Wir sind jetzt angekommen bei Folge 67.

We have now arrived at episode 67.

Und obwohl zwischen dieser Folge und der letzten Folge ein gutes Jahr liegt,

And although there is a good year between this episode and the last episode,

kann ich rückblickend sagen, es ist viel passiert in diesem einen Jahr, auch fotografisch.

In hindsight, I can say that a lot happened in this one year, also photographically.

Manche Dinge scheinen sich aber irgendwie nie zu ändern.

Some things, however, seem to never change.

Und ja, was es ist viel passiert betrifft, kann ich sagen,

And yes, regarding what has happened a lot, I can say,

dass ich im letzten Jahr eigentlich vergleichsweise viel fotografiert habe

that I actually took quite a lot of photographs last year

und durchaus auch das ein oder andere gemacht habe, was mir sehr, sehr gut gefällt.

and I have certainly done one or two things that I really, really like.

Und wo mir das Ergebnis sehr zusagt, dass wer mich gut kennt, weiß, dass das nicht selbstverständlich ist.

And where I am very pleased with the result, those who know me well know that this is not a given.

In der Regel bin ich immer erst mal super unzufrieden, wenn ich mit meinem Material wiederkomme.

Usually, I'm always really dissatisfied when I come back with my material.

Ja, aber Dinge, die sich nie ändern, sind unter anderem, dass ich schon wieder eine defekte Kamera habe.

Yes, but things that never change include the fact that I have a faulty camera again.

Und das ist auch schon wieder die Pentax 6-7.

And that's already the Pentax 6-7 again.

Fragt mich nicht, ich weiß nicht, wie es passiert ist.

Don't ask me, I don't know how it happened.

Bin mir keiner Schuld bewusst.

I am not aware of any wrongdoing.

Auf jeden Fall habe ich erneut einen Transportschaden in der Kamera.

In any case, I have once again experienced transport damage to the camera.

Der ist nicht ganz so schlimm wie beim letzten Mal,

It's not quite as bad as last time,

führt aber dazu, dass ich eine Rolle Film nie vollständig nutzen kann,

but it means that I can never fully utilize a roll of film,

sondern dass zur Unzeit dann Transport und Zähler blockieren.

Und so habe ich die Kamera dann gerade wieder eingepackt in sehr viel Luftpolsterfolie

und wieder an den Reparaturservice meines Vertrauens geschickt.

and sent again to the repair service I trust.

In der Hoffnung, dass sie sie nochmal hinkriegen.

In the hope that they can manage it again.

Denn, ja, die letzte Reparatur war schon recht kostspielig.

Because, yes, the last repair was quite expensive.

Und wenn sich das jetzt häuft, dann muss ich ganz einfach sagen,

And if this keeps happening, then I simply have to say,

dass sich das halt für den Body nicht mehr lohnt.

that it just isn't worth it for the body anymore.

Das heißt, sie hat jetzt eine quasi letzte Chance.

Ich hoffe, dass ich jetzt heute oder morgen den Kostenvoranschlag vom Reparaturservice bekomme.

Und dann werde ich sehen, ob ich sie nochmal reparieren lasse

Also das wird sehr, sehr klar einkategorisiert.

Und dann weiß man, woran man ist.

And then you know where you stand.

Und ich habe dort schon häufiger gebrauchtes Material geshoppt.

And I have shopped for used materials there more often.

Es lohnt sich in der Regel auch, wenn man den Zoll hinzurechnet,

It is usually worth it even when you add in the customs duties.

den man natürlich immer bezahlen muss, wenn es aus den USA kommt.

which you of course always have to pay for when it comes from the USA.

Und was von dort kommt, ist halt durchgesehen

And what comes from there is just scrutinized.

und immer in einem hervorragenden Zustand, was die Funktionalität betrifft.

and always in excellent condition in terms of functionality.

Ja, jetzt wollen wir mal sehen, ob meine alte 6-7 bei mir bleiben darf

oder ob ich sie dann irgendwann in die Vitrine stelle.

Und ja, mir eine neue alte besorge.

Also das zu den Dingen, die sich nie ändern.

Und dann gibt es auch noch ein paar Dinge, die sich nie ändern.

Und das ist die Art und Weise, wie ich durch meinen fotografischen Prozess gehe

And this is the way I go through my photographic process.

oder durch den kreativen Prozess.

or through the creative process.

