General Show
It's the Renaissance Festival Podcast!
Out in the wood there's a band of small fairies
If you walk unwary at night
They're laughing and drinking and soon you'll be thinking
That you'd come to join in their light
If they say,
See you, you know they'd entreat you to come
And join in their small friendly dance
If you do then your soul will go too
You'll lose it with no second chance
But please come, join, dance in the circle
The voices will make your heart yearn
So please come, join, dance in the circle
And know that you will never return
They'll promise you gold and silver aplenty
You'll never be empty of love
Beauty and pleasure and time at your leisure
All things that you've been dreaming of
Success will be yours through several doors
Whatever you wish you will find you can do
Beware of the world, beware of the world
Beware of this prize as a curse in disguise
Since your mortal life soon will be through
But please come, join, dance in the circle
The voices will make your heart yearn
So please come, join, dance in the circle
And know that you will never return
There is a way, some fool would say
To save you to the dark
And denounce their kind from your mind
Then you'll find they are gone
Children's tales, pirates' tales
Unicorns, dragons, sorcerers too
They're unconceived
Make believe you know that they are true
And now I must tell the time under their spell
Though I know not for how long
I've been
And I'll have a last
Though I know I can't pass back
To mortal lands ever again
I went to the king in his wise fairy ring
I asked him, what do you think I should do?
He said, you'll be fine
Took a large swivel while and said
Wait, don't you have her join you
So please come, join, dance in my circle
The voices will make you feel
So please come join dance in this circle
That know that you'll never return
Oh please come join dance in this circle
The voices will make you feel
So please come join dance in the circle
The voices will make you feel
Oh please come join dance in the circle
The voices will make your heart yearGo
And don't you go and beg to stay
Thecomham beestablished
So please come join dance in the circle
And know that you'll never return
I hear you悼
Just hereрок
How did I love you so much?
Wait for what you made me forget
悼
Oh, the summertime is coming
And the trees are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain tine
Grooves around the blooming heather
Will you go, Lafayette, go
And we'll all go together
Tip the wild mountain tine
Out around the blooming heather
Will you go, Lafayette, go
Oh, Lafayette, go
A flower by yon pure and crystal fountain
And upon it I will shower
All the flowers of the mountain
Will you go, Lafayette, go
And we'll all go together
All the flowers of the mountain tine
Out around the blooming heather
Will you go, Lafayette, go
And we'll all go together
Deep and subtly
And return with their smiles
To the power of my dearie
Will you go, Lafayette, go
And we'll all go together
Tip the wild mountain tine
Grooves around the blooming heather
Will you go, Lafayette, go
And we'll all go together
Tip the wild mountain tine
Grooves around the blooming heather
Will you go, Lafayette, go
Tip the wild mountain tine
Grooves around the blooming heather
Woor's you go, Lafayette, go
Tip the wild mountain tine
Or yes, we both will sing
Did you make the home
To your darling little love
Loving like aTake
And also listen, changing it
Just for you
Till that day
When we're here now

Whiskey, you're the devil
You're leading me astray
Over hills and mountains
And take one more sip
Mary Kay
You're sweeter, stronger
Dazer, you're spunkier than tea
Whiskey, I'm an arlin' drunker
So, there, ciao
Now, brave boys are marching
Off to Portugal and Spain
Better to wave and drum to me
If I read home will come tonight
So, fare thee well
Like a teedle-a-dee-da-da-da-da-day
Like a teedle-a-dee-da-da-da-da-da-day
I'm read from a derelady
Oh, there's whiskey in my jar
Whiskey, you're the devil
You're leading me astray
Over hills and mountains
And take one more sip
You're sweeter, stronger
Dazer, you're spunkier than tea
Whiskey, I'm an arlin' drunker

