Frau Kalhor, gibt es eine Eigenschaft neben dem Mut, die Ihnen sofort einfällt, wenn Sie an die Frauen Irans denken?

Ms. Kalhor, is there a quality besides courage that comes to mind when you think of the women of Iran?

Ja, ich denke, was ich sehe in meiner Generation und in der nächsten Generation, dieser Generation Z, ist ihr Mut und dass sie an ihre Kraft und Energie glauben,

Also jetzt ist noch eine andere Generation im Prinzip auf der Straße, oder?

Genau. Ich bin Mitte des Kriegs Iran-Irak im Iran in einer sehr konservativen Familie geboren und aufgewachsen.

Exactly. I was born and raised in Iran in a very conservative family in the middle of the Iran-Iraq War.

Und Brainwashing war eigentlich erste Linie in dieser Zeit.

And brainwashing was actually the top priority during that time.

Und wir hatten und wir sind immer noch mit großen Ängsten und haben wir kaum gesehen, dass es eigentlich unsere Rechte anders ist, als die uns vorschreiben.

And we had, and we are still facing great fears and have scarcely seen that our rights are actually different from what is prescribed to us.

Und man sieht die nächste Generation, die Teenagers, Junge.

And you can see the next generation, the teenagers, young people.

Und Mädchen, die sind ganz anders. Die haben diesen Unterdruck unbewusst oder bewusst nicht.

And girls, they are completely different. They do not have this reverse pressure, either unconsciously or consciously.

Und die Familien stehen auch hinter ihren Kindern und nicht islamische Regime-Ideologie.

Nathalie Amiri muss ich Ihnen auch noch näher vorstellen, wenn es überhaupt nötig ist, weil sie ist bekannt aus dem Fernsehen.

Wie haben Sie die ausgesucht?

How did you choose those?

Es war ja bestimmt nicht einfach.

It certainly wasn't easy.

Es war nicht einfach, sich dann auf Frauen zu einigen, weil man, also ich, nach so vielen Jahren im Iran,

It wasn't easy to agree on women after so many years in Iran, because I...

hätte eigentlich mit jeder Frau bis ins letzte Dorf ein Interview führen.

I could have actually conducted an interview with every woman up to the last village.

Können, weil für mich alle Frauen im Iran mutig sind.

Can, because for me all women in Iran are brave.

Mir ist selten eine Frau begegnet, die nicht mutig war.

I have rarely come across a woman who was not brave.

Egal, ob sie religiös war, egal, ob sie traditionell war oder sehr modern.

It didn't matter whether she was religious, whether she was traditional or very modern.

Ob es die Generation derjenigen war, die auf die Straße gegangen sind, damals gegen den Schah oder die dann 2009 bei der grünen Bewegung auf der Straße waren.

Whether it was the generation of those who took to the streets against the Shah back then or those who were on the streets during the Green Movement in 2009.

Am mutigsten, muss ich aber sagen, ist die Generation Z, die sich einfach nichts mehr sagen lässt.

But I must say that the bravest is Generation Z, who simply won't let anyone tell them anything anymore.

Und die Generationen davor, die auch schon mutig waren, schauen aber auf diese Generation Z und sagen, wow, wir haben uns das nicht getraut.

Es ist ja auch ein Interview drin mit der Nobelpreisträgerin, 1947 geboren, Ebadi, die damals ja auch schon auf die Straße gegangen ist, 1979 und jetzt in London lebt.

Sie war ja Richterin im Iran, dann kam die islamische Revolution, zuerst zunächst eigentlich die iranische Revolution und dann wurde sie gekapert von den Islamisten.

She was a judge in Iran, then the Islamic Revolution came, first actually the Iranian Revolution, and then it was hijacked by the Islamists.

Sie ist auch damals mit Kopftuch auf die Straße gegangen, gegen den Schah.

She also went out onto the streets with a headscarf back then, against the Shah.

Damals war eine Generation auf der Straße, die sich gegen den Imperialismus stellen wollten.

