En het thema heeft u al geraden natuurlijk, want we hebben al een keer of tien gezongen, God is goed.
And you have already guessed the theme, of course, because we have sung "God is good" about ten times already.
En daar willen we bij stilstaan deze middag en natuurlijk kijken wat het woord van God daarover zegt tegen ons.
And we want to take a moment to reflect on that this afternoon and of course see what the word of God says about it to us.
En ja, als we dat horen, God is goed, dan komen er heel veel mensen allerlei gedachten en vragen op.
And yes, when we hear that, God is good, many people have all kinds of thoughts and questions.
En soms ook een beetje vrevel, van is God nou wel zo goed?
And sometimes also a bit of grievance, is God really that good?
We hebben net in de lidder ook gezongen, een aantal karaktertrekken van God, hoe hij is.
We just sang in the service about a number of character traits of God, how He is.
Hij is genadig en barmhartig en hij is vol van liefde en genade.
He is gracious and merciful, and he is full of love and grace.

Wat gebeurde er nou?

Wat gebeurde er nou in het leven van Asaf in deze psalm?

Hij kan daar niet mee omgaan.

Asaf, die snapt daar heel veel van.

Hij zegt tegen God ook, heren, hoe kan dat nou?
He also says to God, "Lord, how can that be?"

Financieel gaat het ze goed.
They are doing well financially.
In hun gezinnen gaat het allemaal goed.
In their families, everything is going well.
Met hun gezondheid gaat het allemaal goed.
Their health is all good.
En hoe kan het nou heren dat het met mij zo moeilijk is.
And how is it possible, gentlemen, that it is so difficult for me?
En dat het voor mij zo moeizaam is.
And that it is so difficult for me.
Deze psalm die we gelezen hebben, die had vandaag geschreven kunnen zijn.
This psalm that we have read could have been written today.
Want dit zijn gevoelens en gedachten die niet alleen toen voortkwamen, maar die wij ook kennen.

Soms kun je het moeilijk hebben met het handelen van God.

Of het niet handelen van God.
Or the non-action of God.
En komen er allerlei vraagtekens op.
And various question marks arise.
En soms zelfs.
And sometimes even.
Boosheid.
Anger.
Soms zelfs onbegrip.
Sometimes even misunderstanding.
En het kan zo ver gaan, en dat zien we bij Asaf ook in deze psalm verderop.

Dat hij bijna zijn geloof verliest.

Dat hij bijna God de rug toekeert.
That he almost turns his back on God.
En dat hij bijna het maar afzweert, want wat heb ik daar dan aan.

Asaf was eigenlijk de hoofd muzikale leiding bij koning David.
Asaf was actually the chief musical director under King David.
En in de tempel en bij de tabernakel.
And in the temple and at the tabernacle.
Asaf had een hoge positie in het koninkrijk van David.
Asaf had a high position in the kingdom of David.
Asaf was ook de persoonlijke muzikant van David.
Asaf was also David's personal musician.
Asaf stond dus dicht bij de troon.
Asaf stood close to the throne.
Dicht bij de troon van David.
Close to the throne of David.
Hij was lefiet.
He was brave.
Er staat in 1 Kroniken 16.

Bij de plek waar God woonde.

Maar weet u, weet je.

Dat betekende niet dat Asaf geen geloofstrijd had.

Hij snapte God helemaal niet meer.
He didn't understand God at all anymore.
Hij begreep helemaal niets meer van God.
He didn't understand anything about God anymore.
Hij worstelde met het voorspoed van de goddelozen.
He struggled with the prosperity of the wicked.
Ten opzichte van de moeite van de gelovigen.
In relation to the struggles of the believers.
En dat maakte hem aan het twijfelen.
And that made him doubt.
Aan het nut van zijn geloof.
To the benefit of his faith.
Wat heb ik er nou aan?

Hij heeft het bijna opgegeven.
He almost gave up.
Zegt vers 2.

En eigenlijk is dat een moderne vraag.

En dan niet morgen of overmorgen, maar nu.