Our last dance
Let's dance
When the music comes on
Let's dance
Black stupid

We're full of daddy-o, we're full of daddy-o, there's whiskey in the jar, hey!
Now, mother says to me, don't take my daughter from me, cause if you do, I will torment you, and after death, my ghost will hunt you low, very well.
I can feel it, I can feel it, I can feel it, right from my tearing lovey-o, there's whiskey in my jar.
Whiskey, you're the devil, you're leading me astray, over hills and mountains into America.
You're sweeter, stronger, dazer, spunkier than tip, whiskey, you're a mineral and drunker, so vile.
We'll be right back.
Bye-bye.
That's T-H-E-C-R-A-I-C-S-H-O-W dot com.
And before that, we heard All For Me Grog, performed by the Terrible Musicians, from their album No Royalty, Songs of Pirates, Paupers, and Vagrants.
You can find out more about them on their Facebook page.
Just search for Terrible Musicians.
Here at the Renaissance Festival Music Podcast, we're always looking for people who might be interested in helping out with producing the show.
This can range from little things like helping to update our music library,
and make sure that the songs we have in there are recorded correctly.
Checking to make sure we have the proper permissions for playing the songs.
You can help out with editing the shows, particularly editing the host portions, like what I'm doing right now.
And we can use some help with publicity, help with running the social media pages for the podcast, anything like that.
And if you're interested in helping out, please get in touch with us at RenFestPodcast at gmail.com.
Or you can contact us through our Facebook page.
Up next, we'll have Road to Kalasvartown, performed by Rowan, from the album Tales Through Time.
And following that, we'll hear Irish Rover, performed by Pride of Ireland, from the album Here's to Dear Old Aaron.
There are songs that are Irish. There are songs that wish they were Irish.
This music, combined with toasts, jokes, and stories,
Matthew Young strives to bring the mirth and magic of the Emerald Isle to the Renaissance fairs and festivals all over the country.
For more information, go take a look at The Pride of Ireland.

Oh, we had saved seven years when the measles broke out and the ship lost her way in a fall.
And all of the crew was reduced down to two.
It was myself and the captain's old dog.
Oh, well, the ship struck a rock, lowered but a shot.
We nearly tumbled over.
Oh, we spun nine times around.
And that poor old dog was drowned.
It's so sad, but it makes me the last of the Irish troopers.
Oh, fare thee well, my pretty little girl.
For we are bound away.
Fare thee well, my pretty little girl.
For we are bound away.
Yes, we are bound away.

