I don't completely agree that you can make such a division between the large polluters, the big companies, the governments, and that our individual choices don't matter.
It lies in the fact that the decisions made by large companies in governments, that is all of us as well.
We are the ones who work there, for example. We are the ones who know people who work there. We are the ones who either work in the government or vote for who is in the government.
At the moment we detach ourselves from the feeling that we are the ones living this life and therefore shaping life with our choices.
If we don't live that ourselves, then it's a lot harder to put on the hat of the one who makes decisions and then suddenly be okay with it.
Dat is wel te doen.
That is doable.
Because with their dynamic energy contract you get access to the lowest rates at the greenest moments.
This way, you benefit from dynamic energy at purchase price and save an average of 25% on your electricity and gas costs compared to fixed and variable contracts.
Zonneplan is ook eerlijker.
Zonneplan is also fairer.
With the free energy meter and solar plan app, you always have live insight into your consumption and costs.
And do you want to save even more? Then make smart use of the cheapest, truly green hours.
Then gas and coal power plants don't need to operate for your electricity, and you make a positive impact on both the climate and your wallet.
In addition, Zonneplan has been named the best dynamic energy supplier by keuze.nl.

Marike, welkom.
Marike, welcome.
Dank je wel.
Thank you.
Thanks.
Thank you.
Nice to see you six years later.
Nice to talk to you again six years later.
We were on the Happiness editorial team six years ago.
Ik heb het teruggeluisterd.
I listened to it again.
Het was te kort, vond ik.
I thought it was too short.
Het smaakte naar meer.
It left me wanting more.
Dus we gaan dit keer iets langer praten.
So we are going to talk a bit longer this time.
Heel goed.
Very good.
Nou, dat kan altijd, hoor.
Well, that can always happen, you know.
Ja.
Yes.
My first question is actually, we have come across a few things that you have done.
Heel veel en heel veel mooie dingen.
Very many and very beautiful things.
But what has been your personal biggest milestone in your work field over the past six years?
I think the same thing that you also started with.
Zes jaar geleden was ik nog geen...
Six years ago I was not yet...
Laten we zeggen, vaste televisiepresentator.
Let's say, regular television presenter.
And that is quite a life-changing experience to be that.
Dus dat is natuurlijk...
So that is of course...
Yes, that is a very honorable thing to be able to do.
And yes, it does make a difference in your life if you host a program on television.
And I am of course one of the presenters.
We talk about it quite a lot because it is also a daily program.
But well, I am going into my fourth year of all that.
Dus inmiddels zijn er wel mensen.
So by now there are indeed people.
Die je kennen, bijvoorbeeld.
Those you know, for example.
Ja.
Yes.
Ik ben wel benieuwd.
I am curious.
Binnenste buiten, mooi programma.
Inside Out, nice program.
What are your biggest lessons from the past four years of the program?
What I have learned from the program, you mean?
Ja.
Yes.
Ik denk...
I think...
I think it is incredibly important to show as many people as possible...
dat je duurzamer kunt leven.
that you can live more sustainably.
And that it doesn’t take away much from you.
And that is of course still a kind of prejudice.
What has come about in the first years.
And also what companies or political parties like to make you feel, for example.
Because if we live in a different way, it is not always to their advantage.
So sometimes something is done about it, of course.
To address the stigma that sustainability and sustainable living means.
Dat je snel alles wordt afgenomen.
That you quickly have everything taken away.
Dat je geen gehaktballen meer kan eten.
That you can no longer eat meatballs.
And those are the big problems, so to speak, in your life.
Dat het echt heel karig wordt, allemaal.
That it really becomes very meager, all of it.
Heel negatief.
Very negative.
And that is actually just something you shouldn't want.
I think it's incredibly important to show as many people as possible that it's really not that bad.
And that there are many initiatives in the Netherlands, that is what I show in the program, that are precisely...
Juist omdat je buiten de gebaande paden...
Just because you go off the beaten path...
...goes because you taste new things or generate energy in different ways.
Or because you look at what we usually consider as waste in a completely different way.
Dat soort dingen.
That kind of things.
That you don't have to give up anything at all and actually just gain a lot.
Whether it's joy of life or even comfort, it can save you money.
And even if it is not in your own favor, because that is of course sometimes the case with more sustainable living.
Even so, it is something you want to be a part of.
Where you want to belong, which is actually just something that makes life more beautiful.
And I think that is something I have learned about how strong that other narrative is, the negative story.
And how incredibly liberating it can be to say something in return.
Can you pick a moment that you think inspired me so much?
Nou, de reacties van kijkers daarop zijn...
Well, the viewers' reactions to that are...
And that's just like, maybe you know that too, I think that's quite good.
Nou, dat weet ik zeker.
Well, I know that for sure.
If you create something, you do it because you think, this is something important to share.
I often base it on where I feel more need for it.
Dus waar ik veel vragen over krijg bijvoorbeeld.
So that's where I get a lot of questions about, for example.
Of waar mensen veel opmerkingen over maken.
Or where people make a lot of comments.
Ja, wat leeft.
Yes, what's happening.
And if you then, whether it's a book or a podcast episode.
Of een item op televisie.
Or an item on television.
Je weet maar niet hoe het aankomt.
You just don't know how it lands.
Because people do see you, or do hear you.
But you don't hear them, or you don't see them.
Or you cannot look into their mind when they turn the pages.
And when you then encounter people on the street, for example now in my case.
They come to you and say, well really.
Dat en dat item wat je maakte.
That and that item you made.
Die jongens die daarmee bezig waren.
The boys who were busy with that.
Those women in construction, in that hardware store.
That has really made me think in a completely different way about how I want to renovate my house.
Ik heb het erover met mijn dochter.
I am discussing it with my daughter.
It is something I discuss a lot at my work.
I suddenly have a completely different idea about how to handle oliebollen more sustainably.
Or in what kind of coffin I want to be buried.
Those are the kind of sparks you can bring out in people.
Die ze, ja echt.
Those they, yes really.
Die hun beeld kantelen.
Those who tilt their image.
En dat blijft mij wel bij.
And that sticks with me.
That is really something I am very grateful for as well.
That I may make that and show it.
Yes, you mentioned this in episode 5 of the Green Heart.
Zes jaar geleden al dus.
Six years ago, then.
En dat over je boek.
And that about your book.
De reacties van mensen.
The reactions of people.
En dat dat zo'n mooi cadeau is.
And that it is such a beautiful gift.
Oh funny, but I still think that.
Yes, that is now the case with your program as well.
Ja, kijk.
Yes, look.
And the scale of such a program is considerably larger.
Dus daardoor komt dit extra binnen.
So that’s why this comes in extra.
Ja, is dat ook wel eens vervelend?
Yes, is that sometimes annoying?
De roem, zeg maar.
The fame, you could say.
Dat je iets beroemder bent geworden?
That you have become somewhat more famous?
Nou, eigenlijk niet.
Well, actually not.
De reacties zijn gewoon altijd heel leuk.
The reactions are always really nice.
Het is een heel positief programma.
It is a very positive program.
So I generally really like it.
What I think of when you ask that.
Of course, there are more online reactions.
And that is an environment that is not necessarily always so constructive or positive.
Ik heb daar wel...
I do have that...
So people find it very easy to say simple things about you.
Dan ben je ineens de...
Then you suddenly become the...
Ik maak van die aanhalingstekens.
I'm making those quotation marks.
If you listen, then you are the so-called sustainability expert inside out.
Omdat je lippenstift draagt bijvoorbeeld.
Because you wear lipstick, for example.
And you shouldn't listen to that clown.
Zo dat.
There you go.
So the prejudice that you couldn't be wearing lipstick.
En wat van duurzaamheid zou kunnen weten.
And what could be known about sustainability.
Dat is natuurlijk een heel beperkt idee.
That is of course a very limited idea.
But that's also a bit more than that.
Ik liep...
I walked...
Ja.
Yes.
I have walked the Night of the Refugee for a few years.
40 kilometer door de nacht.
40 kilometers through the night.
To raise money for people without a roof or home.
Die alles hebben moeten achterlaten.
Those who had to leave everything behind.
Om honger of geweld of onderdrukking.
About hunger or violence or oppression.
And the KRO-NCW thought it was nice that one of their presenters did that.
So they pay attention to that on the internet.
Hadden daar een interview over gemaakt.
They had made an interview about that.
And that with some quotes of mine posted on Facebook.
Ik heb zelden zo'n hoeveelheid bedreigingen.
I have rarely received such a large number of threats.
Van doodsbedreigingen tot verkrachtingsfantasieën.
From death threats to rape fantasies.
And I've had all kinds of things like that thrown at me in the comments.
Because I got it in my head to do something for refugees.
What that would mean according to the people there.
That I will probably do absolutely nothing for people in the Netherlands.
Those two things don't have to exclude each other at all.
Je kunt zelfs bedenken.
You can even think of.
Als je zo'n wandeling gaat maken.
If you’re going to take such a walk.
Then you must be an engaged person.
And perhaps also apply yourself in other areas.
Dat vond ik heel heftig.
I found that very intense.
Om dat mee te maken.
To experience that.
Dus dat zijn...
So that are...
Keerzijdes van die medaille.
Two sides of the same coin.
Je bent natuurlijk nog geen...
You are of course not yet...
Or in that sense, you are not Nicole Kidman.
Niet dat je misschien denkt van...
Not that you might think of...
Ik heb privacygebrek.
I have a privacy issue.
Dat ik overal herkend word.
That I am recognized everywhere.