Wat kan ik daar nu mee?

En wat levert het mij nu op?

Veel mensen zitten met die vragen.
Many people are grappling with those questions.
Ook als het om geloof gaat.
Even when it comes to faith.
Over onze relatie met de Heere God.
About our relationship with the Lord God.
En velen die daarin terecht komen, hebben dat opgegeven.
And many who end up in it have given that up.
Want hier staat dan vers 2 zegt Aasaf.
For here verse 2 says Asaph.
Ik was bijna uitgegleden en mijn scheden waren haast uitgeschoten.
I almost slipped and my pants were nearly torn.
Nou er zijn velen in deze tijd die zijn uitgegleden en zijn gevallen en die niet meer opgestaan zijn.
Well, there are many in these times who have slipped and fallen and who have not gotten up again.
En die de Heere God afgezworen hebben.

I don't need such a God.
Die de slechte mens zegent en de goede strafst, die hoef ik niet.

Daar kan ik niet mee uit de voeten.

Daar kan ik niet mee leven.

Die God, die zweer ik af.

Dat is de gedachte die je vindt bij veel mensen.

In many church groups or congregations, the human being is central.

Weet u, God laat geloofsstrijd toe in ons leven.
You know, God allows faith struggles in our lives.
Dat laat Hij toe.
He allows that.
Hij kan wat best verhinderen.
He can prevent quite a bit.
Maar Hij laat dat toe in ons leven.
But He allows that in our lives.
Geestelijke strijd.
Spiritual struggle.
En dat doet Hij niet zodat wij Hem verlaten.
And He does not do this so that we abandon Him.
Dat doet Hij niet met de bedoeling dat wij Hem de rug toe keren.
He does not do this with the intention that we turn our backs on Him.
Dat doet Hij niet met de bedoeling om ons te ontmoedigen.
He doesn't do that with the intention of discouraging us.
Maar Hij doet dat met de bedoeling om ons aan zijn hart te drukken.
But He does this with the intention of impressing upon us.
Hij doet dat met de bedoeling dat wij naar Hem terug zullen gaan.
He does that with the intention that we will return to Him.
Dat wij...
That we...
Ons opnieuw tot Hem zullen wenden.
We will turn back to Him again.
En dat we het van Hem zullen verwachten.
And that we will expect it from Him.
En dat wij al onze hoop op Hem zullen stellen.
And that we will place all our hope in Him.
Want tot wie anders zullen we gaan dan tot Hem en tot de Heerde Jezus Christus?
For who else shall we go to but to Him and to the Lord Jesus Christ?
Dat gebeurde in het leven van Asaf.
That happened in the life of Asaf.
En daarom komt hij tot de conclusie.
And that is why he comes to the conclusion.
En daarom kan hij zeggen in vers 1.
And that's why he can say in verse 1.
Ja, God is goed.
Yes, God is good.
Dat was niet zomaar iets.
That was not just anything.
Maar dat heeft hij ervaren door de diepte van zijn leven.
But he has experienced that through the depth of his life.
Door alles wat hij mee heeft gemaakt.
Through everything he has experienced.
Door hoe het allemaal ging.
Because of how it all went.
En hij heeft ervaren dat de Heer hem vasthield.
And he has experienced that the Lord held him.
En dat de Heer hem terug leidde.
And that the Lord led him back.
En daarom zegt hij God is goed.
And that is why he says God is good.
Niet omdat hij het mij zo makkelijk maakt.
Not because he makes it so easy for me.
Maar omdat hij mij vasthoudt in de diepte van de nood en van de ellende.
But because he holds me in the depths of need and misery.
En omdat hij mij daardoor leidt.
And because he leads me through that.
En omdat hij mij helpt en leidt in alle dingen.
And because he helps and guides me in all things.
God is goed, zegt Psalm 73.
God is good, says Psalm 73.
Ja, God is goed voor Israël, staat er.
Yes, God is good for Israel, it says.
Ja, Israël was en is Gods eerste liefde.
Yes, Israel was and is God's first love.
En Israël blijft Gods eerste liefde.
And in Israel, God's first love remains.

