Good afternoon, we are Stijn and Bente.

En wij gaan jou in deze podcast meenemen op onze reis.

And we are going to take you on our journey in this podcast.

Het eerste schilderij waar wij jullie mee naartoe willen nemen is Amerides met hagedis en insecten, gemaakt door Elisabeth Johanna Koning.

The first painting we want to take you to is Amerides with lizard and insects, created by Elisabeth Johanna Koning.

Het schilderij waar we naar gaan kijken is een schilderij met een grote bloem in het midden, een hagedis en een springkan onderaan.

The painting we are going to look at is a painting with a large flower in the center, a lizard, and a grasshopper at the bottom.

Dit deed Bente ergens aan denken.

This reminded Bente of something.

Dat klopt, dit schilderij doet mij denken aan een leguaan.

That's right, this painting reminds me of an iguana.

Leguanen zijn enge dieren die er heel erg eng uitzien, als een soort draak.

Iguanas are scary animals that look very frightening, like a kind of dragon.

Maar eigenlijk kunnen ze niet zoveel doen.

But actually, they can't do much.

Ze kunnen niet bijten, maar ze zien er gewoon erg eng uit.

They can't bite, but they just look very scary.

Je ziet ze heel veel in Curaçao, waar ik dus was.

You see them a lot in Curaçao, where I was.

En je ziet ze heel veel bijvoorbeeld als het heeft geregend, wat echt bijna nooit gebeurt in Curaçao.

And you see them a lot, for example when it has rained, which really almost never happens in Curaçao.

Maar als het gebeurt, dan zijn het hele korte regenbuien.

But when it happens, they are very short rain showers.

Daarna zie je ze heel veel, omdat het zoet water is en er komen ze op af.

After that, you see them a lot because it's fresh water and they are attracted to it.

Jouw verhaal van de leguaan doet mij denken aan een ander verhaal met een leguaan.

Your story about the iguana reminds me of another story with an iguana.

Ik ben erg benieuwd naar je verhaal, vertel het maar.

I am very curious about your story, go ahead and tell it.

Nou, toen ik op vakantie was en we gingen naar buiten met eten, was ook op Curaçao.

Well, when I was on vacation and we went outside with food, it was also in Curaçao.

Toen kwam er een leguaan.

Then an iguana came.

Toen kwam er een leguaan op me afrennen en die klom op mijn benen.

Then an iguana came running towards me and climbed up my legs.

En wat heb je toen gedaan?

And what did you do then?

Hij klom eerst via mijn benen omhoog en zette zijn nagels in mijn been.

He first climbed up my legs and dug his claws into my leg.

Oeh, oh nee.

Ooh, oh no.

Dat voel je best wel.

You can feel that quite well.

En toen daarna ben ik de zee in gesprongen en toen vloog hij van me af.

And then afterwards I jumped into the sea and then it flew away from me.

Leguaanen kunnen ook zwemmen. Wat heeft hij toen gedaan?

Iguanas can also swim. What did he do then?

Ik heb hem niet meer gezien sindsdien.

I haven't seen him since then.

Dus u heeft mooi afscheid genomen van de leguaan.

So you said a nice goodbye to the iguana.

Ja, ik weet niet of hij de sprong overleefd heeft.

Yes, I don't know if he survived the jump.

Nu wil ik jullie graag meenemen.

Now I would like to take you along.

We nemen naar het volgende schilderij dat we tegenkamen op de tentoonstelling.

We move on to the next painting that we encountered at the exhibition.

Het schilderij heet Vismarkt en het is gemaakt door Siegbert Scherten.

The painting is called Fish Market and it was made by Siegbert Scherten.

Op het schilderij zien we heel veel mensen staan.

In the painting, we see a lot of people standing.

Ze lijken ergens druk mee bezig te zijn.

They seem to be busy with something.

Als je goed kijkt, zie je dat er bakken met vissen staan.

If you look closely, you'll see that there are bins filled with fish.

Toen Bente en ik naar dit schilderij keken, bracht het een herinnering op bij Bente.

When Bente and I looked at this painting, it brought back a memory for Bente.

Dat klopt.

That's correct.

Zoals ik net al had verteld, ben ik in Curaçao geweest.

As I just mentioned, I have been to Curaçao.

En daar had je ook een vismarkt.

And there you also had a fish market.

En tegelijkertijd een vismarkt.

And at the same time a fish market.

Het heet Playa Grandi en er zitten heel veel schildpadden op het strand.

It is called Playa Grandi and there are a lot of turtles on the beach.

Wat ik in eerste instantie niet wist.

What I didn't know at first.

Dus wanneer ik het water inging, zag ik een enorme schildpad.

So when I entered the water, I saw a huge turtle.

Die echt zo enorm groot was, dat ik er helemaal van schrok.

That was really so enormous that I was completely shocked by it.

Maar schildpadden komen natuurlijk af op vissen, geur en vissen.

But turtles are naturally attracted to fish, scent, and fish.

Dus het was op zich wel logisch.

So it was logical in itself.

Maar het was heel mooi om te zien.

But it was very beautiful to see.

De markt deed me ook denken aan een ander land.

The market also reminded me of another country.

Spanje, daar zijn ook heel veel markten.

Spain, there are also many markets there.

Onze ene laatste bestemming is de waterval.

Our one last destination is the waterfall.

Bij deze waterval dachten we vooral aan rust.

At this waterfall, we primarily thought about tranquility.

Hoe je tot rust kan komen van de drukke wereld.

How to find calm in the busy world.

Daarom leek het ons goed om even te luisteren naar de waterval.

Therefore, we thought it would be nice to listen to the waterfall for a while.

Als je alleen al naar dit schilderij kijkt, voel je al de rust van de waterval.

Just looking at this painting, you can already feel the calm of the waterfall.

Ik heb hem zelf helaas nooit gezien, behalve in Blijdorp.

Unfortunately, I never saw him myself, except in Blijdorp.

Maar ja, dat is natuurlijk niet zo mooi als in het echt.

But yes, that's of course not as nice as in real life.

Nu, na deze rustgevende tour door de tentoonstelling...

Now, after this soothing tour through the exhibition...

Komen we bij de eindreis.

We arrive at the final journey.

Onze eindreis gaat terug naar de stad.

Our final journey goes back to the city.

Onze laatste bestemming is het straatje in Tunis.

Our final destination is the alley in Tunis.

Dit schilderij is gemaakt door August de Gras.

This painting was made by August de Gras.

Je ziet hier een rustig straatje, waar aan het eind van de straat weer veel drukte te zien is.

You see a quiet little street, where at the end of the street a lot of hustle and bustle can be seen again.

Dit vonden we passen bij ons verhaal, omdat je weer teruggaat van het rustige naar het drukke.

We thought this suited our story, because you go back from the calm to the busy.

We zijn nu bij de eindbestemming van onze reis.

We are now at the final destination of our journey.

En we willen de podcast afsluiten.
