It's not such a big deal, though.

The seminar teacher emphasized the retention of that knowledge.

More than that.

Something like that, you know.

What you mentioned was

It's been stuck in my mind, you know.

I feel like I might read it regularly for some reason.

You have that kind of awareness, don't you?

So there's not much resistance.

The child hasn't even picked it up yet.

I want to go in the future.

This title is

Why is doing bad things enjoyable?

Such a title

This is from the Chikuma Primi New Series.

Chikuma Primal New Book, you know.

I wonder if all of them are written for middle and high school students.

It's incredibly easy to read, anyway.

The author is Hiroshi Toya.

Such parts of us that are not so great.

From those flawed parts of us

Thinking about good and evil

It's a book with that kind of concept.

"Do bad things, for example."

Don't do it.

It's not that kind of book.

I wonder what bad things are.

Humans are like this, you know?

While thinking about such things

Let's think about a better way to live.

This book is somewhat academic, so to speak.

Ethics

So, that being said.

Speaking of ethics, you know...

I had an ethics class in high school.

I also remember what kind of teacher you were.

But the classes...

Someone is an advocate of a certain ideology.

The teacher kept reading the textbook without stopping.

I honestly thought it was just not interesting at all.

This book is...

A philosopher who appears in such ethics.

Homepage, etc.

The thoughts of those who said it's a booster count.

It's exquisite.

It is being explained with easy-to-understand examples.

So it's not only easy to read, but also...

It makes me feel a little closer to philosophers.

There are such points.

You see, originally I...

It's not that I don't like philosophy that much.

The meaning of various things, you know.

You're really thinking hard, aren't you?

In that sense.

Rather, I think deeply about it.

It's not that I don't want to think about it, you know.

I tend to be a bit lazy.

I don't want to get too deep into the swamp.

I see there were such things.

The only philosophy book I have completely read is

Professor Shelley Kagan of Yale University

What is death?

It's something that has been turned into a book from university lectures.

I've read this, you know.

It's quite a difficult task, you could say.

It's not like I read it easily.

It didn't exist, though.

But this new book is, you know...

Without resistance

I was able to read through it quickly.

The main content is

I would really like you to read the book.

A part that left quite an impression on me.

I would like to talk about several things.

First of all, let's talk about review.

Reviewing is like a retaliation review, isn't it?

This thing called review

Not only emotions like anger and pain.

It means that there is also a sweet aspect.

It feels like pleasure is also something to be enjoyed.

Things like that, you know.

What you pointed out was...

It left a bit of an impression, didn't it?

This is an ancient Greek philosopher.

Aristotle appears, doesn't he?

Reviewing is anger.

But on the other hand, desires are fulfilled.

"Or it seems like it will be fulfilled."

This is what leads to pleasure.

The desire being referred to here is

This is how you can review.

I expect to establish the three stages.

So this is what it means to experience pleasure.

In the book, it’s The Brothers Karamazov.

Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov.

It was mentioned as an example.

I'm reading this book by chance.

At the same time, I opened a manga on LINE.

At that time, I read three manga as part of the campaign.

Choose and get points when you read, something like that.

There is such a plan, you know.

I thought I'd give it a read.

You randomly chose and read three of them, didn’t you?

Then at that time.

All three were about reviewing.

Well, the times and settings are various, but...

It was all just about reviewing, you know.

When I realized it was about reviewing.

You thought it was Aristotle, huh?

Ah, amazing, it's like I have a mix of various emotions.

"Reviewing can also be a theme in manga entertainment."

It's easy to move people's hearts.

So that's how it's being used as a theme, huh?

Thinking about that.

"I strangely felt convinced."

There was such a discovery.

And then...

It seems like there's a detailed discussion about selfishness as well.

It's selfish and self-centered, isn't it?

You know, from a Japanese person's perspective...

To foreigners with strong opinions.

It means being a bit pushed or pressured.

Things I've experienced.

I think there are some people who feel that way.

That looks to a Japanese person as well.

You could say it's a bit selfish.

In my heart.

I feel like there's a strong assertion being made.

I guess you could say that.

"But Japan doesn't assert itself."

I want you to notice.

That's the kind of communication we have, right?

But when you're communicating like that...

Holding onto opinions within oneself.

While doing that, you know...

My true opinions and feelings are

I feel like I'm starting to not understand.

And further accumulate stress.

Well, you see, about that...

I thought about this when I was talking about being self-centered.

So from a Japanese person's perspective.

It seems like self-centered.

People who communicate like that...

Such as oneself.

My feelings.

Aren't you protecting it?

I think so.

You did things like that, too.

I can't help but think about others and what's going on around me.

What should I do, what should I do?

I sometimes become indecisive.

Thinking about those things, like considering the surroundings...

I think it's also one of the good qualities of Japanese people.

But what do I want to do more?

It's about how I think.

You need to cherish that more in your daily life.

It's something that shouldn't be done, right?

You were made to think that, weren't you?

Really, things like this...

If you don't consciously pay attention to it on a regular basis,

It gradually becomes impossible to do.

Suddenly, my feelings.

It ends up being that I don't know in the moment.

Something like that.

