本日はゆか先生に交渉学との出会いから色々お聞きしたいと思うんですけれども

Today, I would like to ask Teacher Yuka about her experiences with negotiation studies.

まずゆか先生といえばコンフリクトマネジメントですが

First of all, when it comes to Yuka-sensei, it's conflict management.

交渉学との出会いですとか学びのきっかけから教えていただけますか

Can you tell me about how you first encountered negotiation studies and what inspired you to learn about it?

私が交渉学という分野で

In the field of negotiation studies,

その分野があるのが知ったのが

I found out that there is a field for that.

1990年代にアメリカで留学していたコロンビア大学ティーチャーズカレッジというところで

In the 1990s, at Teachers College, Columbia University, where I was studying abroad in the United States.

今はモートンドイッチ記念協力コンフリクト解決国際センターという長い日本語訳なんですけど

Right now, it's a long Japanese translation called the Morton Deutsch Memorial Cooperation Conflict Resolution International Center.

そこでコンフリクトマネジメントコンフリクトレゾリューションというシリーズの講座があるのが分かりまして

I found out that there is a series of courses called Conflict Management and Conflict Resolution.

紛争解決なんだよってその時思ってたんですけど

I was thinking at that time that it was about conflict resolution.

友達が取ろう取ろうって取ってみたら

When my friend kept saying to take it, I tried taking it.

おーみたいなこれまでの受けた授業やなんかあらゆるものを超えた大感動があって

Oh, there was a great emotional impact that surpassed all the classes I've taken and everything I've experienced so far.

そこからコンフリクトマネジメントあるいはコンフリクトレゾリューションという分野があって

From there, there is the field of conflict management or conflict resolution.

その一つに交渉というものがあり

One of them is something called negotiation.

また第三者介入としてメディエーション

Mediation as a third-party intervention.

日本ではメディエーションって言ってるところもあるんですけども

In Japan, there are places that refer to it as mediation.

そういったやり方があるということを知り

I learned that there are ways to do that.

学んだ時にこれは日本でも絶対必要になるって

I realized that this will definitely be needed in Japan as well when I learned it.

思って本当にこれはみんなに伝えたいことだ

I really think this is something I want to convey to everyone.

広げたいことだと魂が打ち震えることがあった

There were times when my soul trembled with the desire to expand.

それがきっかけですね

That's what triggered it.

なるほど今出たコロンビア大学ティーチャーズカレッジについて

I see, it's about Columbia University's Teachers College that just came up.

もう少し詳しく教えていただけますか

コロンビア大学というのはニューヨークにある

Columbia University is located in New York.

IBリーグの一つの大学なんですけども

It's one of the universities in the Ivy League.

そこは大学院がたくさんあるところで

It is a place where there are many graduate schools.

ティーチャーズカレッジっていうのは教育学で

Teachers College is about education studies.

まとまった大学院組織なんですけれども

It's a well-organized graduate school.

もう数学美術アートからあらゆる数学科もあるし

There's also various mathematics subjects from math, art, and design.

いろんな科もある言語学社会学文化人類学

There are various fields such as linguistics, sociology, and cultural anthropology.

あらゆる科目が大学のようにありながら

While there are subjects just like in a university.

ただし教育というテーマで統合されている

However, it is integrated under the theme of education.

教育学系大学院なんですね

So it's a graduate school of education.

そうなんですね

I see.

そこで修士課程博士課程などがあるんですけども

So there are master's and doctoral programs, but...

私は結構元々言語教育や

I originally had quite a bit of experience in language education.

異文化コミュニケーションに興味があって

I am interested in intercultural communication.

それがいろいろ自分なりで

That's variously based on my own.

プログラムをカリキュラムを取れるっていう

It says you can take a program curriculum.

自由なるコースを取ってたんですけど

I was taking a free course.

そこでコンフリクトレゾリューションっていう

So it's called conflict resolution.

プログラムに出会ったんです

I came across the program.

そこでやはり運命的に先生方とも出会ったって感じでしょうか

So I guess it feels like I met the teachers by destiny.

まず最初のベーシックな一番の基礎クラスが

First, we have the basic foundational class.

週末2.5日ですね

It's a 2.5-day weekend, isn't it?

金曜日の夜から土日っていうのが

From Friday night to the weekend.

月3回続くような

"Something that continues three times a month."

授業で

In class

もう毎回それがワークショップ形式なんですよ

It's always done in a workshop format now.

その頃日本ではまだアクティブラーニングとか

At that time in Japan, active learning was still...

そういった言葉がなかった時代なんですけども

It was an era when such words did not exist.

実験的体験をしながら

While having experimental experiences.

仲間たちとディスカッションし

Discussing with my friends.

そして一体こういう

And what in the world is this?

自分たちで知識を構築していくような

Like building knowledge on our own.

プロセスが敷かれている

The process is established.

