Show 264 - 2014 CMA Music Festival - Sunday
CONCERT BLAST!
CONCERT BLAST!
Show 264 - 2014 CMA Music Festival - Sunday
You are listening to Concert Blast.
You're just going to meet a boyfriend down at the street fair.
And it's a French kiss, Italian ice, Spanish moss in the moonlight.
Just another American Saturday night.
Hi, and welcome to Concert Blast. This is Mike Arnold along with...
Tom Thompson. Last day of the CMA Fest.
And, man, what a great, great four days, man.
Well...
We're already getting ready. Somebody's about to take the stage.
I forgot who is going to be first.
Charlie Daniels, I think.
That's right. The Charlie Daniels band is going to be first.
Our hometown boy.
Yep. And Will Perry is actually in the middle of the photo pit right now as we speak.
And he's ready. He's got his camera ready. He's going.
He's ready every night. He's like a whirlwind coming around here.
Can't wait to get back to that photo pit every time they run you right through, man.
I think he's having fun. What do you think?
I know Will's having a good time.
Now, he might be...
He's a little tired, but that's okay. So are we.
Yeah, he's more tired than we are, though.
I know. That's what's so funny.
It is.
We were happy to be in the audience a while ago.
We ran into a couple of people from Orange County, California.
They are here at the CMA Fest because of us, because of our reviews.
To hear them say that the reason they're here is because of us is amazing.
Absolutely.
So listen to this conversation.
All right.
So Tom and I are roaming around the stadium.
We come across Section 113.
Row double E, seats 3 and 4.
We found some good seats.
We sit down.
Guess what happens?
A couple of people who has actually heard of us...
Yeah, we've only been here like five minutes.
I know.
...come runs us out of our seats.
Hello, Brian.
Hi, how are you?
Doing good. And this is Pamela.
Hi.
Hey.
Now, tell everybody about how you know about Concert Blast or about this festival.
You came across what? Our blog, right?
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
And it was really interesting.
And I told...
Did y'all hear that?
Say it again.
Interesting.
It was awesome.
And you heard us talking about the CMA Fest or something.
And we...
It's when we covered it and said, you got to get to Nashville.
Yep.
Well, and you mentioned Beale Street, too.
That was the other thing.
It was like, oh, no way.
Okay, these guys know what they're talking about.
Did you hear that, Tom?
I did hear that.
Say that one more time for me.
So, Brian, you said, okay, honey, I'll do whatever you want.
Right.
I'll do whatever you want.
I bought in.
I bought in blind.
Yep.
And what do you think so far?
Amazing.
No.
Love Nashville.
Love the music.
You guys, Mike and Tom, are great and interesting.
Interesting.
Nothing wrong with that.
Yeah.
Having a great time.
Great.
So, you love Nashville?
Love Nashville.
Okay.
You going to come back now?
Oh, my God.
Yes.
Brian, is that all right?
Yeah.
Oh, with or without me?
Either way.
You're not coming.
Without him, I'm coming back.
And what about, did we steer you wrong in Memphis
when we said go to the Memphis Beale Street Music Festival?
No.
All right.
So, you like that, too, huh?
Yeah.
Yep.
So, what shows or artists have you liked the most so far?
I'm a bit biased towards the female side.
Miranda.
Well, here, Miranda, yeah, knocked it out of the park,
and then she had to bring on Carrie Underwood.
Really?
It don't get much better than that, does it?
Yeah, but outside, Caitlin Smith was great.
Oh, I love Caitlin.
What a soulful voice.
She was cool, yeah.
Yeah, she was cool.
One of our buds, actually.
Yeah.
We got an up-and-comer.
We saw it in the listening room last night.
Brianna Tyson.
She was really good.
What's her name?
Brianna Tyson.
Yeah, yeah.
Check her out.
She's good.
Gloriana was awesome.
We got to see her.
We got to get into one of her private shows.
Was that the HGTV ball?
Yeah.
We were invited to that, but we were too charged.
Yeah.
No, they did really well.
