We hadden vele gasten, van de projectleider en de wethouder tot de architect en de medewerkers.

We had many guests, from the project leader and the alderman to the architect and the staff.

En we behandelden tal van onderwerpen, van het ontwerp en de bouw tot de verhuizing.

And we discussed a variety of topics, from the design and construction to the move.

Inmiddels is het huis van Roosendaal een half jaar in gebruik.

En ik heb eigenlijk het hele project begeleid als procesbegeleider.

En ook de participatie met de medewerkers, onder andere.

Dat betekent, als ik het even in mijn eigen interpretatie heb, betekent dat dat je heel erg bezig bent met de theorie, om het zo maar te zeggen, van het huis van Roos en Naal?

De theorie, daar begint het eigenlijk mee.

The theory, that's really where it all starts.

Wat is nou de ambitie?

What is the ambition now?

Dat is vaak heel abstract.

Mooie begrippen, duurzaam.

Nice concepts, sustainable.

De organisatie op een andere manier laten werken.

Making the organization operate in a different way.

Uiteindelijk is het dan ook de bedoeling dat we dan met elkaar ook kijken van hoe gaan we dat dan vormgeven.

Ultimately, the intention is that we will then also look together at how we will shape that.

Dus het wordt eigenlijk van abstract.

So it actually becomes abstract.

Steeds concreter en het mooie aan dit project is dat we dat ook met elkaar hebben gedaan en ook met medewerkers die daar ook specialist in zijn.

En het mooie resultaat zitten we nu in natuurlijk.

Hoe voelt het dan om hier weer binnen te stappen?

Definitely a feeling of pride.

Ik word ook aangesproken.

Vaak gelukkig heel positief.

Maar het leuke van het bouwen en het ontwerpen, ontwikkelen, is natuurlijk dat je dat met elkaar van een eerste schets doet en dat je uiteindelijk in het fysieke resultaat bent.

But the fun of building and designing, developing, is of course that you do that together from an initial sketch and that you ultimately arrive at the physical result.

En het is ook een traject dat we met elkaar hebben doorleefd.

And it is also a journey that we have experienced together.

Dus het is ook een hele interessante route geweest om er te komen.

So it has also been a very interesting journey to get there.

Zijn er nou ook dingen die je ooit bedacht hebt en die het niet gehaald hebben?

Dit is een project met heel veel ambitie.

En het aardige, maar daar kan Gabriel zelf wat meer over vertellen, is dat er altijd wel gedacht wordt in we gaan ervoor en waarom kan het niet?

And the nice thing, but Gabriel can tell more about that himself, is that there is always a mindset of let's go for it and why can't it be done?

Dus vooral denken in mogelijkheden heeft wel heel veel van de ideeën toch wel uiteindelijk tot werkelijkheid gemaakt.

So focusing on possibilities has really made many of the ideas ultimately become reality.

En dan is het altijd heel leuk om die reacties te ervaren uit eerste hand als iemand hier op bezoek komt.

And then it is always very nice to experience those reactions firsthand when someone visits here.

Dat van wauw, wat is dit joh?

Wow, what is this?

We hebben ministeries op bezoek gehad om naar de toekomst van Roosendaal te kijken.

We have had ministries visiting to look at the future of Roosendaal.

En dan kijken ze ook meteen naar die omgeving die we ook gerealiseerd hebben.

And then they also immediately look at the environment that we have created.

En dat helpt dan weer wel.

And that does help.

Dus dat gevoel vind ik gaaf.

So I think that feeling is cool.

En wat ik vaak nog leuker vind is dat ik ineens een collega spot met kind en oma of opa en moeder.

And what I often find even more enjoyable is suddenly spotting a colleague with their child and grandmother or grandfather and mother.

En er een kleine mini rondleiding wordt gegeven door een van onze collega's.

And a small mini tour is given by one of our colleagues.

En eigenlijk in de vorm zoals we dat zo vaak gedaan hebben.

And actually in the form as we have often done it.

Dat ze ons verhaal weer aan het vertellen zijn.

En dan ook een beetje zich gesnapt voelen als ze ons dan zien zitten dat we dat doorhebben.

Want ik vind het vernieuwend.

Because I find it innovative.

Maar jij werkt natuurlijk dagelijks met dit soort projecten.

But you work with this kind of projects on a daily basis, of course.

Is dit project vernieuwend geweest?

Has this project been innovative?

Ja, zeker is het vernieuwend geweest.

Yes, it has certainly been innovative.

En ik denk inderdaad vooral de manier waarop het is aangepakt.

And I indeed think especially about the way it has been approached.

Want dat maakt het natuurlijk mogelijk dat je ook kan innoveren, dingen kan testen.

Because that obviously makes it possible for you to innovate and test things as well.

Dat er ook risico's zijn genomen, waarvan je soms kan zeggen, het pakt misschien wat minder goed uit.

That risks have also been taken, of which you can sometimes say, it may not turn out as well.

Maar wat Gabriel net terecht zegt, is ook heel goed nagedacht over dat wat we misschien nog niet weten.

