Hello everyone and welcome to the first episode of our podcast series, the ABC of the EV.
A series in which we will try to explain it to you in the most understandable way possible.
to explain the ins and outs of electric mobility.
Ik ben Steven Appelmans, journalist bij Autowits.
I am Steven Appelmans, a journalist at Autowits.
A podcast series that would not have been possible without the support of Engie, your partner.
in duurzame mobiliteit en slim en voordelig laden.
in sustainable mobility and smart and cost-effective charging.
The question of today is, what do you actually need to recharge at home?
And also as already mentioned, I am not going to answer that question, I have two experts for that.
at the table who, as luck would have it, also work at Engie.
On my right side is Peter Severs, on my left side is Christophe Korthout.
maar heren, misschien moeten jullie jullie zelf even voorstellen.
But gentlemen, maybe you should introduce yourselves.
Christophe?
Christophe?
I am Christophe, I am an EV expert at Engie and I am daily involved in answering.
from customer inquiries and I assist our customers with all kinds of questions regarding electric mobility.
and that vehicle that comes home, goes home to charge and I am trying to provide a useful answer
en oplossing aan te bieden.
and to offer a solution.
And Peter, what is your specialty at Engie?
I am Peter and I am a technical expert, so I spend more time in the labs and I make sure that
de oplossingen, de oplossingen, de oplossingen, de oplossingen, de oplossingen,
the solutions, the solutions, the solutions, the solutions, the solutions,
the solutions are being tested and have a good idea of how they work and what the benefits are
ervan is.
it is.
In other words, the two perfect gentlemen who answer all my questions or all our questions the...
juiste antwoord gaan kunnen geven.
to provide the correct answer.
With the first question we hear the most, yes yes, those electric cars, that
It's all good, but that already costs a lot and then we still have to get a very expensive one.
Purchasing a home installation also to charge that car.
So my question, and I will start with Peter, because I heard that you are the technical...
expert bent.
you are an expert.
Klopt.
Correct.
Klopt dat nu Peter?
Is that correct now, Peter?
Do you really need an expensive home installation to be able to use an electric car?
rijden?
to drive?
Niet altijd.
Not always.
There are actually two solutions to charge the car at home.
There is a regular power outlet and then there is the charging station.
There are several factors that will influence that choice.
One of those factors is the loading speed.
On a regular electrical outlet, you are limited to 10 amps, which means 2.3 kilowatts.
If you want to charge an average EV, you need more than 24 hours.
Ja.
Yes.
Dus dat is een aspect.
So that is one aspect.
Dat je zeker in rekening moet brengen.
That you definitely need to take into account.
If you want to charge faster, you need a charging station that can handle much higher power levels.
kan gaan laden.
can go loading.
So that is an aspect that definitely needs to be taken into account.
Een tweede factor daarin is efficiëntie.
A second factor in this is efficiency.
The lower the power at which you charge at an AC charging point, so an alternating current charging point,
The lower the power, the lower the efficiency as well.
And so that means that a kilowatt-hour you charge in your car, at a lower power.
Could it be that only two-thirds ends up in the battery?
So that is an aspect you have to take into account, that if you indeed
Then just the outlet will charge, that there is not less energy stored in that car.
gaat worden.
is going to be.
Maar technisch is het perfect mogelijk?
But technically it is perfectly possible?
Technisch is het perfect mogelijk.
Technically, it is perfectly possible.
There is indeed the safety aspect that you also need to take into account with a power outlet.
We have conducted a number of tests in our laboratories with both very recent new sockets.
als al wat oudere gebruikte stopcontacten.
as all those older used electrical outlets.
And we noticed a big difference in heat development in that outlet.
That heat generation can lead to melting temperatures of that socket, and then there is of course.
a safety risk that must also be taken into account.
So if I read between the lines a bit here and hear, then you would like a charging station.
thuis aanraden?
Recommend at home?
Zeker als je voldoende kilometers gaat doen.
Certainly if you are going to do enough kilometers.
If you indeed drive very few kilometers in a year, you might consider to
that just doing it to a socket.
But then I recommend having a certified electrician take a look at that outlet.
and to ensure that there are as few electrical outlets in that clinic as possible.
To keep the capacity, the total capacity in that circuit as low as possible.
You already mentioned a loss of efficiency earlier.
Suppose I put such a wallbox or charging station against my wall at home, how much loss?
ik dan?
me then?
Normally, you are between 90 and 95 percent efficient with a charging station.
That certainly depends on the power, indeed.
So with a charging point, you can also start to modulate.
That actually means charging at a lower power.
When you go back to power sources like a power outlet, you go back to the same.
effect krijgen.
to take effect.
So a charging point from about 5.5 kilowatts is above 90 percent.
Oké.
Okay.
Nog een vraag heren.
One more question, gentlemen.
I don't know who I should ask that to, but let's say I am charging at home.
What is the maximum power that I should be able to charge at home?
It also depends a bit on your usage.
Wat Peter heeft juist ook gezegd.
What Peter just said as well.
So it goes slower on a regular outlet.
Je zit inderdaad met wat verlies.
You are indeed facing some loss.
Maar voor bepaalde mensen.