But Luke Bryan was my favorite.
That's what I'm saying.
But Florida Georgia Line trumped them last night.
My favorite so far, Little Big Town and the Van Perry.
Yeah.
That's my two favorites.
That's a pretty good one.
It's really hard to say.
Yeah, there's...
And right when you see somebody, you see somebody else,
and you go, oh, man, I like them, too.
Yeah.
You know, so it's all the time.
Little Big Town.
I was at that photo line for you for Florida Georgia Line.
Yeah.
So I missed them.
I heard they were good.
They were good, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, it's great talking to you people.
I'm finally getting to meet somebody from California.
I know.
Exactly.
We've got that reputation.
Well, actually, there's several California people down the floor
who know about us, too.
And there's people from Australia and all over the world
who actually listen to us and read our stuff.
Awesome.
Well, good talking to you.
Y'all have a good time in Nashville.
Yeah.
Nice meeting y'all.
Absolutely.
Same here.
Was that fun or what, Tom?
That was fun.
I mean, just to be able to know that somebody wants to find out more
because they feel like we know what we're talking about.
I'll agree to that, though.
Absolutely.
Okay.
Festival people, you hear that?
We're about to get ready for the Charlie Daniels Band.
That is usually his intro music, the Tennessee Waltz.
Oh, yes, yes.
So he's coming right out.
Stay tuned.
We're going to have a good time tonight.
I love that intro music Charlie has.
Yes, he does.
Every time.
From Mount Juliet, Tennessee, the Charlie Daniels Band.
Well, it's easy for a country boy to be pushing the string
When the honky-tonks are coming in
Girl, they're looking good
Yeah, I get excited
Some people think I'm rude
It's the way my daddy read me
It's my rebel attitude
And I was rolling hard
So I'm falling away
Like I see a home Alabama
Pushing all around in my head
I'm running home
Yeah, down the Carolina
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I may have been in bed
But you don't miss a kick tonight
He was newly born
And a Spanish boy was born
And the boy's scar on his head's a mess
And he stood like a prince
And he had every sense
He had grandly walked into the night
But the girl suffered three
Tonight won't be beer
But tomorrow he must fight once more
But boy, he never gave up
He would dance with them all
Cause he was self-torturing now
When the devil met his judge and said
You know, you're a pretty good old son
Well, you flopped down in that chair
I'll show you how that's just done
I don't like my mom
You're the best
You're the perfect
I want you to love life
I want you to know
You'relord
You're the perfect person
And I'll show your daughter
You want a job
I want you to know
That I'll redress your debt
I want you to know
And I'll reward your desires
And I'll pledge on you
There's a time
That Austathelikable does not do the right thing
The Charlie Daniels Band
Any thoughts guys
He can play the fiddle
He can play the guitar too
Yes he can
He ended the set with Devil Went Down to Georgia
I wanted to hear
Sal's Gonna Do It Again
I thought he should have started with that
You read my mind I thought the same exact thing
Yeah but he didn't do it
That would have been a great way to start the whole festival
For the last night here at the CMA Fest
But he did play
One song off the new album
Which is a tribute to Bob Dylan
And guys you gotta get that album
He did Tangled Up in Blue and I love that song
Charlie Daniels is Mount Julian boy
Where we are from
And we've had him on our show
And we've reviewed his concert
So Charlie's a good old boy
You did good Charlie
Yes sir
Alright coming up next Thomas Rhett
He's a wonderful performer
Super excited to have him join us
At the second line up tonight
Last night at the CMA Fest
2014
Somebody said about Thomas
It's as if Roger Miller has been reincarnated
And gone on a songwriting retreat in the hood
So what better way to welcome
To the CMA Hood
Mr. Thomas Rhett
A strange unique
Intro music in the time for Thomas Rhett
Very strange
Very very strange
There he comes out
What's happening at the CMA Fest
Y'all feeling good?
