Wie fühlt man sich hier auf dem Lyx Festival als Autorin? Ist das irgendwie mega stressig?

How does it feel to be here at the Lyx Festival as an author? Is it somehow super stressful?

Stressig würde ich es tatsächlich nicht nennen. Eher ein bisschen aufregend und auch ein bisschen überfordernd und überwältigend, aber auch sehr, sehr schön.

I wouldn't actually call it stressful. More like a bit exciting and also a bit overwhelming and daunting, but also very, very beautiful.

Es ist ja alles sehr, sehr liebevoll dekoriert und die Leute sind alle so nett.

Everything is decorated very, very lovingly and the people are all so nice.

Es ist wie so ein großer Safe Space irgendwie und alle lieben Bücher und das ist irgendwie ein richtig schönes Gefühl, finde ich.

It's like a big safe space somehow, and everyone loves books, and I think that's really a beautiful feeling.

Beim Lyx Festival ging es um Liebesromane. Das ist nicht ganz so meine Domain.

The Lyx Festival was about romance novels. That's not really my area.

Deswegen war für das Literaturcafé.de Juliane Hartmann vor Ort, die ich jetzt begrüße.

Das Lyx Festival. Was war das dann genau, wo du da warst?

The Lyx Festival. What exactly was that, where you were?

Der Lyx Verlag hatte vom 2. bis zum 4. August in Köln, ganz zentral in der Altstadt, den Gürzenich angemietet.

The Lyx publishing house rented the Gürzenich in Cologne, right in the heart of the old town, from August 2nd to August 4th.

Das ist eine riesige Festhalle.

That is a huge festival hall.

Also man kann sich das wirklich so vorstellen, wenn man dann so reinkommt, ist es wie auf so einer ganz großen, schicken Hochzeit mit ganz vielen Details.

So you can really imagine it like this: when you walk in, it's like being at a very large, fancy wedding with lots of details.

Also am Eingang waren schon rosa Luftballons und dann ganz viele Rosen und Blumen.

So at the entrance there were already pink balloons and then lots of roses and flowers.

Vielleicht sollten wir das mal sehen.

Maybe we should take a look at that.

Vielleicht sollten wir erst mal anfangen, bevor wir über dieses Lyx Festival und was das Besondere war, zu sprechen, über den Lyx Verlag sprechen, für die, die ihn nicht kennen sollten.

Perhaps we should start by talking about the Lyx Verlag for those who may not be familiar with it, before discussing this Lyx Festival and what made it special.

Der Lyx Verlag gehört zur Bastei Löwe Gruppe.

The Lyx publishing house belongs to the Bastei Löwe group.

Der Lyx Verlag produziert Bücher im Bereich New Adult.

The Lyx publishing house produces books in the New Adult genre.

Das ist ja das Genre, was man gerade überall hört.

That's the genre you hear everywhere right now.

Also es geht um Liebesromane, Liebesgeschichten mit jüngeren Erwachsenen.

So it's about romance novels, love stories with younger adults.

Wird vor allem auch von dem Zielpublikum junge Frauen, im Bereich von 16 bis 20 Jahren.

Is primarily aimed at the target audience of young women, in the age range of 16 to 20 years.

Jahre gelesen, aber durchaus auch von älteren, vorwiegend weiblichen Publikum.

Years read, but certainly also by older, predominantly female audiences.

Wer also davon noch nichts gehört hat, der möge bitte einfach mal in die Buchhandlung seiner oder ihrer Wahl gehen.

So if anyone hasn’t heard of this yet, please feel free to just go to the bookstore of your choice.

Dort sind es die Titel, die meistens erkennbar sind an ja sehr blumigen, rosa-roten Covern, Farbschnitt natürlich.

There, the titles are usually recognizable by their very floral, pink-red covers, of course with colored edges.

