Satoko is from Fukuoka Prefecture and currently lives in Fukuoka City.

福岡オーガニックマルシェを主催されているパワーウーマンです

She is a powerful woman who organizes the Fukuoka Organic Market.

さと子さんは美食家でオーガニックマルシェをされているという

Satoko is a gourmet and runs an organic market.

お話を私も聞いていろいろ興味があるんですけれども

I'm also interested in hearing your story, but...

まずそもそもどうしてそういうお仕事をするようになったのか

First of all, why did you start doing such work?

その経緯からお話しして

Let me explain the background.

オーガニックマルシェをするようになった経緯はですね

The reason I started doing the organic market is...

結構長いんですけれど

It's quite long, though.

オーガニックに目覚めたきっかけっていうのは

The reason I became aware of organic products is...

私子供がですね2人いまして

I have two children.

高校生の長男と小学生の娘長女がいるんですが

I have a high school son and an elementary school daughter.

長女の妊娠中に座りがなかなか終わらなくて

During my eldest daughter's pregnancy, the sitting wouldn't come to an end.

おかしいなと思って

I thought it was strange.

何を食べたら吐くのかなと思って

I was wondering what I would have to eat to throw up.

いろいろ人体実験をしたんですよ

I conducted various human experiments.

そしたら

Then...

添加物を食べたら吐くっていうことが分かって

I realized that if I eat additives, I vomit.

それでいろいろ食べて

So, I ate various things.

添加物に反応してるんだと思って

I think it's reacting to additives.

そこから食のことを学び出したんですよね

That's when I started to learn about food.

そうなんだ

I see.

それはもう顕著に現れたんですか

Has it already become明显?

添加物の入っているものを食べたら絶対気持ち悪くなるみたいな

It feels like if I eat something that contains additives, I will definitely feel sick.

そうです

That's right.

もう本当に嘔吐して

I really want to vomit.

そうなんです

That's right.

なのでそこから添加物かと思って

So I thought it might be an additive from there.

それでいろいろ食のことを調べ出したんですよ

So I started looking into various food matters.

世の中に売ってあるものの

Things sold in the world.

ほとんどが添加物がものすごいろいろ入っていて

Most of them contain a tremendous variety of additives.

コンビニとかね

Like convenience stores, you know?

スーパーとかだと

At a supermarket or something.

そんな感じかなと思うじゃないですか

I think that's how it feels.

そういったのは食べなかったんですけれど

I didn't eat that kind of thing, though.

デパ地下とかもね

Like department store basements, too.

ことごとく私は食べれなくて

I can't eat anything at all.

全部やっぱりダメで

Everything is just no good after all.

全部にいろいろ防腐剤とかね

Various preservatives in everything, you know.

いろいろ入ってるんだなって分かって

I realize that a lot of things are included.

そこから添加物農薬とか

From there, additives and pesticides, etc.

電磁波のことだったり

It was about electromagnetic waves.

洗剤とか

Detergents and things like that.

ありであらゆる身の回りのことを

With everything around me.

もう調べると

If I investigate further,

まくったわけですよ

I rolled it up.

子供が生まれて

A child is born.

でも子供は生まれたので

But a child was born.

食べれるようになったんですけれど

I've gotten to the point where I can eat it.

儚いので

Because it is fleeting.

すごく教えてくれたんだなと思って

I thought you really taught me a lot.

そこで食の大切さっていうのに

That's why the importance of food.

気づいたんですけれど

I've noticed.

そこから3年ぐらいして

About three years after that.

娘が3歳の時に

When my daughter was three years old

私は起業したんですけれども

I started my own business, but...

最初にレストランを大垣にして

First, let's go to the restaurant in Ogaki.

オーガニックのレストランを始めたんですよ

I've started an organic restaurant.

それが最初だったんだ

That was the first time.

なるほど

I see.

やっぱりこのね

After all, this one...

食の現状を

The current state of food.

たくさんの人にね

To a lot of people.

お知らせしないとと思って

I thought I should let you know.

たくさんの方にもらいたいと思ってですね

I want to receive it from many people.

