Ich schreibe die Bücher ja im Prinzip auch so ein bisschen für mich und das, was immer drin steht hinterher, ist ja das, was ich selber will.

I actually write the books a bit for myself, and what is included in them is essentially what I want.

Also dieses zu wissen, dass man sich noch irgendwie verändern kann, entspannt bleiben, ans Gute glauben, an Happy Ends glauben, Geduld mit den Eltern haben.

So knowing that you can still somehow change, staying relaxed, believing in the good, believing in happy endings, and having patience with your parents.

Also all die Sachen, die waren mir, ich schreibe es immer für mich.

So all those things, they were for me, I always write it for myself.

Also was ich mir einfach wünschen würde, dass in so Zeiten wie jetzt müsste eigentlich mehr gelesen werden, weil dann ist die Welt so ein bisschen weg und dann hat man so einen Moment Ruhe.

What I would simply wish for is that in times like these, more reading should actually happen, because then the world is a bit away, and you have a moment of quiet.

Auf die Sie müssen, dürfen, Sie dürfen nur drei Bücher mitnehmen. Welche sind es?

You may only take three books with you. Which ones are they?

Ein Notizbuch. Ich glaube, ich nehme noch eine alte Astrid Lindgren mit diesen Kinder von Bullerbüchern. Alle drei Bänder in einem.

A notebook. I think I'll take along an old Astrid Lindgren with these Bullerby children books. All three volumes in one.

Das kann man mehrere Mal lesen. Und ich glaube noch einen Jonathan Fentzen Korrekturen. Den kann man auch mehrere Male lesen.

One can read that several times. And I believe there are also corrections from Jonathan Fentzen. That can also be read multiple times.

Okay. Das heißt, wir haben einmal was zum selber schreiben. Wir haben großartige Kinderbücher.

Keine Unterhaltungsliteratur? Nichts? Oder die Bibel oder irgendwie sowas?

Nein. Das würde ich so, also für drei Bücher weiß ich nicht. Ich würde dann glaube ich selber was schreiben, wenn ich die anderen beiden durch hätte oder so. Das selber schreiben. Das Notizbuch ist glaube ich das Wichtigste.

No. I wouldn't do it that way; for three books, I don't know. I think I would write something myself after I finished the other two or something like that. Writing it myself. I think the notebook is the most important thing.

Warum?

Why?

Weil ich das schwierig finde, wenn man einen schönen Satz im Kopf hat und ich weiß, ich kann ihn ja nicht merken. Dann würde ich mich ärgern, wenn ich ihn nicht aufschreiben könnte.

Because I find it difficult when I have a beautiful sentence in my head and I know I can’t remember it. Then I would be frustrated if I couldn’t write it down.

Sie würden ihn aber immer eher aufschreiben und nicht irgendwie ins Handy diktieren oder sowas?

But you would always write it down instead of dictating it into your phone or something like that?

Nee. Ich kann überhaupt nicht ins Handy diktieren.

No. I can't dictate into the phone at all.

Also es geht nicht. Ich muss sehen, ob der Satz schön ist, weil er schön aussehen muss. Also geschrieben muss er auch schön aussehen. Nicht nur gesprochen. Sich schön anhören.

So it doesn't work. I have to see if the sentence is beautiful because it needs to look nice. It also needs to look good when written down. Not just when spoken. It should sound beautiful.

Das heißt, Sie schreiben auch immer mit der Hand?

That means you always write by hand as well?

Nee. Ich schreibe am Laptop, aber Notizen mache ich immer mit der Hand. Also ich habe auch so, eine Freundin hat mir mal so eine Handy-App aufgespielt, wo ich dann auch irgendwas gleich sortieren kann. Das geht nicht. Ich muss, ich habe einen Zettel dabei oder eine Parkquittung oder irgendwie sowas, wo ich dann was aufschreibe. Aber ich muss tatsächlich das sehen. Geschrieben.

No. I write on the laptop, but I always take notes by hand. So I have a friend who once installed an app on my phone, where I can sort things immediately. That doesn't work. I need to have a piece of paper or a parking receipt or something like that, where I write something down. But I actually need to see it. Written down.

Sie schreiben auf Sylt, habe ich mir sagen lassen?

Ja. Haben Sie da so ein Zimmer, in dem überall irgendwelche Post-its, Zettel hängen, auf die Sie Ihre Gedanken, Ideen aufschreiben?