Back then, there was a generation on the streets that wanted to stand against imperialism.

Gegen Demokratie. Demokratie war ein kein positiv behafteter Begriff.

Against democracy. Democracy was not a positively connoted term.

Sie wollten sich befreien.

They wanted to free themselves.

Sie dachten, wenn der Khomeini kommt, Ayatollah Khomeini und der Schah gestürzt ist, würden sie zu mehr Freiheit kommen.

They thought that when Khomeini comes, Ayatollah Khomeini, and the Shah is overthrown, they would achieve more freedom.

Und am Ende haben sie mitgewirkt an ihrem eigenen Ende.

And in the end, they contributed to their own demise.

Das hat sie aber auch später geschrieben.

But she wrote that later as well.

Das musste sie erst mal verdauen und es hat erst mal gedauert, bis sie es begriffen hat.

She first had to digest that, and it took her a while to comprehend it.

Sie schreibt auch unter anderem,

oder sagte mir auch, es ist ein Sprichwort im Iran, das ist nicht nur Shirin Ebadi, die dieses Sprichwort immer wieder sagt,

Geboren 1984 in Teheran, das habe ich schon gesagt, dort aufgewachsen und dort studiert.

Und 2009 waren sie dann auf dem Internationalen Filmfestival in München, auf dem Filmfestival der Menschenrechte

Was hat Ihnen damals den Mut gegeben, 2009?

Wie gesagt, ich kann so persönlich sagen, als eine Filmemacherin und auch geboren in einer sehr konservativen Familie,

die immer noch auch teilweise von Väterseite in der Regierung sind.

who are still partly in the government on the father's side.

Kann man vielleicht ganz kurz sagen, dass Ihr Vater Medienberater war?

Can we perhaps say very briefly that your father was a media consultant?

Genau.

Exactly.

Vom ehemaligen Präsidenten?

From the former president?

Ja, aber wir hatten keinen Kontakt mit ihm, aber der ist mein Vater.

Yes, but we had no contact with him, but he is my father.

Genau, meine Eltern waren getrennt.

Exactly, my parents were separated.

Aber interessant ist es auch, was Nathalie sagt.

But it's also interesting what Nathalie says.

Ich denke, Grundbewegung.

I think, basic movement.

Ich sehe, dass alles von der Frauenwiderstand in der Laufe der Zeit Schritt bei Schritt so ihren Mut

Und Grundbewegung damals war unser damaliger Widerstand.

And the fundamental movement back then was our resistance at that time.

Wir waren nicht wie jetzt, dass wir sagen, islamischer Regime ganz weg.

We were not like now, where we say to completely remove the Islamic regime.

Wir haben gesagt, wo ist unsere Wahl?

We said, where is our choice?

Und wir sind auf die Straße gegangen.

And we went out into the street.

Und es war mir so bewusst, wenn ich nicht an dieses Kopftuch glaube, dann lasse ich dieses Kopftuch.

And I was so aware that if I don’t believe in this headscarf, then I will let go of this headscarf.

Damals, als ich ohne Kopftuch in Nürnberg war, war es schon allein ein Widerstand,

Back then, when I was in Nuremberg without a headscarf, it was already a form of resistance.

weil durfte man nicht dieses Bild als eine Frau aus dem Iran in den westlichen Medien zeigen.

Because one was not allowed to show this image as a woman from Iran in the western media.

Aber wie gesagt, wir sind immer noch mit großen Ängsten,

But as I said, we are still dealing with great fears,

weil wir am Anfang der Revolution auf die Welt gekommen sind.

because we were born at the beginning of the revolution.

Und in der Schiene von den Filmschaffenden, muss ich jetzt so aktuell sagen,

And in the perspective of the filmmakers, I must say now, so current,

300 Filmschaffende im Iran nach dem Revolutionenprozess, wo man live redet, vor zwei Jahren,

300 filmmakers in Iran after the revolutionary process, where one speaks live, two years ago,

die sind in Arbeit verboten.

They are prohibited in work.

