Shape and tanned, we have a big sun, a Corsican sun, so for those who don't know you.
I made a brief introduction before the
Podcast, but the tradition is still a little introduction of what your name is.
where you come from in your family life and your professional life because like the podcast it is
a podcast by regular people, we all have real jobs, we all have family lives, so
Our listeners really like to know a little bit and to visualize and say, well yeah, actually.
I have a very normal life, so at 40 or 48 years old, I was born in Lyon and I still live near Lyon.
Married for, let’s say, twenty-some years, we say hello, well, there you go, no that.
should be 21 22 and 2 children of two great ones Nicolas and Thomas so that leaves me a little bit of
temps pour rouler plus que
time to drive more than
Now, they are almost both flying on their own wings.
A gendarme, a pastry chef, in training, and everything is going well.
Donc voilà, très normal.
So there you go, very normal.
And then I have the job, an electrical company with about ten people.
It takes me a fair amount of time nonetheless.
This question is important because it allows our listeners,
And I still receive a lot of messages from people other than the Fast Club team.
who tell me, in fact, we have a somewhat similar life setup.
Whether on young children, as we have had before,
either with older children who still allow a bit more freedom to be able to ride a bike.
But there you go, it's important, and I think this question is always welcome.
Mon Richard, comment as-tu commencé le vélo ?
My Richard, how did you start cycling?
So, the bike, I think like everyone else.
The truth is, I started it at the end of a career, a pathetic end to a football career.
I ruptured my posterior ligament during a match.
I used to ride bikes when I was a kid, we would do the Tour de France in July with my friends.
And then it was my mode of transportation, like many from my generation.
And then I injured my knee in a match I shouldn't have played.
I stopped everything I was doing before, football, squats, tennis.
Skiing, a little less skiing, but okay.
And then after that, I gained weight, gained weight, gained weight, until my knee locked up on its own.
And the doctor told me, no, no surgery, you need to exercise, ride a bike, buy a bike.
So I bought a bike, I started with mountain biking.
MTB, okay, okay, I'm not daring in the descents.
So I went down the road, and then it took off.
Donc cyclo, le traditionnel.
So, cyclo, the traditional one.
The school, because we are not far from the mountain.
So you started cycling on the competitive side, after all.
Pour maigrir, oui.
To lose weight, yes.
La trentaine, c'était vers quelle époque ça ?
The thirties, what time period was that?
C'était quoi ?
What was it?
Je me suis pété le genou en 96.
I broke my knee in '96.
So there you go, I was in my early 20s.
So afterwards, it was the posterior ligaments at the time.
Pas d'opération postérieure.
No posterior operation.
C'était impossible.
It was impossible.
Donc j'ai toujours, c'est toujours cassé.
So I still have it, it's still broken.
Voilà, donc ça fait longtemps.
Here you go, it's been a while.
It was a match I shouldn't have played.
Pathétique fin de carrière.
Pathetic end of career.
Tant pis.
Too bad.
Donc j'ai visité les urgences.
So I went to the emergency room.
Bon, c'était marrant.
Well, that was funny.
Donc après, direct maigri et compète.
So then, directly slim down and compete.
You didn't go by the walkway, did you?
Non, non, non.
No, no, no.
On a fait l'école, les cyclos.
We did school, the cyclists.
I drove a lot alone at the beginning.
Then later, I signed up for a club.
Et puis voilà.
And there you go.
Après, j'ai fait du triathlon.
After that, I did a triathlon.
Mais comme je nageais comme une brique.
But as I swam like a brick.
Bon, j'ai sauvé l'immeuble quand même.
Well, I saved the building anyway.
I did it in brown because I insisted on finishing the Embrunman.
After three times, I got there or four times.
And then after, the mentality, triathlon, average, average.
Donc ultra et maintenant à fond.
So ultra and now full throttle.
We won't talk for our triathlete friends who listen to the podcast,
who will then grill us, who will tell us
non, mais tu as vu, j'aime bien aller au triathlon.
No, but you see, I really like going to the triathlon.
Le triathlon, c'est la vie.
Triathlon is life.
On salue les triathlètes.
We salute the triathletes.
But I share your opinion because I am not a big fan of practicing triathlon.
J'ai quand même une anecdote.
I do have a story, though.
I found a way to get my battery for the rail-mounted devices stolen in the brown guarded bike park.
Si mon gamin me dit tiens, on va voir ton vélo.
If my kid says to me, hey, let's go see your bike.
I look, there was no battery left.
I forgot his and he had taken mine.
Donc tu as découvert le fixie.
So you discovered the fixie.
Fortunately, I had one in duplicate, but if I don't notice it in the morning, it's too late.
Fortunately, that won't happen on BikingMan.
Non, j'espère.
No, I hope not.
The second natural question is, how did you end up knowing about FastClub?
I knew you were going to ask me the question, but actually...
Oui, logique.
Yes, logical.
Well, I don’t really remember anymore, actually.
Mais je pense qu'on a fait...
But I think we did...
The same year, both of them, the RAF.
I had read your story and I think we vomited in almost the same place.
Et toi, tu as fini.
And you, have you finished?
Moi, je n'ai pas fini.
I haven't finished.
But I think we had exactly the same thing.
And that year, the RAF, it seems to me that I had seen a small group at the beginning that was quite funny.
And then, I still remember that I was on vacation in Narbonne, at my in-laws'.
And I was on my couch scrolling.
And I must have come across a post.
Et j'ai dit, tiens, c'est rigolo.
And I said, look, that's funny.
Et puis, je me suis inscrit direct.
And then, I signed up right away.
And then after, it's true that it took off.
C'est sympa, oui.
It's nice, yes.
At first, it was mainly to be able to compete with someone in Ultra competitions.
Enfin, connaître du monde, quoi.
Finally, meeting people, you know.
Tu as commencé l'Ultra par la RAF, toi ?
Did you start the Ultra with the RAF?
C'était ton ticket d'entrée ?
Was that your ticket for entry?
En fait, j'étais...
In fact, I was...
Yes, the RAF was with Nicolas, my son.
On voulait le faire en duo.
We wanted to do it as a duo.
Et bon, lui, il était rugbyman.
And well, he was a rugby player.
So, he had trained a bit to do that.
Et au final, c'est moi qui ai mervé.
And in the end, it's me who got screwed over.
J'avais tellement peur qu'il mange mal.
I was so afraid that he would eat poorly.
Je lui disais, Nico, mange, mange, mange.
I was telling him, Nico, eat, eat, eat.
C'est moi qui n'ai pas mangé.
It's me who hasn't eaten.
And there, I did exactly like you.
J'ai commencé à prendre des nausées.
I started to feel nauseous.
Me, once I start feeling nauseous, you should know that the next step is the cemetery.
J'ai essayé de vomir.
I tried to vomit.
Je ne suis pas arrivé.
I did not arrive.
J'ai abandonné à 10 kilomètres du sommet.
I gave up 10 kilometers from the summit.
Où c'était fini.
Where it was finished.
Moi, j'ai quand même vomi à Horaison.
I still threw up at Horaison.
Oui, mais pareil.
Yes, but the same.
I believe I had read the account and I found it.
La fontaine d'Horaison.
The fountain of Horaison.
Alors, moi, j'ai dû commencer à avoir les premiers symptômes à Gordes.
So, I must have started to have the first symptoms in Gordes.
Ah oui, après.
Oh yes, afterwards.
On a eu une traversée de sangliers.
We had a crossing of wild boars.
It gave me a boost.
J'ai dit, ça va passer.
I said, it will pass.
Et non, ce n'est pas passé.
And no, it did not happen.
Et puis, pas moyen.
And then, no way.
Enfin, le coup classique.
Finally, the classic move.
Maintenant, ça ne m'arrive plus.
Now, it doesn't happen to me anymore.
Mais voilà.
But there you go.
We also salute the kebab shop in front of the Horaison fountain.
Oui, oui.
Yes, yes.
Moi, je ne pouvais plus manger.
I could no longer eat.
Après, c'était mort.
After that, it was dead.
Moi, non.
Not me.
I just drank a Coke and I vomited the Coke in the fountain.
Donc, introduction par la RAF 300.
So, introduction by the RAF 300.
Intéressant.
Interesting.
Intéressant petit format.
Interesting small format.
In fact, I had seen a report, like many, I think, during the lockdown,
sur le Bikingman.
on the Bikingman.
C'était où ?
Where was it?
À Portugal ?
In Portugal?
Non, non, non.
No, no, no.
En Asie.
In Asia.
Ah.
Ah.
À Taïwan.
In Taiwan.
Taïwan.
Taiwan.
Oui.
Yes.
Et j'avais dit, putain.
And I had said, damn.
Mais incroyable.
But incredible.
Il faut que je fasse ce truc.
I have to do this thing.
Et là, j'ai dit à ma femme, je vais tout acheter.
And then I said to my wife, I'm going to buy everything.
Alors, elle a fait un malaise.
So, she fainted.
Moi, je suis un peu comme toi.
I am a bit like you.
She knows that when I change sports, it's not a good sign.
Donc, j'ai acheté.
So, I bought.
I transformed a bike a little at the beginning.
Puis après, petit à petit.
Then afterwards, little by little.
On va en parler juste après.
We'll talk about it just after.
T'inquiète.
Don't worry.
Donc, c'est parti comme ça.
So, it starts like this.
In fact, that was what I was saying with Max, with Juju.
The first publications on Instagram that actually created a bit of a connection in the beginning.
Et nous, quand on était arrivés.
And we, when we had arrived.
Finally, I was already in Fast Club when we did the RAV300.
And I remember, at the beginning, we had put the revolution.
And I think that the crazy team that was shouting at the beginning, come on baby.
I think Arnaud must remember it.
Nous saluons Arnaud.
We greet Arnaud.
Je sais que tu nous écoutes.
I know that you are listening to us.
Oui, c'est vrai.
Yes, it's true.
Je sais qu'il écoute.
I know that he is listening.
Je sais qu'Arnaud Manzanini nous écoute.
I know that Arnaud Manzanini is listening to us.
Je te salue, Arnaud.
I greet you, Arnaud.
Petit clin d'œil.
Little wink.
Membre Fast Club depuis cette RAV en 2000.
Fast Club member since this RAV in 2000.
C'était avant le confinement.
It was before the lockdown.
C'était avant le Covid.
It was before Covid.
2019.
2019.
Oui, 2019.
Yes, 2019.
Non, non, c'est pas possible.
No, no, it's not possible.
Fast Club was created during the lockdown.
Non, 2021.
No, 2021.
2021.
2021.
Ah, peut-être.
Ah, maybe.
2021.
2021.
Oui, je ne sais pas.
Yes, I don't know.
Oui, 2021.
Yes, 2021.
RAV 2021.
RAV 2021.
And you are the Fast Club member who made the most races in 2022.
Non, ça, je ne savais pas.
No, I didn't know that.
Ah, tu ne le savais pas.
Ah, you didn't know.
Mais moi, je le sais.
But I know it.
You had planned last year to do the Homo Marto in May, the Bikiman Race, the
Marmotte Ultra en juillet.
Marmotte Ultra in July.
The 7 majors in August and the Bikiman Escadi in September.
And finally, you did the big 8 of Ventoux in May.
Exact.
Exact.
You did the Bikiman Corsica, the Marmotte, with Romain, by the way, who was your father.
Et d'ailleurs, lui, il l'a fini.
And by the way, he finished it.
Tu as fait ensuite, à la place des 7 majeurs, tu as fait le Bikiman Vercors 555.
You then did the Bikiman Vercors 555 instead of the 7 majors.
Oui.
Yes.
You did the Bikiman Escadi in September.
You ended up with the Poco Loco from Barcelona, from Montpellier to Barcelona.
À Barcelone.
In Barcelona.
This means, after all, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ultra events throughout the year.
Ce qui est plus que max.
What is more than max.
Et c'est quand même assez important.
And that's still quite important.
Et c'est impressionnant.
And it's impressive.
Donc, bravo.
So, congratulations.
Je tenais à souligner.
I wanted to emphasize.
Je ne me rappelais plus.
I no longer remembered.
