En dat zorgt er voor heel veel onvrede in verschillende andere EU-lidstaten die aan zee liggen.

And that causes a lot of dissatisfaction in several other EU member states that are located by the sea.

En vooral de Fransen waren heel luidruchtig.

And especially the French were very noisy.

Want daar waren de Franse vissers die een bijzonder bondgenootschap hadden met een milieuclub.

Because there were the French fishermen who had a remarkable alliance with an environmental group.

Die allerlei horrorbeelden ook deelden over vissen die massal...

de dood in zouden worden gejaagd door enorme elektrische schokken.

En dat verhaal ging ringen als zoete koek in het Europees parlement.

And that story went down like hot cakes in the European Parliament.

En uiteindelijk eindigde dit verhaal na tien jaar experimenteren in 2021 met een totaalverbod.

And ultimately this story ended after ten years of experimenting in 2021 with a total ban.

Maar Alexander, wat ik me afvraag.

Waarom zijn die Fransen dan niet overgestapt op pulsvisserij?

Of was het zodanig gepatenteerd dat alleen de Nederlanders dat mochten doen?

Het heeft deels ook te maken met het type vloot.

En die Nederlandse vissers zijn daardoor soms ook wat kapitaalkrachtiger om in dit soort innovaties te investeren.