It depends a bit on where you go.
Maar Nicole Kidman lijkt me inderdaad zeker niet mijn leak.
But Nicole Kidman certainly doesn't seem like my type.
Nee, ik vergelijk me daar helemaal niet mee.
No, I don't compare myself to that at all.
You are actually at a certain level of fame.
Wat gewoon best wel heel fijn is.
Which is actually quite nice.
Ja, tuurlijk. Zeker.
Yes, of course. Certainly.
Because you also immediately have a conversation about the program.
Wat weer over duurzaamheid gaat.
What again about sustainability.
Maar heel tof ook.
But very cool too.
Ja, cool.
Yes, cool.
In de podcast zes jaar geleden...
In the podcast six years ago...
Ik laat even een stukje horen.
I'll play a piece for you.
Because it was one theme that actually kept coming back.
Zijn Marike zes jaar geleden.
His Marike six years ago.
But then there are of course a few things about...
You think, yes, but this just has to be different.
En dat je dan denkt...
And then you think...
We actually prefer to show that it is better and more fun.
But sometimes laws just need to be established.
Er moeten gewoon wetten komen.
There just need to be laws.
And I think that certainly applies in the area of products, for example...
die we hier kunnen kopen.
that we can buy here.
The whole idea that we naturally have all sorts of things in the store here.
Wat wij gewoon kunnen aanschaffen.
What we can simply purchase.
What is made somewhere else by people who are exploited to clothe us.
And they live a life that we would find completely unacceptable here.
How is it acceptable that that is simply for sale here?
I completely agree with myself.
Wat een frustrerend stukje.
What a frustrating piece.
In the sense that we still don't have those laws.
En zeer nodig hebben.
And desperately need.
Yes, because how do we stand after six years?
Medium op dit onderwerp.
Medium on this subject.
Er zijn zeker initiatieven.
There are certainly initiatives.
Zowel op Nederlands als Europees niveau.
Both at the Dutch and European level.
That starts to make a certain dent in what you're allowed to do.
Whether it is what you are all allowed to say.
Er zijn natuurlijk steeds meer reclamecodecommissiezaken bijvoorbeeld.
There are of course increasingly more cases involving advertising code committees, for example.
Wat supergoed is.
What is super good.
Sarah Dubbeldam has played a major role in that.
Samen met de Roos Advocaten.
Together with Roos Advocaten.
Maar er zijn, als je kijkt naar...
But there are, when you look at...
Naar wetgeving om dingen te...
Towards legislation to...
Om uitbuiting echt illegaal te maken.
To make exploitation truly illegal.
Then we certainly aren't going hard enough in that.
Zeker niet.
Certainly not.
It is more about, for example, at the European level.
Laws that pertain to the amount of disposable plastic you are allowed to produce.
The type of products you are allowed to offer.
Die je ook in kantines mag hebben.
That you can also have in cafeterias.
Wetgeving op het gebied van...
Legislation in the field of...
De manier waarop je mag communiceren.
The way you are allowed to communicate.
You will get a CSRD law that will really...
Where you will see more effect.
Dat je niet over mag produceren.
That you must not overproduce.
Because you are no longer allowed to throw away clothing items or products.
Dat soort dingen.
That kind of thing.
Het lastige daaraan is dat dat...
The difficult part about that is that...
Het zijn behoortelange trajecten.
They are lengthy trajectories.
Of which we still need to see how effective they will be.
Because I have an incredible amount of respect for the people who have made this happen.
Voornamelijk op Europees niveau.
Primarily at the European level.
But to achieve that, you also have to make quite a few compromises.
Which is why it does not apply to certain categories of companies and large enterprises.
We zouden veel harder hierop moeten gaan.
We should really take a much tougher stance on this.
Met de huidige politieke situatie.
With the current political situation.
Ook in Nederland.
Also in the Netherlands.
But of course also on other continents and in other countries.
Is dat niet zo makkelijk natuurlijk.
Isn't that just so easy, of course?
I just hope that we will see what we have chosen now.
Dat dat nergens voor helpt.
That doesn't help at all.
And that this will mean an enormous backlash.
Overigens kunnen we daar hoop op hebben.
By the way, we can have hope for that.
Als we naar bijvoorbeeld Frankrijk kijken.
If we look at France, for example.
Of Engeland.
Of England.
We nemen deze podcast 12 september op.
We are recording this podcast on September 12th.
2024.
2024.
Dat je toch ook wel...
That you also...
Je ziet een verrechtsing in Europa.
You see a shift to the far right in Europe.
Polarisatie.
Polarization.
Ja, dat ook vooral.
Yes, that as well.
Dus ja, medium.
So yes, medium.
Medium zou ik zeggen.
I would say medium.
Ja, en gebeuren dingen.
Yes, and things happen.
Maar het gaat niet snel genoeg.
But it's not fast enough.
Zoals de CSRD-wet.
Like the CSRD law.
Ja.
Yes.
Dat is wel iets wat eraan komt.
That is indeed something that is coming.
And what Babette Porcelain was also very positive about.
Een paar afleveringen geleden.
A few episodes ago.
Sarah Double than what you were talking about.
Also interviewed about the good things she does.
To simply file lawsuits against companies.
Yes, just advertising something that isn't okay.
En die CSRD is inderdaad interessant.
And that CSRD is indeed interesting.
Want die data.
Because that data.
Die bedrijven worden op allerlei dingen gecheckt.
Those companies are checked on all sorts of things.
Die data wordt straks openbaar.
That data will be made public later.
Publiekelijk.
Publicly.
En dan komt die.
And then it comes.
Dus iedereen kan straks inzien.
So everyone will be able to see it later.
Dit bedrijf.
This company.
Heeft die als leverancier.
Has that as a supplier.
Die is minder duurzaam.
That is less sustainable.
Of heeft zoveel uitstoot.
Or has so much emissions.
Ben je daar zelf ook excited over?
Are you excited about that yourself too?
Over CSRD?
About CSRD?
No, I'm not that excited about it.
Sorry, this is not exactly the subject you think.
I'm going to think, this is going to super elevate the podcast.
Nee, nee, nee.
No, no, no.
Maar je doet een eerlijk antwoord natuurlijk.
But you're giving an honest answer, of course.
Ja.
Yes.
Ik ben er een beetje afwachtend over.
I am a bit hesitant about it.
Als ik heel eerlijk ben.
If I'm being completely honest.
Ja.
Yes.
I am a bit cautious about how much companies are really going to strive to be transparent about this.
I'm a bit afraid that they will try very hard to give as little as possible.
Eigenlijk.
Actually.
I think we need to take a much tougher stance against companies.
And that there should not only be transparency.
Zodat mensen zelf kunnen kiezen.
So that people can choose for themselves.
I believe there should be no more choice.
Eerlijk gezegd.
To be honest.
Dus natuurlijk.
So of course.
It's not that it isn't good.
Het is een stap vooruit hoor.
It's a step forward, you know.
Absoluut.
Absolutely.
En we hebben transparantie nodig.
And we need transparency.
And that can't all happen at once either.
En zo.
And so.
Of course I am well aware of that.
And at the same time, I think we just don't have time for this.
We hebben geen tijd.
We have no time.
We moeten gewoon door.
We just have to keep going.
All these things, which I also said six years ago.
Het moet gewoon allemaal niet mogen.
It simply shouldn't be allowed.
Ik wil niet dat je erover rapporteert.
I don't want you to report on it.
Ik wil dat je stopt.
I want you to stop.
Gewoon eigenlijk.
Just actually.
Dat.
That.
Ja, best confronterend.
Yes, quite confronting.
Zes jaar geleden eigenlijk.
Actually six years ago.
Ja.
Yes.
Hebben we hier alles over gezegd?
Have we said everything about this?
Ja, laten we.
Yes, let's.
Are we going to do this again in six years?
En kijken of...
And see if...
And what I would really love is that I am very positive about it.
Dat ik denk, dit is...
That I think, this is...
Laten we dat hopen.
Let's hope so.
Yes, I was a bit hesitant about it.
En nu denk ik, fantastisch.
And now I think, fantastic.
Dat zou ik echt heel leuk vinden.
I would really enjoy that.
Ja, daar gaan we op hopen.
Yes, that's what we're going to hope for.
You were just talking about questions you received a lot.
Opmerkingen die je veel kreeg.
Comments that you often received.
What are the questions you get the most?
Ooh, I think I'm currently getting the most questions about how much of a difference your individual choice makes.
Ja, ik denk dat dat het is.
Yes, I think that's it.
Er zijn echt...
There really are...
Yes, so you can certainly take a number of directions with your own responsibility in this area.
And for example a movement like Extinction Rebellion is quite prominent.
It is not the choice of the individual.
But it is the systems and the really big polluters.
And from the TATA's to the fossil subsidies that make the big difference.
So what does that actually mean for me as a person?
Does it still make sense for me to make my own choices?
Dus ja, een beetje op dat niveau.
So yes, a bit at that level.
En zal ik het antwoord geven ook?
And should I give the answer as well?
Wat ik dan denk, ja.
What I think then, yes.
My answer is, and you can certainly guess it, definitely yes.
En eigenlijk om twee redenen.
And actually for two reasons.
I don't completely agree that you can make such a division between...
It is the major polluters, the large companies, the governments.
And so our individual choices don't matter.
It lies in the fact that the decisions made are at large companies in governments.
Dat zijn wij ook allemaal zelf.
That is also who we all are.
Wij zijn degene die daar.
We are the ones who are there.
Werken, bijvoorbeeld.
Working, for example.
