i said i kind of want to buy the concord playstation controller just because right and i

was on their website today and i'm like i really want to buy it now i think resale on that would

be huge honestly like just put it in a box and bury it in your backyard and well they took it

off steam you can't buy it anymore they deleted the website

like the hard copies of the game are probably going oh god wait hold on no leave it in there

leave it in there i want to make fun of this shit thank you for the gifted subcomic um so

yeah we're gonna talk about that because this is kind of like a huge deal this was a big flop

eight years hundred two hundred million dollars they didn't put it free to play they were racing

he writes guinness world book he needs this for like history right i have to forget a lot

of things to enjoy gaming these days so it's just it's overkill can you erase redfall from my brain

please because hey what you could still play that that's true it's not totally god jonathan

you know john and krell gave it a six and i was like i don't know if i even want to play six or

who asked me to review it and that's why i did play so we're going to talk about tonight all

three of us at a full round table give it a serious look last week was kind of just a preview

from john and krell i think this is a more of a full review john because you played more it was

i did play more yes we did kind of an impressions first yes so we're going to give the game justice

tonight matt played so it's going to be a good time we'll do that after our 10 second spotlight

right now what are you missing on it it's everything's too crowded i don't know what

to look at it's just everything's in front of me you don't need what what

minimize everything and listen to us and then also there's like there's less light now because

the top monitor is off there's less light are you starting at wallpaper right now like a

wallpaper that's all i'm doing all right let's let's do our let's do our 10 second spotlight

uh michelle i'm curious to hear what you played this week all right so i want to talk about risk

of rain 2 because a new dlc came out called seekers of the storm now risk of rain 2 is one

of my favorite co-op games ever i think it's great now the people who made the game actually

ended up selling it to gearbox and some of those guys now work at valve so gearbox this was their

first dlc okay and they fucked it up they not only fucked it up they fucked it up they fucked it up

fucked up the dlc they apparently screwed the actual game itself they somehow tied the physics

of the shooting to the frame rate or something weird and the good news is they're saying they

they hear you they're going to fix it everything's going to be fine but i'm waiting for that patch

for them to really fix all the bugs and polish it back up and then the original developers were

kind of like tweeting like oh it hurts to see our baby like this and yeah it really does because

risk of rain 2 is a huge game it's a great game it was one of the top sellers because of the dlc

last week so people were like oh it hurts to see our baby like this and yeah it really does

want this game to do well it's a loved game and so the new dlc though i think they will fix it it's

going to be fine it's going to add new chapters new characters new enemies new bosses sort of

like the last one they did survivors of the void um which was just kind of a good time too and only

one person in your party needs to have the expansion to be able to play in the maps and

stuff you won't be able to unlock the characters but it's not something everybody has to own if

you just want to see the content like the bosses or whatever so this was kind of a shame to me

i don't know wait a second but i saw a new game that was a new game that was a new game that was

a new story today about valve and these guys oh the original developers now work for valve i said

that oh okay okay they sold the game to gearbox yes so this was and they were sort of like oh it

hurts to see our baby like this and sort of concerned because it hurt the original game

too somehow something they did with an update sort of went back and damaged the way the original game

worked too and so people who didn't even buy the dlc were apparently having a problem so if you

notice now it has most recently i think mixed or poor reviews because of the new dlc and

what gearbox did with it so people are coming down hard on gearbox right now with some of the

comments randy has made about like epic in the past like steam's gonna be dead epic is the future

he's like eating his words on that and also the borderlands movie has been a bomb and now this is

happening so there's been some kind of stuff on the internet that's been sort of amusing but i

have faith that they are going to fix the game and risk of rain 2 is going to be saved so the

new dlc seekers of a storm i was pumped to play like i said one of my favorite experiences playing

co-op with my friends in this game and i was looking to jump in but i'm going to

give it some time right now but we are giving away a code in the discord for base game risk of

than john will because uh lord of the rings trilogy one of my favorite movie series ever

and are you watching the amazon show i'm not but yeah before we dive in i went through the entire

trilogy this summer with my son okay so look i know that

the amazon show is not great but there's a lot of lord of the rings stuff going on right now for me

because i am watching the show just because it's a spectacle like the the set the cgi like it's

actually really that part is really well done we'll leave the other stuff out there we all know

that the other stuff is shit okay but i ended up watching the um fan cut of the hobbit trilogy

because i had seen like bits and pieces of the three hobbit movies i didn't really love them

so the best one apparently out there is from maple studios and i ended up watching the fan cut of it

and it's about four hours long it's broken up into like two two hour chunks and i really liked it i

felt like it was a great lord of the rings movie now so i recommend that and a lot of people are

doing like lord of the rings stuff right now there's some talk of a new movie and all this

and that and actually the game that i've talked about before but kind of put away just came to

steam and xbox it's called lord of the rings return to moria so this game did come out for

epic i tried it briefly i kind of said i wanted to give it more time and so now they have released

the game with a new update they put it on steam they put it on steam and they put it on steam and

put it on xbox it has cross play so what is lord of the rings return to moria well the golden

update added a sandbox mode which is like non-linear gameplay where you can just kind of