Und da gibt es einfach Bereiche, die sehr, sehr viel mehr Liebe abbekommen als andere.

And there are simply areas that receive much, much more love than others.

Und es gibt so ein paar Ecken, an denen ich grundsätzlich meinen Allerwertesten nicht hochbekomme.

And there are a few corners where I just can't get my behind up.

Und diese Tatsache ist der Auslöser gewesen für das heute doch etwas philosophische Thema,

And this fact has been the trigger for today's somewhat philosophical topic,

das ich mir vorgeknöpft habe.

that I have set my mind to.

Aber es hat tatsächlich einen sehr praktischen Hintergrund und auch sehr praktische Auswirkungen.

But it actually has a very practical background and also very practical implications.

Ich habe mir heute mal wieder eine der Todsünden rausgesucht, quasi anlassbezogen

Today I have once again picked one of the deadly sins, so to speak, on occasion.

und möchte mir mal ein bisschen angucken,

and would like to take a look at it for a bit,

was die eigentlich mit Fotografie im allgemeinen und kreativen Prozess sind.

What they actually are with photography in general and the creative process.

Was die eigentlich mit Fotografie zu tun hat.

What does that actually have to do with photography?

Heute geht es um Luxuria, die Wollust.

Today it's about Luxuria, the lust.

Wollust, was ist das eigentlich?

Lust, what is it actually?

Und was hat die eigentlich mit kreativen Prozessen und damit mit Fotografie zu tun?

And what does that actually have to do with creative processes and photography?

Ich taste mich mal ran vom scheinbar ganz Offensichtlichen zum weniger Offensichtlichen.

I will approach it from the seemingly obvious to the less obvious.

Und die meisten von uns, Hand aufs Herz, denken bei der Todsünde Wollust

And most of us, hand on heart, think of the deadly sin of lust.

wahrscheinlich zuerst an so Dinge wie sexuelle Handlungen, sexuelle Fantasien,

probably first to things like sexual acts, sexual fantasies,

viel Nachhaltigkeit.

much sustainability.

Nackte Haut und vielleicht auch die Darstellung von primären Geschlechtsorganen.

Naked skin and perhaps also the depiction of primary sexual organs.

Und in Bezug auf Fotografie natürlich wahrscheinlich in allererster Linie mal an die Darstellung nackter Menschen

And in terms of photography, of course, it probably primarily concerns the depiction of naked people.

und vermutlich da dann hauptsächlich an die Darstellung nackter Frauen.

and presumably mainly to the depiction of naked women.

Oder wie ein entfernter Bekannter mal so treffend ausdrückte, an Arsch- und Hintenbilder.

Or as a distant acquaintance aptly put it, about ass and rear pictures.

Mir gingen ehrlich gesagt genau diese Bilder durch den Kopf.

To be honest, those were exactly the images that went through my mind.

Ich bin auch nur ein Mensch und auch interessanterweise, obwohl ich eine Frau bin,

I am just a human too, and interestingly enough, even though I am a woman,

habe ich dann halt auch Bilder von Nackten.

Then I just have pictures of naked people.

Nackten Frauen vielleicht, weil ich die einfach häufiger sehe als Bilder von nackten Männern.

Naked women perhaps, because I simply see them more often than pictures of naked men.

Und somit ist Wollust was, was wir in der Regel genau wie das Gegenteil davon

And thus, lust is something that we generally view just like its opposite.

mit fleischlichen Begierden gleichsetzen.

to equate with carnal desires.

Bei Wollust hat man sie und in der Keuschheit hat man sie eher nicht.

In lust one has it, and in chastity one is less likely to have it.

Oder man verkneift sie sich halt.

Or you just hold back.

Genauer betrachtet stellt sich aber raus, dass selbst bei den alten Heiligen und Weisen der Religion

Upon closer inspection, it turns out that even among the old saints and sages of religion

dieser Aspekt der Wollust nur einen kleinen Teil ist.

this aspect of lust is only a small part.

Also das war deutlich vielfältiger.

So that was clearly more diverse.

Und einen ganz guten Zugang zur Wollust bekommt man, wenn man mal überlegt

And you get a pretty good access to lust when you think about it.

oder wie in meinem Fall halt auch mal nachschlägt, was sie eigentlich nicht ist.

or like in my case, just looks it up, which she actually isn't.

Und zwar, wenn man sich mal mit dem Gegenkonzept beschäftigt, mit der Keuschheit.

