I hope to be able to talk about my true feelings as a female journalist.

As I mentioned a little earlier, I’m thinking we can proceed like this today.

In July 2020, with a group of volunteers,

This newspaper reporter radio...

始めました

I have started.

Actually, the Asahi Shimbun podcast...

Is there anyone who knows?

The Asahi Shimbun podcast is really popular.

It's a podcast from a newspaper.

Actually, it's faster than over there.

Actually, it's the very first time I've started.

It's just a bit difficult compared to larger companies.

It's a bit on the small side, but we're managing fine.

There is such a background to it.

Well, yes, but a newspaper reporter and radio...

There is a growing group of people who aren't reading the newspaper as much.

The newspaper has been selling poorly during that time.

How do you want to convey our news?

How should I convey this?

Discuss with the young members and employees.

About a year before starting as a newspaper reporter.

Actually, I've been trying various things through trial and error.

Trying to do a live stream on YouTube or something like that.

Whether audio is better or video is better, and verifying that.

I started in July 2020 after gaining such experiences.

There was a background to that, wasn't there?

About twice a month now.

Because it is being streamed on Tuesday.

If you'd like, please feel free to ask for it for free.

In that podcast

Interviews with our fellow reporters and others.

The behind-the-scenes of the article.

There were many styles that we would listen to.

In fact, reporter Nakamura is covering the situation of people living in poverty.

The reason I started putting in effort is...

I haven't really talked about it on the podcast.

I would like to ask about that today.

So, to be direct, why did you decide to get involved?

It's now on the monitor.

An article that seems to have been the trigger.

You left it here, but...

Since July 2017.

Joining the social department.

You were in charge of Arakawa Ward first, right?

The Arakawa Ward is called the Yamanote area.

A region referred to as a city of day laborers.

It's hanging.

The Yamanotani area refers to

It is one of Japan's three major gathering spots.

Many day laborers have gathered.

There is a dense concentration of simple lodgings.

During the period of high economic growth, many day laborers...

It was a city where I used to live.

It's already that time.

When I started my interviews,

The daily labor market is also shrinking.

The men too.

The men who worked in such places also...

Aging

People who are receiving public assistance.

It accounts for 90% of those living in simple accommodations.

It was that kind of area, huh?

A part of the true nature of the poverty issue can be seen.

It can be said that it is an area that tends to become apparent.

I wonder if I can say that.

At times like that

The interview was conducted.

The first person I interviewed was this sister.

She is in the Yuyama area.

For a long time.

Managing a place to belong or something like that.

After that, we practiced things like providing emergency meals.

The people she has been involved with so far.

We will keep a list of those who have passed away.

Something like that.

She is doing it in her own way.

That's what I said in the article.

It was a significant turning point, wasn't it?

Specifically,

病院で

At the hospital

A comrade has fallen.

Rushing to the hospital.

That companion was bleeding from the mouth.

Without being wiped.

Seeing the state of someone who has passed away.

Although we were supposed to be born with the same life...

It comes from the feeling of why the response is different.

"I want to record the dignity of each individual."

I heard that they left it on the roster.

To such a person, it's really amazing.

It's more like I was drawn to it.

Conducting interviews in such situations.

I want to hear the story.

I have a desire to hear more about the story.

Become very strong.

She is doing it.

At the workshop called "House of Stars."

You will start doing volunteer work, right?

実際に

Actually

rice ball

With hired uncles.

I call him "uncle" with affection.

Distributing to the men, or something like that.

I went around asking about the situation of those who are camping out.

activities like that

From a personal perspective.

始めて

Start.

Then, more and more acquaintances started to increase.

In the mountains and regions.

At home.

Men who have lived for a long time are the same.

それから

Then.

For example, I started a movie theater in this place.

Like a female photographer.

Mine

In Japanese mines and various places.

Working bit by bit.

It seems to have supported the Japanese economy.

With the workers' uncles.

While listening to the stories and so on

Really, myself too.

How should I put it?

I also had a sense of being healed.

Continued the interview activities.

This is really the very beginning.

With the issue of poverty

It's more like a meeting.

I became immersed in it.

The trigger of

It was the right time.

It's around 2017, isn't it?

The next slide too.

I have it.

I've done quite a bit of research in the mountains.

Meeting various people.

This article is

It's called "Japan Report."

It was being done at Arikata at that time.

Each region's

Event

A long report.

Really the first.

It's just one scene, but...

When I did that in the mountains

I go to the mountains every day.