But for certain people.
Dat zou best voldoende zijn.
That would be quite sufficient.
So if we convert that, Peter, if I'm not mistaken, then you end up with a charging speed of 10 kilometers per hour.
Zoiets in de buurt.
Something like that nearby.
So we always try to make that a bit clear for customers.
Dus 10 kilometer per uur.
So 10 kilometers per hour.
I plug in my charger and after an hour I've gained 10 kilometers.
And so when you look at that at the Belgian level, those are of course averages and an average is never exact, of course.
Maar daar cover je toch wel.
But you do cover that.
If you can load for a night, you essentially cover a good number of movements or mobility needs of people.
And so that has always been a bit of the starting point for me in a discussion with customers, it's like, okay, but you can load as heavily as you want and make a reinforcement request to the grid operator and go to three phases, etc.
But what do you actually really need to meet your mobility needs?
To cover your average or your general mobility needs?
Because for me, that's what it's about when charging at your home.
So basically, to ensure that you are comfortably seated 80 to 90 percent of the time and can meet your mobility needs.
And then you can always combine that with public charging, with public fast charging.
Especially in Flanders, we do see a significant increase in the number of installed public DC chargers or fast chargers.
Dus die komen er al massa bij.
So there will already be a mass of them.
And that is, for me, a bit of the flexibility that you can have.
If necessary, you can quickly go load up for that exceptional trip or the long journey you have.
By the way, it's good that you bring up those fast chargers, because that is also something we get a lot of questions about.
People often get confused about that, because a fast charger, we know this now, is not the same as a home charger.
Can one of you two briefly explain the difference?
Yes, definitely. A fast charger is essentially a charger that charges using direct current.
While a home charger today is usually an alternating current charging point.
An alternating current charging point actually delivers electricity in alternating current, which is then converted into direct current in the car to be stored in the battery.
At a fast charging point, it is typically a DC, so a direct current charging point, and no conversion is done anymore; it goes directly into the battery.
Vandaar dat het sneller gaat.
That's why it goes faster.
That's why it also goes faster and the efficiencies are always higher.
And alternating current is what comes out of the socket at your home and everyone else's home.
Ja, exact.
Yes, exactly.
Good, back to our charging station on alternating current, so what comes to the socket.
Can that be installed at everyone's home?
Suppose you have a driveway, a garage, and a wall that can be attached to it, is that possible?
Or are adjustments needed to your installation?
It can always be done. There are a number of aspects that you do need to take into consideration.
The charging points available today include single-phase and three-phase charging points.
Een monofasig laadpunt kan 3,7 tot 7,4 kilowatt leveren.
A single-phase charging point can deliver 3.7 to 7.4 kilowatts.
A three-phase charging point ranges from 11 to 22 kilowatts.
And then you need to check which connection you actually have to the electricity grid.
If you have a single-phase connection, you will only be able to install a single-phase charging point anyway.
You can't just suddenly create a number of phases.
So that's already an aspect you need to take into account.
And then further, which other major consumers are present in the house?
For example, if you already have a heat pump, you should keep in mind that if you also start charging an EV
en je hebt maar een monofasige aansluiting.
and you only have a single-phase connection.
That you might hit a certain limit.
Daarvoor bestaan oplossingen.
There are solutions for that.
Een DLB, een Dynamic Load Balancer.
A DLB, a Dynamic Load Balancer.
The Dynamic Load Balancer will ensure that the maximum capacity of the network connection is never exceeded.
So that means that at the moment a heat pump is switched on or when you start cooking.
Dat het laadpunt zijn vermogen gaat verlagen.
That the charging point will reduce its power.
En dus trager gaat laden.
And so it loads slower.
To ensure that the main fuse does not blow.
And that is actually a comfort aspect for the customer.
To ensure that you are not cooking or doing laundry while your car is charging.
That you need to turn the security back on.
Want dat is natuurlijk niet aangenaam.
Because that is of course not pleasant.
So that's one aspect you need to take into account.
Een verzwaring kan altijd.
An increase is always possible.
Maar een verzwaring kost wel geld.
But an increase does cost money.
Zou je dat dan aanraden?
Would you recommend that?
That depends on the consumption you already have in the house.
Een verzwaring kan, maar is niet goedkoop.
A weighting can be done, but it is not cheap.
Je moet de meter laten aanpassen.
You need to have the meter adjusted.
You should actually have the wiring replaced from the street.
You also have internal costs in your home.
Where you need to switch from single-phase to three-phase.
Dus dat is niet van de poes.
So that's not to be taken lightly.
Dus daar moet zeker rekening mee gehouden worden voordat je zo'n verzwaring gaat aanvragen.
So that definitely needs to be taken into account before you apply for such an increase.
Maar als het nodig is.
But if necessary.
If you are planning other large consumers in your home.
Suppose you still want to add a heat pump.
Then you really need to take that into account.
Then you might as well take a short pain from that bitter pill and move on.
Dat brengt mij dan terug bij Christophe.
That brings me back to Christophe.
Want...
Because...
Peter zei het al.
Peter already said it.
Warmtepompen.
Heat pumps.
We are cooking and our car is charging.