Well, after all, there are some that are ultra, but a little bit less ultra anyway.
So, the big 8 is still 8 peaks on the Ventoux.
Oui, c'était plus grand.
Yes, it was bigger.
The roller coasters were awesome because you had to ride at full speed.
So, with a creaky pedal, it's really great to ride with max.
Même sur 100 bornes.
Even on 100 kilometers.
C'est affreux.
It's awful.
Tiens, on parlait de matériel.
Look, we were talking about equipment.
I think it's interesting to develop that part.
Sur quoi roules-tu actuellement ?
What are you currently working on?
I know that I have received several requests from our dear listeners who were telling me,
Here, if you could talk a little about the equipment to know exactly what we are using.
Currently, I am riding the same bike as you, the MR4, which I purchased.
Fin d'année dernière.
End of last year.
Nous saluons Juppé, d'ailleurs.
We salute Juppé, by the way.
Je sais nous écouter.
I know how to listen to us.
Très content de ce vélo.
Very happy with this bike.
Before, I used to ride with the Open, the Wide, even on the road.
But I was limited in development because I was on a single speed.
And then, it's not really a road bike.
C'est du gros gravel.
It's big gravel.
So, the MR4 is now classified as ultra road.
D'accord.
Okay.
Donc, vraiment confort.
So, really comfortable.
J'ai été surpris quand même.
I was surprised nonetheless.
I was told that steel is comfortable.
Mais c'est vrai.
But it's true.
And then afterwards, I have the bikes to show off.
I have a Chipolini NK1K that I have kept.
Et puis, un Fixie.
And then, a Fixie.
I had to part with one or two bikes because people were starting to talk a bit.
J'avais un Canyon.
I had a Canyon.
I had started with a Canyon that I had bought.
C'était un cadre, c'était un In-Flight.
It was a frame, it was an In-Flight.
It was the first, well, it was a cyclo-cross frame.
So, I started having a bit of fun with it by putting the saddlebags on that one.
Then to change, it was a frame to read.
Donc, voilà.
So, here it is.
Donc, quatre vélos essentiellement.
So, four bikes essentially.
I'm riding with the MR4 and the Open right now, set up 100% for gravel.
So, in fact, you have split two categories.
Un Gravel équipé pour la route.
A gravel bike equipped for the road.
Because the MR4 is still a case of Gravel.
Even if you have the same fork as mine, which is a bit narrower.
Mais elle reste Gravel.
But she remains Gravel.
We're not on super rigid carbon bike comforts.
A l'opposé même.
On the contrary.
Et tu as gardé quand même un Open Wide.
And you still kept an Open Wide.
I believe it's the Wide to be able to do big things.
C'est le Wide, oui.
It's the Wide, yes.
The Wide, afterwards, I'm really going to make it ultra Gravel.
Avec les gros pneus, la fourche.
With the big tires, the fork.
Et puis, tout le reste.
And then, everything else.
Mais c'est un super vélo, franchement.
But it's a great bike, honestly.
But hey, I was a bit limited on the road.
Je n'avais pas les bons développements.
I didn't have the right developments.
It's true that you were a bit at a standstill, Backeman Corsica.
I felt that you were at a standstill.
Yes, I was completely out of it, that's true.
Je sentais, je sentais.
I felt, I felt.
Tiens, en parlant de matériel ultra.
Speaking of ultra gear.
Ton matériel indispensable pour une course ultra.
Your essential gear for an ultra race.
What do you always have in your bags?
Déjà, quelles sacoches tu as ?
What bags do you have?
Et comment tu t'équipes ?
And how do you equip yourself?
Alors, je pars l'ultra pour 1000 kilomètres.
So, I'm leaving for the ultra for 1000 kilometers.
Pas sur un ultra de 300 ou tu pars sur du line-up.
Not on a 300 ultra where you start off in a line-up.
Oui, pour 1000 bornes, bien sûr.
Yes, for 1000 miles, of course.
For 1000 miles, now, I have saddlebags of salt.
La Restrap, la grande.
The Restrap, the great.
Super.
Great.
Super sacoche.
Super bag.
And I limit it because for me, anyway, if I put 10 bags, they will be full.
So, a saddlebag for salt, a frame bag, and then a small one on the handlebars.
That's great, 1000 kilometers, no problem.
The advantage of the Restrap is that you can remove the bag, you can put it back, it works well.
And then, afterward, on the frame, I put everything that is battery, a little something to eat.
Et puis, devant, la sacoche.
And then, in front, the bag.
I'm putting in a little bag to carry some food and things like that.
But otherwise, I no longer put a bag on the frame.
It takes up space for me, she wobbles.
And then, it’s mainly that the MR4 frame is smaller and slides.
In terms of equipment, in the bags, what do you have…
We'll talk about race strategy later, but…
L'accessoire que j'emmène…
The accessory that I'm taking...
J'en dis vite.
I'm saying it quickly.
Oui.
Yes.
J'ai l'accès…
I have access...
So, first of all, what I always take everywhere is my puffer jacket.
Voilà.
Here it is.
La doudoune Rafa.
The Rafa puffer jacket.
Je ne parle même pas météo.
I don't even talk about the weather.
That's what I put in first in the bag, in the pouch.
So, I also use it to sleep at night if needed, because I don't bring a sleeping bag.
I won't bring a mattress anymore because in Corsica, that mattress was a fiasco.
Les bancs sont hyper confortables.
The benches are super comfortable.
Yes, but still, the bench, I know one or two guys who had squatted on the bench.
Donc, j'ai quand même dormi par terre.
So, I still slept on the floor.
Rappelle-toi.
Remember.
Premier arrivé, premier servi.
First come, first served.
We still let the locals occupy the benches and then we took what was left.
But still, I paid a fortune for this mattress...
Anyway, either he is exhausted or he's backing out.
Donc, c'est la merde.
So, it's a mess.
So, no more mattress, a bivy, the down jacket, a survival blanket just in case.
And then, as for spare clothes, I don't bring a spare pair of shorts.
J'emmène un sous-maillot, des sous-maillots.
I'm taking a swimsuit, some swimsuits.
And then, I always bring too much food, battery.
Et puis voilà, après le reste…
And then there you go, after that...
Tu as oublié un accessoire indispensable.
You forgot an essential accessory.
Moi, je sais parce que tu me l'as prêté.
I know because you lent it to me.
Ce n'est pas mon rouleau de…
This is not my roll of…
Non.
No.
Les papiers de cuisse.
Thigh papers.
La serviette.
The towel.
Ah oui, la serviette, exact.
Ah yes, the towel, right.
Ouais, qu'est-ce que je suis à ?
Yeah, what am I at?
La toute petite.
The very small one.
But it absorbs well and honestly, that's good.
C'est vrai.
It's true.
Le timbre poste.
The postage stamp.
On which we dried off, I believe, with three people on it.
À trois, ouais.
In threes, yeah.
Exact.
Exactly.
Je ne me rappelais plus.
I no longer remembered.
I bought one, and it is now part of the package.
And I even found the robe that was due.
Bon, je ne l'emmène pas.
Well, I'm not taking him/her.
There, I kept it at work, but very well.
Je te verrais bien avec le peignoir.
I can really see you in the bathrobe.
Avec la capuche.
With the hood.
La capuche.
The hood.
Sortir de la douche.
Get out of the shower.
You shouldn't look in the morning because honestly, when I arrive in the morning, it's weird.
But hey, I'm all alone at the same time.
So, you know that you have a nickname which is the knight of Fast Club.
By the way, that's the title of the podcast, but you haven't listened to the intro or seen the thumbnail yet.
You are henceforth nicknamed the knight of Fast Club.
I know that you have a special training.
Tu roules.
You are driving.
Assez, oui.
Enough, yes.
So, actually, for our listeners who don't know you,
and who don't follow you on Instagram, I advise you, by the way,
You will have a link below the podcast, in the description, to Richard's Instagram address.
Je vous conseille.
I advise you.
Besides, you are going to have an additional million followers.
Oui, non, ce n'est pas le but non plus.
Yes, no, that is not the goal either.
Yes, yes, yes, as long as they are not blonde, we don't care.
Nous savions Florence.
We knew Florence.
Moi, je sais que tu roules.
I know that you are driving.
On sait tous que tu roules énormément.
We all know that you drive a lot.
En fait.
In fact.
De vélo-taf et énormément de nuit.
From bike commuting and a lot at night.
En fait, comment t'entraînes-tu ?
In fact, how do you train?
Voilà.
Here it is.
Quelle est la base de l'entraînement ?
What is the basis of training?
Because each one, we will talk about it later.
I have the 2023 projects in front of my eyes because I wrote them down.
When I see the list of what you plan to do in 2023, and it starts in no time,
comment t'entraînes-tu, mon ami Richard ?
How do you train, my friend Richard?
Because the people on the other end of the podcast are saying, wait, wait,
He did all of that last year.
The guy, behind, thinks to himself, oh, there's a slice of bread.
OK.
OK.
Bon, il fait quoi, le mec ?
Well, what is the guy doing?
All day long, he's at the gym, he's doing Zwift, what is he doing?
Non, non, Zwift, non.
No, no, Zwift, no.
J'ai tout vendu.
I sold everything.
No, I'm training, yeah, I bike a lot for work.
So, in the morning, since I like to work early,
je suis obligé de partir très tôt.
I have to leave very early.
So, I shortened it a bit because it was starting to get tiring.
So, I get up a little later.
Mais le matin, donc, je roule.
But in the morning, I drive.
I ride calmly, usually either on an empty stomach or for a little easy outing.
In the evening, on the way back, though, there, I toughen up.
So, every day, in all weather.
Donc, pluie, glace, neige.
So, rain, ice, snow.
Rappelle-nous les horaires.
Remind us of the schedules.
Au début, c'était plutôt 3h, 3h30.
At first, it was more like 3 hours, 3:30.
Right now, it's more like 4:30 or 5:00, since I'm taking my son to work.
It prevents Flo from getting up a bit too.
Then, it allows me to sleep an extra hour.
Donc, j'ai, depuis le 1er janvier,
So, I have, since January 1st,
It’s the good resolution of early January.
So, I'm rolling a bit later, but it's 5 in the morning.
How many kilometers do you cover in a week?
En fait, tu fais quoi ?
Actually, what are you doing?
Aller-retour au boulot ?
Round trip to work?
In the morning, I still go for the quickest option.
C'est 17 bornes.
It's 17 miles.
And then after, if I manage to leave work a little earlier,
je fais 25 bornes, 20 bornes le retour.
I do 25 kilometers, 20 kilometers on the way back.
Tous les jours ?
Every day?
Voilà, tous les jours.
Here you go, every day.
Bon, ça, c'est...
Well, this is...
En fait, tu bornes.
In fact, you're limiting yourself.
C'est l'entraînement à l'ancienne.
It's old-school training.
There, I hired a coach for 3 months to do some sessions.
Because it's true that it was a bit of a hodgepodge.
It wasn't very effective either.
So there, because I know a little about the basics of training,
But I don't have time to do everything.
So, he's going to help me a little to structure all this.
au moins sur 3 mois.
at least over 3 months.
Puis après, ça va rouler.
Then after that, it will go smoothly.
I saw a PPG pass on Strava.
Yes, I push myself because I am...
Comme Zwift, je suis un peu hyperactif.
Like Zwift, I am a bit hyperactive.
And you put me in a room, a gym, Zwift,
je casse tout au bout de 30 minutes.
I break everything after 30 minutes.
So, even for the PPG, I need to have good podcasts.
and that I am in the right tempo
because it is very, very difficult for me to do that.
Je n'aime pas.
I don't like it.
Mais je vais me forcer un peu.
But I'm going to push myself a little.
Parce qu'on a quand même des douleurs quand on roule autant.
Because we still have pain when we ride that much.
On n'est pas des fureurs.
We are not furies.
So, my knee is stuck, and my shoulder is severely stuck.
So, I think we need to improve all of that.
But you are driving at temperatures that are currently at 0, or even 3 degrees.
Oui, actuellement.
Yes, currently.
At 5 o'clock in the morning or 4 o'clock in the morning.
Dans la neige, puisque actuellement...