Awesome
We wouldn't reach
We wouldn't pull
Lift on the cold
Or sing
Till my parents divorced
That's what I had me down for
Baby what can I say
I grew up in a hot lane
They say take it loud and frank
I make a lot of noise
But I'm all in the air
Middle class white boy
We got the middle class white boy
In the house tonight
Y'all sing it with me
Something like
Do what I would
Do what I would do
And it goes like
Your heart puts a rap on my arms
Baby all around you
And it goes like
Hey girl don't wait
Yeah it starts on a smile
And then it ends with all that long slow kiss
Girl, it goes right this
15, 16, 17, 18 all through college
Me and my buddies sat right up there in those nosebleeds seats
and I watched every single year
year. So for me to be on this stage playing for y'all is such a huge honor. Thanks so
much for having me tonight. This is the second song I ever put out to radio. This song's
called Beer with Jesus. And look, if you feel like taking out your lighters and your cell
phone and lighting this place on fire, it might make for a good Instagram, Twitter picture
if you know what I'm saying. So this song right here is called Beer with Jesus.
Beer with Jesus. That looks so pretty out there. Yeah.
Beer with Jesus.
How about y'all tonight? See if it makes sense.
Beer with Jesus.
Thomas Redd just came off the stage. Any thoughts?
Well, I think he's definitely one of the best newcomers out there. He's got
a lot of history.
good stage presence vocals sound good i see him growing slowly yeah i'm agreeing with tom he's
got great stage presence i was talking with tom while we were in the photo line i wish you'd move
to the sides of the stage a little more but i mean he's definitely somebody that's going to
keep your attention with him stay just in the middle pretty much but he never stopped moving
he moved i didn't notice that till you said that but he's a young guy i figured he'd be bouncing
from one end to the other especially you know with his energy and you know well he came there
sat on a stool during his hit a beer with jesus yes that's what you think about that it's very
unusual i don't know how to really take it you know you would like that it's really about the
conversation i was gonna say yeah because if you don't think you'd have a beer with jesus you
wouldn't be drinking beer anyway exactly exactly you don't need a beer you know but tom you
wouldn't have a problem having a beer with jesus if jesus said hey drink a beer with me
i
would you have to go to him and say that i hope not so it's okay for you to do it here okay we'll
take this conversation somewhere else edit that having fun here at the cma fest all kinds of
conversations who's coming up next does anybody know coming up next i believe is lady antebellum
one of our favorites they'll get this place singing they'll get this place dancing they'll
get this place rocking speaking of sunday night there is a lot of people here i was surprised
it is
almost packed yeah usually sunday night's uh kind of thinned out and when i parked my car i mean it's
so much less crowded over there and i got over here and i was like wow there's so many people
over here but two major draws tonight one lady antebellum but the second one hunter hayes hunter
hayes a big draw especially for the teenage girls yes you'll hear the squeals and the screams when
he hits the stage and like last year will and i witnessed a young teenager crying her eyes out
while he was singing the whole time the whole time the whole time the whole time the whole time the
whole time not one song the whole time and even afterward we saw her like 10 minutes afterwards
she was still crying it was hilarious actually we had some pictures of that that was funny
but anyway coming up next lady antebellum
here is the three-time cma vocal group of the year
lady antebellum
you
and
let me see some hands
here's
okay
i
don't
fast
okay
you
by
you
are
Thank you.
Sincerely honored
to be here for our third year in a row
at LP Field.
Wow.
It's just really, really, really cool
of you guys to invite us back this year.
Thank you so much.
You sound so beautiful tonight.
I love it.
And I just wanna
make you feel wanted.
You're the one
You're my love
I always wanna make you feel wanted
I don't wanna go
You might want
To be out your nap forever
But I won't let you forget it
Maybe I just wanna make you feel wanted
Maybe I wanna make you feel wanted
Yeah, I just wanna make
You feel wanted
And baby I
wanna make you feel wanted
That's what I want
Yeah, yeah
I hope for the rest of my life
That I'll always make you feel
Wanted
Cause you'll always, always be wanted
Thank you for my first ever number one. God bless you.