Bachelors March by Misfits of Avalon from their album Avalon Moon.
After that was the Jackdaws with Banish Morrisons from the album Troubles.
The Jackdaws perform at the Ohio Renaissance Festival.
And Avalon Moon is at the Connecticut Renaissance Faire.
This is Greg from The Rent List.
Here's what fairs are opening and closing in the next few weeks.
As happens around this time of year, there are lots of fairs opening.
On August 31st, the following fairs open.
The Renaissance Fair at Sleepy Hollow in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Ohio Renaissance Festival in Waynesville.
The Connecticut Renaissance Fair in Lebanon.
The Kansas City Renaissance Festival.
And the King Richard's Fair in Carver, Massachusetts.
A week later on September 7th, the Sparta, New Jersey Renaissance Festival starts its three-weekend run.
New this year is the Arkansas Renaissance Festival in Mount Vernon, running from August 31st through the end of September.
Other long-running one-weekend events include the Harvest Fair in Cortland, Virginia.
The Rosemary House Fairies Festival in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
And the Shrewsbury Renaissance Fair in Monmouth, Oregon.
And that's just a few of them. There's way more going on everywhere.
To find an event near you, go to therenlist.com.
Up next is the Seaside Promenade from Vince Conway's album, Liminal Spaces.
You can see Vince at the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
But first...
First we'll hear a track by The Reel and Rogues, who perform at the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival.
From the album Live at Klata, this is John Brain's Laura's Reel, Jenny Dang the Weaver.
One, two, three, four.
Ten stone, wind I'm over, ginny get along
Ginny blow the horn as we go marching over
And if you drown when you are young
Way, hey, high low
It's better to drown than wait to be hung
Way, hey, roll and go
It's ten stone
Ten stone
Ten stone, wind I'm over, ginny get along
Ginny blow the horn as we go marching over
We dig your ditch with a silver spade
Way, hey, high low
There ain't no digging in a watery grave
Way, hey, roll and go
It's ten stone
Ten stone
Ten stone, wind I'm over, ginny get along
Ginny blow the horn as we go marching over
It's ten stone
Ten stone
Ten stone, wind I'm over, ginny get along
Ginny blow the horn as we go marching over
We just heard the gallow glass from Calantir
performed by Shillelagh Law from the album Songs from the Bridge
that was followed by Ten Stone
performed by Trinket from the album Landlocked
Trinket was formed on a whim
they've been performing in the same fashion ever since
they're a folk trio
performing a variety of music including sea shanties
traditional Irish, Scottish, and English songs
original works by members of the group
and more recent folk songs in the Celtic tradition
you can find out more about them on Facebook
just do a search for Trinket
their page has got one of those long numbers after it
that Facebook likes to tag on there
but do a search for Trinket
narrow it down by music, you'll find them
we're looking for people who want to talk to people
we'd like to start including some interviews
with performers, vendors
show attendees
the folks running the shows
anything to do with the Renaissance Festivals
we'd like to hear from folks
and if you're interested in interviewing people along these lines
get in touch with us at renfestpodcasts at gmail.com
and we'll get you set up for it
we'd love to include it in the show
up next, we'll hear All Harpists Go to Heaven
performed by Carl Ash from the album Songs of the Open Road
I am going to confess
I had never heard this song off of this album
until I was looking for the music for this show
and I'm afraid I called you out on this one
it was a little bit of a disturbance
with the laughter that came out in the course of listening to it
I always have to explain that to others in the house
because I'm sitting there with headphones on
they can't hear it
just like a lot of folks I'm sure listening to the podcast itself
when a song strikes me as particularly funny
it gets a little puzzling to watch, honestly
you can find out more about Carl on his Facebook page
facebook.com slash official.carlash.page
and the ash is A-S-C-H
and we'll follow that with Tapster Drinker
performed by the Quartermaster
from their album Quartermaster
the Quartermaster band is a favorite at California fairs and festivals since 2012
they update rowdy pub songs, traditional shanties, tankard swingers, bawdy stuff
and original manly tunes
with new three-part arrangements and lots of charming swagger
find out more about them on their Facebook page
look for Quartermaster Band
well I think I know what I'm talking about
I know the difference between right and wrong
so I try to be nice
and sing good songs
I try to hurt no one
they'll have lots of fun
and I think that that's just grand
but I often wonder what'll happen when I die
we've all heard descriptions of that Eden in the sky
of those angels with wings
blocking on those strings
but what of that place down below
all harvest go to heaven
as we've heard is true
where they play for those who are good
and if all that's true
all those harpers they go right to heaven
bagged pipers they go straight to hell
yeah
bagged pipers they go straight to hell
all harvest go to heaven
as we've heard is true
where they play for those who are good
and if all those harpers they go right to heaven
bagged pipers they go straight to hell
all harvest go to heaven
yeah bagged pipers they go straight to hell
Now you might be thinking that I'm saying pipers are bad
They play out of tune or that each one's a cat
But that is so not true, I'll explain to you
The devil, he was given first choice
And if all those pipers are in Satan's land
They'll have to have drummers to lend a hand
They'll need to drink a few, bring some dancers too
So come on, that's where the party will be
All harpists go to heaven, as we've heard is true
Where they play for those who are good
And if all those harpists, they go right to heaven
Bagpipers, they go straight to hell
Yeah, bagpipers, they go straight to hell
All harpists go to heaven, as we've heard is true
Where they play for those who are good
And if all those harpists, they go right to heaven
Bagpipers, they go straight to hell
Yeah, and guitarists, they go straight to hell
Yeah, whistle players, they go straight to hell
Yeah, fiddle players, they go straight to hell
You're all invited
Bagpipers, they go straight to hell
Crikey!
That's the dream come true
Fill another ale
Anon have I do
God send us good ale
Avail the stake of ale
Here is good ale I've found
Oh Ned
Drink to me
And I'll drink to you
And I'll cry to thee
And let the cup go round
Oh Ned
Tapster, drinker
Fill another ale
Anon have I do
God send us good ale
Avail the stake of ale
Here is good ale
Anon have I do God send us good ale
Avail the stake of ale
Here is good ale I've found
Oh Ned
Drink to me
And I to thee
And let the cup go round
Oh Ned

Well, you might have a gun and you might have a sword, but I've got a demon from the other world.
Three days of torment, I've watched your madness grow.
Torture and nightmares, they're down to go.
They'll chop off your hands, leave you dying in a quicksand.
Follow you home and scramble your brains, however I'd rather drive you insane.
There is something far worse we have in store for us.