In the snow, since currently...
Dans la neige.
In the snow.
Voilà, donc en gravel dans la neige.
There you go, riding gravel in the snow.
Comment tu veux que ça coince pas ?
How do you expect it not to get stuck?
Oui.
Yes.
But it's not the snow that's the most dangerous.
It's freezing rain, and you don't notice it all the time.
Et c'est vrai qu'il y a 2-3 fois...
And it's true that there are 2-3 times...
C'est un peu chaud.
It's a bit hot.
One should not take too many risks either.
But the snow, you manage to grasp the risk.
The freezing rain, I arrived two mornings at work where my bike was encased in ice.
So there, I thought that we need to take it easy in the turns.
Mais ça passe.
But it works.
Ça passe.
It works.
Voilà.
There you go.
Pas de course à pied.
No running.
No, no, running, anyway.
No, since the triathlon, I have never liked running.
J'avais toujours mal.
I was always in pain.
And then, I honestly don't miss it.
My passion has always been football and cycling.
So, I’m letting go of football a bit, but cycling...
Tu es toujours supporter.
You are always a supporter.
And then after, I manage to do long outings on Saturday.
Voilà.
There you go.
Bon.
Good.
So, you will have understood, Richard's secret is to drive at night at 4 a.m., every day, in 0 degrees.
And like that, when he arrives at a BikingMan in Corsica and at night it’s 7 degrees,
The guy is in a t-shirt, while I already have 14 layers on.
Donc, voilà.
So, there you go.
No, no, because I'm still chilly, Pierrot.
Attention.
Attention.
Moi, tu as 14 couches, mais j'en ai 13.
Me, you have 14 layers, but I have 13.
On a les mêmes couches.
We have the same layers.
Oui.
Yes.
En plus, on a les mêmes.
In addition, we have the same.
C'est vrai.
It's true.
L'alimentation.
Nutrition.
I know that you are following a specific diet called the traditional diet.
Voilà.
Here it is.
Non, je déconne.
No, I'm just joking.
Tu manges normalement.
You eat normally.
And I wanted to know, in ultra, precisely, we talked about the first experience on the RAF, where you had gastric issues, like me, and like a lot, a lot, a lot of people.
So, you made a few adjustments to your diet.
What do you think about the ultras?
How do you handle things a little bit now, with experience?
With experience, I quickly realized that I wasn't eating enough.
And whatever I eat, in fact, I can eat anything, but for example, on the RAF, I was waiting, as I am used to riding a bit on an empty stomach in the morning, etc.
So I was waiting too long to eat, and then afterwards, I would eat too much at once, which caused nausea, and the same goes for hydration.
And in fact, the miracle solution for me is to eat every half hour.
D'accord.
Okay.
À peu près.
About.
But not much, but eating all the time, all the time, all the time.
And on the RAF, I was so worried that Nicolas would have a problem, I kept telling him "eat, eat, eat," and in fact, it was me who didn't eat.
I waited for two hours, I drank a Coke.
As for that, the coke is banned, since I realize that it doesn't go down at all.
The Embrunman that I completed while drinking a coke, it almost...
I finished the marathon with a dried apricot, but I shouldn't have drunk Coca-Cola.
And on the RAF, it was about the same, but I said, "I'm going to drink a Coke."
And from the moment I drank the Coke, the nausea came, and it was terrible.
So I think it was too much sugar.
Je limite quand même les sucres.
I still limit sugars.
J'avais été demandé, justement.
I had been asked, actually.
I limit sugar, very, very sweet, I limit.
We stop at the bakery, and then at some bars, now less and less, because we take away three tons, we take away two tons.
And then it costs a fortune, but I found some great bars.
And then we stop at the bakeries, and then that gets the job done, you know.
You can give the names of the bars, we have no restrictions.
These are Brenos bars, made in the Basque Country.
Super qualité.
Super quality.
Well, it didn't give itself, but it's really very, very good.
And then I found some fruit purées, I don't remember the brand, but they were really good too.
Mais Brenos, très bonne barre, franchement.
But Brenos, very good bar, honestly.
Je les ai goûtés.
I tasted them.
Ouais.
Yeah.
Je les ai goûtés.
I tasted them.
J'en ai goûté...
I tasted it...
Les druides, c'est ça, les druides.
The druids, that's right, the druids.
Ouais, exact.
Yeah, exactly.
I have tasted all the commercial bars.
The bars of commerce, Pierrot, all the bars of commerce, I have tasted.
J'ai goûté aussi.
I also tasted it.
I think I have tasted all the bars that were gluten-free.
Ah oui, sans gluten.
Ah yes, gluten-free.
No, no, I don't have that problem.
Non, mais Brenos, excellent.
No, but Brenos, excellent.
Honestly, great product, so I'm going to use this now.
And then after, stop at the bakery, and that’s all good.
Donc plus sur du naturel.
So more about the natural.
Ouais, ouais, ouais.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So actually, for me, all year round, I don't have a diet, but I still pay attention to what I eat.
Enfin, la qualité surtout.
Finally, the quality above all.
So, as soon as you put something more or less chemical in front of me, it's hard to swallow.
Do you have the same problem as many people in ultra?
So, there are some who have stomachs that are real blenders.
Notably, I remember that it was Laurent Boursette who was able, during a 1000 km race, on a BikingMan, to eat 40 gels.
Not sleeping, eating 40 gels and 2 Red Bulls.
Non.
No.
I am on the verge of reactive hypoglycemia and everything you want in the recovery position after 2 gels.
So, I know that there are many ultra runners who struggle to consume bars continuously.
En quantité et en continu.
In quantity and continuously.
That is to say, exceeding 2-3 bars in the morning is already quite impressive.
Et toi, tu arrives à gérer.
And you, are you managing?
Après, tu pars de boulangerie.
Afterwards, you leave the bakery.
Est-ce que, du coup, c'est plus...
So, is it more...
Du salé, pizza, sandwich, saucisson, oeufs brouillés, puisqu'on a mangé...
Savory, pizza, sandwich, sausage, scrambled eggs, since we ate...
Oeufs brouillés, oui.
Scrambled eggs, yes.
On a fait des beaux petits déj.
We had some lovely little breakfasts.
Calvi.
Calvi.
Non, oui, c'est Calvi.
No, yes, it's Calvi.
Calvi.
Calvi.
Et à Tons aussi.
And to Tons too.
Oui.
Yes.
Non, non, oui, après, je fais...
No, no, yes, later, I'll do...
Bars, anyway, now we need to stop trying to bring bars on an Ultra.
Since, in any case, it has to be at a survival ration.
Because afterwards, with your pockets full, it weighs 20 kilos, you can't take it anymore.
So, the bakeries are doing very well.
And then, for me, a bakery or pastry shop, there you go.
Donc, salé, sucré, pas d'importance.
So, salty, sweet, it doesn't matter.
Ça dépend des moments de la journée.
It depends on the times of the day.
But, yeah, the natural look works very, very well.
Honestly, guys who rely on gel and Red Bull, good for them if they succeed.
Well, good, I'm not sure.
But no, for me, that's not possible.
Le Red Bull, je n'en ai jamais vu de ma vie.
I've never seen a Red Bull in my life.
Un demi, j'ai dû boire une fois.
I had to drink a half once.
Les gels, c'est pareil.
Gels are the same.
So, afterwards, it can help you if you are really in hypo, hypoglycemia, you take a gel.
Mais non, non, non.
But no, no, no.
Boulangerie.
Bakery.
You don't react to the gel like you did with the coke.
Yes, you still consume less gel.
Le coca, j'en avais bu deux.
I had drunk two cokes.
C'est vrai que je sens que, moi, par contre, s'il y a trop de sucre, je sens qu'au bout d'un moment, ça coince.
It's true that I feel that, for me, on the other hand, if there is too much sugar, I feel that after a while, it gets stuck.
So, that's why in bakeries, it's true that pizza, croque-monsieur, all that,
ça va super bien.
It's going very well.
Voilà.
Here it is.
C'est devenu l'horreur des ultras.
It has become the horror of the ultras.
Ah ben, c'est sûr, oui.
Oh well, that's for sure, yes.
But knowing that, since when we talk about nutrition, since I've been doing ultra,
For me, there was something, it was terrible, it completely messed me up, completely, completely, completely.
There, it's better at the moment, but I wake up at night.
And in fact, since we eat at all hours, I'm hungry all the time.
So, it's gotten a little better in the last two or three months.
But it's true that I noticed that, the ultra, it really messed me up.
Ça m'a réglé l'alimentation, moi.
It adjusted my diet for me.
Ah oui.
Oh yes.
C'est bizarre.
That's weird.
I manage to get up at midnight, two in the morning, one o'clock, and I eat.
I haven't necessarily lost weight since I've been doing ultra, but it has been a problem.
There, it's a bit better, but it has been a problem.
Je ne savais pas ça, tu vois.
I didn't know that, you see.
So, I know that the body takes a hit in fatigue.
En plus, toi, tu les as enchaînés.
Besides, you chained them up.
Donc, tu…
So, you...
Oui.
Yes.
Tu as la…
You have the…
Following an ultra, you experience a physiological phenomenon called supercompensation.
The body took such a shock because we consumed about 8000 calories a day.
Oui, c'est ça, 8.
Yes, that's right, 8.
So, when you reach the end of an ultra, during recovery, the body will seek a bit and will tell you, hey, go ahead, if you keep giving me things like you did there, you need to feed me.
Donc, moi, je sais que je l'ai.
So, I know that I have it.
I discussed it with many people.
Everyone has those appetite crises.
Ça s'appelle la surcompensation.
It's called supercompensation.
En gros, tu fracasses le frigo.
Basically, you smash the fridge.
Tu l'ouvres et tu marches directement dedans.
You open it and walk straight in.
Oui, c'est à peu près ça.
Yes, that's pretty much it.
Regarding sleep, we reach states of fatigue that are so significant that eventually, after a few days, it gets better.
But it's strange that you kept it.
Then, you still get up much, much earlier, aside from the people who work the 3-8 shift.
Oui.
Yes.
Donc, c'est ça.
So, that's it.
C'est ça.
That's it.
Oui, c'est ça.
Yes, that's it.
After that, there will really be anger.
Oui.
Yes.
Ah oui.
Oh yes.
C'est ça le sucre.
That's the sugar.
Ça c'est ça.
That's it.
ça, ça c'est ça.
That, that is that.
C'est ça.
That's it.
C'est ça ?
Is that it?
Oui, c'est ça.
Yes, that's it.
OK.
OK.
Oui, d'accord.
Yes, okay.
Qu'est ce qui a bien changé ?
What has really changed?
май.
Maybe, this is what makes the soul of the man.
?
?
Je ne sais pas.
I don't know.
I don't know what alcohol rules he has.
But allow me to get back to what I was doing.
limite.
limit. But it's true that I limit sugar. I have a problem.
avec le sucre. Avec un
with sugar. With a
gamin pâtissier, voilà.
pastry kid, there you go.
But chocolate, for me, if you put me in a pastry shop, chocolate,
je la dévalise.
I rob her.
Je ne m'arrête jamais.
I never stop.
Tu n'as pas essayé de régimes
You didn't try diets.
spécifiques, toi, type
specific, you, type
low carb ou c'est tout ?
Low carb or that's it?
It's not that I'm trying diets. I'm still trying though.
moi, ce problème du sucre, j'aimerais
Me, this problem of sugar, I would like
set it. Because it's mainly for life
de tous les jours.
of all the days.
Par contre, j'en suis à...
On the other hand, I'm at...
Voilà, il faut supprimer
Here, it needs to be deleted.
l'achat du chocolat. Parce que s'il est
the purchase of chocolate. Because if it is
In the house, I know that Flo is going to hide it.
peut-être sur le toit,
maybe on the roof,
dans les combles. Mais je vais le trouver.
in the attic. But I will find it.
Donc, c'est un problème.
So, it’s a problem.
So there, yeah, we can say that I'm trying anyway.
un régime low carb. Le reste, non.
a low carb diet. The rest, no.