Die Titel meistens beinhalten sie auch ein englisches Wort, beziehungsweise sind komplett auf Englisch, obwohl es eben auch deutschsprachige Autorinnen sind, die für diesen Verlag schreiben.

The titles mostly include an English word or are completely in English, even though there are also German-speaking authors who write for this publisher.

Aber das ist etwas, woran man auch diese Bücher erkennt, würde ich jetzt mal sagen.

But that's something that you can also recognize these books by, I would say.

Und in genau diesen Farben war auch dann das Festival gehalten.

And the festival was held in exactly those colors.

Also schon wenn man reinkam vor dem Eingang, waren da rosa-rote Luftballons und drinnen auch ganz viel Schleifchen und Rosen.

So, right when you entered in front of the entrance, there were pink-red balloons and inside there were also a lot of ribbons and roses.

Festival, was bedeutet jetzt Festival?

Festival, what does Festival mean now?

Das bedeutet, dass der Lyx Verlag sich eine Festlocation in der Kölner Altstadt angemietet hat, der Gürzenich.

This means that the Lyx publishing house has rented a permanent location in the Cologne Old Town, the Gürzenich.

Das ist wirklich eine riesige Festhalle.

That is really a huge festival hall.

Da konnte man sich dann ein Ticket buchen und von Freitag bis Sonntag.

You could then book a ticket and stay from Friday to Sunday.

Oder auch nur an einem der Tage Anfang August hingehen.

Or just go on one of the days in early August.

Ganz zentral war natürlich, dass Autorinnen des Lyx Verlags vor Ort waren und auch wirklich sehr nahbar waren.

It was of course central that female authors from the Lyx publishing house were present and very approachable.

Und wie viele Leute waren da?

And how many people were there?

Insgesamt waren da über das Wochenende verteilt mehrere tausend Leute da.

Overall, there were several thousand people there spread over the weekend.

Also innen drin war das in dem Raum überhaupt nicht überfüllt.

So inside, the room was not crowded at all.

Das hat sich da ziemlich gut verteilt.

That has spread out quite well there.

Da waren auch an verschiedenen Ecken verschiedene Sachen, die man anschauen oder machen konnte.

There were also different things to see or do in various corners.

Allerdings, man hat dann schon gemerkt vor bestimmten Gesprächsrunden mit Autorinnen,

However, one had already noticed before certain discussion rounds with female authors,

da war dann, ging mal eine Schlange durch den ganzen Raum oder eben auch bei den Signierstunden.

There was then, sometimes a line went through the whole room or even during the signing sessions.

Da haben sich dann schon die Leute gehäuft, wenn sie so angestanden sind.

Then people started to gather there when they were standing in line.

Das Ganze fand also statt vom Freitag, dem 2. August bis zum Sonntag, dem 4. August.

The whole event took place from Friday, August 2nd to Sunday, August 4th.

Das heißt, es war dann auch Programm geboten.

That means there was also a program offered.

Genau, also es gab während des ganzen Wochenendes verschiedene Programmpunkte.

Exactly, there were various program items during the whole weekend.

Also die Formate waren eben Talks.

So the formats were basically talks.

Also das waren dann Gespräche, die eine Moderatorin mit ein paar Autorinnen geführt hat zu bestimmten Themen.

So those were discussions that a moderator had with a few authors on certain topics.

Also es ging um...

So it was about...

Social Media, aber auch wie schreibe ich ein Liebesroman.

Social media, but also how do I write a romance novel.

Dann gab es die Signierstunden mit Autorinnen und dann gab es auch noch Workshops im ganz kleinen Rahmen mit Autorinnen.

Then there were the signing sessions with authors, and there were also workshops on a very small scale with authors.

Das waren so diese offiziellen Programmpunkte.

Those were the official program items.

Aber dann war auch noch viel mehr geboten.

But then there was also much more on offer.

Also es gab wirklich ganz süß in der Mitte von manchen Räumen Tische, wo man sich hinsetzen konnte.

