Ich lese den Bibeltext für die heute Predigt aus Römer 8, ab Vers 14.

I am reading the Bible text for today's sermon from Romans 8, starting at verse 14.

Alle, die sich von Gottes Geist leiten lassen, sind seine Söhne und Töchter.

All who are led by the Spirit of God are his sons and daughters.

Denn der Geist, den ihr empfangen habt, macht euch nicht zu Sklaven,

For the spirit you received does not make you slaves,

sodass ihr von Neuem in Angst und Furcht leben müsstet.

so that you would have to live in fear and terror again.

Er hat euch zu Söhnen und Töchtern gemacht,

He has made you sons and daughters.

und durch ihn rufen wir, wenn wir beten, Abba, Vater.

and through him we cry, "Abba, Father," when we pray.

Ja, der Geist selbst bezeugt es uns in unserem Innersten,

Yes, the Spirit itself bears witness to us in our innermost being,

dass wir Gottes Kinder sind.

that we are God's children.

Wenn wir aber Kinder sind, sind wir auch Erben.

But when we are children, we are also heirs.

Erben Gottes und Miterben mit Christus.

Heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.

Dazu gehört allerdings, dass wir jetzt mit ihm leiden,

This does mean that we are now suffering with him,

dann werden wir auch seiner Herrlichkeit teilhaben.

then we will also share in his glory.

Also wir haben, das hat Marleen uns eben erläutert,

So we have, as Marleen just explained to us,

wir haben eine Predigtreihe, die beschäftigt sich mit Wachstum,

We have a sermon series that deals with growth.

mit geistlichem Wachstum, mit Wurzeln, mit Ingwerknollen oder was auch immer wir haben,

with spiritual growth, with roots, with ginger rhizomes, or whatever we have,

und mit Früchten.

and with fruits.

Also Wurzeln mit etwas, was sozusagen so, wo man Nährstoffe aufzieht.

So roots with something that is, so to speak, where nutrients are raised.

Also das ist das natürlich,

So that is the natural,

diese Wurzeln angedockt sein müssen, damit von dort Früchte entstehen können.

these roots must be attached so that fruits can arise from there.

Also auf der anderen Seite die Früchte.

So on the other side the fruits.

Früchte ist nichts anderes ja als Zeichen von Wachstum, demonstriertes Wachstum.

Fruits are nothing but signs of growth, demonstrated growth.

Also wenn die Wurzeln richtig liegen, dann wächst es auch, dann gibt es auch Früchte.

So if the roots are in the right place, it will grow, and there will also be fruit.

Wir haben uns, wenn wir das mal im Überblick schauen,

When we look at it in overview, we have...

in der Predigtreihe bislang beschäftigt mit den Wurzeln, mit vier Wurzeln.

In the sermon series so far focused on the roots, with four roots.

Und zwar haben wir uns beschäftigt mit den Themen Bibel,

And in fact, we have been dealing with the topics of the Bible,

das ist die eine Wurzel, die zweite Wurzel, Anbetung.

that is the one root, the second root, worship.

Wir haben uns mit Gemeinschaft beschäftigt und mit Gebet.

We have engaged with community and with prayer.

Das sind vier Wurzeln.

These are four roots.

Ich habe schon letztes Mal gesagt, diese Wurzeln sind gelegt worden.

I already said last time that these roots have been laid.

Da hat Dorma mal gesagt, das hört sich so nach Zahnarzt an.

Dorma once said, that sounds so much like a dentist.

Aber diese vier Wurzeln, die haben wir uns angeschaut.

But we have looked at these four roots.

Und mit denen wir uns heute befassen, ist mit den Früchten.

And what we are dealing with today are the fruits.

Mit den Früchten, die wachsen, wenn diese Wurzeln richtig,

With the fruits that grow when these roots are right,

richtig positioniert sind, um nicht zu sagen, gelegt sind.

are correctly positioned, not to say placed.

Und zwar heute mit der ersten Wurzel, mit der ersten Frucht, nämlich Identität.

And today with the first root, with the first fruit, namely identity.

Marlen hat das eben gesagt, Identität, das ist ein Begriff.

Marlen just said that, identity, that is a concept.

Und wenn wir uns gleich mal auf den Weg machen, was das eigentlich heißt,

Identität, dann werden wir das so ein bisschen mal noch ausleuchten.

Herr großer Gott, du bist hier, das hast du versprochen.

Du bist derjenige, der jeden Einzelnen hier, der mich gemacht hat.

You are the one who made every single person here.

Du bist derjenige, der uns sagen kann, wer wir sind.

You are the one who can tell us who we are.