And indeed, if you take a look at the counter-concept, which is chastity.

Und wenn ich an Keusch denke, dann geht mir zuerst mal sowas durch den Kopf wie brav

And when I think of chastity, the first thing that comes to my mind is something like being well-behaved.

oder zugeknöpft oder vielleicht auch nicht.

or buttoned up or maybe not.

Oder auch ein Hauch von verklemmt.

Or a hint of repression.

Ganz genau hingeschaut ist das Wort Keusch aber viel interessanter und sehr, sehr, sehr viel vielschichtiger,

When looked at closely, the word "chaste" is much more interesting and very, very, very much more complex.

als ich eigentlich dachte.

than I actually thought.

Das deutsche Wort Keusch kommt nämlich vom mittelhochdeutschen Begriff Kiusche.

The German word "Keusch" comes from the Middle High German term "Kiusche."

Und der wiederum kommt vom lateinischen Wort Conscius oder wird davon abgeleitet.

And this, in turn, comes from the Latin word "conscius" or is derived from it.

Und Conscius heißt mitwissend oder auch eingeweiht oder auch bewusst.

And conscius means knowing together or initiated or also conscious.

Und nach meinem vorherigen Verständnis von Keusch konnte ich mir ehrlich gesagt nicht besonders viel

And after my previous understanding of chastity, I honestly couldn't imagine much.

unter Keuschem Fotografieren vorstellen, außer vielleicht einen großen Bogen,

imagine photographing under modesty, except perhaps for a large arc,

um Motive mit nackter Haut zu machen.

to create motifs with bare skin.

Nach dieser erweiterten Definition von Keuschheit macht das für mich im kreativen Prozess viel, viel mehr Sinn.

According to this expanded definition of chastity, it makes much more sense to me in the creative process.

Denn Dinge, die ich liebe bewusst, das heißt mit Herz und Verstand zu tun,

For things that I love, to do so consciously, that is, with heart and mind,

statt mich wahllos irgendwie so der Ausschweifung hinzugeben, das leuchtet mir dann eher ein.

Instead of mindlessly indulging in debauchery, that makes more sense to me.

Und leuchtet mir besonders dann ein, wenn ich vorhabe, mich in dem, was ich gerne tue,

And it particularly makes sense to me when I plan to engage in what I love doing,

auch noch weiterzuentwickeln und zu lernen.

to further develop and learn.

Und ich habe da mal wieder den guten alten Anselm Grün rausgezogen aus dem Hut,

And once again, I've pulled the good old Anselm Grün out of the hat.

der sich ja mit den Todsünden im Rahmen einer Entwicklung einer Reihe von Osterpredigten mal auseinandergesetzt hat.

who has dealt with the seven deadly sins in the context of developing a series of Easter sermons.

Und der sagte,

And he said,

Keusch ist ein Mensch, der innerlich klar ist, der ein Gespür hat für das,

Chaste is a person who is clear within, who has a sense for what,

was er will und das Richtige.

what he wants and the right thing.

Unkeusch meint dann die Unklarheit.

Immodest then means the ambiguity.

Sie trübt unser Denken und Fühlen und wir sehen uns selbst und die anderen nicht mehr klar.

It clouds our thinking and feeling, and we can no longer see ourselves and others clearly.

Wenn ich also jetzt als Fotografin in meinen Bildern eine Botschaft so klar formulieren möchte,

So if I want to express a message in my images as a photographer so clearly now,

dass sie auch im Betrachter eine Geschichte auslöst,

that it also triggers a story in the observer,

dann tue ich gut darin, darin sehr klar und eindeutig zu sein.

Then I do well to be very clear and unequivocal about it.

Gerade weil eine Aussage, nicht nur wenn man sie mitnimmt,

Especially because a statement, not just when you take it with you,

mit visuellen Mitteln transportiert, aber dann besonders immer auch sehr, sehr unterschiedlich ausgelegt werden kann.

Transported with visual means, but then can always be interpreted very, very differently.

Ich weiß gar nicht, in welcher Folge das war.

I don’t even know in which episode that was.

Ich habe mal über Friedemann Schulz von Thun und das Vier-Ohren-Konzept gesprochen.

I once talked about Friedemann Schulz von Thun and the Four-Ears Model.

