Je vais commencer par le résumé, puis la critique, et je vais compléter en vous donnant mon appréciation du livre.

L'action commence lorsqu'il déjoue un joueur adverse durant une partie de cross.

The action begins when he outsmarts an opposing player during a game of cross.

Le joueur est un élève puissant et très populaire.

On peut constater par la suite les inégalités du secondaire où certains individus détiennent tout le pouvoir.

Pendant cette période, Steve avait beaucoup d'angoisse à l'école et vivait avec la constante peur de rencontrer Mag, le joueur qu'il avait déjoué.

Plus loin dans l'histoire, on apprend la mort de MSA, le corps arrière de l'équipe de football de l'école, les Spartiates.

La nouvelle affecte à tout le monde.

Tout au long du roman, Steve décrit les nombreuses attentes et exigences que les gens ont envers les élèves.

Throughout the novel, Steve describes the numerous expectations and demands that people have of students.

En plus, il y a la pression d'assumer sur une orientation sexuelle, car on apprend à la fin de l'histoire que MSA s'était suicidé parce qu'il était gay et que son coach de football était homophobe.

In addition, there is the pressure to assume a sexual orientation, as we learn at the end of the story that MSA had committed suicide because he was gay and because his football coach was homophobic.

Biz est sans aucun doute quelqu'un avec une grande culture générale.

Biz is undoubtedly someone with a great general knowledge.

On le remarque très vite dans les pensées de Steve et cela ajoute beaucoup à un roman qui serait plutôt ennuyant selon moi, sans les bonnes descriptions et les nombreux bons points de vue sur la société.

You notice it very quickly in Steve's thoughts, and it adds a lot to a novel that would be rather boring in my opinion, without the good descriptions and the many good perspectives on society.

Cependant, parfois ça ne collait pas vraiment avec l'histoire car on a l'impression d'entendre Biz plutôt que Steve parler.

However, sometimes it didn't really fit with the story because it felt like we were hearing Biz rather than Steve talk.

Les pensées très matures de l'auteur ne représentaient pas ce qu'un adolescent de l'âge adulte.

The author's very mature thoughts did not represent what an adult teenager would think.

Autre cela, l'auteur réussit à bien expliquer les poids et les stress que vivent les adolescents à travers les pensées de Steve.

Apart from that, the author manages to well explain the weights and stresses that adolescents experience through Steve's thoughts.

Personnellement, ce n'était pas ma lecture préférée.

Personally, it wasn't my favorite read.

Outre les bonnes descriptions et les morales importantes de la société, j'ai trouvé l'histoire fade.

Aside from the good descriptions and the important morals of society, I found the story bland.

C'est-à-dire celle d'un adolescent vivant des hauts et des bas, qui est peut-être très représentative de l'adolescence pour certains, mais qui n'est pas un sujet sur lequel j'ai envie de lire.

That is to say, the one of a teenager experiencing ups and downs, which may be very representative of adolescence for some, but it is not a subject I want to read about.

Bien qu'il y ait eu une phase de stress après la partie de Cross et le suicide de M.S.A., je ne trouve pas que ces éléments m'ont motivé à continuer l'histoire, bien qu'ils étaient réalistes.

Although there was a phase of stress after the Cross game and the suicide of M.S.A., I don't find that these elements motivated me to continue the story, although they were realistic.

En fin de compte, je n'irai pas à dire que le roman était mauvais.

Ultimately, I wouldn't say that the novel was bad.

Au contraire, l'auteur a écrit très bien et aborde des aspects de l'histoire très bien.

On the contrary, the author has written very well and addresses aspects of history very well.

Il s'agissait tout simplement pas de mon genre de lecture.

It simply wasn't my kind of reading.

Je ne l'ai pas vu moi-même, mais sachez qu'il existe une version cinématographique de la chute de Sparte qui porte le même nom et dont les critiques sont excellentes.

I haven't seen it myself, but know that there is a film version of the fall of Sparta that bears the same name and has excellent reviews.