Yes. Do you have a room like that where there are Post-its and notes hanging everywhere on which you write your thoughts and ideas?

Das ist ein weißer Schreibtisch. Da liegt links der Kapitelaufriss, den ich habe am Anfang, wo ich gerade bin und was ich schreiben muss. Und rechts liegt vielleicht noch so ein Notizbuch und vielleicht so ein paar Notizen zu den Figuren, die ich sonst vergesse. Ansonsten nichts an den Wänden.

This is a white desk. On the left is the chapter outline that I have at the beginning, showing where I am and what I need to write. And on the right is maybe a notebook and perhaps some notes about the characters that I might forget otherwise. Otherwise, there’s nothing on the walls.

Und Sie sitzen auch am Schreibtisch, wenn Sie schreiben? Sind Sie speziell angezogen?

And do you also sit at your desk when you write? Are you dressed specially?

Nein.

No.

Es gibt ja Schriftstellerinnen oder Schriftsteller, die sagen, ich muss.

There are writers who say, I have to.

Im Anzug schreiben. Oder dann gibt es andere, die hängen da im Jogginganzug rum.

Writing in a suit. Or then there are others who are hanging around in their tracksuits.

Nein. Wenn ich wirklich nur schreibe in der Zeit und das Haus nicht verlassen muss, dann nehme ich das aus dem Schrank, was oben drauf liegt.

No. If I really only write during that time and don't have to leave the house, then I take what is on top out of the cupboard.

Ernsthaft?

Seriously?

Es ist gewaschen. Ja. Es ist sauber. Aber es passt nicht unbedingt zusammen.

It is washed. Yes. It is clean. But it does not necessarily match.

Haben Sie da so eine richtige Disziplin? Also von neun bis zwölf, dann Pause und dann geht es wieder weiter?

Do you have a proper routine like that? From nine to twelve, then a break, and then it continues again?

Das würde ich gerne. Das möchte ich auch schon ganz lange. Das schaffe ich nicht. Ich bin richtig diszipliniert. Vier Wochen von Monoskriptaufgaben.

I would like that. I've wanted that for a long time. I can't manage it. I am really disciplined. Four weeks of manuscript tasks.

Da kann ich auch nachts. Aber ich will schon jeden Tag und es ist auch besser, wenn ich jeden Tag schreibe, weil ich nicht immer den Ton suchen muss. Aber ich habe da schon ein Talent, mich zu vertüddeln. Also dann noch eine Zeitung und noch einen Kaffee und dann kann ich eigentlich nochmal die und die anrufen. Also aus dieser Unlust ranzugehen oder so kann ich da schon Stunden mit anderen Dingen verbringen.

I can do that at night too. But I want to write every day, and it’s better if I write every day because I don’t always have to search for the tone. But I already have a talent for getting tangled up. So then another newspaper and another coffee, and then I can actually call this and that person again. So, from this reluctance to get started or something, I can spend hours on other things.

Sie sind gebürtige Sylterin, in List geboren. Deswegen schreiben Sie eben auch zum großen Teil auf der Insel, in der einsamen Insel.

She is a native of Sylt, born in List. That's why she mostly writes on the island, in the remote island.

In der Einzel ist es aber nicht mehr, weil wir gerade bei der Einzelinsel waren.

In singles it is no longer, because we were just at the single island.

Nicht mehr in allen Monaten. Es gibt durchaus noch Monate wie der November, da ist es schon einsam in einigen Teilen. Aber es gibt immer weniger Zeitfenster tatsächlich, wo es eine einsame Insel ist.

Not every month anymore. There are still months like November when it's quite lonely in some parts. But there are increasingly fewer time windows where it is actually a deserted island.

Aber es ist immer noch Ihre Insel?

But is it still your island?

Ja, es gibt immer noch meine Stellen.

Yes, my positions still exist.

Was lieben Sie am meisten an Sylt? Für viele ist es ja so der Inbegriff von Luxusurlaub, was es ja zum Teil sicherlich auch ist. Aber es gibt eben ganz andere Flecken dort, ganz andere Ecken. Man kann auch im Sommer da noch einsam an irgendwelchen Stränden spazieren.

What do you love most about Sylt? For many, it is the epitome of a luxury vacation, which it certainly is to some extent. But there are also completely different spots there, entirely different corners. You can still take lonely walks on some beaches there even in summer.

