Ich kam mit dem Pacing überhaupt nicht zurecht.
I couldn't cope with the pacing at all.
Ich fand ihn wirklich öde.
I found him really boring.
Ich fand ihn gar nicht subtil.
I didn't find him subtle at all.

Das war mir, ich glaube, das ist der zweite Godzilla-Film, den ich erst gesehen habe.
That was me, I think this is the second Godzilla movie that I have seen first.
Der andere war dieser von diesem amerikanischen Deutschen.
The other was this one by this American German.
Der ist natürlich sehr unjapanisch.
He is, of course, very un-Japanese.
Was ich nicht wusste, ich glaube, Christiane hat es uns neulich gesagt, dass es bei Godzilla halt um die Verarbeitung mit der Atombombe geht.
What I didn't know, I believe Christiane told us recently, is that Godzilla is actually about processing the atomic bomb.
Das hatte ich auch im Hinterkopf.

Und man hat ja auch jede zweite Action-Einstellung war halt irgendwie eine Atomexplosion, oder?

Genau, das war in dem Emmerich-Film kam das nicht rüber, fand ich.

Hier war es halt sehr wenig subtil.

Godzilla steht doch auch in der Historie so für alles, was Japan so bedroht.

Also, klar, für die Atombombe, aber eben auch Tsunamis und Erdbeben und also Katastrophen als solche, die Japan überwinden muss.

Ja, das war völlig absurd, dass die dem sagen, ja, du musst aber für dein Kind noch überleben und so.

Also, das fand ich sehr, sehr unjapanisch und überhaupt nicht zu der Zeit passend und auch überhaupt nicht zur Geschichte passend, weil er sollte sich ja eigentlich schon opfern.

Und am Ende wird es dann so hingestellt, auch wie lange das braucht, bis die Figuren, die da in der Szene dann sind, realisieren, was jetzt wirklich passiert ist und nicht das, was wir denken sollen, was passiert ist.
And in the end, it is portrayed in such a way that it takes a while for the characters in the scene to realize what has really happened, and not what we are supposed to think has happened.
Aber wir denken das gar nicht, weil wir die Szenen vorher mit dem Mechaniker gesehen haben und wenn wir nicht völlig verblödet sind, dann wissen wir, was alles nicht passiert ist, was wir denken sollen, was passiert ist.
But we don't think that at all, because we saw the scenes beforehand with the mechanic, and if we are not completely stupid, then we know what didn’t happen, what we are supposed to think happened.
Und das fand ich ein bisschen anstrengend, aber ansonsten muss ich sagen, ich mochte den Film, glaube ich, mehr als du.

Du hast mich ja glücklicherweise gewarnt, wir haben uns ja am Tag, bevor ich ihn geschaut habe, getroffen und du hattest mir so ein bisschen durchblicken lassen, wie du da am Hadern bist mit der Langsamkeit und so weiter.
Fortunately, you warned me; we met on the day before I watched it, and you gave me a little insight into how you're struggling with the slowness and so on.
Es wurde dann ja ein bisschen besser, als dann Godzilla nach Tokio kam.
It got a little better when Godzilla came to Tokyo.

Nee, nee, da hatte ich die Hälfte gesehen und das war ja wirklich so Jammern in Ruinen, stundenlang gefühlt.

Ich habe es zum Teil auf Skip, Skip, Skip geschaut.

Welche Sprache wäre denn gekommen, wenn du langsam geschaut hättest?

In der Regel Deutsch, ich habe es auch mal auf Japanisch, aber ich habe gemerkt, dass es mir auf Japanisch auch keinen Spaß macht.
Usually German, I have also tried it in Japanese, but I realized that I don't enjoy it in Japanese either.
Ich meine, ja, das Japanisch ist offensichtlich nicht so gut übersetzbar oder synchronisierbar, deswegen wird es immer irgendwie komisch, klingt irgendwie seltsam und artifiziell.
I mean, yes, the Japanese is obviously not very well translatable or synchronizable, which is why it always sounds kind of strange, somehow weird and artificial.
Aber Japanisch klingt in meinen Ohren auch komisch, also von daher, das spielt jetzt für mich keine Rolle.

