Blighty 13 - Resend
Hello again, you will of course have noticed, I hope anyway, a long gap in editions of I
Miss Blighty, and I have to tell you now a big explanation is on the way, during what
will be, certainly for the immediate future, the last edition of this podcast. An explanation
will follow in just a moment. So I think it's some four weeks since we last had the opportunity
to chat and whatever. I don't particularly want to make this a normal edition or a long
edition. I do, however, owe you an explanation and a big thanks to the
many, many Blighty addicts who've emailed and got in touch with us saying, what is going
on with the show? In a nutshell, my job, as you know, is as a broadcaster outside of this,
which is my hobby. I was fairly astounded about four or five weeks ago to discover that
one of my colleagues had sort of tipped me off, if you like, that there were
grumblings within the broadcasting organisation for whom I work, that this was not the kind of
thing that I should be doing, and that there may be conflicts of interest between doing this
and doing my professional job. I'm being rather careful in the way I phrase this and in what I'm
saying, actually, because I have no doubt whatsoever now that what I am saying to you now is actually
something that could be listened to by the people who pay my living wage. So to cut a very long story
short, despite a quite long behind the scenes protracted negotiations and whatever, it has been
decided that should I wish to continue my employment, that I cease this podcast. So I have
truly, truly enjoyed doing this. I have actually, without wishing to sound a hero,
invested quite a lot of, a reasonable amount of money and certainly a lot of time into Blighty.
I have enjoyed absolutely every minute. I think we've done some fun things. I think we've done some
quite adventurous things. I've immensely enjoyed bringing you flavours of things like the best pub
in the south of England, as far as I remember, towns in the south of England. We've cooked
curries. We've done all kinds of things, haven't we? And I think it's been a very, very, very
We've talked to you from across the other side of the world, and I've genuinely loved every minute
of it. I don't see why I should hold back and say that I'm really sickened by attitudes of certain
people to whom I owe an allegiance. And I think it's probably fair to say that their attitude
sums up a paranoia fairly rampant through the radio industry as regards podcasting and podcasters.
Broadcasters who really should know better, clearly in some cases, neither really understand
nor wish to understand the wishes and aspirations of the podcasting community. And without getting
too bitter, and I don't wish to do that, because, you know, I feel that's an insult to you, really.
I was astounded when my inquiries as to whether, you know, I could continue, basically felt I was
on pretty safe ground, that this wouldn't be a problem.
Just making trouble for me when my inquiries led me in the other direction, and I was to
pretty much to cease doing this. I rather wonder, actually, if I'd not actually made inquiries at all
and just carried on, you know, what would have happened. But it's a little bit late for that now.
So I kind of make apologies, really, for the ignorance and lack of understanding of some
people. But I do have
a wife to support and a house to live in and a mortgage to pay. I would use the cliche,
stay subscribed, because maybe at some time in the future, I can unravel all this and we can get
back to being friends across the podosphere, from the UK, here in Aylesbury, to wherever you are
listening around the world. But for the moment, that doesn't seem possible. So I just sincerely,
genuinely,
thank you for your time. Thank you for listening. You've been brilliant people. I've really enjoyed
corresponding with you. I hope we've managed to bring you a flavour of Blighty. Put it on hold,
put it on the back burner. Don't unsubscribe. I don't know when I'll be able to talk to you again.
But if it's not cluttering up your machine too much, keep a little space on there for I Miss
Blighty. I sincerely, genuinely hope we can come back at some time in the future. And so as you
know, we've played you an awful lot of tracks on the podcast. And I hope you've enjoyed it. And I
hope you've enjoyed it. And I hope you've enjoyed it. And I hope you've enjoyed it. And there was one
really that stuck out when I came to look at what we'd end up with. I really genuinely cannot think
of more appropriate words really, than sung here by Eva Cassidy. This is called Say Goodbye. Let's
say au revoir, rather than goodbye. I leave you with Eva Cassidy, thoughts from all of us here in
the UK, from I Miss Blighty. A huge thanks to you for listening. And I hope you've enjoyed it. And I
hope to talk to you sometime in the future. Here's Eva Cassidy.
Tell you why, why I left you and said goodbye. Must be the mood I'm in. I'm thinking of you again. I call you up just to tell you why, why I left you and said goodbye.
Goodbye. I know you're different now. And I guess I changed too. And I thought what once was right was so wrong for you. Yesterday I was talking and I heard your name. The weather's fine here with a slight chance of rain. So I call you up just to tell you why, why I left you and said goodbye.
Tell you why, why I left you and said goodbye. Must be the mood I'm in. I'm thinking of you again. I call you up just to tell you why, why I left you and said goodbye.
And goodbye
Time makes you sorry
For the things that you've done
Sometimes you walk away
And sometimes you run
And the weather's fine here
I can feel a slight chill
Some things change, baby
And some never will
So I called you
Just to tell you why
Why I left you
And said goodbye
Ooh, must be the mood I'm in
I'm thinking of you
Walking, I called you up
Just to tell you why
Why I left you
And said goodbye
I called you up
Just to tell you why
To tell you why
To say I love you
And to say goodbye