今言えば

If I say it now

トランスフォーマティブラーニングっていう手法と

The method called transformatively learning and...

コラボレーティブラーニング

Collaborative Learning

あるいはコープレーティブラーニングって言われるもの

Or it is something called cooperative learning.

なんですけども

Well, you see...

意識変容の学習と

Learning of consciousness transformation and

それから共同学習理論の背景を踏まえて

Then, based on the background of collaborative learning theory,

コンフリクト意見の対立や何かに対して

Conflict refers to the opposition of opinions or something.

建設的なコミュニケーションが取れる

Can engage in constructive communication.

あるいは建設的なコミュニケーション

Or constructive communication.

および異文化コミュニケーションや何かや

And intercultural communication or something.

価値観の違う人や対立に対しても

Even towards people with different values or conflicts.

向き合えるようなマインドセットと

A mindset that allows for facing each other.

行動を作ることを目的としてるんですね

The goal is to create actions, isn't it?

ですから知識をインプットするってことは

Therefore, inputting knowledge means...

もちろん基礎として必要なんですけど

Of course, it's necessary as a foundation, but...

知識を実践に生かすためには

To apply knowledge in practice.

自分自身の物の見方や考え方を変容させ

Transforming one's own perspective and way of thinking.

かつ行動に生かして

And put it into action.

ここの部分をきちんと授業で感じさせて

Make sure to convey this part properly during the class.

体験させてくれる場だったんですね

It was a place that allowed us to have an experience.

私この教育手法にものすごく感動しまして

I was incredibly moved by this educational method.

こういう授業を広げたいんだっていう意識を

I have the awareness that I want to expand classes like this.

すごく強めまして

Very strong.

卒業後も暇さえあれば

Even after graduation, whenever I have free time.

そこのティーチャーズガレッジに

To that Teacher's College there.

行ってアシスタントしたり

Go and assist.

なんかを2,3年そういうことしてましたね

I was doing that kind of thing for 2 or 3 years, I guess.

アメリカにいた時もそうですし

It was the same when I was in America.

日本にいてもトンボ帰りでニューヨークに行って

Even if I'm in Japan, I’ll just make a quick trip back to New York.

ワークショップや授業のお手伝いする

I will assist with workshops and classes.

ということで修行を積んでました

Can you tell me about that book?

まず最初に出版したのが

The first thing I published was

交渉とミディエーションという本なんですけども

It's a book about negotiation and mediation.

まずその意見の対立を建設的に解決する方法がある

First, there is a way to constructively resolve the conflict of opinions.

またはそういった考え方と話し合いの方法があるんだ

Or there is a way of thinking and discussing like that.

考え方があるんだと

There is a way of thinking.

これをまず日本にお知らせするということを考えまして

I was thinking about informing Japan about this first.

コンフィットレゾリューションの

基礎クラスの教科書

Textbook for the basic class

先生方が作った教科書があるんですね

There is a textbook that the teachers created, isn't there?

その教科書をまず翻訳するということを第一段階やって

First, let's translate that textbook as the first step.

それを別件で翻訳本として

Translate it as a separate matter as a translated book.

1998年かそのぐらいで出版してたんですけども

It was published around 1998 or so.

その一段落終わった時に

When that paragraph is finished,

今度はやっぱりアメリカっていう文化社会と

This time, it's definitely about the cultural society of America.

日本の文化社会成り立ち違うので

Because the structure of Japanese culture and society is different.

日本の方にもっと分かりやすく

To make it more understandable for Japanese people.

日本の文化を考えた上で

Considering Japanese culture.

コンフリクトマネジメントを紹介するやり方はないだろうかと

Is there a way to introduce conflict management?

そういうところからそもそもの

It all started from those kinds of places.

その交渉とミディエーションを書こうということになりまして

It was decided to write about the negotiation and mediation.

出版社も何も決まらずひたすら書いていたら

I kept writing endlessly without deciding on a publisher or anything.

そのことを知ったその時

At the moment I learned about that.

今の今の冷卓大学の名誉教授の

Currently, the honorary professor of Reitaku University.

八代京子先生なんですけど

It's about Professor Kyoko Yatsushiro.

彼女は別件でコンフリクトマネジメントやってらっしゃって

She is doing conflict management for another case.

それがその方が出版社を紹介してくださって

That person introduced me to the publisher.

本を出すっていう運びになったんですね

It seems that you have decided to publish a book.

彼女としてはそのコンフリクトマネジメントを学んだ子が来たみたいなことで

It seems like she came as a child who learned conflict management.

そういった点でもまだまだ日本では

In that regard, Japan is still far from it.

コンフリクトマネジメントという言葉すらあまり広がってない

The term "conflict management" hasn't really spread widely.

若海だったので

Because it was a young sea.

それがまた八代先生と私を結びつけるきっかけになったようなところがあります

21世紀の司法改革制度の流れから

From the trend of judicial reform systems in the 21st century.