have fun and they give you like a random seed to play where you can just explore but they kind of

went back and repolished the game and gave it like a little bit of a refresh added that cross play

added xbox and steam so it's actually in a pretty good place right now i will say there are better

survivor crafts out there but if you like lord of the rings and you want to just kind of play

through like i

actually got an appreciation for the dwarves from the hobbit cut like i never really liked dwarves

they never resonated with me but the hobbit fan cut like taught me like workers man yeah like

they're such hard workers like they're diligent they're like but like i actually started

appreciating them and so in this game you play as dwarves and you're like in the mines and you're

trying to open these doors and you're building like rebuilding your town and it kind of made

me appreciate dwarves that's something because i'm an elf person okay i love elves and and all

that shit so you know the first time i played this game i didn't have the ability to play dwarves

i had that background like lore and knowledge of dwarves like even watching like the lord of the

rings movies i didn't know like i didn't really understand why do dwarves hate the elves and what

happened in the past so like watching the hobbit fan cut like made me appreciate them and then

playing this game was actually a good time so it's only like 27 bucks um and people are liking

it on xbox and people are liking it on steam now like i said it kind of came and died on sale for

20 right now 20 oh that's not bad on okay that's good so yeah lord of the rings return to moria

it's a really good time the graphics don't work

we're kind of old well yeah i mean it was an it was a small team it was sort of like a

smaller project but it's not bad yeah so i do like lord of the rings return to moria check it out if

you are a lord of the rings fan or a survival craft fan but i feel like if you're a survival

craft fan there's better ones out there all right so outside of that i'm playing more tactical

breach wizards which i do think you would like matt more wu-kong oh wait it's my spotlight oh

you played okay good more wu-kong and i am playing more world of warcraft along with star wars outlaws

which we'll get into in a little bit but i do like lord of the rings return to moria and i'm

the round table in a little bit very curious i got a question about wu-kong now that you're

further into it so i've been following the reddit discourse and people are saying oh crap it

actually does ramp up it gets a bit harder do you find it getting harder oh yeah for sure i don't

think it's to the level of a souls like game quote unquote but it definitely gets harder you're gonna

be challenged but i don't think you're gonna want to like throw your controller against a wall

challenge like i did get to one boss with my sister that she was stuck on that i had to help

her with a few times but i kind of like i'm okay with that i don't think it's going to be

you know it doesn't i feel like we've gotten so like conditioned for everything to be super easy

that if it's like at all hard we're just like souls like well there should be easy games and

there should be hard games and what's wrong with that we don't it's super rewarding when you play

a boss 10 times and you're like oh i finally get it or you level up enough to get them the next

time so i think that's this kind of game but there's people playing who don't like very difficult

games and they're playing and it's like they're for and they're like oh this is cool like there's

a challenge here and i kind of like it so i do think it's one you should look at matt maybe when

it goes on sale or whatever and i think it's a good game and i think it's a good game and i think

you would appreciate it um and yeah so outside of that like i said tactical tactical breach

wizards wukong and warcraft and star wars outlaws and i am just drinking some okay it's called fresh

well it's fresh pomegranate mint lemonade from mendocino farms but i don't know how i feel about

it it's got too many there's too many words in it they said it's made fresh there okay so that

when you order it you have to say fresh because apparently they have a non-fresh i don't know

what that means

let me not get into that i think they have some in bottled but they also have the fresh version

it's like when you go to basket and robbins and they ask if you want a hand-packed pint

or a pint from the freezer it's like can i just say i want a pint is i have to say fresh

you know you got to do hand-packed right i agree with you hand-packed is better the ones from the

freezer are shit they're all foamy they came from the one in the freezer like yeah it's it's like

some mass-produced factory even though i'm sure the the hand tastes better it's like if you go

and get a scoop of ice cream it tastes better than the one in the freezer it's like the one in the

it's like getting beer from a keg or from a bottle it's like that okay which one am i supposed to

like more because i like hand-packed hand-packed yes the beer from a keg is better than the beer

from the bottle so this is the equivalent okay all right well all right so john i know you play

um well what else actually let's talk about a squirrel with a gun yeah oh well actually i

really want to hear about this is this the next goat simulator yep i think so

so this game is about a squirrel and you and you play a squirrel in this game

matt yeah yeah and it turns out itself and it well the squirrel there happens to be guns in

this world just everywhere in the neighborhood and he finds them and he can hold people up

and they'll drop their acorns bullets like nuts no he's collecting acorns like acorns and he's

bullets like bullets okay i don't know what that means is he putting them in his mouth or

all right all right so all right so this game is kind of like goat simulator it's nowhere near as

polished it's it's jank the graphics are like acid flips with like effects over them so everything

looks like kind of weird and like the first goat simulator basically like really yeah maybe really

lo-fi yeah but but what this game though is more of a platformer than

goat simulator and this game in my opinion has more structure than goat simulator because basically

what is your goat and and i mean i'm sorry you're a squirrel and you're like in some testing facility

somehow and there's all these uh matrix guys running around agent smith's mr smith right and

they're like the bad guys and there's a thousand of them they're all over the map they're all over