Well, there were really quite cute tables in the middle of some rooms where you could sit down.

Und dann haben da junge Mädels Perlenarmbänder zum Beispiel zusammen gebastelt.

And then young girls made bead bracelets together, for example.

Und dann gab es auch, passend zu den Büchern und dem Inhalt von diesen...

And then there were also, corresponding to the books and their content...

In diesen Büchern noch solche Themenecken, wie zum Beispiel die Bücher, die gerade ganz angesagt sind von Mona Kasten,

In these books, there are also theme corners, like for example the books that are currently very popular by Mona Kasten.

diese Maxton-Hall-Reihe, das spielt ja in so einer alten Universität.

This Maxton Hall series is set in such an old university.

Und da wurde das wirklich wie so eine Bühnenszene dem nachempfunden, dass da so ein alter Schreibtisch war

And then it was really like a stage scene, with an old desk there.

und solche ganz dunklen, großen Buchregale, die voll waren mit den Büchern von Mona Kasten.

and those very dark, large bookshelves that were full of Mona Kasten's books.

Oder dann ein anderes Buch aus dem Genre ist der Icebreaker.

Or another book from the genre is the Icebreaker.

Da geht es um Eishockey in den USA.

It's about ice hockey in the USA.

Und dann war wirklich so eine ganze Sporthalle, so ein Umkleideraum von einer Eishockey-Mannschaft,

And then there was really an entire sports hall, like a locker room of a hockey team,

da dargestellt und zwischenrein halt auch so ganz liebevolle kleine Details und die entsprechenden Bücher standen da drin.

There it is depicted, and in between there are also charming little details, and the corresponding books were included in it.

Also man konnte sich dann einfach umgucken.

So, one could simply look around.

Es gab auch überall ganz viele Bücher vom Lyx-Verlag, die ganz schön präsentiert waren, die man dann auch kaufen konnte.

There were also a lot of books from the Lyx publishing house everywhere, which were nicely displayed and could be purchased.

Es gab Postkarten zum Mitnehmen und auch ein paar Merchandising-Artikel vom Verlag selbst, die man sich so erwerben konnte.

There were postcards to take and also a few merchandise items from the publisher itself that you could purchase.

Also auch alles von Taschen bis hin zu Schmuckstücken, Lesezeichen, ja, verschiedenste Sachen.

So, everything from bags to jewelry pieces, bookmarks, yes, a variety of things.

Hannah Grace war übrigens das einzige und erste Buch, was ich im Zug beobachtet habe,

Hannah Grace was, by the way, the only and first book I observed on the train.

was tatsächlich ein Mann, also ein junger Mann gelesen hat.

what a man, a young man, has actually read.

Aber ansonsten, du hast ja gesagt, Zielgruppe ist eher das weibliche Publikum.

But otherwise, you said that the target audience is mainly the female public.

Waren denn da überhaupt auch Männer unterwegs?

Were there any men out and about?

Also mir kam es schon eher so vor, dass es dann die Männer waren,

Well, it seemed to me more that it was the men then,

die die Körbe mit den Büchern für ihre Freundinnen durch die Gegend getragen haben.

who carried the baskets with the books for their friends around.

Oder dann auch mal der Freund einer Autorin, der bei einer Gesprächsrunde dabei saß.

Or then also the friend of an author who sat in on a discussion panel.

Sonst...

Otherwise...

War das Publikum schon sehr überwiegend weiblich.

The audience was predominantly female.

Und die mussten auch Eintritt zahlen, um da hinzukommen?

And did they have to pay admission to get there?

Das heißt, es war ja keine kostenlose Veranstaltung?

That means it wasn't a free event?

Ja, also es mussten alle Eintritt zahlen, um da reinzukommen, ja.

Yes, everyone had to pay an entrance fee to get in, yes.

Da gab es also verschiedene Kategorien auch an, was man da bekam oder was man dann buchen konnte.