But what Gabriel just rightly says is also very well thought out about what we might not know yet.

Daar zorgen we in ieder geval voor dat we flexibel zijn om het aan te passen.

We will make sure that we are flexible enough to adjust it.

En daar is ook altijd de inrichting en de hele layout van het gebouw op afgestemd.

And the interior design and the entire layout of the building are always aligned with that.

Maar wat vooral voor mij ook heel inspirerend is geweest, want ik doe het inderdaad vaker.

But what has also been very inspiring for me is that I indeed do it more often.

Het is natuurlijk wel de samenwerking tussen de opdrachtgever met de kaders.

It is of course the collaboration between the client and the frameworks.

De specialisten die het vormgeven, maar ook de specialisten in het gebruik.

The specialists who design it, but also the specialists in its use.

In dit geval de medewerkers.

In this case, the employees.

En die hebben hier heel veel invloed gehad.

And they have had a lot of influence here.

Niet alleen om te klankborden en een advies te geven wat in een rapport belandt.

Not just to brainstorm and give advice that ends up in a report.

Maar ook om daadwerkelijk echte ruimtes samen te ontwerpen.

But also to actually design real spaces together.

Er zijn ook een aantal ruimtes in het gebouw, de hubs zoals we die noemen.

There are also a number of spaces in the building, the hubs as we call them.

Gabriel kwam de eerste keer met dat idee bij mij.

Gabriel brought that idea to me for the first time.

Ik dacht, hoe gaan we dat nou aanvliegen?

I thought, how are we going to tackle that?

Maar die zijn onder begeleiding van ontwerpers.

But they are supervised by designers.

Die hebben een unieke ruimte gemaakt als aanvulling op het algemene concept van het hele gebouw.

They have created a unique space as an addition to the overall concept of the entire building.

En dat heb ik nog nooit eerder op die manier gedaan.

And I have never done that that way before.

En dat inspireert mij natuurlijk wel weer om over na te denken.

And that certainly inspires me to ponder.

Hoe je participatie ook echt inhoud en betekenis kan geven.

How you can truly give substance and meaning to your participation.

En het misschien ook op andere projecten kan gaan toepassen.

And it might also be applied to other projects.

Ja, precies.

Yes, exactly.

En als je een bouwproject hebt, is er altijd overlast.

And if you have a construction project, there is always nuisance.

Zowel voor gebruikers als voor de buurt.

Both for users and for the neighborhood.

Hier is het gewoon van deur naar deur gegaan.

Here it just went from door to door.

En dit is voor mij ook wel een voorbeeld om aan te geven.

And this is also an example for me to indicate.

Hoe je met elkaar...

How you with each other...

Hoe je met elkaar in contact blijft.

En als je iets uitlegt en al snel dialoog zoekt.

And when you explain something and quickly seek dialogue.

Dat er vaak nog wel meer uit kan ontstaan dan je van tevoren bedenkt.

That often more can arise from it than you initially think.

In plaats van alleen maar bezwaren of belemmeringen.

Instead of just objections or obstacles.

Dus dat zijn zeker dingen die ik dan weer meeneem in nieuwe projecten.

So those are definitely things that I will take with me into new projects.

En bij het realiseren van die hubs bleken de medewerkers ineens heel creatief, toch?

And in realizing those hubs, the employees suddenly turned out to be very creative, right?

Zeker.

Certainly.

En ook dat het leuk aan ons werk een gebouw maken.

And also that it's fun to create a building in our work.

Dat is een middel uiteindelijk.

That is a means ultimately.

Het gaat om de organisatie.

It's about the organization.

En wat heel leuk is.

And what is really nice.

Is dat wij hebben het gewoon ontwikkeld voor corona.

We simply developed it for corona.

En tijdens corona zaten we ook midden in een soort transitie.

And during corona, we were also in the middle of a kind of transition.

Het oude stadskantoor was een gebouw met kamertjes en dichte deuren.

The old city hall was a building with small rooms and closed doors.

En we gingen naar een veel flexibeler, moderner werkplekconcept.

And we moved to a much more flexible, modern workplace concept.

En ik had heel veel gesprekken over.

And I had a lot of conversations about it.

Ja, maar ik kan mijn werk niet ergens anders doen.

Yes, but I can't do my work somewhere else.

Of ik moet een vaste plek hebben.

Or I need to have a permanent place.

En wij hadden toen noodgedwongen digitaal contact.

And we were then forced to have digital contact.

En het aardige was dat daarmee een hele transitie.

And the nice thing was that this marked a whole transition.

Ook in de mindset van.

Also in the mindset of.

Mensen kwamen die tegen mij zeiden.

People came who said that to me.

Ik dacht dat niet kon, maar het kan wel.

I thought that wasn't possible, but it is.

En dan heb je opeens een ander gesprek.

And then you suddenly have a different conversation.

En zo hebben we eigenlijk ook gedurende het traject het gebouw nog aangepast.

And so we actually also adjusted the building during the process.