the world and you start out like in this lab and you have to escape and it's all this like crazy

i mean i actually really really like quite a bit it's challenging at times uh the squirrel actually

has some cool ways of moving about by jumping with the guns like he uses the gun to like fire down

and blast up you know and so there's different guns you have uzis and and you know pistols and

rocket launchers and shotguns and all this shit and and all these guns basically can propel you

higher if you use them the right way point them at the ground and shoot up but there's tons of

platforming it's a collect-a-thon mat there's acorns gold and silver and there's a lot of

acorns there's stuff fucking everywhere but it starts out like in this little like there's some

like weird like industrial military complex thing going on here with these agent smith guys and and

so you're fighting them but then there's people in the world so you start in this base and you

go into the overworld which is a big town and then there's boss battles that you have to complete to

unlock the next areas um i don't know matt you're gonna like it actually quite a bit and it's not

in the world though like could i

just like f around in this world basically with this guy well yeah it starts out well like gold

simulator start out with one area you got to meet the criteria of that area and then it expands and

then it expands and it expands you know so yes it's an open world and you don't have to find

everything to like get out of the area so then you want to go back and and find all the stuff

you missed because there's acorns and golden acorns fucking everywhere but they took a lot

ideas from assassin's creed where you get to the top of a pole and then you know he looks around

you can see where all the acorns are

and then they have like they have like piles of hay he can dive into from the pole and stuff

yeah i my brain is broken today like press square to uh squirrel with a gun them right

what what's wrong with you is that concord we got a whole hour left john come on

the way phil got us this game on both systems now don't what pc what don't bring phil into this

ultimate microsoft does give it to us but we get out on so i can play on pc and on the xbox and

would have cost me a hundred dollars so they do

give you like a discount to upgrade to the deck the super edition um the vault edition gives you

like some tier skips and some blueprints and stuff um so this game takes place in the 90s

and um and so like the guns are kind of like carry handle ar like 90s style like stuff and

like clinton's in the game and stuff not in the in the multiplayer but in the single player campaign

bill clinton yeah so yeah if you watch the trailer they released for the single player campaign

like on stage it's a campaign hall what okay what's so funny you're telling the truth or not

don't believe what he says bill clinton's in it um so anyway so yes the big deal here like a hot dog

yeah he's got chips so the the big deal here is that this they introduced this new movement and

it is crazy it's bonkers it really is the game is just like i can't explain it what they did

because it i mean i can't explain it but it's just it's just it's just it's just it's just it's just

i can't explain it and i will but please try yeah what is happening are you lightheaded

no nothing's wrong so okay it'd be nice if on a video game show you try to explain

all right so so the omni movement is you can dash forward you can dash forward

come on you can dash forward backwards left and right okay so you can be a lunatic running around

in all fucking directions and the other thing is that you can dive onto your back and so that you

see like your feet in front of you but you're on your back and then when you're on your back or

your stomach you basically can spin around like a turret like you have this full 360 360 degree

movement you twist your like the camera you move the camera you move the camera around so so what

people are doing is they're diving into a room they're landing on their back and then they're

just twisting around like a turret killing everyone in the room so it looks stupid actually

what does it look weird in action just yeah it does it can look really weird because um

like people are like i've been posting like memes like like me going to make a peanut

burn jelly sandwich using call of duty's new movement and they're like twisting all around

on their kitchen counter and sliding and and

spinning and stuff but but you know what okay so here's the thing though on when i played on my

xbox with the controller now i obviously prefer mouse and keyboard but when i want to play

upstairs and just chill out in the living room i use a controller with xbox the omni movement like

i wanted to do it more with the controller than i do with the mouse and keyboard with the mouse

and keyboard i'm actually never actually using it i'm just sliding instead of using that shit

because you have to like you know press the dive button

you know and then do it but i like my i'm so conditioned to slide like non-stop on the pc

that i'm not really using it at all but i see other people using it quite a bit and i don't

think it's affecting me in any way because people are just like diving into every fucking room dude

like like there's a door open dive in a window open dive in there's a there's a ledge dive over

it like everyone's just diving fucking everywhere and that's like the big change and and and and

for some reason too is that you seem to be more concealed in this game when you're laying on the

ground than in past because i've been killed by so many people who are just laying on the ground

more than usual so that's like the big change but but it's fast it's frantic right now in the beta

they have well they had four maps initially then they did two more last night so they've done six

maps total the maps i don't have a really i mean i like the high rise map probably the best but

there's no real standout here and that's

kind of the disappointment right now is the maps are i think a little weak i don't see like any

like new classics you know and everyone's saying just bring fucking nuke town just give us nuke

town blah blah blah which is my favorite map but yeah i like it quite a bit and they added another

thing that is so trolly so you can grab other players opponents from behind and use them as a

meat shield and then whisper in their ear

and

talk and talk to them yes

yeah so so so i we i play with the mics off so we use discord when we chat so i hasn't happened

to me yet no one's actually grabbed me yet um but uh we did over the weekend grab a couple guys

but we our mics are off so we couldn't like do it but yeah you sneak up behind an opponent you