Was mögen Sie am meisten?

What do you like the most?

Am meisten mag ich schon diese ganzen Strände um den Ellenbogen rum.

I really like all these beaches around the elbow.

Im Norden der Insel?

In the north of the island?

Im Norden, ja. Ich bin schon Nord. Weil sich da einfach so wenig verändert hat. Also das Wasser sah schon aus, als ich drei war. Und wenn Flut ist und es ist Strömung, geht man nicht rein.

In the north, yes. I am already from the north. Because so little has changed there. The water looked the same when I was three. And when it's high tide and there's a current, you don’t go in.

Und wenn Westwind ist, sind die besten Wellen. Und bei Ostwind kommen die Quallen. Und das ist nicht meine Entscheidung. Also ich muss immer das machen, was das Wasser vorgibt. Und das finde ich beruhigend, dass man nicht überall seine Finger drin hat.

And when there is a west wind, the best waves are there. And with an east wind, the jellyfish come. And that is not my decision. So I always have to do what the water dictates. And I find it reassuring that you don't have your fingers in everything.

Warum ist das so eine Strömung?

Why is there such a current?

Weil es so eine Struktur auch gibt, ne?

Because there is such a structure, right?

Ja, und weil man auch merkt, dass man irgendwie nur ein kleiner Mensch ist. Und die Nordsee, diese Stelle war vor mir schon da und wird auch hinter mir, nach mir da sein. Und das, finde ich, macht einen so ein bisschen, bringt einen so ein bisschen auf den Boden.

Yes, and because you also realize that you are somehow just a small person. And the North Sea, this place was there before me and will also be there after me. And that, I think, grounds you a bit, brings you down to earth a bit.

Auf der Insel gibt es ja viele, zumindest im Sommer, die nicht davon überzeugt sind, dass sie nur kleine Menschen sind.

On the island, there are many, at least in the summer, who are not convinced that they are just small people.

Ne, die gehen aber auch nicht an den Strand. Die fahren ja meistens auf die Insel, um dann abends in der Sansibar Magnumflaschen zu trinken und andere Leute zu treffen. Es ist ja so, ich bin manchmal wirklich überrascht, wenn die Insel, also dieses Jahr war sie wieder extrem voll.

No, they don’t go to the beach either. They mostly go to the island to drink Magnum bottles in Sansibar in the evenings and meet other people. The thing is, I’m sometimes really surprised when the island, well, this year it was extremely crowded again.

Und dann fahre ich da zum Ellenbogen und da gibt es so einen Parkplatz vor diesem Aufgang zum Strand und da stehen da vier Autos. Und ich habe von, keine Ahnung, Wellingstedt nach List eine Dreiviertelstunde mit dem Auto gebraucht. Und dann denke ich, es kann ja nicht sein, dass die alle zum Hafen fahren, um da bei Gosch Scampis zu essen. Aber sie tun es offensichtlich. Es sind wirklich viele da, die hinfahren, um sich mit anderen zu treffen, aber nicht, um da am Strand zu sein, wo nichts ist. Und wenn die zum Strand gehen, fahren sie dahin, wo die Strandkörbe nebeneinander stehen, dass man da vielleicht auch nochmal Leute kennenlernen kann und wo es Pommes gibt und ein Klo.

And then I drive to the elbow and there is a parking lot in front of the entrance to the beach and there are four cars parked there. And I took about three quarters of an hour to drive from Wellingstedt to List. And then I think, it can't be that they are all going to the harbor to eat scampi at Gosch. But they obviously are. There are really a lot of people going there to meet others, but not to be at the beach, where there is nothing. And when they go to the beach, they drive to where the beach chairs are lined up, so maybe they can meet people there too, and where there are fries and a restroom.

Wobei ist die Natur so wunderbar. Gott sei Dank immer noch. Ich hatte das Glück, vor vielen, vielen Jahren eben einen Sylter als Kollegen zu haben und der hat mich dann mal mitgenommen und mir seine Insel gezeigt. Und da habe ich gemerkt, dass ihr Sylter oder wahrscheinlich alle Inselmenschen so eine ganz spezielle Verbundenheit habt zu eurer Insel. Wie empfinden Sie das? Also ist das mehr als Heimat?

In what ways is nature so wonderful? Thank God it still is. I was lucky enough to have a Sylt resident as a colleague many, many years ago, and he took me along and showed me his island. That's when I realized that you Sylters, or probably all islanders, have a very special connection to your island. How do you feel about that? Is it more than just home?

