Willkommen wieder mal beim Spiele-Podcast und mit einem Spiel, das schon einiges an Nachrichten in diesem Jahr produziert hat, weil es das Spiel des Jahres geworden ist.

Welcome back to the game podcast with a game that has generated quite a bit of news this year because it has become the game of the year.

So einfach kann es manchmal sein und so überraschend dahingehend, dass es ein Spiel ist, das ausschließlich für zwei Personen geeignet ist.

It can be that simple sometimes, and surprisingly so, considering that it is a game designed exclusively for two players.

Das hatten wir bisher beim Spiel des Jahres noch nicht so oft. Es geht um Sky Team aus dem Cosmos Verlag und was vielleicht auch für den einen oder anderen jetzt an dieser Stelle schon mal interessant ist, es scheint wieder lieferbar zu sein.

We haven't had this so often in the Game of the Year yet. It's about Sky Team from Cosmos Publishing, and what might be interesting for some at this point is that it seems to be available again.

Ich habe zumindest selber jetzt endlich auch noch mal ein eigenes Exemplar bekommen, nachdem ich es bei Freunden schon mal mitspielen durfte und es ist auch bei anderen schon aufgetaucht.

At least I've finally gotten my own copy now, after I had the chance to play it with friends before, and it has already appeared with others as well.

Also nachdem es Wochen oder Monate lang nicht zu bekommen war und das ist natürlich für so ein Verlag wahrscheinlich dann doch schon nicht ein super Geheimnis.

So after it was unavailable for weeks or months, and that's probably not a great secret for such a publisher.

Aber doch ärgerlich, wenn man denn so in der Presse ist durch die Wahl zum Spiel des Jahres und man kann keins von den Produkten direkt verkaufen.

But it is still frustrating when you are in the press due to the Game of the Year award and you can't sell any of the products directly.

Aber ich glaube, das wird sich durchaus halten und typischerweise ist das ja dann auch so ein Spiel, was man zu Weihnachten verschenkt, wenn es denn eben passt, dass man es eben auch nur für ein Zweierteam, also für zwei dann verschenken möchte.

But I believe it will definitely hold up, and typically, it's a game that you give as a gift at Christmas, especially if it’s suitable for just a two-person team, so you would want to give it only for two.

Ich habe es inzwischen mehrfach gespielt und es ist eins von den Spielen, die tatsächlich mal...

In der Brettspiel- beziehungsweise haptischen Variante bei mir und auch bei meiner Frau deutlich mehr Spaß gemacht hat, als die Boardgame-Arena-Version zu spielen.

Playing the board game, or the tactile version, was much more fun for me and my wife than playing the Boardgame Arena version.

Das ist bei anderen Spielen, Mischwald ist für mich so der Klassiker, hat mir so auf dem Brett überhaupt keinen Spaß mehr gemacht, weil das einfach mit dieser Zählerei und dem Stand mir dann irgendwie fehlte, was mir Boardgame-Arena so liefert.

That is the case with other games as well; Mixed Forest is, for me, the classic. It was just no fun for me on the board at all because it simply lacked that scorekeeping and status that Boardgame Arena provides me.

Das hier war schon lange bei Boardgame-Arena auch, Sky Team.

This has been on Boardgame-Arena for a long time as well, Sky Team.

Weil es wohl auch in anderen Ländern schon Preise eingeheimst hat und schon gehypt war und es hat dort aber uns nicht so richtig abgeholt.

Because it has already won awards in other countries and was hyped there, but it didn't really resonate with us.

Das liegt sicherlich daran, und damit kommen wir jetzt auch zum Spiel selber, dass man wirklich ein sehr schönes, wie soll man es denn sagen, Spielbrett hat.

This is certainly because, and now we come to the game itself, that it has a really beautiful, how should one say, game board.

Vielleicht sollte man dazu erstmal erwähnen, worum geht's.

Maybe it should be mentioned first what it's about.

Wir spielen kooperativ, also zwei Leute, ein Pilot und ein Co-Pilot sind das und die versuchen ein Flugzeug zu landen.