grab them you use them as a shield and then you can run around with them and shoot you know the

other players and then they're shooting at you what what's so funny i'm just imagining what i do

what i whisper to this guy like i'm so sorry this will be this will be really quick i just need you

for two seconds right but there's tons of clips online of people doing this and doing crazy shit

like this one guy was like singing to the person and stuff and like it's funny it really is funny

so what do you what do you whisper to people have you done it yet i haven't i know i haven't done it

because this this just i don't play i don't play with it i don't play with an open mic so

i i haven't done it i don't think i could do this did you grab matt mccarthy

yeah well you never know it could be a love connection trying something new how is it it's

call of duty do you think this is a good addition this omni travel slash

dash feature do you think this is like it switches things it's way it's way more than

just adding a dash feature though it's like the movement is so fluid and loose it's crazy

it's not just a dash it's a whole recipe of stuff and it's really well executed honestly

so yeah i do think this is kind of a game changer and actually they they figure out a way to add

something new besides just like new maps and modes and a gun you know like they actually

really change the games you're just like conditioned call of duty right like

a lot of times when there's a new game there is something new so this is a good thing right that

they're trying and people seem to like the movement i've heard good things yeah no i think

the movement's great and you know black ops historically has been a lot faster paced anyway

than modern warfare and and so this is a nice change coming from modern warfare to go to this

whereas now it's now we're going to be you know doing the fast-paced stuff the next year

which is fine i'm really curious though to see the bigger maps uh when you know

the other modes like the war zone how they're going to implement this in the war zone and the

war mode and all that stuff because there's some modes in call of duty they're kind of like

battlefield you know not just a battle royale like the wars the war mode you know they have

vehicles and big giant maps and you can you know drive a tank or you could camp and snipe someone

from a mile away like we haven't seen any of that yet so i'm excited to see that kind of stuff more

to see how they do it and i hope they really have better maps in their

pocket uh because so far i'm not in love with the maps i don't mind them but i don't there's not

like a standout for me besides high rise probably there's a campaign map that they added last night

late last night that's like a like a town hall type thing um where like a president would have

a debate or or whatever a talk and that map's pretty decent too so yeah i'm i'm excited i can't

i think it comes back again like a couple times and then the game officially comes out in october

yeah sure well then quickly i uh well first of all i played the new harry potter quidditch game

that's available on the oh i tried that too yeah good well let's uh do a semi round table on this

because i don't know what's your familiarity with uh harry potter and quidditch or the movies well

i know it's that stupid broom sport yeah i know yeah but did you watch the movies did you read

the books yes yeah i've seen okay so not all of them going into this a good percentage of them

so you know that this sport doesn't make any sense in the movies like there's

they never explain the rules and it's right it just doesn't make any logical sense so going to

the game i'm like how are they going to make this an actual game like with points and make it a fair

game because in the movies all you got to do is catch the golden snitch and you win the game like

it's all driven by magic right so like how is the thing controlling itself and is it always fair

yeah yeah and like kids are falling from their brooms and getting killed so i don't know like

it just it is right it's such a really dangerous sport for kids to play but so i was interested to

and uh so i don't know john where you want to start but i was it's a step up from like a cheap

flash game i was expecting like cutout scenes with just like harry potter illustrations but

that's funny you said that so like the the initial tutorial before they started adding the depth to

it like with the goalie and the the bad guy whatever like i thought it was just gonna be

a 3v3 thing and i'm like this is absolute garbage but then when they started introducing the roles

i was like okay i could see

so i got overwhelmed so in this game there's yeah like john said there's five different roles you

can be the chaser the one who tries to score goals the goalkeeper the bludger which is basically just

like uh the bludgers that's what i like that's the guy that can force her basically yeah he just

goes around like fucking people up like yeah that's the guy who whispers in your ear before

he bangs you that's him you're never gonna make it out potter and then there's like the uh snatcher

what i don't know what's called the snatcher but the guy who goes for the golden snatch

snitch golden snatch uh the guy who tries to fly for the golden snitch when it's released on the

field so gameplay in the tutorial is really overwhelming because you eventually have to

play all five roles simultaneously and i hated it at first and i don't know how you felt like

just do you did you get into the deeper into the roles john did you finish the tutorial

i i think i finished it i did play a match online i was skipping through all of it yeah yeah i played

a match online and i was i was the enforcer guy and i actually really liked it and i was like oh

enjoyed that part yeah but i wouldn't play this game again like i don't know you would you would

really i it's kind of got its hooks into me i do i i hate the monetization thing they're doing like

the season pass and all that bullshit yeah but the core game is actually kind of fun like they

somehow made it they somehow did it they somehow realized quidditch i thought i did think that too

i i really did think that too because i'm like okay well if i were to play this again

i and i figured out that i like this role and i kind of had fun playing this role because i was

the guy that was going around hitting that ball and everybody yeah can you group with friends and

go against other teams like can you actually pair up yeah i don't know i mean that could be fun then

if you had there's five people a team um yeah yeah you can't because the lobby it says invite

friends yes you can yeah and you get to pick between so you pick two roles that you're going

