RhineCleanUp - Tausende sammeln Müll an Flüssen

Plastikmüll im Meer. Ein Problem, das viele Menschen ziemlich hautnah wahrnehmen,

An den Flüssen aufräumen bedeutet also, dem Meer Plastikmüll zu ersparen.

Diese Erkenntnis stand ganz am Anfang der Aktion RheinCleanUp, auf Deutsch den Rhein aufräumen.

This realization was at the very beginning of the action RhineCleanUp, in German "den Rhein aufräumen."

Los ging es damit im Jahr 2018 und schon damals, bei der ersten Ausgabe des Aktionstags,

It all started in 2018, and even back then, at the first edition of the action day,

machten 10.000 Menschen mit.

In fünf Anrainerländern des Flusses, von der Quelle bis zur Mündung,

In five riparian countries of the river, from the source to the mouth,

zogen sie los mit Müllsäcken, Handschuhen und Greifzangen und sammelten an den Ufern des Flusses den Müll ein.

They set off with garbage bags, gloves, and pick-up sticks and collected trash along the riverbanks.

Seitdem findet dieser Aufräumtag jedes Jahr am zweiten Samstag im September statt.

Since then, this cleanup day has taken place every year on the second Saturday in September.

Im vergangenen Jahr machten 50.000 Menschen mit und sammelten dabei etwa 300 Tonnen Müll ein.

Last year, 50,000 people participated and collected about 300 tons of trash.

Für dieses Jahr rechnen die Veranstalter in etwa mit der gleichen Größenordnung,