Und in diesem Konzept wird relativ klar, dass eine Sachaussage halt immer eine Meinung mitgesendet,

And in this concept, it becomes relatively clear that a factual statement always conveys an opinion as well.

eine Bedeutung mitgesendet bekommt vom Sender.

receives a meaning sent along by the sender.

Und die reine Sachaussage aber auch vom Empfänger.

And the pure factual statement from the recipient as well.

Und der Empfänger der Botschaft wieder mit Bedeutung aufgeladen wird,

And the recipient of the message is once again filled with meaning,

je nachdem, was er oder sie erlebt hat mit dem Gegenüber oder einer Vergangenheit oder was auch immer.

depending on what he or she has experienced with the other person or a past or whatever.

Und so sieht man, dass es halt sehr, sehr schwer ist, eine Aussage klar zu transportieren

And so it can be seen that it is indeed very, very difficult to convey a statement clearly.

oder möglichst wenig missverständlich.

or as little ambiguous as possible.

Und deshalb kann man den Begriff Keusch gleich bewusst und klar im Verstand und Gefühl

And that's why one can consciously and clearly understand the concept of chastity in both mind and feeling.

halt super gut auf die Bilder, die man macht und deren Aussage beziehen.

It’s really good to refer to the pictures you take and their message.

Klar zu sein in dem, was man tut, also klar im Verstand und im Gefühl,

To be clear in what one does, thus clear in mind and feeling,

macht aber nicht nur in Bezug auf die Bildaussage total viel Sinn,

but it also makes a lot of sense in terms of the image statement.

sondern auch, wenn man auf den kompletten Prozess einer kreativen Handlung schaut.

but also when looking at the complete process of a creative action.

Wenn ich mir überlege, warum wir eigentlich fotografieren,

When I think about why we actually take photos,

dann fallen mir in der Hauptsache zwei Gründe ein.

Then two main reasons come to mind.

Zum einen ist es der Reiz von Fotografie als Ausdrucksmittel

On the one hand, it is the allure of photography as a means of expression.

und das andere das Austoben auf einer unheimlich großen technischen Spielwiese

and the other is letting loose on an incredibly large technical playground

oder eine Kompetenz.

or a competence.

Zum anderen ist es der Reiz von Fotografie als Ausdrucksmittel und das andere das Austoben auf einer unheimlich großen technischen Spielwiese.

On the one hand, it is the appeal of photography as a means of expression, and on the other hand, it is the opportunity to experiment in an incredibly vast technical playground.

Das ist eine Kombination aus beidem, weil Kreativität bedeutet ja nicht unbedingt immer nur Ausdruck,

It is a combination of both, because creativity doesn't necessarily always mean expression.

sondern auch Problemlösungen und Knobeln und vielleicht interessante Mechanismen

but also problem-solving and puzzles and perhaps interesting mechanisms

oder interessante Aufnahmetechniken zu entwickeln.

or to develop interesting recording techniques.

Und das ganz dringende Bedürfnis, das zu tun, also sich entweder auszudrücken

And the very urgent need to do that, to either express oneself

oder halt technisch irgendwas zu entwickeln,

or to develop something technically,

das hat echt das Potenzial, uns in der Fotografie ziemlich maßlos zu machen.

This really has the potential to make us quite excessive in photography.

Und das zeigt sich dann in so Symptomen wie,

And this is then reflected in symptoms such as,

dass wir eine Speicherkarte nach der anderen vollballern

that we fill one memory card after another

oder im Falle unserer Analogies, wir ziehen eine Rolle Film nach dem anderen durch

or in the case of our analogy, we pull one roll of film after another through

und haben hinterher so eine Tüte voll mit Zeug, was es zu entwickeln gilt.

and afterwards have a bag full of stuff that needs to be developed.

Und sich so richtig tief in diesem Akt des Fotografierens zu verlieren,

And to really lose oneself deeply in this act of photographing,

das ist ja eigentlich auch eine Maßlosigkeit, die wirklich gut tut.

That is actually an excess that really feels good.

Also für mich ist das ein Zustand, nach dem ich mich regelmäßig sehne,

So for me, this is a state that I regularly long for,

nicht nur in der Fotografie übrigens, aber auch dort.

not only in photography by the way, but also there.

Und das gilt ja für alle möglichen kreativen Sachen.

And this applies to all sorts of creative things.

Also wenn man in der Lage ist, sich so zu vertiefen,

So when one is able to immerse oneself like that,

dass man die Zeit vergisst und die Umstände vergisst

that one forgets the time and forgets the circumstances

und was einem vielleicht sonst im Moment so durch den Kopf spukt.

and what might be going through one's head at the moment.

