この1年、家にいることが長くなって

This past year, I've been spending a lot more time at home.

庭やベランダでのガーデニングを楽しまれる方も増えたのではないでしょうか

More and more people have likely started to enjoy gardening in their yards and balconies.

うちもそんな家の一つです

We are one such household.

ベランダにいくつか置いてある植物の世話を

Taking care of the plants placed on the balcony.

子どもたちは楽しそうにしています

The children seem to be having fun.

私は植物を育てるのがあまり得意な方ではないのですが

I'm not really good at growing plants.

そんな子どもたちの楽しそうで一生懸命な姿を彷彿とさせる本を

A book that evokes the image of those children having fun and giving their all.

今日はご紹介したいと思います

ある日、鉢植えの世話をするよと言って

One day, I said I would take care of the potted plants.

家にたくさんの鉢植えを並べ始めたトミー

Tommy started to line up a lot of potted plants at home.

お母さんはびっくり

Mom is surprised.

お父さんは少し機嫌が悪そうです

Dad seems to be in a bit of a bad mood.

なぜトミーはこんなにたくさんの鉢植えを世話することになったのかというと

The reason Tommy ended up taking care of so many potted plants is that

お父さんの仕事が忙しくて夏休みにどこにも行けない代わりに

Since dad's job is busy and we can't go anywhere during summer vacation,

近所の人の鉢植えを預かって世話をするアルバイトをすることにしたというのです

I decided to take a part-time job taking care of a neighbor's potted plants.

I didn't know until I grew up that the same authors had written other series as well.

Just like Doronko Harry.

It is a collaboratively produced book.

確かにそういう観点から見ると

Indeed, from that perspective.

作品のテーマ通り植物はもちろんたくさん描かれているのですが

As the theme of the work suggests, many plants are of course depicted.

ページのあちらこちらに犬や猫が出てきて

Dogs and cats appear here and there on the page.

この二人の作品らしいなという感じがします

It feels like a work that truly belongs to these two.

黄色・緑・青など限られた色彩で

With limited colors such as yellow, green, and blue.

穏やかに描かれた水彩画が

A watercolor painting depicted in a gentle manner.

目にも優しく

Easy on the eyes.

読み続けていても苦になりません

I don’t find it difficult to keep reading.

うるさくないのに明るくて

暖かくてとてもほっとします

トミーは日当たりを研究したり

Tommy studied sunlight exposure.

朝から晩まで水やりをしたり

Watering from morning till evening.

片っ端から植物の本を開いて読んでみたり

I opened and read books about plants one after another.

園芸店に走って植木の道具を買ってみたり

I ran to the garden shop to buy some gardening tools.

とにかく一生懸命です

Anyway, I'm putting in my best effort.

一方トミーのお父さんは

On the other hand, Tommy's father...

家中蜂蝋にあふれていることに文句を言ってみたり

I tried complaining about the house being filled with beeswax.

こんなこといつまで続けるんだろうと

I wonder how long this will continue.

ブツクサ文句を言ってみたり

Trying to grumble and complain.

とにかく一生懸命です

I will do my best, no matter what.

とにかく不機嫌さを隠しません

Anyway, I won't hide my displeasure.

そのお父さんの姿はとても滑稽で

That father's appearance is very amusing.

ユーモラスに描かれているのですが

It is portrayed humorously, but...

自分の身に置き換えてみると

If I put myself in that situation...

自分の子供たちがトミーと同じようなことをしたら

If my children did something similar to Tommy,

きっと私はトミーの父親と同じような反応をするんだろうなと思って

I guess I would probably react in a similar way to Tommy's father.

反省をしました

I reflected on it.

今回は