Das heißt, die Frauen und Männer auch im Kulturfilmbereich, die kämpfen weiterhin in ihrer Arbeit.

That means the women and men in the cultural film sector continue to fight in their work.

Und viele machen Underground-Filme, wie damals, als ich das gemacht habe, ohne Kopftuch.

And many are making underground movies, like back then when I did it, without a headscarf.

Die schaffen das im Ausland zu schicken.

They manage to send it abroad.

Und die Teil von den Frauen, dass die im Filmgeschäft allein aktiv sind,

And the part of the women who are active in the film industry alone,

am Anfang der Revolution bis heute, ist es fast genau die Hälfte von Männern.

Since the beginning of the revolution until today, it is almost exactly half of men.

Das kann man echt vergleichen mit Deutschlands Kino.

You can really compare that to Germany's cinema.

Es ist unglaublich.

It is incredible.

Es ist unglaublich, wie Frauen so weitersehen.

It is incredible how women can see things this way.

Und wahnsinnig modern.

And incredibly modern.

Wie funktioniert das?

How does that work?

Das werde ich nie ganz verstehen.

I will never fully understand that.

Oder helfen Sie mir, es zu verstehen.

Or help me to understand it.

Ich kann mich vergleichen mit meiner Mutter und meiner Großmutter und Urgroßmutter.

I can compare myself to my mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Ich denke, in unseren Generationen, der Schritt ist vielleicht so,

I think, in our generations, the step is perhaps such,

der Unterschied ist 30, 40 Jahre, aber gefühlt 300 Jahre Unterschied.

The difference is 30, 40 years, but it feels like a difference of 300 years.

Das heißt, wir Frauen, jede nach anderen Generationen, haben eine wahnsinnig schmerzhafte neue Geburt.

That means we women, each from different generations, have an incredibly painful new birth.

Das heißt, wir kämpfen so ideologisch durch in einer traditionellen Gesellschaft,

That means we ideologically fight through in a traditional society,

dass wir 300 Jahre vor unseren Eltern und Großeltern sind.

that we are 300 years ahead of our parents and grandparents.

Deswegen ist es von westlicher Seite sehr schwierig überhaupt zu begreifen, was macht ihr da.

That's why it's very difficult for the western side to even understand what you are doing there.

Aber es stimmt.

But it's true.

Das heißt, Generation Z ist ungefähr 200 Jahre sogar vor mir.

That means Generation Z is about 200 years even before me.

Von der Mentalität und Bewusstsein, von ihrem Körper, von ihrem Geschlecht und alles, was sie sich wünschen als ein Mensch.

About the mentality and consciousness, about their body, about their gender, and everything they wish for as a human.

Das kann ich bestätigen.

I can confirm that.

Als Nargis in Nürnberg bei den Filmfestspielen war, war ich schon in Teheran Korrespondentin 2009.

When Nargis was at the film festival in Nuremberg, I had already been a correspondent in Tehran in 2009.

Und die Nachricht, dass sie sich distanziert von ihrem Vater, von dem Regime, dass sie das Regime verurteilt, ging durch alle Medien.

And the news that she is distancing herself from her father, from the regime, that she condemns the regime, spread through all the media.

Sie war wie eine Heldin.

She was like a heroine.

Aber sie war eher eine Ausnahme damals.

But she was more of an exception back then.

Eine Person, die laut ist, die sich äußert gegen das Regime.

A person who is loud, who speaks out against the regime.

Das war unglaublich mutig.

That was incredibly brave.

Wenn man sieht die Entwicklung jetzt.

If you look at the development now.

Wenn die Mädchen und Frauen auf der Straße laufen, diese Generation Z, die ja nicht nur das Kopftuch nicht mehr tragen.

When the girls and women walk on the street, this Generation Z, which no longer just wears the headscarf.

Und das ist manche Straßenviertel in Teheran, siehst du kaum noch Kopftuch.

And in some neighborhoods in Tehran, you hardly see a headscarf anymore.

