donc est-ce que tu veux vous présenter un peu ? Oui, oui bien sûr, donc effectivement on est au

Cap-Vert sur le catamaran Oana et donc on habite en famille avec mon compagnon JP et notre

Cape Verde on the catamaran Oana and so we live as a family with my partner JP and our

deux garçons, Diego qui a 9 ans et Esteban qui a eu 6 ans hier. Donc on est parti de Dunkerque

two boys, Diego who is 9 years old and Esteban who turned 6 yesterday. So we left Dunkirk.

en octobre 2020, donc il y a un peu plus d'un an. On a eu un petit peu de retard avec le Covid,

in October 2020, so a little over a year ago. We were a bit delayed due to Covid,

etc. On était censé partir dans les mois d'été, mais malheureusement on a dû faire ça en hiver,

etc. We were supposed to leave in the summer months, but unfortunately we had to do it in winter.

c'était un peu froid. Et ensuite on a traversé le golfe de Gascogne,

it was a bit cold. And then we crossed the Bay of Biscay,

le nord de l'Espagne, puis on est resté un mois au Portugal, dans le sud. Ensuite on a traversé

the north of Spain, then we stayed a month in Portugal, in the south. After that, we crossed

vers les Canaries où on est resté 2-3 mois. Et puis on est arrivé ici au Cap-Vert le 15 mars,

donc ça va faire 8 mois qu'on est ici, dont je dirais à peu près 7 mois à Salles et le reste

sur 2-3 autres îles qu'on a visitées. Donc voilà, notre projet c'était de pouvoir passer

enfin c'est un projet qu'on a depuis des années, et donc on a vraiment, on travaillait énormément,

Finally, it's a project we've had for years, and we've really been working a lot.

on voyait très peu les enfants, et donc voilà, parce qu'on savait qu'on avait ce projet,

we saw very little of the children, and so there you go, because we knew we had this project,

et qu'on allait le concrétiser. Et donc ça c'est un petit peu le projet de vie, c'est de passer du temps,

and that we were going to make it a reality. And so that's a bit of the life project, to spend time,

de profiter, de rencontrer des personnes, de rencontrer des cultures, des pays.

to take advantage of, to meet people, to encounter cultures, countries.

Et voilà, c'est ce qu'on a commencé à faire.

And there you go, that's what we started to do.

Et vous avez prévu encore pour un moment alors, ou vous avez une durée de voyage déterminée ?

And do you have plans for a while then, or do you have a set travel duration?

Non, on n'a pas de durée déterminée, donc nous on s'est dit, à partir du moment où l'un d'entre nous en a marre,

No, we don’t have a set duration, so we said to ourselves, as soon as one of us gets fed up,

ben on arrête, pas spécialement, donc on vient de Belgique, pas spécialement pour retourner en Belgique,

Well, we're stopping, not specifically, so we come from Belgium, not specifically to go back to Belgium.

parce que ça risque peut-être d'être dur avec le climat, etc. La réadaptation à mon avis serait compliquée,

because it might be difficult with the climate, etc. Adaptation, in my opinion, would be complicated,

mais pourquoi pas s'arrêter.

but why not stop.

Parce qu'il y a un moment, un endroit qu'on adore, où on se sent bien, pour faire quelque chose d'autre à terre.

Because there is a moment, a place we love, where we feel good, to do something else on the ground.

Donc tant qu'on se sent bien, et pour l'instant on se sent très bien, on espère pouvoir encore faire ça pour de plus longues années.

So as long as we feel good, and for now we feel very good, we hope to be able to do this for many more years.

Et voilà, on a pour but de faire le plus possible le tour du monde, à notre aise, et s'arrêter là où on est bien,

And there you go, our goal is to travel around the world as much as possible, at our own pace, and to stop where we feel good.

et passer plus vite sur les endroits qu'on a moins. Donc voilà, on n'a pas de durée déterminée.

and go through the places we care less about more quickly. So there you go, we don't have a set duration.

