Diesen Titel haben wir über unsere heutige Sendung gesetzt, damit wir einen Zugang finden zur Bibel, der uns wirklich durch den Tag hindurch begleitet, wo die Bibel wirklich Wegbrot werden kann, Nahrung für den Alltag, wo sie uns wirklich durch den Tag begleitet.

Read, pray, take God along. Reading the Bible as daily sustenance. We have given this title to our program today in order to find an approach to the Bible that truly accompanies us throughout the day, where the Bible can really become our daily bread, nourishment for everyday life, where it truly guides us through the day.

So ähnlich, wie es auch unser Handy oft tut, das wir immer in unserer Hosentasche tragen, das wir bei jeder Gelegenheit herausziehen, wo wir immer mal Rat, mal Trost, mal Zeit totschlagen, alles mögliche mit veranstalten, durch unser ganzes Leben begleitet. So soll auch die Heilige Schrift sein. Sie soll uns durch das Leben begleiten.

Just like our mobile phone that we often carry in our pockets, which we pull out at every opportunity, where we sometimes seek advice, sometimes comfort, sometimes just to pass the time, engaging in all sorts of things, accompanying us throughout our lives. The Holy Scripture should be like that too. It should accompany us through life.

Und die christliche Tradition, sie erzählt auch immer wieder von Menschen, die aus der Heiligen Schrift gelebt haben, die nämlich die Bibel, modern gesprochen, als einen Life Companion genutzt haben, einen täglichen Begleiter.

Einen Tröster, als eine persönliche Orientierungshilfe und als Inspirationsquelle.

Wenn es also um die Frage geht, wie komme ich gut durchs Leben, dann ist die Antwort, das Leben aus der Heiligen Schrift.

So when it comes to the question of how to navigate life well, the answer is to approach life through the Holy Scriptures.

Denn die Menschen, die sich von der Bibel durch das Leben haben begleiten lassen, durch den Tag, die sind glücklich geworden.

For the people who have been guided by the Bible through life, throughout the day, they have become happy.

Aus diesem Grund sagen wir, das wollen wir auch und wir wollen diesen Zugang zur Heiligen Schrift persönlich auch kennenlernen und ihn auch entdecken für uns ganz persönlich.

Thomas, ich habe es gerade schon erwähnt, jeden Morgen startet ihr bei den Samartins mit 50 Minuten Lectio Divina und stillem Gebet in den Tag.

Wirklich ziemlich intensiv. Also, was ist dir in den vier Jahren, in denen du bei den Samartins mittlerweile dabei bist,

Really quite intense. So, what has stood out to you in the four years that you have been with the Samartins now?

studierst und lebst, was ist dir die Heilige Schrift dadurch geworden?

What has the Holy Scripture become for you through your studies and life?

Also zuallererst muss ich sagen, dass die Heilige Schrift der Hauptgrund war für meine persönliche Bekehrung zu Gott.

First of all, I must say that the Holy Scriptures were the main reason for my personal conversion to God.

Und ich habe mich, also ich bin immer, ich bin im Glauben aufgewachsen, Gott sei Dank,

And I have, well I have always, I grew up in faith, thank God,

aber ich habe so eine persönliche Christusbegegnung eigentlich 2015 erst erlebt und da bin ich einfach durch das Wort Gottes Christus näher gekommen.

But I actually experienced such a personal encounter with Christ only in 2015, and through the Word of God, I came closer to Christ.

Das heißt, das Wort Gottes begleitet mich eigentlich schon immer, seit meiner Bekehrung eigentlich.

That means the Word of God has actually accompanied me since my conversion.

Und dann muss ich natürlich auch sagen, die Lectio Divina an sich habe ich dann aber, wie du sagst, durch das Priesterseminar kennenlernen dürfen.

And then I must also say that I had the opportunity to get to know Lectio Divina through the seminary, as you mentioned.

Also einfach dieses Wort Lectio Divina, ich wusste davor nicht, dass man das so nennt.