Und die überspielen ja auch so komisch, das ist halt, ja, was heißt komisch, ungewohnt für uns.

Dieses einerseits so ein langsames Pacing und andererseits dann so krasses Überspielen, komisch irgendwie.

Ja, manche Szenen, vor allen Dingen diese Crew auf dem Schiff.

Also sowohl am Anfang da auf dem kleinen Minensuchboot, als auch später auf den großen Schiffen.
So both at the beginning on the small minesweeper and later on the large ships.
Manche von denen sind immer so Ticken drüber, so irgendwie.
Some of them are always a bit off, in a way.
Die Augen sind extrem aufgerissen.
The eyes are extremely wide open.
Ja, genau.

Und das nicht Louis-Diffenay-Töne machen, das ist auch alles.

Das ist, man hat dann so das Gefühl, das ist doch, der Film meint das doch alles ernst.

Warum macht der immer so Comedy-Augengesichter?

Und halt sehr Pathos-Wanger, so japanische Pathos.

Das ist halt anders als der amerikanische, den wir so üblicherweise gewohnt sind.

Aber du kannst ja trotzdem nicht anders als das entsprechend zur Kenntnis zu nehmen und irgendwie befremdlich zu finden.

Zumindest geht mir das so.

Und dann war der halt auch optisch an manchen Stellen ein bisschen seltsam.

Ich hatte den irgendwie so abgespeichert als voll die aufwendige Produktion, muss voll geil aussehen und so weiter.
I had somehow saved it as a really intricate production, it must look really awesome and so on.
Und ich fand ja, der Godzilla selber und wie er da so unter Wasser ist und so.
And I thought, Godzilla himself and how he is down there underwater and all.
Ich fand den sehr, sehr gut aus.
I thought he looked very, very good.
Ich fand, der sah so aus, wie er aussehen muss.
I thought he looked just as he should look.
Aber gleich am Anfang auf dieser Insel, wo er da landet, wo das Viech zum ersten Mal kommt, wo es auch noch viel kleiner ist.
But right at the beginning on this island, where he lands, where the creature comes for the first time, where it is also much smaller.
Das wird dann irgendwie wohl offensichtlich noch größer durch Atomtests und so, was ja auch irgendwie lustig ist.
That somehow becomes even more obvious due to nuclear tests and so on, which is also somewhat amusing.
Als der da kam, noch bevor der kam, laufen so ein paar Leute irgendwie vor so Flugzeugen ins Bild und du sahst so A, Studiolicht, B, Greenscreen.

Das sprang.

Mit dem Godzilla konnte ich irgendwie arbeiten, aber.

Wie der Godzilla diese U-Bahn oder was das ist, durch die Gegend trägt und diese Frau da drin hängt, das sah aus wie aus den, was weiß ich, 40ern oder 50ern.
The way Godzilla is carrying this subway or whatever it is around, with that woman hanging inside, looked like something out of the, I don't know, 40s or 50s.
Wieso beißt der ausgerechnet in den U-Bahnwagen, wo sie drin sitzt?
Why is he biting in the subway car where she is sitting?
Wieso interessiert der sich immer für die kleinen Anlagen?
Why is he always interested in the small systems?
Wieso interessiert der sich immer für die kleinen Ameisen da unten, statt die Häuser zu zerkloppen?
Why is he always interested in the little ants down there instead of smashing the houses?
Wieso weiß der, wo in welchem U-Bahnwagen sie sitzt?
Why does he know which subway car she is sitting in?
Und wieso fällt sie dann ins Wasser und steht eine Minute später vollkommen getrocknet und mit Haaren frisiert neben ihm in der Straße?
And why does she fall into the water and then stand completely dry and with styled hair next to him on the street a minute later?
Warum passieren alles so unsinnige Dinge in diesem Film?
Why do so many nonsensical things happen in this movie?
Und warum sehen die Panzer aus, als wären sie aus Pappe?
And why do the tanks look like they're made of cardboard?
Warum sieht alles aus, als sei es aus dem Computer?

Dieses unerträgliche Wasser.