Je dois dire que c'est un lucre.

I have to say that it's a profit.

C'est sûr que c'est pas mal, quand on n'est pas bloqué par une date de fin, ça change aussi l'aspect, ça change pas mal de choses.

It's true that it's not bad, when you're not restricted by a deadline, it also changes the aspect, it changes quite a few things.

Et donc, par rapport à l'éducation des enfants, alors comment ça s'est passé jusqu'à maintenant ?

And so, regarding the education of the children, how has it been going so far?

Donc vous avez commencé par vous.

So you started with yourself.

Oui, donc en fait, on a, enfin moi j'ai commencé à leur faire donc l'instruction,

Yes, so actually, we, well I have started to teach them the instruction,

via un système belge qui s'appelle l'EAD, donc c'est l'enseignement à distance.

through a Belgian system called EAD, which is distance learning.

Donc concrètement, c'est un accès à une plateforme sur internet, une plateforme Moodle,

So, concretely, it's access to an online platform, a Moodle platform,

sur laquelle il y a les cours qui correspondent à l'âge de l'enfant.

on which there are classes that correspond to the child's age.

Donc par exemple, pour mon plus grand qui était en CE2, lors du départ, c'était math et français.

So for example, for my oldest who was in CE2, at the start, it was math and French.

Et bon, au fur et à mesure, quand il devient le plus grand,

And well, as time goes by, when he becomes the greatest,

il y a d'autres matières qui se rajoutent.

There are other subjects that are added.

Et pour le petit, il était encore en grande section.

And for the little one, he was still in kindergarten.

Donc là, il n'y a rien pour l'EAD, mais donc on faisait d'autres choses.

So there is nothing for the EAD, but we were doing other things.

Et donc on a fait ça, l'EAD, jusqu'à ce qu'on soit arrivé ici au Cap-Vert mi-mars.

And so we did that, the EAD, until we arrived here in Cape Verde in mid-March.

Et ensuite, quand on est arrivé au Cap-Vert, on s'est décidé pour faire notre instructeur PADI,

And then, when we arrived in Cape Verde, we decided to become PADI instructors.

qui était prévu au mois de juin.

which was scheduled for the month of June.

Et donc on s'est dit, tiens, on va mettre les enfants à l'école tant qu'à faire,

And so we thought, well, let's put the kids in school while we're at it,

parce qu'on a trouvé en fait une chouette école, un peu par hasard,

because we actually found a great school, a bit by chance,

l'école internationale de Salles, qui est une école en français et en portugais,

the International School of Salles, which is a school in French and Portuguese,

mais majoritairement en français.

but mostly in French.

Et donc du coup, en fait, avec le Covid, l'instructeur PADI a été reporté plusieurs fois.

And so, with Covid, the PADI instructor course was postponed several times.

Et donc finalement, ça a été fait en octobre.

And so in the end, it was done in October.

Donc les enfants, ça fait maintenant entre mars et maintenant, en fait, qu'ils sont à l'école.

So kids, it's been between March and now, in fact, that they have been at school.

Au Cap-Vert.

In Cape Verde.

Donc pour l'instant, c'est les deux expériences qu'on a.

So for the moment, these are the two experiences we have.

C'est l'instruction sur le bateau via l'EAD et l'école au Cap-Vert.

It is the instruction on the boat via the EAD and the school in Cape Verde.

Ok, ok.

Okay, okay.

Donc on va d'abord voir un peu par rapport à la période où vous travailliez avec l'EAD.

So first we will look a bit at the period when you were working with the EAD.

Comment se passait plus ou moins une journée normale pour vous ?

How did a typical day go for you?

Ben en fait...

Well actually...

Donc nous, on se levait, on va dire, pas non plus à l'aube, mais vers 8h.

So we would get up, let's say, not exactly at dawn, but around 8 AM.

Et on commençait vers 9h, 9h30 vraiment tranquillement.

And we would start around 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m. really calmly.

Et en général, je dirais qu'on faisait maximum 2h par jour.

