Maclone and Kiljon. They were Ephrathites, from Bethlehem in Judah. Arriving in the land of Moab, they settled there. Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, died, and she remained with her two sons. They took moabite wives, one of whom was named Orpah and the other Ruth, and they lived there about ten years.

Et elles élevèrent la voix et pleurèrent encore.

And they raised their voices and wept again.

Orpa baisa sa belle-mère, mais Ruth s'attacha à elle.

Orpa kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her.

Naomi dit à Ruth,

Naomi said to Ruth,

« Voici, ta belle-sœur est retournée vers son peuple et vers ses dieux.

"Here, your sister-in-law has returned to her people and to her gods."

Retourne comme ta belle-sœur. »

"Turn around like your sister-in-law."

Ruth répondit,

Ruth replied,

« Ne me presse pas de te laisser, de retourner loin de toi.

"Don't rush me to leave you, to go far away from you."

Où tu iras, j'irai.

Où tu demeureras, je demeurerai.

Where you dwell, I will dwell.

Ton peuple sera mon peuple, et ton Dieu sera mon Dieu.
