JAPANESE SAMPLE

Hello everyone, this is Kara. This is Massa. We are currently in Malaysia.

I live here. Thank you.

What? Not yet. Here we go, not yet.

Alright, not yet. Today's theme is

The unpleasant aspects of Japanese people living abroad.

There you go. You said it.

Unpleasant aspects. This is something, isn't it? It's definitely waiting to blow up.

No waiting for the firestorm. I'll say it straight out.

It's that kind of episode.

Well, it's kind of a joke, but...

It's been about two years since we started living overseas.

What I feel after living abroad is

Living abroad, I feel like the local people in that area are like this.

There are many people like this, and it feels like there is this kind of culture.

Of course, there are times like that as well.

As we have mentioned in our previous broadcasts,

That kind of thing happens, right? Yeah.

そう。

That's right.

You say that you haven't been able to make friends for a long time.

Of course, I also want to say something like this.

It's a person who seems to be saying "ukya ukya ukya ukya."

I understand that it's only natural that it can't be done.

はい。

Yes.

I understand, but...

We have noticed this.

As a fellow Japanese person, just a little bit...

Isn't that kind of uncool?

That's right. It's not uncool.

Yeah. Isn't it better to stop that a little?

So there are a few things like that.

Let's talk about that.

うん。

Yeah.

Here we go.

Which one should I say first?

Well, um, then let's have Kara go first. They have a bad look on their face.

Huh? Hmm, well, that's true. But for now...

This is the opinion of both of us, after all.

We talked together, didn’t we?

That's really scary.

What is this, am I getting involved? Right now. What?

Hey, the other day we talked together, right?

Ah, you spoke.

So, let's just consider it as both of our opinions.

Yes, I understand.

Yes, it’s like we’ve come from Japan to overseas.

Well, this is more like we came out on our own will, you know.

うん。

Yeah.

Some of the people who came from abroad have various kinds of confidence.

There are people who come to foreign countries for various reasons, so it's hard to generalize.

That's exactly right, some people came just because they were instructed by the company.

There are people who have come here as expatriates, and I think there are also those who came of their own accord.

At times like that, what we're a bit concerned about is that, well, Japan can feel restrictive.

Japan isn't interesting, they're saying Japan is done for.

ね?

Right?

They say it's a dead end, and when you come abroad, you realize that you don't experience things like this in Japan.

Well, things like saying "Go for it" and thinking "You wouldn't do that in Japan," you know?

There are many things that are taken for granted in foreign countries, but are considered taboo in Japan; however, people overseas tend to do those things quite casually.

うん。

Yeah.

There are times like that, but I say to you, as a Japanese person, you wouldn't do that in Japan, yet the moment you live abroad, you start doing it, right?

In the end, if it’s Japan, it’s too constricting. If it’s overseas, it’s like that, and in the end, you just get influenced, right?

You're going to do it that way, huh?

This is the opinion of both people.

うん。

Yeah.

It's their opinion right now.

Well, that's true.

That kind of thing is so outdated, right?

そう。

That's right.

話は。

Let's talk.

That's right. It's something that's generally talked about, isn't it?

うん。

Yeah.

For example, people who have been to America or, for that matter, Europe, tend to become stronger in a certain sense.

うん。

Yeah.

Well, there are those kinds of things, and it's not just on that level; there's something a bit more, for example, like maybe doing something like using marijuana.

Ah, yes.

Yes, yes, yes.

It is recognized as a law there, but it's also technically not allowed for Japanese people to engage in it while traveling abroad.

Yeah. That's right.

Right. There are people who say it's okay to do it because it's a recognized place, but it's not allowed.

Yeah. But I think those who do that just because it's accepted here are quite lame.

That's right.

Yes. Well, how should I put it? The level is quite high until the timer, but then walking, smoking, and so on.

Yeah. That's right.

There are a lot of things like that.

That's right. So what I thought in Vietnam was exactly that.

うん。

Yeah.

Well, in Japan, it's not like you wouldn't do it. Walking, smoking, you know.

In Japan, we wouldn't do that.

Basically, well, there are people who will do it.

うん。

Yeah.

Or something like smoking outside.

うん。

Yeah.

Things like soil smoking are basically not allowed.

There's really none of that where you just smoke whenever you want, even if there are people around.

Yeah. Just at the designated place, for now.

うん。

Yeah.

It's because I'm doing it according to Japan, as it is in Japan.

うん。

Yeah.

Well, of course those people do the same in Japan.

うん。

Yeah.

That's right.

うん。

Yeah.

As soon as those people arrived in Vietnam, they started smoking everywhere.

うん。

Yeah.

It's the same when walking, too.

うん。

Yeah.

It's called "dassu."

That's lame.

Well, you see, in the country, it's just that it's not officially recognized or anything, but there probably aren't any regulations in place yet.

Yes. It's just that the regulations are lax. Yes.

But the original reason for banning that kind of thing was something like, it can harm other people's health, such as causing abdominal inflammation.

うん。

Yeah.

Well, if you're walking and smoking, it's a bit dangerous if kids accidentally come into contact with it, right?