それを発信するためのレストランをやって

I'm running a restaurant to promote that.

そのレストランで

At that restaurant

いろいろな先生方をお招きして

Inviting various teachers.

セミナーとかをやっていただいて

Please hold seminars and such.

そういう運営をしていたんですけど

That’s the kind of operation we were running.

そこから始まったんですけれど

It all started from there.

そのレストランはですね

That restaurant is...

8年前にやったんですよね

It was done eight years ago, right?

その頃オーガニックとかエシカルとか

At that time, things like organic and ethical were...

フェアトレードとかを取り入れた

Incorporated fair trade and other practices.

レストランだったんですけれど

It was a restaurant, but...

なかなかね福岡ではですね

Well, in Fukuoka...

流行らなくて

Not popular.

1年2年ぐらいで

In about one to two years.

お店を閉めることになりまして

We have decided to close the store.

その後

After that.

そういう食の栄養学とか

Such nutrition in food and diet.

そういったまた有名な先生を

That famous teacher again.

国内外からお招きして

Invited from both domestic and overseas.

講演会ですね

It's a lecture.

先生方の講演会の主催を

Hosting a lecture by the teachers.

私がやってました

I was doing it.

それを経て

After that experience

学校給食の問題に取り組みまして

Addressing the issues of school lunches.

小学校のですね

It's from elementary school.

学校給食っていうのが

It's called school lunch.

息子がちょうど小学3年生ぐらいだったので

My son was just around the third grade of elementary school.

それは息子がきっかけだったので

It was triggered by my son.

子育ての時期があったんですけれど

There was a time when I was raising children.

色々ちょっと調べるきっかけがあってですね

I had a reason to look into various things a bit.

調べてみたら

When I looked it up

ああまあなんてすごい

Ah, that's incredible!

すごいんだと思って

I think it's amazing.

結構ねやっぱり

That's quite interesting, I suppose.

まあまあ捉え方いろいろなんですけれど

Well, there are different ways to interpret it.

私のようにすごく食に気をつけて

Be very careful about food, like I am.

生活していると

When living life,

学校の給食がだいぶね

The school lunch has been quite something.

10倍ぐらい添加物が多い感じなんですよ

It feels like there are about 10 times more additives.

でも給食の担当の方

But the person in charge of the school lunch.

その市のね

In that city.

方とかに聞いたら

If I ask someone, like a person,

一般の市場より

Than the general market.

ものすごく少ないですって言うんですよ

They say it's extremely few.

なるほど

I see.

気をつけてはいるわけですよ

I'm being careful, you know.

ただ見ている基準が全然違っていて

The standards for just watching are completely different.

給食のですね

It's about the school lunch.

問題点っていうのをやっぱり

I guess the problem is...

調べないといけないので

I need to investigate.

学校給食改革委員会っていうのを結成して

We formed a committee for reforming school lunches.

市議会議員さんとか

City council members and such.

県議会議員さんとかそれを

Like the prefectural assembly members and that.

政治家の方たちも一緒に勉強をして

Political figures are also studying together.

勉強会はですね

The study session is, well...

3年ぐらいね

About three years.

3ヶ月に1回とかっていうペースでやって

Do it at a pace of once every three months.

じゃあ現実どういう感じなのかっていうのと

So, what does reality feel like?

全国の自治体でどのようにやっているのか

How are local governments across the country doing it?

っていうのと

"That being said"

悪い例とか悪い例とかいろいろありますけれど

There are various bad examples and bad examples, but...

学校の給食を変えて

Change the school lunch.

子どもたちがどういう風になったのかとか

How the children turned out.

実際変えている自治体も結構いろいろ

There are quite a few municipalities that are actually making changes.

全国で見るとあったので

It was found when looking at the nation as a whole.

そういったところをピックアップして

Pick up those kinds of places.

勉強会の題材にして

Make it a subject for the study session.

じゃあ今福岡市の給食は何が問題で

So what's the problem with the school meals in Fukuoka City now?

どのように変えたらいいのかっていうので

I'm wondering how I should change it.