We are the ones who know people who work there.
We are the ones who either work for the government or vote for those who are in the government.
At the moment we detach ourselves from the feeling...
We are the ones who lead this life here as well, and therefore shape life with our choices.
If we don’t live that ourselves, then it becomes much harder to take on the role of someone who makes decisions.
And then it's suddenly feasible there.
Kijk, degene natuurlijk...
Look, the one of course...
If you ask who is responsible for a better world, then I think there are at least three.
Three kinds of power structures that keep each other in balance.
Bedrijven, regeringen, consumenten of eigenlijk in mijn...
Companies, governments, consumers, or actually in my...
Ik zeg liever burgers.
I prefer to say burgers.
We as consumers naturally make choices every day with our wallets and with our...
Actually, every choice we make is something we say when I buy something.
Here is my money to continue with it.
Because I think what you do is fantastic.
Op welke manier je je vakanties boekt.
In what way do you book your vacations?
In what way you look at what you do and do not eat.
Al die dingen hebben ontzettend impact.
All those things have an enormous impact.
I have two things to say about that.
At the moment that you no longer do that in your personal life.
Because you think, yes, it's just the big companies, the large structures.
Then it becomes difficult because at the moment you are asked to be a citizen and to vote.
Or that you are asked to make choices in your work that have a much greater impact.
Omdat dan nog steeds wel...
Because then still...
Want je bent dezelfde persoon.
Because you are the same person.
So I think that at the moment you live that yourself.
That it becomes infinitely more logical and easier.
To implement that kind of decisions at every level.
I don't think you can make a distinction between the different individuals who make consumer decisions on an individual level.
And that same person who makes decisions in the management of ING, for example.
So I think it's very important that we all continue to do that as individuals.
Because we all have a role in society in various ways.
In addition, if I keep making that choice as an individual.
Dan draag ik bij aan de massa.
Then I contribute to the mass.
If I don't make that choice, I'm not contributing to the mass at that moment.
Hoe ontstaat een massa?
How does a mass arise?
Door ongelooflijk veel individuele keuzes.
Due to an incredible number of individual choices.
We are here now just the two of us in this podcast.
If one of us had not made that decision.
Weren't we the two of us in this podcast?
At the moment we are sitting with a hundred people in a room.
And fifty people had made the decision not to do that.
If only we were fifty in a room.
At the moment that a million people in the Netherlands choose to eat plant-based as standard.
En een miljoen doet dat niet.
And a million doesn't do that.
Then it's a million instead of two million.
So every individual decision contributes to the masses.
Without your individual decision, that mass does not exist.
Dus ik denk ook.
So I think so too.
That it is incredibly important that we all continue to feel that.
That your choice means that a mass can arise.
Als je dat niet doet.
If you don't do that.
Dan is hij er niet.
Then he is not there.
En als we dat allemaal niet doen.
And if we don't all do that.
Dan zijn we nergens.
Then we are nowhere.
Ja.
Yes.
Ik kan eigenlijk niks meer aan toevoegen.
I actually can't add anything more to that.
Heel mooi.
Very nice.
Ik denk dan inderdaad wel van.
I indeed think that.
Ik ben benieuwd hoe jij daarop reageert.
I am curious to see how you will react to that.
But as long as the masses keep doing what they do.
We blijven natuurlijk altijd.
We will always stay, of course.
Met die kudde dieren die.
With that herd of animals that.
Of ja gewoon schapen die elkaar kopiëren.
Oh yes, just sheep that copy each other.
Zeg maar.
Go ahead.
Dus datgene wat.
So that which.
Ja normaal is.
Yes, it is normal.
Zoals iedereen leeft.
As everyone lives.
There will always be people living for that.
So then you say what you actually mean.
Je hebt echt gewoon een collectief nodig.
You really just need a collective.
Van mensen die het anders doen.
Of people who do it differently.
Het liefst zo groot mogelijk.
As big as possible.
And they are going to set a movement in motion.
Ja honderd procent.
Yes, one hundred percent.
Je noemt een aantal redenen.
You mention a number of reasons.
Waarom ik het bijvoorbeeld zo belangrijk vond.
Why I found it so important, for example.
Om dit onderwerp ook in een programma.
To include this topic in a program.
Op de publieke omroep te hebben.
To be on the public broadcaster.
Of in ieder geval.
Or at least.
Of op tv.
Or on TV.
En om bijvoorbeeld een podcast te maken.
And to make a podcast, for example.
Die ik maak.
That I make.
Want je hebt gelijk.
Because you are right.
Wat er moet gebeuren.
What needs to happen.
Is het normaliseren van duurzaam leven.
Is normalizing sustainable living.
Dat moet de norm worden.
That should become the norm.
In feite waardoor we inderdaad daar.
In fact, that’s why we are indeed there.
Eigenlijk met z'n allen heen gaan.
Actually, go there together.
Omdat dat hetgene is.
Because that is what it is.
Wat we normaal zijn gaan vinden.
What we have come to find normal.
Wat we nu normaal zijn gaan vinden.
What we have now come to consider normal.
Is vaak totaal niet in ons eigen voordeel.
Is often not in our own interest at all.
Niet in het voordeel van de wereld.
Not in the interest of the world.
Wel in het voordeel van.
Well in favor of.
Een heel klein clubje.
A very small club.
Hele rijke mensen.
Very rich people.
Die op deze manier.
That way.
Eigenlijk steeds rijker worden.
Actually becoming richer all the time.
Omdat het een soort van fuik.
Because it's a kind of funnel.
Onze economie is een soort van fuikeconomie.
Our economy is a kind of trap economy.
Zo snel mogelijk.
As quickly as possible.
Zoveel mogelijk.
As much as possible.
Voor zo weinig mogelijk.
For as little as possible.
Voor winstmaximalisatie.
For profit maximization.
Een soort van kolonialistische structuur.
A kind of colonial structure.
We continue to implement that in various places.
Where we are actually a kind of pawn in.
En in gebruikt worden.
And be used.
Met allemaal producten en keuzes.
With all products and choices.
Die helemaal niet een hoge kwaliteit hebben.
They don't have a high quality at all.
Maar eerder een hoge.
But rather a high one.
Een hoge wisselsnelheid.
A high exchange rate.
Omzetsnelheid.
Turnover rate.
Het is gewoon pompen.
It's just pumping.
Het is echt pompen.
It's really pumping.
Kwaliteit.
Quality.
Ja.
Yes.
Absoluut kwaliteit boven kwaliteit.
Absolutely quality over quality.
Dat noem je ook in de podcast.
You also mention that in the podcast.
Ik ben niet heel veel veranderd.
I haven't changed much.
Blijkbaar.
Apparently.
Nee.
No.
Als er één tip is.
If there is one tip.
Die je zou mogen geven aan iedereen.
That you could give to everyone.
Dan zou dat kies voor kies kwaliteit.
Then choose tooth for tooth quality.
Boven kwaliteit.
Above quality.
Nou ja goed.
Well, that's fine.
En dus ik zou dat dan nu.
And so I would do that now.
Denk ik ook bovenop zetten.
I also think I should add that.
Neem die.
Take that.
Goeie tip.
Good tip.
Ja.
Yes.
En dan.
And then.
En verder ook.
And furthermore as well.
Denk ik.
I think so.
Stel altijd een vraag.
Always ask a question.
In what we have normally come to accept.
Laten we dat bevragen.
Let's question that.
Dat lijkt me een hele goede.
That seems like a very good idea to me.
Zeg maar tweede.
Just say second.
Over zes jaar komt dan de derde.
In six years, the third one will come.
Want dat is denk ik.
Because that's what I think.
Dat is super belangrijk.
That is super important.
Ik ben in de afgelopen zes jaar.
I have been in the past six years.
Een aantal nieuwe dingen begonnen.
A number of new things started.
Waaronder bijvoorbeeld.
Including, for example.
Sustainability against shame.
Sustainability against shame.
Dat moet in de afgelopen zes jaar.
That must have happened in the past six years.
Zijn geweest.
Have been.
Een beweging tegen schaamte.
A movement against shame.
Omdat we constant ook aangepraat krijgen.
Because we are constantly being fed this narrative.
Dat we niet oké zijn.
That we are not okay.
Right.
Rechtdoor.
Ja.
Yes.
Dat we er niet goed uitzien.
That we don't look good.
Dat we niet de juiste kleren dragen.
That we are not wearing the right clothes.
Niet de juiste lichaamsvorm hebben.
Not having the right body shape.
Dat ons haar grijs wordt.
That our hair is turning gray.
Dat we rimpels krijgen.
That we get wrinkles.
Dat we zweten.
That we are sweating.
Door advertenties.
Through advertisements.
Dus door.
So go ahead.
Advertenties.
Advertisements.
Social media.
Social media.
Tijdschriften.
Magazines.
Overal om je heen.
All around you.
Posters.
Posters.
Alles.
Everything.
En onbewust ook vaak.
And often unconsciously as well.
Zeer.
Very.
Dat je het niet eens door hebt.
That you don't even realize it.
We hebben het niet eens door.
We don't even notice it.
Duizenden boodschappen per dag.
Thousands of messages per day.
Vanaf dat we al heel klein zijn.
Since we are very small.
Dat wordt met social media niet minder.
That won't change with social media.
In die zin.
In that sense.
Nee.
No.
Dat is een eufemisme.
That is a euphemism.
And so that effect is also becoming larger.
That we are so incredibly influenced in negative thinking about ourselves.
Dat er altijd een tekort is.
That there is always a shortage.
