This is Watanabe.

It's a bit lonely talking by myself.

It's been a while since we talked, hasn't it?

As for those who are struggling,

How is the reflection meeting going?

I've been taking a little break.

It's not that I'm doing this with the intention of taking a break.

Just why?

Until the point of wondering if you're resting.

When I speak, you know...

It's turned into a situation where I can't talk about it, so I'm taking a break.

Well, in any case...

To put it simply, in the current state...

When I start talking by myself,

Let's talk here.

To tell you about it.

There is nothing but inappropriate things.

Will it be cut as a result?

Shall we be quiet?

Because it will end up being unavoidable.

I suppose that would be the case.

This is for those who are struggling.

Yutaka-san and Ken, etc.

This time as Ace-san

Chitai-san has come, but...

Related to those people.

It's not about something specific.

It's totally mine now.

It's based on my individual environment.

Why?

For those who are looking forward to that part a little bit.

I'm sorry, but...

Looking forward to it.

ものに

To things

If there is nothing to respond with.

I'm thinking a little like this right now.

ただね

Just, you know.

Since I went all the way to Gifu on a business trip,

This is for my personal record.

I want to keep it.

I went to Gifu twice.

えー

Eh?

When was it?

The last time I went was in July.

30, 31, and then August 1st.

I went for 203 days.

Almost two months ago as well.

I've been there.

It's for a pre-interview.

So what kind of interview is it?

Takashimaya in Gifu

It's the department store.

When the store closes.

This was announced much earlier.

えー

Uh...

The Takashimaya department store has disappeared.

This means that soon there will be no department stores left in Gifu Prefecture.

It was that way.

Fourth in the country.

Well, Yamagata is...

It's about the Konuma Department Store.

Because it went bankrupt in January 2020.

The very first in the country.

It's a prefecture without a department store.

From there, I went to Tokushima and then Shimane.

で今回

So this time

On July 31, Takashimaya in Gifu will...

It means "That means it's closing."

This means we would be the fourth in the nation.

So now I'm at this place called the department store newspaper.

A series, you know.

I receive a bi-monthly serialization.

The theme of the current series is...

Well, places like that department store are disappearing.

That's where it has become the last one remaining.

うーん

Hmm.

Well, I haven't done this yet, but...

A地方 department store that is doing well and properly.

That being said.

About things, you know.

Go to the site and conduct an interview.

I heard stories from the townspeople.

Department store in that town.

What kind of existence is that now?

How has it changed compared to the past?

That's what I'm saying.

Hmm, in that town...

Yeah, in that town.

"I'll write while relying on the memories of the townspeople."

Well, I'm doing a series.

うん

Yeah.

So last time we did Koriyama...

I'm doing a theme based on a thin department store in Koriyama.

Well, I would like you to come to that prefecture.

I just had a conversation about it.

Well, after that, it will be serialized four more times.

Finally, at the end of July.

It must be Takashimaya in Gifu that is closing.

So that's it.

Well, this is...

I conducted the interview in two parts.

Well, that is...

Um, to witness the pacification.

I have returned to Yamagata.

That's the story this time.

うん

Yeah.

During that pre-interview.

When I went there, it was still...

It wasn't cold, but it was cool.

Like May or June or something.

May or the latter half of May.

うん

Yeah.

Let's go for two nights as well.

来て

Come here.

First of all, the closure has already been announced, but...

Well then, that...

I understood that department stores are going to disappear.

I wonder what the situation in Gifu is like now.

Especially the shopping district with the department store.

Well, I guess I've seen what that's like.

This is the first time.

In Gifu,

Um, in the shopping street...

When you talk about the central shopping district, you mean...

It's called Yanase.

From JR Gifu Station

About walking.

About 10 to 15 minutes.

えー

Eh?

It depends on the walking speed, though.

About with my feet.

It should be about 10 minutes or so.

Well, you know...

Well, it gives the impression that it's far from the station.

What is a shopping district?

But this is the case everywhere, you know.

Basically, Yamagata too then.

If you're asking about where in the central shopping district...

七日町

Nanakamachi

うん

Yeah.

Well, I guess I'll walk from the station after all.

It should take about 10 minutes or so.

Yeah, to begin with.

When creating a station,

The already completed shopping district.

I can't just slap it right next to me.

That's not feasible in terms of location.

Make it a little farther away.

Due to the establishment of the station

Commercial facilities are being built again in that area.

So it will be like that.

Well, it's understandable that it's far away.

Somehow, after all.

As I thought, when I actually walk from the station...

I thought it was a bit far.

Well, when you actually go and try it...

Well, it's spacious.

広い

Wide

The population of Yamagata is only about 200,000.

In Gifu City, the population is...

It's 400,000 people.

That's why it's nearly twice as much.

But when it comes to the size of the shopping district...

Is it more than twice as much as Nakanoshima?