So as you guys may or may not know, we like to get crazy. It's our thing.
We don't see anything wrong with getting crazy because quite frankly the idea of going to a concert is to be crazy
and to not be jealous.
So I got an idea. It's just an idea, but hear me out.
This next song is brand new, so in order to sort of remain crazy,
feel free to get your cell phone down and just wave them all around and just be absolutely nuts on this one, alright?
Get the cell phone lights going or whatever you guys want to do. Let's just be absolutely nuts.
This is a brand new song. It's our brand new single. I hope you like it.
Sincerely, thank you so much for making this possible.
Here it is. The song's called Tattoo. Here we go.
Here we go.
I've been dreaming about getting to do this my entire life, especially this moment right here, you know, playing at a stadium and all.
This is kind of a massive dream come true for me.
And I grew up in love with music. I'm obsessed with music.
I've always been a bit of an outcast because I never really had a place to fit in
because I was so obsessed with music. What made me different for a long time kind of scared me.
But you guys have proven to me and now to the rest of the world the craziest dreams come true
and you've got to stick to yourself, believe in yourself.
And never change, right?
So, to you guys for making this song what you made it. You gave it meaning. You gave it a whole new life.
And man, I love you for it forever. Thank you so much for doing this.
This is to anyone who's ever felt invisible.
Here we go.
The crowded hallways.
The loneliest faces.
For our cast of revels.
Anyone who just dares to be different.
Trust the one who's been with you all this year.
I was with sticks and stones
Those words cut deep but they don't mean you're all alone
You're not invisible
Peer me out
There's so much more to life than what you're feeling now
Someday you'll look back on all these days
And all this pain is gonna be
Invisible
It doesn't make sense to anybody else
Who cares if you're all I think about
I'll search the world, I know now it ain't right
If you ain't lost your mind
I don't want easy, I want crazy
You with me, baby, let's be crazy
Unless I'm not a chicken
Or a lassen
You with me, baby, let's be crazy
If you make me a common rock
You'll end up on the road
You get up on the road
If you ain't trying to fly
You'll never know
That's right
Well, the wind blows the day you left
Out of that, out of it
Hold on to my ear, I'll just like all we did
Close your eyes, man, take a breath
Say my name and I'll be there
My love, my dear baby
Anywhere, my love, my dear baby
Anywhere, my love
Well, it was all that I could do
To keep from crying
Sometimes it seems so useless to remain
And you don't have to call me darling
Oh, you don't have to call me darling
You don't have to talk to me
You never even call me by my name
It's all the same
All you need to change
In every little thing
Seems we're wasting away
I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
And I want it
Take it all alive
I want it
Take it all alive
Sometimes I sleep
The days
The people I meet
Always go their separate ways
Sometimes you take the day
On the bottle that you drink
Time you're all alone
I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
On a one-way
Take it all alive
I'm a one-way
On a one-way
Take it all alive
When I close my eyes I see
No matter where I am
I can smell your perfume
Through these western pines
I'm with your clothes today
And it's a shame about the weather
I'm a cowboy
But I know soon we'll be together
And I can't wait till then
I can't wait till then
And you cut me down
Know the wind on a darted road
Made me think you were mine
And you changed your mind
I'm lost as a feather
And I heard you say
And I heard really it came
There's no way to measure
How far I am from okay
Okay to the dead
There's no good reason
Why we can't move on
Live a long life
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And a video of us
And a little bit of chicken pie
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And a video of us
When I see your smile
See the love in a woman's eyes
Take a touch of a precious child
Oh mother's love
No, let me pray
So my life
Soar the stars and stripes
Make freedom forever fly
And in it rain
Salute the ones we got
The ones that give their lives
So we don't have to sacrifice
All we can give up
And I got you
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And a video of us
As he took my clothes off
And all my friends
It came back and ran
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
Woo!
Thank you very much.
Appreciate some love from my band.
We're the Zac Brown Band.
We love you.
Come see us.
Thank you.
We just had a good time watching the Zac Brown Band.