Ja, ich kann das auch ganz schwer erklären, aber das ist so, dass ich bin da auch viel umgezogen als Kind, weil mein Vater bei der Bundeswehr war und wir waren natürlich in allen Sommern, in allen Ferien war ich immer nur auf Sylt. Und das ist der einzige Ort, den ich so mein Leben lebe.

Yes, I find it very difficult to explain as well, but the thing is that I moved around a lot as a child because my father was in the army, and of course during all summers and holidays I was always just in Sylt. And that is the only place I have lived my life.

Also ich war eine Zeit lang in Rheinland-Pfalz, ich war eine Zeit lang in Flensburg. Also es hat sich immer so abgeweckt. Jetzt in Hamburg, dazwischen war ich mal in Cuxhaven und Sylt war immer in jedem Alter. Das ist das eine. Ich bin da ruhiger. Das ist so ein Ort, wo ich immer denke, da gehöre ich jetzt auch hin. Also da bin ich nicht die Neue.

Well, I was in Rhineland-Palatinate for a while, I was in Flensburg for a while. So it always felt like that. Now in Hamburg, in between I was in Cuxhaven and Sylt was always there at every age. That's one thing. I feel calmer there. It's a place where I always think I belong there too. So I'm not the new one there.

That's a great feeling, isn't it?

Und das haben eben nicht allzu viele Menschen. Sind Sie gerade unterwegs in Bayern auf Promotour für Ihren neuen Roman, die Familienangelegenheiten der Johanne Johansen. Wie mögen Sie es in Bayern? Was gefällt Ihnen?

And not too many people have that. Are you currently on a promotional tour in Bavaria for your new novel, the family matters of Johanne Johansen? How do you like it in Bavaria? What do you enjoy?

Was gefällt Ihnen hier besonders gut? Gibt es Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen Sylt und Bayern?

What do you particularly like here? Are there any similarities between Sylt and Bavaria?

Mein Vater kam aus Franken, also wenn das hilft. Mein Vater ist aus Schlesien damals geflüchtet als Kind und ist dann in der Nähe von Nürnberg aufgewachsen. Und ich bin ein großer Fan. Und ich habe, ich sage das hier offiziell als Beschwerde an meinen Verlag, seit Montag schon hier und habe noch nicht ein einziges Leberkässemmel bekommen.

My father came from Franconia, so if that helps. My father fled from Silesia as a child and then grew up near Nuremberg. And I am a big fan. And I officially state this here as a complaint to my publisher, I have been here since Monday and have not received a single liver cheese sandwich yet.

Half. So it’s really like this, that I, yeah it always depends a bit on whether I have other appointments or something like that.

Ich fahre nach Sylt, wenn ich weiß, ich habe so zwei, drei Wochen am Stück Zeit, dass ich dann wirklich mit den Klamotten von oben auch lange sitzen kann.

I'm going to Sylt when I know I have two or three weeks in a row, so that I can really relax and sit for a long time with the clothes from above.

Für zwei Tage oder drei Tage, wenn ich viel schreibe oder so, ist mir da die Fahrzeit auch zu viel.

For two days or three days, when I write a lot or so, the travel time is too much for me as well.

Nee, aber die Hälfte. Also ich fange immer, auf Sylt fange ich meistens an und ich höre fast immer auf Sylt auf.

Also das war diese Rente, war immer, es gab ja bei mir kein Renteneintrittsalter oder sowas.

So that was this pension, there was never a retirement age or anything for me.

Also beim Schreiben ist ja sowieso nicht, ich kann ja schreiben, bis ich nicht mehr denken kann.

Well, writing is not really an option; I can write until I can no longer think.

Also es ist auch unvorstellbar für mich.

Aber ich glaube, da hat sich auch so ein bisschen, es haben sich glaube ich viele da verändert.

Und das finden sie auch schön.

Aber dass man wirklich so, nur weil das im Gesetz steht, aufhört.

But that someone really stops like that just because it's stated in the law.

Und das machen glaube ich jetzt nicht mehr so viele Leute.

And I don't think that many people do that anymore now.

Wobei es natürlich Berufe gibt, in denen du wahrscheinlich im Rentenalter auch kaputt bist.

Of course, there are professions where you are likely to be worn out even in retirement.