So just this word Lectio Divina, I didn't know before that it's called that.

Aber es ist ja einfach nur einfaches Bibellesen, also mit der Bibel, sozusagen mit dem Wort Gottes beten.

But it's really just simple Bible reading, so praying with the Bible, so to speak, with the word of God.

Und was ist das Wort Gottes für mich in den letzten vier Jahren geworden?

And what has the word of God become for me in the last four years?

Eigentlich ein Wegbegleiter.

Actually, a companion.

Muss man sagen, eine Quelle, eine tägliche Quelle, Kraftquelle für den Tag.

One must say, a source, a daily source, a source of strength for the day.

Und ich muss auch sagen, das Wort Gottes anfühlt sich, wie es auch Papst Franziskus immer mal wieder sagt,

And I must also say, the word of God feels, as Pope Francis also says from time to time,

das Wort Gottes hat etwas sehr, sehr Anziehendes.

The word of God has something very, very attractive.

Also es ist jetzt nicht nur etwas, was man liest, ein Roman oder irgendetwas.

So it's not just something you read, a novel or anything like that.

Das Wort Gottes ist wirklich etwas, was Autorität hat.

The word of God truly is something that has authority.

Das ist auch ganz logisch, weil Jesus Christus ja das Wort,

That makes perfect sense, because Jesus Christ is the Word,

das Wort Gottes ist.

the word of God is.

Und das heißt, das Wort Gottes ist Gottes Wort und es kann Kraft auf uns haben, wenn wir es zulassen.

And that means that the word of God is God's word and it can have power over us if we allow it.

Wenn wir wirklich, wenn wir uns für Gott öffnen.

If we really, if we open ourselves to God.

Das Wort Gottes ist anziehend und das Wort Gottes möchte uns auch immer wieder wachrütteln,

The word of God is alluring, and the word of God also always wants to wake us up again.

provozieren, bekehren.

provoke, convert.

Also es ist einerseits, können Leute Bekehrungserlebnisse dadurch haben, wie ich es gehabt habe,

So on the one hand, people can have conversion experiences like I had.

oder wie es auch zum Beispiel Petrus und Andreas gehabt haben im Schiff, im Boot,

or how it was, for example, with Peter and Andrew in the ship, in the boat,

als sie von Jesus berufen wurden.

when they were called by Jesus.

Jesus hat einfach nur gesagt, folgt mir nach.

Jesus simply said, follow me.

Und sie haben alles liegen gelassen und sind ihm nachgefolgt.

And they left everything behind and followed him.

Also es ist wirklich Autorität dahinter, hinter diesem Wort.

So there is really authority behind this word.

Gleichzeitig ruft es aber auch zur täglichen Bekehrung auf.

At the same time, it also calls for daily conversion.

Man merkt immer wieder, und davon lebe ich auch irgendwie,

You can always notice it, and in a way, that's how I live too.

dass das Wort Gottes im Alltag ist wirklich etwas Provokantes, etwas Schönes,

that the word of God is truly something provocative, something beautiful in everyday life,

weil das wachrüttelt und lebendig macht.

because it shakes you awake and makes you feel alive.

Auch wenn es manchmal hart ist.

Even if it is sometimes hard.

Und auch wenn man vielleicht...

And even if one might...

Manchmal gar nichts versteht.

Sometimes doesn't understand anything at all.

Was will denn da jetzt eigentlich sagen der Herr?

What does the gentleman actually mean by that?

Aber es ist immer wieder, wenn man sich darauf einlässt,

But it is always the case that when you allow yourself to do it,

der Herr sucht immer nur den guten Willen in uns.

The Lord is always looking for the good will in us.

Und er weiß, dass wir schwach sind, dass wir arme Kreaturen sind.

And he knows that we are weak, that we are poor creatures.

Und er nutzt es.

And he uses it.