to play during the game so i'm going to be the keeper and the seeker which i just found out is

and but you said that you can switch back and forth between those but you trust other players

or bots who fill in for blank roles because not every you're not always going to find a keeper

who wants to play a game so a bottle will fill in and i think you can switch to him some games like

yeah you you pick two roles and you can only play one of the roles at a time

and then the the ai is playing the other role that you didn't choose at that moment but you

can switch on the fly from role to role yeah they're 10 minute games or the first person to 100

i found myself having fun like once you're gelling with your team and you're making passes

and you're getting the hang of switching between the roles it's a fast-paced game and

the the i always love flying like remember harry potter the video game i love just flying on the

broom and you get that sense in this game plus game then because people are like unsure if they

want to buy it but it's free if you have that so but you can buy it they they have some deluxe

edition for like 15 in there and there is some like skill tree thing in there too matt and you

yeah and they have it has the brooms have stats and shit and i know i just that's i don't want to

i just this is a game i just want to put in and just play 10 minutes of i don't want to have to

worry about upgrading each my positions and stuff and that's that's what they want you to do to buy

all the extra currency to upgrade your people or just play i mean i like meta progression in games

personally i think it's some depth i i don't mind that like i would like that but it's probably not

a huge gap maybe it's a lot of cosmetic upgrades to your broom and stuff or if you can get faster

but don't you want something to work i will be playing more okay yeah so i'll see how fast it

goes i've already unlocked a ton of different like gloves that i don't i can't even see on my person

so i don't care about those but there are stat upgrades for your brooms and you can unlock

different skills for your people too it's better than i thought it would be like i'm gonna play

this again it's definitely i thought it was gonna be like oh here we go another cheap cash in but

they put some thought into it it's cool no i i agree with what you're saying about it being more

than you thought was possible for that sport because they don't yeah it doesn't make any sense

they've been for a while i was invited to the test but i didn't do it because they had an nda

and all this shit to sign i was like i don't even want to try this then if i can't talk about it

but they've been like working on it with a lot of like player tests for a while it seems like

everybody i talked to that's tried it was like it was better than i thought so i mean is that

that's a good are those roles are those roles all accurate to the movie yeah i think like like the

he's like yeah he's the youngest seeker in the history of hogwarts yeah i remember that but but

people and then right the seekers were like kind of like the betas that just like send them off

flying like they're not good at physical confrontation but they can

search out like a golden snitch really good so you send them to do that and that was harry potter

wizards and i really like it it's a it's a cool breezy game and i did that on michelle's

recommendation i think another a few other people in chat said as well yeah people say

if you like xcom you should at least look at it and i know you were big on xcom huge on xcom and

this reminds me of that xcom spinoff they had with the squad and i can't place it at this moment

um it is it's it's really cool it's a puzzle right this is a puzzle game where you have to

take yeah and i like the ability to predict what's going to happen so you can see and um

and i just like the the drive to be as efficient as possible when you enter that room and then

when you play the scene out you're like ah this went really exactly i was saying like i usually

hate rewind mechanics but i like how they did it in this game like you feel in the flow of like

work as of today for me and i haven't researched this yet and the people that lost their save games

i heard it was a problem on console only john which is why maybe it didn't happen to you and

playstation people who who did the early access or whatever and paid for the big premium pack

lost their saves and to restart and just so you know i never got to play this on pc because i

can't get the cloud saved to go up okay nice service why okay i don't know i don't know i don't know

i didn't ever get it to work on xbox yeah i just but man the whole secret to the whole thing is

first and like how do you want to do this sure impressions go matt

initial impression out of the gate super super invested i thought that first world that you land

on is incredibly detailed um however and okay i'll clear up the mystery right now okay first

impressions in the first four hours like oof these graphics are really straining under the

police playstation right now like i'm getting some poppins there's some j a lot of jaggies

yeah um and i'll just fast forward five hours in

i took a look at the graphics and i'm like oh my god i'm gonna be like oh my god i'm gonna be like oh my god i'm gonna be like oh my god i'm gonna be like oh my god i'm gonna be like oh my god

i took a look out into the vista i'm like i know this is a beautiful vista but it's just there's

something wrong with it and i just got fed up i went online i got caught up in the negativity

and i returned my copy because i'm like i just i'm gonna wait no no no i'm gonna i'm gonna wait

i'm gonna wait because i feel like this is gonna be a fantastic game but it's just undercooked

okay one day later i'm like ah but i was having such a fun time and i rebought it initially

that's the thing i wanted okay okay all right okay good okay it happens um it's not just the

graphically even on pc like there it's very hit or miss matt there's gonna be like some things like

the reflections of the metal might look really good and then other times there's jaggies even

on high and max and i have a 4090 and i mean the ultra wide support was nice and there are certain

views and vistas that look great but i had i don't know john if maybe you had oh you didn't

play on pc yet but yeah there's still parts that just don't look great it's fuzzy and that spot

i would say fuzzy is the right word because like i could tell that they really are trying to

do like especially in the first hub city yeah like they're morgana you could just tell like

they want this to be like badass cyberpunk world you know like so packed it's so detailed it's so