Und meine Bitte, Herr, ist, dass uns das heute gelingt, dass du uns dazu hilfst,

And my plea, Lord, is that we succeed in this today, that you help us with it,

dass wir offen sind für das, was du uns sagen willst und dass wir erkennen,

that we are open to what you want to say to us and that we recognize,

dass du uns viel mehr kennst, als wir das erahnen und dass du uns viel mehr zusagst,

that you know us much better than we can imagine, and that you suit us much more,

als wir uns das vorstellen können.

Well, first fruit, identity, and as it should be for a sermon.

Drei Punkte.

Also, keine Überraschung, drei Punkte.

Der erste Punkt, meine Identität, freie Wahl, Fragezeichen.

The first point, my identity, free choice, question mark.

Zweiter Punkt, meine Identität, keine Wahl, Punkt.

Second point, my identity, no choice, period.

Und der dritte Punkt, meine Identität, seine Wahl, Ausrufezeichen.

And the third point, my identity, his choice, exclamation mark.

Okay, drei Punkte.

Lass uns mit dem ersten starten.

Let's start with the first one.

Das ist immer gut.

That is always good.

Das ist eine gute Idee.

That is a good idea.

Meine Identität, freie Wahl, Fragezeichen.

Ich habe vor vielen Jahren, das ist wirklich schon lange her,

I did that many years ago, it really was a long time ago,

habe ich mal ein spannendes Buch gelesen.

I once read an exciting book.

Dieses Buch heißt Sophie's Welt.

This book is called Sophie's World.

Kennt ihr das?

Do you know that?

Jostein Gårda, wie die Norwegen sagen, norwegischer Autor.

Jostein Gårda, as the Norwegians say, Norwegian author.

Und dieses Buch, das fängt mit einer Frage an.

And this book begins with a question.

Und zwar ist die Hauptdarstellerin in diesem Buch die kleine Sophie,

And indeed, the main character in this book is little Sophie,

wer weiß, wie sie heißt?

Who knows what her name is?

Jemand hat das Buch auch gelesen?

Has someone read the book too?

Sophie, ihr Nachnamen?

Sophie, your last name?

Amundsen, wie halt man in Norwegen heißt.

Amundsen, as one is called in Norway.

Sophie Amundsen.

Sophie Amundsen.

Also Sophie Amundsen bekommt einen Brief.

So Sophie Amundsen receives a letter.

Und in diesem Brief steht eine Frage.

Auf dem Zettel, so heißt es in dem Buch, stand, wer bist du?

On the note, it says in the book, who are you?

Nur drei Worte.

Just three words.

Das Interessante ist,

The interesting thing is,

dass mir diese Frage, ähnlich wie Sophie, ist mir die auch begegnet.

That this question has also occurred to me, similar to Sophie.

Ich war im Februar, war ich auf einer Klausurtagung.

I was at a retreat in February.

Ich habe so einen Job, noch so ein Amt.

I have such a job, such a position.

Da bin ich Vorsitzender eines Aufsichtsrates

Und da saßen wir zusammen und am Samstagmorgen,

And there we sat together on Saturday morning,

wir hatten schon den ersten Abend hinter uns,

we had already gotten through the first evening,

saßen wir beim Frühstück und alle sind so nach und nach gegangen.

We were sitting at breakfast and everyone left one by one.

Und ich saß dann noch zusammen mit Matthias Ruf.

And I was then sitting together with Matthias Ruf.

Matthias Ruf ist der Leiter von einem großen,

Matthias Ruf is the head of a large,

diakonischen Werk.

diaconal work.

Der ist mit mir zusammen in diesem Aufsichtsrat.

He is on this supervisory board with me.

Und er sagte mir an diesem Morgen, als wir nur noch beide da saßen,

And he told me that morning, as we were just sitting there together,

sagte er, Henrik, Henrik, du bist in einem Alter,

he said, Henrik, Henrik, you are at an age,

da sollte man sich mal eine Frage stellen.

One should ask oneself a question there.

Machst du eigentlich etwas so regelmäßig,

Do you actually do something regularly?

wo du nicht groß nachdenken musst?

where you don't have to think too much?

Irgend so was Wiederkehrendes, ständig Wiederkehrendes?

Something like a recurrence, something that constantly recurs?

Und da habe ich ihm gesagt, also mein Job, ganz ehrlich,

And then I told him, so my job, quite honestly,

sieht ein bisschen anders aus.

looks a bit different.

Also ich sortiere keine Schrauben oder so.

So I don't sort screws or anything like that.

Und dann sagt er, ja, aber läufst du?

And then he says, yes, but are you running?