Wenn du körperlich hart gearbeitet hast, dann brauchst du dann auch einfach die Ruhe.

If you have worked hard physically, then you just need the rest.

Aber du kannst natürlich trotzdem vielleicht noch was anderes machen.

Man muss auch nicht mit dem Außendienst mit 70 noch durch die Gegend, über die Autobahn fahren.

Also es ist schon gut, dass man dann irgendwann aufhört, wenn man nicht mehr richtig gucken und hören kann.

And then somehow one thought, okay, I have a great book here, it's in the entertainment preview for some reasons.

Dann erzähle ich es dir jetzt auch nicht.

Aber bitte, warum lese ich denn einen Roman, wenn er nicht unterhaltend ist?

Also wie Sie gesagt haben, auch große Literatur, sogenannte große Literatur muss doch unterhaltsam sein.

So, to speak negatively, no, I don't want to mention any author names, but there were things that were really light and easy with short chapters, large font, 200 pages, set in, I don’t know, a family buying a townhouse and having funny stories with the neighbor's dog.

Das gab dann eben so Romane, die waren dann eben leicht zu lesen und so und das wurde dann Unterhaltung genannt.

That then resulted in novels that were easy to read and such, and that was called entertainment.

Und dagegen stand dann eben, was weiß ich, Heinrich Böll.

And against that stood, I don’t know, Heinrich Böll.

Und das hat sich aber eben dann so aufgeweicht in der Zeit.

And that has really softened over time.

Also wer definiert jetzt, wer Unterhaltung ist?

Also das ist im Moment, das hat dann so ein bisschen, es hat dann so eine Eigendynamik bekommen und ich glaube, man weiß gar nicht mehr genau, wo der Knoten ist.

Es ist natürlich immer eine sprachliche Geschichte, aber ich habe auch wirklich viele, in Anführungsstrichen, Unterhaltungsromane gelesen, die wahnsinnig gut geschrieben sind.

Und ich finde, also ich lese im Moment extrem viel wieder auch privat, weil ich irgendwie merke,

wenn ich so abends und morgens so Anfang am Tag und auf in den Tag mit einer erfundenen Geschichte von irgendeinem Menschen aufhöre,

when I stop in the evening and in the morning at the beginning of the day with an invented story about some person.

dann ist die Welt zum Besten.

Then the world is for the best.

Dann ist die Welt ein bisschen weg und dann hat man mal so einen Moment Ruhe vor all dem.

Then the world is a little distant, and then you have a moment of peace from it all.

Und es ist auch gar nicht schlimm, wenn die Welt dann für ein paar Stunden mal wieder ein bisschen mehr in Ordnung ist.

And it's not bad at all if the world is just a little more in order again for a few hours.

Ne, wenn ich aufs Knie falle, schone ich das Knie ja auch eine Zeit lang.

Und ich habe auch mal ein bisschen Angst gehabt mit dem Außendienst, dass ich mich mal wirklich ernsthaft verletze.

Und Handball ist ja nun mal ein brutaler Sport.

Und dann habe ich aufgehört und habe dann wirklich alles versucht von, ich weiß es nicht, Yoga und Fitness.

And then I stopped and really tried everything from, I don't know, yoga and fitness.

Und ich fand alles wahnsinnig langweilig.

And I found everything incredibly boring.

Und dann hat mich eine Freundin irgendwann mit zum Tennis mal genommen.

And then a friend took me to play tennis one time.

Und ich war begeistert.

And I was thrilled.

Und dann habe ich irgendwann einen Hamburger Verein gefunden, wo auch alte Frauen spielen.

And then at some point, I found a club in Hamburg where older women also play.

Spielen Sie auch so Meisterschaften wie Ü50?

Do you also play championships like over 50?

Ja, das ist tatsächlich, wir nennen es Ü50.

Was ich immer super finde, ist bei allen Vereinen, so bei uns ist keine unter 60.

Und dann ruft sie, halt die Klappe, Bärbel.

And then she shouts, shut up, Bärbel.

Und ich habe gesagt, das hat die jetzt nicht gesagt.

And I said, she didn't say that now.

Und die weiß auch meinen Namen gar nicht.

And she doesn't even know my name.

Und dann habe ich sie so entsetzt angestarrt und sagte, ach Entschuldigung, die Wurstschneidemaschine heißt so.

And then I stared at her in disbelief and said, oh, excuse me, that's what the sausage cutting machine is called.