署名活動をしたんですよ

I participated in a signature campaign.

みんなでやって署名を集めて

Let's gather signatures together.

教育長にですね

To the superintendent, you see.

面会お願いして

Requesting a meeting.

お渡しして

I will hand it over.

資料と要望書っていうのをお渡しして

I'll hand over the materials and the request document.

したんですけれど

I did it, but...

それが何年前だろう

I wonder how many years ago that was.

4年?

Four years?

4年前ぐらい

About four years ago.

でも教育委員会と一度

But once with the Board of Education.

ディスカッションの場を設けていただいたんですが

I was given the opportunity to have a discussion.

全然

Not at all.

なんていうのかな

How should I put it?

変える気ないというか

It's not that I have no intention of changing it.

聞く耳もたんじゃないけど

I won't lend an ear, though.

めんどくさいんでしょうね

It must be cumbersome, huh?

必要ないと思ってるのかな

Do you think it's unnecessary?

必要ないって

It's not necessary.

そのコスト的にはどうなんでしょう?

How does that look in terms of cost?

いわゆるオーガニック

So-called organic.

オーガニックとかに求めてなかったんです

I wasn't looking for anything organic.

まずやるべきことは

The first thing to do is

まずパンが

First, the bread is...

外国産小麦で

With imported wheat

グリフォサートも入ってるし

It also contains glyphosate.

マーガリンも入ってるし

It also contains margarine.

トランス脂肪酸

Trans fats.

そのパンを

That bread.

福岡市は週に2回なんですよ

Fukuoka City is twice a week.

ご飯が週3回

Rice three times a week.

だからパンが多いんですよ

That's why there's a lot of bread.

全国平均は週4米飯なので

The national average is four days of rice per week.

ちょっとパン多いから

It's a bit too much bread.

米飯給食にまずやりましょうねっていうのを

Let's start with rice-based school lunches first.

一番やりやすい方法を提案したんですよ

I suggested the easiest method.

ところが

However

やっぱり

As I thought.

パンよりも米の方がちょっとだけ高いんですよ

Rice is just a little more expensive than bread.

なので

So.

ちょっとだけ高いのを

Just a little bit expensive.

変えられないんですよ

I can't change it.

でも今米の消費の方が減ってて困ってるはずだと思ったんですけど

But I thought that the consumption of rice is decreasing now, and that must be a problem.

そんな言ってるけど

You say that, but...

外国から輸入した小麦を使いたいんですよ

I want to use wheat imported from abroad.

へー

Oh, really?

でもパンの話聞いて今はっと思ったのは

But when I heard about the bread, what came to mind was...

福岡に来てすごい思うんですけど

When I came to Fukuoka, I thought it was amazing.

福岡だけじゃないかもしれない

It might not be just Fukuoka.

日本で作るパンって甘すぎません?

Isn't the bread made in Japan too sweet?

あのなんていうのかな

Well, how should I put this...

菓子パンですかね

Is it a sweet bread?

甘い

Sweet

菓子パンじゃなくて食パンにも

Not only for sweet bread but also for regular bread.

砂糖みたいのが結構入ってるというか

It's quite sweet, like there's a lot of sugar in it.

とにかく私はヨーロッパ風のどっちかっていうと

Anyway, I'm more on the European style.

酸っぱいパンに慣れてるからなのか

Is it because I'm used to sour bread?

砂糖ってものが一切入ってないパンが普通だと思ってるので

I think bread that doesn't contain any sugar at all is normal.

どっちかっていうと

More like...

菓子パン以外で白いパンで

White bread other than sweet bread.

だから白いパンとか食べるとすごく甘く感じるし

So when I eat white bread, it tastes really sweet.

後ろの材料を見ると必ずお砂糖みたいなものが入ってるんですよやっぱり

When I look at the ingredients at the back, there's definitely something that looks like sugar in it, as expected.

そうですね

That's right.

なんかふんわり甘いですよね

It has a kind of fluffy sweetness, doesn't it?

そうそうそうそう

That's right, that's right, that's right, that's right.

あれも不思議だなっていつも思ってたんですけど

I've always thought that was strange.