En ook nu is Israël Gods oogappel.
And even now, Israel is God's chosen one.

En die het van hem verwacht.
And those who expect it from him.
Hier staat niet, God is goed voor wie volmaakt is.
It does not say here, God is good to those who are perfect.
Er staat niet, God is goed voor ieder die het allemaal goed doet.
It doesn't say, God is good to everyone who does everything right.
Voor ieder die oprecht is.
For everyone who is sincere.
God is volmaakt voor ieder die eerlijk is.
God is perfect for everyone who is honest.
Nee.
No.
God is goed voor hen die zuiver van hart zijn.
God is good to those who are pure in heart.
Wat is nu zuiver van hart?
What is now pure of heart?
Zuiver van hart betekent dat als we het moeilijk hebben, als we strijd hebben,
Pure of heart means that when we are struggling, when we are in conflict,
dat wij met ons hart naar hem toe gaan.
that we go to him with our hearts.
Dat wij ons hart voor hem openen.
That we open our hearts to him.
Dat wij ons hart voor hem uitstorten.
That we pour out our hearts for him.
En dat hij aan het werk kan daarmee.
And that he can work with that.
En dat we beleiden dat we het van hem verwachten.
And that we confess that we expect it from him.
God is goed voor hen die een zuiver hart hebben.
God is good to those who have a pure heart.
Die het van hem verwachten.
Those who expect it from him.
En die het naar hem verlangen.
And those who long for him.
God is geïnteresseerd in ons hart.
God is interested in our heart.
God is geïnteresseerd in jouw hart.
God is interested in your heart.
God houdt van mensen.
God loves people.
En God houdt van jou.
And God loves you.
En God houdt van jouw hart.
And God loves your heart.
Hij wil dat je hem lief hebt.
He wants you to love him.
En dat je naar hem luistert.
And that you listen to him.
En dat je doet wat hij zegt.
And that you do what he says.
Dat je doet wat hij vraagt.
That you do what he asks.
En dat je zult ervaren.
And that you will experience.
Ja, God is goed.
Yes, God is good.
Want hij helpt mij in alle dingen.
Because he helps me in all things.
En hij is altijd bij mij.
And he is always with me.
Maar als je staat voor hen die zuiver van hart zijn,
But if you stand before those who are pure of heart,
dan kan het ook anders.
then it can be different too.
Dan kan het ook zo zijn dat mensen hun hart niet zuiver hebben.
Then it may also be the case that people do not have pure hearts.
Maar dat zij een hart hebben wat besmet is.
But that they have a heart that is infected.
Dat zij een hart hebben waar dingen in zijn die niet goed zijn.

Als dat zo is, dan mogen we ook tot hem gaan.