What does that actually do to our consumption?
Een elektrische auto opladen.
Charging an electric car.
Yes, that does have an impact on your consumption.
Dus je elektrische wagen.
So your electric car.
We always say that is the biggest machine.
Bij wijze van spreken.
By way of speaking.
Dat je een huis haalt.
That you get a house.
Dus dat is eigenlijk niks te vergelijken.
So that's actually nothing to compare.
So not with your washing machine or with your dryer or something like that.
And that actually has to do with two aspects.
Dus zowel wat betreft vermogen.
So both in terms of power.
Peter heeft dat net al.
Peter has just done that.
Met wat vermogen.
With some power.
Met wat vermogens gegogeld.
With some assets juggled.
Dat zeg ik dan altijd een beetje.
I always say that a little bit.
Als ik met de technische mensen spreek.
When I speak with the technical people.
Alsjeblieft Peter.
Here you go, Peter.
Dus zowel wat betreft vermogen.
So both in terms of power.
Dus dat wil zeggen.
So that means.
What do I ask of electricity at a given moment?
Als ook wat betreft duurtijd.
As well as with regard to duration.
Dat je dat vermogen gaat gebruiken.
That you are going to use that ability.
So how long are you going to use that power?
On those two points, an electric vehicle is actually
met geen enkel ander toestel te vergelijken.
unlike any other device.
Warmtepompen oké.
Heat pumps okay.
En warmtepompen heeft ook wel wat.
And heat pumps have their merits too.
Maar klassieke verbruikers.
But classic consumers.
Zoals een wasmachine of iets dergelijks.
Like a washing machine or something like that.
They briefly draw a peak of power.
Maar dat is dan eerder 3 kilowatt.
But that's actually about 3 kilowatts.
En even Peter daar straks over spreken.
And just talk about Peter for a moment.
7 kilowatt.
7 kilowatts.
11 kilowatt.
11 kilowatts.
So that is really a different magnitude plus.
Dus die 7 en die 11.
So those 7 and 11.
Those that are drawn for hours or at least quite a period of time.
So that’s where the point about safety comes from.
Dus oké.
So okay.
If you want to charge me with a regular plug.
Maar laat dat alsjeblieft toch eens even nakijken.
But please take a moment to check that.
Of nazien door een elektricien.
Or checked by an electrician.
Dus aan een verlengkabel sowieso niet.
So definitely not to an extension cable.
Met andere woorden.
In other words.
Yes, an extension cord is something we do indeed see from time to time.
En etcetera.
And etcetera.
Dus ja best niet.
So yes, better not.
Mocht je het toch doen.
If you do it anyway.
Moet je hem helemaal afrollen best.
You have to unroll it completely, really.
Because there is also a bit of a safety aspect to it.
Dus die koelsens zit aan de barolle.
So that cooler is sitting on the bar.
Dus helemaal afrollen.
So roll it all the way out.
En dan insteken.
And then insert it.
Maar liever niet.
But preferably not.
And if you can avoid it, I would say it's best not to.
De reden dat ik het vraag is.
The reason I'm asking is.
Omdat een deel van onze luisteraars.
Because a part of our listeners.
Zal alleszins of moeilijk misschien in staat zijn.
Will certainly or perhaps be difficult to be able.
Om hun auto op te laden.
To charge their car.
Omdat ze in een rijhuis wonen.
Because they live in a townhouse.
Of in een appartementsgebouw.
Or in an apartment building.
Hebben jullie daar oplossingen of tips?
Do you have any solutions or tips for that?
Because you just want to lay your cable over a sidewalk.
Ik weet niet of dat zomaar kan.
I don't know if that is allowed.
Dat kan niet zomaar.
That can't just happen.
Nee inderdaad.
No indeed.
And it is something that occurs a bit more frequently.
And where municipalities are also starting to become a bit stricter.
Ik begrijp dat ook wel.
I understand that too.
Dus dat struikelgevaar.
So that's the tripping hazard.
We zien daar wel een evolutie.
We see an evolution there.
We zien wel een evolutie.
We see an evolution.
That a number of municipalities are becoming somewhat more positive about it.
En bijvoorbeeld.
And for example.
We hebben al gevallen gezien.
We have already seen cases.
Ook Belgische gemeentes.
Also Belgian municipalities.
That for example comes to remove a paving slab from a sidewalk.
En daar met een kabelgootje gaan werken.
And to work there with a cable duct.
Zodat je eigenlijk je laadkabel kunt induwen.
So that you can actually push in your charging cable.
And in such a way that the cable is not above ground.
And that there is actually no longer any risk of tripping.
Er is ook een andere oplossing.
There is also another solution.
Die ik ook al gezien heb.
That I have seen as well.
I don't think it exists in mass yet.
But that's to work through the height.
With a kind of pole that hangs above.
That you can actually take the plug from the top.
En zo naar je voertuig kan brengen.
And so can bring to your vehicle.
So actually a bridge was made over the sidewalk.
So that you also avoid that tripping hazard again.
Are there solutions that you frequently encounter?
Het is nog redelijk beperkt.
It is still fairly limited.
Maar.
But.
I find it positive that a number of municipalities are going there.