And in general, I would say we did a maximum of 2 hours a day.

Entre 1h30 et 2h, on avait fini toute la matière de maths et de français.

Between 1:30 and 2:00, we had finished all the math and French content.

Et puis pour le petit, là, comme je disais, j'avais pas de matière déterminée.

And then for the little one, as I was saying, I didn't have any specific material.

Mais par contre, j'ai pris avec moi toutes les...

But on the other hand, I took with me all the...

tous les outils pédagogiques des alphas pour l'apprentissage de la lecture.

all the pedagogical tools of the alphas for learning to read.

Donc on a commencé à faire un petit peu ça.

So we started doing a little bit of that.

Et puis j'avais aussi quelques livres ou des choses que j'imprimais de Pinterest.

And then I also had some books or things that I printed from Pinterest.

Mais en final, je l'ai laissé très très libre.

But in the end, I let him/her very very free.

Parce que pour moi, c'était déjà pas mal d'investissements.

Because for me, it was already quite a lot of investments.

Surtout que c'était le début avec le grand de faire 2h par jour.

Especially since it was the beginning for the big one to do 2 hours a day.

J'entends des invitations.

I hear invitations.

J'entends des enfants qui font 4h ou 6h par jour.

I hear children who do 4 or 6 hours a day.

Oui, c'est...

Yes, it is...

Voilà, avec le CNED ou...

Here it is, with CNED or...

Mais bon, honnêtement, je trouve que 2h par jour, c'est déjà...

But well, honestly, I think that 2 hours a day is already...

Enfin, c'est déjà très bien.

Finally, it's already very good.

Surtout que c'est concentré maths et français parce qu'on fait plein d'autres choses en dehors.

Especially since it's focused on math and French because we do plenty of other things outside of that.

Et voilà, on n'est pas partis en voyage non plus pour faire tous les jours 6h d'études.

And there you have it, we didn't go on a trip to study 6 hours every day.

Donc bon, ça, c'est un peu notre choix aussi.

So, well, that's a bit of our choice too.

Et comme je disais, c'est aussi un peu le début pour un peu sentir...

And as I was saying, it's also a bit the beginning to feel a little...

Comment ça se passait.

How was it going?

Et ça se passait relativement bien.

And it was going relatively well.

Donc, on a continué comme ça.

So, we kept going like that.

En fait, avec le Hadze, on a un programme.

In fact, with the Hadze, we have a program.

On sait facilement voir si on est en retard ou pas par rapport au programme.

It is easy to see if we are running late or not compared to the schedule.

D'accord.

Okay.

Et donc ça, ça peut rassurer aussi quelque part en se disant

And so that can also be reassuring in a way by saying

c'est bon, on est en ligne ou on est même un petit peu en avance.

It's good, we're online or we're even a little bit early.

Du coup, ça veut dire que quand on va faire la nave,

So, that means that when we're going to do the nave,

traverser par exemple des Canaries vers le Cap Vert,

crossing, for example, from the Canaries to Cape Verde,

on a une semaine où on peut rien...

we have a week where we can't do anything...

On peut ne rien faire.

One can do nothing.

D'ailleurs, avec le Hadze, on n'a pas le choix

Moreover, with the Hadze, we have no choice.

parce qu'on a besoin d'une connexion Internet.

because we need an Internet connection.

Sinon, on ne sait pas travailler.

Otherwise, we don't know how to work.

Donc, ça nous permettait d'être relax pendant les traversées

So, it allowed us to relax during the crossings.

et de se dire là, on ne fait rien

and to say to oneself, there, we are doing nothing

parce qu'on s'est un petit peu avancé avant.

because we got a little ahead of ourselves.

Donc voilà, c'est un bon système qui nous convient bien.

So there you go, it's a good system that suits us well.

Mais en tout cas, avec le Grand, avec le Pli, je n'ai pas encore essayé.

But in any case, with the Grand, with the Pli, I haven't tried yet.

On verra ça d'ici quelques mois.

We'll see about that in a few months.