Und die ist heute so laut.

And it is so loud today.

Und dann habe ich gesagt, ich habe diesen Namen sowieso nicht besonders gemocht.

And then I said, I haven't particularly liked that name anyway.

Und das überstrahlt auch dann ganz viel bei ihr.

And that shines through a lot with her as well.

Also erst mal war ich nicht in der Gefahr,

So first of all, I was not in danger,

als es anfing mit dem Erfolg, war ich ja schon Mitte, Ende 40.

When it started with the success, I was already in my late 40s.

Und Sie waren sehr, sehr erfolgreich vorher beim Verlag?

And you were very, very successful before at the publishing house?

Ja, und ich hatte ja einen tollen Job.

Und auch für dich.

Ich habe auch ordentlich verdient und so.

Es war auch alles wirklich in Ordnung.

Und wenn man in so einer Branche erfolgreich wird,

die man wirklich selber sehr, sehr gut kennt.

Und ich habe ja nie was anderes gemacht beruflich.

And I've never done anything else professionally.

Ich habe nach dem Abitur gleich Buchhandlerin gelernt

I trained as a bookseller right after finishing high school.

und bin dann nach fünf Jahren Buchhandlung dann Vertreterin geworden.

and then I became a representative after five years in the bookstore.

Also ich habe nie was anderes gemacht.

So I have never done anything else.

Und ich habe so viele Autoren so,

And I have so many authors like that,

klingt jetzt so richtig, Oma erzählt vom Krieg,

sounds just like it now, Grandma is talking about the war,

so viele Autoren so kommen und gehen sehen.

so many authors come and go.

Also Leute, die ganz schnell, ganz hoch gehypt waren.

So, people who were hyped up very quickly and to a great extent.

Und dann gab es ein zweites Buch, das hat keine Rolle mehr gespielt.

And then there was a second book, which no longer mattered.

Und das dritte war die Enttäuschung.

And the third was the disappointment.

Dann waren die wieder weg.

Then they were gone again.

Und die ersten beiden, die waren gar nicht so super erfolgreich.

And the first two weren't really that successful.

Das war okay, man musste sich nicht entschuldigen,

That was okay, you didn't have to apologize.

dass der Verlag das gemacht hat.

that the publisher did that.

Aber das waren auch wirklich keine Erfolge.

But those were really not successes either.

Das war 2006 ausgeliebt.

That was loved up in 2006.

Genau, und dann unzertrennlich war es dann der Nachfolgeband.

Exactly, and then the sequel was inseparable.

Und das waren, also auch wenn 10.000 verkauft,

And that was, even if 10,000 were sold,

das war schon ordentlich.

That was quite decent.

Aber das war jetzt wirklich kein Erfolg.

But that really wasn't a success.

Und ich stand auch nicht auf irgendeiner Liste

And I was not on any list either.

oder ich wurde auch nicht eingeladen damit und so.

or I wasn't invited to that either.

Und das Urlaub mit Papa ging dann so durch.

And the vacation with Dad went like that.

Und danach blieb alles oder wurde alles erfolgreich.

And then everything remained or became successful.

Und das hat mich eigentlich dann immer erstaunt.

And that has always amazed me.

Weil ich wirklich immer dachte,

Because I really always thought,

so ein Urlaub mit Papa ist so durch die Decke gegangen damals.

Such a vacation with Dad was off the charts back then.

Wir konnten, ich weiß nicht,

We could, I don't know,

wir haben das glaube ich alle sechs Wochen nachgedruckt.

I think we reprinted that every six weeks.

Es konnte auch keiner fassen, was da passierte.

No one could grasp what was happening there.

Aber da endet sich das Leben doch.

But there life comes to an end.

Da wirst du dann auch ganz anders behandelt als Autor auf einmal.

Then you will be treated very differently as an author all of a sudden.

Ich habe ja nichts verändert.

I haven't changed anything.

Ich habe diesen Job weitergemacht als Vertreterin.

I continued this job as a representative.

Ach, Sie waren noch ganz lange im Verlag.

Oh, you were at the publishing house for quite a long time.

Ja, zehn Jahre. Ich habe das zehn Jahre.

Yes, ten years. I have had this for ten years.

Ich bin ja erst seit vier Jahren raus, so seit fünf Jahren.

Und auch immer unter Pseudonym sozusagen Dora Held geschrieben.