Ik denk iedereen moet zijn steentje bijdragen.
I think everyone should do their part.
In die evolutie waar we voor staan.
In the evolution we are facing.
Daar blijven we nog altijd uit gaan.
We still go out there.
Van het feit dat de persoon zelf.
From the fact that the person themselves.
Of de bestuurder zelf een laadstation plaatst.
Or the driver installs a charging station himself.
Dat privé is.
That is private.
Dat aan zijn woning hangt.
That hangs at his residence.
Additionally, of course, you also have the system.
Laadpaal volgt bestuurder.
Charging station follows driver.
Zeker in Vlaanderen.
Certainly in Flanders.
Hij vindt dat zijn ingang wel.
He thinks that's his entrance.
Kan je dat kort even uitleggen?
Can you explain that briefly?
Ja absoluut.
Yes absolutely.
Er is een website.
There is a website.
If you Google that, you will find it.
Waar een bestuurder kan zeggen.
Where a driver can say.
Ik zou graag willen laden.
I would like to load.
I have purchased and ordered an electric vehicle.
Dat komt eraan.
It's coming.
Binnen een straal van 200 meter.
Within a radius of 200 meters.
Of 500 meter.
Of 500 meters.
Is hier eigenlijk geen laadstation beschikbaar.
There is actually no charging station available here.
Ik kan dat ook niet zetten.
I can't put that either.
Want ik heb geen privéparking.
Because I don't have private parking.
Ik zit hier in mijn entertoir.
I am sitting here in my entertainment room.
Mijn gemeente ondersteunt dat niet.
My municipality does not support that.
I can apply for a Flemish tender.
En een laadpaal gaan inplanten.
And to install a charging station.
Daar in de buurt.
There nearby.
Dat wordt dan een publieke laadpaal weliswaar.
That will indeed be a public charging station.
But then a charging station will be installed there.
Die gebruikt kan worden.
That can be used.
Door buurtwoners.
By neighborhood residents.
Maar als ik het goed begrijp.
But if I understand correctly.
There are options for people who cannot install a charging station at home.
Zowel als het van de gemeente mag.
As long as it is permitted by the municipality.
Gewoon met een kabel.
Just with a cable.
Or you can simply request a public charging station.
Zeker.
Certainly.
En dat begint nogmaals.
And that starts again.
You are getting the hang of it more and more.
En zeker in Vlaanderen.
And certainly in Flanders.
In that regard, you can see a significant growth of public charging stations.
Semi publieke laadstations.
Semi-public charging stations.
Supermarkten.
Supermarkets.
Die laadstations beginnen te zetten.
Those charging stations are starting to be set up.
Where you can also go after opening hours.
En ook snelladers.
And also fast chargers.
So that definitely offers a bit more flexibility.
Nu zijn er gewoon veel meer opties.
Now there are simply many more options.
Zeker in Vlaanderen.
Certainly in Flanders.
Om flexibeler aan de slag te gaan.
To work more flexibly.
And to ensure that you can load.
En zoals ik straks al zei.
And as I mentioned earlier.
Je basisbehoefte thuis afdekt.
Covering your basic needs at home.
Als het mogelijk is.
If it is possible.
En daarnaast met flexibiliteit kunt spelen.
And besides, you can play with flexibility.
In publiek laden.
Loading in public.
En in dc laden.
And in DC loading.
En niet te vergeten.
And not to forget.
De golden rule.
The golden rule.
Always be charging.
Altijd opladen.
So every time you have the chance.
Ergens een laadstationnetje ziet.
Seeing a little charging station somewhere.
Insteken en bijladen.
Insert and load.
That is the golden rule of electric drivers.
Ik vind dat een zeer goed punt.
I think that's a very good point.
Which seamlessly brings me to my next question.
Want always be charging.
Always want to be charging.
Dus altijd laden.
So always load.
De zonnepanelen.
The solar panels.
Dat is ook zoiets wat mensen zeggen.
That's also something people say.
Ik heb zonnepanelen. Ik kan gratis laden.
I have solar panels. I can charge for free.
Hoe realistisch is dat?
How realistic is that?
En twee. Kan dat überhaupt?
And two. Is that even possible?
Laden met je zonnepanelen.
Loading with your solar panels.
Zeker dat kan.
Sure, that can be done.
Er zijn verschillende situaties natuurlijk.
There are of course different situations.
People with solar panels who still have a reversing meter.
Maakt het op zich niet veel uit.
It doesn't really matter much in itself.
En ze kunnen eigenlijk s'nachts.
And they can actually at night.
For all intents and purposes, they're going to recharge their battery.
Want hun teller draait terug gedurende de nacht.
Because their meter resets during the night.
Auto opladen.
Car charging.
Dus dat is een eerste aspect.
So that is a first aspect.
And in addition, people who already have a digital meter.
And that is definitely coming in the coming years.
Tegen eind 2025.
By the end of 2025.
Komt die digitale teller eraan.
Is that digital meter coming?
En dan moet je inderdaad gaan zien.
And then you really have to see it.
Dat je laat op het moment.
That you are late at the moment.
Dat de zonnepanelen produceren.
That the solar panels produce.