La-dee-ah

Dragging you to hell
Black Ghost
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I drank sixteen doubles for the price of one
Tried to find the courage to talk to one
I had served for a dance
Not a second glance
My night had just begun
Well, I drank to the Father or the Holy Ghost
Kneeling at the altar, it's my nightly post
So I'll raise a glass
Not the first or last
Come join me in this toast
Because the old black rump's got a hold on me
Like a dog wrapped round my leg
Hey-ho!
That old black rump's got a hold on me
Will I live for another day?
Hey, will I live for another day?
Well, the queen of George Street went walking on by
Walking on by
With some guy who don't care
And she stood in line
Since that past night
And spent three hours on her hair
On her hair!
Well, her friends are looking
At me with an evil grin
I think a bloody wrecking
Might soon be keen
I must have said something
To that George Street queen
The boys are joining in
Because the old black rump's got a hold on me
Like a dog wrapped round my leg
Hey, will that old black rump's got a hold on me
Will I live for another day?
Hey!
Well, I'll live for another day
Well, I drank up all my money
And I slept out in the rain
Every day is different
But the nights are all the same
You'll never see the sun
On that old black rump
You know I'm gonna do it again
Because the old black rump's got a hold on me
Like a dog wrapped round my leg
Hey, will that old black rump's got a hold on me
Will I live for another day?
Hey, will I live for another day?
Because that old black rump's got a hold on me
Like a dog wrapped round my leg
Hey, will that old black rump's got a hold on me
Will I live for another day?
Hey, will I live for another day?
Hey, well, I'm here for another day.
We heard Lamia, performed by Gallows Humor from their album NecroDancer.
Gallows Humor is an energetic, undead gypsy band,
currently working on their third album for all their devoted fans.
They also have a blog at gallowshumorband.com,
where upcoming events and band news is posted,
so you can go ahead and check that out.
And that was followed by Old Black Rum,
performed by the McGuire Brothers from their album Sibling Rivalry.
The McGuire Brothers are three Irish brothers sharing their sibling rivalry
and general shenanigans, laughs, toasts, and fun,
all mixed up with traditional Irish music.
You can look for them on their Facebook page, McGuire Brothers 3.
And because I like to point out how different performers interpret the songs
in their own unique way, we're going to have another version of Old Black Rum.
This one's much more of a driving rock version of it,
performed by...
from the album Pissed Drunk and Pissed Off.
Luca the Mad Scald performs a mix of traditional fair songs,
Norse-inspired songs and stories, bawdy songs,
and the occasional Ren Faire rock show,
which is what this particular piece particularly falls in that last category.
So, give a listen to that, see how it compares to the McGuire Brothers version.
There are several others out there.
Try to highlight different versions of some of these songs from time to time.
You wouldn't believe the duplication we have with some of the songs.
I believe our record...
is around 38 versions of a song that we have in the podcast library.
It just shows there are different ways to interpret it,
different tastes to enjoy it,
and one of the reasons we're here is to give you a chance to
seek out the performers that you like the best.
You can find out more about Luca at lucothemad.com.
That's L-U-K-U-T-H-E-M-A-D dot com.
And we'll lighten it up after that
with Rattlin' Bog performed by Painted Trillium from the album
Painted Trillium.
Painted Trillium is a three-member Celtic band
performing traditional Celtic and folk music.
Find out more about them at paintedtrillium.com.
That's P-A-I-N-T-E-D-T-R-I-L-L-I-U-M dot com.
I drank 16 doubles for the price of one
Trying to find the courage to talk to one
I asked them for a dance, not a second glance
My night had just begun
When I drink to the Father and the Holy Ghost
I'm kneeling at the altar of my nightly post
I raise a glass, not the first nor last
Come join me in this toast
Cause the old black grump's got a hold on me
Like a dog wrapped around my leg
And the old black grump's got a hold on me
Will I live for another day?
Well, the Queen of Georgia isn't walking on by
Walking on by with some guy who don't care that he's still alive
It's half past nine, it's been three hours on her hand
Our friends are looking at me with an evil grin
I think a bloody racket might soon begin
But instead of saying to the George Street Queen
Her boys aren't joining in
Cause the old black grump's got a hold on me
Like a dog wrapped around my leg
And the old black grump's got a hold on me
Will I live for another day?
Well, I drink all of my money and I sleep out in the rain
Everything is different but the nights are all the same
You never see the sun on the old black grump
But I know I'm gonna do it again
Cause the old black grump's got a hold on me
Like a dog wrapped around my leg
And the old black grump's got a hold on me
Will I live for another day?
Because the old black grump's got a hold on me
Like a dog wrapped around my leg
And the old black grump's got a hold on me
Will I live for another day?
Thank you.
All the trades are going
Sure a begging is the best
When a man gets tired
He can let go
He can lay down to rest
A begging I will go
I sleep beneath the hollow tree
There I pay no rent
Providence provides for me
I am heaven sent
A begging I will go
I fear no plots against me
I sleep in an open cell
Who would be a king now
When a beggar lives so well
A begging I will go
Thank you.
I am a little beggar man and begging I've seen for three score more in the little
I'm known from the lift beyond down to the tube I'm known by the name of old Johnny
I'm all the trades are going sure I'm begging as a bed when a man gets tired he can lay down
to rest sing for supper when there's nothing else to do I sit around at night with this old
I slept one night in a barn and
a clarabana when naked man and I slept until the dawn holes in the roof in the rain are peeking
through the cats and the rats all playing peekaboo who should awaken but the woman of the house
no white spotted apron in a calico blouse she began to fright and I said boo don't be afraid
man it's old Johnny too I met a little flaxy haired girl one day good morning little flaxy
haired girl I did say good morning little beggar man and how do you do with your rags and your
tags and your old
I'll buy a pair of stockings and a collar and a tie and a right fine lady I'll fetch by a bot
I'll buy a pair of goggles in the color then blue and an old-fashioned lady I'll make a view
well it's over the fields with my pack on my back over the hills from the great heaven sack
holes in the shoes and the toes are peeking through skin a wriggle think it's old Johnny
cute I must be going to bed first getting late at night the fire's all rigged and out goes the
light now you know the story of the old
goodnight and God be with you this is old Johnny too
might say special but don't say bad about it
now I'm
I'm
three men
can
how
do
of the west
their fortunes
for to try
and these three men
made a solemn oath
John Bollicorn
must die
they bowed
they soared
they hollered
the men
who crossed
upon his head
till these
three men
were satisfied
John Bollicorn
was dead
they let him
lie for a very
long time
till the rains
from heaven
did fall
and little
Sir John
sprung up
his head
and so
on
he's
all
they let
him stand
till the
mid-stars
lay
till he grew
both
pale and
one
and little
Sir John
grew a long
long
hair
and so
they let him
go
and so
God
came
a man
and so
they
they hired
a man
with a
scythe
so sharp
to cut
him off
at his
they rolled
him and
tied him
around the
waist
treated him
most
modestly
they hired
men
with the
sharp
edge
forks
to
pierce
him to
his heart
and the
loader
has served
him worse
than that
for he
tied him
to a
cart
they
built him
around and
around the
hill
till they
came onto
a barn
and there
they made
a solemn
oath
on
poor
John
Barley
corn
they
hired
men
with a
crab
to
take
to strip
him
skin
from