I thought about it while reading a book.

In a similar flow, then.

It's about reading the atmosphere.

The 20th-century German philosopher Heidegger comes up, you know.

There, everyone lives by reading the air.

At that time, I will become an interchangeable existence.

You can replace and exchange it.

It becomes that kind of existence.

There are some points you are pointing out, aren't there?

Living in a way that is true to oneself is one's true nature.

This kanji originally has a difference.

The original nature of original nature.

Living in a way that is true to oneself is called authenticity.

If we define the state of being otherwise as inauthenticity.

People live under social pressure in the world.

A member of everyone.

As someone who is not anyone in particular.

Always in a state of inauthenticity.

In a state that is not original.

Both strong-willed people and unique individuals.

It means that it is certainly inauthentic in the eyes of society.

So, that's not really the case, then.

It ends up becoming an interchangeable existence that lacks authenticity.

But for example, if you were told that you have a year to live...

The way of living that reads the air will change a little.

Rather than worrying about what the world thinks of me,

What I want to do.

I thought you would do it.

There are such observations in the book.

People will die someday.

It's just a difference of whether it's one year or several decades.

When you become aware of the limited nature of your own life...

You can regain your true self.

Japanese people tend to be very sensitive to the atmosphere.

It's precisely when you don't read the air.

You can regain your true self.

I am a priceless child.

It's an individual child; I can recall that it's a child.

That part where there was such a story was impressive too.

Then there's the story about the pressure to conform to rules.

Regardless of the correctness of the rules themselves.

In the part about the pressure to conform because everyone else is following along.

I was reading something and...

Escalator's

You remembered the issue of one row or two rows, didn’t you?

During Obon, I took the Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Nagoya Station.

It's under the place where you go up to the Shinkansen platform.

The station staff is there, raising their voice.

"They keep saying to proceed in two lines, don't they?"

But after all, please open the right side.

About 80 to 90 percent of the people are going up.

Well, I guess I was with my child.

I got on the right side, you know.

In that situation, I wonder if that was a good thing.

I was told to take the second row, so I got on.

It seems like everyone isn't getting on.

I get a little fidgety sometimes.

So after that, when I transferred on the Nagoya subway...

That escalator going up, you know.

Both rows were packed tightly.

Here, the station staff doesn't particularly say anything to us.

It's not like I'm monitoring that specifically.

Everyone was naturally climbing up in two lines.

I think in the past, Nagoya also had vehicles only on the left side.

Now, stopping and getting on from both sides has been thoroughly implemented.

はい

Yes

I hear that there were various awareness activities leading up to that point.

But the cultural rules had changed drastically.

Well, it's definitely safer to have two rows.

Sometimes there are times when a ridiculous line forms only on the left side, just to board in a single line, right?

The right side is already empty.

But since I have baggage, I guess I'll have to line up on the left side after all.

If you accidentally go to the right side.

If you move forward...

Any kind of luggage.

Even if it's heavy, even if there are children.

Anyway, we have to walk up through the air and such.

It exists, doesn't it?

Before examining the correctness of the rule itself.

The right side should be kept clear for people in a hurry, right?

The atmosphere in which everyone follows along.

This is meant for people who are in a real hurry.

You can just use the stairs.

There is that kind of reasoning, but...

In any case, the atmosphere is the most important thing, isn't it?

And basically, there I am, someone who will comply with that.

"Reading the air means..."

It also means that one does not know whether something is correct or not.

There's actually a story like that in a book, you know.

That's really terrifying.

For example, bullying.

You will unknowingly become complicit in violence.

This is about the depth of experience, isn't it?

Whether it's bullying or something else.

Even if it's not exactly bullying, you know?

There are various levels and kinds, after all.

Read the atmosphere.

In many cases, this means staying silent.

I think so, but...

The act of reading the atmosphere has become...

Whether my attitude was correct or not.

I feel hazy.

That kind of experience.

Don't you all have scenes that come to mind as well?

Well, it's something that happened to me after I became an adult too.

Right now, there's a scene that's coming to mind.

There's a scene that comes to mind.

There is a scene that comes to mind.

It's about where to place your axis when taking action.

It seems that not saying anything is the best strategy.

Like being smart.

You can sometimes feel that kind of atmosphere, can't you?

I ended up breaking it.

Ah, I wonder if this was the right choice.

See you later.

Sometimes that can still feel unclear or confusing.

There are times when you still feel confused.

So that's how it is.

Regarding the new book.

Actually, there are a few other things I'd like to introduce.

This time it's just about this one book.

I also thought that being too focused on just books isn't ideal.

I hope to find another opportunity to talk again.

I've been particularly like that lately.

You feel the importance of the humanities, which are often referred to as liberal arts.

Well, you feel the importance of the humanities, which are often referred to as liberal arts.

There are also talks about how separating fields like science and engineering is already outdated.

Putting that aside for a moment, to continue the conversation...

To be honest, I also have a liberal arts major in college.

I wonder if it's the science and engineering fields that are truly helpful to society.

I knew there was something faintly there, after all.

Well, I guess the sciences are more...

From cases where usefulness is visible.

I get the feeling that there might be a lot, you know.