Omdat we ons ook weer moesten schikken naar heel veel nieuwe manieren om te werken.

Because we also had to adapt to a lot of new ways of working.

En samen te werken.

And to work together.

Wat vooral natuurlijk veel belangrijker werd in dit nieuwe gebouw.

What became much more important in this new building.

Ja, je zegt het terecht.

Yes, you are right to say that.

Het is natuurlijk een heel dicht gebouw geweest.

It has of course been a very dense building.

In een jaren zeventig gebouw noem ik het altijd maar even.

In a seventies building, I just call it that.

Maar er zijn een aantal aspecten die zijn nog steeds in dat huis.

But there are a number of aspects that are still in that house.

Dus te zien, het trappenhuis is eigenlijk in wezen niet veranderd.

So, as you can see, the stairwell has actually not changed fundamentally.

En toch ziet het er heel anders uit.

And yet it looks very different.

Ja, ik denk dat we de basis goed gebruikt hebben.

Yes, I think we have used the foundation well.

Die laten we ook zien.

We zitten hier nu in een vergadersetting.

En daar zie je de betonnen kolommen nog terug.

En dat is ook denk ik het leuke van dat je de circulariteit van het hergebruiken van het grootste deel van het programma of het project in ieder geval goed kunt zien ook.

And I think that's also the fun part, that you can clearly see the circularity of reusing the majority of the program or the project.

Dus we hebben gebruikt wat we konden gebruiken.

So we used what we could use.

We hebben dingen moeten slopen die konden echt niet anders.

We had to demolish things that just couldn't be helped.

En we hebben zoveel mogelijk functie gevonden voor alles wat we nog over hadden aan materiaal.

And we have found as many functions as possible for everything we still had in materials.

En dat is ook gaaf geweest om dat samen te doen.

And it was also cool to do that together.

En ja, soms heb je ook geluk.

And yes, sometimes you also get lucky.

We hebben echte partners gevonden.

We have found true partners.

Ik zag vandaag ook weer een aantal collega's die de kabels hebben getrokken en de buisjes erin en de stroom hebben aangelegd.

I also saw a number of colleagues today who pulled the cables, put in the tubes, and laid the power.

En dan is het echt, dan zoeken ze je gewoon op van waar zijn die mannen waar we zo lang mee samengewerkt hebben.

Zorgt ervoor dat er gewoon heel veel ruimte is, dat het er heel ruimtelijk uitziet.

Ensures that there is just a lot of space, that it looks very spacious.

De leuke kleuren die toegepast zijn.

The nice colors that have been applied.

De diversiteit van de verschillende ruimtes.

The diversity of the different spaces.

Tachtig verschillende soorten werkplekken, hebben we wel eens gezegd.

Eighty different types of workplaces, we have said before.

Dus het is het totale palet van wat je ziet.

So it is the total palette of what you see.

De plaza met een groene wand, dus je komt binnen en je kunt je afvragen,

ben ik nou eigenlijk inderdaad binnen of bevind ik me nog deels buiten?

En dat zie je eigenlijk ook bij de gevels, de buitenzijde.

And you can actually see that on the facades, the outside.

Ook mooie groene wanden, dakterrassen, dat zijn pareltjes.

Also beautiful green walls, roof terraces, those are gems.

Als je daar met gasten komt, ja, die kijken over de stad uit.

When you come there with guests, yes, they look over the city.

Dus ook Roosendaalse gasten, die zien dingen,

So even Roosendaal guests, they see things,

die ze eerder nog nooit zagen.

that they had never seen before.

Nou ja we hebben vooral onze partners daarin.

Well, we primarily have our partners in that.

De partners zoals politie en alles die kunnen altijd bij ons terecht.

Partners such as the police and anyone else can always come to us.

Dat hebben we afgesproken.

That's what we've agreed upon.

En andere partners zoals de RWB of als er een ander is die daar gebruikt wordt.

And other partners such as the RWB or if there is another one being used there.

Dat is alleen als er beschikbare ruimte wel zijn.

That is only if there is available space.

Die afspraken hebben we daar wel gemaakt.

We did make those agreements there.

Dus ja daar zit wel een verschil in nog.

So yes, there is still a difference in that.

En volgens mij wordt het ook een ruimte voor de verschillende politieke partijen.

And in my opinion, it will also become a space for the various political parties.

Voor de fracties.

For the factions.

Want het fractiehuis is natuurlijk weg.

Because the faction house is of course gone.

Ja de fracties die vergaderen inderdaad op maandagavond daar al.

Yes, the factions do indeed meet there on Monday evening.

En ook op andere avonden soms of overdag.

And also sometimes on other evenings or during the day.

Zij kunnen ook gewoon een ruimte reserveren via het systeem.

They can also simply reserve a space through the system.

Daar hebben zij gewoon toegang voor tot.

En dan kunnen zij gewoon hun vergadering houden in het huis.

In het vergadercentrum.

In the meeting center.

Maar de gemeenteraadsvergaderingen die blijven in het oude raadhuis toch?

Ja klopt.