Mais donc, par contre, tu disais que vous êtes obligé d'être en ligne.

But then, on the other hand, you said that you are required to be online.

Vous ne pouviez pas imprimer, par exemple, certaines...

You could not print, for example, certain...

les exercices en avance ou je ne sais pas,

the exercises in advance or I don’t know,

histoire d'être moins dépendant de l'Internet ?

A story about being less dependent on the Internet?

En fait, ça dépend pour le cours de français.

In fact, it depends on the French class.

Non, tout est vraiment fait en ligne.

No, everything is really done online.

Et donc, quand on fait un chapitre, ensuite, on doit renvoyer des devoirs,

And so, when we complete a chapter, we then have to submit assignments,

soit les scanner et les envoyer via la plateforme

either scan them and send them via the platform

ou bien directement répondre sur la plateforme.

or directly respond on the platform.

Et ensuite, le professeur doit corriger.

And then, the teacher must correct.

Et ensuite, quand le professeur a corrigé,

And then, when the teacher has corrected,

vu que l'élève avait compris, il ouvre le second chapitre.

Since the student had understood, he opens the second chapter.

Et sinon, on ne peut pas faire le chapitre suivant.

And otherwise, we can't do the next chapter.

Donc ça, c'est vrai que pour quelqu'un qui n'a pas de connexion Internet

So that's true for someone who doesn't have an Internet connection.

ou une mauvaise connexion, ce n'est pas du tout le système à prendre.

or a poor connection, this is not the system to choose at all.

Par contre, pour les maths, là, il y avait moyen d'imprimer

On the other hand, for math, there it was possible to print.

ou de télécharger sous forme de PDF les cours d'une semaine.

or to download the week's lessons in PDF format.

Parce que là, il y avait un devoir par semaine.

Because there was one assignment per week.

Et donc là, c'était le devoir de fin de semaine du vendredi.

And so there it was the weekend homework from Friday.

Par exemple, qui débloquait le cours du lundi d'après.

For example, who was unlocking the lesson for the following Monday.

Donc là, c'était un petit peu plus large.

So there, it was a little bit wider.

Donc, il y avait quand même moyen de faire des maths

So, there was still a way to do math.

sans connexion Internet sur une semaine, mais pas le français.

without an Internet connection for a week, but not the French.

Pour les autres cours, je n'ai pas encore l'expérience, donc je ne sais pas.

For the other courses, I don't have the experience yet, so I don't know.

Donc voilà, effectivement, il faut une connexion.

So there you go, indeed, a connection is needed.

Et donc, pareil, il ne travaillait que sur l'ordinateur

And so, similarly, he only worked on the computer.

ou vous imprimiez quand même pour faire une partie sur papier pour changer un peu ?

Or would you print anyway to have a paper version to change things up a bit?

Mais donc ça, les maths, c'était toujours...

But then, math was always...

sous forme de PDF que j'imprimais.

in the form of a PDF that I printed.

Et là, il faisait le devoir écrit à la main.

And there, he was doing the written assignment by hand.

Et ensuite, je le scannais, je le renvoyais.

And then, I scanned it and sent it back.

Et le français, on a le choix.

And in French, we have the choice.

Donc, c'est beaucoup plus interactif.

So, it's much more interactive.

C'est deux cours qui sont faits de manière complètement différente.

These are two courses that are conducted in completely different ways.

Et par contre, là, on avait le choix soit taper à l'ordinateur le devoir,

And on the other hand, we had the choice to either type the assignment on the computer,

soit imprimer, faire le devoir de manière manuscrite

either print it out or do the assignment by hand.

et ensuite le scanner et le renvoyer.

and then scan it and send it back.

Donc là, ça dépendait un petit peu de l'envie.

So it depended a little on the desire.

Ça donne aussi un choix à l'enfant.

It also gives a choice to the child.

Donc, s'il est d'humeur à écrire ou pas, il a le choix.

So, whether he's in the mood to write or not, he has the choice.

