Alors, ma première question serait, quel est l'objet principal de votre article?

So, my first question would be, what is the main subject of your article?

En fait, il y en a deux. Donc, on s'intéresse aux motivations à devenir policier, donc des aspirants policiers québécois.

In fact, there are two. So, we are interested in the motivations for becoming a police officer, specifically for aspiring police officers in Quebec.

Mais on s'intéresse aussi à l'interaction qu'il y a avec les aspirations professionnelles.

But we are also interested in the interaction with professional aspirations.

Donc, pourquoi ils ont entrepris ces études-là, mais aussi qu'est-ce qu'ils aimeraient faire plus tard au cours de leur carrière.

So, why they undertook those studies, but also what they would like to do later in their career.

Donc, puis on a vu très rapidement qu'il y avait un lien très fort entre les deux.

So, we quickly saw that there was a very strong connection between the two.

Donc, il y a des gens, par exemple, qui ont un plan de carrière très précis et qui vont suivre des études en technique policière pour atteindre ce plan de carrière-là.

So, there are people, for example, who have a very specific career plan and who will pursue studies in police techniques to achieve that career plan.

Donc, un profil, disons, plus pragmatique pour devenir policier, mais aussi un profil qu'on a nommé missionnaire.

So, a profile that is, let's say, more pragmatic to become a police officer, but also a profile that we have called missionary.

Ceux qui adhèrent ou qui commencent des études en technique policière pour aider la communauté, pour prévenir la criminalité, pour assurer essentiellement la sécurité de leur père.

Those who join or begin studies in police technology to help the community, to prevent crime, to ensure primarily the safety of their father.

La première, c'est…

The first one is…

Puis, je devance un peu la question suivante, là, mais la première, c'est de voir à quel point les étudiants en technique policière ne sont pas si intéressés que ça à rester policiers patrouilleurs.

Then, I slightly anticipate the next question here, but the first is to see how much students in police technology are not that interested in staying as patrol officers.

Donc, les policiers qu'on connaît en uniforme qui répondent aux appels, par exemple, la majorité accepte de le faire, d'occuper cette fonction-là,

So, the uniformed police officers we know who respond to calls, for example, the majority accept to do it, to hold that position,

mais veulent plutôt aller vers les enquêtes.

but would rather go towards the investigations.

Donc, c'est-à-dire vers les groupes d'intervention, qu'on nomme communément le SWAT, là, où ils vont avoir d'autres aspirations professionnelles.

So, that is to say towards the intervention groups, commonly referred to as SWAT, where they will have other professional aspirations.

Donc, le passage par la patrouille est un peu un passage obligé.

So, going through the patrol is somewhat of a necessary step.

Donc, c'est probablement le résultat le plus important parce que ça remet en question plein de choses, particulièrement les méthodes de recrutement, les méthodes d'admission au programme de technique policière.

So, this is probably the most important result because it calls into question a lot of things, particularly recruitment methods and admission methods for the police technology program.

Est-ce qu'on recrute les bonnes personnes?

Are we recruiting the right people?

Ou les personnes qui vont, dans les faits, occuper un emploi policier qui n'est pas nécessairement le plus glamour, mais qui est en soi un métier, le métier pour lequel ils vont être formés?

Or the people who will, in fact, take up a police job that is not necessarily the most glamorous, but which is in itself a profession, the profession for which they will be trained?

Et donc, justement, tu viens d'en parler un peu, mais donc, du point de vue des retombées, est-ce que vous en avez déjà vu? Est-ce que vous en voyez, que ce soit au niveau sociétal, scientifique, pratique?

And so, specifically, you just mentioned it a bit, but from the perspective of the outcomes, have you already seen any? Are you seeing any, whether at the societal, scientific, or practical level?

Oui, il y a une retombée plus immédiate.

Yes, there is a more immediate fallout.

Puis, il y a une retombée pour laquelle, ou des retombées pour lesquelles, il va falloir être patient.

Then, there is a fallout for which, or some fallouts for which, we will need to be patient.

Donc, la retombée plus immédiate, c'est vraiment de constater qu'il y a une certaine diversité, autant au niveau des motivations qu'au niveau des aspirations professionnelles.

So, the more immediate outcome is really to observe that there is a certain diversity, both in terms of motivations and in terms of professional aspirations.

Donc, il y a une certaine diversité au sein même des étudiants en technique policière.

So, there is a certain diversity among the students in police technology.

Donc, ce n'est pas une espèce de bloc monolithique d'aspirants policiers.

So, it's not a kind of monolithic block of aspiring police officers.

Ils ne veulent pas tous faire la même chose.

They don't all want to do the same thing.

Ils ne le font pas pour les mêmes raisons.

They don't do it for the same reasons.

Donc, ça, c'est probablement...

So, that is probably...

C'est probablement le résultat plus immédiat.

It is probably the most immediate result.

Donc, il faut peut-être adapter un petit peu les programmes de formation pour ça.

So, we might need to slightly adapt the training programs for that.

À plus long terme, c'est que ça fait partie où les données sont tirées d'une étude longitudinale.

In the long term, it is because it is part of where the data is drawn from a longitudinal study.

Donc, l'objectif étant éventuellement de croiser les motivations, disons, initiales pendant la formation avec les carrières ou avec la trajectoire professionnelle de ces mêmes personnes-là.

So, the goal is eventually to compare the initial motivations during training with the careers or professional paths of those same individuals.

Donc, puis ça, on n'a pas encore les résultats.

So, after that, we don't have the results yet.

Donc, on n'a pas encore les réponses parce que l'étude a commencé en 2019.

So, we don't have the answers yet because the study started in 2019.

On les suit attentivement, là, tout au long, idéalement tout au long de leur carrière.

We follow them closely, there, throughout, ideally throughout their career.