And then he restores the relationship.
En dan gaat hij weer met ons verder.
And then he continues with us again.
We hebben zo'n genade en warmhartig God.
We have such a gracious and compassionate God.
Daar kun je altijd bij terugkomen.
You can always come back to that.
Met alle dingen.
With all things.
En hij ruimt het allemaal op.
And he cleans it all up.
En hij doet het allemaal weg.
And he gets rid of it all.
En dan zegt hij opnieuw, ik hou van je.
And then he says again, I love you.
En ik wil met je verder.
And I want to move forward with you.
Asaf had geen zuiver hart.
Asaf did not have a pure heart.
Dat blijkt wel.
That proves to be the case.
Want we lezen in vers 3 wat er in zijn hart omging.
For we read in verse 3 what was going on in his heart.
Jaloersheid.
Jealousy.
Zijn hart was gevuld met jaloersheid.
His heart was filled with jealousy.
En dat had gevolg in zijn leven.
And that had consequences in his life.
Dat had gevolg voor zijn relatie met God.
That had consequences for his relationship with God.
Dat blijkt in de hele psalm.
That is evident throughout the entire psalm.
Doordat hij de jaloersheid toeliet in zijn leven, in zijn hart, raakte hij verder van God af.
By allowing jealousy in his life, in his heart, he drifted further away from God.
En ging zijn relatie met God.
And his relationship with God.
Zijn relatie met God leed daaronder.
His relationship with God suffered as a result.
Niet zijn zaligheid hoor.
Not his bliss, you know.
Niet onze zaligheid leidt eronder als wij ongehoorzaam zijn.
It is not our salvation that suffers when we are disobedient.
Maar onze relatie met hem.
But our relationship with him.
Want onze zaligheid ligt vast in het bloed van de Heer Jezus Christus.
For our salvation is secured in the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Dat ligt daar vast.
That is probably fixed there.
Dat kan niemand wegnemen.
No one can take that away.
Daar kan niemand bij.
No one can get to that.
Daar kan niemand aan.
No one can argue with that.
Wie tot geloof is gekomen in de Heer Jezus Christus, is vast en zeker onveranderlijk een kind van God.
Whoever has come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is certainly and unchangingly a child of God.
En voor hem ligt de zaligheid klaar.
And for him, salvation is ready.
Asaf was boos.
Asaf was angry.
Asaf was jaloers.
Asaf was jealous.
En dat leed, daaronder leed zijn relatie met God.
And that suffering, underneath that suffering was his relationship with God.
Dat is ook logisch.
That makes sense too.
Want als er zonde in ons hart is.
For if there is sin in our hearts.
Als er dingen in ons zijn die niet goed zijn.
If there are things in us that are not good.
Dan leidt onze relatie met God daar toch ook door.
Then our relationship with God is also influenced by that.
Dan is hij toch verder weg.
Then he is further away.
Dan ga je ook niet zo makkelijk meer naar hem toe.
Then you won't easily go to him anymore.
Je zou kunnen zeggen.
You could say.
Als wij zonde toelaten in ons leven, dan raak je het zicht op God kwijt.
If we allow sin into our lives, we lose sight of God.
Dan zie je hem niet meer.
Then you won't see him anymore.
Dan zie je hem niet goed meer.
Then you can't see him properly anymore.
Dan is je relatie niet goed meer.
Then your relationship is not good anymore.
Je zaligheid misschien wel, maar je relatie zeker niet.
Your salvation perhaps, but not your relationship for sure.
Dan zie je de dingen niet meer zoals ze werkelijk zijn.
Then you no longer see things as they truly are.
Als de relatie is verstoord, zie je de dingen niet meer zoals God ze ziet.
When the relationship is disturbed, you no longer see things as God sees them.
Dan is dat vertroebeld.
Then it is clouded.
Dan ben je dat zicht kwijt.
Then you lose that perspective.
Hoe ons hart is, dat heeft gevolgen voor onze relatie met hem.
How our heart is, that has consequences for our relationship with him.
Als ons hart niet zuiver is, vermoeilijkt dat onze relatie met hem.
If our heart is not pure, it complicates our relationship with him.
David kende dat ook.
David knew that too.
En David spreekt daar ook over in verschillende psalmen.
And David also speaks about it in various psalms.

Waardoor? Door de zonde.
Why? Because of sin.
Notabene was hij daarvoor een relatie begonnen met Bathsheba.
Notably, he had started a relationship with Bathsheba before that.
Vind je het gek dat dat de relatie met God vertroebeld is?
Do you find it strange that the relationship with God is clouded?
Dat is moeilijk he?
That's difficult, isn't it?
Vind je het gek dat als hij daarmee bezig ging.
Do you think it's strange that when he started doing that?
Dat de Heere God zich terug trok aan hem.
That the Lord God withdrew from him.
Die vreugde bij David, die ging weg omdat zijn hart niet meer zuiver was.
That joy in David went away because his heart was no longer pure.
Hij raakte het zicht op God kwijt.
He lost sight of God.
Hij raakte het zicht op de plan van God kwijt.
He lost sight of God's plan.
Matthijs 5 vers 8 zegt, zalig zijn de reinen van hart, want zij zullen God zien.
Matthew 5:8 says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."
Zij zullen God zien.
They will see God.
Zalig zijn de reinen van hart, want zij zullen God zien.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Als ons hart zuiver is voor God, dan ga je God zien.
If our heart is pure before God, then we will see God.
En dan ga je Hem meer en meer zien.
And then you will see Him more and more.