Wenn man so arbeiten kann, dann macht das ihren Kopf frei

If you can work like that, it frees your mind.

und ist wahrscheinlich was, was einfach jeder gerne könnte.

and is probably something that everyone would simply like to be able to do.

Bloß ist das irgendwie nicht so leicht und selbstverständlich,

It's just that it's somehow not so easy and obvious.

in diesen Zustand des Flows reinzufinden.

to get into this state of flow.

Also in der Fotografie zu fotografieren, ohne ständig aufs Display zu gehen,

So in photography to take pictures without constantly checking the display,

zu gucken und irgendwie Motive in allem zu finden, auf das man ein Auge wirft

to look and somehow find motives in everything one takes a glance at

und Bild um Bild einzufangen, ohne drüber nachzudenken,

and to capture image after image without thinking about it,

was man hinterher alles an Dateien anschauen und verarbeiten muss

what files one has to look at and process afterwards

oder an Filmen entwickeln muss.

or has to develop in movies.

Das ist eigentlich ein so erstrebenswerter Zustand,

That is actually such a desirable state,

der kann doch keine Sünde sein, oder doch?

That can't be a sin, can it?

Es gibt ein kleines Problem mit diesem Flow,

There is a small problem with this flow,

also diesem für mich ehrlich gesagt heiligen Gral des Kreativismus,

so this, for me, honestly sacred grail of creativity,

des kreativen Arbeitens.

of creative work.

Es ist das Problem, dass dieser Flow so schwer insgesamt schon zu erreichen ist,

The problem is that this flow is already so difficult to achieve overall,

sich oft nicht auf alle Teile des kreativen Prozesses erstrecken mag.

may not often extend to all parts of the creative process.

Der Sausack.

Aber wenn wir uns dann mal anschauen,

was so die typischen Teile eines kreativen Prozesses sind,

what the typical parts of a creative process are,

dann ist es zum einen natürlich erst mal das Erstellen zum Beispiel eines Bildes,

then, of course, it is initially the creation of an image, for example,

das Entwickeln einer Story und das Umsetzen eines.

the development of a story and its implementation.

Also in diesem ersten Teil.

So in this first part.

Und das ist glaube ich etwas, wo es noch, ich sage vergleichsweise einfach ist,

And I believe that is something where it is still, I would say, comparatively easy,

Aber wenn ich auf mich selbst gucke, dann kann ich zum Beispiel sagen,

Natürlich schwankt das, wenn ich jetzt irgendwie weiß,

da sind wirklich ein paar richtige Goldschätzchen dabei,

there are really a few true treasures among them,

dann treibt es mich vielleicht eher ins Labor oder eher vor den Scanner.

Then it might drive me more to the lab or rather in front of the scanner.

Aber grundsätzlich kann ich sagen,

But basically, I can say,

dass es mir manchmal ein Angang ist, mich an die Nachbereitung zu setzen.

that sometimes it's a struggle for me to sit down for the follow-up.

Und es kann durchaus passieren, dass ich nicht vor Hingebung seufze,

Also für mich ist es zum Beispiel der Fall,

dass ich demnächst nach Neuseeland reise

und natürlich jetzt schon überlege, welche Kamera geht mit?

And of course I'm already thinking about which camera to take with me.

Wie verpacke ich die?

How do I pack this?

Wie verteile ich die auf Handgepäck und vielleicht eingechecktes Gepäck?

How do I distribute my items between hand luggage and possibly checked baggage?

Und welche Filme brauche ich und so?

And which movies do I need and so?

Also dieser erste Teil, dass Projekte planen,

So this first part, planning projects,

dass Projekte starten, ist in der Regel etwas, was relativ leicht fällt.

Starting projects is usually something that comes relatively easily.

Für uns alle ist es aber oft so, dass wir keinen Antrieb haben,

For all of us, it often happens that we lack motivation.

halt hinterher, ich sage mal,

wait a minute, I'll say,

den Brot- und Butterteil des Prozesses zu Ende zu bringen.

to finish the bread-and-butter part of the process.

Also die guten Schlüsse von den schlechten zu trennen,

So to separate the good conclusions from the bad,

eine Auswahl zu treffen und so weiter und so fort.

to make a selection and so on and so forth.