Ça, c'est pas mal, je trouve.

That's not bad, I think.

Ok, ok.

Okay, okay.

Et donc, tu disais environ une à deux heures par jour tous les jours de la semaine

And so, you were saying about one to two hours a day every day of the week.

ou vous faisiez une pause le week-end ?

Where were you taking a break on the weekend?

On faisait une pause le week-end.

We took a break on the weekend.

Donc, on faisait du lundi au vendredi.

So, we did from Monday to Friday.

Et samedi, dimanche, on ne faisait rien.

And on Saturday, Sunday, we did nothing.

Ok.

Okay.

C'est un peu comme nous.

It's a bit like us.

On se repose.

We are resting.

Et vous prévoyez des périodes de vacances scolaires un peu comme celles de la Belgique

And are you planning school holiday periods similar to those in Belgium?

ou pas plus que ça ?

or not more than that?

Mais en fait, ça dépend un petit peu.

But actually, it depends a little bit.

En fait, ce qu'on a décidé et qu'on essaye un peu d'arranger,

In fact, what we have decided and are trying to arrange a bit,

c'est que quand il y a des amis qui viennent sur le bateau,

it's that when friends come on the boat,

l'enfant ne doit pas étudier.

The child should not study.

Pour lui, c'est des vacances.

For him, it's a holiday.

Et en général, du coup, ça correspond aux périodes scolaires belges

And generally, that corresponds to the Belgian school periods.

parce que c'est souvent des familles avec enfants qui viennent,

because it is often families with children who come,

mais pas toujours non plus.

but not always either.

Donc, parfois, on ne regarde pas les périodes scolaires belges

So, sometimes, we don’t pay attention to the Belgian school holidays.

et on étudie quand même parce qu'on sait, par exemple, qu'il y a le parrain.

And we still study because we know, for example, that there is the godfather.

Ah oui, c'est ça.

Oh yes, that's it.

On sait, par exemple, qu'il y a le parrain qui va venir hors période scolaire

We know, for example, that the godfather will come during the school holidays.

et qu'on se dit quand le parrain est là, on n'étudie pas.

And one says to oneself when the godfather is here, we don't study.

Donc, du moment que le programme soit fait sur l'année, on est assez cool.

So, as long as the program is completed for the year, we're pretty cool.

Et ici, en plus, ce système fait qu'on est obligé de suivre les chapitres les uns derrière les autres.

And here, on top of that, this system means that we have to follow the chapters one after the other.

Donc, nous, avec le fait qu'on ait mis les enfants ici à l'école au Cap-Vert,

So, we, with the fact that we have enrolled the children here at school in Cape Verde,

c'est un peu compliqué parce que moi, ce que j'ai voulu faire, c'était rattraper quelque part,

It's a bit complicated because what I wanted to do was to catch up somewhere.

en fait, un peu faire une double école.

In fact, it's like doing a double degree.

Donc, l'école du Cap-Vert plus terminée, le AD.

So, the school in Cape Verde is finished, the AD.

Ok.

Okay.

Et bon, ça n'a pas tellement plu à mon grand parce que...

And well, my older child didn't really like it because...

Parce qu'il a beaucoup de travail.

Because he has a lot of work.

Parce qu'il dit, mais moi, je dois faire l'école et en plus, je dois encore étudier pendant les vacances

Because he says, but I have to go to school and on top of that, I still have to study during the holidays.

ou pendant les week-ends.

or during the weekends.

Et du coup, je lui dis, bon, écoute, on va le faire de manière accélérée

And so I said to her, well, listen, we're going to do it in an accelerated manner.

parce qu'en fait, il connaissait toutes les réponses.

because in fact, he knew all the answers.

Donc, en gros, je lui disais, voilà, si tu trouves une réponse sur les 20, je vois que tu as compris.

So basically, I was telling him, look, if you find an answer among the 20, I see that you understood.

C'est bon.

It's good.

Au chapitre suivant.

In the next chapter.

Mais malgré tout, c'était du travail en plus pour lui.

