Doch im Licht von Gottes Wort sind sie auf einmal unwichtig.

Ja, vielleicht sogar falsch.

Dagegen werden auf einmal ganz andere Dinge wichtig.

Denn weil die Welt durch ihre Weisheit Gott in seiner Weisheit nicht erkannte,

Kommen wir zum zweiten Teil des Verses 21.

Die Juden sehen auch das Erfüllen des Gesetzes

und erwarten Wunder.

Haben sie nicht zu Lebzeiten Jesu genug Wunder gesehen?

Did they not see enough miracles during the lifetime of Jesus?

Mensch, wenn die Bibel schon von so vielen Wundern berichtet,

wie viele Wunder, was dann Jesus noch gemacht haben,

how many miracles Jesus still did,

ohne dass sie aufgeschrieben worden sind.

Wunder verblassen.

Wonders fade.

Für beide Parteien kann ein schwacher Gott am Kreuz

als Mitte des Glaubens nur etwas Lächerliches sein,

as a mere ridiculous thing in the middle of faith,

beziehungsweise ein Skandal.

or a scandal.

Und das zeigt uns genau der nächste Vers.

And the next verse shows us that exactly.

Wir dagegen verkündigen Christus als den Gekreuzigten,

als den Messias, als den von Gott versprochenen Retter.

as the Messiah, as the savior promised by God.

Für die Juden ein Ärgernis, ein Anstoß, ein Skandal,

For the Jews a stumbling block, a offense, a scandal,

Und für die Nichtjuden, die Heiden, die anderen Völker,

And for the non-Jews, the Gentiles, the other nations,

eine Torheit, eine Dummheit, völliger Unsinn.

Kennen wir sie nicht, die Menschen,

Don't we know them, the people,

die gerne arrogant auf alles herabsehen,

was aus ihrer Sicht blödsinnig ist?

Und gehören wir nicht manchmal auch dazu?

Nach Weisheit, Verstehbarkeit, Logik und Vernunft.

Das macht doch alles gar keinen Sinn,

That doesn't make any sense at all.

Deine Geschichten vom Kreuz.

Your stories of the cross.

Wenn Gott die Welt retten will,

If God wants to save the world,

wieso wählt er dann diesen merkwürdigen, verstörenden Weg?

Why does he then choose this strange, disturbing path?

Aber Gott hat genau dieses Bild gewählt

But God has chosen exactly this image.

und diesen Weg beschritten.

and walked this path.

Kommen wir zum letzten Vers.

Für diejenigen hingegen,

die von Gott berufen sind,

those who are called by God,

Juden wie Nichtjuden oder Griechen,

ist bzw. weist sich der gekreuzigte Christus

Gott beruft zum Glauben durch die Verkündigung seines Wortes.

God calls to faith through the proclamation of His word.

In Christus wird Paulus Gottes Kraft und Weisheit greifbar für Paulus.

In Christ, Paul experiences God's power and wisdom as tangible.

Schwachheit und Torheit bekommen eine von Gott geprägte

Weakness and folly receive a stamp from God.

und veränderte Bedeutung.

and changed meaning.

Natürlich leben wir Menschen lieber an und nach Ostern als an Karfreitag.

Of course, we humans prefer to live at and after Easter rather than on Good Friday.

Der Gott, der da auferstanden ist, ist doch viel lieber und schöner.

The God who has risen is much more beloved and beautiful after all.

Aber Ostern ist ohne Karfreitag nicht denkbar.

But Easter is inconceivable without Good Friday.

Nur über Karfreitag führt der Weg zu Ostern.

Only through Good Friday does the path lead to Easter.

Das Bild vom Kreuz passt nicht in das Standardbild von einem Gott.

The image of the cross does not fit the standard image of a god.

Es ist die unkenntlichste Todesart für Verbrecher.

Wie könnte ein solcher Gott uns Menschen verstehen,

How could such a God understand us humans,

unser Leben, unsere Freude, unser Leid nachvollziehen,

understand our life, our joy, our sorrow,

ja, fühlen, wenn er nicht selbst so tief gegangen wäre,

yes, feel, if he hadn't gone so deep himself,

dass er die größten Probleme, die größten Schwierigkeiten,

that he has the biggest problems, the greatest difficulties,

das Letzten, Dümmsten, Unterdrücktesten wie auch immer Menschen auf der Welt selbst durchgemacht hätte?

the last, dumbest, most oppressed people in the world would have gone through it themselves?

Wie könnte ich einen Gott anhimmeln,

How could I worship a God,

der mich nicht kennt, beziehungsweise mich nicht versteht, der nur über mir steht.

who does not know me, or rather does not understand me, who only looks down on me.

Dem bin, beziehungsweise dem wäre ich doch wirklich völlig egal.

I would really be completely indifferent to that.

Durch Jesu Tod am Kreuz, das müssen wir uns einfach reinziehen,

Through Jesus' death on the cross, we just have to truly absorb this.

hat sich Gott selbst in unsere Hand, in unseren Verstand und in unser Herz hineinbegeben.

God has placed Himself into our hands, into our understanding, and into our hearts.

Ganz direkt hinein.

Straight in.

Wir brauchen uns Gott nicht vorzustellen.

We do not need to imagine God.

Denn das Einzigartige an unserem Gott ist, dass er sich uns selbst vorstellt.

For the unique thing about our God is that He presents Himself to us.

Er stellt sich dir vor.

He introduces himself to you.

In seiner Art, in seiner grenzenlosen Liebe, von der wir mehr als nur einen Hauch erlebten,

In its nature, in its limitless love, of which we experienced more than just a glimpse,

als er sich selbst in Menschengestalt zu uns, seinen Geschöpfen begab

when he took on human form and came to us, his creations

und sich in Jesus am Kreuz sogar von uns abschlachten ließ,

zeigte Gott uns seine Macht, indem er auferstand von den Toten,

Ihr Lieben, ich habe euch jetzt wahrscheinlich ziemlich gestresst

und vielleicht wird das eine oder andere auch nicht in euren Köpfen hängenbleiben.

Ich möchte aber eines nochmal am Schluss sagen, ganz deutlich betonen,