and the
biller
has treated
him
worst
of all
for he
found
him
between
stones
and stone
and
It's a little Sir John in a large brown mold
And a brandy and a glass
A little Sir John in a large brown mold
The stronger man at last
For the huntsman he has hung the fox
Don't loudly blow his horn
And that tinker can't mend kettles or pots
How can little barley corn
No, that tinker can't mend kettles or pots
Without a little barley corn
That's B-A-R-D-M-A-G-E-D-D-O-N
And so until next time, take care.
Call now, it's time to act
It's the drum that plays itself and that's a fact
You've got no talent, no need to fear
We've got the instrument you need right over here
Cause there's no wrong way to play a bull run
Just hit it with a stick
So be the moron with the bull run
And hope the moron with the bull run gets the check
No need to practice, nothing to learn
We've said I'm still deep with it all
Just get returnable
No money down, no credit checks
And if you don't have rhythm, no one suspects
Cause there's no wrong way to play a bull run
Just hit it with a stick
So be the moron with the bull run
And hope the moron with the bull run gets the check
Or let's assume you're not that bright
You're just a tourist so I learned to play it right
Cause there's no wrong way to play a bull run
Just hit it with a stick
So be the moron with the bull run
And hope the moron with the bull run gets the check
Just hit it with a stick
So be the moron with the bull run
And hope the moron with the bull run gets the chicks
Cause there's no wrong way to play a bull run
Just hit it with a stick
So be the moron with the bull run
Or better yet, just smash it with a brick
Who the hell is Seamus Kennedy?
I'm Seamus Kennedy
I spent it in good company
And all the harm that dare I done
Alas, it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So feel to me though
A parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
If I had money enough to spend
And leisure time to sit a while
There is a fair maid in this town
That sorely has my heart begun
Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips
I own, she has my heart enthralled
So feel to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I had
There's a fair maid in this town
I'm sorry for my going away
And all the sweet hearts that e'er I had
They wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly go
Good night and joy be with you all

Music overwhelms a sad
ballad singer. It
passed too quick.
What happened to time when musicians
would gather to play a few
licks?
Hold me a moment.
Don't say a word.
Let me inhale so I can
smell the magic that's
floating.
Another year passes.
I think I must have blinked.
There's too much I missed
and
not enough lasses.