Pourtant,
However,
sur un certain
on a certain
BikingMan Corsica,
BikingMan Corsica,
tu avais la possibilité d'avoir
you had the possibility to have
accès à un pot de Nutella.
access to a jar of Nutella.
Oui, c'est vrai.
Yes, it's true.
Qui était à proximité.
Who was nearby?
C'était pas loin.
It wasn't far.
Avec des madeleines, tout.
With madeleines, everything.
I never buy Nutella because
je sais comment ça fait.
I know how it feels.
So, I replaced it with peanut butter, actually.
Une cuillère toutes les 20 minutes.
One spoon every 20 minutes.
Ah ouais, ouais.
Oh yeah, yeah.
Dans la montée du col.
In the ascent of the pass.
C'est le régime Piero.
It's the Piero diet.
C'était Portugal.
It was Portugal.
Ça finit aussi en Corse.
It also ends in Corsica.
Bon, après, si ça marche. Boursette, il tourne au gel.
Well, if it works. Boursette is running on gel.
Piero, Nutella, c'est pas plus choquant.
Piero, Nutella, it's not more shocking.
Ah, mon Richard,
Ah, my Richard,
les projets 2023
the 2023 projects
et plus, parce que je sais qu'on en a un en commun
and more, because I know we have one in common
en plus.
in addition.
Ouais, celui-là, franchement,
Yeah, that one, honestly,
2023,
2023,
tu l'as dit, ça va être encore bien chargé.
You said it, it's going to be quite busy again.
Ça commence par le Portugal.
It starts with Portugal.
Avant, il y a le week-end à Géronne.
Before, there is the weekend in Géronne.
Oui, week-end à Géronne.
Yes, weekend in Géronne.
Donc, il y a un week-end à Géronne
So, there is a weekend in Girona.
en Espagne qui va être un week-end
in Spain which is going to be a weekend
mi-route, mi-gravel avec Fast Club
half-road, half-gravel with Fast Club
qui est fin,
who is thin,
février.
February.
Fin février, 24-25, je crois.
End of February, 24-25, I believe.
Ensuite, tu as
Next, you have
BikingMan Portugal.
BikingMan Portugal.
Avant, je vais essayer
First, I will try.
to go make a trail in the Vosges.
Mais là, tout seul.
But there, all alone.
Comment ça, le nom ?
What do you mean, the name?
La route des Sagars.
The road of the Sagars.
C'est une trace qui fait
It's a mark that makes
all the schools in the Vosges, 300 and a few kilometers.
Je crois, avec pas mal de dénivelé
I believe there is quite a bit of elevation.
en prépa du Portugal.
in preparation for Portugal.
Et puis après, on commence
And then after, we start.
par BikingMan Portugal.
by BikingMan Portugal.
1000 km et je crois qu'il y a 12500.
1000 km and I think there are 12500.
Oui, c'est ça.
Yes, that's it.
Donc là, j'aimerais bien faire un truc
So, I'd like to do something there.
parce que c'est un parcours
because it's a journey
qui me convient bien, je pense.
that suits me well, I think.
Il n'y a pas trop de...
There aren't too many...
So, the elevation change doesn't scare me,
mais c'est les pentes, moi.
But it's the slopes for me.
Quand ça passe au-dessus de 7%,
When it goes above 7%,
c'est plus dur pour moi.
It's harder for me.
So, you have very few of them in Portugal.
Voilà.
Here it is.
Bon, par contre, après,
Well, on the other hand, afterwards,
on va se mettre sur les prolongateurs
We are going to put on the extensions.
avec le vent, peut-être.
with the wind, perhaps.
Mais bon, ça, ça ne me gêne pas trop.
But, well, that doesn't bother me too much.
Non, pas de prolongateur.
No, no extension.
Si, Portugal, prolongateur.
Yes, Portugal, extender.
Je ne suis pas fan du prolongateur,
I'm not a fan of the extender.
mais bon, Clément m'a dit prolongateur,
but well, Clément told me extender,
je pense qu'il a raison.
I think he is right.
Voilà.
Here it is.
Et puis après,
And then after,
I believe it's the Ultra Arverne.
Alors après, en juin,
So then, in June,
tu as l'Ultra Arverne.
You have the Ultra Arverne.
Arverne, pardon.
Arverne, excuse me.
780 km, 14500 de dénivelé
780 km, 14,500 meters of elevation gain
en moins de 82 heures
in less than 82 hours
sur les monts d'Auvergne
on the mountains of Auvergne
et de Puy-de-Dôme.
and of Puy-de-Dôme.
Ça, c'est chez toi.
This is your home.
C'est pas loin, c'est pour ça.
It's not far, that's why.
C'est un week-end pour toi,
It's a weekend for you,
deux jours.
two days.
Je ne sais pas quand même.
I don't know still.
Is there a Lanceman Riding too, Burgundy?
Je voulais essayer ça.
I wanted to try that.
Je n'ai pas, c'est là.
I don't have it, it's there.
It is not graded, but I wanted to give it a try.
Ça a l'air rigolo, on va voir.
It looks fun, we’ll see.
C'est au mois de juin,
It's in the month of June,
I believe, I don't really remember the date anymore.
So, it's not far from home.
Et puis, le truc me plaisait bien.
And then, I quite liked the thing.
Je voulais voir ce que c'était.
I wanted to see what it was.
C'est un truc de fou.
It's crazy.
Oui, il paraît.
Yes, it seems so.
Après, on verra.
After, we will see.
De toute façon,
Anyway,
je crois que le principe,
I believe that the principle,
c'est une boucle de 20 kilomètres.
It's a 20-kilometer loop.
Et puis, le dernier,
And then, the last one,
tu as une heure pour le faire.
You have one hour to do it.
And the last one who is not standing,
because it comes from running, actually.
They did the same thing in running.
Donc, on va essayer ça.
So, we're going to try that.
You are eliminated if you don't finish in an hour.
Si tu boucles en une heure, oui.
If you finish in an hour, yes.
Finally, if you don't wrap it up in an hour,
tu es éliminé.
You are eliminated.
D'accord.
Alright.
Ou si tu stoppes,
Or if you stop,
parce que tu es cramé.
because you are burnt out.
So that means that if you are the last,
You still do a 20-kilometer loop.
Voilà, il me semble.
There it is, it seems to me.
Donc, ça, on va essayer ça.
So, we're going to try that.
On verra.
We'll see.
Well, this is just to see how it goes.
Après, tu vois,
After, you see,
en août,
in August,
là, c'est un gros morceau.
There, that's a big piece.
C'est une nouvelle course
It's a new race.
qui s'appelle Les Géants,
called The Giants,
qui est organisée par Machi,
which is organized by Machi,
de notre ami Bertrand.
from our friend Bertrand.
Bertrand, oui.
Bertrand, yes.
Bertrand Berger,
Bertrand Berger,
qui a fait l'intégralité des bikes.
Who made all the bikes?
L'intégralité, oui.
The entirety, yes.
Oui, oui, respect.
Yes, yes, respect.
Le premier,
The first,
le seul à l'avoir fait,
the only one to have done it,
l'intégralité de tous les Bikiman.
the entirety of all the Bikiman.
Donc, Les Géants,
So, The Giants,
c'est 1 000 kilomètres,
it's 1,000 kilometers,
26 000 de dénivelé,
26,000 meters of elevation gain,
120 heures.
120 hours.
Donc, c'est le format Bikiman.
So, this is the Bikiman format.
Sur les grands cols des Alpes,
On the high passes of the Alps,
avec un départ d'Annecy,
with a departure from Annecy,
arrivé sur Annecy.
arrived in Annecy.
Et là, tu vas te taper
And there, you're going to get beaten up.
tous les mastodontes
all the mastodons
des Alpes,
of the Alps,
des Hautes-Alpes.
from the Hautes-Alpes.
Donc, Télégraphe.
So, Telegraph.
Oui, Hautes-Alpes,
Yes, Hautes-Alpes,
je connais bien Télégraphe,
I know Télégraphe well,
Yalibé, c'est mes cols, ça.
Yalibé, those are my collars.
Et après, il y a la Finestrée.
And then, there is the Finestrée.
On a vu avec Clément
We talked with Clément.
une partie des gravels,
a part of the gravel,
je pensais qu'elle était
I thought she was.
plus courte que ça.
shorter than that.
Et au final,
And in the end,
je crois que c'est presque 8 bornes.
I think it's almost 8 kilometers.
Donc là, je sens que
So right now, I feel that
je vais m'énerver
I'm going to get angry.
parce qu'il y a
because there is
une forte possibilité
a strong possibility
de crevaison.
of flat tire.
Donc, on verra.
So, we'll see.
Mais c'est un col très,
But it is a very pass,
très, très dur.
very, very hard.
La Finestrée, oui.
The Finestrée, yes.
Comment tu vas gérer,
How are you going to handle it,
justement,
precisely,
la partie sommeil
the sleep part
sur ce type
on this type
d'épreuves ?
of trials?
Parce que sur le Portugal,
Because about Portugal,
c'est relativement facile.
It's relatively easy.
Enfin, attention,
Finally, attention,
je dis facile,
I say easy,
entre guillemets.
in quotation marks.
Il n'y a aucun bac
There is no bin.
qui m'aille facile.
who is easy for me.
Je pense que
I think that
les géants
the giants
sont à un très,
are at a very,
très, très gros niveau.
very, very high level.
Mais on a moins
But we have less.
de facilité
of ease
de pouvoir
to be able to
se poser
to settle down
sur des cols.
on passes.
Parce que si tu es
Because if you are
au milieu d'un col,
in the middle of a pass,
tu es bloqué.
you are stuck.
En haut, je pense
Up top, I think.
que même au mois d'août,
that even in August,
il va faire froid.
It is going to be cold.
En haut, oui.
At the top, yes.
C'est les températures
It's the temperatures.
qui vont être...
who are going to be...
Surtout sur ces cols-là.
Especially on those passes.
De toute façon,
Anyway,
j'ai prévu de passer
I plan to spend
les cols de jour
the daytime collars
sur ces cols-là.
on those passes.
D'accord.
Okay.
La Finestrée de nuit,
The Night Window,
c'est de la folie.
It's madness.
La descente est hyper dure.
The descent is very tough.
Donc ça, justement,
So that, precisely,
ça va être...
It's going to be...
On ne pourra pas tous
We won't all be able to.
les passer de nuit
spend the night.
vu 22 jours,
seen 22 days ago,
vu le nombre
given the number
de cols qu'il y a.
of passes that there are.
Il y a quelques cols
There are a few passes.
que je m'interdis
that I forbid myself
de passer de nuit.
to spend the night.
Donc ça va rythmer
So it will set the pace.
un peu le sommeil
a little sleep
comme ça.
like that.
D'accord.
Okay.
Stratégie.
Strategy.
OK.
OK.
Mais bon,
But well,
la Finestrée,
the Finestrée,
va voir,
go see,
tu verras.
you will see.
Il est dans les 7 majeurs,
He is in the top 7.
je crois.
I believe.
Oui.
Yes.
Il est dans les 7 majeurs.
He is in the top 7.
Mais nous,
But we,
on va le faire
We're going to do it.
dans l'autre sens.
the other way around.
Moi,
Me,
j'ai regardé le parcours,
I looked at the course,
c'est costaud.
It's tough.
Enfin,
Finally,
c'est un truc d'abarjo.
It's a thing of a whippersnapper.
En fait,
In fact,
ils sont allés chercher
they went to get
tous les...
every...
Alors,
So,
ça ressemblait un peu
It looked a bit like.
à l'Homo Marto,
to Homo Marto,
mais c'est encore plus violent
but it's even more violent
que l'Homo Marto
that the Homo Marto
parce que l'Homo Marto
because the Homo Marto
fait 370,
makes 370,
je crois,
I believe,
un truc comme ça.
something like that.
Oui,
Yes,
c'est ça,
that's it,
370.
370.
Et c'est en moins
And it's less.
de 24 heures.
of 24 hours.
Là,
There,
c'est 1000 kilomètres.
It's 1000 kilometers.
Donc,
So,
c'est 3 fois plus.
It's three times more.
Enfin,
Finally,
2 fois 10.
2 times 10.
2,5 plus.