En dat is een beetje een aspect.
And that's a bit of an aspect.
Wat je ofwel manueel kan gaan doen.
What you can either do manually.
You are going at a time when there is indeed a lot of sun.
Die wagen in de laadpaal gaan connecteren.
That car is going to connect to the charging station.
En die op die moment laden.
And that is loading at that moment.
Dat is één mogelijkheid.
That is one possibility.
En dat zijn meer slimmere oplossingen.
And those are smarter solutions.
Die dat dan eigenlijk gaan detecteren.
Those that are actually going to detect that.
At the moment when there is sufficient injection.
Then the vehicle will start loading.
Waar je wel rekening mee moet houden.
What you should keep in mind.
Dat is natuurlijk dat.
That is of course that.
If you have a charging point of, for example, 11 kilowatts.
Is de kans zeer klein.
The chance is very small.
That you can deliver 11 kilowatts from your solar panels.
And so you actually get a mix.
Van pv productie.
From PV production.
En afname van het net.
And a reduction of the grid.
Vaak is die afname van het net.
Often, there is a decrease in the network.
Vijf dagen op zeven.
Five days a week.
Is dat eigenlijk dagtarief.
Is that actually a daily rate?
Ik kan me overdenken.
I can reflect on myself.
If I have a combination of PV production.
En dagtarief.
A daily rate.
Is that still cheaper than a nighttime rate?
Misschien is het gewoon goedkoper.
Maybe it's just cheaper.
Om s'nachts te gaan laden.
To load at night.
Dus je hebt een bepaalde verhouding nodig.
So you need a certain ratio.
Van een minimum productie.
Of a minimum production.
Voordat het eigenlijk efficiënt wordt.
Before it actually becomes efficient.
Of financieel interessant wordt.
Or becomes financially interesting.
Om te gaan laden.
To go load.
Met die zonnepanelen.
With those solar panels.
I did a calculation for someone yesterday.
Dat lag ongeveer rond de 25%.
That was around 25%.
Maybe where it is also a little higher.
Maar een minimum van 25%
But a minimum of 25%
Van productie voor het laatvermogen.
From production for the late power.
Moet je toch rekenen.
You still have to calculate.
Als je daaronder zit.
If you're underneath that.
The chance is small that you will make a good financial deal.
Oké.
Okay.
Hoor ik je nou zeggen.
Am I hearing you say that?
That in many cases it is more advantageous to load simply at night.
Is that actually the best time to charge your car?
Tijdens de winter wel.
During the winter, yes.
Omdat je daar regelmatig zal moeten gaan onderbreken.
Because you will have to interrupt there regularly.
Het is niet continu zon.
It's not sunny all the time.
Dus dat is heel lastig.
So that is very difficult.
And you just don't want to deal with that.
Afhankelijk van vermogen.
Depending on capacity.
Je moet rekenen dat in principe
You must take into account that in principle
de zonnepanelen produceren 3 kwart
The solar panels produce three quarters.
of the full capacity between April and September.
Dus dat is eigenlijk
So that is actually
de moment dat je veel
the moment that you have a lot
zonneproductie hebt.
solar production you have.
And that you can actually go sunbathing perfectly.
But in winter I often wouldn't make that effort.
Unless it's really a very sunny day.
Omdat je regelmatig onderbrekingen
Because you regularly have interruptions.
gaat hebben van de productie.
will have from the production.
Of zeer lage productie.
Of very low production.
Waardoor je dan onder die 25%
Which causes you to be under that 25%
grens gaat dalen.
border will decrease.
And that it becomes more interesting to charge at night.
Ja, het klinkt complex.
Yes, it sounds complex.
Maar
But
er zijn al toepassingen. Ik zou het zeggen.
There are already applications. I would say so.
Die oefening die Peter eigenlijk
That exercise that Peter actually
net uitlegde. Die dat voor jou automatiseren.
just explained. That will automate that for you.
En dat is voor mij ook
And that is for me too.
hetgeen waar we naartoe moeten.
what we need to go towards.
Financieel gezien moet het kloppen uiteraard.
Financially, it has to be correct, of course.
And it should be advantageous to load.
En straks ook. Je mag niet over je vermogen gaan.
And soon as well. You must not exceed your capacity.
Dus je hebt een DLB
So you have a DLB.
of Dynamic Load Balancing.
of Dynamic Load Balancing.
Of iets anders. Maar dus ook voor
Or something else. But also for
zonneladen bestaan er al toepassingen.
There are already applications for solar charging.
Die die calculatie
That calculation
die Peter net uitlegde.
that Peter just explained.
That comparison of "oh, I have enough power."
I won't take too much from the net.
Die dat eigenlijk van jou overnemen.
They actually take that over from you.
So that you don't have to worry about it.
En dus
And so
That is something that is already emerging.
Ik denk dat er vandaag al redelijk
I think that there is already quite a bit today.
applicaties beschikbaar zijn.
applications are available.
Al dan niet verbonden met je wagen.
Whether or not connected to your car.
Of met je laadstation.
Or with your charging station.
En die stromingen die we daarin zien.
And the currents that we see in that.
Maar die maken eigenlijk
But they actually make
and that is where we need to go for me.