detailed yes there's so many stores and shops and arcade games and things to do and people to talk

to it's like it's just jam-packed with detail but it doesn't look good it doesn't have that wealth

because like when i first played cyberpunk it had the wow factor that i think they wanted in this

but it is without a doubt a giant ambitious game but maybe too ambitious for no there's this system

the console no it's not because i'm on pc playing and and it just doesn't look that good i think you

guys are right to say it's kind of fuzzy and things are popping it does and that's why i

returned it initially but i yeah that's why i feel like i feel like we're like three and this

shouldn't be the case but i feel we're three patches away from like yeah the performance

matching the design because like john said that first hub world and i don't know if you're going

you're talking about like the initial like tutorial level or the first planet you drop on

the first place or just well yeah yeah the where you sneak into the base and you the first place

you go with your speeder bike that that place right yeah so i thought that was amazing that

world but then i went outside and got on my speeder bike i'm like oh this is this world's

having trouble keeping up like it's you can tell but i played and there's i shouldn't have to do

this either but i went online like what are the optimal settings for ps5 turn down all the motion

blur turn off this option and i've got it to a place where

either i'm i'm being a little less judgy and i'm a little less okay i'll accept it for what it is

and it's a little bit better it's not the best it could be and after playing horizon forbidden west

like i know what playstation 5 can do exactly that's the problem like for people who are casual

and don't play other things they might not notice this stuff and might think it's acceptable but me

coming off like seeing how good like other games look and how well they run and what they were able

to pull off or even older games like i'm saying like so gyro saying too ambitious for ubisoft

despite having all the mechanics having been brought from other games yeah like

you we know what the ps5 can do i know what my 4090 can do something went wrong somewhere with

development with the engineers with the engine with this world where it's just a little undercooked

and so my first impression was kind of like like okay it doesn't this isn't i'm not getting that

cyberpunk experience which is what john is bringing up because i'm kind of comparing it to that

because to me it's like open world rpg whatever and i'm thinking that game did it better many

years ago so but one thing that i immediately noticed was the great sound the music and the

soundtrack there's always something going there's always music going there's always an

ambiance there's always like like whoever did the sound design of course they have a great

you know bed to work on here with star wars yeah but it really it's all authentic yeah you notice

it in the game and it's just like in a good way and it's sort of like that's kind of initially

hit me like this is probably the best part of this game whoever did the sound design whoever did

like whoever figured out like this music everything feels alive a lot of that is because i feel like

like the thing that impressed me at first with the game yeah what are you john were you wowed at

first or not loud no i mean like i said i i could tell that there's a lot of stuff in this game

but it just looked fuzzy like that was it's the only thing i could say is like it just

it wasn't crisp the npcs look worse than the main character as well they almost look like

they're stone-faced mask people like the animation like her hair is like

like not good yeah it's not working well with the environment it's no right it's moving in one

thing and so there's definitely some problems she's like a playmobil character her hair like

that fucking plastic hair yep like that's the thing like i feel like john like last week you

gave it a six and so did krell i said six or six or seven okay whatever i'm just gonna say six okay

so here's where i'm at with the game okay before i let you guys go off because i've only played

four hours i'm sure you guys have played more so to me like if you stripped away the star warsness

i'm talking the music the setting the what our love for star wars if you strip that away

and you look at the actual technical aspects of the gameplay i think the gameplay is weak rehashed

sort of ubisoft open world shit i think it's weak ai weak graphics weak animations weak writing weak

story and it's only been four hours the story so make it better um i feel like if you strip away

the star warsness of this under that six becomes a four and that's where i'm at with it i don't

think it's a great game i think that people well to me if you take the star wars out i can see the

and i get it but i feel like the only thing propelling this into a mid-tier game

is the star warsness i just think it's repetitive already and do i keep pushing does it get better

does it open up or from what i'm hearing from people they're saying it actually gets more and

more repetitive the more you play the more taxing it feels like technically i think the game feels

weak it feels like ubisoft old shit like a game from 10 15 years ago and i like i said in my head

i'm like why don't i just replay cyberpunk from the beginning with phantom liberty with all the

mods on and like that's probably

so i'm thinking like what is going to keep me playing this game if i'm not a huge star wars

fan okay sell me on it so let me okay let me say this a little bit because this i was i was there

like four or five hours and that's why i gave my copy back but there was i was getting to a point

where there was a hook where all of a sudden the world opened up i was doing missions for all three

of the major factions yes and there was this really compelling interplay between them where

like you would do a mission but it would go sideways and you could decide to backstab one

frame another faction so it starts you start getting really invested in the head that's where

i am right now where where i can backstab the other factions i heard it only moves the bar

up and down it doesn't change the story at all so while it may impact quests you get your story

is the same it does it gives you does affect it in the way that you can't access certain areas

anymore yeah i was gonna say it gives you options to interact with their little base or town or

whatever because you're part of them now and they'll be hostile to you if you're in poor

it does change the gameplay because like previously you could be able to go a certain

place now you've made enemies with there and it doesn't change the story there's no alternate

endings with them or anything like that i think they could have done a little more with the faction

