En dat doen we door grote vervuilende bedrijven aan te pakken...

And we do that by targeting large polluting companies...

maar ook de overheid aan te sporen om ons allemaal te beschermen tegen klimaatverandering.

but also to encourage the government to protect all of us against climate change.

Nu komt eigenlijk heel veel van onze elektriciteit...

Now, actually a lot of our electricity comes from...

het grootste deel van onze elektriciteit komt van de verbranding van kolen en gas.

Most of our electricity comes from the burning of coal and gas.

En bij die verbranding komen broeikasgassen vrij, dus CO2.

And during that combustion, greenhouse gases are released, such as CO2.

CO2 is eigenlijk een soort deken om onze planeet heen.

CO2 is actually a kind of blanket around our planet.

En op die manier zorgt het ervoor dat de planeet steeds heter wordt.

And in that way, it ensures that the planet keeps getting hotter.

En dat heeft allerlei gevolgen van de stijgende zeespiegel...

And that has all sorts of consequences from the rising sea level...

tot droogte, tot overstromingen.

to drought, to floods.

En we weten, wetenschappers waarschuwen daar al heel lang voor...

And we know, scientists have been warning about that for a long time...

dat die gevolgen echt heel veel mensen gaan raken.

that those consequences are really going to affect a lot of people.

Dus we zitten echt in een klimaatcrisis.

So we are really in a climate crisis.

De gevolgen worden steeds groter.

The consequences are becoming greater.

Maar gelukkig hebben we ook echt de oplossing in handen.

But fortunately, we really have the solution in hand.

En een belangrijk puzzelstukje van die oplossing is wind op land.

And an important piece of that solution is onshore wind.

Samen met zonne-energie zijn windmolens echt heel erg hard nodig...

Together with solar energy, wind turbines are really very much needed...

om te zorgen dat we niet meer fossiele brandstoffen hoeven te verbranden...

to ensure that we no longer have to burn fossil fuels...

die de klimaatcrisis steeds erger maken.

Volgens Maarten dé oplossing om klimaatverandering tegen te gaan.

Maar zijn er geen betere innovaties?

Het is echt en wind en zonne-energie.

En juist ook omdat...

Je merkt ook dat steeds meer mensen gaan in een elektrische auto rijden.

Dat is schoner, maar dat kost natuurlijk ook nog meer elektriciteit.

En al die elektriciteit moeten we echt groen gaan opwekken.

De vraag naar energie neemt de komende jaren alleen maar toe.

Maar als het stroomnet nu al op veel plekken vol raakt...

kan het netwerk al deze nieuwe groene energie in de toekomst dan wel aan.

Ja, dus het elektriciteitsnet is echt een uitdaging.

En daar wordt gelukkig ook echt hard aan gewerkt...

En juist als een laagliggend land hebben we die windmolens echt nodig.

En die groene stroom hebben we echt nodig om droge voeten te houden.

Op straat spreek ik een hoop mensen die niet zo zeker zijn over windmolens op land als Maarten.

Ja, daar heb je twee partijen in natuurlijk.

Mensen die er hinder van krijgen.

People who are affected by it.

Toen zijn die grotere windmolens geplaatst...

...en toen ontstonden de problemen.

Nou, dat was geluidsoverlast, slagschaduw...

Well, that was noise pollution, shadow flicker...

...en nou ja, s'nachts gewoon heel veel...

...overlast, van geluid vooral.

...nuisance, especially from noise.

Kunt u ongeveer een idee voor mij geven wat dat dan is?

Hij krijgt namelijk steeds te horen dat de exploitant nu voldoet aan alle normen.

He keeps being told that the operator now meets all the standards.

Hierdoor voelt hij zich voor de gek gehouden.

En wat doet dat met u?

En gelukkig hebben we ook goede regels over geluid.

Ondanks gesprekken waarvoor Albert wordt uitgenodigd door belanghebbende partijen...

Despite meetings for which Albert is invited by interested parties...

...merkt hij weinig van de voordelen waar Maarten over spreekt.

...he notices little of the benefits that Maarten is talking about.

Je hebt het idee, omdat je daar mag komen, dat je serieus wordt genomen.

You have the feeling that you are taken seriously because you are allowed to be there.

Dat je mag toelichten waar de problemen liggen.

Dat hebben we heel duidelijk uiteengezet.

We have laid that out very clearly.

En het was ons er ook niet om te doen om die windmolen steeds stil te zetten.

And we were also not trying to keep that windmill still all the time.

We hebben aangegeven dat in de nacht de overlast veruit het grootst is.

We have indicated that the nuisance is by far the greatest at night.

En aangegeven dat met een toerentalregeling...

And indicated that with a speed control...

...eventueel door die molens terug te regelen in de nachtelijke uren...

...possibly by adjusting those windmills during the night hours...

...de geluidsoverlast veel kleiner zou kunnen zijn.

...the noise disturbance could be much smaller.

Dat kan gewoon.

That can just happen.

En dat kan met nieuwe technieken heel makkelijk ingeregeld worden.

And that can be easily arranged with new techniques.

Maar ze hebben daar gewoon niks mee gedaan.

But they just haven't done anything with it.

En dat is mij enorm tegengevallen.

And that has hugely disappointed me.

Gewoon niet gehoord worden eigenlijk.

Just not being heard, really.

Waar legt volgens u de verantwoordelijkheid voor groene energie?

Maar dit zijn mensen, dat zijn particuliere investeerders...

But these are people, those are private investors...

...en die hebben geïnvesteerd in dit windmolenparkje.

...and they have invested in this wind farm.

En die wonen zelf allemaal op andere plaatsen.

And they all live in different places.

En dan lopen ze tegen mij van, nou je moet niet zo zeuren.

And then they come at me saying, well you shouldn't complain so much.

Wat wordt er dan gezegd?

What is being said then?

Ik zeg, kom hier dan s'nachts eens kijken, maar dat doen ze niet.

I say, come look here at night then, but they don't do that.

Albert heeft maar één boodschap voor mensen die door windmolens op land...

Albert has just one message for people affected by onshore wind turbines...

...in eenzelfde situatie terecht dreigen te komen.

...risk ending up in a similar situation.

Nou, weet goed waar je aan begint en wat er gaat gebeuren.

Well, know well what you are getting into and what is going to happen.

En laat je eigen zo goed mogelijk informeren.

And make sure to get as well informed as possible.

En maak afspraken die allemaal op papier met een advocaat geregeld worden.

And make agreements that are all arranged in writing with a lawyer.

Dat ben ik in de tijd, heb ik dat niet gedaan.

We kunnen heel erg naar een energiesysteem waar mensen juist lokaal hun eigen energie opwekken...

We can very much towards an energy system where people generate their own energy locally...

...en ook lokaal daarvan profiteren.

...and also benefit locally from it.

Windmolens op land.

Wind turbines on land.

Aan de ene kant onderdeel van de oplossing tegen de klimaatcrisis.

On the one hand, part of the solution to the climate crisis.

Aan de andere kant de harde realiteit van de overlast die het kan veroorzaken.

On the other hand, the harsh reality of the nuisance it can cause.