Dat je er als gebruiker of bestuurder
That you are there as a user or manager.
niet moet over nadenken.
don't have to think about it.
Voor mij het doel is. Je komt thuis.
For me, the goal is. You come home.
Zes uur, zeven uur.
Six o'clock, seven o'clock.
Eight o'clock if you've worked very hard.
Je steekt je stekker in.
You plug in your plug.
De elektronica regelt alles.
The electronics control everything.
De elektronica.
The electronics.
De sturing regelt alles.
The steering controls everything.
En daar heb je verschillende stromingen in.
And there you have different currents in it.
You indeed have to go via a charging station.
En bepaalde laadstations
And certain charging stations
die daar layers van software aan
that adds layers of software there
en die daar voor jou kunnen sturen.
and that can send it to you there.
Maar recent zien we daar ook
But recently we also see there
eigenlijk een beetje een tweede beweging in.
actually a bit of a second movement in.
Where we on our part also a little
mee bezig zijn. En dat is eigenlijk te gaan sturen
being busy with it. And that's actually to start directing.
via de wagen zelf.
via the car itself.
Iedere elektrische wagen
Every electric car
is vandaag uitgerust met een simkaart.
is equipped today with a SIM card.
Die heeft ook zelf een app.
They also have their own app.
Where you can start to see certain things.
En dus
And so
je kan eigenlijk daar ook op connecteren.
You can actually connect there as well.
If the constructor naturally chooses to use that data
vrij te geven. Maar er zijn wel redelijk wat
to be released. But there are quite a few
constructeurs die dat doen.
constructors who do that.
And you can actually do that way too.
perfect gaan sturen. En start-stopsignalen
perfect going to send. And start-stop signals
gaan geven. Rekening houden
to give. Take into account
trouwens met
by the way with
de state of charge van de batterij.
the state of charge of the battery.
Dus de stand van de batterij.
So the state of the battery.
Om zo ook intelligent te gaan opladen.
To charge intelligently this way as well.
So as a user, you will just say
oké, voila. Mijn vast schema is
Okay, here it is. My fixed schedule is
7 uur morgens moet mijn batterij
My battery must be at 7 in the morning.
op 80% staan.
to be at 80%.
En voor de rest, bekijk het maar.
And for the rest, just check it out.
En optimaliseer op basis van
And optimize based on
het energietarief,
the energy rate,
vermogen, beschikbaarheid van zon.
capacity, availability of sun.
En dus de app neemt
And so the app takes
de rest eigenlijk over.
the rest actually about.
Je spreekt nu van een app.
You are now talking about an app.
Die bestaat naast de wallbox dan?
Does it exist alongside the wallbox then?
Of naast het laadstation thuis?
Or next to the charging station at home?
Je hebt daar eigenlijk twee stromingen in.
There are actually two currents in that.
Of three currents, I will put it this way.
Je hebt apps die gaan connecteren
You have apps that will connect.
via de wagen zelf.
via the car itself.
Je gaat eigenlijk
You're actually going
een plugin doen op de cloud service
to do a plugin on the cloud service
die de wagen en het merk zelf
that the car and the brand itself
aanbiedt. Dan heeft het
offers. Then it has the
het grote voordeel dat je
the big advantage that you
de info rond de batterij kan krijgen.
get the information about the battery.
And so you actually know at every moment
de auto van Peter
Peter's car
of de auto van Steven. Die van Peter staat
or Steven's car. Peter's one is parked.
op 10%, die van Steven staat op
at 10%, that of Steven is at
40% en ik moet morgen vroeg
40% and I have to get up early tomorrow.
om 7 uur op 80% staan.
to be at 80% at 7 o'clock.
Dus je kan eigenlijk gaan
So you can actually go.
nadenken. Er zit een
thinking. There is a
algoritme achter die gaat zeggen
algorithm behind that is going to say
ik kan hier de laden gaan inplannen.
I can start planning the drawers here.
Taking that into account, especially if you are going to combine that.
met de info van een energieleverancier
with the information from an energy supplier
kan je gaan rekening houden met
can you take into account
oké, ik weet dat Steven
Okay, I know that Steven.
dat hij een
that he a
tweevoudig uurtarief heeft, dat hij
has a double hourly rate, that he
zijn daaltarief, dat hij begint om 10 uur
his lower rate, that he starts at 10 o'clock
en dus ik kan
and so I can
voor Steven het mogelijk maken om
to make it possible for Steven to
te beginnen laden om 10 uur
to start loading at 10 o'clock
and so he can take advantage of a cheaper
prijs om te gaan laden. Dus dat is de eerste
price to start charging. So that's the first one.
stroming en via de wagen. Dan heb je
flow and by car. Then you have
inderdaad via het laadstation, dus de laadstations
indeed through the charging station, so the charging stations
producenten van laadstations
producers of charging stations
they usually also offer an app
of er zijn er toch redelijk wat
or there are quite a few after all
die dat aanbieden. Waar dat
those that offer that. Where that
je ook wel wat sturingen mee kan
you can also take some guidance with you
gaan doen. Nadeel daar
going to do. Disadvantage there
Today is a bit like you for me.
not that state of charge, so the battery
info hebt en dat
info and that
je dikwijls iedere keer via de app
you often every time via the app
gaan moeten definiëren, oké ik wil
will have to define, okay I want
100 kilometer bijladen, ik wil 200 kilometer
100 kilometers of charging, I want 200 kilometers.
loading or that you need to set that up.