system because i was getting to like the crimson dawn or what do they call people i was like oh

maybe i could this seems cool and i'm like maybe there's a certain but i it's from what i know of

like well there's there's rewards right if you go uh either end of the spectrum and i don't know

yet if it affects the end game we don't we don't really know but i i want to tell you on this game

because i think when i got back into it

and what i loved is that once you get into the story there are some characters you're gonna like

at least i did but it's also a far cry ish game where you can point your speeder in any direction

and there's a compelling quest out there and you can just stumble upon like two three hour

experiences in some incredible set pieces and abandoned factories huge open like outlaw depots

underground caverns and that you never would have come across if you didn't explore and it's all

optional stuff too like it's all optional stuff and the the heights they reach with some of these

just like really random just side quests i think it's really interesting it really promotes you

just making the most of this world and that's what's hooking me just the right because like

races yeah i did one thing like i was just i had to i was doing a main story quest i had to go to

some other town and and also they come across like this like gas station or like type place

and i stop in there and i go inside there's actually people in there and then i could and

i continued admittedly to theanny i'm like and try you did you ever see principal before

um my mind changed like i had a moment in the game like i had a moment of tršešany

of me wanted to stop over and think uh i had to go there yeah it just doesn't work

still you've got to go hanging out with yourself yeah it's sad to me you're putting yourself under

the residenceіз i was goingPadman and adding maybe a class of three kids to this i think

there is fine one but i it was the that i just i was i started thinking about it i was thinking

about it and i just mean i i mean i was going to just i was like so i wanted to be a part of

it and i thought okay and at some point i didn't but i kind of thought about it and

then i thought and it was cool i i mean i know i'm not so cookie hot but it's true to

waterfall i don't think he's verbatim accounting the actual no i like that you can upgrade your

speeder i like the mini card game i ran into the insta fail stealth missions i don't like

that card game fuck that card game so yeah i got it finally it you okay i played it the first time

and i don't i won and i don't even know how i fucking won so same here it's like i take my

credits i'm like yeah i have no idea what i did to get these but you but it's based on an actual

like they made up this game there's two card decks and you're trying to get a pair of opposite

instructions aren't great for that but that's the thing right like that i'll set up for one

mission but end up doing card games player playing arcade games treasure hunts speeder chases or like

multi-thread intel and one counterpoint i'll make is i don't feel the old ubisoft formula in here

there's no towers oh it's all there dude i think it's there it's like you're talking about just

open world because they took the hay

what's uniquely ubisoft about this game well it's the typical faction thing which i i hate

that's every developer though that's every i know but it's like it's they started with like

with far cry and shit like i just i'm sick of that shit like ghost recon wildlands had it

right yeah the stealth is i don't like the stealth i said this last week yes yeah like

it's a bit from every whistling i mean i'm in tall grass whistling you have to just accept that

open world games come with

certain conceit just like saying oh i bought a fighting game oh it's got a character selection

screen oh this is so uh mortal komb this is they're doing this i feel like i feel like

ubisoft is guilty of doing this over and over and over again though especially the last 10 years

like but why give a pass to other genres that completely borrow the exact same mechanics all

over and over like developers i just found it boring and repetitive i mean i'm not trying to

give it a pass or not give it a pass it's like there was things i liked like i did like out

there exploring in the open world upgrading a speeder and all that but i don't like

hiding in a bush and then there's ai spinning around in circles and like they don't see me and

i get wonky it feels dumb it just it takes me out of it and so i think technically the game is bad

but the set pieces of star wars are good i felt my main character was wooden i didn't connect with

her look for this is a personal thing i would have loved to create my own character maybe not

been a broke person with a chest tattoo lives in an attic you know i i just kind of like i'm in

star wars i know i'm just saying let me create a character like maybe pick a background even if it

doesn't impact the game that much once again though right like cyberpunk

that's yeah but think of cyberpunk though like we got to pick like our start like our background it

didn't change the whole game but there were certain points where you felt like it was

they could have really done something cool with your background in star wars but they're telling

her story i get it i'm saying that's like a pet peeve where i'm okay with that as long as the

character is right but i don't think you could knock a game for not taking a direction i can if

i don't like the character they took it because i don't i don't like the character i don't think

the character is is likable i think it's like a a bad version of han solo though

without a doubt i don't i'd rather than let me play as han solo don't play as like knock off

team you han han solo with a vagina you know like i don't feel like the character i don't know i find

her she looks like some weird puppet that some guy made in a in a toy well looks aside first

talking about in gaming at all it's just john said it actually ruined it took him out of the

the game that i bought and then you go and then there's a huge hangar where you're just and again

looks movie authentic in this so maybe for star wars fans like they really did the research i

think like i think they put a lot of effort into recreating a lot of star wars if you want to have

fun in the star wars world and not look at the technical the gameplay like you said matt if you

look a little fuzzy the ai is going to be bad there's some dumb stuff some bad it's not a

perfect game but but if you can want to have fun in a star wars world the set pieces they had to

work with the music and some of the scenery the creation of the cities and the ship and the

one time i was talking to a vendor and the transactions could place and then the imperials

