Hoe vaak krijg je wel niet het advies om, als je voor een moeilijke keuze staat, een lijstje met voor- en nadelen te maken?

How often do you get the advice that when you're faced with a difficult choice, you should make a list of pros and cons?

Het idee is dat als je eenmaal een overzicht hebt over waarom je iets wel of niet moet doen, het makkelijker is om te bepalen wat je wil.

The idea is that once you have an overview of why you should or shouldn't do something, it becomes easier to determine what you want.

Mijn ervaring is dat zulke lijstjes me juist verwarren.

My experience is that such lists actually confuse me.

Dan kan ik wel zes voordelen opzommen waarom ik ja moet zeggen op een bepaalde opdracht en maar twee nadelen.

Then I can list six advantages why I should say yes to a certain assignment and only two disadvantages.

De keuze lijkt dan dus makkelijk. Maar voor mijn gevoel wegen die nadelen toch best zwaar.

The choice seems easy then. But in my opinion, those disadvantages weigh quite heavily.

Dus wat moet ik nou doen?

So what should I do now?

Nou heeft zo'n keuze in mijn leven weinig invloed op andere mensen of op mijn omgeving.

Well, such a choice in my life has little influence on other people or my environment.

Maar wat als er beslissingen genomen moeten worden voor een hele gemeente?

But what if decisions need to be made for an entire municipality?

Want borstelen zou wel eens het hart van de energietransitie in Nederland kunnen worden.

Because brushing could very well become the heart of the energy transition in the Netherlands.

Maar wat vinden de bewoners daarvan? En hebben zij invloed op de toekomst?

In het Zeeuwse Borsele komen twee nieuwe kerncentrales te staan.

Dat was het nieuws in november 2022.

Enorm veel elektriciteitsmasten die erbij gaan komen om al die elektriciteit van die twee kerncentrales af te gaan voeren.

Het definitieve besluit over de komst van kerncentrales naar Borsele.

Wordt medio 2025 verwacht.

Maar het gaat om meer.

Extra elektriciteitsmassen om al die elektriciteit af te voeren van windmolenparken op zee.

Dus dat wordt gewoon een oerwoud.

Borsele zou zomaar eens het hart van de Nederlandse energietransitie kunnen worden.

Er is allemaal superveel zin in.

There is so much enthusiasm for it all.

Even wat praktische zaken om door te nemen met jullie.

Just a few practical matters to go over with you.

Deze 100 inwoners van het burgerberaad verdiepten zich onder begeleiding van experts maandenlang in wat er op komst is.

These 100 residents of the citizens' assembly spent months exploring what is to come, guided by experts.

En ze formuleerden 39 voorwaarden.

And they formulated 39 conditions.

Voorwaarden die hun gemeente leefbaar moeten houden.

Conditions that must keep their municipality livable.

En de gemeente gebruikt die voorwaarden als basis voor haar gesprekken met het Rijk en de provincie.

En je ziet natuurlijk al die mooie heggetjes, maar het zijn allemaal steeds kleine stukjes die je ziet.

And you can of course see all those beautiful little hedges, but they are all just small pieces that you see.

Dat vind ik zo leuk. En dan lopen er schapen, dan lopen er koeien en heel veel nieuwe mooie knotwilgen.

I find that so nice. And then there are sheep, then there are cows, and many new beautiful pollard willows.

Maar Borselen is een gemeente van contrasten.

But Borselen is a municipality of contrasts.

Behalve die eeuwenoude polders kent Borselen het sloegebied.

Besides those ancient polders, Borselen is known for its marshland area.

22 vierkante kilometer aan havens en industrieterrein voor de helft op Borselse grond.

En de energietransitie die daar in het industriegebied goed op stoom begint te komen, die staat de Borselaars sinds 2022 pijnlijk helder op het netvlies.

Hoort er nog iets bij, dat zijn die oude masten, die moeten dan nog verwijderd worden.

Dus dat zit er ook nog aan vast.

En dan is er natuurlijk ook het zicht.

Het domineert enorm.

Maar de ernstigste belemmering of bezorgdheid vind ik dan weer, er liggen nu zoveel initiatieven en plannen.

But the most serious obstacle or concern, I find, is that there are now so many initiatives and plans.

Ja, als je dat ontwikkelt of doorzet, dan is dit ook weer te krap van capaciteit.

Yes, if you develop or continue that, it will also be too tight in capacity again.

Oftewel, dan is deze nieuwe hoogspanningslijn ook alweer vol.

In other words, this new high-voltage line is already full.

En moet er opnieuw een hoogspanningsverbinding bij.

Dus, ik noem maar even tot 2030 of 2035 kun je nog royaal door.

Maar als je hier vijf kilometer verder bent, dan is die bezorgdheid al een stuk lager.

Jaap en Annemieke zien de aandacht voor de ophanden zijnde plannen wel groeien, maar slecht langzaam.

Eigenlijk hetzelfde gebeurt net zoals nu met die 83KV-lijn natuurlijk.

Alleen, voorwaarden is nogal een ingewikkeld woord in dit geval.

De honderd Borselse inwoners van het burgerberaad,

hebben zich namelijk niet gebogen over de vraag,

willen we dit allemaal wel, of wat willen we wel en wat willen we niet?

Do we really want this all, or what do we want and what do we not want?

Want die beslissing is nu eenmaal aan de Rijksoverheid.

Because that decision is ultimately up to the central government.

En een belangrijke stap daarbij is ook dat we dat gaan aanbieden aan de minister.

And an important step in that is that we are going to present it to the minister.

En het is ook goed dat de minister daar tijd voor maakt.

And it's also good that the minister takes time for that.

De voorwaarden zijn ook geen draagvlakmeting.

The conditions are also not a support measurement.

Het zijn 39 gedetailleerde antwoorden op de vraag,