And then you will experience Him, then you will understand Him.
Dan ga je merken dat Hij werkt in je leven en in al je dingen.
Then you will notice that He is working in your life and in all your matters.
Dan gaat Hij je helpen en leiden.
Then He will help and guide you.
Weet u, er is een verband tussen ons hart en ons geloof en onze relatie met God.
You know, there is a connection between our heart and our faith and our relationship with God.
En daar wil de Heere ook aan werken.
And that is what the Lord wants to work on as well.
Een onzuiver, een onrein hart vertoepelt het zicht op Hem en neemt zegen weg.
An impure, an unclean heart distorts the vision of Him and removes blessing.
Maar met een zuiver hart, zegt het woord van God, ga je God zien.
But with a pure heart, says the word of God, you will see God.
Dan ga je Hem ontmoeten en dan gaat Hij in je werken en door je werken.
Then you will meet Him, and He will work in you and through you.
Mag ik u gewoon vragen, hoe is uw hart ten opzichte van God?
May I just ask you, how is your heart towards God?
Hoe is jouw hart?
How is your heart?
Is je hart open naar Hem?
Is your heart open to Him?
Zijn we open en reëel en eerlijk naar Hem?
Are we open and realistic and honest with Him?
Vertellen we Hem wat leeft in ons, wat we moeilijk vinden, wat we fijn vinden misschien.
We tell Him what lives within us, what we find difficult, what we perhaps enjoy.
Maar openen wij ons hart voor Hem, zodat Hij kan werken in ons en door ons.
But we open our hearts to Him, so that He can work in us and through us.
Weet u, als we dat doen, gaat God dat beloven.
You know, if we do that, God will promise that.
Want dan gaat Hij aan het werken.
For then He will get to work.
Dan kan Hij van alles doen.
Then He can do anything.
De Bijbel noemt dat de vrucht van de Geest.
The Bible refers to that as the fruit of the Spirit.
En die gaat werken in ons hart en in ons leven.
And that will work in our heart and in our life.
Dan gaan we liefde ervaren en blijdschap en vrede en geduld en vriendelijkheid, goedheid, geloof, zachtmoedigheid en zelfbeheersing, zegt Paulus tegen de Galaten.
Then we will experience love and joy and peace and patience and kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control, Paul says to the Galatians.
Als je je hart opent voor Hem, gaat dat gebeuren.
If you open your heart to Him, that will happen.
Dan gaat Hij dat doen.
Then He will do that.
Dan kun je van mensen houden die misschien niet van jou houden.
Then you can love people who may not love you back.
Dan kun je van mensen houden die jou misschien iets kwaads hebben aangedaan.
Then you can love people who may have done you some harm.
Omdat het de liefde van God is die in jouw hart, in ons hart leeft.
Because it is the love of God that lives in your heart, in our heart.
En die ons helpt en die ons leidt.
And who helps us and who guides us.
Laten we even teruggaan naar Aasaf.
Let's go back to Asaph for a moment.
Aasaf zegt, God is goed.
Aasaf says, God is good.
Maar in vers 2 tot en met 9 in dat stukje, daar deelt hij met ons hoe moeilijk zijn tijd was.
But in verses 2 to 9 of that section, he shares with us how difficult his time was.
En wat er allemaal is gebeurd in zijn leven.
And everything that has happened in his life.
En waarom hij in zo'n, ja eigenlijk oorspronkelijk in zo'n diepe put terecht kwam.
And why he ended up in such a, well actually originally in such a deep pit.
Hij had een hele moeilijke tijd meegemaakt.
He had gone through a very difficult time.
Het ongeloof had toegeslagen in zijn leven.
Unbelief had struck in his life.
Twijfel was binnengekropen.
Doubt had crept in.
Zijn geloof was hij bijna kwijt.
He had almost lost his faith.
Dat scheelde bijna niks, niet zoveel meer.
That barely made a difference, not much anymore.
Hij was in een periode terecht gekomen waarin hij twijfelde.
He had entered a period in which he doubted.
Waarom doe ik het nog?
Why am I still doing it?
Wat heeft het nou voor zin?
What is the point of it all?