Also joggst du?

So you jog?

Dann habe ich gesagt, nee, nee, das ist überhaupt nicht meins.

Then I said, no, no, that's not my thing at all.

Also wirklich gar nicht.

So really not at all.

Aber was ich mache, ich fahre Fahrrad.

But what I do is ride a bike.

Also wenn ich es kann, dann fahre ich von Saasel,

So if I can, then I will drive from Saasel,

wo wir wohnen, in die Innenstadt, da wo ich arbeite.

where we live, in the city center, where I work.

Das sind so ungefähr 35, naja, das ist jetzt übertrieben.

That's about 35, well, that's an exaggeration now.

Wäre schön, wäre schön.

It would be nice, it would be nice.

Okay, es sind eher 45 Minuten.

Aber 45 Minuten, wo ich Zeit habe, etwas Wiederkehrendes zu machen,

Wenn wir über Identität nachdenken und über die Frage Wer bist du?

Da müssen viele Psychologen, müssen zur Sprache kommen.

Und was ich mich gefragt habe ist, und das ist Fahrraddenken, quasi, wenn man die ganze

Zeit so radelt, wie bestimmt sich eigentlich Identität, also wie formt sich das denn,

Time cycles, but how is identity actually determined, how does it take shape?

wer ich bin?

who am I?

Also wie wird meine Identität geformt?

So how is my identity formed?

Und es ist gefährlich, aber ich bin jetzt so in einem Alter, ich sage jetzt nicht wie

And it is dangerous, but I am now at an age where I won’t say how old I am.

Aber ich bin in so einem Alter, da kommt man langsam zu dem Punkt, wo man den Satz sagt,

"But I am at an age where you slowly come to the point of saying the sentence,"

früher war alles besser.

Everything was better in the past.

Also da merkt man, also meine Kinder merken daran, dass ich alt werde, also früher war

So they notice, my children notice that I am getting older, I mean, I used to be younger.

alles besser.

everything is better.

Und tatsächlich, manchmal könnte man sich denken bei der Frage, wer ich bin, also bei

And indeed, sometimes one might wonder when it comes to the question of who I am, so when

der Frage, wer gibt mir die Antwort, wer ich bin, da war früher alles besser.

the question of who gives me the answer to who I am, everything was better back then.

Warum?

Why?

Das war ziemlich simpel.

Das war früher das Elternhaus.

Deine Art von Erziehung, deine Tradition, in der du groß geworden bist, das Milieu,

in which you grew up, maybe what your parents did, the jobs,

die sie gemacht haben, den Laden, den sie geführt haben, all das gibt schon ziemlich

what they have done, the shop they ran, all that is quite something already

Also das, wozu andere dich gemacht haben.

So that, which others have made you.

Das ist aber alles besser, kann man sich ja fragen, aber wie ist es denn heute?

But that is all better, you might ask yourself, but how is it today?

Und heute ist es doch scheinbar, scheinbar besser.

And today it seems, it seems better.

Scheinbar einfacher.

Apparently easier.

Ich habe mehr Freiheit oder ich habe mehr Wahl, also ich kann mir sozusagen mehr aussuchen,

I have more freedom or I have more choice, so I can choose more, so to speak.

wer ich bin oder jetzt mal, muss mir nicht sagen lassen von anderen, lass uns das nochmal

Who I am or what I am now doesn't need to be told to me by others, let's do this again.

gucken, ist doch so ein bisschen American Dream, oder?

Also ich kann mir meine eigene Identität schaffen heutzutage.

So I can create my own identity nowadays.

Also ich kann meinen Namen frei wählen.

So I can choose my name freely.

Ne?

Huh?

Und das geht, gibt es ein paar gesetzliche Beschränkungen.

And that is possible, there are a few legal restrictions.

Ich kann inzwischen mein Geschlecht einmal im Jahr wechseln.

I can now change my gender once a year.

Ich kann sogar meinen Todestag selbst bestimmen.

I can even determine my own day of death.

Ich kann mein Öffentlichkeitsprofil gestalten, wie ich wahrgenommen werden will.

I can shape my public profile the way I want to be perceived.

Jetzt kommen zu den jungen Leuten, da oben sage ich mal, ihr kennt das, Insta.

Now let's talk about the young people, up there I would say, you know that, Insta.

Ja?

Yes?

Meine Kinder würden sagen, Instagram gibt es auch für Erwachsene, für so Business People

My kids would say that Instagram is also for adults, for business people like that.

Das heißt dann LinkedIn.

Also das kannst du da alles machen.

So you can do all of that there.

Da kannst du deine Identität selbst schaffen.

