Jetzt wollen wir aber tatsächlich nochmal konkret uns angucken, wo steht der Kinderfilm?

Da ist natürlich auch vielleicht ganz wichtig zu sagen, dass Kinderfilm ja immer am Boxoffice sehr, sehr gut läuft.

Und ja, wir wollen über Kinderfilme sprechen, aber vielleicht könnt ihr ja zunächst mal kurz was zu euch selber sagen, wer ihr seid, was ihr macht.

Und habe die ersten Jahre meines Drehbuch-Daseins hauptsächlich damit verbracht, für Kinderformate zu schreiben, also hauptsächlich Spielfilme, Kinofilme.

And I spent the first years of my screenwriting existence mainly writing for children's formats, so mainly feature films, cinema films.

Und habe dann aber irgendwann nach ein paar Jahren gemerkt, ich brauche mal was Neues und bin dann umgeschwenkt, fürs Fernsehen zu schreiben.

And then eventually, after a few years, I realized that I needed something new and switched to writing for television.

Und schreibe hauptsächlich jetzt fürs ZDF, Donnerstagabend.

And I mainly write now for ZDF, Thursday evenings.

Und trotzdem liegt mir der Kinderfilm nach wie vor sehr am Herzen.

And yet the children's film is still very close to my heart.

Und ich merke auch, dass es jetzt aus der jetzigen Position, wo ich gar nicht mehr für Kinder schreibe, obwohl ich das auch jederzeit wieder machen würde,

es natürlich nochmal viel leichter ist, für die Dinge zu kämpfen, die mir damals ziemlich aufgestoßen sind beim Kinderfilm und nach wie vor tun.

Und ich schreibe ja auch Prosa, also ich habe auch dann viele, viele Kinderbücher geschrieben.

And I also write prose, so I have written many, many children's books.

Und genau, und schreibe aber eben genauso wie Katja auch jetzt im Moment vor allen Dingen für Erwachsene, um auch mal wieder die eigene Perspektive einzunehmen.

Ich denke ja immer, alles sei so einfach für Kinder zu schreiben, aber so mit der Perspektive einer Achtjährigen durch die Welt zu gehen, finde ich auch manchmal nicht unanstrengend.

I always think that everything is so easy to write for children, but going through the world with the perspective of an eight-year-old can sometimes feel quite exhausting as well.

Aber es macht großen Spaß und genau auch wie Katja sagte, ich finde es einfach super wichtig.

But it is a lot of fun, and just like Katja said, I think it is really important.

komme ich natürlich mit der Zielgruppe immer viel nach wie vor zusammen und finde das sehr interessant,

In the adult sphere, it is often said that we are losing the youth, how do we get them back? Well, it starts with channels like Kika and Super RTL. If we can't somehow reach the children there and get them interested in watching, then they won't watch it later either.

Also wenn ich zum Teil meine Nichten und Neffen frage, fragst du ARD, ZDF, was ist das? Da gucken die dich an und sagen so, hm, keine Ahnung. Die kennen halt Disney+, Netflix und so. Und ich meine, da denke ich, wir haben ja alle ein Interesse, schon auch ein gesellschaftliches Interesse, dass das öffentlich-rechtliche Fernsehen natürlich eben auch Kinder so unterhält, dass sie sehen, das ist toll, das ist Qualität, das holt mich ab.

So when I ask some of my nieces and nephews, and you ask them ARD, ZDF, what is that? They look at you and say, hmm, no idea. They only know Disney+, Netflix, and so on. And I mean, I think we all have an interest, a social interest, that public broadcasting also entertains children in a way that they see, this is great, this is quality, this grabs me.

Und sie sind ja offensichtlich auch ein treues Publikum im Kino, auch wenn es ein bisschen zurückgeht, wie du sagst. Oder sind es die Eltern, die sagen, lass uns mal ins Kino gehen, man muss ja auch immer irgendwas machen, um die Leute zu bespaßen. Aber es scheint ja so zu sein, dass es da schon eine ernsthafte Nachfrage auch nach guten Filmen gibt.

And they are obviously a loyal audience in the cinema, even if it’s declining a bit, as you say. Or are it the parents who say, let’s go to the movies, as you always have to do something to entertain people. But it seems that there is indeed a serious demand for good films.

Ja, klar. Also ich meine, zum einen, wie du sagst, gehen die Eltern mit. Das macht natürlich auch zum Teil die Besucherzahlenauswahl. Ein Kind ja selten allein reingeht, sondern immer noch ein Elternteil.