That is also a small share, a bit connected.
aan die oplossing. En dan daarnaast
to that solution. And then besides
als derde heb je eigenlijk
as a third you actually have
een beetje, ik zou zeggen
a little bit, I would say
applicaties die doorkomen vanuit het huis
applications coming through from the house
vanuit HEMS zoals ze dat noemen
from HEMS as they call it
Home Energy Management
Home Energy Management
en die die wagen gaan integreren
and those who will integrate that vehicle
in het ecosysteem van
in the ecosystem of
een modern huis. En die die gaan
a modern house. And those who go
combineren met warmtepomp
combining with heat pump
en met eventueel andere assets die
and possibly other assets that
in that house being and that will ensure that
er een optimale sturing is
there is an optimal control
van wagen, van warmtepomp
from car, from heat pump
in combinatie met zonnepanelen
in combination with solar panels
die op die manier de regeling
that regulates it in that way
gaan doen. En die eigenlijk losstaan
going to do. And that are actually separate
van wagen of laadstation
from vehicle or charging station
maar meestal wel gaan integreren
but usually do integrate
daar. Want dat is iets waar wij
there. Because that's something that we
for example also advocating and that is actually
dat de data liefst zo open
that the data preferably so open
mogelijk is, zodanig dat je
possible is, such that you
zo gestandardiseerd mogelijk
as standardized as possible
is liefst. Ze zullen het bij de constructeurs
is preferred. They will discuss it with the manufacturers.
graag horen, alle data, heet maar vrij.
I would like to hear, all data, feel free to share.
Yes, but Europe is also on board with that.
bezig trouwens, want ja
By the way, busy because yes.
we weten waar we naartoe willen
We know where we want to go.
en waar we naartoe moeten.
and where we need to go.
Dus meer elektrische mobiliteit is toch
So more electric mobility is indeed
wel een pad dat uitgerold wordt
well, a path that is being rolled out
en waar we voor staan.
and what we stand for.
En dus er is wel nood
And so there is indeed a need.
to data also to make that smart
beheren en dat gaan in te passen
manage and incorporate that
in het energetische
in the energetic
ecosysteem en te kunnen afstemmen
ecosystem and to be able to align
op hernieuwbare productie
on renewable production
thuis, maar ook bijvoorbeeld
at home, but also for example
windenergie, etcetera.
wind energy, etcetera.
And for that, the information from the vehicles is needed.
ook komen en moet de info
also coming and the info must
in alle richtingen kunnen stromen.
can flow in all directions.
Je sprak daarnet van die oplossingen.
You just mentioned those solutions.
Wat kost het om zo'n wallbox
What does it cost to get a wallbox like that?
tegen een muur te zetten?
to put against a wall?
What it costs to install a wall box against a wall.
In wallboxen vind je tegenwoordig
In wallboxes you will find these days.
al eerlijk wat variabiliteit
well honestly some variability
qua types wallboxen.
regarding types of wallboxes.
Het gaat vanaf?
Is it starting from?
Instellatie inclusief
Installation included
zullen we rond de 900, 1000,
Shall we aim for around 900, 1000?
I think about 1100 or so for the cheaper types.
En als je
And if you
naar de meer
to the lake
geavanceerde types gaat
advanced types goes
inclusief
including
dynamic load balancing zoals
dynamic load balancing like
Peter heeft uitgelegd, gaat dat wat meer
Peter explained, does that go a bit further?
naar 1700, 2000 euro.
to 1700, 2000 euros.
I think you will start to think in that way.
Inclusief installatie
Including installation
en ook wel de keuring achteraf.
and also the inspection afterwards.
Want bij elke installatie
Because with every installation
is er een wijziging aan je thuis
Is there a change at your home?
elektriciteit, dus aan je
electricity, so to you
installatie thuis en moet dat eigenlijk ook
installation at home and that should actually be
door een keuringsorganisme
by a certification body
goedgekeurd worden en dat alles conform is
to be approved and that everything is in accordance
de regelgeving. En veilig.
the regulations. And safe.
En veilig, inderdaad.
And safe, indeed.
Haal je dat prijsverschil daaruit?
Do you get that price difference from it?
Between a cheap charging station and one like that
load balancing en rekening houden
load balancing and taking into account
with home management and solar panels, what do I know about everything?
Load balancing is more for the upcoming year.
It is more comfort that you are going to do that.
Financieel ga je daar weinig waarde
Financially, you will find little value there.
uittrekken. Het gaat vooral omwille
to withdraw. It's mainly for the sake of
from the fact that you are not going to secure yourself
jump and that you do it twice an evening
de zekering moet terug gaan aanzetten.
the fuse needs to be turned back on.