Er nutzt jeden guten Willen in uns, damit er in uns arbeiten kann, ganz einfach gesagt.

He uses every good intention within us so that he can work in us, plain and simple.

Und es bereitet, merkt er immer wieder, gegen Ende dieser vier Jahre,

And it prepares, he repeatedly notices, towards the end of these four years,

dass es auch das Herz formt für die Mission, für die Nächstenliebe.

that it also shapes the heart for the mission, for love of thy neighbor.

Es dreht von uns selber weg, hin zu Gott und hin zu den Nächsten.

It turns away from ourselves, towards God and towards our neighbors.

Also drei Worte eigentlich.

So actually three words.

Es ist anziehend, es bekehrt und es bereitet vor für die Mission.

It is attractive, it converts, and it prepares for the mission.

Das ist so ein bisschen vom Papst Franziskus,

That's a bit of Pope Francis.

Das war, glaube ich, am 21. Januar 2024, also diesen Jahres, genau.

Sachen, also Worte, die für dich aber irgendwie auch lebendig geworden sind,

Things, well words, that have somehow become alive for you,

die du auch erlebt hast in deinem Alltag.

Du sprichst von den vier Jahren.

Da ist es für dich genau das geworden.

That is exactly what it has become for you.

Anziehend, bekehrend und für die Mission vorbereitend.

Attractive, converting, and preparing for the mission.

Im Vorgespräch, Thomas, hast du mir aber verraten,

In our preliminary conversation, Thomas, you revealed to me,

dass es für dich aber gar kein so leichter Weg war,

that it wasn’t an easy path for you at all,

in die Lektio Divina hineinzufinden, in diese intensive Bibelese,

to find your way into Lectio Divina, into this intensive reading of the Bible,

die ja im letzten Jahr diese Frucht hervorgebracht hat,

which produced this fruit last year,

von der du gerade erzählt hast.

that you just talked about.

Warum war das am Anfang so schwer für dich?

Why was it so difficult for you at the beginning?

Ganz einfach.

Very simple.

Weil?

Why?

Also es ist einfach meinem Charakter verschuldet, glaube ich.

So it's simply due to my character, I believe.

Meinem Temperament, weil ich eigentlich ein sehr langsamer,

My temperament, because I am actually a very slow,

gemächlicher Charakter bin, glaube ich.

I believe I have a leisurely character.

Und ich einfach Zeit brauche, um mich vor Gott zu installieren.

And I simply need time to settle before God.

Also keine Ahnung, wenn ich in die Kapelle gehe,

So no idea, when I go into the chapel,

dann gehe ich auf die Knie,

then I go down on my knees,

dann schaue ich einfach mal eine Zeit lang auf den Tabernakel

Then I'll just take a look at the tabernacle for a while.

und bete zum Heiligen Geist.

and pray to the Holy Spirit.

Es braucht ein bisschen, dass sich mein Inneres auf Gott ausrichtet.

It takes a little while for my inner self to align with God.

Und das braucht Zeit.

And that takes time.

Ich muss sagen, anfangs war ich da ziemlich unter Zeitdruck, glaube ich.

I have to say, at first I was under quite a lot of time pressure, I think.

Ich habe mich aber auch selbst unter Druck gesetzt,

I have also put pressure on myself,

weil ich gesagt habe, oh, jetzt habe ich 50 Minuten,

because I said, oh, now I have 50 minutes,

jetzt muss ich da irgendwas auf die Beine stellen.

Now I have to get something off the ground there.

Das stimmt eigentlich gar nicht.

That’s not true at all.

Das war eigentlich so mein Laster, kann man sagen.

That was actually my vice, you could say.

Also meine eigene Geschwindigkeit,

So my own speed,

meinem Temperament verschuldet.

due to my temperament.

Und natürlich auch, das ist ganz witzig,

And of course also, that's quite funny,

ich mache es besser, wir sind 120 Seminaristen

I do it better, there are 120 seminarians.

und jeden Morgen sind wir zusammen.