Something we do not meet the standard for.
Die norm die verandert ook steeds.
That standard is also constantly changing.
Which is nothing more than proof that it is fake.
Right.
Rechts.
Want het is.
Because it is.
Het spreekt zichzelf constant tegen.
It constantly contradicts itself.
Because you have to be this and then that again.
Want ja.
Because yes.
We moeten toch maar blijven kopen.
We just have to keep buying.
Whereby everything that is natural about yourself.
En waar we mee geboren zijn.
And what we are born with.
Een taboe wordt gemaakt.
A taboo is being created.
Of niet.
Or not.
Oké.
Okay.
Zweten.
Sweating.
Als je het niet weet.
If you don't know.
Ga je dood.
Go die.
Want dan oververhit je.
Because then you overheat.
Rimpelen is maar goed ook.
Rippling is a good thing too.
Because that does mean we're getting a bit older.
En dat het de bedoeling.
And that is the intention.
While becoming a parent would be the norm.
Daar hoeven we niks voor te doen.
We don't have to do anything for that.
Prachtige grijze haren heb je.
You have beautiful gray hair.
Kijk zo hoor.
Look like this, you know.
Hier.
Here.
Zeker weten.
Sure thing.
Iets grijzer geworden dan zes jaar geleden.
A bit grayer than six years ago.
Iets grijzer geworden.
A bit grayer.
En gelukkig maar.
And luckily so.
Stel je voor.
Imagine.
Want we zijn er nog.
Because we are still here.
Maar goed.
But all right.
Als ouder worden de norm is.
As a parent, becoming the norm is.
Dan kunnen we niks verkopen.
Then we can't sell anything.
Want dat gaat vanzelf.
Because that will happen on its own.
Dus jonger eruitzien moet de norm zijn.
So looking younger should be the norm.
Want daar kunnen we.
Because there we can.
Dan kunnen we gaan vechten.
Then we can go fight.
Then we can go from color stamps to makeup.
Tot ingrepen.
Until interventions.
Ja vechten moeten we.
Yes, we must fight.
Keihard.
Hard as nails.
Vechten tegen de natuur.
Fighting against nature.
Totaal.
Total.
En dat is denk ik.
And I think that is.
Een van de belangrijke dingen.
One of the important things.
Om te blijven zien.
To keep seeing.
Dat ons heel veel wordt aangepraat.
That a lot is being imposed on us.
En dat heeft twee belangrijke effecten.
And that has two important effects.
Op dit gebied.
In this area.
That we feel negatively about ourselves a large part of the time.
Well, I find that reason enough to rise up.
Alleen maar voor winst.
Only for profit.
Voor grote bedrijven.
For large companies.
And that it becomes more difficult to behave sustainably.
Want eigenlijk worden we maar steeds aangepraat.
Because we are just being talked into things.
Dat we een probleem hebben.
That we have a problem.
What we can only solve by buying certain products.
Of het nou make-up, afstandproducten, superfoods, sportgadgets.
Whether it's makeup, distance products, superfoods, or sports gadgets.
Het maakt niet uit.
It doesn't matter.
Die corona kilo's moeten eraf.
Those corona kilos need to come off.
You can’t think of anything too crazy that it won’t be taken advantage of.
To tell us that we need to change.
En daarvoor moeten we consumeren.
And for that, we need to consume.
And I got started on this.
Omdat ik me zo afvroeg.
Because I was so wondering.
How is it that we know quite a lot about the state of the world?
En ons effect erop.
And our effect on it.
And that we find it so difficult to change our behavior.
Wat zit daar in de weg?
What is blocking the way?
This is one of the ways to actually keep us in that buying frenzy.
To convince ourselves that we are never good enough.
Dus een tweede tip.
So a second tip.
Boven kwaliteit, boven kwantiteit.
Quality over quantity.
Is dus ook.
So it is.
Wonder if what you think about yourself.
And that which you receive as a message from the outside.
Of het klopt.
Whether it is correct.
And whether that which we have come to consider normal.
Ook in je eigen voordeel is.
Also in your own interest is.
Because I think this is recognized and you resist it.
It is necessary to save not only ourselves but also the world.
Let's stay for a moment with those questions you often receive.
Opmerkingen.
Comments.
Is there a question that you find very uncomfortable?
Waar je ongemakkelijk van wordt?
What makes you uncomfortable?
Die je soms krijgt?
That you sometimes get?
Hm.
Hm.
Een vraag die ik ongemakkelijk vind.
A question that I find uncomfortable.
Ik denk dat ik.
I think that I.
Ik word soms een beetje ongemakkelijk van.
It sometimes makes me a bit uncomfortable.
Elkaar de maat nemen.
Measuring each other up.
Ik denk dat ik dat.
I think so too.
Ja, vingertje wijzen.
Yes, pointing fingers.
Het is het is.
It is what it is.
We vinden het.
We find it.
Het is een zeker.
It is a certainty.
Dat is echt een sociale media iets.
That's really a social media thing.
This happens to me in what you might call real life.
In personal questions, I never really have this.
Maar op sociale media.
But on social media.
Well, that people then enjoy trying to catch you.
Dus inderdaad.
So indeed.
Whether you can wear nails and say credible things.
Ehm dus make-up en lipsticks gaat veel over uiterlijk dat soort dingen.
Um, so make-up and lipsticks are largely about appearance and those kinds of things.
Sometimes people can't tell if the things you're wearing are second-hand.
Hm ik draag in binnenste buiten hm heel regelmatig dezelfde kleding.
Hmm, I often wear the same clothes inside out.
Dat doe ik expres.
I do that on purpose.
I find it very important to show that you can be very okay.
Professionally acceptable if you don't constantly wear something different, and that is often the norm on television. It's actually the thought that people think you will work with a stylist who comes with an outfit rack for you and so on. Well, that's not the case in my program, definitely not for our presenters, but for me certainly not. I want to show that it's perfectly okay to wear the same thing very often because it's, of course, a very strange idea that your clothing is only good if it's always different.
Ja.
Yes.
That you would only wear your clothes once, and as a presenter, you can quickly contribute to that image if you are always seen in a different outfit.
So then I can suggest my reaction of oh that uh that must be smelling by now.
For example, you don't have enough money to buy something new.
Ja.
Yes.
And the reverse also occurs, which I find very interesting.
I now have over fifty, I haven't counted them, but certainly more than fifty to make sixty items for Inside Out.
In that, I am wearing the same pants in each item.
Sowieso.
Anyway.
En dan wissel ik een redelijk beperkt.
And then I exchange rather limited.
Dat is ook al wel een meldpaal.
That is already quite a milestone as well.
Ja inderdaad.
Yes indeed.
Daar kunnen mensen nu op gaan letten.
People can now pay attention to that.
En ik wissel een redelijk beperkt.
And I exchange a fairly limited amount.
De eerste presentator.
The first presenter.
Wat zei je?
What did you say?
He is the first presenter on Dutch television to wear the same thing for fifty episodes in a row.
Ik weet het niet.
I don't know.
Laat het.
Let it be.
I exchange a fairly limited number of tops.
And so the editorial team does still receive emails indicating that the so-called sustainability presenter from Inside Out wears a different outfit in each episode.
Ja.
Yes.
Maar het is dus ook niet zo.
But it is also not like that.
So I don't wear a different outfit in every episode.
And so that image that presenters have.
You can also get that at the moment even when you're not doing it.
Dat is een heel vast vast beeld.
That is a very strong fixed image.
Wat we hebben.
What we have.
van op tv komen. Het is dus soms ook
coming on TV. So it is sometimes also
best lastig om daar
quite difficult to do that
to break through. Sometimes I also feel a bit there.
onzeker van. Dat ik denk,
uncertain of. That I think,
ja, eigenlijk,
yes, actually,
I also find it quite fun to do it once.
iets anders aan te hebben, maar ook
to have something else on, but also
Sometimes I feel a bit vulnerable because of it.
Omdat je er echt wel
Because you really do
van afwijkt, zeg maar.
deviates, so to speak.
Maar ja, ik doe het met
But yes, I do it with
a goal. I am trying to make a point with it.
Ik ben ook naar het boekenbal
I am also going to the book ball.
nu achter elkaar steeds in exact
now consecutively exactly
dezelfde outfit gegaan.
went in the same outfit.
Dus ja,
So yes,
als echt, zeg maar, tegenwicht
as truly, so to speak, counterbalance
daartegen.
against that. So to ask questions about what we
met z'n allen normaal vinden
finding it normal together
in de beeldvorming.
in the imaging.
In de aflevering had je het over
In the episode, you talked about
het boek van Chris Hetfield.
the book by Chris Hetfield.
Een Astronaut's
An Astronaut's
Guide to Life on Earth.
Guide to Life on Earth.
Prachtig.
Beautiful.
Dat je
That you
so far your most favorite book is.
Is that still the case six years later?
Well, I would certainly recognize it as one of my
lievelings. Het is een boek dat ik zo nu en dan er wel eens
favorite. It's a book that I occasionally take out.
bij pak.
by pack.
Dat vind ik echt
I really think that.
een belangrijk boek. Om
an important book. To
natuurlijk wat hij geleerd heeft over de
of course what he has learned about the
See from afar how vulnerable the earth is.
Maar ook omdat hij echt
But also because he really
belangrijke lessen als astronaut
important lessons as an astronaut
introduceert. Wat natuurlijk
introduces. What of course
een heel intense manier
a very intense way
van samenleving is waarin je heel erg
of society is in which you are very much
van elkaar afhankelijk bent. Dat zijn
are dependent on each other. Those are
we natuurlijk op aarde eigenlijk ook enorm.
we are of course actually enormous on earth too.