うん。

Yeah.

Well, that's the reason.

うん。

Yeah.

It doesn't really change even if the country changes.

That's right.

If that's the case.

Go, go.

So just do it, I mean.

Yeah. That's right.

Well, those people should understand the reason, right?

そう。

That's right.

You should know the background of why it went wrong, since you’re in Japan.

うん。

Yeah.

"I'm wondering if they will really do it since the country has changed."

That's right. Moreover, the reason is that everyone is doing it.

Yeah. It's because it's not regulated.

They do it because it's common in high school, but that's just lame, right? Everyone can believe that.

Yeah, that's pretty tacky.

No, it's just that the mindset is lame.

うん。

Yeah.

But it's decided in Japan, so I probably won't do it at that time, but still.

It's okay here.

The mindset of thinking "It's fine here, so I'll do it" is lame.

うん。

Yeah.

I see. That's why there are quite a few of those things, and especially when living in Southeast Asia like Vietnam and Malaysia, how should I put it, well, in Vietnam especially, there are places like nightlife districts and such.

That's right.

こう。

Like this.

うん。

Yeah.

But there are places where you can drink with girls and maybe get a little flirty, right?

うん。

Yeah.

So, there are things like that that you can do at quite an affordable price, right?

Well, it's cheap.

To be honest, as a woman, I have various thoughts about this, but the other side is really aggressive about it, especially when it comes to things like soliciting customers.

That's right.

Because of that, how should I put it, personally, it makes me feel indescribable, but I think it's precisely because the girls are showing that kind of, how should I say, attitude, that in Japan, there are many places where you can tell that they think, "There's no way you're going to get any attention from the girls if you act that way, even if you go to a nightclub."

うん。

Yeah.

No, there are a lot of them.

You know, when I see a really arrogant man, I just think, what is this guy?

Yeah, there are quite a few. It's normal, like in restaurants, how people talk to the staff, you know, the way they address the employees.

そう。

That's right.

It's the king's army, right?

Yes, I often see Japanese people in Vietnam.

そう。

That's right.

So I feel like you don't see that ratio in Japan.

Yeah, I won't watch it.

I won't look.

Yeah. I mean, of course, there are creepy old men in Japan too, and there are just creepy people in general, so I apologize to the old men, not only the men.

It's basically because he's an uncle.

No, there are a lot of crazy ladies too. I'm sorry about that.

Crazy aunt.

There are also crazy old ladies, and there are those who are wild regardless of age, so I'm sorry, uncle.

I'm really sorry for targeting you, uncle.

But really, you know?

It's about the attitude towards shop staff and such.

I passed by near the night shop a little while ago.

I mentioned it by seeing as well.

Well, before that...

That's exactly a restaurant or something.

Even when you come to shop at the store.

I really feel like something.

The people of the era when "the customer is God."

There are still a lot of people who are doing it.

That's why, you know.

When I was younger

Trying to recreate Japan in Vietnam.

That's an uncle's story.

It's definitely about the uncle's story.

But it's that kind of feeling, isn't it?

Yeah, but I really do feel that way.

So, what should I say?

I'm kind of more wealthy.

Like being smart and outstanding.

Really, now?

With my head held high.

I wonder what to say.

I was watching and thought, "Please stop, it's embarrassing."

I can't help but think that way.

Well, in Vietnam and such, especially...

It's the same in Malaysia and other places.

The kids who work are often really young.

No matter how you look at it, that's definitely a teenager.

Especially towards girls.

You're getting old, aren't you?

The old man is really acting so important.

I can't forgive you.

It's like, "Who the hell are you?"

What is that sense of satisfaction?

What's wrong?

What happened?

Because I don't want to experience that feeling.

I didn't want to go to that area.

I see.

I want to learn about scenes like that.

I don't really want to go there, to be honest.

That's surprising!

Well, we don't really...

I don't want to belong to that kind of community.

To be honest, that's what I think.

"Like those kinds of people."

I don't have the confidence to do it well.

Because I dislike that sort of thing.

On the contrary, we are here.

Well, I wonder what it is if there is something, you know?

I guess it's probably the group that makes that happen.

When those kinds of people become Japanese.

I wonder if everyone will end up on that side.

That's not it.

That's why I definitely came abroad.

It seems like I'm only with Japanese people.

This group is taking action.

It's pretty dangerous, isn't it?

I think it's a little risky.

Well, that's true.

We don't have any friends.

I don't have to act with anyone, you know.

I don't have anyone to act with.

Whether in Japan or abroad

Changing one's attitude towards others means...

I don't think so, and I want to do that.

It's not like when talking about teenagers and people in their twenties in Japan.

When talking about teenagers and people in their twenties abroad...

I want to be someone who has no differences.

Well, that's true.

Of course, I can speak Japanese.

Because in my case, my skills are lacking overseas.

Including English and so on.

That's why, in a way, I become more humble because I can't say it.

I'm really sorry.

I'm sorry for making it hard to understand, but...

When you actually live abroad, it feels like...

我々の

Pioneer? Our

I've been here all along.