法学部系ですね

It's the law school department.

法学部の方々が

People from the law school.

裁判での紛争解決ではなく

Not through dispute resolution in court.

第三者介入として

As third-party intervention

メディエーション

Mediation

法学部の方々はメディエーションと言ってるんですけども

People in the law faculty are referring to it as mediation.

そういうものを

Such things.

対話型頂点という形で取り入れようという機運が高まっていて

There is a growing momentum to incorporate it in the form of interactive vertices.

実は法学部系の方々の先生方で

Actually, among those in the law faculty, there are teachers from that background.

そういうことを

That's what I mean.

もうそろそろ日本で広めるんだという段階になってたと

It was at the stage where it was about time to spread it in Japan.

それに対して私は日本交渉学会と

In response, I have the Japan Negotiation Society and

異文化コミュニケーション学会という流れで

In the context of the Intercultural Communication Association.

両者は学会的には

Both parties are academically...

繋がってなかったんですけども

I wasn't connected, though.

コンフリクトマネジメントを私がやってるっていうところで

I am working on conflict management.

私の著書を読んだ和田先生が

Professor Wada, who read my book,

声をかけてくださって

鈴木さん早稲田の方でも

研究員やらないかみたいな話が来たということで

I received a suggestion to become a researcher or something like that.

各分野が縦割りの分野が

また結びついたっていう感じですね

It feels like we are connected again.

これは私が1990年終わって

This is when I finished in 1990.

2000年ぐらい

Around the year 2000.

帰国して2,3年後から

Two or three years after returning to my country.

企業研修というのをやり始めたんですけど

I've started doing corporate training.

最初は異文化コミュニケーションみたいなことを

At first, it was like intercultural communication.

やってたんですけど

I was doing it, but...

提案したんですね

You made a suggestion, didn't you?

意見の対立や何かについて

About conflicting opinions or something.

社内のコミュニケーションや何かについてのことを

About communication within the company or something related.

やらないかっていうのを提案したところ

When I suggested doing it...

最初はまずコンフリクトっていう単語

First, let's start with the word "conflict."

全くどこも知らなかった時代なんですよ

It was a time when I didn't know anything at all.

ところがそれを実際いくつかやる機会があって

However, I had the opportunity to actually do a few of those.

広まったんですけども

It became widespread.

結果的に金融業大手メーカー

As a result, a major financial industry manufacturer.

そういうところも含めますし

That includes such aspects as well.

また官庁や何かで人事院とか東京都庁

Also, the Personnel Authority and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in government offices or something.

職員研修とかそういうのがあるんですけど

There are things like staff training and so on.

職員研修やお客様との顧客対応サービスや

Staff training and customer service interactions with clients.

苦情処理にもそれが効くということで

It is said that it is effective for handling complaints as well.

広がったりとか

Spreading out or something like that.

21世紀の司法改革の流れの中から

From the flow of judicial reform in the 21st century.

私業団体ですね

It's a professional organization, isn't it?

司法書士行政書士土地科学調査士

Judicial scriveners, administrative scriveners, land surveyors.

まだ日本で第三者介入としての

Still as a third-party intervention in Japan.

メディエーションを紹介できる先生がいなかったので

There was no teacher available to introduce mediation.

それを踏まえて全国暗記はするみたいなことで

Based on that, it seems like they will memorize things nationally.

本当に様々な業界

Truly various industries.

職種の方々

People in various professions

地位の方々

People of high status

過去の10年ぐらいの間に出会ったなって感じですね

It feels like I've met you sometime in the past ten years.

本当にかなり幅広い業界で

Really quite a wide range of industries.

必要とされているものなんですね

It's something that is needed.

というか多分ある一定の年齢になって

I mean, probably when you reach a certain age...

人間ってどうしても社会的動物なので

Humans are inherently social animals.

人と人とコミュニケーションを取らなきゃならないじゃないですか

We must communicate with each other, right?

自分と同じ人間っていないじゃないですか

There is no one else in the world exactly like me, right?

そうしたら絶対に自分と同じ人間なんていないんですよ

In that case, there is definitely no one else in the world who is exactly like me.

となればどこにでも

If that's the case, then anywhere.

そうするとあるし

In that case, there is.

それは日常生活の一部で

It is a part of everyday life.

みんなが経験することで

As something everyone experiences

なんとかしたいって思いは

The feeling that I want to do something about it.

All humans, you know.

持っているものなんだと思うんですね

だから企業や社員だけでなく

So it's not just companies and employees.

今はたまたま専任という形で

大学の専任教員になりましたけども

I have become a full-time faculty member at the university.

過去にもいろいろな大学で非常勤講師をしていまして

I have worked as a part-time lecturer at various universities in the past.

どの大学でも好きさえあれば

As long as there is love, it doesn't matter which university.