And every morning we are together.

Und wenn man natürlich eher gewöhnt ist,

dass man alleine in der Kapelle ist

und ich und Jesus und sonst keiner,

and me and Jesus and no one else,

dann ist es natürlich auch schwierig,

then it is of course also difficult,

weil man hat dann oft so die Versuchung,

because you often have the temptation then,

ja, der betet besser als ich.

Yes, he prays better than I do.

Und man vergleicht sich.

And one compares oneself.

Es sind viele Versuchungen, die sich da auftun.

There are many temptations that arise.

Aber es ist ja ganz gut,

But it's quite good,

weil dann hat man sich einfach besser kennen.

because then you simply get to know each other better.

Und man merkt, am Anfang ist es gar nicht so leicht,

And you can tell that at the beginning it is not so easy at all,

das zu akzeptieren.

Aber man merkt dann einfach auch,

But you can simply tell then,

hey, Gott ist ja barmherzig.

Hey, God is indeed merciful.

Und er will mir das zeigen,

And he wants to show me that,

um mir dadurch umso mehr seine Barmherzigkeit zu zeigen.

to thereby show me all the more his mercy.

Also das waren so meine Schwierigkeiten,

So those were my difficulties,

meine Geschwindigkeit und so.

my speed and so on.

Dieser Laster wie der Vergleich

und die innere Hetze, sagen wir mal so.

Bibellesen, das Ernsthafte, damit anfangen wollen,

das kennt vielleicht auch mancher aus der eigenen Erfahrung,

führt oft ganz schnell dazu,

dass man mit den eigenen Schwächen

und mit der Selbsterkenntnis konfrontiert wird.

Vielleicht ist jetzt der geeignete Zeitpunkt,

einmal zu fragen, Lectio Divina,

du hast es am Anfang schon gesagt,

es ist einfach nur Bibellesen.

Aber Lectio Divina ist ja jetzt nicht nur einfach Bibellesen.

Es ist ja auch eine bestimmte Form von Zugang

Kannst du uns vielleicht erklären,

was versteht man klassisch?

Klassischerweise unter Lectio Divina,

wo kommt sie her und wozu ist sie da?

Where does she come from and what is she here for?

Also Lectio Divina ist ganz einfach gesagt,

So, Lectio Divina is simply said,

ich bin ja Bayer, deswegen sage ich ganz einfach gesagt,

es ist meditatives Lesen der Heiligen Schrift

It is meditative reading of the Holy Scriptures.

oder eines geistlichen Textes,

or a spiritual text,

eines Textes eines Heiligen,

of a text of a saint,

oder sagen wir mal Texte von Päpsten.

or let's say texts from Popes.

Aber grundsätzlich macht man es mit der Heiligen Schrift,

But fundamentally, one does it with the Holy Scripture,

weil das ist ja quasi Fundament dieses Wort Gottes,

because that is basically the foundation of this word of God,

und alles andere baut ja darauf aus.

and everything else is built upon that.

Also es ist meditatives Lesen.

So it is meditative reading.

Und wo kommt es her?

And where does it come from?

Es kommt, es ist ein Erbe, das wir erhalten haben,

von den Kirchenvätern, aber auch vor allem von den Mönchen.

Und das ist eine Methode, ja.

And that is a method, yes.

Man kann sagen, eine Methode, die sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte

Es soll einfach eine Hilfestellung sein,

Wir müssen alle beten, ist nichts anderes,

We all have to pray, there's nothing else.

als aufmerksam sein auf Gott, als mit Gott zu sprechen.

to be attentive to God, to speak with God.

Es ist nichts Kompliziertes.

It's nothing complicated.

Beten ist keine Technik.

Praying is not a technique.

Es ist einfach, ganz einfach, sprechen mit Gott,

It is easy, very easy, to talk to God,

aufmerksam sein auf Gott, ganz einfach.

Be attentive to God, it's that simple.