came in and there's a whole little scene that played out where they were trying to uh bribe

or extort the vendor i had to step in so there's little moments like that too you're like this is

cool they like they really surprise you at some point and i don't know i keep getting drawn back

and i know it's the open world star wars game like i get like i get it you know like i get it

i'm just saying like for me i kind of feel like maybe it would have been better with another six

months of polish and work and fixing it's gonna be better six months from now for sure that kind

of bother me personally as somebody who kind of is a bit no they announced today they're they're

actually deleting the website and their game's going away i don't think it yeah i i think people

i think if you go on looking and not saying this is you michelle i think there's a lot of like

grifters out there do that if you go and looking for stuff to be like hey look this game sucks

you can find it but if you go in saying i'm gonna have fun anyways you will have a ton of fun with

this game if you just kind of let that stuff i want like it i wanted this to feel like a triple a

or sorry quadruple a polished 70 star wars open world game and i don't feel it delivered there

now it delivered for me on my 18 month sub trial you know so i'm not bitter about it but i just

feel like they could have done better there could there could be more this could have been a great

like god of war style like epic this is badass everybody's got to play it and you know the

the reviews are reflecting that this is not just a michelle thing euro gamer gave it a two or five a

lot of people giving it six to sevens people are kind of saying it's like mid-tier here

it's like five points away from wukong if you're gonna go by reviews so i mean wukong people didn't

like it because they said the developers developers were sexist if you look at user reviews it doesn't

go there you can't trust journalists right they have their own bias and bullshit user reviews are

also you know there's a whole bunch of people who wanted to hate this game from when it started so

you got to take that into account i don't know why they would want to hate it

everybody loves star wars until recently everyone was on the ubi slop star wars yeah because it is

though i mean but i'm seeing this from like actual sites that are usually like

spitting out bullshit i mean the only reason by the way matt the metacritic review is all right

is because ign was able to review this game 10 times with ign spain ign italy ign france ign

whatever if you took those out it's actually very very low that was the only thing keeping this game

in the mid-range if you actually look into it so just you can see a lot of really good that's just

data in fact like overall the reviews are not great for this like they're kind of mid-tier saying

you know uh i saw star wars a new nope instead of a new hope from ag guys he's pretty fair people

are kind of saying like there's a lot of misses here that doesn't mean you don't play it or that

it's you know it's a shit game that you pass it's a solid for me like honestly it's it's i'm really

enjoying myself um i've and look if you go on reddit but remember you return this after four

hours so you did have a bit of a change yourself too so that's the you can kind of get why people

may not love it right because initially but that's what i'm saying

if you can if you can stomach that like if you can stomach that this is not the triple a game

this is a double a and a half but why are we accepting less than great this is not the triple

a game we deserve and paid for but you know what fuck it it's star wars i like the music and the

horns you know there's tons of games where you accept the jank to have fun we talked about tons

of games on this podcast really i know it's not from like pub g like 15 years ago when it was a

solo developer but like why are we accepting the ubisoft jank with star wars one of the best

ips in the world that's the thing this isn't a broken game by any stretch of the imagination

this i think the ai is broken at times like i've run into a few situations where it was kind of

laughable and painful stealthing i was like don't even put the stealth in if you can't pull it off

you know because they're just like where are you where is it it's like i've seen this like i don't

know stealth is i mean i'm with you on that and that was my biggest complaint was the stone that's

how i'm judging it i hate the stealth i want them to take it to a seven then for your review this

week no i think six or seven is still my that doesn't make any sense you can't say that so

a six or seven but but okay i'm going to give it i'm going to give it a five because of the star

wars news i'm very happy that i did rent it and i'm going to play more i think i am going to play

more because i doubt it no because i'm at you said you loved it but i'm at a spot right now

in the game that i want to finish like like i want to see it through you know i'm on some

quest right on the middle sure yeah i mean look i love open world questing games it's just a lot

of them seem like repetitive shit and i feel like this is what this is

for me well that's what i'm worried about is that i don't know i don't feel repetitive like

they i think i gotta stand up for because having played it for i played it all day today i have

yet to do a mission where i felt oh i'm doing this again it is either like epic platforming

sections like uncharted stealth full-out action full-out just random rate i have yet to be like

oh they're relying on this mission type again i honest to god and that might change i'll tell

you in a couple weeks but i don't see that installed it he reviewed it last week and i

gave it a six he said it was pretty good now he's uninstalled it this week he said like so like

you're gonna get a mixed bag of people here with this game but i think overall i just can't be as

enthusiastic as you are with it matt with an a or even you john i just feel like it's i think it's

it's just another kind of average ubisoft game yeah and star wars yeah but the star wars upset

though i feel like star wars like the star warsness like because people were making fun of

it and it doesn't feel star wars isn't star wars no i think it does feel star wars i think it's

we have to keep them updating it we're basically we can't and we've only made stars film stars is

still going they made one million dollars total supposedly there's no profit there okay one

million dollars in revenue came in the door and 199 went out the back door yeah so okay so they're

about it i feel like it's such an investment they're not just going to give up on it not now

it can't there's no way it can come back now no the announcement would have been it's free to play
