Why did you choose this title? Does it say something particular about you?

Je pense qu'il correspond plutôt à un moment de ma vie.

I think it corresponds more to a moment in my life.

C'est un groupe danois dont j'ai vécu 7-8 ans au Danemark.

It's a Danish group that I lived with for 7-8 years in Denmark.

Là, je suis en train de faire mon rat de patrimoine en France depuis un an à peu près.

There, I have been doing my heritage rat in France for about a year.

C'est une musique qui a été utilisée dans le film.

It's a music that was used in the film.

Je crois que c'est traduit par Druck en français, qui est un film de Thomas Winterberg.

I believe it is translated as "Druck" in French, which is a film by Thomas Winterberg.

C'est un film danois et on a une équipe en commun, notamment Yannus qui est le monteur sur ce film-là

J'ai fait le Covid au Danemark, à Copenhague, où on n'était pas limité pour sortir,

I had Covid in Denmark, in Copenhagen, where we weren't restricted from going out.

mais on devait limiter le groupe de gens qu'on voyait.

But we had to limit the group of people we saw.

Du coup, on se retrouvait avec nos copines dans nos appartements et j'ai beaucoup dansé sur cette musique.

So, we would find ourselves with our friends in our apartments and I danced a lot to that music.

C'est un bon clin d'œil.

It's a good wink.

Qui, pour moi, me parle quand le film est sorti, quand on a fini le film.

Who, for me, talks to me when the movie is out, when we finish the movie.

Une période un peu étrange, à la fois Covid fermée et en même temps un film que je sors après sept ans de travail dessus.

A somewhat strange period, both closed due to Covid and at the same time a film that I am releasing after seven years of work on it.

Il n'y a quand même pas tellement de groupes danois qui perdent en dehors de la marque.

There aren't many Danish groups that lose outside of the brand, after all.

Eux l'ont fait et du coup, c'est plus un moment de vie qui me fait penser à plus que quelque chose que ça dit de moi.

They did it, and as a result, it's more a moment in life that makes me think of more than just something it says about me.

C'est sympa en tout cas comme titre parce que ça relie à la fois un moment que tu as vécu,

Et on va, avant de parler de ton parcours professionnel, on va parler un petit peu plus de ton parcours personnel, en tout cas éducatif.

And before we talk about your professional background, we are going to talk a little bit more about your personal journey, at least educationally.

Après ton bac, tu entres à l'IUT de Lagnon, à Rennes 1, pour suivre un DUT.

After your high school diploma, you will enter the IUT of Lagnon, at Rennes 1, to pursue a DUT.

Donc c'est ce qui s'appelle un B.

So this is what is called a B.

Aujourd'hui, en communication des organisations, tu pars ensuite plusieurs mois à Birmingham, en Angleterre, pour être assistante de professeur de français.

Today, in organizational communication, you are then leaving for several months to Birmingham, England, to be a French teaching assistant.

Et en rentrant de l'Angleterre, tu retournes à Rennes 1, où tu suis une licence professionnelle en gestion de la production audiovisuelle, multimédia et événementielle.

And upon returning from England, you go back to Rennes 1, where you are pursuing a professional degree in audiovisual production management, multimedia, and events.

Pendant cette année-là, tu fais un stage dans une société de production vidéo en tant qu'assistante du manager de production.

During that year, you are doing an internship at a video production company as an assistant to the production manager.

L'année d'après, tu entres à l'école des Gobelins, où tu suis la licence professionnelle technique et activité de l'imagerie.

The following year, you enter the Gobelins school, where you pursue a professional degree in imaging techniques and activities.

Tu fais cette année de licence professionnelle en alternance dans le magazine d'Arte sur le court-métrage Court-Circuit.

You are doing this year of a professional bachelor's degree in work-study at Arte's magazine on short films, Court-Circuit.

Suite à ton année d'alternance, tu restes au sein de ce magazine, où tu suis en parallèle le programme d'animation Sans Frontières.

Following your year of work-study, you remain within this magazine, where you are also participating in the Animation Without Borders program.

Tu as eu un parcours éducatif bien complet, Charlotte, et on peut constater qu'après ton expérience à l'étranger, tu te diriges plutôt vers les métiers de l'audiovisuel, contrairement à avant ton départ en Angleterre. Pourquoi ?

You have had a very comprehensive educational background, Charlotte, and we can see that after your experience abroad, you are leaning more towards careers in audiovisual, unlike before your departure to England. Why?

En fait, quand j'ai fini mon IUT à Lagnon, j'ai fait quelques stages dans la communication et j'avais du mal à me voir, à me projeter dans un boulot de com.