Zou ik er niet maar ook mee stoppen zoals die andere mensen allemaal doen?
Shouldn't I just stop like all those other people do?
Wat heb ik aan God als hij deze dingen toelaat in mijn leven?
What use is God to me if he allows these things in my life?
Wat heb ik aan de Heere God als hij anderen zo zegent en mij niet?
What good is it to me to have the Lord God if He blesses others so and not me?
Nou, we weten iets van de oorzaak van die gedachte.
Well, we know something about the cause of that thought.
Die gedachte heeft een oorzaak.
That thought has a cause.
Die gedachte kwam uit zijn hart.
That thought came from his heart.
In vers 3 staat dat ook.
It also states that in verse 3.
Want ik was jaloers op de dwazen toen ik tevreden was.
For I was jealous of the fools when I was content.
Toen ik de vrede van de Goddelozen zag.
When I saw the peace of the ungodly.
Waarom werd dat hart zo boos van Azaf?
Why did that heart become so angry with Azaf?
Omdat hij lette op de dwazen in de Bijbel.
Because he paid attention to the fools in the Bible.
Dat woord komt vaak voor.
That word occurs often.
In de Bijbel is een dwaas iemand die God niet kent.
In the Bible, a fool is someone who does not know God.
Die naar God niet luistert.
Those who do not listen to God.
Is een ongelovige.
Is an unbeliever.
Dat noemt de Bijbel een dwaas.
The Bible calls that a fool.
Dan zegt hij, want ik was jaloers op de dwazen toen ik de vrede van de Goddelozen zag.
Then he says, for I was jealous of the foolish when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
Azaf lette op de Goddelozen.
Azaf took notice of the wicked.
Hij lette op de ongelovigen.
He paid attention to the unbelievers.
Hij lette op het tijdelijke.
He focused on the temporary.
Hij lette op het aardse.
He paid attention to the earthly.
Hij lette op de voorspoed die die mensen allemaal meemaakten.
He paid attention to the prosperity that those people were all experiencing.
Azaf die keek hoe mensen leefden zonder God.
Azaf who observed how people lived without God.
De Goddelozen.
The wicked.
En toen dacht hij van, die hebben het best goed.
And then he thought, they are doing quite well.
Die Goddelozen.
The Wicked.
Ze hebben geld zat.
They have plenty of money.
Ze hebben plezier.
They are having fun.
Ze hebben geen zorgen.
They have no worries.
En dat zien we tegenwoordig ook.
And we see that nowadays too.
Ze kunnen alles doen wat ze willen.
They can do anything they want.
En wij hebben het zo moeilijk.
And we have it so difficult.
En ze hebben niet eens geloofstrijd.
And they don't even have a faith battle.
Logisch want ze kennen God niet.
Logical because they do not know God.
Ze hebben logisch geen geloofstrijd.
They logically have no religious conflict.
Azaf die dacht van, die hebben het pas gemakkelijk.
Azaf thought, they have it easy.
Die kunnen doen wat ze willen.
They can do whatever they want.
En ze kunnen zeggen wat ze willen.
And they can say what they want.
En ze hoeven zich bij niemand te verantwoorden.
And they do not have to account to anyone.
Ze zijn helemaal vrij.
They are completely free.
Dat was de gedachte.
That was the thought.
En dat gaf Azaf een gevoel van boosheid.
And that gave Azaf a feeling of anger.
En van bitterheid.
And of bitterness.
Waarom geloof ik nog?
Why do I still believe?
Waar doe ik het nog voor?
What am I doing it for?
Ik kan beter stoppen.
I better stop.
In vers 13 zegt hij van Psalm 73.
In verse 13, he says of Psalm 73.
Ja voor niets heb ik mijn hart gezuiverd.
Yes, I have purified my heart for nothing.
En mijn handen in onschuld gewassen.
And my hands washed in innocence.
Want de hele dag word ik gekweld.
Because I'm tormented all day.
En mijn bestraffing is er elke morgen.
And my punishment is there every morning.
Ik heb het allemaal voor niets gedaan.
I did it all for nothing.
Het heeft mij allemaal niets opgeleverd.
It has brought me nothing at all.
Wat Azaf gebeurt kan misschien ons ook wel eens gebeuren.
What happens to Azaf may also happen to us someday.