So there were different categories regarding what you could get or what you could then book.

Genau, es gab so ein Ticket nur zum Gucken und es gab dann eben auch noch mit Plus-Signierstunden

Exactly, there was a ticket just for watching and then there were also Plus-signing hours.

oder irgendwelche Workshops dazu und dann eben auch nur für einen Tag oder für das ganze Wochenende.

or any workshops on it, and then just for one day or for the whole weekend.

Wie waren die Preise? Wie lagen die Preise?

How were the prices? How did the prices compare?

Ich glaube, es ging bei 30 Euro los für einen Tag und nur so drin rumgucken

I think it started at 30 euros for one day and just looking around.

und das Standardprogramm bis zu 70, 80 Euro oder ja, so bis zu im Bereich von 100 Euro, glaube ich, war es.

and the standard program costs up to 70, 80 euros or yes, up to around 100 euros, I believe it was.

Also durchaus gutes Geld, was die Leute da zahlen. Warum geht man zu diesem Festival?

So it's quite a lot of money that people pay there. Why do they go to this festival?

Ja, dafür wurde einem aber auch wirklich was geboten, muss man sagen.

Yes, you really got something for that, I must say.

Das war unglaublich, diese Liebe zum Detail, die man da so rausgespürt hat

That was incredible, the love for detail that one could really sense.

und auch die Liebe zu Büchern vom ganzen Verlag, was da so ausging.

and also the love for books from the whole publishing house, which came out of it.

Also es war eine wunderschöne...

So it was a beautiful...

Eine Stimmung dort, wie ich schon anfangs gesagt habe.

A mood there, as I mentioned at the beginning.

Also als würde man so bei einer Hochzeit da auch die Festräume betreten mit Schleifen und Stimmung.

So it's as if you would enter the event halls at a wedding with ribbons and a festive atmosphere.

Ja, man geht da hin, um sich mit anderen Leserinnen auszutauschen.

Yes, you go there to exchange ideas with other readers.

Also wirklich auch in dieser Booktalk-Community auf TikTok zum Beispiel,

So really, also in this Booktalk community on TikTok, for example,

da sind ja auch ganz viele junge Frauen aktiv und die haben sich da zum Teil dann zum ersten Mal

There are many young women active there, and some of them have experienced it for the first time.

in der Realität getroffen und vernetzt.

met and connected in reality.

Deswegen geht man auf jeden Fall hin, dann eben auch wirklich,

That's why you definitely go there, then really as well.

um einfach diese Bücherstimmung zu genießen und unter Gleichgesinnten zu sein.

to simply enjoy this book atmosphere and be among like-minded people.

Aber natürlich auch ein großer Grund für viele war bestimmt auch,

ihre Autorinnen, ihre Lieblingsautorinnen live zu sehen, eventuell ein Autogramm zu bekommen

to see their authors, their favorite authors live, possibly to get an autograph

oder wenn man richtig viel Glück hat, mit denen sogar ein paar Worte zu wechseln.

Auf den Buchmessen kann man es ja schon beobachten,

dass sich dann wirklich meterlange oder hundertmeterlange und längere Schlange bilden.

Es gibt ja auch da TikTok-Videos von diesen Schlangen am Lüx-Stand auf den Buchmessen.

Das heißt, war das da...

Eben nicht. Das war dieser Vorteil, dass man eben wirklich reinkam

Es gab eben dann vor bestimmten Events, vor diesen Programmpunkten oder vor den Signierstunden,

da musste man sich dann schon mal anstellen, aber eben nicht so von Anfang an.

Also das war eben bei dem, hat der Lüx-Verlag auch gesagt,

Man sieht die Bücher wirklich anhand der Cover, da sind diese Namen schon ganz groß.

Ich fand es aber trotzdem sehr interessant, wie sich die Autorinnen dann wiederum gegeben haben

I still found it very interesting how the authors presented themselves.

in den Gesprächen. Die waren sehr auf dem Boden geblieben.