It was a good surprise.
Yeah, yeah.
They brought somebody out there.
Who did they bring out there, Tom?
A little bit of Richie Sambora, baby.
Oh, yeah.
A bunch of Obie.
Woo, woo.
That was great.
That was a great surprise.
And it was a great song for them to do because it kind of matched the environment and everybody
was singing.
Yes, they were.
And dancing and having a good time.
Oh, yeah.
But I also liked how he did the David Allen Coe song.
I did, too.
I love that song.
Yeah, so that was fun.
They did a great job.
I mean, Zac has it together.
They always do, don't they?
Big old nice.
Great.
Great band, you know.
And then there's always the big song, Chicken Fried, huh?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
That, I feel like, if it's played over the weekend, is always going to be the biggest
hit.
I mean, honestly.
Everybody knows it.
Everybody sings it.
You've got to end on it, and he did.
And most people can relate to it, too, so.
All right.
Stay tuned.
Here comes Brad Paisley.
Well, we're going through the audience, and we see a couple of Concert Blast friends because
they got their Concert Blast t-shirts on.
Yeah, but they're the only.
They're the only ones in the whole crowd that have Concert Blast t-shirts on, too.
What do you want to bet?
No, I saw about 15 others.
Uh-oh.
Anyway, we're here with Vivian and Aaron.
How you doing, guys?
Great.
Hey, Mike.
Good to see you again.
You're not passing out this year, are you?
No.
Lots of water.
Lots and lots and lots of water.
That's good.
Concert Blast's number one fans.
Right here.
And I'm rocking the shirt.
Throughout the whole week, who's the one besides Blaine?
Blue.
Well, and let's see.
I like Lady A.
Is Blake still number one?
No.
Luke is for her.
No, Luke.
Yeah, you're the Luke-alicious.
Yeah.
And you're the Blake steak.
I'm Blake, man.
Blake and Miranda.
Yeah.
I like Zach Brown because they sing one of my favorite songs.
Charlie Daniels was awesome.
He should have started off with,
Sal's gonna do it again.
That would have cranked his party.
Yeah.
Yeah, but Zach done David Allen Cole tonight.
Isn't that good?
My favorite song.
He did a good job.
Yeah.
That was a wow moment.
That was great.
Great.
Good show.
That was a definite wow moment.
So, y'all going home tomorrow?
Tonight?
When?
I'm going home tomorrow.
He's going to Colorado.
I'm flying back to Colorado in the morning.
She's driving back home.
Oh, well.
Y'all had a good weekend here.
Great week.
Beautiful weather, except the last night's rain.
Beautiful weather.
Well, the first morning was rain, wasn't it?
Yeah, but not bad.
Not bad.
We had nachos and country music, so all we needed.
Oh, and we're celebrating our 40th anniversary this week.
Congratulations.
Oh, great.
You looking forward to Brad Paisley?
Oh, yeah.
No.
Show me your favorite songs by Brad.
Oh.
I like Riverbank.
My motto guitars.
Come on.
My motto guitars.
Ticks.
Yeah, it's American Saturday.
You've got to have ticks.
I like them all.
Anything that comes out of that man's mouth is good.
All right, then.
We heard that.
Hope y'all have a safe trip.
Yes.
See you in November.
When you retire.
When I retire, I'll be back.
Again.
See you guys.
Good night.
That's all.
Bye-bye.
Are you guys ready to be thoroughly entertained and close out this CNA 2014 Festival of the
Bay?
Let's welcome in, let's welcome Brad Paisley!
We'll be right back.
When I was a little boy, my favorite memories are on that body of water.
We have a new single out.
We happen to be in the perfect location.
I think this is probably the most people gathered at a riverbank in the entire world at this
very minute.
As far as for concerts go.
So let's get out.
So we're starting to get there.
Yes.
It's so exciting.
So right now, I just got a new one.
Yes.
We'll be right back.
That's all for CNA 2014 Festival of the Bay.
We're out and about.