Ja, das ist ein tolles Gemeinschaftserlebnis. Aber das ist auch das, um nochmal auf Fernsehen zurückzukommen, was wir festgestellt haben oder was wir gelesen haben in Studien, die gemacht wurden mit Kindern, was die sich eigentlich wünschen.

Yes, it is a great community experience. But that is also what we have noticed or what we have read in studies conducted with children, which is what they actually wish for.

Die wünschen sich dieses Lagerfeuer-Feeling mit der Familie, da zu sitzen vor der Glotze und etwas zu gucken, was die ganze Familie betrifft.

They wish for that campfire feeling with the family, sitting in front of the TV and watching something that concerns the whole family.

Und das sind Produktionen, die kennen wir noch eher aus der Kindheit. Die sind verloren gegangen. Also klar, bei Shows wie Dalli Dalli saßen wir auch und da gibt es immer noch welche, wo die ganze Familie da sitzt.

And these are productions that we remember more from childhood. They have been lost. Of course, we also watched shows like Dalli Dalli, and there are still some where the whole family sits together.

Aber diese Spielfilme, wo die ganze Familie vor der Glotze sitzt, die sind wahnsinnig zurückgegangen, was wir total bedauernswert finden, dass es da kaum Gelder gibt, die dafür zur Verfügung gestellt werden.

But these feature films, where the whole family sits in front of the TV, have decreased tremendously, which we find very regrettable, as there is hardly any funding available for them.

Und man sieht das auch schon, wenn man mal anguckt, wann werden die Spielfilme, erfolgreiche Spielfilme, Kinderspielfilme, die gut im Kino gelaufen sind, wann werden die im Fernsehen ausgestrahlt?

And you can already see that when you look at when the feature films, successful feature films, children's feature films, that have done well in the cinema, are broadcast on television?

Das ist nicht so Primetime. Das ist auch eher selten am Nachmittag. Das ist meistens zu einer Zeit, wo niemand richtig guckt. Das ist frühmorgens, das ist mal Sonntagmittag.

That's not really primetime. It's also rather rare in the afternoon. It's mostly at a time when no one is really watching. It's early in the morning, sometimes Sunday afternoon.

Und da sieht man ja auch, was für eine Relevanz das für die Sender hat, dass die diesen erfolgreichen Spielfilmen eigentlich kaum vertrauen. Das ist bei den Privaten anders.

And there you can see what relevance this has for the broadcasters, that they hardly trust these successful feature films. It's different with the private ones.

Naja, also man muss da ja schon einschränkend sagen, es gibt ja beim Kika den Platz Lollywood, der ist am Freitagabend. Und da haben die ja, da zeigen sie ja die Spielfilme, auch unter anderem, und merken ja, es ist total, es ist mega erfolgreich.

Well, we have to say restrictively that there is a segment called Lollywood on Kika, which is on Friday evenings. And there, they show feature films, among other things, and they notice that it is totally, it is massively successful.

So. Aber nochmal ganz kurz, also was ich immer mache bei meinen Lesungen ist zum Beispiel so Umfragen. Was, ne, was ist euch wichtig? Buch, Film oder Game? Klar, bei den Jungs tatsächlich Game an erster Stelle. Danach kommt Film und Fernsehen und Buch.

So. But just very briefly, what I always do at my readings, for example, is surveys. What, you know, what's important to you? Book, movie, or game? Of course, with the guys, game comes first. After that, it’s film and television, and then book.

Und was wir in der, wir haben für dieses letzte, wir haben ein Panel gehabt letztes Jahr auf dem Münchner Filmfest, da haben wir eine Umfrage gemacht unter Kindern. Und das war total interessant, wie die eben,

viele von denen leider eben sagten, ja, wir gucken Disney und Netflix und so. Und sich aber auch gewünscht haben, Genre, einer, der war irgendwie sechs oder was, der saß da und der sagte, ich will Grusel, so, kriegen sie eben eher nicht. Also da trauen wir, ich sag jetzt mal, wir alle als Branche denen auch zum Teil nicht richtig viel zu. Und genau das, was Katja auch gesagt hat, es gibt eine dänische Studie,

many of them sadly said, yes, we watch Disney and Netflix and so on. And they also wished for genre, one, who was somehow six or something, was sitting there and said, I want horror, so, they don't really get that. So we, let’s say, as an industry don't trust them much either. And exactly what Katja also said, there is a Danish study,

Und das sieht man ja eben an dem, und Kino ist natürlich was Besonderes. Kino war immer das Besondere, dieses, was du erzählst, da in einem Raum mit ganz vielen und dann geht das Licht aus und der Vorhang auf und so.
