psychology
co-regulatie noemen. Dus eigenlijk
call it co-regulation. So actually
based on my voice and the calm
in mijn stem ook al effecten merken.
Notice effects in my voice as well.
Dus dat kan ook soms
So that can sometimes happen too.
het voordeel zijn van net naar
the advantage of just going to
iets of iemand te luisteren
to listen to something or someone
waarbij je je veilig voelt, ten opzichte
where you feel safe, in relation to
van het alleen te willen doen.
of wanting to do it alone.
Exact. En de luisteraar hoort
Exactly. And the listener hears.
you also have a very soft,
heel aangename stem om naar te luisteren.
very pleasant voice to listen to.
En eigenlijk met de audio coaching
And actually with the audio coaching.
hebben ze eigenlijk een relaxatie,
do they actually have a relaxation,
a breathing coach in my pocket, just like that
mag verwoorden.
may express.
Thank you, that’s so beautiful to say.
If you're listening now and thinking, "I can do this too."
coaching op zulke momenten
coaching at such moments
gebruiken.
to use.
Ik kon er niet op komen.
I couldn't think of it.
Dan is die audio coaching van Myrthe
Then that audio coaching from Myrthe is.
een heel interessante om even
a very interesting moment to just
naar te bekijken. Ik ga ook in de notities
to view. I will also go into the notes.
van de aflevering de link zetten,
put the link from the episode,
dan kan je die terugvinden.
then you can find it again.
Nu Myrthe, is er één
Now Myrthe, there is one.
exercise that you would still do with the listener
willen meegeven van, dat is
want to convey that is
Is there another exercise you should try?
Dus,
So,
even overlopen wat we al gezegd hebben.
Let's quickly recap what we have already said.
Dus ik zou sowieso het langer
So I would definitely take longer.
uitademen, aanmoedigen
exhale, encourage
met de twee maars die we hebben
with the two mares we have
overlopen. Je ogen laten
walk over. Let your eyes
zwerven, vind ik ook een hele
Wandering, I also think is a very
goeie. En dan, wat ik
good. And then, what I
ook wel een hele fijne vind, is
also a very nice one, is
er zijn zoveel,
there are so many,
welke ga ik kiezen?
Which one am I going to choose?
Een moeilijke
A difficult one
keuze.
choice.
Ja, een check-in bij jezelf.
Yes, a check-in with yourself.
Even checken, wat gaat er
Just checking, what's going on?
door mijn hoofd? Hoe voelt mijn
through my head? How does my...
lichaam? Hoe adem ik?
Body? How do I breathe?
En wat heb ik nodig?
And what do I need?
Ik breng dat op workshops
I bring that to workshops.
vaak als de halt-oefening,
often like the stop exercise,
die ik zo heb opgebouwd.
that I have built up like this.
De H staat voor
The H stands for
hoofd, de A voor
head, the A for
ademhaling, de L voor
breathing, the L for
lichaam en de T voor
body and the T for
terugkeren naar
return to
de realiteit.
the reality.
Dus,
So,
ja, dat is voor mij,
yes, that is for me,
zo'n check-in die gewoon echt
such a check-in that is just really
het verschil kan maken. En als we dat
can make a difference. And if we do that
een paar keer, of één keer per dag
a few times, or once a day
al tenminste doen, dan kunnen
at least do it, then we can
we beginnen met inzicht te krijgen
we are starting to gain insight
in, wat zijn mijn signalen?
What are my signals?
Hoe ga ik daarmee om?
How do I deal with that?
And then the ball starts rolling.
Exact. Het is echt inchecken,
Exactly. It's really checking in.
And I think we all do that a lot.
te weinig. In alle haast
too little. In all haste
vergeten we dat. En je zei het ook heel
let's forget that. And you said it very
mooi, wat heb ik nodig? En
Nice, what do I need? And
That is something we often don't think about.
Maar de rode draad is,
But the common thread is,
if we also listen to your body during the episode,
check in, denk na van
check in, think about
wat heeft mijn lichaam nodig? Hoe kan ik
What does my body need? How can I
dat helpen? Wat kan
Does that help? What can?
ik aan die situatie doen? Dus ik denk
What should I do about that situation? So I think.
that it is also a very, very nice exercise
die mensen kunnen uitproberen.
those people can try out.
Met veel plezier gegeven.
Given with great pleasure.
Het was alleszins een heel, heel
It was certainly a very, very
interessante aflevering. Ik denk dat er heel veel
interesting episode. I think there is a lot
praktische tips ook uitgekomen zijn.
practical tips have also emerged.
En ik wil jou alvast
And I want you already
bedanken voor alles te delen.
thank you for sharing everything.
And then I have one final question.
Nu, in deze podcast is alles
Now, in this podcast, everything is
over spijsverteringsgelachten,
about digestive woes,
stoelengang en toiletgewoontes
chair rows and toilet habits
geen taboe. En daar, daar
no taboo. And there, there
I still have a concluding question for you.
Because there is always a bit of discussion.
over hoe de toiletrol hangt.
about how the toilet paper roll hangs.
En vooral, naar welke kant dat velletje
And especially, in which direction that piece of paper.
hangt. Dus ik ben heel benieuwd
is hanging. So I am very curious
the toilet paper roll at your home in the bathroom.
Hoe hangt dat? Met het velletje naar
How's it hanging? With the skin facing up.
voor of naar achter?
forward or backward?
Met het velletje naar voor.
With the sheet facing forward.
Ik vind dat toch, ja, de meest
I still think that, yes, the most
logische. Exact. Heel benieuwd
logical. Exact. Very curious
wat de cijfers daarvan zijn. Maar
what the figures for that are. But
voor mij is dat toch wel raar
For me, that's still quite strange.
als dat naar achter hangt. Exact.
if that hangs back. Exactly.
Ik heb hetzelfde gevoel daarbij.
I feel the same way about it.
With me, it's also a little bit forward.
En we zitten hier op locatie
And we are here on location.
bij jou in de praktijk. Dus ik
at your practice. So I
I had already seen it when I went to the bathroom.
That you also put forward a team sheet.
Ja, toch wel.
Yes, indeed.
Bedankt, Meerte. Met heel veel plezier.
Thank you, Meerte. With great pleasure.
Bedankt voor de uitnodiging.
Thank you for the invitation.