なんかもともと日本はね

Well, originally Japan...

パンを食べる文化はなかったから

Because there was no culture of eating bread.

なんかパンといえばお菓子みたいなイメージがあるんじゃないですか

Isn't there a kind of image that bread is like a snack?

あーかもしれないね

Ah, it might be so.

アメリカから入ってきてるしね

It's coming in from America, you know.

でもそのちょっと甘いパンを要は主食みたいにして食べてるわけで

But I'm basically eating that slightly sweet bread like it's a staple food.

素材の問題もそうなんですがあんまり体にも良くないし

It's not just a matter of the materials, but it's also not very good for the body.

子供たちにとってはすごくね体に負担がかかる食事なんですよ

For children, it's a really heavy burden on their bodies.

なるほどね

I see.

小麦の方が外国産の小麦の方が安くて国産の米の方が高いっていうのは

The fact that imported wheat is cheaper than domestic wheat, and domestic rice is more expensive.

じゃあなんでそんなに小麦がね安いんですかって質問したんですよ

So I asked, "Then why is wheat so cheap?"

まず安いのかご存知ですかって聞いたら

First, I asked if you know whether it is cheap.

工業製品的に大量生産された小麦だからですって答えられた

It was answered that it is because it is wheat produced in large quantities industrially.

よくわかってるじゃないのと思って

I thought you understood well.

だったらそのね工業製品的にね作られた質の悪い小麦をね

Then, that poorly made industrially produced wheat, you know...

子供たちの給食に出していいんですかって聞いたら

"When I asked if it was okay to serve this for the children's lunch..."

いや国が安全だと言ってますので

Well, the government says it's safe.

そうなんだろうね多分でもサスティナブルかって考えると

I guess that's probably true, but when I think about whether it's sustainable...

国産のものを使った方があのねなんていうんですか

It's better to use domestically produced items, you know, how should I put it?

環境問題にも取り組めるような気がなんとなくしますけどね

I somehow feel like we can also tackle environmental issues.

まあ4年前ぐらいはまだねSDGsもそんなに言ってなかったですし

Well, about four years ago, they weren't really talking about the SDGs that much.

そうですね

That's right.

サスティナブルとかもねあんまりその皆さんの意識がねなかった頃だったので

It was a time when people didn't really have awareness about things like sustainability.

今話したらもうちょっと違うね回答が返ってくるかもしれないんですけれど

If I were to talk about it now, I might get a somewhat different response.

そういったことがあってもう給食変わらないんだなっていう

I guess that means the school lunch won't change anymore.

もう全部そういうすべてのことがもう国が安全だと言ってますからだったんですよ

Well, it's because the country is saying that everything is safe now.

いろいろ言ったとしてもいかに悪いのかっていうことがわかっていても

Even if I say various things, I understand how bad it is.

国が安全だと言ってますって終わるんですよ

They say the country is safe, and that’s how it ends.

なるほどなるほど

I see, I see.

やっぱりそういう熱意とか思いがないと変わらないんだなっていうことで

I realized that without that kind of passion or feeling, nothing will change.

私たちも結構げんなり諦めまして

We were also quite fed up and gave up.

とは言ってもオーガニックとか原農薬とか

That said, organic and reduced pesticide.

そういった農作物がないと実現しないじゃないですか

Without such crops, it won't be realized, will it?

いくら買えますって言っても食べれるものがないと

No matter how much you say you can buy, if there's nothing to eat, it's no use.

うんうんうんうん

Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.

うんうんうん

Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh.

じゃあ生産者さんをもっと増やす活動をしようということで

Well then, let's increase the activities to engage more producers.

立ち上がったのが福岡オーガニックマルシェなんです

What started was the Fukuoka Organic Marche.

なるほどなるほどすごいね

I see, I see, that's amazing!

でももちろん自分の体で体験した

But of course, I experienced it with my own body.

つわりとの戦いと添加物の体に対する影響を

The battle with morning sickness and the effects of additives on the body.

自分で体感されて思い立ったことっていう

It's something you think of after experiencing it yourself.

