Boxcutters recommends: This is Modern Living

this will be modern living i'm josh canal if you're wondering what this is this is a test

version of the podcast i had to record something just to test the rss feed to test the recording

equipment and this is what i have if you want to know what this is modern living is going to be

it'll be a regular podcast at the moment i'm looking at every fortnight that i'm producing

by myself for the first time ever and i'm going to create an investigation of how we live in the

modern world here's a little taste of the sort of stuff i've been working on so far hopefully you'll

get a sense of what the show is going to be my name is josh i'm recording a new podcast first

episode is going to be about algorithms do you mind if i ask you a question

i feel like it's kind of a system slash pattern but i couldn't tell you much more than that i don't

think uh it's a sequence of numbers and letters that might equate to something that means something

yes it's like a formula it's like a mathematical formula an algorithm is a way of gathering

information and making sense of it in a pattern of course can the first question

i ask you be what is an algorithm that's my question to you oh okay do you know what an

algorithm is is it like a wordplay thing like a i don't know what like a pun no like a like a

different like letters make up something oh no that's an anagram that's an okay okay sorry no i

don't know what it is yeah it's um i don't know it's what is it some it's to do with binary codes

no it's not it isn't a formula a formula for a for a the fucking

yeah no it's just it's yeah it's sort of hard to explain a sequence of numbers or

yeah a sequence of numbers that predetermines something no really you know i would say that

it's a mathematical equation that has unknown

variables in it so you know x plus y equals two over z whatever yeah all right i didn't know

can i have your first names please nino jules my name is chloe ryan camp isabel roger not telling

you my last name no that's fine i'm not asking anyone no that's okay i would if i got that

question right jules why why do you know that um i i went to school unlike me i'm gonna be

speaking to people on the street i'm going to be speaking to people on the street i'm going to be

speaking to experts i'm going to be looking at the way that i think about things for myself

and hopefully you will learn something too uh maybe it'll be arrogant maybe it's just going

to be a crazy experiment that i'm not going to be able to fulfill with full-time jobs etc but i hope

not i hope it's going to be something wonderful something brand new i'm really excited about it