Maar er zijn zeker
But there are certainly
voordelen aan, maar het gaat dan vooral
advantages to it, but it is mainly about
wat mij betreft over een comfort
As far as I'm concerned, about comfort.
aspect. Het is een comfort
aspect. It is a comfort
aspect. Er is denk ik ook wel
aspect. I think there is also
the capacity tariff, which we haven't really discussed yet
talking about, but where you have load
balancing ook wel een beetje gaat kunnen
balancing will also be able to do a little bit
combineren of aflakken
combine or topcoat
afhankelijk van.
depending on.
And there is another aspect we need to discuss.
not going to talk about yet and that I
ook wel nodig is en dat is de
is also necessary and that is the
facturatie van thuislaadkosten.
invoicing of home charging costs.
Die elektrische wagens die vandaag geleverd worden
The electric cars that are being delivered today.
die worden voornamelijk geleverd
those are mainly supplied
in een B2B context, in een leasing
in a B2B context, in a leasing
context en dus die energie
context and thus that energy
die thuis opgeladen wordt,
that is charged at home,
die wordt geërfactureerd
that will be invoiced
aan het bedrijf en de bestuurder
to the company and the director
en krijgt die centjes terug.
and gets that money back.
En dus om dat te kunnen spelen
And so to be able to play that.
heb je, wat dat ze noemen,
do you have what they call,
een slim laadstation nodig
a smart charging station needed
of is er communicatie nodig in uw laadstation
Is communication needed at your charging station?
om dat te kunnen meten
to be able to measure that
and in order to actually run that service.
That's already a bit of a spoiler alert, of course.
for our next episode, because that's what we're going to talk about
over de kosten, over dat
about the costs, about that
energiecapaciteitstarief en dergelijke meer.
energy capacity rate and such more.
I actually have one more question for this.
aflevering af te ronden
to complete the episode
en die is voor Peter.
and that is for Peter.
Want wij horen heel veel
Because we hear a lot
belovende signalen over vehicle
promising signals about vehicle
to load, dus dat je eigenlijk in twee richtingen
to load, so that you are actually in two directions
je auto kan gebruiken als thuisbatterij.
you can use your car as a home battery.
Vertel eens, hoever staan we daar nu mee?
Tell me, how far are we with that now?
Het staat nog in zijn kinderschoenen.
It is still in its infancy.
Bidirectioneel laden
Bidirectional charging
eerst en vooral
first and foremost
There are very few charging points that do that today.
toelaten, ook weinig merken die het
allow, also few brands that do it
vandaag nog toelaten.
Allow today as well.
We are also conducting research ourselves.
om te bekijken in welke
to see in which
context and in what situation that is interesting
gegeven kan zijn. Dus daar
may be given. So there
is nog heel veel noodzaak
is still a lot of necessity
tot onderzoek om de juiste
for research to the right
situatie te vinden wanneer dat
to find a situation when that
inderdaad nuttig kan zijn. Vehicle to load
indeed can be useful. Vehicle to load
is een heel interessant aspect
is a very interesting aspect
waarbij dat je je wagen eigenlijk
whereby you actually place your vehicle
can be used as a kind of battery when you
ergens in the middle of nowhere staat.
somewhere in the middle of nowhere stands.
Dat kan een interessant
That can be interesting.
gegeven zijn. We hebben zoal dingen gezien,
given. We have seen things such as,
filmpjes zien, of iemand die
watching videos, or someone who
Fries are being fried in the parking lot.
We hebben zelfs al een koffiemachine aangesloten.
We have already connected a coffee machine.
We kennen het maar
We only know it.
ik vroeg me gewoon af, want dat is natuurlijk
I was just wondering, because that is of course
dan heb je gewoon een rijdende thuisbatterij.
Then you simply have a mobile home battery.
Dat is vehicle to load. Dat is vehicle to load.
That is vehicle to load. That is vehicle to load.
En dan is het
And then it is
vehicle to home of vehicle to grid.
vehicle to home or vehicle to grid.
Vehicle to grid is eigenlijk het ontladen
Vehicle to grid is actually the discharging.
in het net. En daar
in the net. And there
gaat het eigenlijk vooral om het
is it actually mainly about it
supporting the network and receiving a compensation for that
voor te gaan krijgen. En dan
to get ahead. And then
vehicle to home is eigenlijk zoals je daarnet
Vehicle to home is actually like you just did.
zei, je batterij van je wagen
said, your car battery
gaan gebruiken voor het koken, voor
to be used for cooking, for
to run the washing machine and such things.
We zijn daar voorlopig
We are there for now.
nog een beetje sceptisch in, omdat we
a little bit skeptical about it, because we
in vehicle to home zien dat
in vehicle to home see that
typisch een woning een zeer laag
typically a home a very low
vermogen heeft in
power has in
stand-by verbruik. En als we dus
standby consumption. And if we therefore
kijken naar de woning, als het
looking at the property, if it
vermogen laag ligt van het verbruik,
power low lies from the consumption,
dan ga je ook ontladen
Then you will also discharge.
aan een laag vermogen. En herinner
at a low power. And remember
wat ik daarstraks heb gezegd over
what I just said about
lage vermogens, efficiëntie gaat naar beneden
low power, efficiency goes down
en dan moet je eigenlijk gaan kijken
and then you actually need to take a look