You can easily be overwhelmed by all the things around you.

Do your own thing.
Je kunt zo bezig zijn met alle aardse dingen.
You can be so caught up in all earthly things.
Dat je het zicht op God kwijtraakt.
That you lose sight of God.
Dat je Hem niet meer ziet.
That you no longer see Him.
En dat je de dingen niet meer ziet zoals God ze ziet.
And that you no longer see things as God sees them.
En dat zien we op veel plaatsen.
And we see that in many places.
Dat je niet meer ziet.
That you can't see anymore.
Dat wij, broerders en zusters.
That we, brothers and sisters.
Gemeente van de Heer Jezus Christus.
Congregation of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Burgers zijn van een rijk.
Citizens are of a realm.
In hemelen.
In heaven.
En niet hier.
And not here.
En dat onze toekomst niet hier ligt.
And that our future does not lie here.
Niet op aarde.
Not on earth.
Maar bij Hem.
But with Him.
Dat dat ons einddoel is.
That that is our end goal.
Als je ziet op de dingen om je heen.
When you look at the things around you.
En op de wereld van vandaag.
And in today's world.
Dan verlies je die hoop.
Then you lose that hope.
Dan verlies je die blijdschap.
Then you lose that joy.
Dan verlies je het zicht op de toekomst.
Then you lose sight of the future.
En heb je al helemaal geen verwachting.
And you have no expectations at all.
Op de komst van de Heer Jezus Christus.
On the arrival of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Dan zak je weg in de moeras.
Then you'll sink away in the swamp.
Zoals Azaf dat overkwam.
As it happened to Azaf.
Dan glij je uit.
Then you slip.
Dan is je vrede weg.
Then your peace is gone.
Maar weet je.
But you know.
Dat is geen hopeloze situatie.
That is not a hopeless situation.
Er is altijd hoop.
There is always hope.
Er is altijd een uitweg.
There is always a way out.
En dat zien we ook bij Azaf.
And we see that with Azaf as well.
Want wat gebeurde er.
Because what happened was.
Toen Azaf deze dingen herkende.
When Azaf recognized these things.
En toen hij zo diep in de put zat.
And when he was so deep in the pit.
Toen ging Azaf.
Then Azaf went.
Hij ging terug.

In gebed.
In prayer.
Tot God.

Hij was nu tot ontdekking gekomen.
He had now made a discovery.

Hij had niets op.
He had nothing on.

But I need the Lord God.

That is full of love.
En vol van hoop.
And full of hope.

And forgiveness of debt.
Azaf ging terug naar God.
Azaf went back to God.
Hij ging terug naar God.
He returned to God.
De Vader.
The Father.
En hij boog voor Hem neer.
And he bowed down before Him.
En weet u.
And you know.
Even kijken.

Vers 17.
Verse 17.
Dan zegt hij.
Then he says.
Totdat ik Gods heiligdom binnenging.
Until I went into God's sanctuary.
En op hun einde lette.
And paid attention to their end.
Azaf ziet het rampzalige einde.
Azaf sees the disastrous end.
Van een mens zonder God.
Of a man without God.
En dat is een rampzalig einde.
And that is a disastrous end.
Hij ziet hun verwoesting.
He sees their destruction.
Hij ziet de verschrikkingen.
He sees the horrors.

