Die Zeit anhalten, das würde ich manchmal echt gerne tun,

Sometimes I would really like to stop time.

wenn es rundum schön ist und ich glücklich bin.

when everything is beautiful all around and I am happy.

Aber das geht halt nicht. Oder vielleicht doch?

But that just doesn't work. Or maybe it does?

Ich war mit meinem Mann an der Ostsee unterwegs.

I was traveling with my husband at the Baltic Sea.

An einem Abend hatten wir es uns auf einer Bank gemütlich gemacht.

One evening we settled comfortably on a bench.

In Sichtweite war ein Restaurant und die Terrasse voll mit Gästen besetzt.

In sight was a restaurant and the terrace was full of guests.

Der Kellner hatte alle Hände voll zu tun, die Wünsche zu erfüllen und alle Tische zu bedienen.

The waiter had his hands full fulfilling the requests and serving all the tables.

Und dann sehe ich, wie der Kellner plötzlich inmitten aller Gäste alles stehen und liegen lässt

And then I see how the waiter suddenly leaves everything behind in the middle of all the guests.

und aus heiterem Himmel anfängt zu singen.

and suddenly starts singing.

Die Leute schauen auf, sind total überrascht und erstaunt.

The people look up, are totally surprised and astonished.

Und dann lacht.

And then laughs.

Und dann lächeln sie. So wie ich.

And then they smile. Just like me.

Weil der Kellner echt gut singen kann und sich alle über diese spontane und fröhliche Gesangseinlage freuen.

Because the waiter can really sing well and everyone enjoys this spontaneous and cheerful musical interlude.

Zum Schluss bekommt er Applaus.

In the end, he receives applause.

Und so rasch, wie er alles stehen und liegen gelassen hat,

And as quickly as he left everything behind,

greift er wieder nach seinem Tablett und verschwindet in der Küche.

He reaches for his tray again and disappears into the kitchen.

Ich fand das Ganze einfach klasse.

I found the whole thing simply great.

Und mir ist die Szene in der letzten Zeit noch ein paar Mal in den Sinn gekommen.

And the scene has come to my mind a few more times lately.

Der Kellner hat zwar nicht die Zeit angehalten,

The waiter didn't stop the time, however,

aber für ein paar Minuten...

but for a few minutes...

die Arbeit.

the work.

Er ist stehen geblieben, hat Halt gemacht,

He has stopped, has come to a halt,

sich kurz gesammelt und voll in Brunst dieses Lied in den Abend hineingeschmettert.

gathered briefly and bellowed this song into the evening in full heat.

Bei mir ist dabei hängen geblieben,

I got stuck on that,

die Routine unterbrechen, gerade dann, wenn jede Menge Arbeit ansteht.

interrupt the routine, especially when there's a lot of work to be done.

Einfach mal tun, was mir spontan in den Sinn kommt und worauf ich auch Lust habe.

Just do what comes to my mind spontaneously and what I feel like doing.

Gerne auch mal was Verrücktes.

Feel free to do something crazy as well.

Und sei es nur für einen kurzen Moment.

And if only for a short moment.

Die Zeit ist jetzt.

The time is now.

Die Zeit anhalten, wenn es so schön ist, das klappt halt nicht.

Stopping time when it's so beautiful just doesn't work.

Aber die Arbeit und den Alltag mal kurz zu unterbrechen,

But to take a brief break from work and everyday life,

mutig das tun, was mich freut und mich wieder in Schwung bringt,

bravely do what makes me happy and revitalizes me,

das geht.

That works.

Nicht nur sonntags.

Not just on Sundays.