Ich bin frei.

Ich bestimme, wer ich bin.

I determine who I am.

Die Freiheit nehme ich mir.

Die Freiheit ruft.

Freedom calls.

Just do it.

Weil ich es will.

Because I want it.

Weil ich es kann.

Because I can.

Irgendwie komisch, oder?

Somehow strange, isn't it?

Sind alles Werbeslogans.

They are all advertising slogans.

Wir haben freie Wahl?

Do we have free choice?

Fragezeichen.

Halt.

Wirklich?

Really?

Wenn wir zum zweiten Punkt kommen, dann sehen wir die Diagnose der Folie, äh, die Diagnose

der Bibel.

Was wir gleich auf der Folie lesen werden, ist eine andere.

zu geben, wer wir sind, ja?

Denn die Bibel stammt, wenn wir das glauben, von dem, der uns geschaffen hat, von dem,

For the Bible comes, if we believe it, from the one who created us, from the

der uns gemacht hat, der hier jeden Einzelnen gemacht hat.

who has made us, who has made each and every one of us here.

Was sagt uns die Bibel?

What does the Bible say to us?

Gehen wir in den Text rein.

Let's get into the text.

In der Text sagt, wenn ihr das gelesen habt, in dem Vers 15, der Geist, den ihr empfangen

In the text it says, when you have read this, in verse 15, the Spirit you received

habt, der macht euch nicht zu Sklaven, sodass ihr von Neuem in Angst und Furcht leben müsstet.

have not made you slaves, so that you would have to live again in fear and dread.

Wenn ihr das lest, ja, nicht zu Sklaven, sodass ihr von Neuem in Angst und Furcht leben

If you read this, yes, not to be slaves, so that you live in fear and dread again.

müsstet, dann beschreibt offensichtlich die Bibel eine Art Grundzustand.

You would have to, then the Bible obviously describes a kind of base state.

Von Neuem heißt ja, das war mal vorher so.

"From anew means that it was once so before."

Und ganz ehrlich, wenn wir von Sklaven lesen, dann ist das doch eigentlich das Gegenteil

And to be honest, when we read about slaves, it's actually the opposite.

von Freiheit, nicht wahr?

About freedom, isn't it?

Oder Sklaverei ist irgendwie der Gegenbegriff zu Freiheit.

Or slavery is somehow the opposite of freedom.

Aber hier steckt der Befund.

But here lies the diagnosis.

Der Mensch, du und ich, ein Sklaven.

The man, you and I, a slave.

Du bist ein Sklave.

You are a slave.

Die ITler unter euch, die wissen, zu jedem Slave gehört ein Master.

The IT people among you know that every slave has a master.

Also jeder Sklave hat einen Meister.

So every slave has a master.

Und dann gucken wir mal, ob das wirklich so ist.

And then we'll see if that's really the case.

Schauen wir mal an, ob wir da nicht einen Meister haben.

Let's see if we have a master there.

Also wenn die Bibel von uns sagt, wir sind Sklaven, ob es da irgendwo einen Meister gibt,

So when the Bible says that we are slaves, whether there is a master somewhere.

Wie sieht das aus, wenn du mit einer Gruppe von Menschen zusammen bist?

Die einer anderen Liga angehören.

To belong to a different league.

Keine Fußballwitze jetzt, sondern einfach, du bist mit Menschen zusammen,

No soccer jokes now, just simply, you are with people together,

die einer anderen Liga angehören.

that belong to a different league.

Also Menschen, die mehr wissen, die vielleicht eine bessere Karriere gemacht haben,

So people who know more, who may have had a better career,

die irgendwie Titel tragen, die mehr Geld haben, die besser reden können,

who somehow hold titles, who have more money, who can speak better,

die besser aussehen, die schlanker sind als du,

who look better, who are slimmer than you,

die die tollen Bilder auf Insta oder LinkedIn präsentieren,

those who showcase the great pictures on Insta or LinkedIn,

ihre Karriereerfolge vermarkten.

Market their career successes.

Was ist das, wenn du mit den Menschen zusammen bist?

What is it when you are with people?

Was macht das mit deinem Selbstbewusstsein?

What does that do to your self-confidence?

Drängt sich da irgendwie so ein Neid nach vorne?

Is there somehow a sense of envy pushing forward?

Ziehst du dann eher den Bauch ein?

Do you tend to pull in your stomach then?

Spürst du, dass da irgendwie dein Selbstbewusstsein in den Keller geht,

Do you feel like your self-confidence is somehow going down the drain?

dass du glaubst, da kannst du nicht mithalten?

That you think you can’t keep up with that?