2.5 more.
Donc,
So,
après,
after,
tu ne vas pas t'arrêter là
You're not going to stop there.
puisque,
since,
après les géants
after the giants
qui portent bien leur nom,
who live up to their name,
tu vas faire
you are going to do
une petite balade de santé
a little leisurely walk
qui s'appelle
whose name is
les Grands Huit Citadelles.
the Great Eight Citadels.
Citadelles.
Citadels.
Ça,
That,
c'est en septembre.
It's in September.
Donc,
So,
370 kilomètres
370 kilometers
sur 5500
on 5500
dans l'aube
in the dawn
à Limoux.
in Limoux.
Oui,
Yes,
c'est à côté
it's next to
du truc
the thing
de mes beaux-parents.
from my in-laws.
Je vais en profiter
I am going to take advantage of it.
pour qu'ils aient
so that they have
un petit week-end.
a little weekend.
Et puis,
And then,
voilà.
here you go.
Et on finit l'année
And we end the year.
avec,
with,
le clou du spectacle.
the highlight of the show.
Là,
There,
ça va être
it's going to be
le clou du spectacle.
the highlight of the show.
Sérieux.
Serious.
Le Maroc.
Morocco.
Le Bikiman X.
The Bikiman X.
Maroc
Morocco
avec
with
un parcours secret.
a secret path.
Le Bikiman X,
The Bikiman X,
c'est en fait
it's actually
un Bikiman,
a Bikiman,
pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas,
for those who do not know,
qui est réservé
who is reserved
aux finishers.
to the finishers.
Donc,
So,
il faut avoir
one must have
déjà réalisé
already done
un Bikiman
a Bikiman
en finish
in finish
pour pouvoir
in order to
s'inscrire.
to register.
Pas forcément
Not necessarily.
de l'année.
of the year.
C'est un Bikiman
It's a Bikiman.
tout confondu.
all included.
Le parcours
The journey
est
is
sorti
exited
secré.
secret.
Nous avons
We have
simplement
simply
le lieu de départ.
the starting point.
L'année dernière,
Last year,
c'était justement
it was just
Annecy.
Annecy.
Cette année,
This year,
Axel a prévu
Axel has planned.
de le faire
to do it
au Maroc
in Morocco
avec la traversée
with the crossing
de l'Atlas.
of the Atlas.
Et je sais
And I know
que ça va
how's it going
nous permettre,
allow us,
je dis nous,
I say we,
parce qu'on a ce rêve
because we have this dream
tous les deux,
both of us,
de pouvoir faire
to be able to do
l'Atlas Mountain Race
the Atlas Mountain Race
l'année prochaine,
next year,
en 2024.
in 2024.
2024.
2024.
Donc là,
So there,
par contre,
on the other hand,
c'est...
it's...
Alors,
So,
est-ce que ça,
is this,
ça sera Gravel,
It will be Gravel,
Gravel ?
Gravel?
Est-ce que ça sera
Will it be
mixte ?
mixed?
On ne sait pas.
We don't know.
En tout cas,
In any case,
je sais que l'Atlas Mountain Race
I know that the Atlas Mountain Race
qui est actuellement
who is currently
en cours,
in progress,
je crois que ça démarre
I think it’s starting.
dans une semaine.
in a week.
Oui, je crois que j'ai vu
Yes, I believe I have seen.
passer un truc.
pass something.
Oui, c'est ce...
Yes, that is...
Je crois que c'est
I believe that it is
la semaine prochaine.
next week.
Là, par contre,
There, on the other hand,
c'est tout terrain.
it's all-terrain.
Non, c'est vrai.
No, that's true.
J'ai eu la confirmation
I have received confirmation.
l'année dernière.
last year.
C'est plus que tout terrain.
It's more than just rough terrain.
Oui, je sais.
Yes, I know.
Donc, c'est CVTT.
So, it's CVTT.
Il va falloir acheter
We will have to buy.
un nouveau vélo.
a new bike.
Oui.
Yes.
Ça, on peut peut-être
That, we might be able to.
en parler tout de suite.
talk about it right away.
Non.
No.
Oui, un gros salut.
Yes, a big hello.
Ça fait quand même
It still makes
un sacré programme
one hell of a program
pour 2023.
for 2023.
Oui, oui, c'est solide.
Yes, yes, it's solid.
Après, le Maroc,
After, Morocco,
on va faire ça.
We're going to do that.
Il y a déjà une belle équipe
There is already a great team.
d'inscrits, je crois,
registered, I believe,
je l'ai vu.
I saw him.
La moitié de Fast Club.
Half of Fast Club.
Oui.
Yes.
Donc, je pense que ça va être
So, I think it's going to be
une belle paire de rigolades
a lovely pair of laughs
quand même.
anyway.
Donc, on va faire...
So, we are going to do...
Moi, enfin,
Me, finally,
le Maroc,
Morocco
j'ai quand même prévu
I still have planned.
de prendre mon temps
to take my time
parce qu'on va traverser ça
because we are going to get through this
comme un bolide.
like a rocket.
De toute façon,
Anyway,
ça doit être compliqué,
It must be complicated,
mais on va quand même profiter.
But we are still going to enjoy.
Moi, c'est mon rêve
For me, it's my dream.
d'aller faire du vélo là-bas.
to go cycling over there.
Franchement,
Frankly,
avec une trace aux Etats-Unis
with a trace in the United States
et puis le Rwanda
and then Rwanda
que je regarde de plus en plus.
that I watch more and more.
Qui est actuellement
Who is currently
d'ailleurs aussi.
besides that too.
Oui.
Yes.
Mais c'est vraiment un pays
But it really is a country.
qui...
who...
J'aimerais bien aller faire
I would like to go do.
du vélo là-bas,
biking over there,
mais ça reste quand même l'Afrique.
but it's still Africa after all.
C'est un peu plus engageant.
It's a bit more engaging.
Donc, le Maroc,
So, Morocco,
je pense que c'est bien.
I think it's good.
Alors, le Rwanda,
So, Rwanda,
qui est la Race Around Rwanda,
who is the Race Around Rwanda,
qui se déroule,
which takes place,
je crois que c'est début février,
I believe it's early February.
fin janvier, début février,
late January, early February,
tous les jours.
every day.
Fin janvier, début février aussi.
Late January, early February too.
1000 kilomètres autour du Rwanda.
1000 kilometers around Rwanda.
C'est une course
It's a race.
qui commence déjà...
who is already starting...
Enfin, qui commence
Finally, who starts?
maintenant à drainer
now to drain
des tops coureurs.
top runners.
Moi, je vois passer des noms
I see names passing by.
sur des personnes
about people
qui sont sur des hauts classiques.
who are on high classics.
Et qui font que ça.
And who do that.
Des pros.
Pros.
Notamment des pros,
Notably professionals,
si on peut appeler des pros
if we can call in professionals
en ultra distance.
in ultra distance.
Notamment,
Notably,
Lael Willicox,
Lael Willicox,
qui était cette année.
who was this year.
Enfin, qui est maintenant cette année.
Finally, who is now this year?
Que tout le monde connaît
That everyone knows.
dans le monde de l'ultra.
in the world of ultra.
Nous, on se contente
We are satisfied.
à des courses
to errands
qui sont un petit peu
who are a little bit
plus accessibles.
more accessible.
Je sais que...
I know that...
Je vais poser la question
I am going to ask the question.
à Julien Marty.
to Julien Marty.
Comment tu vois, toi,
How do you see it, you,
l'évolution de l'ultra ?
the evolution of ultra?
Tu en as quand même fait
You still did it.
maintenant quelques-uns.
now some.
Comment tu vois ça ?
How do you see that?
Oui, j'ai écouté le dernier.
Yes, I listened to the latest one.
Je pense qu'il a raison.
I think he is right.
Il y a énormément de courses.
There are a lot of races.
C'est un peu la course
It's a bit of a rush.
à l'organisation.
to the organization.
Et je pense qu'il va y avoir
And I think there is going to be
un côté avec des...
one side with...
Quasi des professionnels.
Almost professionals.
Et puis, des organisations
And then, organizations
qui vont quand même disparaître.
who will still disappear.
Parce que, franchement,
Because, frankly,
quand tu vois maintenant
when you see now
sur les réseaux,
on social media,
il faut s'inscrire
You need to register.
le 25 décembre
December 25th
pour une course
for a race
qui va être loin.
who is going to be far away.
Les inscriptions,
The registrations,
je vois que ça se bouscule
I see that it's getting crowded.
pour te dire
to tell you
réduction avant
reduction before
telle date,
such date,
telle date.
such date.
Donc, l'ultra,
So, the ultra,
il y en aura toujours.
There will always be some.
Mais il y aura,
But there will be,
je pense,
I think,
un circuit
a circuit
quasi pro
quasi pro
et puis un autre circuit
and then another circuit
où je suis assez d'accord
where I quite agree
sur cette analyse.
on this analysis.
Amateur ?
Amateur?
Pas amateur,
Not an amateur,
mais plus grand public.
but a larger audience.
Tu penses, toi,
Do you think, you,
qu'il va y avoir
that there will be
une professionnalisation
a professionalization
de l'ultra
of the ultra
même si...
even if...
Enfin, moi, je vois.
Finally, I see.
Aujourd'hui,
Today,
il y a deux coureurs
There are two runners.
d'Education First
of Education First
qui s'engagent
who commit
dans des courses ultra.
in ultra races.
C'est
It is
Mitch Bowen
Mitch Bowen
qui, là,
who, there,
est sorti du circuit pro
has exited the professional circuit
cyclisme Tour de France
cycling Tour de France
et qui fait des courses ultra.
and who does ultra shopping.
Et la clan Morton
And the Morton clan
qui avait lancé
who had launched
l'année dernière
last year
le Tour de France Alternative
the Alternative Tour de France
et qui, lui aussi,
and who, too,
s'engage de plus en plus
commits more and more
sur des courses,
on races,
alors surtout aux US,
so especially in the US,
mais sur des grosses courses ultra.
but on big ultra races.
Moi, ça me fait rire.
It makes me laugh.
Après, je donne juste
After, I just give.
mon avis personnel,
my personal opinion,
mais ça me ferait chier
but it would annoy me
de voir une professionnalisation
to see a professionalization
de l'ultra.
of the ultra.
Il faut que ça reste bon enfant.
It has to remain good-natured.
Oui, c'est sûr.
Yes, that's for sure.
Après, de toute façon,
After, anyway,
la professionnalisation,
professionalization,
ça sera conditionné
it will be packaged
au fait
by the way
qu'il y ait des remises de...
that there be discounts on...
Enfin, qu'il y ait des prix,
Finally, let there be prizes,
clairement.
clearly.
Si quelqu'un gagne sa vie
If someone earns a living.
correctement en faisant de l'ultra,
correctly by doing ultra,
il y aura de plus en plus de pros.
There will be more and more professionals.
Parce que là, pour le moment,
Because right now,
tu gagnes une ARAF,
you win an ARAF,
tu gagnes un vélo.
You win a bicycle.
Même pas.
Not even.
Donc, c'est pour ça
So, that's why.
que ça limite.
That it limits.
Après, les mecs,
After, guys,
ils font via les réseaux,
they do it through social networks,
ils arrivent à en vivre.
They manage to make a living from it.
Voilà.
Here it is.
Gagner une médaille,
Winning a medal,
ça limite
it limits
le niveau professionnel,
the professional level,
c'est sûr.
It's certain.
Mais je trouve
But I find
beaucoup trop de...
way too much...
Quand même,
Nonetheless,
depuis deux ans,
for two years,
il y a beaucoup trop de courses,
there are way too many races,
je trouve.
I find.
L'offre,
The offer,
elle est vraiment
she is really
pléthorique.
plethoric.
Après, je pense
After, I think.
qu'il y en a
that there is
qui vont disparaître.
who will disappear.
Clairement,
Clearly,
des organisations
organizations
à 50 ou 60 participants,
with 50 or 60 participants,
ça devient chaud.
It's getting hot.
D'ailleurs,
Moreover,
à Bikingman,
to Bikingman,
il y en a
there are some
qui ont du mal
who have difficulty
à remplir quand même.
to fill out anyway.