In fact, when I finished my IUT in Lagnon, I did a few internships in communication, and I had difficulty envisioning myself in a communication job.

C'est aussi pour ça que je suis partie en Angleterre pour me donner un peu plus de temps.

That's also why I went to England to give myself a little more time.

J'ai été à trois quarts d'heure de Birmingham, et donc c'est un petit bled tout paumé où je me suis bien embêtée.

I was three quarters of an hour from Birmingham, and so it's a little backwater where I got quite bored.

J'ai appris l'anglais, donc ça c'est l'avantage. J'ai regardé plein de films et j'avais eu quelques cours d'audiovisuel pendant mon IUT,

I learned English, so that's the advantage. I watched a lot of movies and I had some audiovisual classes during my technical university.

dans un module qui s'appelait communication interne, et il y avait un module vidéo.

in a module called internal communication, and there was a video module.

Et en fait, ce rapport à l'image, de monter, de cadrer, c'était de l'esthétisme et à la fois de raconter des histoires me plaisait bien.

And in fact, this relationship to the image, of shooting and framing, was both aesthetic and the idea of telling stories pleased me a lot.

Et en fait, je savais que je n'étais pas faite pour les études longues, dans le sens où en tout cas, il fallait un côté pratique.

And in fact, I knew that I was not made for long studies, in the sense that, in any case, there had to be a practical side.

Et donc, j'ai regardé ce qu'il y avait en licence audiovisuelle qui pouvait même correspondre.

And so, I looked at what was available in audiovisual licensing that might even match.

J'avais un peu peur aussi de ne pas trouver de boulot, clairement, en me disant, je ne sais pas comment je vais réussir à trouver un boulot.

I was also a little afraid of not finding a job, clearly, thinking to myself, I don't know how I'm going to manage to find a job.

Un truc qui me faisait vraiment peur.

Something that really scared me.

Donc, en me disant, je vais prendre quelque chose de professionnalisant parce que ça me mettra, j'espère, un pied à l'étrier pour rentrer dans le monde du travail.

So, by telling myself, I will choose something professional because it will hopefully give me a foot in the door to enter the workforce.

Et en fait, après l'Angleterre, j'ai postulé au Gobelin, mais je n'ai pas été prise la première fois.

And in fact, after England, I applied to Gobelins, but I was not accepted the first time.

J'ai fait l'entretien, mais je n'ai pas été prise au deuxième.

I had the interview, but I was not accepted in the second round.

Donc, je suis allée à Rennes faire licence pro audiovisuelle.

So, I went to Rennes to pursue a professional degree in audiovisual studies.

Et là, j'ai pris un stage dans la ville de ma licence qui était Rennes.

And then, I took an internship in the city where I got my degree, which was Rennes.

Je n'avais pas d'argent pour aller vivre dans une autre ville.

I didn't have any money to move to another city.

Et c'est là où j'ai découvert l'animation, en fait, que je n'avais pas du tout pensé ce médium-là en particulier.

And that's where I discovered animation, in fact, I hadn't thought about that particular medium at all.

Mais en fait, j'ai trouvé que le travail d'équipe que demande l'animation, c'est-à-dire qu'il faut une grosse équipe pour faire un film

But in fact, I found that the teamwork required for animation means that a large team is needed to make a film.

parce qu'on produit presque en moyenne de deux à cinq secondes d'animation par jour à peu près, en fonction des techniques, des logiciels.

because we produce about two to five seconds of animation per day on average, depending on the techniques and software.

C'est un travail qu'on ne fait pas tout seul.

It's a job that can't be done alone.

Il y a aussi le fait qu'on n'est pas d'acteurs à l'écran.

There is also the fact that we are not actors on screen.

Ce ne sont que des voix.

These are just voices.

Enfin, des voix, des doublages.

Finally, voices, voice-overs.

Ce qui fait qu'il y a un peu moins d'égo, un peu moins de...

What makes it so there is a little less ego, a little less of...

C'est beaucoup moins glamour.

It's much less glamorous.

Si on prend, par exemple, le festival d'Annecy et le festival de Cannes, ce n'est pas du tout la même atmosphère.

If we take, for example, the Annecy festival and the Cannes festival, it's not at all the same atmosphere.

Et ça, ce côté un peu plus...

And this, this somewhat more...

Ouais, c'était quelque chose qui me plaisait beaucoup.

Yeah, it was something I really liked.

Et puis, je me suis dit aussi, en fait, il y a du boulot dans ce milieu-là parce qu'il n'y a qu'une école qui forma ça à la production audiovisuelle.