Ik vind zijn concept van
I find his concept of
plus één zijn
to be plus one
in een situatie een heel interessant
in a situation a very interesting
concept. Als je iets moet
concept. If you need to do something
solve together when you are working on something
dan zegt hij probeer
then he says try
dan in elk geval altijd
then in any case always
geen min één te zijn. Dus dat
to be at least one. So that
you don't make it harder in any case
of de taak
of the task
compliceert. Of
complicates. Or
als je er niks vanaf weet
if you know nothing about it
or if you can't really help, then be
een nul. Dat het in ieder geval
a zero. That it at least
door jou niet minder wordt. Maar kijk
doesn't become any less because of you. But look
In any case, always very good where you can be a plus one.
laat jezelf dan ook horen. Als je
then make yourself heard. If you
een plus één kunt zijn, help. Als je
one plus one can be, help. If you
I think I can at least take care of.
ondersteuning, wees een nul.
support, be a zero.
If you think that your influence is at least one.
Regarding the situation, regarding the world, then don't do it.
Vind ik een heel mooi
I think it's very beautiful.
redelijk simpel en goed toepasbaar
fairly simple and easily applicable
principe voor hoe we ons kunnen verhouden
principle for how we can relate to each other
tot elkaar.
to each other.
So I always try to keep that in mind.
Het veilig en gezond houden van deze
Keeping this safe and healthy
planeet. Ja, maar ook
planet. Yes, but also
in hoe je gewoon in dagelijks
in how you simply in daily
leven één op één als mensen
live one-on-one as people
met elkaar kunt zijn.
can be with each other.
Dus dat heb ik nog steeds.
So I still have that.
In de boekenkast staan.
Standing in the bookcase.
I think a book that I hadn't read yet.
zes jaar geleden, wat ik
six years ago, what I
nu heel belangrijk vind, is
I now find very important is
Untamed van Glennon Doyle.
Untamed by Glennon Doyle.
Die ken ik, ja.
I know him, yes.
Een fantastisch boek. Ongetemd, hè?
A fantastic book. Unbridled, right?
Ongetemd leven in het Nederlands.
Untamed living in Dutch.
That could be. I have it in English, but yes,
dat zouden we misschien in de show notes
we might include that in the show notes
kunnen zetten, wat de Nederlands versie is.
can put, what the Dutch version is.
Omdat dat
Because that
een ontzettend herkenbaar
an incredibly recognizable
boek voor mij was. En dat is natuurlijk altijd fijn.
book was for me. And that is of course always nice.
That you read something that makes you think, oh,
hallo,
hello,
Someone experiences what I also experience in life.
En wat er gaat over
And what it is about
wat vrouwen
what women
en iedereen die zich als vrouw
and everyone who identifies as a woman
identificeert
identifies
meekrijgen vanaf het moment dat ze
get along from the moment that they
being born almost, about what their role is in the
samenleving, hoe ze zich moeten gedragen,
society, how they should behave,
hoe ze eruit moeten zien.
how they should look.
And how small you can be kept in that.
Untamed.
Untamed.
Tamed en untamed
Tamed and untamed
in een soort van wildierachtige,
in a sort of wild-like,
vergelijking.
comparison.
En dat heeft me enorm veel gebracht.
And that has brought me a lot.
En ook wel veel,
And also a lot,
misschien wat meer durf gegeven.
maybe a bit more courage given.
Of zo.
Oh, I see.
Ik heb wel schaamte gehad over,
I have felt ashamed about,
en ook wel veel oordeel
and also a lot of judgment
over mezelf. Over dat ik
about myself. About that I
dacht dat
thought that
it might be a good idea to go to
televisie te gaan.
to go on television.
Ik keek altijd een beetje
I always looked a little.
neer op zo'n ambitie
down on such ambition
bij mezelf. Dit gaat echt
with myself. This is really happening.
very much about how I looked at myself.
Ik had
I had
a lot of judgment about what that means for the ego
zou zijn.
would be.
En heb dus
And so have
wel jaren gedacht,
well thought for years,
ik zou dat misschien wel willen.
I might want that.
And there are people who think I could do that.
Maar, ja, jeetje,
But, yes, gosh,
moet je, weet je, arrogant,
you must, you know, arrogant
ego, dat soort dingen.
ego, that kind of thing.
Vond ik echt veel van.
I really cared a lot about that.
Until I actually made some progress in that.
en me realiseerde.
and I realized.
That happened in a funny way, by the way.
Ik ging solliciteren voor het bestuur van
I went to apply for the board of
een feministische organisatie, de Bovengrondse.
a feminist organization, the Bovengrondse.
Die bestaat helaas niet meer.
Unfortunately, it no longer exists.
Die deden fantastische acties in de
They did fantastic actions in the
buitenwereld. Bijvoorbeeld, we hebben heel veel
outside world. For example, we have a lot of
straatnamenborden. Die zijn
street name signs. They are
bijna allemaal een mannennaam. Dus die gingen
almost all a male name. So they went
met stickers allemaal vrouwennamen
with stickers all female names
op de bordjes
on the plates
namen doen. Of bijvoorbeeld, je hebt het
name them. Or for example, you have it
Spellings ABC.
Spelling ABC.
Als ik bijvoorbeeld mijn postcode zeg,
For example, if I say my postal code,
dan zou je gewoon ook zeggen Victor
then you would just say Victor too
Zacharias. Dat zijn allemaal mannennamen.
Zacharias. Those are all male names.
So by replacing that with women's names.
Nou, dat vind ik allemaal heel tof. Dus er kwam
Well, I think that's all really cool. So there came
a position on the board and I wanted to be part of that.
En toen moest ik een persoonlijkheidstest doen.
And then I had to take a personality test.
Had ik nog nooit gedaan.
I had never done that before.
I thought that was a good idea because you want
natuurlijk verschillende soorten personen in een team
of course different types of people in a team
en verschillende soorten kwaliteiten. Dus dat was leuk.
and different types of qualities. So that was nice.
En toen moest ik een persoonlijkheidstest doen
And then I had to take a personality test.
en daar kwam uit
and there came out
dat eigenlijk echt mijn grote
that is actually really my big
kwaliteit, mijn kernkwaliteit
quality, my core quality
is dat ik
is that me
een soort van leiderschap op podia
a kind of leadership on stages
kan innemen.
can take in.
Waardoor ik mensen mee kan nemen
Which allows me to take people along.
in dingen die belangrijk zijn.
in things that are important.
En ik wist niet
And I didn't know.
wat me overkwam in die zin.
what happened to me in that sense.
Want eigenlijk
Because actually
vanaf dat moment realiseerde ik me
from that moment on I realized
het is misschien
it is maybe
eigenlijk een heel positief iets wat je
actually a very positive thing that you
kan hebben. En daar
can have. And there
you don't necessarily have to be negative about it
denken. Het is ook iets wat nodig
to think. It is also something that is necessary
is. Er zijn verschillende dingen nodig
There are several things needed.
in de beweging voor een betere wereld.
in the movement for a better world.
En dit verhaal op een podium vertellen
And tell this story on a stage.
en dat, zoals in het geval
and that, as in the case
van Binnenste Buiten, ons gemiddelde is
from Inside Out, our average is
ruim een half miljoen met
over half a million with
uitschieters en soms naar beneden ligt
outliers and sometimes lies down
een beetje aan winter, zomer.
a bit of winter, summer.
Het is ongelooflijk
It is unbelievable.
belangrijk dat we zoveel mogelijk
important that we do as much as possible
mensen meenemen.
take people along.
And who knows, it might just be actually only
maar een handige skill
but a handy skill
and a tool that you can simply use.
Dus dat kun je gewoon doen. Dat is eigenlijk heel goed.
So you can just do that. That's actually very good.
Ik snap
I understand.
ook wel je punt, want ik heb
also your point, because I have
Dennis Storm was interviewed again six years later.
and he also had certain ambitions within the
publieke omroep. Hij wilde daar programma's maken
public broadcaster. He wanted to create programs there.
over de boeken die hij nu
about the books he now
eigenlijk schrijft. En daar liep hij eigenlijk tegen
actually writes. And that's what he actually ran into.
een muur aan. Dat was de publieke omroep
a wall. That was the public broadcaster.
het niet mee eens. Dus daarin
not agree. So in that
I understand, but this was of course right away.
een programma wat over duurzaamheid ging.
a program that was about sustainability.
And then I might also understand your
doubts about whether I can do what I want there
doen? Ja, en ook mag ik dat
do? Yes, and I am also allowed to do that.
van mezelf? Is het eigenlijk niet?
Isn't it actually from myself?
Weet je wel, wil ik...
You know, I want to...
I would of course love to do that, because I
ik wil graag
I would like to
verschil maken. En dat kun je op heel
make a difference. And you can do that in a very
veel verschillende manieren doen. En een van de dingen
do many different things. And one of the things
die ik echt voelde,
that I really felt,
dat er nog miste, was dat
that what was still missing, was that
dit onderwerp echt breed
this subject is really broad
in de media
in the media
gewoon op een dagelijks programma
just on a daily schedule
kwam.
came.
Maar je neemt jezelf natuurlijk mee.
But of course, you bring yourself along.
That of course also means that you then yourself
op tv komt. En ik
comes on TV. And I
dacht niet zozeer,
didn't think so much,
misschien willen ze die onderwerpen niet. Ik
maybe they don't want those subjects. I
dacht meer, wie
thought more, who
ben ik om dat te doen?