La Corse, c'est plein,
Corsica is full.
mais il y en a d'autres,
but there are others,
c'est plus long.
it's longer.
C'est normal,
It's normal,
vu la concurrence.
given the competition.
Ça va être compliqué,
It's going to be complicated.
Je pense.
I think.
Il y a un gros problème
There is a big problem.
de planning.
of planning.
Voilà.
There you go.
De toute façon,
Anyway,
après, ça resserre
after, it tightens
sur juin, juillet,
on June, July
août, septembre.
August, September.
Mais après,
But after,
les destinations étrangères,
foreign destinations,
je pense que ça va...
I think it's going to be okay...
Moi, je vois plutôt
I see rather
se développer à l'étranger.
expand abroad.
Voilà.
Here it is.
Le Rwanda,
Rwanda,
le Maroc,
Morocco,
tous des pays comme ça,
all countries like that,
les États-Unis.
the United States.
Le Brésil.
Brazil.
Mais je pense qu'en France
But I think that in France
et en Europe,
and in Europe,
là, on atteint
there, we reach
le niveau supérieur
the upper level
des compétitions.
competitions.
Il ne pourra plus
He will no longer be able to.
en avoir des nouvelles.
to hear news about it.
Il y a un problème aussi
There is a problem too.
qui...
who...
On en parle peu,
We don't talk about it much,
mais c'est que
but it's that
les inscriptions
the inscriptions
sont de plus en plus chères.
are becoming more and more expensive.
Oui, ça coûte.
Yes, it costs.
Ça coûte quand même
It still costs.
du pognon.
some money.
C'est en moyenne
It is on average.
entre 250 et 400 euros
between 250 and 400 euros
une inscription.
an inscription.
Oui, c'est ça.
Yes, that's right.
Pour certaines organisations,
For some organizations,
c'est 400 euros.
It’s 400 euros.
Et plus c'est long,
And the longer it is,
plus c'est cher,
the more expensive it is,
alors que c'est
while it is
pareil.
same.
Mais il y a aussi
But there is also
l'investissement matériel
material investment
qui est très important.
which is very important.
On le sait,
We know it,
on le voit.
We see him.
On est tous les deux
We are both.
passionnés,
passionate,
donc je sais
so I know
ce que ça coûte.
what it costs.
Ça, c'est moi aussi.
That's me too.
Et puis,
And then,
moi,
me,
je pense quand même
I still think.
que
that
l'attrait
the attraction
sur les Bikiman
on the Bikiman
et sur les courses ultra,
and on ultra races,
on revient toujours
We always come back.
aux Bikiman
to the Bikiman
parce qu'on a
because we have
une grande attache
a large attachment
avec Axel Carion.
with Axel Carion.
Exact.
Exact.
Et puis,
And then,
Fast Club
Fast Club
est partenaire
is a partner
du Bikiman
of the Bikiman
avec le café.
with the coffee.
Mais moi,
But me,
je voudrais juste
I just want.
qu'on reparle
let's talk again
d'une anecdote.
of an anecdote.
J'en parlais
I was talking about it.
dans l'intro.
in the intro.
Richard
Richard
est capable
is capable
de réparer
to repair
une imprimante
a printer
à distance
from a distance
pendant le Bikiman.
during the Bikiman.
Oui, enfin,
Yes, finally,
réparer,
repair,
je ne sais pas,
I don't know.
mais donner des conseils.
but giving advice.
En fait,
In fact,
c'est Flo
it's Flo
qui m'a téléphoné.
who called me.
On était dans le
We were in the
bâtiment
building
de Bikiman.
from Bikiman.
On était dans le
We were in the
bâtiment de Bikiman.
Bikiman building.
On était dans le bâtiment
We were in the building.
de Bikiman.
of Bikiman.
Et après,
And then,
Porto Vecchio.
Porto Vecchio.
C'est ce col-là,
It's that pass there,
je crois.
I believe.
Si, il me semble.
Yes, it seems to me.
C'était avant
It was before.
l'imprimante.
the printer.
Oui, c'était un peu
Yes, it was a little.
avant.
before.
Ou avant.
Or before.
Donc,
So,
c'était panne
it was a breakdown
d'imprimante
of printer
à la maison.
At home.
Donc, avec le téléphone,
So, with the phone,
on a pu gérer ça.
We managed to handle that.
On avait le temps
We had time.
dans la montée.
in the ascent.
Et oui,
And yes,
c'était une belle anecdote.
It was a lovely anecdote.
On a bien rigolé.
We had a good laugh.
Encore des anecdotes,
More anecdotes,
on en a eu.
We had some.
On pourrait écrire
One could write
un livre
a book
rien que sur le bâtiment.
Nothing but on the building.
Oui,
Yes,
sur ce Bikiman.
on this Bikiman.
Oui.
Yes.
On en a eu
We had some.
pas mal.
not bad.
Tu as été nommé
You have been appointed.
bidon d'or
golden can
de la bienveillance.
of kindness.
Oui,
Yes,
alors ça,
so that,
oui.
yes.
J'étais content,
I was happy,
n'empêche.
nevertheless.
Qu'est-ce que tu as fait ?
What have you done?
J'ai fait que j'ai...
I did what I...
Alors,
So,
c'est clair.
It's clear.
J'ai fait un Bikiman
I made a Bikiman.
avec Pierrot.
with Pierrot.
J'ai fait une Poco Loco
I made a Poco Loco.
avec Georges.
with Georges.
Donc,
So,
en fait,
actually,
c'était des moments...
it was moments...
Oui,
Yes,
c'était déconcentré.
It was distracted.
C'était vraiment...
It was really...
C'était sensationnel.
It was sensational.
C'était sensationnel,
It was sensational.
quoi.
what.
Franchement,
Honestly,
on a vécu
we lived
des moments...
moments...
Alors,
So,
faire deux épreuves
to take two tests
avec toi
with you
et une avec Georges,
and one with Georges,
bon,
good,
ça forge le mental.
It shapes the mindset.
Je pense à Jean-Marc
I am thinking of Jean-Marc.
aussi,
also,
qui était dans
who was in
un moment difficile
a difficult moment
en Corse
in Corsica
avec un sac
with a bag
de glaçons
ice cubes
sur la tête.
on the head.
Franchement,
Honestly,
moi,
me,
j'aime bien...
I like...
C'est pour ça
That's why.
qu'on le fait,
that we do it,
quoi.
what.
J'aime bien aider.
I like to help.
Enfin,
Finally,
aider.
to help.
Et puis,
And then,
franchement,
frankly,
ça m'aurait...
It would have...
Ça m'aurait...
It would have...
Ça m'aurait attristé
It would have saddened me.
qu'ils ne puissent pas finir,
that they cannot finish,
franchement,
frankly,
parce que c'était mérité.
because it was deserved.
Donc,
So,
j'ai dit,
I said,
on va rouler ça ensemble
We're going to roll this out together.
et je pense qu'on a fait
and I think we did
une belle équipe.
a great team.
La célèbre Dream Team.
The famous Dream Team.
Et c'est encore
And it's still
des moments...
moments...
J'ai encore vu
I saw again.
des photos ce matin
photos this morning
et ça te rappelle
and it reminds you
des souvenirs,
memories,
des trucs de fou,
crazy stuff,
franchement.
frankly.
C'est pour ça
That's why.
que je fais
what I do
ces épreuves-là
those trials
de toute façon
anyway
parce qu'on ne la gagnera pas.
because we will not win it.
On ne fait pas pour ça.
We don't do that for that.
C'est fait pour les rencontres
It is made for meetings.
et ça se passe
and it happens
généralement,
generally,
c'est...
it is...
J'ai vraiment
I really have
des belles rencontres.
beautiful encounters.
On a eu
We had.
des souvenirs
memories
terribles encore.
terrible again.
Sur l'Apoco Loco
On the Apoco Loco
avec Georges,
with Georges,
c'était phénoménal.
It was phenomenal.
On est passé
We passed.
par toutes les émotions
through all the emotions
en 3 jours,
in 3 days,
4 jours,
4 days,
2 jours,
2 days,
enfin bref,
anyway,
de 0 à 100.
from 0 to 100.
Donc,
So,
oui,
yes,
j'adore ça,
I love it.
franchement.
frankly.
Pas facile,
Not easy,
Georges,
Georges,
à suivre
to be continued
parce que
because
on l'adore,
we adore him/her,
attention,
attention,
ce que je dis,
what I am saying,
mon Georges,
my Georges,
tu ne le prends pas mal.
Don't take it the wrong way.
Mais pas facile
But not easy.
parce qu'il est,
because he is,
il est capable
he is capable
de passer du...
to go from...
Moi,
Me,
ce que j'ai compris
what I understood
et ce que j'ai perçu
and what I perceived
du personnage,
of the character,
tu peux peut-être
you might be able to
confirmer,
confirm.
on ne l'a pas vu en Corse
We haven't seen him in Corsica.
parce qu'il a tracé
because he has drawn
et qu'il était devant nous
and that he was in front of us
and that he did not wait for us.
D'ailleurs,
Moreover,
moi,
me,
je lui en ai énormément voulu.
I held it against him/her a lot.
Je déconne.
I'm joking.
Mais,
But,
en fait,
in fact,
il est capable
he is capable
de dire
to say
d'énormes conneries
huge nonsense
et
and
à te péter de rire
to burst out laughing at you
sur le vélo
on the bike
et d'un coup,
and all of a sudden,
il vrille
he's spiraling
et là,
and there,
c'est tout va mal.
Everything is going wrong.
Il est passé
He passed by.
du...
of the...
Sur la Poco Loco,
On the Poco Loco,
il est passé
he has passed
du tout va mal
Everything is going wrong.
à...
to...
Je me mets en danseuse
I’m putting myself in a dancer's position.
dans un col
in a pass
à 10%
at 10%
en l'espace
in space
de 20 minutes.
of 20 minutes.
On a mangé
We ate.
un plat de pâtes
a plate of pasta
et 20 minutes après,
and 20 minutes later,
on regardait
we were watching
comment prendre le train.
how to take the train.
Il est allé téléphoner
He went to make a phone call.
à Max
to Max
et puis à Nathalie
and then to Nathalie
et après,
and after,
il est sorti de la salle.
He left the room.
J'ai tiré la langue
I stuck out my tongue.
dans le col
in the pass
parce qu'il était...
because he was...
C'était plus le même
It was no longer the same.
mais c'est...
but it is...
Voilà,
Here you go,
c'est Georges.
It's Georges.
Voilà.
Here it is.
Mais super souvenir,
But great memory,
franchement.
frankly.
Moi,
Me,
que ce soit
be it
la Poco Loco
the Poco Loco
ou la Corse,
or Corsica,
c'était vraiment
it was really
des super souvenirs.
great memories.
Mais rouler avec Georges
But driving with Georges
sur une trace,
on a trail,
c'est une aventure.
It's an adventure.
C'est double l'aventure.
It's double the adventure.
C'est une double aventure.
It's a double adventure.
On l'a vu
We saw him.
pendant le
during the
week-end bidon d'or
fake golden weekend
où là,
where there,
en plus,
in addition,
c'était
it was
le festival
the festival
de bêtises
nonsense
entre Juju,
between Juju,
Clément
Clement
et Georges.
and Georges.
C'était terrible.
It was terrible.
Non, mais c'était...
No, but it was...
Franchement,
Honestly,
c'est pour ça.
That's why.
En fait,
In fact,
sur de l'ultra,
on ultra,
quand on est parti
when we left
sur la Poco Loco,
on the Poco Loco,
Georges était malade.
Georges was sick.
Franchement,
Frankly,
il a tenu...
he held on...
Il avait la gastro.
He had gastroenteritis.
Il avait une grosse,
He had a big,
grosse gastro.
severe gastroenteritis.
Il a dû dire
He must have said.
j'abandonne 200 fois
I give up 200 times.
et franchement,
and frankly,
je pensais qu'il n'allait
I thought he wasn't going to.
vraiment pas y arriver
really can't manage it
puisqu'il était vraiment
since he was really
très, très malade.
very, very sick.
