私は大学院では星や銀河について研究したいと思っています

I want to study stars and galaxies in graduate school.

そこで東大の理学系研究科天文学専攻を来年受験しようと考えております

I am considering taking the entrance exam for the Astronomy Department of the Graduate School of Science at the University of Tokyo next year.

天文学専攻を受ける前に準備したことなどはどのようなことがありますか

What preparations did you make before applying for the astronomy major?

理学系研究科の天文学専攻の大学院生

Graduate student in the Astronomy Department of the Graduate School of Science.

なんですよ

youtube の動画上とかでは天文学を研究できる専攻にいるんですみたいな言い方してるんですけど

It seems like I'm saying that I'm in a major where I can study astronomy in videos on YouTube.

天文学専攻なんです

まず1個目は募集要項をしっかり読むってことですね

First of all, the first thing is to carefully read the recruitment guidelines.

これは読みましょうって感じなんですけど

でこの3つが実際私がやったことなんですけど

4、5が私今思えばやっとけばよかったなってことで

4つ目が他の専攻っていうのをもっと調べればよかったなって思ってます

I wish I had looked into other majors more.

僕天文学専攻に結構絞って探していたんですけど

I was narrowing down my search quite a bit to astronomy.

今思えば他の部署

他の研究家とか専攻とかでも

東大って天文学とか宇宙できるんですよ

At Tokyo University, you can study astronomy and space.

だから調べる段階では

So at the stage of investigation,

そっちまで目線広げておいてもよかったなとは思ってます

I think it would have been good to broaden my perspective to that extent.

もちろん今の状況に何か不満があるわけでは全くないので

大体の大学院ってそうなるんじゃないかなと思うんですけど

どっちにしても大学院ってそうなるんじゃないかなと思うんですけど

I think that, either way, that's how it is in graduate school.

どっちにしても希望する研究室とか

Whichever way, I'm hoping for a specific laboratory or research group.

指導教員の名前っていうのを書く必要があるんですよね

I need to write the name of the supervising teacher, right?

それを実際どういうふうに選んだのかっていうお話をしたいんですけど

どうしても東大の天文学専攻受かりたいなって思ってたんですよ

I really wanted to pass the astronomy department at the University of Tokyo.

それは普通に受かりたいっていうふうに思ってたので

I just thought that I wanted to pass normally.

なるべく戦略的に行きたいなって思ってたんですよ

I was thinking that I want to go as strategically as possible.

って思ってたんですよね

I was thinking that, you know.

学部の頃は東大ではなくて

In my undergraduate days, it wasn't at the University of Tokyo.

違う大学に行ってから

After going to a different university.

大学院から東大に行ったっていう感じなんですよ

It feels like I went to the University of Tokyo from graduate school.

なのでその中で

So among those.

やっぱり大学院って同じ大学に進んだ方が

After all, it's better to go to graduate school at the same university.

なんとなくイメージはやっぱりつきやすいんですよね

Somehow, the image is still easy to come up with.

環境ほとんど変わらないし

The environment hardly changes.

入学の時に

At the time of enrollment.

大学院の試験とかも結構定期テストに近かったりする

Graduate school exams are often quite similar to regular tests.

形式が近かったりするので

Because the formats are similar.

同じ大学の方が入りやすさは多分高いんですよ

The ease of getting in is probably higher for those from the same university.

ただそんな中で

どうしても東大の天文学専攻に入りたいなって思ってたんですけど

だからそこで研究室とか指導教員とかも

慎重に選びたいなと思っていて

私の頃はなんですけど

Back in my day...

大学院の試験で指導教員を選んだ時に

When I chose my advisor for the graduate school exam.

一人の大学院の試験を選んだ時に

When I chose to take the exam for one graduate school

一人の指導教員に対して

To one advisor.

学生一人しか合格しませんっていう仕組みなんですよ

It's a system where only one student is allowed to pass.

少なくとも東大の天文学専攻はなんですけど

At least, it's about the astronomy department at the University of Tokyo.

そうすると

In that case,

要するに第2位になったら受からない

In short, if you come in second place, you won't pass.

実際は他の指導教員

In reality, it's another supervising teacher.

研究室になるっていうことなんですけど

It's about becoming a laboratory.

1位になる必要があるんですよ

I need to be number one.

入試の中で

In the entrance examination.

その入試受けた人の中で

Among those who took the entrance exam.

東大の天文学専攻って

What about the astronomy program at the University of Tokyo?

学部学科もありまして

理学部天文学科っていうところがあるんですよ

で天文学科は大体

ざっくり言うと

To put it simply,

天文学科の学部生は10人くらい

There are about 10 undergraduate students in the astronomy department.

で大学院になると

When you enter graduate school...

天文学専攻って20人くらいに増えるんですよね

The astronomy major has around 20 students, right?

なので倍になったりするんですけど

So it can double.

で大体学部生は

So generally, undergraduate students are...

ほぼほぼ全員大学院を受験してるんですよ

Almost everyone is taking entrance exams for graduate school.

で普通に行くと同じ研究室で受験するじゃないですか

If you go normally, you'll take the exam in the same laboratory, right?

でそうすると

やっぱり学部生の時に

After all, when I was an undergraduate student...

その研究室にいる人の方が

The person in that research lab is more...

多分うっかりやすいというか

Maybe it's easy to accidentally do it.

その同じ大学だと大学院に入りやすいっていう意味で

It means that it's easier to enter graduate school at the same university.

例えばA研究室というところに

For example, at a place called Research Laboratory A.

学部生がいたとして

Assuming there were undergraduate students.

もし僕も

学部生がいたとして

Assuming there is an undergraduate student.

もし僕もそのA研究室にいる人がいたとして

If there were someone in that A research lab who was also me.

研究室を受験したいっていう風に思ったとすると

If you are thinking that you want to apply to the laboratory.

合格するためには

そのもともといた学部生よりも

入試で高い点を取らないといけないわけじゃないですか

You have to get a high score on the entrance exam, right?

それって正直ちょっと不利だなって思って

そこでやられてるかとか

結構イメージつきにくいなとは思うんですよ