Am I supposed to do that?
En ben ik niet gewoon
And am I not just
only with my kind of big ego
bezig?
busy?
En ja,
And yes,
dat moet je allemaal niet willen.
You shouldn't want any of that.
While that certainly keeps you very small,
dat soort gedachten. Het is natuurlijk ook, er komen
that kind of thoughts. It's also, there are coming
more things with it. It is also the fear that it won't succeed.
Angst dat je wordt afgewezen.
Fear of being rejected.
Angst dat je het niet
Fear that you won't
goed doet.
does good. And that you might only make it worse.
maakt in de publieke opinie. Er zijn
creates in public opinion. There are
allerlei verschillende gedachten bij. Maar
various different thoughts. But
one of them was also definitely that I just myself
tegenhield ook, doordat ik
also held back, because I
also a bit natural, we all have that,
maar zeker ook als vrouwen, geleerd heb
but certainly also as women, I have learned
om daar bij jezelf over te twijfelen.
to doubt yourself about that.
And to think that you probably won't be able to.
Of dat het niet goed zal gaan.
Or that it will not go well.
Of daar al allerlei
Or there all sorts of
meteen een soort van tegenwind
immediately a kind of headwind
bij jezelf te creëren.
to create within yourself.
En dat deed ik ook.
And I did that too.
Dus zo'n test en zo'n boek,
So such a test and such a book,
daarom haal ik het aan, omdat
that's why I mention it, because
dat boek je dat wel afleert.
That book will teach you that.
Dus iedereen die dit
So everyone who this
wel herkent en denkt, ja,
well recognizes and thinks, yes,
ook ik ben voornamelijk aan het leven,
I too am mainly living,
omdat er, er zijn constant
because there are constantly
gewoon regels over hoe je moet zijn.
just rules about how to be.
Hoe je je mag gedragen.
How you are allowed to behave.
Over waar je aan moet voldoen.
About what you need to comply with.
Weg ermee.
Get rid of it.
Gewoon echt.
Just really.
Dus ja, ungetamed, ongetamed leven
So yes, untamed, untamed living.
is erbij gekomen.
has been added.
Ja.
Yes.
Je had, wat we het ook even
You had, whatever we call it.
you have, is you are anyway also, just like
ik, een liefhebber van minimalisme.
I, a lover of minimalism.
Noem het ook
Name it too
essentialisme, genoegisme, vind ik ook
essentialism, enoughism, I think so too
fijne termen. Eigenlijk nog wel iets
nice terms. Actually, something else.
beter dan minimalisme, omdat dat veel meer
better than minimalism, because that much more
ja,
yes,
meer iets vertelt van de
more tells something of the
absence of something, instead of the presence
from just that which is essential or important.
Je bent er nog steeds
You are still there.
een liefhebber van, toch?
a lover of, right?
Zeker, ja.
Sure, yes.
En hoe gaat het ermee? Want je vertelde over
And how is it going? Because you were telling about
zes jaar geleden dat je weer,
six years ago that you again,
or that there was renovation in your house.
Renovatie.
Renovation.
Yes, that's all, you still live in the same house.
Yes, so we are back in that house that was being renovated.
Dus we wonen in een huurhuis wat
So we live in a rented house that
uit de jaren twintig,
from the twenties,
van de vorige eeuw,
from the previous century,
natuurlijk komt dus wat
of course something is coming
gerenoveerd is. En
is renovated. And
nu mochten we weer, we wonen
now we could again, we live
ik denk nu twee jaar
I think for two years now.
weer in dit huis.
again in this house.
Yes, there are still people who think
dat we er net zijn gaan wonen.
that we just moved there.
Het is behoorlijk leeg.
It is quite empty.
En
And
it is always such a beautiful moment again
om er weer even goed
to feel good again
doorheen te gaan. Dus dat hebben we ook echt gedaan.
to go through it. So we actually did that as well.
That is true, yes, it’s just really nice.
Ik hou ervan dat het, er gebeurt
I love that it's happening.
al genoeg in mijn hoofd. Ik
already enough in my head. I
I love it when it's quiet around me.
is. En
is. And
in mijn ervaring worden we
in my experience we become
van hoe meer spullen we hebben
of how much more stuff we have
toch ook wel
after all, yes
eigenlijk eerder
actually earlier
minder gelukkig dan blijer.
less happy than happier.
Want het leidt enorm af.
Because it is extremely distracting.
Je moet er van alles mee
You have to do all sorts of things with it.
uren besteden aan aankoopbeslissingen
spending hours on purchasing decisions
and then again making decisions about whether you
het gaat terugsturen of niet. Het helpt
It's about returning it or not. It helps.
gewoon niet over het algemeen.
just not in general.
What are your tips to keep going? Because at a certain point
heb je dan zo'n huis,
do you have such a house,
en dan is het ook
and then it is also
minimalisme of essentialisme
minimalism or essentialism
moet je toch bijhouden.
You have to keep up with it.
Wat zijn jouw tips?
What are your tips?
Naar anderen toe?
To others?
Yes, having a good conversation with each other.
Het eens in de zoveel tijd. Blijven communiceren.
Every now and then. Keep communicating.
Ja, communiceren daarover. Eens in de zoveel tijd
Yes, communicate about it. Every once in a while.
Do we have to talk about what we again?
belangrijk vinden en waar het heen gaat.
to find important and where it is going.
En ja, dan
And yes, then
kijken we weer eens om ons heen. Zeg maar, ik denk dat
let's take a look around again. Just say, I think that
dat belangrijk is.
that is important.
We are really a team in this.
Ja, team IJskoot Corstra is dat.
Yes, that is team IJskoot Corstra.
Wij wonen hier met z'n tweeën.
We live here with just the two of us.
En ja, dus
And yes, so
dat is wel echt, ik vind dat
that is really true, I think that
sowieso fijn om
anyway nice to
om eens in de zoveel tijd echt weer even
to really take a moment once in a while
to reflect on what your shared values are.
Ik voel de laatste tijd echt
I really feel lately
behoorlijk veel meer vuur en activisme
considerably more fire and activism
to really start taking big steps in
ons, zeg maar, eigen
our, let's say, own
persoonlijke leven.
personal life.
Ik kan me herinneren van het gesprek
I can remember from the conversation.
wat wij toen voerden,
what we were conducting at that time,
that has stuck with me, that I
eh
uh
, eigenlijk, volgens mij kwam ik een beetje
Well, actually, I think I came a bit.
op mezelf terug, in de zin van
back to myself, in the sense of
heb je nou vaak het gevoel dat
do you often feel that
je niet genoeg doet?
you're not doing enough?
Well, I don't really have that much.
En tegelijkertijd, volgens mij zei ik,
And at the same time, I believe I said,
I can remember that I revisited that, maybe.
if you go back to listen, it's not like that, but
then I said, look, it is of course really true for me as well
belangrijk om
important to
te practice what you preach,
to practice what you preach,
in die zin. En ik wil natuurlijk
in that sense. And I want of course
wel ook echt zoveel mogelijk doen
Well, also really do as much as possible.
wat ik kan, anders zou het ook
what I can, otherwise it would also
niet geloofwaardig zijn.
to be not credible.
Maar, ik ben duurzaamheidsexpert,
But, I am a sustainability expert,
because I find it very important. It's not that way, I find it very
belangrijk en dus ben ik duurzaamheidsexpert.
important and thus I am a sustainability expert.
Dus, zoom is het. Het komt
So, zoom it is. It's coming.
vanuit datgene
from that which
wat diep in mijn eigen hart zit
what lies deep in my own heart
And that's why I decided to specialize in it.
Dus, eigenlijk,
So, actually,
als ik er nu over nadenk,
if I think about it now,
heb ik de afgelopen jaren,
I have the past few years,
misschien zeker ook jaar en maanden,
maybe certainly also year and months,
constant the feeling that I am not doing enough.
En dat vind ik vooral over mezelf.
And I especially think that about myself.
Niet van andere
Not of others
individuen, in die zin.
individuals, in that sense.
Ja, wel van mezelf.
Yes, from myself.
De urgentie wordt natuurlijk
The urgency becomes natural.
In recent years, it has also simply been very much.
benadrukt. In de politieke
emphasized. In the political
situatie, in hoe extremer
situation, the more extreme
the weather will just be normal for us.
Hoe hard het gaat.
How hard it goes.
En dus, ja,
And so, yes,
are we not increasingly looking at
How can you go further in that?
And that really gives me a lot again.
enthousiasme
enthusiasm
en energie. Zeg maar, welke keuzes
and energy. Just say, what choices
je kunt maken. Dus, aan welke gezamenlijke
you can make. So, which joint
zonnepanelenprojecten
solar panel projects
kunnen we meedoen in de buurt?
Can we participate in the neighborhood?
Welke voedselred
Which food reason
coöperatie kunnen we
we can cooperate
nog bij?
still there?
Ook natuurlijk om gezamenlijk in te kopen
Also of course to buy together.
bijvoorbeeld wat voor biologisch voedsel ook
for example what kind of organic food as well
financially smart is, but you also just make bigger
impact met elkaar. Ja, dus hoe
impact with each other. Yes, so how
kun je daar in je dagelijkse keuzes
can you incorporate that into your daily choices
nog veel meer
much more
in kwijt? Ja.
Am I lost? Yes.
Dikke kans dat we met een
Big chance that we will be with a
zonnepaneelcoöperatie in echt
solar panel cooperative in Echt
in onze buurt hier zeg maar achter gaan meedoen.