But despite everything, it was extra work for him.

Et donc, du coup, voilà, ici pour la CE1, on n'a pas encore terminé.

And so, well, here for the first grade, we haven't finished yet.

On a terminé les maths, mais pas le français alors qu'il a déjà commencé la CE2 ici au Cap-Vert.

We finished math, but not French even though he has already started CE2 here in Cape Verde.

Mais du coup, j'ai demandé quelle était la matière parce que c'est difficile d'avoir l'aperçu de la matière

But then, I asked what the subject was because it's difficult to get an overview of the material.

quand on n'a pas encore clôturé la matière d'avant.

when we have not yet finished the previous subject.

Donc, j'ai demandé à l'AD quel est le reste de la matière en français pour voir avec sa prof ici,

So, I asked the AD what the rest of the material is in French to check with his teacher here.

s'il l'avait déjà vu.

if he had already seen it.

Et effectivement, il avait déjà tout vu.

And indeed, he had seen it all already.

Donc, on peut clôturer cette partie-là et commencer plus tard l'année suivante.

So, we can close that part and start later the following year.

OK.

OK.

Mais donc, oui, ça va.

But then, yes, it's okay.

Le AD, c'est quand même adapté aussi au fait que vous ayez choisi de re-scolariser temporairement les enfants.

The AD is also adapted to the fact that you have chosen to temporarily re-enroll the children in school.

Oui, oui, tout à fait.

Yes, yes, absolutely.

Mais en fait, eux, c'est juste un service.

But actually, for them, it's just a service.

Il n'y a pas d'obligation.

There is no obligation.

OK.

OK.

C'est-à-dire qu'en fait, en Belgique, pour pouvoir faire l'enseignement à domicile,

That is to say, in Belgium, in order to be able to do homeschooling,

en primaire, donc la primaire, c'est 6 ans à 12 ans, il n'y a aucune condition à avoir.

In elementary school, so elementary school is from 6 to 12 years old, there are no conditions to meet.

Tous les enfants peuvent le faire.

All children can do it.

Il y a juste un test à faire à 8 ans, à 10 ans et puis à 12 ans, ce qui s'appelle le CEB.

There is just one test to take at 8 years old, at 10 years old, and then at 12 years old, which is called the CEB.

Mais on va dire que le gouvernement est très cool par rapport, je veux dire, aux familles comme nous qui voyagent.

But let's say the government is very cool about it, I mean, for families like ours who travel.

C'est pas toujours facile de revenir en Belgique pour faire les tests.

It's not always easy to come back to Belgium to take the tests.

Oui.

Yes.

Et donc, du coup, par exemple, le test de 8 ans, Diego n'a pas dû le faire.

And so, as a result, for example, Diego must not have taken the 8-year test.

Oui.

Yes.

Et celui de 10 ans, on va essayer de ne pas devoir le faire non plus.

And the 10-year one, we'll try not to have to do it either.

Par contre, à 12 ans, ça, il n'y a pas le choix parce que c'est un test obligatoire pour pouvoir passer ensuite à ce que nous, on appelle les secondaires.

On the other hand, at 12 years old, there's no choice because it's a mandatory test in order to then move on to what we call secondary school.

Donc, c'est-à-dire à l'année de ses 13 ans.

So, that is to say, at the age of 13.

Mais par contre, le AD, c'est vraiment, c'est simplement un outil.

But on the other hand, the AD is really, it's simply a tool.

Donc, en fait, eux, ils font ce qu'on leur dit.

So, actually, they do what they're told.

Si on dit, voilà, c'est bon, je considère que mon enfant a acquis la matière et donc je ne veux pas faire les trois derniers modules, on passe à l'année suivante.

If we say, here it is, that's good, I consider that my child has mastered the material and therefore I don't want to complete the last three modules, we move on to the next year.

Ils le feront.

They will do it.

On va vérifier, quoi.

We're going to check, you know.

Donc, c'est deux choses différentes.

So, these are two different things.