If it were Malaysia, I would have lived in Malaysia.

There are Japanese people.

If it were Vietnam, there would be Japanese people living in Vietnam.

The impression of Japanese people that locals have met.

That was our first impression.

I think the impression during a first meeting sets the tone.

I think things will change.

It's kind of endearing in a way.

It's precisely because there are many kind people.

We also to those people.

I don't want to be seen as someone who thinks Japanese people are unpleasant.

I want to make a good impression.

I want you to think of me as a safe person.

Because I'm feeling that way.

I already want to thank the pioneers.

So that's why I've come to a foreign country even more.

They were taking a kingly attitude.

When I see Japanese people with some kind of awkwardly unfashionable structure,

It makes you go "Ueeeee!"

In the end, isn't that kind of thing only happening within Asia?

I wonder how it is.

I think so too.

An area that feels like there are real Japanese people.

特定の

specific

It seems like I only do that when I'm meeting Japanese people.

I think that's how it is.

Oh really---

There are still some unpleasant scenes like that in Arensia.

I have never encountered it.

Speaking of which

Well, there aren't really many places like entertainment districts to begin with.

Basically, there's Islam.

I guess it's the same with alcohol.

It's not something that's found everywhere.

That's right, isn't it?

We haven't been outside more than that in Vietnam.

Ah, well, that's true.

At night, the more popular person isn't going out.

Yeah, that's right.

Well, there's also the possibility that I won't watch it.

Well, I especially felt that during my time in Vietnam.

あれは

That is.

Oh! That was surprising!

Oh! I was surprised.

Well, even if you come here...

After all, things like cigarettes...

うん

Yeah.

If we’re talking about manners and rules like that,

Well, let's hide it.

いますね

There is/are (someone/something) here.

Ah, really?

Muahaha!

They casually smoke that cigarette too.

There are people who do things that aren't commonly done in Japan, right?

Well, well, well, there are various things happening, but I won’t say anything.

I see. Since I'm in Malaysia now, I don't really speak ill of Japanese people who are in Malaysia.

Well, there are some things we're doing that we don't do in Japan.

Hmm, I wonder what you'd call it.

The Japanese side had gone abroad.

This is brave.

"I'm living abroad and saying things like this..."

I only have dollars right now, you know what I mean?

That's crazy, I didn't know that.

Oh, I see, me.

There are times when people say things like "I don't have yen, I only have dollars."

There are people like that, right? It's quite an insider joke.

Even though I’m trying to appeal that I’m a global person living overseas.

It's not just the good things; even the bad things, when you go abroad, it's like you're being tamed just as you were told, isn't it?

うん

Yeah.

In the end, it's like you're pretending to be free just because you say, "I'm this kind of person."

It's like you're completely immersed in something really bad, and it's clear that you're being influenced by it, right?

I think that tackiness should be acknowledged.

Yeah, I'm sorry about that, but...

Well, of course, for someone like that, I can understand they wouldn't want to be told by a person who goes "whee!" like this.

No, it's okay. The costume is fine. The costume is good, isn't it? The costume is good.

I think there are sporadic instances of that, right?

No, but this is a bit overseas.

Well, you can't help but be concerned to some extent, right?

I think this is something that many people can relate to.

I thought so, I really believe it's true.

I think there are definitely regional differences, right?

I think what we're doing and, well, how should I put it, really depends on the people involved in the end.

I also think that, and honestly, I...

I didn't want to go out, but I ended up coming overseas even though I didn't want to leave Japan.

Well, inevitably.

People who have to join the Japanese community.

It's okay, speaking of that, there are lots of uncles I really love overseas too.

Yeah, something like that.

Yes, among the Japanese people we actually encountered overseas, there were those who, as fellow Japanese,

It's a bit presumptuous to say I'm proud, but I do feel like there are a lot of people I think are amazing, and I truly admire their strength.

Hey, some people seem to be carving out their own lives, right?

I wonder what you would call it, like I'm fighting so hard in this foreign land.

There are a lot of cool people, so don't miss anyone. When you look closely, it's amazing that they're in different places abroad.

There are a lot of uncool people, so take a good look at them.

I wanted to talk about that, right? Well, I guess that's true.

まあ

Well...

This is the kind of story it is. I'm sorry, but in the end, it turned into a bit of badmouthing.

I'm really sorry for those who are feeling a bit unwell. It's truly a pointless fight, isn't it?

The shut-in is really just talking nonsense and spreading bad rumors about a few Japanese people living abroad.

Yeah, we're shut-ins and can't even make friends, right? It's because we're so twisted that we can't make friends, though.

I'm sorry for bringing this up, but...

Just that, I understand this.

I have the feeling that I want to be friends with someone who says that.

いればね

If you are here.

I hope you're here; I feel happy thinking about you being here, so I'm taking this.

That's right, yes.

Isn't that so? No? That's right.

Yeah, I guess that's how it is.

Because there is a nuance that is hard to convey.

I would be happy if there is someone who understands this.

There are still things we can't say, things we haven't said yet. Please read between the lines.

I was hoping to find someone who would understand.