Cooking rice with the uncles.

Like making things.

Is there really a child in that place?

Since I also have children, I will take my child with me.

I am watching the situation.

Uncles and aunts

I should be poor, yet...

They brought a lot of snacks.

In such a context

本当に

Really.

In the context of involvement, this place itself...

I am becoming very attracted.

It seems like they've been continuing the interviews.

あります

There is.

In the year 2017.

Just as it is after the interview.

Is it like being a volunteer?

I also started volunteering.

Reporters conduct interviews, of course.

Isn't it that you write?

Basically, once there.

It's more like it comes to an end.

Even if the relationship continues, it's still quite difficult.

Volunteering every time.

I'm not volunteering in various places.

That's right.

Did you go right away?

Pretty soon.

But slowly.

It doesn't feel like there's enough motivation to go every time.

たまに

Sometimes

If I have time, I will come by just a little.

始まって

Start.

It was in that form.

Forever

Keep going.

I'm volunteering again.

Really, back then too.

Rather than an interview

もっと

More

It feels like we're just on the verge of an interview.

What problems are there?

What is the actual situation?

With the feeling of wanting to know that.

I think it's a feeling like that.

At that time, Shinjuku was really...

The situation when Nakamura-san is attending.

Actually, you are covering it, right?

It used to be exactly that.

数百人

Several hundred people

When there were about 300 people.

I heard that was also a lot.

Even when there were about 800 people, it kept increasing.

It was there, wasn't it?

It's already August 12th, isn't it?

Just recently, it was reported to be 800 people.

Because we are counting the number of people.

The number of people coming here has really increased, hasn't it?

At first, really.

When it was around 80 people or 60 people.

Unbelievably.

Right now, a tremendous number of people are...

From among those who are not coming.

Come over.

For those who can come.

The atmosphere is really amazing.

It's more like it's becoming generalized.

様々です

It varies.

家族

Family

There are some who are raising children.

A mother and child.

Like coming together or something.

There are mothers who are holding their children.

At first glance.

You're not an ordinary person.

As anyone would say.

It seems like everyone is being careful.

人が

A person

Whether you have been coming or not.

すごく

amazing

It means "It's painful" or "It's苦しい."

状況が

The situation is

Due to the high cost of living.

Spreading out.

I feel that way.

"Just an increase in reports."

It has become easier to come.

I think there is a possibility.

I think that's a really good thing.

People who need it this way

The situation of relying on support is...

I think it's a good thing, but...

On the other hand, this is still...

It's about being done by a private organization.

The fact that there are actually areas that are lacking.

I think it's also a reversal.

Right under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office.

I’m in charge of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government starting this month.

That's right.

There were times when we even drew regulation lines, right?

That's right.

People like this are increasing.

At first, people are

It wasn't under the metropolitan government office, was it?

A queue forms in front of the metropolitan government building.

It was about that number of people, you see.

It has become too much to contain.

Metropolitan Government Office

I mean, in front of the entrance.

The number of people has started to increase up to space.

When I went there

Tokyo side has a cone.

I had something like that placed there, you know.

A triangular cone like the ones placed at construction sites.

I placed a pole to block the entrance.

An incident like that.

時があって

When the time comes.

It's because it's the first time.

It can be perceived as exclusion, can't it?

Those who have come.

Seeking support.

I have been seeking support from private organizations.

Even if it's not the Tokyo Metropolitan Government,

We are not accepted here.

You must not go here.

Some people might think that as well.

I think it was conveying such a message.

I thought it was a really big issue, so I conducted an interview.

Just this, Nakamura-san.

People who have difficulty speaking up.

Someone who is difficult to bring out.

For those whose voices cannot be heard.

I've been conducting interviews for a long time.

As expected, it's amazing.

I didn't want to talk about that.

People who may not be able to speak.

Listening to voices is really difficult.

It takes time.

As a fellow journalist

I think it's difficult based on my own experience as well.

Among them, which interviews were particularly memorable?

Do you have an article?

Well, this time a bit...

I had them turn it into a slide.

これかな

Is this it?

That's right.

What stands out particularly is

In an interview with a man.

"Listening to each person individually."

I was conducting an interview.

At the time of the distribution of celebratory gifts.

Talk to me.

You looked really unwell.

Walking while dragging my feet.

The doctor is also coming as a volunteer.

You should see a doctor.

Tell me.

The doctor who looked at me too

Please go to the hospital right away.

In a situation like that.