Is er geen heerlijkheid.

Maar is de toekomst van die mens.
But is the future of that person.
Is hopeloos.
Is hopeless.
Geen hoop.
No hope.
Geen toekomst.
No future.
In deze wereld.
In this world.
Er is geen hoop.
There is no hope.
Buiten het geloof.
Outside of faith.
Van de Heerde Jezus Christus om.
From the Lord Jesus Christ.
Maar er is alleen.
But there is only.
Hoop.
Hope.
En rust.
And rest.
En vrede.
And peace.
Bij Hem.
With Him.
Als wij onszelf aan Hem geven.
If we give ourselves to Him.
En als we naar zijn woord.
And if we look at his word.
En zijn stem luisteren.
And listen to his voice.

Er zijn zoveel dingen.
There are so many things.

Maar weet u.

And if you stay very close to the Lord Jesus.

And if you trust in Him.

Where he went in?

Maar Asaf zegt.
But Asaf says.

Until I entered God's sanctuary.
Maar dat is meer dan dat gebouw.
But that is more than that building.
Dat is meer dan die tempel.
That is more than that temple.
Hij bedoelt daarmee.
He means that.
Totdat ik Gods aangezicht zocht.
Until I sought the face of God.
Totdat ik naar Hem toe ging.
Until I went to Him.
Totdat ik naar Hem terug ging.
Until I went back to Him.
Totdat ik het weer bij Hem zocht.
Until I sought it again in Him.
En niet in deze wereld.
And not in this world.
En toen kwam er verandering.
And then change came.
Zegt Asaf.
Says Asaf.
Toen kwam er hoop.
Then hope came.
Toen kwam er nieuw uitzicht.
Then a new perspective emerged.
Toen hij het heiligdom van God inging.
When he entered the sanctuary of God.
En toen hij terug ging naar God.
And then he went back to God.
Waar moeten we naartoe?

In de diepste nood.
In dire need.
Waar moeten we naartoe?

Met al die dingen waar we niets van begrijpen.
With all those things we don't understand at all.
Die we anders zouden willen.

We moeten naar het heiligdom.
We need to go to the sanctuary.
We moeten terug naar Hem.
We must return to Him.
En moeten het Hem voorleggen.
And must present it to Him.
En dan mogen we zeggen.

Hij is teruggegaan naar Azov.

En ik ben je Heer, ik ben je Heiland, ik zal je helpen.

En hij zegt ook nog in vers 24, ik zal je leiden met mijn raad.

Als we het niet meer weten.

Dan leidt hij door zijn raad.

Dat doet God.

Volk van Israël zagen we dat.

Dat Jozua naar hen toe ging.
That Joshua went to them.
En tegen het volk van Israël zei, wat willen jullie nou?
And to the people of Israel he said, what do you want?
Wil je nou de Heere dienen?
Do you want to serve the Lord now?
Of wil je nou zelf je weg bepalen en zelf uitzoeken?
Or do you want to determine your own path and figure it out for yourself?
En dan zegt het volk Israël.
And then the people of Israel say.
Wij zullen de Heere onze God dienen en wij zullen zijn stem gehoorzamen.
We will serve the Lord our God, and we will obey His voice.
Wat zou het heerlijk zijn als wij dat zouden zeggen tegen de Heere.
How wonderful it would be if we could say that to the Lord.
Heere, we willen u dienen en we willen uw stem gehoorzamen.
Lord, we want to serve you and we want to obey your voice.

We want to do what you say.
Hij leidt ons door zijn raad.
He leads us through his counsel.

And he will take us into his glory.

Dan zijn we in volmaaktheid tot in alle eeuwigheid bij hem.

Want daar is ons leven.
Because there is our life.
En daar is onze toekomst.
And there is our future.
Die is niet hier, maar die is bij hem.
That one is not here, but that one is with him.
En dat is voor ieder die gelooft en die het van hem verwacht.