Da fällt mir auch die Therese von Avilaien,

That reminds me of Teresa of Avila,

die mal gesagt hat, dass Beten nichts anderes ist,

who once said that praying is nothing else than

als ein freundschaftlicher Austausch mit dem Gott,

as a friendly exchange with God,

von dem man sich geliebt weiß.

from whom one feels loved.

Ein freundschaftlicher Austausch, ein freundschaftliches Gespräch

A friendly exchange, a friendly conversation.

mit dem Gott, von dem man sich geliebt weiß.

with the God who one knows is loved.

Und deswegen ist es, glaube ich, am Anfang auch wirklich so wichtig,

And that’s why I believe it’s really important at the beginning too,

dass man sich immer erst in die Gegenwart Gottes stellt.

that one always first places oneself in the presence of God.

Wer bin ich denn vor Gott?

Who am I before God?

Erstmal bin ich nichts vor Gott.

First of all, I am nothing before God.

Und wie sieht er mich?

And how does he see me?

Als sein Kind.

As his child.

Das ist immer so das Wichtigste am Anfang,

That's always the most important thing at the beginning,

dass man sich in seine Gegenwart stellt und ihm geliebt weiß

that one stands in his presence and knows oneself to be loved

und dann einfach zu sprechen mit ihm.

and then just to talk to him.

Und man kann auch sagen, ich habe ein bisschen versucht,

so einen Vergleich, einen bildlichen Vergleich

mit der Lectio Divina zu machen.

Ich habe das verglichen mit einem Baumhaus vielleicht,

eine Leiter.

a ladder.

Die ins Baumhaus hochführt.

The one that leads up to the treehouse.

Mein Ziel ist, dass ich ins Baumhaus gelange.

My goal is to get to the treehouse.

Das Baumhaus ist quasi das Bild für die Gemeinschaft mit Gott,

The treehouse is basically the image of community with God.

das Gespräch mit Gott, die Intimität mit Gott vielleicht.

the conversation with God, the intimacy with God perhaps.

Und dann ist diese Leiter mit ihren Sprossen da,

And then this ladder with its rungs is there,

mit ihren vier Sprossen,

with its four rungs,

die die Lectio Divina vielleicht darstellt mit ihren vier Etappen.

sondern wirklich ein freundschaftliches Gespräch

Wenn man sich mal zehn Minuten

und sie stellen sich irgendwie abseits.

Und mir war es fast wie eine Antwort

And it was almost like an answer to me.

auf eine Frage,

to a question,

die ich Jesus gestern gestellt habe,

that I asked Jesus yesterday,

dass ich ihn gefragt habe,

that I asked him,

bin ich denn nur mit dir verbunden,

am I only connected to you,

wenn andere für mich beten?

When others pray for me?

So, weil man manchmal das Gefühl so kennt,

So, because sometimes you know the feeling so well,

so aus sich selbst heraus,

so from within oneself,

kriegt man nur wenigstens so richtig hin.

You can only get it right like this at least.

Auch das Beten, das fällt so schwer irgendwie manchmal.

Even praying is sometimes so difficult, somehow.

Und dann bittet man andere ums Gebet

And then you ask others to pray.

und dann geht es plötzlich mal wieder ganz gut

and then suddenly things are going quite well again

und dann wieder nicht,

and then again not,

wenn man dann irgendwie eine Weile

dann irgendwie dann allein unterwegs ist oder so.

then somehow alone on the way or something.

Und ich hatte so den Eindruck,

And I had the impression that,

dass Jesus irgendwie zu mir sagt,

that Jesus somehow says to me,

sie bringen dich nur zu mir

They only bring you to me.

und ich hole dich beiseite.

and I'll take you aside.

Du bist dann noch dichter bei mir irgendwie.

You are somehow even closer to me then.

Es ist dann nur der Wechsel

in die Stille mit mir

und da muss man sich ein bisschen umgewöhnen,