そういう歴史があるとはいえ

Even though there is such a history.

何がそこまで佐渡子さんの情熱を駆り立てるというか

What drives Satoko's passion so much?

なんでそれがそんなにあなたにとって大事なんだろう

I wonder why that is so important to you.

そうですね何でしょうね

Well, I wonder what it could be.

子供の頃から多分正義感は強かったんですよ

I probably always had a strong sense of justice since I was a child.

でもだからといって人に何かがとかいうタイプではなかったんですけれど

But that doesn't mean I was the type to talk about anything with others.

中学生の頃とかは弁護士になりたいとか思ってたし

When I was in middle school, I wanted to be a lawyer and thought about it.

でも何か

But something...

そうはならずに結局バーテンダーっていう仕事をやってたんですけれど

In the end, I ended up doing a job as a bartender instead.

それから結婚して辞めて専業主婦を9年ぐらいやって

After that, I got married, quit my job, and spent about 9 years as a full-time housewife.

その子育ての中でいろいろと気づくものがあって

During that child-rearing process, there were various realizations.

それを世の中の人たちにもっと伝えたいっていう思いで

I have a desire to convey that more to the people of the world.

レストランを始めて

Started a restaurant.

そこからいろいろいろいろいろと

From there, various things happen.

すごいなと思います

I think it's amazing.

思いを表現したいって言って

"I want to express my feelings."

レストランに行く

Going to the restaurant.

レストランを作るっていうところが

The part about creating a restaurant.

すごい発想だなって思うんですよね

I think it's an amazing idea.

すごいっていうのは本当になんていうのかな

What can I say, it's really amazing.

スケールも大きいし

The scale is also large.

結構大変だったと思うんですよね

I think it was quite tough.

今おっしゃってたように

As you just said.

オーガニックっていうものが浸透してないところで

In places where organic has not become widespread.

レストランをする

To run a restaurant.

多分時期早だったんだろうね

Maybe it was too early.

そうですね

理解してくれない環境にあったのかもしれないですね

It might be that I was in an environment that didn't understand me.

そうですね

最初にレストラン始めるときに

When starting a restaurant for the first time,

私よりももっと長く

Longer than me.

前から食事を

I have been wanting to eat.

オーガニックとか気を使っている

I’m being conscious of things like organic products.

友人とかいて

It’s written as "friend."

相談したんですよ

I consulted about it.

こういったお店をやりたいって

I want to run a shop like this.

オーガニックはその人の方が長く経験があるから

Organic has more experience because that person has been doing it longer.

そうなったら

If that happens...

宗教だと思われるから

Because it is thought to be a religion.

オーガニック

Organic

って名前を付けない方がいいって言われました

I was told that it's better not to give it a name.

その時代

そうなんだ

I see.

でもやっぱり昔って

But after all, back in the day...

オーガニックを

Organic.

推進してるというか

It's more like promoting.

オーガニックな生活をしている人って

People who live an organic lifestyle are

割とヒッピー系の方がね

It's somewhat on the hippie side.

多かったみたいで

It seems there were a lot.

ちょっとこう

A little bit like this

なんだろう

I wonder what it is.

自由人的な感じですかね

I guess it's a free-spirited feeling.

だから最近もそんな話で

So recently there has been talk like that.

生産者さんとね

With the producer.

お話ししたんですけれど

I talked about it.

やっぱ宮崎とか鹿児島の方とか

As expected, places like Miyazaki and Kagoshima.

南の方のオーガニックがすごく

The organic products in the south are amazing.

30年くらい前から盛んでですね

It has been active for about 30 years.

そういうオーガニックフェスとか

Things like organic festivals.

やってるんですよ

I'm doing it.

でもヒッピー系の人たちが多いから

But there are many hippie types of people.

ちょっと周りの人たちが

Some people around me...

ちょっと怖くて近寄れないんだよね

It's a little scary, so I can't get close.

みたいな話をしていて

I was talking about something like that.

でも私がやっている

But I am doing it.

オーガニックもあるし

There are organic options too.

私がやってるぐらいなんて

It's just about the level that I'm doing.