I'm really worried.

I was listening to your home.

I'll go to your house.

I had mentioned it in advance, but...

So you went all the way to their house, huh?

Then.

I used to live in Suginami Ward.

In a house where the gas, water, and electricity have all been shut off.

While living

Water is in the park.

Put it in a net bottle.

Fill the bath.

While living

First, you turn the faucet.

At that time, I...

I thought I had to wash my hands during the corona times.

I will wash my hands, okay?

Casually

When I turned on the faucet

The water didn't come out, did it?

What? I thought it wouldn't come out.

えっ

Huh?

In that moment, you kind of realize.

Oh, the water isn't coming out. I wonder if the water supply is stopped.

Now that I think about it, the electricity is off.

What do you think you're going to do?

Then.

He is a man in his 70s.

bottle of water

Thank you for passing it to me.

They tell me to wash it with this.

In such a situation

The fact that you are living.

How should I put it?

At the man's home.

体感して

Experience it.

I thought it was very urgent.

I'm not feeling well.

Is the food something you received from the food distribution?

Living on bread crusts.

It was someone who seemed to be doing it.

Welfare benefits.

It's someone in a necessary situation.

I think it's amazing.

I asked if you are not receiving welfare.

I absolutely won't accept it.

So it's being shown off from the beginning, huh?

That's really something.

At first, it was quite difficult.

There is something that I can't bring myself to say.

I understand, but...

While talking in parallel lines without understanding anything.

I'm glad you finally talked to me.

There is money that has not been repaid for the loan.

To the Social Welfare Council

Once borrowed

I haven't been able to return that.

You brought up what you wanted to say, didn't you?

それはその

That's that.

It's about the livelihood welfare fund.

I think that...

People in need.

For support in accompanying running.

というか

I mean, or rather.

I'll lend you money, but...

So that it leads to independence.

While providing support alongside.

次に

Next

Connecting it to the future.

Loan created for the purpose.

決してその

Never that

It is difficult to be in distress due to loans.

"Not to become"

That has become a trigger for not being able to consult.

It should not be allowed for such things to happen.

of that nature

With the loan.

Regarding the occurrence of such situations.

I was really shocked after all.

男性に

To a man.

That is at the administrative office.

It is something that can be resolved if explained properly.

Let's talk about that.

男性も

Men too.

Of my own will.

"I want to experience receiving welfare."

There was something you mentioned.

This experience at that time was amazing.

It is something very big within me.

It became that way, didn't it?

Why does he...

Did it not lead to support?

What should I do?

自分は

I am.

If I continue like this

I wonder if I'm dying.

"I've lived every day in darkness."

You mentioned it, but...

I wonder if it's possible to think like that.

What I thought was that...

Social worker.

I thought I wanted to obtain a qualification.

That was one of the triggers.

I think about it now as I look back.

When I listen to Mr. Nakamura's story,

本当に

Really.

I think it's amazing.

Starting with volunteering.

取材して

Conduct an interview.

さらに

Furthermore

What is the qualification of a social worker?

It’s hard to get, isn’t it?

The effort up to that point.

It's amazing that you can dedicate your time.

I think frankly.

I will study a little bit about social work.

すごく

Very much.

It's more like I've learned something.

I think it really connects with the work of a journalist.

I was thinking.

What kind of place is it?

It's a job that involves listening to stories, right?

What about newspaper reporters?

That support too.

The first thing is quite important.

In terms of listening to the conversation...

In what way?

Whether or not to confront people.

It's also about what kind of writing we will do.

I study and such.

That's amazing.

Even newspaper reporters have experienced this once.

When you try to learn...

I wonder if it will be useful in my interviews.

There were times when I thought that.

That said.

I think it's quite difficult, but...

By the way

Reporter Nakamura's

Professor Shinjuku, for example.

Everyone just now

I think there were people who were reading it.

There are people around me who are struggling like this.

There are a lot of them, aren't there?

In your articles about the reality.

I was able to know.

This way, even social issues.

Because I was interested.

Personally, I'm interested in doing some volunteer work in the future.

I want to try doing it myself.

If I were to take on such a role

I definitely want to try doing something.

すごい

Amazing.

Mr. Okuno as well.

LGBTQとか

LGBTQ and so on.

Regarding children's issues, etc.

I've been conducting interviews for a very long time.

People in a weak position.

The opportunity to conduct interviews.

There are really a lot, aren't there?

Switch it now.

It's about Mr. Nakamura's story and my story.