Et puis,
And then,
le CP1,
the CP1
je ne sais pas,
I don't know,
l'a transformé.
transformed it.
Alors après,
So then,
ça a été...
it has been...
Ça a été un festival.
It was a festival.
Je pense que
I think that
on a fait,
we did,
mais vraiment...
but really...
Je n'ai pas tout raconté,
I haven't told everything,
mais on a tout vu.
but we've seen it all.
La course de chien.
The dog race.
Après,
After,
on faisait la course
we were racing
avec un cyclo
with a moped
dans un col en Espagne.
in a pass in Spain.
Chargé,
Charged,
au bout de 700 bornes.
after 700 miles.
On était
We were
le cœur dans la bouche.
the heart in the mouth.
Je n'en pouvais plus.
I couldn't take it anymore.
Mais Georges,
But Georges,
on a eu chacun
we each had
de notre journée,
of our day,
mais franchement,
but frankly,
on a fait une belle équipe
We made a great team.
aussi.
also.
Bravo.
Well done.
Mais c'est une aventure.
But it's an adventure.
Tu vas avoir
You are going to have.
des compagnons
companions
pour le
for the
Bikiman Portugal.
Bikiman Portugal.
Tu vas retrouver
You will find back.
Jean-Marc,
Jean-Marc,
mais qui est en paire.
but who is in a pair.
Oui,
Yes,
exact.
exact.
Et Clément.
And Clément.
Il y a Clément.
There is Clément.
Mais bon,
But anyway,
après,
after,
est-ce que Clément
is Clément
ne va pas repartir
will not leave again
comme une fusée ?
Like a rocket?
Je ne sais pas.
I don't know.
Oui,
Yes,
il y a Max.
There is Max.
Oui,
Yes,
Clément,
Clément,
je pense qu'il a le niveau
I think he has the level.
pour aller chercher
to go get
quelque chose,
something,
franchement.
frankly.
Surtout sur un
Especially on a
Portugal.
Portugal.
Je pense qu'il est
I think he is.
vraiment solide.
really solid.
Là,
There,
en ce moment,
at the moment,
il s'entraîne au soleil.
He trains in the sun.
Donc,
So,
il va faire ça sérieusement.
He is going to take that seriously.
Cette année,
This year,
je vais quand même
I'm going anyway.
essayer d'être
try to be
un peu moins bienveillant.
a little less benevolent.
Quand même.
Still.
Parce que j'aimerais
Because I would like
voir ce qui se passe
see what's happening
notamment au Portugal.
notably in Portugal.
Je vais quand même
I'm going anyway.
essayer de me mettre
try to get me
pas dans le rouge,
not in the red,
mais au moins
but at least
dans la difficulté
in difficulty
et voir ce qui se passe.
and see what happens.
Et puis après,
And then after,
on fera
we will do
suivant les rencontres.
following the encounters.
Le Maroc,
Morocco,
on va le mettre à part.
We will set it aside.
Le Portugal,
Portugal,
il y a une nouveauté,
there is a new development,
c'est que par rapport
it's that in relation
aux autres années,
in other years,
aux années précédentes,
to the previous years,
le parcours
the course
est inversé.
is inverted.
Oui,
Yes,
c'est inversé.
It's reversed.
Ils ont modifié
They modified.
CP1
CP1
à Sagres
in Sagres
au lieu d'être
instead of being
à
to
Villa,
Villa,
je ne sais plus,
I don't know anymore,
Vizosa,
Vizosa,
tout comme ça.
just like that.
Je ne connaissais pas
I didn't know.
le parcours en Portugal,
the course in Portugal,
mais j'ai vu
but I saw
qu'il était inversé.
that it was reversed.
Il était inversé
It was reversed.
et vous allez
and you are going
vous régaler.
have a great time.
Vous allez vous régaler,
You are going to have a great time.
mais il n'est pas
but he is not
à prendre
to take
à la légère,
lightly,
on l'a souvent dit.
It has often been said.
Non,
No,
mais de toute façon,
but in any case,
on n'a pas l'air
we don't look like it
avec le jus.
with the juice.
C'est un
It's a
backman
backman
qui reste
who remains
très important
very important
en termes de
in terms of
stress.
stress.
C'est mille bornes,
It's a thousand milestones,
c'est le dénivelé,
it's the elevation change,
mais on ne sait pas
but we don't know
ce qu'on peut avoir
what we can have
au niveau
at the level
météo.
weather.
De toute façon,
Anyway,
ça reste
it remains
mille kilomètres
thousand kilometers
et le danger,
and the danger,
justement,
exactly,
quand on parlait
when we talked
de l'évolution
of evolution
de l'Ultra,
of the Ultra,
je pense que
I think that
le danger
the danger
qu'il y a
that there is
actuellement,
currently,
aujourd'hui,
today,
de toute façon,
anyway,
c'est la banalisation
it's the trivialization
de ces distances-là.
from such distances.
Moi,
Me,
je me rappelle,
I remember,
on m'aurait dit
I would have been told
quand j'ai commencé
when I started
le vélo,
the bike,
tu vas faire
you are going to do
mille bornes,
thousand milestones,
mais ce n'est pas possible.
but that is not possible.
Et maintenant,
And now,
j'ai vu au week-end
I saw over the weekend.
Bidon d'Or,
Golden Jug
on en parlait avec Clément
we were talking about it with Clément
et on s'est dit,
and we said to ourselves,
tiens,
here,
on fait 180 bornes
we're doing 180 kilometers
comme on ferait 30.
as we would do 30.
Et le danger,
And the danger,
pour moi,
for me,
il est là.
He is there.
C'est le toujours plus
It's always more.
qui peut arriver.
who can come.
Je n'espère pas,
I do not hope so,
mais l'accident
but the accident
où tu vois
where you see
les 3000 kilomètres,
the 3000 kilometers,
4000 kilomètres
4000 kilometers
où là,
oh there,
les mecs,
the guys,
je ne sais pas comment
I don't know how.
ils font.
they do.
Moi,
Me,
le mec qui ne dort pas
the guy who doesn't sleep
sur 4000 bornes,
out of 4000 milestones,
déjà,
already,
perso,
personal,
je n'y crois pas trop.
I don't really believe it.
Et le danger,
And the danger,
pour moi,
for me,
le danger de l'Ultra,
the danger of the Ultra,
c'est ça.
That's it.
C'est le toujours plus
It's always more.
qui peut aller
who can go
à l'accident.
to the accident.
Tu as une limite,
You have a limit,
toi,
you,
de...
from...
de distance.
of distance.
Oui.
Yes.
Là,
There,
je sais qu'on a
I know that we have
quelques membres
a few members
de Fast Club
by Fast Club
qui se sont lancés
who have embarked
sur des gros...
on big...
des grosses épreuves
big challenges
de plus de 2000 kilomètres.
of more than 2000 kilometers.
Tout à l'heure,
Earlier,
tu disais d'ailleurs
you were saying by the way
sur...
on...
qui sont en inscription
who are enrolling
sur tirage au sort.
by drawing lots.
Je pense
I think
à des TCR,
to TCRs,
des épreuves
trials
comme ça.
like that.
Des Badlands,
Badlands,
je crois que c'est Max
I think it's Max.
qui voulait faire
who wanted to do
la Badlands.
the Badlands.
Mais,
But,
il y en a quand même
There are still some.
deux membres
two members
qui font la Race
who make the Race
Across France 2600.
Across France 2600.
Notamment Thomas
Notably Thomas
qui veut faire aussi
who else wants to do it
l'accession
accession
à la RAM.
to the RAM.
À lui,
To him,
oui,
yes,
à la RAM,
to the RAM,
Thomas,
Thomas,
ça fait projet,
that's a project,
ça aussi,
this too,
oui.
yes.
Toi,
You,
tu as une barrière,
you have a barrier,
donc,
so,
ce que j'ai compris,
what I understood,
tu as une limite.
you have a limit.
Moi,
Me,
la limite,
the limit,
déjà que je me fixe,
already that I set myself,
c'est la limite du boulot.
That's the limit of the job.
Je ne peux pas partir
I can't leave.
non plus
me neither
15 jours,
15 days,
3 semaines,
3 weeks,
8 jours,
8 days,
mais 1000,
but 1000,
ça va très bien.
I'm doing very well.
Je pense que c'est
I think that it is
la bonne distance
the right distance
parce que
because
je discutais avec Christophe
I was talking with Christophe.
au Coulon,
at Coulon,
du Fast Club aussi,
from the Fast Club too,
que je vois
that I see
de temps en temps.
from time to time.
Et son récit,
And his story,
la 2005,
the 2005
franchement,
frankly,
c'est plus engageant.
it's more engaging.
Ça ne me fait pas rêver.
It doesn't make me dream.
2005,
2005,
en course.
in progress.
Après,
After,
en voyage,
on a trip,
ce n'est pas pareil.
it's not the same.
Oui,
Yes,
non,
no,
je ne parle pas
I do not speak.
en format bikepacking
in bikepacking format
où tu visites
where you visit
et tu t'arrêtes
and you stop
quand tu veux.
Whenever you want.
Là,
There,
tu as quand même
you still have
un dossard,
a bib
un chrono
a stopwatch
et tu es obligé
and you are obligated
de...
of...
Non,
No,
en format court,
in short format,
je ne le ferai jamais.
I will never do it.
Par exemple,
For example,
la 2005,
the 2005
la RAP,
the RAP,
je ne le ferai jamais.
I will never do it.
Mais Millbourne,
But Millbourne,
ça va très bien
I'm doing very well.
et j'ai vraiment...
and I really...
Le format Bikingman
The Bikingman format
est très,
is very,
très,
very,
très bon.
very good.
L'organisation,
The organization,
franchement,
frankly,
c'est top.
It's great.
Donc,
So,
j'espère que justement,
I hope that just,
c'est ces courses
it's these races
qui vont rester
who will stay
et qui s'accrochent
and who cling
parce que franchement,
because frankly,
on a quand même
we still have
un service,
a service,
Millbourne,
Millbourne,
une organisation au top.
a top-notch organization.
Voilà.
Here you go.
Moi,
Me,
c'est ce format-là,
it's that format.
ça me va très bien.
That suits me very well.
C'est aussi le fait
It's also the fact
de pouvoir visiter
to be able to visit
d'autres pays.
other countries.
Je veux dire,
I mean,
Bikingman,
Bikingman,
avant,
before,
c'était Taïwan,
it was Taiwan,
c'était Oman.
It was Oman.
Il y a toujours Brésil.
There is always Brazil.
Il y avait
There was
un caddie
a shopping cart
avec...
with...
Oui,
Yes,
voilà,
there you go,
c'est des régions.
These are regions.
Pérou.
Peru.
Aujourd'hui,
Today,
il y a le X au Maroc.
There is X in Morocco.
Si demain,
If tomorrow,
il peut très bien y avoir
there can very well be
un Bikingman Maroc.
a Bikingman Morocco.
Il y a déjà
There is already
l'Atlas Mountain Race,
the Atlas Mountain Race,
mais il y a quand même
but there is still
de quoi faire.
enough to do.
C'est des courses
It's shopping.
qui font voyager.
that make travel.
Là,
There,
maintenant,
now,
quand on voit
when we see
des grosses courses
big shopping trips
comme la Norscape 4000,
like the Norscape 4000,
on voit la TCR
we see the TCR
où tu traverses
where you cross
différents pays.
different countries.
Il y a aussi
There is also
la Norscape 4000
the Norscape 4000
et c'est Max
and it's Max
qui fait la Normandie Cap,
who makes Normandy Cap,
je crois,
I believe,
un truc comme ça.
something like that.
Nomadian.
Nomadian.
Il en fait une...
He makes one...
C'est dans les pays de l'Est.
It's in the Eastern countries.
C'est la Transbalkane
It is the Trans-Balkan.
ou un truc comme ça.
or something like that.
Bon,
Well,
mais là,
but there,
c'est des destinations
these are destinations
qui ne me font pas rêver.
that do not make me dream.
Les pays de l'Est,
The Eastern countries,
enfin,
finally,
les Balkans,
the Balkans,
il faut aimer les chiens
One must love dogs.
et la bouffe,
and the food,
c'est dégueulasse.