And then, I also said to myself, actually, there is work in this field because there is only one school that trains in audiovisual production.

C'est les Gobelins.

It's the Goblins.

Et l'animation est une industrie en France.

And animation is an industry in France.

La France est le troisième exportateur mondial d'animation.

France is the world's third largest exporter of animation.

Le Japon, les Etats-Unis et la France.

Japan, the United States, and France.

Plutôt les Etats-Unis, le Japon et la France, dans cet ordre-là.

Rather the United States, Japan, and France, in that order.

Donc, il y a du travail, mais c'est très peu connu.

So, there is work, but it is very little known.

Et ça, ça me rassurait aussi de me dire, je vais aussi prendre une formation où je vais pouvoir être payée, en fait.

And that reassured me too to think that I would also take a training where I would actually be able to get paid.

Et c'est la seule encore aujourd'hui école qui propose cette formation.

And it is the only school today that offers this training.

Il n'y en a pas d'autres en France.

There are no others in France.

Non, il n'y a pas d'autres en France, ouais.

No, there are no others in France, yeah.

Donc, en fait, ça a été un peu le résultat de...

So, in fact, it was a bit the result of...

Ah, je ne sais pas trop quel boulot faire, mais là, ça a l'air de recruter.

Ah, I’m not sure what job to do, but it looks like they are hiring here.

Et cet esprit d'équipe, en fait, qui t'enthousiasme et qui t'a permis de diriger vers ce que tu veux dire.

And this team spirit, in fact, that excites you and has allowed you to lead toward what you want to say.

Il y a ça, et puis aussi la découverte du processus de création.

There is that, and then also the discovery of the creative process.

Et aussi, pour moi, je trouve ça assez incroyable, en fait,

And also, for me, I find that quite incredible, actually,

comment les artistes qui font du concept de caractère design, de décor,

how the artists who do character design, decor,

créent des personnages avec des looks complètement différents.

create characters with completely different looks.

L'imagination, elle est infinie, en fait, dans l'animation.

Imagination is, in fact, infinite in animation.

Et ça, ce processus de création, à quel point les artistes qui dessinent

And that, this process of creation, to what extent the artists who draw

pour créer le mouvement des personnages,

to create the movement of the characters,

la patience qui est nécessaire, les écoles d'animation,

the patience that is necessary, animation schools,

c'est cinq ans d'études pour apprendre à dessiner, à créer le mouvement

It's five years of study to learn how to draw, to create movement.

et à respecter une direction artistique.

and to adhere to an artistic direction.

Et moi, je suis fascinée par les gens qui sont capables de travailler là-dedans et de créer.

And I am fascinated by people who are able to work in that field and create.

Et en fait, je pense qu'il y a aussi eu une autre chose.

And in fact, I think there was also another thing.

J'ai une soeur.

I have a sister.

Ma soeur, elle a fait l'école des Beaux-Arts de Paris, de l'art plastique.

My sister attended the School of Fine Arts in Paris, studying plastic arts.

C'est un peu plus expérimental.

It's a little more experimental.

J'avais été rendue visite à quelques-unes de ses expositions.

I had visited a few of his exhibitions.

Et en fait, je me rendais compte à quel point il y avait énormément d'artistes

And in fact, I realized how there were so many artists.

qui avaient du talent, mais qui n'étaient pas en capacité de mettre en avant leur projet.

who had talent, but who were unable to showcase their project.

Parce que ce n'est pas forcément...

Because it isn't necessarily...

Un artiste peut avoir des difficultés de parler de soi et n'a pas forcément les outils.

An artist may have difficulty talking about themselves and may not necessarily have the tools.

Et donc, c'est là où mon background en communication,

And so, that’s where my background in communication,

aussi, fait sens.

also makes sense.

Parce que ce qui m'intéressait aussi, c'est comment me servir avec mes compétences

Because what interested me as well is how to use my skills.

d'avoir une facilité pour discuter, pour parler, d'être associable,

to have an ease in discussing, in speaking, to be unsociable,

de mettre en place un réseau et de mener des projets à bien, de gérer des projets.

to set up a network and successfully carry out projects, to manage projects.

Mettre ça au service d'un projet artistique et d'utiliser ces compétences que j'ai

Put this to the service of an artistic project and use these skills that I have.

pour des artistes qui me touchent dans ce qu'ils veulent raconter,

for artists who resonate with me in what they want to convey,

dans la manière dans laquelle ils veulent raconter.

in the way they want to tell.

Et donc, je pense que tout ça, mixé ensemble, ça m'a fait que je me suis dirigée

And so, I think that all of this, mixed together, led me to head in a certain direction.