In our neighborhood here, let's say, get involved.
Because we have a rental house, we are not allowed to have solar panels.
op ons eigen dak of muur
on our own roof or wall
bevestigen.
confirm.
But there are a number of very nice cooperatives.
bij ons in de buurt gestart.
started in our neighborhood.
Yes, causing them to end up somewhere else,
maar wij natuurlijk gewoon wel daar dat
but we of course will just be there that
mede mogelijk maken, zeg maar.
make it possible, so to speak.
Ja, dus daar
Yes, so there.
zijn we vrij ver mee.
we're quite far along.
En
And
eigenlijk deze twee zijn echte.
actually, these two are real.
We gaan ook aan een
We are also starting on a
aan een zeg maar boodschappen, biologische voedsel,
to a grocery shopping, organic food,
coöperatie deelnemen
participate in a cooperative
om gezamenlijk
to collaborate
biologische boodschappen in te kopen.
to shop for organic groceries.
Ja, oké.
Yes, okay.
Six years ago you mentioned, when I asked you.
succesvol en duurzaam.
successful and sustainable.
Waar denk je dan aan? Aan wie?
What are you thinking about then? About whom?
Olivia Firth,
Olivia Firth,
Catherine Hamnet
Catherine Hamnet
en Bruno Pieters.
and Bruno Pieters.
Zijn hier nog mensen bijgekomen?
Have any more people joined here?
Oh, tuurlijk. Jeetje mina.
Oh, of course. Goodness me.
Succesvol en duurzaam.
Successful and sustainable.
Zoveel mensen.
So many people.
Vertel.
Tell.
What comes to mind first, probably.
Jamila Jamil, zou ik zeggen.
Jamila Jamil, I would say.
Super succesvol
Super successful
en heel erg impactvol
and very impactful
als het gaat over bijvoorbeeld wetgeving
when it comes to legislation, for example
in reclame
in advertising
wat je bijvoorbeeld voor dieetproducten
what you, for example, do for diet products
She is very concerned with shame.
Zij vecht echt
She really fights.
tegen de dieetcultuur.
against diet culture.
And how much that holds us in its grip,
een super onsuccesvol iets natuurlijk,
a super unsuccessful thing of course,
want het mislukt, ik geloof, 89 of 98
because it fails, I believe, 89 or 98
procent van de tijd.
percent of the time.
And that therefore sustains itself enormously.
En zij vecht daar heel erg tegen.
And she fights against it very hard.
Ze heeft ook een fantastische podcast,
She also has a fantastic podcast.
I Weigh,
I weigh,
dat is gebaseerd op dat,
that is based on that,
volgens mij Kim Kardashian,
in my opinion Kim Kardashian,
daar wil ik vanaf zijn,
I want to be rid of that.
ging ooit online delen
used to share online
wat ze woog.
what she weighed.
En daar heeft Jamila Jamil
And there is Jamila Jamil.
tegenover gezet wat je waard kan zijn,
set against what you can be worth,
je gewicht in goud,
your weight in gold,
dus wat je bijdraagt aan de samenleving.
so what you contribute to society.
Wat jij weegt in belang
What you weigh in importance
en niet in...
and not in...
in kilo's.
in kilos.
En daar is deze podcast uitgekomen.
And this podcast has been released.
Ze spreekt met ongelooflijk veel verschillende
She speaks with an incredible amount of different
vrijheidsstrijders.
freedom fighters.
Eigenlijk is een vrijheidsstrijd, dit.
Actually, this is a struggle for freedom.
And that appeals to me so incredibly much too.
In aan.
On.
Ik denk dat duurzaam leven
I think that sustainable living
ook echt betekent zo vrij mogelijk zijn
it really means being as free as possible
van uitbuiting op allerlei vlakken.
from exploitation in various areas.
And we are part of that ourselves as well,
maar dat geldt natuurlijk zeker voor
but that certainly applies to
de mensen die onze producten maken.
the people who make our products.
Zeker de mensen die dat natuurlijk
Certainly the people who do that naturally.
eigenlijk onze hele goedkope,
actually our whole cheap,
manier van leven sponsoren.
sponsoring a way of life.
Een gevleugelde uitspraak
A winged saying
that I have done a lot in the past six years is
dat iets goedkoop is,
that something is cheap,
betekent niet dat het weinig kost,
doesn't mean it costs little,
but that something or someone else other than you pays that price.
And that is the earth on which we live.
and the people elsewhere who have much less than we do.
Dus ik denk ook dat duurzaamheid
So I also think that sustainability
en duurzamer leven een vrijheidsstrijd is.
and living more sustainably is a struggle for freedom.
Voor de aarde,
For the earth,
voor de mensen, maar ook voor onszelf
for the people, but also for ourselves
die onderdeel zijn van dit systeem
that are part of this system
en het in stand houden,
and maintaining,
maar er ook op een bepaalde manier
but in a certain way as well
dader en slachtoffer van zijn.
perpetrator and victim of it.
En ja, ik vind de manier
And yes, I like the way
waarop zij zich durft uit te spreken.
on which she dares to express herself.
Jamila Jamil speelde onder andere
Jamila Jamil starred in among others
in The Good Place op Netflix.
in The Good Place on Netflix.
Ze is een gevierde actrice
She is a celebrated actress.
en gebruikt haar platform enorm
and uses her platform enormously
om aandacht te vragen
to ask for attention
voor dit mechanisme.
for this mechanism.
En dat vind ik heel knap
And I find that very impressive.
op zo'n positie.
in such a position.
Dat kan je nogal wat kosten.
That can cost you quite a bit.
Niet alleen misschien inrollen
Not just perhaps rolling in.
en hoe het met je carrière gaat,
and how your career is going,
but also in terms of the resistance you encounter.
And then I say that very politely.
In Nederland hebben we dat trouwens ook
In the Netherlands, we have that too, by the way.
met Carice van Houten bijvoorbeeld,
for example, with Carice van Houten,
die natuurlijk ook haar platform
that of course also her platform
ongelooflijk gebruikt
incredibly used
om aandacht te vragen
to grab attention
voor heel veel verschillende belangrijke
for many different important
vrijheidsstrijden.
freedom struggles.
That wasn't the case six years ago.
No, and in those six years quite a few people have.
Of course, the name Carice van Houten has been said to me.
Wat soms best lastig is.
Which can sometimes be quite tricky.
Dat geef ik ook eerlijk toe.
I honestly admit that too.
Ik ben twintig, vijf, vijfentwintig jaar bezig
I am twenty, five, twenty-five years busy.
met dit onderwerp en dan heeft iedereen
with this subject and then everyone has
het ineens over Carice van Houten.
suddenly about Carice van Houten.
Dat is heus niet per se altijd leuk.
That's not necessarily always fun.
Tegelijkertijd superbelangrijk
At the same time super important
en ongelooflijk veel respect
and an incredible amount of respect
en bewondering voor
and admiration for
als je het hebt over
when you are talking about
het normaliseren van activisme,
normalizing activism,
het normaliseren van je uitspreken
normalizing your pronunciation
over dit soort onderwerpen.
about this kind of topics.
Iemand natuurlijk met zo'n ongelooflijk platform,
Someone obviously with such an incredible platform,
zoveel bekendheid, ook internationaal
so much recognition, even internationally
naar Game of Thrones en krijgt natuurlijk
to Game of Thrones and of course gets
ongelooflijk veel shit over
incredibly a lot of shit about
zich heen, over hoe hypocriet je bent
yourself, about how hypocritical you are
en dit en dat.
and this and that.
Als we niet kunnen veranderen als mens,
If we cannot change as humans,
dan gaat het natuurlijk niet lukken.
then it will obviously not work.
So you just need people who
op een andere manier leefden en andere
lived in a different way and other
keuzes maakten, dat die nu
made choices, that those now
van koers veranderen.
change course.
Als dat niet mag,
If that is not allowed,
hoe moeten we hier dan ooit uitkomen?
How are we ever going to get out of this?
Dat is juist wat er nodig is.
That is exactly what is needed.
And I find it very brave and very clever and very
bewonderswaardig dat zij dat zo doet.
Remarkable that she does it that way.
En het sterkt mij ook
And it strengthens me as well.
heel erg in dat je
very much in that you
ambitie mag en kan
ambition is allowed and can
hebben om zo'n onderwerp
to have on such a subject
te proberen gewoon te maken.
to try to make it simple.
For example, if I say, yes, I would really like to
ook veel meer in
also much more in
talkshows zitten
talk shows are sitting
over dit onderwerp bijvoorbeeld, of in
about this topic for example, or in
spelprogramma's, zodat er naast
game programs, so that there are in addition to
mensen die beauty-expert zijn
people who are beauty experts
of reisexpert of wetenschaps
of travel expert or scientist
of
of
history, that there is also someone who is about
One of the most important topics for now and the
toekomst veel weet en
future knows a lot and
dat dat heel normaal is. Dat er iemand
that that is very normal. That there is someone
over duurzaamheid komt praten, maar ook
talking about sustainability, but also
dat er iemand die zich daarmee bezighoudt
that there is someone who is involved with that
te gast is in wakku-wakku,
guest is in wakku-wakku,
weet ik veel, maakt niet uit.
I don't know, it doesn't matter.
Gewoon om dat onderwerp veel normaler
Just to make that topic much more normal.
te maken, daar sterken
to make, to strengthen there
dat soort mensen je natuurlijk wel in.
You naturally run into that kind of people.