We'll be right back.
We're out and about.
We'll be right back.
We're out and about.
I've got a perfect place in
A little nowhere
When you get there
I feel the blood all the time
That's what I'm talking about
I feel the blood all the time
I was like maybe two feet away from him
I thought he was pretty cool
He got down in the crowd better
Let me rephrase that
Far better than any of the other acts
The crowd loved him
There were girls screaming
And hollering and hooting everywhere
He was great
Hooting and hollering
I agree solely with Will
He had the most energy
He was more interactive with the crowd
People love it
I like that kind of stuff
When you get out there and say
Hey crowd here I am
And he was right in front of us
He even took some of the fans cell phones
And took selfies of himself with their phone
I saw that
Lots of them
Not like one or two
Lots of them
He was getting dangerous
Says the security guy
Of course I would say that too
The other thing was
His set list
What do you think about that
It was okay
I feel like he played a couple old songs
A couple newer songs
Which is ideally what you want
I'm always going to say
I wish he played more older stuff
The greatest hits
That's me
A little bit more
That's me
I think his stage presence
And him getting in touch with the crowd
Getting so personal with them
Like the security guy said
Almost dangerous
I think that more than covered up
Any flaws his set list could have had
He did the best balance of new
Versus cover songs
And all that by far
And also
There was one song
I wanted to mention
Play American Saturday Night
I would like to see that
He didn't do it
I think it's the first time
He didn't play it
I love that song
I think it's well written
I would have liked to see him do
One slow song
For the crowd
Because I feel like
That would be a perfect way
To end out the night
Have one slow song for the set
Something like
When I get where I'm going
This place would have roared
I think
You know
He ended with alcohol
But that was probably
The slowest song he had tonight
Yeah
It was upbeat the whole time
Which is great
I just wish he would have done that
I wish he would have thrown
One song that was slower
Probably like the second
Or third song
Okay
Top three
Tom what do you think?
Tonight?
Yes
Brad Paisley number one
Really?
Yes
Now I'm surprised
I'm surprised too
Because I was like
Yeah he's alright
It'll work
But I like stage presence
I like getting the crowd going
And surprisingly he's my number one
Number two
Three
Zach Brown
Definitely number two
And Lady Alabama
Bella
Lady Alabama
Lady Antebellum
Would be third in my list
Well I'm probably going to disagree
With you guys a little bit
Alright
Number one
Brad Paisley
I will agree with that
With Tom
Number two
Lady Antebellum
And then
Third I got a tie
With Thomas Rhett
And Hunter Hayes
Yeah
They did a really good job
Of coming out and proving
They can
You know
Throw punches with the big guys
So
Well my favorite
To me is
Lady Antebellum
And my second
Zach Brown band
It was the same people
Just a different order
You know
I'll just give a shout out
He had it too
That we didn't even mention
Well that's true
I'll just give a shout out
To the Charlie Daniels band
Because they actually
They were here
They may not be in our top three
But they were here
They did a great job
And they could have been
The top
If they had a long enough set
Right
I agree
They cut them real short
Well they had the shortest distance
To drive than anybody
Probably
That's true
That is so true
Alright
Well I guess that wraps it up
I guess that wraps up
The CMA Fest 2014
Is that it guys?
Anything else you want to talk about?
I mean we had a great time
It was a great festival
There wasn't any time
Where it was boring or slow
Every time we got out here
You know at night
It was great
The crowd was hopping
It was a great time
Lots of friends from all over
Yeah I was going to say
Just the intermixing
With the country fans
Not just at the LP Field
But also downtown
And the Riverfront Stage
And the staff of the festival
It was so nice
All that
They were great
I mean they had a tough job to do
They had to be stern at times
But they ended up being our friends
And that's what I like the best
Absolutely
Thank you CMA Fest
Yes thank you so much guys
Yeah and I want to thank
All the fans and the friends
From California
Newfoundland that we met tonight
I mean let's see
Kentucky
We had Arizona
We had Indiana
California
And I'm trying to think