It's disgusting.
Tu ne manges
You don't eat.
que des trucs,
just stuff,
que de la viande,
only meat,
de la viande,
meat,
des saucisses,
sausages,
des trucs.
stuff.
Tous les récits
All the stories
que je vois sur la TCR,
that I see on the TCR,
franchement,
frankly,
ça ne fait pas rêver.
It doesn't sound dreamy.
La Norscape,
The Norscape,
ils t'annoncent
they are telling you
le Cap Nord,
North Cape,
mais il faut savoir
but one must know
que tu traverses
that you are going through
des pays comme...
countries like...
J'ai un pote
I have a buddy.
qui est allé en Finlande.
who went to Finland.
Bon,
Good,
il n'y a rien.
There is nothing.
Il y a des moustiques
There are mosquitoes.
et des lignes droites.
and straight lines.
Donc,
So,
moi,
me,
je pense plutôt
I think rather.
à des pays
to countries
comme le Brésil,
like Brazil,
le Maroc.
Morocco.
C'est quand même...
It's still...
L'Amérique du Sud,
South America,
la partie Pérou,
the part Peru,
ça doit être magnifique.
It must be magnificent.
Et puis,
And then,
moi,
me,
j'ai mon rêve
I have my dream.
des États-Unis.
from the United States.
Donc,
So,
voilà,
here it is,
c'est ces pays
it's these countries
qui m'attirent.
that attract me.
OK.
OK.
Voilà,
Here it is,
mais Millbourne,
but Millbourne,
ça va bien
I'm fine.
et Bikingman,
and Bikingman,
très, très bien.
very, very good.
Nous avons tous
We all have
un grand attachement
a strong attachment
à ce Bikingman.
to this Bikingman.
En fait,
In fact,
quand on a fait
when we did
un
one
et que tu as fait
and what you did
d'autres organisations,
other organizations,
c'est là
it's there
que tu vois la différence.
that you see the difference.
C'est dit
It's said.
à Fast Club aussi,
at Fast Club too,
je pense,
I think,
le fait...
the fact...
Oui,
Yes,
mais il y a quand même
but there is still
une qualité.
a quality.
Enfin,
Finally,
Axel,
Axel,
Didier,
Didier,
tu leur poses
you ask them
une question par mail,
a question by email,
tu as la réponse
you have the answer
dix minutes après.
ten minutes later.
David,
David,
pareil.
same.
Et puis,
And then,
on ne va pas
we are not going
citer tout le monde,
cite everyone,
mais les Race Angels,
but the Race Angels,
c'est pas autre chose.
It's nothing else.
On a aussi
We also have
Jean-Marc
Jean-Marc
qui a fait partie
who was a part
des Race Angels.
Race Angels.
Jean-Marc,
Jean-Marc,
oui.
yes.
Karine.
Karine.
Il y a Karine,
There is Karine,
bien sûr.
Of course.
Karine qui a sauvé
Karine who saved
mon Bikingman
my Bikingman
au scaddy,
at the scaddy,
quand même,
still,
en me mettant de force
by forcing me
une banane dans la poche.
a banana in the pocket.
Je pense que...
I think that...
À quoi ça tient,
What is it due to,
Millbourne,
Millbourne,
ça tient une banane.
It holds a banana.
Voilà.
There it is.
D'où la casquette
That's where the cap comes from.
banana de Jean-Jo.
Jean-Jo's banana.
D'où la casquette
That’s where the cap comes from.
banana, oui.
banana, yes.
Non,
No,
mais franchement,
but frankly,
si elle avait...
if she had...
Voilà,
Here it is,
c'est ces attentions-là
it's those kinds of attentions
qui font que tu reviens,
that make you come back,
quoi.
what.
Sur les autres organisations,
On other organizations,
t'as pas ça.
you don't have that.
On a Sergio aussi
We also have Sergio.
qui fait partie du Bikingman,
who is part of Bikingman,
qui est le Marshall.
Who is the Marshal?
La famille Ferreira,
The Ferreira family,
vraiment phénoménal.
truly phenomenal.
Donc,
So,
bon,
good,
après,
after,
moi,
me,
je dis toujours qu'Axel,
I always say that Axel,
je considère Axel
I consider Axel.
comme un ami,
like a friend,
donc il n'y a pas de...
so there is no...
Non,
No,
mais en plus,
but furthermore,
c'est pro,
it's professional,
parce que moi,
because me,
j'ai fait d'autres organisations,
I have made other organizations,
on va pas parler...
we're not going to talk...
C'est moins professionnel,
It's less professional,
franchement,
frankly,
si on compare,
if we compare,
si on est honnête,
if we're honest,
il n'y a pas photo.
There is no comparison.
Oui,
Yes,
je vois,
I see,
de quoi tu parles.
What are you talking about?
Voilà.
Here it is.
Non,
No,
il y a des trucs,
there are things,
en fait,
actually,
où on nous balance quand même des...
where we are still thrown some...
On nous balance sur des traces
We are being balanced on traces.
à l'arrache,
last minute, haphazardly, or on the fly
honnêtement,
honestly,
et là,
and there,
on prend des risques.
We take risks.
On fait prendre des risques,
We take risks,
il y a des gens qui sont...
there are people who are...
Le danger de l'ultra,
The danger of the ultra,
c'est ça.
That's it.
Il y a le mec qui roule,
There's the guy who rides,
qui a fait,
who made,
OK,
OK,
il se débrouille,
he manages,
mais il y a des gens qui...
but there are people who...
Des cyclistes qui viennent,
Cyclists who are coming,
ils n'ont pas l'habitude,
they are not used to it,
et on les lance sur des traces.
and we throw them on trails.
Franchement,
Frankly,
j'ai vu des trucs,
I saw things,
c'est chaud.
It's hot.
Notamment,
Notably,
la Poco Loco,
the Poco Loco,
c'était super bien,
it was really good,
mais par exemple,
but for example,
tu vois,
you see,
faire arriver à Barcelone
to arrive in Barcelona
en centre-ville,
in the city center,
bon,
good,
il faudra du courage quand même.
It will still take some courage.
Moi,
Me,
je suis allé à Barcelone,
I went to Barcelona,
oui,
yes,
il en faut.
It takes some.
C'est terrible.
It's terrible.
Tu te fais couper en deux
You are being cut in half.
les types qui roulent
the guys who roll
comme des fous.
like crazy.
Oui,
Yes,
les deux fois cinq bois,
the two times five woods,
c'était terrible.
It was terrible.
Je vois ce que tu veux dire.
I see what you mean.
Bon,
Well,
Richard,
Richard,
nous arrivons sur la fin
we are reaching the end
de ce podcast
of this podcast
avec notre barrière horaire
with our time barrier
d'une heure,
of one hour,
et puis toi,
and then you,
il faut que tu ailles travailler.
You need to go to work.
Oui,
Yes,
gagner de l'argent
make money
pour acheter des vélos.
to buy bikes.
Et pour pouvoir s'inscrire.
And in order to be able to register.
Il va falloir que tu trouves
You're going to have to find.
un sponsor
a sponsor
et que tu sois ambassadeur
and that you be an ambassador
d'une marque
of a brand
fabriquée
made
dans un pays
in a country
complètement
completely
par des enfants.
by children.
On va
We're going.
continuer
to continue
l'autofinancement.
self-financing.
Même si c'est vrai
Even if it's true
que ça coûte
what it costs
quand même une dame.
Still a lady.
On a la chance
We are lucky.
de pouvoir choisir.
to be able to choose.
C'est un luxe
It's a luxury.
de pouvoir choisir.
to be able to choose.
C'est un luxe,
It's a luxury,
c'est vrai.
It's true.
C'est un luxe,
It is a luxury,
c'est un luxe.
It's a luxury.
Bon,
Good,
Richard,
Richard,
je te remercie
I thank you.
pour cette heure
for this hour
passée
past
avec toi.
with you.
Bon,
Good,
de toute façon,
anyway,
on reste en contact.
We'll stay in touch.
Rendez-vous.
Appointment.
On ne se voit pas
We don't see each other.
au week-end alors ?
On the weekend then?
Non,
No,
on ne se verra pas,
we will not see each other,
Jérôme,
Jérôme,
parce que j'ai
because I have
des rendez-vous
appointments
et je ne peux pas
and I can't
les annuler.
cancel them.
On ne se verra pas
We won't see each other.
au Portugal non plus,
not in Portugal either,
mais j'espère
but I hope
qu'on pourra
that we will be able
se revoir
to see each other again
rapidement.
quickly.
Je te souhaite
I wish you
et je te suis
and I follow you
sur les réseaux
on social networks
et même en dehors
and even outside
beaucoup.
a lot.
Une bonne préparation.
A good preparation.
Une bonne prépa.
A good prep.
Je te remercie encore.
I thank you again.
Ça va bien se passer
It will go well.
et puis j'espère
and then I hope
quand même bien
still good
prendre le bateau
take the boat
pour rejoindre l'île.
to reach the island.
Voilà.
There you go.
L'île de beauté,
The island of beauty,
mais voilà.
but there you go.
C'est en négociation,
It's in negotiation,
mais ça va être chaud
but it's going to be tough
quand même.
still.
Tu achètes
You buy
une nouvelle imprimante
a new printer
à flot,
afloat,
c'est bon.
It's good.
Ça va être plus
It's going to be more.
qu'une imprimante,
that a printer,
mais...
but...
Moi, je lui avais vendu
I had sold him/her.
du rêve en disant
of the dream saying
qu'on allait voir Pierrot
that we were going to see Pierrot
au week-end.
on the weekend.
Ça va être une grande
It's going to be a big one.
déception pour elle.
disappointment for her.
Tu peux lui acheter
You can buy it for her.
un vélo ?
a bike?
Ah là, non, non.
Ah no, no.
Elle en a un vélo,
She has a bike.
mais non, non, non.
but no, no, no.
Prends-lui un vélo électrique.
Get him an electric bike.
Elle a un vélo électrique.
She has an electric bike.
Elle en fait un petit peu.
She does it a little bit.
Dommage,
Too bad,
elle a du potentiel
She has potential.
parce qu'on a un rythme
because we have a rhythm
cardiaque très bas.
very low heart rate.
Je suis sûr
I am sure.
qu'on pourrait gagner
that we could win
sur un duro.
on a duro.
Elle m'entendra,
She will hear me,
elle m'arracherait
she would tear me away
les yeux quand même.
the eyes though.
Bon, tu sais
Well, you know.
qu'on a la tradition
that we have the tradition
de dire
to say
la bise au chat.
the kiss to the cat.
Ouais, la bise au chat,
Yeah, a kiss to the cat,
mais je préfère les chiens.
but I prefer dogs.
C'est vrai ?
Is it true?
C'est vrai, bon.
That's true, good.
I know that I have a dog too.
Je suis un passionné
I am passionate.
des chiens.
dogs.
Des animaux en général,
Animals in general,
mais ouais.
but yeah.
Mais j'adore les bêtes.
But I love animals.
Voilà.
Here it is.
Sauf sur les Baitimans
Except on the Baitimans.
quand ils te coursent
when they chase you
derrière.
behind.
Bon, ouais,
Well, yeah,
sauf quand ils nous partent
except when they leave us
derrière à 3h du matin,
behind at 3 in the morning,
mais ouais,
but yeah,
c'est ma...
it's my...
J'adore les animaux.
I love animals.
J'ai une chienne, là.
I have a female dog, there.
C'est très, très important
It is very, very important.
pour moi.
for me.
Donc, la bise au chien
So, the kiss to the dog.
et au chat.
and to the cat.
Bon.
Good.
Moi, je t'embrasse très fort.
I kiss you very tightly.
Tu fais une bise aussi à Flo.
Give a kiss to Flo too.
Et puis...
And then...
Pas de problème.
No problem.
On reste en contact.
Let's stay in touch.
Bisous, mon Richard.
Kisses, my Richard.
Allez, ciao.
Come on, bye.
Ciao, ciao.
Hello, hello.
A bientôt.
See you soon.
Ciao, ciao.
Hello, hello.