We play cooperatively, so two people, a pilot and a co-pilot, who are trying to land an airplane.

dröge bis zum geht nicht mehr, bietet aber Material dafür, sehr unterschiedliche Aufgaben zu gestalten, weil wir starten zwar mit einem ganz einfachen Flughafen, Montreal, steigern uns dann aber über Heathrow und und und, kommen dann ganz viele neue Module über viele, viele Partien dazu, sodass das Spiel also auch langfristig erstmal nicht langweilig wird.

Dry to the point of boredom, but it offers material for creating very different tasks, because we start with a very simple airport, Montreal, then gradually move up to Heathrow and so on, adding many new modules over many, many rounds, so the game doesn't become boring in the long term.

Und man kann sich denken, wenn so ein Spiel erstmal so ein Spiel des Jahres wird und erfolgreich, dann wird es auch weitere Module geben und weitere Flughäfen.

And you can imagine that when such a game becomes a game of the year and is successful, there will also be additional modules and more airports.

Oder neue Herausforderungen, aber da kommen wir gleich zu.

Or new challenges, but we'll get to that shortly.

Also, jeder von den beiden Spielern hat Würfel.

So, each of the two players has dice.

Erstmal sind es vier Stück und die werden gewürfelt geheim und der jeweils andere sieht nicht, was sein Gegenüber, mit dem er, wie das nochmal zur Erinnerung, zusammenspielt und mit dem er zusammen ein Flugzeug landen will, was der dann gewürfelt hat.

First of all, there are four pieces, and they are rolled in secret, and the other person does not see what their counterpart, with whom they are, as a reminder, playing together and trying to land a plane, has rolled.

Und diese Würfel werden dann nacheinander immer im Wechsel platziert auf diesem Spielbrett.

And these dice will then be placed alternately on this game board one after the other.

Was so dieses Cockpit eines Flugzeugs darstellen soll.

What this cockpit of an airplane is supposed to represent.

Da gibt es Felder, die müssen platziert werden.

There are fields that need to be placed.

Dazu gehört es nämlich zum Beispiel, wie zum Beispiel ist gut gesagt, es gibt auch zwei Arten von Steuerung, die immer gelegt werden müssen.

This includes, for example, how it is well said, there are also two types of controls that always need to be implemented.

Nämlich das ist der Vortrieb, sprich also die Turbinen und das ist die Lenkung.

Und das erreicht man am besten, indem beide die gleiche Würfelzahl legen.

Das ist nämlich auf diesem Spielbrett abgelegt und legt jeder von beiden, also ich lege eine 3.

Mein Gegenüber sieht dann, ah, der hat eine 3 gelegt, lege ich auch eine 3.

My opponent sees, ah, he played a 3, I'll also play a 3.

Wenn er denn eine hat mit seinen vier Würfeln, dann passiert gar nichts, weil das Flugzeug dann weiter geradeaus fliegt.

If he has one with his four dice, then nothing happens because the plane continues to fly straight ahead.

Hat der eine 4.

Does the one have a 4?

Und der andere 3 gelegt, dann neigt es sich schon mal zu dem Vierer um einen Punkt.

And the other 3 placed, it leans towards the four by one point.

Und es sind zwei Differenz 2 und es sind schon drei dazwischen.

And there are two differences of 2, and there are already three in between.

Also eigentlich 3 und eine 6 ist das Spiel auch schon vorbei, weil solche Winkel, die gehen dann gar nicht.

So actually, 3 and a 6 means the game is already over, because such angles just don't work at all.

Und so kann man natürlich ein bisschen Winkel hinkriegen, aber am Ende muss man es dann gerade ausgerichtet haben.

And so you can indeed create a bit of angle, but in the end, you have to align it straight.

Das gleiche ist so ein schönes Problem mit dem Schub.

The same is such a beautiful problem with the thrust.

Da werden die Würfel, die man legt, wechselhaft addiert.

The dice that are rolled are added variably.

Und je nachdem, wie viel man da hat, fliegt man eigentlich mehr oder weniger gar nicht nach vorne.

And depending on how much one has there, one actually doesn't really fly forward at all.

Was blöd ist, weil man jede Runde ein bisschen tiefer geht und man sollte dann am Ende den Flughafen erreichen.

Aber auch am Ende aller Tage muss man dann, darf man auch nicht zu früh am Flughafen sein, wenn man noch zu hoch ist.

Man erkennt vielleicht so leicht das Problem.

Dazu kommt, dass man Landeklappen ausfahren muss.