Und es hat sich ja kein Gesetz geändert seit diesem revolutionären Prozess, seit der Bewegung Frau, Leben, Freiheit.

And no law has changed since this revolutionary process, since the movement for Woman, Life, Freedom.

Die Gesetze sind ganz im Gegenteil repressiver, restrikter geworden.

The laws have become quite the opposite, more repressive and restrictive.

Die Frauen, ihnen werden die Autos geändert.

The women are getting the cars changed.

Sie werden die Autos abgenommen, konfisziert.

The cars will be taken away, confiscated.

Wenn man ohne Kopftuch im Auto sitzt, bekommt man eine Warnung.

If you sit in the car without a headscarf, you receive a warning.

Nach der dritten Warnung wird das Auto beschlagnahmt.

After the third warning, the car will be confiscated.

Inzwischen sind aber die Parkplätze in Teheran so überfüllt, wo die beschlagnahmten Autos stehen.

In the meantime, the parking spaces in Tehran are so overcrowded where the confiscated cars are.

Weil alle Autos beschlagnahmt sind.

Because all the cars have been confiscated.

Weil alle Autos beschlagnahmt werden.

Because all cars are being confiscated.

Weil so viele Frauen ohne Kopftuch dran, dass die Behörden gar nicht mehr nachkommen.

Because so many women are without headscarves that the authorities can no longer keep up.

Und es gibt jetzt Wartelisten.

And there are now waiting lists.

Und du musst zwei, drei Monate warten, bis du dein Auto überhaupt irgendwo hinbringen kannst.

And you have to wait two or three months before you can even take your car somewhere.

Und eine Bekannte aus Teheran erzählte mir.

And an acquaintance from Tehran told me.

Wie ist sie dann, um das Auto nach so und so zu bringen?

Das bedeutet, jede Frau, die auf die Straße geht, riskiert verhaftet zu werden.

This means that every woman who goes out on the street risks being arrested.

Was aber auch in Teheran seit dieser Bewegung eingetreten ist,

Was hat sich denn geändert, seit es einen neuen Präsidenten gibt,

der ja auch gesagt hat, er wird die Kopftuchfrage lösen, was auch immer er damit gemeint hat?

Das ist allein im August 1993 hinrichtend.

Es gab 400 Hinrichtungen, seit Jahresbeginn 400 Hinrichtungen.

Ein Präsident, der im Wahlkampf verspricht, wir müssen unseren Frauen mehr Rechte einräumen,

A president who promises during the election campaign that we must grant our women more rights,

der verspricht, wir können nicht mehr unsere Haupthaushaltsausgaben in die Militärfinanzierung in der Region stecken,

that promises we can no longer allocate our main household expenses to military funding in the region,

der verspricht, dass die Wirtschaft sich verbessern muss,

he promises that the economy must improve,

der aber Teil des Systems ist, dem glaubwürdig.

Es gibt niemanden mehr.

Also dieser sogenannte Reformer, wie er gerne in westlichen Medien dargestellt wird,

Dann war ich im Iran, jahrelang.

Then I was in Iran for years.

Und als ich zurückkam, merkte ich plötzlich, wie mutig man sein kann.

And when I came back, I suddenly realized how brave one can be.

Und dass man viel mutiger sein kann, als man denkt sein zu können.

And that one can be much braver than one thinks one can be.

Und dieser Mut, den mir die iranischen Frauen beigebracht haben, wirklich beigebracht haben,

And this courage that the Iranian women have taught me, really taught me,

den habe ich dann in meiner weiteren Laufbahn als Journalistin auch immer wieder angewendet,

I have also applied that repeatedly in my further career as a journalist.

wenn ich in Ländern wie Eritrea oder Afghanistan oder der Türkei oder Syrien, Libanon war,

when I was in countries like Eritrea or Afghanistan or Turkey or Syria, Lebanon,

wo man mich einschüchtern wollte.

where they wanted to intimidate me.

Aber im Iran sagt man ja Shirzan, also Löwenfrau.

Und wenn ich in einer Gefahrensituation bin,