Parce qu'en fait, j'ai repostulé au Gobelin après mon stage à Rennes,

Because in fact, I reapplied to Gobelin after my internship in Rennes,

la société Vivement Lundi.

Et cette fois-ci, j'ai été prise.

And this time, I was caught.

C'est une formation en un an qui est en alternance.

It is a one-year training program that alternates between theoretical and practical experience.

Et on apprend plus le management d'animation.

And we learn more about animation management.

Comment est-ce qu'on gère la production d'une série ou d'un long métrage,

How do we manage the production of a series or a feature film?

plus que d'être producteur en soi.

more than just being a producer in itself.

Et en fait, je pense qu'être producteur, c'est plus quelque chose qui nous habite

And actually, I think that being a producer is more something that lives within us.

ou qui... Enfin, qui nous habite.

or who... Well, who inhabits us.

C'est une volonté personnelle de vouloir reproduire tous mes...

It is a personal desire to want to reproduce all my...

Tous les gens de ma promo n'ont pas été producteurs ou productrices derrière.

Not everyone in my class has been a producer behind the scenes.

Il y en a quelques-uns, mais sur une promo de 20, on est peut-être 4.

There are a few, but out of a promotion of 20, there are maybe 4 of us.

On sera prêts à avoir des vérités de producteurs ou productrices.

We will be ready to have truths from producers.

Oui, c'est aussi la sensibilité personnelle et tes intérêts qui vont faire

Yes, it's also your personal sensitivity and interests that will make a difference.

que tu vas te diriger vers ce métier.

that you are going to pursue this profession.

Mais ce n'est pas de facto la formation que tu as fait au Gobelin.

Non, non, non. C'est ce qu'on en fait, en fait, vraiment.

Et j'ai l'impression qu'il y a quand même deux choses qui s'en rejoignent,

de mettre en avant des artistes,

Mais aussi, tu l'as dit à plusieurs reprises,

le fait qu'il n'y avait pas forcément de débouchés, pas forcément de boulot.

Et tu penses que cette crainte de ne pas trouver de boulot dans ce qui t'intéressait,

c'était dû à quoi ?

Est-ce que c'était dû à une méconnaissance du secteur,

Was it due to a lack of understanding of the sector,

à peut-être une orientation qui n'était pas très claire ?

Effectivement, quand tu travailles dans l'artistique, on ne va pas te dire...

Indeed, when you work in the arts, they won’t tell you...

Tu ne vas pas trouver un boulot.

You are not going to find a job.

Je pense qu'il y a ça.

I think there is that.

Et je pense qu'après, c'est d'angoisse.

And I think that afterwards, it's anxiety.

C'est un type d'éducation.

It's a type of education.

Avec 18 ans, tu ne peux pas être dépendante de tes parents.

At 18 years old, you cannot be dependent on your parents.

Il y a un peu plus de 10 ans,

A little over 10 years ago,

j'avais vraiment du mal à me projeter dans comment je vais réussir à travailler

I was really struggling to envision how I would be able to work.

dans le monde du travail.

in the world of work.

Ça, ça me faisait flipper.

That scared me.

Je ne sais pas comment je vais réussir à gagner ma vie.

I don't know how I'm going to manage to earn a living.

C'est quelque chose qui ressurgit souvent chez les étudiants.

It's something that often resurfaces among students.

Je trouve que c'est aussi pour ça que j'ai créé ce podcast,

I think that's also why I created this podcast,

je trouve qu'à cet âge-là, on ne voit pas comment se projeter.

I find that at that age, it's hard to see how to project oneself.

Et parfois, dans notre entourage, on n'a pas non plus de modèle.

And sometimes, in our surroundings, we also don't have a role model.

des projets européens,

des financements européens,

European funding,

des talents européens de ma génération.

European talents of my generation.

Et ça permet vraiment de pouvoir poser

And it really allows you to be able to ask.

toutes les questions qu'on souhaite.

All the questions one wishes.

On a des intervenants qui sont des gens

We have speakers who are people.

du milieu professionnel qui travaillent,

from the professional environment that works,

de distributeurs, de réalisateurs, de producteurs.

of distributors, of directors, of producers.

Ça, c'était une expérience incroyable.

That was an amazing experience.

Et c'est là où j'ai rencontré

notamment deux de mes partenaires de société,

notably two of my business partners,

qui sont devenus après partenaires de société,

who later became business partners,

pendant cette formation-là.

during that training.

Et en fait, après cette formation-là,

And in fact, after that training,