In the discussions. They were very down to earth.

Also es kam überhaupt nichts Eingebildetes rüber oder dass sie sich irgendwie so gefühlt hätten,

So, nothing imagined came across at all, nor did they feel that way in any way.

als wären sie so Stars, sondern also sehr bescheiden, also schon eloquent und nahbar,

as if they were stars, but rather very modest, still eloquent and approachable,

aber jetzt überhaupt nichts Überhebliches oder Popstar-Getue oder irgendwie sowas.

but now absolutely nothing arrogant or pop star antics or anything like that.

Also ich war sogar erstaunt, gerade von Mona Karsten, wo ich dachte, Wahnsinn,

Well, I was actually astonished, especially from Mona Karsten, where I thought, incredible,

die hat jetzt so eine Serie, die so erfolgreich ist wie kaum eine Serie.

She now has a series that is as successful as hardly any other series.

And you were also able to talk to one of these authors on the sidelines of the Lyx Festival.

Ja, ganz genau. Da hatte ich noch Glück, weil im Voraus wurde mir gesagt,

nee, die Autorinnen sind so beschäftigt, die stehen nicht für Interviews zur Verfügung.

Und dann hatte ich aber beobachtet, ich saß da wirklich gerade in der Ecke

und habe von genau der Autorin das Buch gelesen.

Und dann habe ich gesehen, wie sie da so erst mit jemand gesprochen hat und dann näher kam.

And then I saw how she was talking to someone there and then came closer.

Und dann habe ich sie angesprochen und sie hat dann gesagt,

And then I approached her and she said,

dass sie mir gerne ein Interview gibt, was mich natürlich sehr gefreut hat.

that she would be happy to give me an interview, which of course made me very happy.

Natürlich New Adult, aber wo spielen diese Bücher?

Was ist das für ein Subgenre oder Tropes, muss man ja eigentlich sagen?

Sie hat zuletzt ein Buch veröffentlicht, da geht es um ein großes Parfum-Unternehmen

und den Erben, das ist ein junger Mann dieses Unternehmens

und eine Liebesgeschichte zur jungen Frau, die da auch eine Rolle spielt.

Und in dem Buch dreht sich dann alles um.

Und das ist eben sehr sinnlich und spielen tut das in der Tat in England, unter anderem in London.

Stressig würde ich es tatsächlich nicht nennen.

I wouldn't actually call it stressful.

Eher ein bisschen aufregend und auch ein bisschen überfordernd.

Rather a bit exciting and also a bit overwhelming.

Überwältigend, aber auch sehr, sehr schön.

Overwhelming, but also very, very beautiful.

Also es ist ja alles sehr, sehr liebevoll dekoriert und die Leute sind alle so nett.

Well, everything is very, very lovingly decorated and the people are all so nice.

Also es ist wie so ein großer Safe Space irgendwie und alle lieben Bücher

und das ist irgendwie ein richtig schönes Gefühl, finde ich.

Fühlst du dich denn so ein bisschen wie so ein Popstar hier?

Nee, also tatsächlich gar nicht.

No, actually not at all.

Also ich finde immer eher, dass man ja auch so ein bisschen hinter seinen Büchern zurücktritt.

I always think that one should also somewhat step back from their books.

Also wenn ich jetzt hier auch überall mein Buch liegen sehe,

So if I see my book lying around everywhere here now,

ist es eher so, dass ich denke, oh es ist so schön, dass das hier sein darf irgendwie.

It's more like I think, oh it's so nice that this can be here somehow.

Aber also ich meine, ich bin ja letztendlich auch nur eine Person,

But I mean, in the end, I am just a person too,

die Bücher liebt und die schreiben liebt und die lesen liebt

loves books, loves writing, and loves reading

und ich sehe da jetzt nicht so einen großen Unterschied.

and I don't see such a big difference there now.