Dat je dat kunt durven en doen
That you can dare to do that.
of zo. Goed, dus dat zijn de mensen
Or so. Good, so those are the people.
die me daar heel erg in sterken.
that strengthens me a lot there.
En ook dat je veel lef
And that you have a lot of courage.
kan hebben. Dat is, vind ik, echt
can have. That is, I think, really
heel bewonderswaardig.
quite admirable.
Dan nog even een hele flauwe vraag,
Then just one very silly question,
want we hebben het, zes jaar geleden
because we had it, six years ago
we are talking about showering, that it
jou maar niet lukt om
you just can't manage to
korter dan vijf minuten te douchen.
to shower for less than five minutes.
Stel me die
Oh, I would be very happy to answer that. Ask me that.
vraag of dat gelukt is. Hoe staan we ervoor?
Ask if that worked out. How are we doing?
Heel goed. Ja, vertel.
Very good. Yes, tell me.
Echt heel goed. Ik heb daar, ja,
Really very good. I have there, yes,
what kind of excuses you can come up with for that.
Nee, dat gaat
No, that's fine.
heel goed.
Very good. I really haven't done that in a long time.
Korter dan vijf minuten? Ja, zeker weten.
Shorter than five minutes? Yes, for sure.
Ja, absoluut. En hoe doe je dat?
Yes, absolutely. And how do you do that?
Door gewoon hap, hap, hap
Just bite, bite, bite.
to do your thing and to turn that thing off.
Ja, kom op. Het enige wat ik
Yes, come on. The only thing I
sometimes find it difficult, I like it cold off
te douchen. Gewoon lekker qua
to shower. Just nice in terms of
energie.
energy. And that of course makes it a bit longer.
So I'm trying to do that a bit earlier and
zo ook afzepen en zo dan bijvoorbeeld
so also to shave off and so then for example
koud te doen, want dan tel
cold to do, because then I count
ik dat er niet bij op, zeg maar.
I don't include that, let's say.
Ik weet, ik denk, als ik
I know, I think, when I
terugdenk zelf over zes jaar
think back to six years ago
Marike IJskoot,
Marike IJskoot,
dan heb ik sowieso, denk ik
Then I think I have it anyway.
wel, daar wat stappen
well, there are some steps
put in place, because I hadn't either
helemaal volledig plantaardig. Ik denk dat
completely entirely plant-based. I think that
ik daar vijf jaar geleden mee begonnen ben, bijvoorbeeld
I started that five years ago, for example.
om fulltime plantaardig te eten. Ik denk wel
to eat a fully plant-based diet. I do think so.
80, 90 percent or so, but that you just...
echt van zegt, dat
really says that
doe ik echt niet meer.
I'm really not doing that anymore.
I still really only do it at a high level now.
uitzondering
exception
bij feestdagen. Eet ik
On holidays. I eat.
nog wel eens kerstkrantjes bijvoorbeeld. Weet je, de dingen
still sometimes Christmas papers for example. You know, the things
die daar echt dan, die je zo
that one really then, that you so
bijvoorbeeld jeugdgevoel, die horen bij
for example youth feeling, which belong to
rituelen of zo. Dus ik geef mezelf
rituals or something. So I give myself
zo'n paar keer per jaar
a few times a year
om iets te eten wat
to eat something that
me bijvoorbeeld verbindt aan
for example, connects me to
jeugd of aan mijn ouders
youth or to my parents
of aan vrienden of zo. Dat vind ik
or to friends or something. I think that's
belangrijk, maar dat
important, but that
komt dus echt weinig voor.
happens very rarely.
I still can't come to grips with your mother's soot.
Oh mam, sorry.
Oh mom, sorry.
She looks really good here, but I just think that too.
echt heel vies.
really very dirty.
But she really doesn't make those herself anymore, you know.
Het is interessant om te zien dat
It is interesting to see that
bijvoorbeeld ook iemand als mijn moeder bijvoorbeeld
for example, someone like my mother for instance
echt wel heel
really very
veel vegan eet en ook
eat a lot of vegan and also
mij op de hoogte brengt bijvoorbeeld
keeps me informed, for example
from what you can buy where and sometimes with things on
komt die ik niet ken. Ook gewoon.
comes that I do not know. Just like that.
Dus shout-out naar hoezeer je
So shout-out to how much you
van
from
sudderlappen maken naar
sudden seams make to
echt op zoek gaan naar plantaardige
really looking for plant-based
alternatieven kunt gaan.
you can go alternatives.
Voor dat douche, nog even terugkomen,
For that shower, let's come back for a moment.
daar noemde je de creativiteit
there you mentioned creativity
die je dan heel graag
that you would really love
Had during the shower, so that's why a bit longer.
douchen. Maar die creativiteit is er nog steeds.
showering. But that creativity is still there.
Die ideeën onder de douche. Nou, ik hoop het. Ik bedoel, als ik terugkijk
Those ideas in the shower. Well, I hope so. I mean, when I look back
heb ik, dat is best mooi om te zien,
I have that, it's quite nice to see.
want ik heb, en dat doe ik, ik stel
because I have, and I do that, I propose
I didn't really think about that, so thank you for...
That moment when you can actually do that for a moment.
Maar als ik, ja, ik ben
But if I, yes, I am
bijvoorbeeld wel zo'n campagne
for example such a campaign
als Sustainability Can Shame begonnen.
if Sustainability Can Shame started.
Ik heb kinderboek gemaakt, ook inderdaad
I have made a children's book, indeed.
in die tussentijd. Dat is ook in de afgelopen
in the meantime. That is also in the past
six years have happened, because I received a lot of questions about it
also from parents who wanted them to
zo'n soort boek, als wat ik voor hun al had
such a kind of book, like the one I already had for them
gemaakt, ook met hun kinderen zouden
made, also with their children would
kunnen lezen.
can read.
And the podcast of course, this is a good one.
podcast voor een duurzamer leven.
podcast for a more sustainable life.
Dus ja, er gebeuren nog wel
So yes, things still happen.
dingen, zelfs al douche ik kort.
things, even if I shower briefly.
Dat was echt helemaal niet nodig, mensen.
That was really not necessary, people.
Nee.
No.
Oké.
Okay.
Dan gaan we naar de laatste vraag.
Then we go to the last question.
We hebben het in aflevering
We discussed it in the episode.
five also about your green heart, where it
where it comes from and how you as a child already
ermee bezig was. Dus ga vooral naar aflevering
was working on it. So definitely go to episode
Five listen if you are still curious about that.
How nice that was episode five too.
Ja, een van de eerste.
Yes, one of the first.
Marike, moet er nog iets van jouw
Marike, do you still have anything?
green heart, something you say to the listener
zou willen zeggen?
would like to say?
Kom mee,
Come with me,
zou ik echt zeggen.
I would really say.
En ik denk dat het
And I think that it
een fantastisch
a fantastic
avontuur is om samen te gaan.
Adventure is to go together.
En
And
ik weet zeker dat je heel veel
I am sure that you have a lot.
kunt beleven
can experience
and that you can experience a lot of new things.
En vooral
And especially
als je lekker kritisch,
if you're nicely critical,
and I also thought it was very nice to see that in the children's book
for example, to stop very much, because we are there as a child
still very good at it, to ask often
waarom? Waarom?
Why? Why?
Waarom is dit hoeven het doen?
Why is this necessary to do?
Kan het niet veel beter, leuker,
Can't it be much better, more enjoyable?
positiever, slimmer,
more positive, smarter,
samen, dat het niet ten koste
together, that it does not come at the expense
gaat van van alles? De vraag waarom
Is it about everything? The question is why.
stellen is soms misschien
to set is sometimes perhaps
very irritating for people, but that also lets
but see that there is indeed something there.
En
And
I also noticed very much that I have.
voor de podcast die ik maakte
for the podcast I made
met veel interessante,
with many interesting,
mooie mensen mogen spreken, die
beautiful people are allowed to speak, they
soms ook
sometimes also
nog helemaal niet extreem bezig waren
were not yet extremely involved at all
met duurzaam leven. Soms wel, soms niet.
with sustainable living. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
En
And
daarin, in die
therein, in that
gesprekken, heb ik zo geleerd
conversations, I have learned like this
dat het, ja, ongelooflijk
that it, yes, unbelievable
can yield a lot, already in a conversation of
ook ongeveer een uur,
also about an hour,
om eigenlijk steeds maar
to actually keep on
jezelf en anderen,
yourself and others,
but also yourself, just keep asking questions.
Het is een supersimpele manier
It's a super simple way.
om een beetje
to have a little bit
to get to the core, whether you really do or not
langer douchen nodig hebt om goede ideeën
you need to take longer showers to get good ideas
te krijgen, bijvoorbeeld.
to get, for example.
Dus ja,
So yes,
kom mee, en ook
come along, and also
nu, wel.
now, well.
Sorry, ik zou je willen zeggen,
Sorry, I would like to tell you,
you have all the time in the world, that is true
niet zo. Het is nu of nooit.
Not like that. It's now or never.
We are very close, we need everyone.
en je bent ontzettend welkom.
and you are incredibly welcome.
Mooi. Dankjewel, Marike.
Nice. Thank you, Marike.
Jij bedankt. Leuk om dit te doen.
Thank you. Nice to do this.
Ik kijk nu al uit naar de
I am already looking forward to the
komende, of zes jaar.
coming, or six years.
Of zes jaar. Tot dan.
Of six years. Until then.
Ja, tot dan. En eerder natuurlijk.
Yes, until then. And earlier of course.
En eerder.
And earlier.