ヒッピー系じゃないじゃないですか

It's not really hippie-style, is it?

言ったら

If I said it.

だから人の人がやっている

That's why people are doing it.

マルシェだから

Because it's a market.

周りから別にね

It's nothing special from those around me.

怖がられはしない

I won't be feared.

なるほど

だからそういう

So that's why.

なんていうのかな

How should I put this?

体にいいこととか

Things that are good for the body.

例えば

オーガニックも

Organic too

有機栽培もそうだし

That's the case with organic farming as well.

ヒッピーナチュラル系とか

Hippie natural style, etc.

毒の入ってない

Not contaminated with poison.

こういうものは排除するとか

Things like this should be eliminated.

なんか多分あれでしょうね

I guess it's probably that, right?

これは絶対にいい

これは悪いっていう風に

This seems to be bad.

はっきりして

Be clear.

もう信者しか入ってこれない

みたいな状況が

出来上がっちゃうんですよね

別に

毎日例えば

菜食主義である必要ないけど

You don't have to be a vegetarian, but...

1週間に1日だけお肉食べなかったら

If I don't eat meat just one day a week.

世の中すごい影響があるんだよ

The world has a huge impact.

みたいな

Like.

そういう考え方にならないのかな

I wonder if they don't think that way.

って私もいつも思うんですよね

I always think the same way.

お肉あんま食べないって言うと

When you say you don't eat much meat...

菜食主義なのとか

Vegetarianism and so on.

別に

Nothing in particular.

なんとか主義じゃなくていいんですと

It's fine not to be bound by any particular ideology.

ただ

今日はお肉食べませんって

I won't eat meat today.

それだけの話みたいなね

It seems like that's all there is to it.

そういう考え方になっていくと

As you come to think that way,

すごいいいよね

That's amazing, isn't it?

もっと楽に

だからオーガニックイコール

なんかベジタリアンだと思われたりとか

I feel like people think I'm a vegetarian or something.

レストランとかしてた時に

When I was working at a restaurant.

私別に何でも食べるんですけれど

I eat just about anything, though.

お肉も食べるし

I also eat meat.

魚も食べる

I also eat fish.

卵も食べるし

I also eat eggs.

ただそんなたくさんは食べないね

I just don't eat that much.

っていうだけで

Just because of that.

でもね

But you know...

勝手に雑誌とかにオーナーは

The owner is arbitrarily in magazines and such.

あのなんか

Um, something like that...

ヴィーガンでとかって書かれて

It was written as being vegan.

誰がヴィーガンなんとか思って

Who thinks about vegan something?

書かれてほしいとか思って

"I want you to write it."

そう

Yes.

それはすごいよね

That's amazing, isn't it?

だからそこがやっぱりその

So that's why, after all...

イメージが一人歩きしている

The image is taking on a life of its own.

間違ったイメージが一人歩きしちゃってることの

The wrong image is spreading on its own.

結果ですよね

It's the result, isn't it?

そうですね

That's right.

今までこそね

Until now, you know.

だいぶそうでもないのかなっていう

I guess it's not really that much.

やんわりしてきたじゃないですか

It's getting gentle, isn't it?

オーガニック別に

Organic, separately.

普通の

Normal

人が取り入れてる

People are adopting it.

取り入れてる人もたくさんいるし

Many people are incorporating it.

昔のように

Like old times.

すごいこだわりの強い

Very particular.

ちょっと宗教的な

A bit religious.

感じとは

What is a feeling?

ちょっとずつね

Little by little, you know?

変わってきたかなっていう感じはしますけど

I feel like things have changed a bit.

あとあれかな

Oh, maybe that too.

カタカナ言葉が一人歩きしてるのかもね

It might be that Katakana words are becoming independent.

わけわからないのに勝手に

Even though it's incomprehensible, it's being done on its own.

なんかこう

Something like this...

だってオーガニックってもともとは

Well, organic originally means...

勇気ってことでしょ

It's about courage, right?

そうですよね

だから別にベジタリアンだとかなんとか

So it's not like I'm a vegetarian or anything.
