Why one would take on something like this at all, to delve so deeply into the theory.

Ich habe dann nach dem Philosophiestudium, habe ich mich angefangen mit sozialen Problematiken

Es war nicht mein erster Film, aber der erste Film zum Thema Psychose.

It wasn't my first film, but the first film on the topic of psychosis.

Und ich habe über sie erfahren, was möglich ist, dass das Problem lösbar ist, dass es bewältigbar ist.

And I learned from them that what is possible is that the problem is solvable, that it is manageable.

Und ich habe, nachdem ich diesen Film fertig gemacht hatte, ist einfach das Bedürfnis bei mir hängen geblieben,

Und das war vor etwa fünf Jahren, als ich den Jakob Litschig in Zürich kennengelernt habe,

Und das große Glück mit Jakob Litschig war für mich, dass er die Lizenz zum Psychiater verloren hatte.

Ja, wir konnten alles machen miteinander.

Und das war für mich, für ihn eine schmerzhafte Situation, aber für mich als Filmemacher natürlich,

ehrlicherweise auch zu sagen, eine offene Situation, eine offene Arbeitssituation, die wir zusammen hatten.

To honestly say, an open situation, an open work situation that we had together.

Und wir sind gemeinsam sehr tief in diese Thematik dann eingestiegen.

And we delved very deeply into this topic together.

Sie haben drei, vier Jahre intensiv an diesem Thema gearbeitet.

Also am Anfang war natürlich auch die Frage, darf ich das, kann ich das?

Darf ich mit der Karen auf diesen Turm hochgehen?

May I go up the tower with Karen?

Darf ich mit dem Kasper die Szene drehen, wo er mit dem Messer auf dem Sofa sitzt?

May I film the scene with the puppet where he sits on the sofa with the knife?

Wie weit darf ich überhaupt gehen?

How far am I allowed to go?

Und wir haben sehr intensiv, auch da wieder habe ich Jakob sehr viel zu verdanken,

And we have worked very intensively, and again I owe a lot to Jakob.

wir haben sehr intensiv und über sehr lange Zeit uns immer über diese Fragen ausgetauscht.

We have intensely discussed these questions over a long period of time.

Wie weit können wir gehen?

How far can we go?

Und es ist in mir über die Zeit der Vorbereitung eigentlich die Gewissheit gewachsen, dass ich das darf.

And over the course of the preparation time, the certainty has actually grown within me that I am allowed to do this.

Weil der Jakob hat dann zu mir immer wieder gesagt, selbst wenn auf dem Dreh etwas Schreckliches passiert,

Because Jakob always told me, even if something terrible happens during the shoot,

passieren wird es auch sonst.

It will happen otherwise as well.

Nur wir haben dann, oder du hast dann dieser Situation Beachtung geschenkt.

Only we have then, or you have then paid attention to this situation.

Und wenn du das nicht machst, dann spricht überhaupt niemand drüber.

And if you don't do it, then nobody will talk about it at all.

Und das ist für mich irgendwann zu einer Aufgabe geworden.

And that has become a task for me at some point.

Und der andere Punkt der Veränderung ist sicher auch die Angst, die ich in mir überwinden musste,

And the other point of change is certainly the fear that I had to overcome within myself,

an solche Situationen heranzugehen.

Auch zu lernen, wie kann ich mit den Leuten umgehen, die durch diese schwierigen Situationen durchgehen.

So when you meet people like that,

sind sie einem zuerst sehr fremd und fast bedrohlich.

Sind sie im Laufe der Zeit ihnen sehr vertraut geworden?

Oder gab es immer noch bis am Schluss einen Rest von Fremdheit?

Or was there still a lingering sense of foreignness until the very end?

Ich kann nicht sagen, die Leute, oder?

I can't say the people, can I?

Für mich sind das jetzt, ja, sind nicht, die stehen nicht auf der anderen Seite.

For me, they are not, yes, they are not on the other side.

Der Film ist eigentlich ein einziger Versuch, zu zeigen, dass die nicht einfach auf der anderen Seite stehen,

The film is actually just one big attempt to show that they are not simply on the other side.

wo ich, wo es was zu lernen gibt, wo es was zu entdecken gibt,

where I can learn something, where there is something to discover,

wo eine Erfahrung, ja, ich kann unheimlich, wenn Leute so durchs Chaos gehen

Where an experience, yes, I can be incredibly when people go through chaos like that.

and attempt to rebuild their world, their spiritual world,

Er hat dann Buddhismus kennengelernt und hat, für mich ist im Film diese Stelle,

wo er über Mami, Daddy redet, ja, das ist wie die Schnittstelle eigentlich, ja.