But if we're talking about the scale of the shopping district, it might be more than twice that of Nanokamachi, right?

Yanase Shopping District is...

Well, there's Takashimaya standing over there.

ただね

Just that.

Well, if I were to describe it from experience...

About 60% to nearly 70%.

We are already closed.

うん

Yeah.

It's a shuttered street.

Well, in "Wednesday Downtown"...

It seems like it was featured.

I found that out later.

Somehow, it still feels like the number one shuttered shopping street in Japan.

There is a shopping street called Yanase in Gifu.

Apparently, it seems like you’re being introduced.

Really now...

Full of shutters.

あー

Ah-

I was wondering if you're taking a break today.

When I first went there,

It was a weekday, probably Tuesday.

And on Tuesday in Nanakamachi

There are many places that have regular days off.

It's from Yamagata.

According to one theory, Onuma was closed for a break.

Once, I adjusted it to fit somewhere.

That's the shopping street.

It's about the agreement.

It's about the story of something that remains as a remnant.

I've heard about it.

それなら

In that case

I'm just wondering how it might be.

It's full of shutters.

うん

Yeah.

There are some shops that are opening little by little.

It's not like there's anyone inside.

There are hardly any people walking in the shopping district in the first place.

Well then, Takashimaya.

This is going to be gone soon.

It's said that it will be closing in a few months.

I thought I would give it a try, but...

It's still pretty empty, isn't it?

This is just like Yamagata now.

The cosmetic department on the first floor has some spots after all.

That beautiful appearance.

I have a grandmother and others.

But above the second floor...

There are almost no people left.

At most, there is a bookstore.

To the upper floor, to the high-rise higher up.

Well, there.

Compared to other floors.

I wonder if there are people around.

The place with the most people is definitely...

Basement grocery store

So there.

I'll say it in Yamagata.

Isn't there something called ajiman?

Aji-man yaki and Imaya yaki, huh?

It varies depending on the region.

Speaking of Yamagata...

There is a store selling ajiman.

That's the only place.

There was just a little bit of a line.

On a weekday, I guess.

It's still around 10 or 11 o'clock.

I look and think that this shop is popular, but...

Well, it seems it's not originated from Gifu after all.

Where is that?

It's not Kyoto, it's Hyogo, right?

Around there, I guess.

Hmm.

I'm waiting in the back seat.

Well, speaking of Yamagata...

It's a flavor man, though.

What is "aji manda"?

It's red bean paste and cream cheese, right?

Is it filled with custard cream?

うん

Yeah.

だけど

However

The back seat is somehow divided into red and white.

Well, it's called Anko and Shiro Ant.

I wonder if that was the case.

Hmm.

But that's about it.

I really thought it was empty.

うーん

Hmm.

Hmm.

うん

Yeah.

Hmm.

So, let's go around and explore various places.

Please find that vacant store.

I visited and heard stories from a shop that has been around for a long time.

If you do it like that, you know...

I guess it's the same everywhere, after all.

In the old days,

This Yanase shopping district too

People used to walk shoulder to shoulder, bumping into each other.

What do you mean by that?

I've heard that even in Koriyama.

I heard it a lot in Yamagata too.

I think that's how it was everywhere.

It already has a population of 400,000 now.

That must have been even more the case.

I think that's how it is.

Gifu is...

It's a bit different from the situation in Yamagata.

That said, the situation in Koriyama isn't that different either.

What I mean is

Yanase stirs up a man's desires.

There is an aspect that suggests it has flourished.

Well, there were a lot of night spots.

About this...

Well, everyone says the same thing.

For example, that still...

Back when there were things like receptions for public servants...

When there were prefectural officials and such.

Come to Yanase, okay?

It's the so-called issue that's being talked about now.

There's something called "under-the-table money."

You use it a lot in the store.

It's really the case that I've issued receipts for hundreds of thousands.

That happened sometimes too.

I'm saying that.

There were also old ladies working in the izakaya, you know.

Since I became unable to do such things.

It's also because people's eyes have become stricter.

And then there's drunk driving, right?

Everyone came to Yanase by car.

Drinking alcohol.

Just drive home like that.

Because I was able to do that.

Many people played at Yanase.

So now, that's obviously not possible.

Well, that's that.

It's not that the past was better.

In the accident that occurred because of that.

The people who have passed away

That's not a lot, is it?

There were probably a lot of them.

That has become a problem.

Let's not do that kind of thing now.

Because it has been made more severely punishable.

I think it was a necessary measure.

So, why has Yanase been losing energy?

When I thought about what to say,

I guess there was indeed a change in the environment.

Well, this is one analysis.

This kind of thing, huh?

Because there are people who get confused.

Just to emphasize, let me say this.

I'm not saying that the past was better.

This is something that happened, you see.

So,

Well then.

Well, that's how it is.

Well, so to speak.

The practice of government-to-government and government-to-private hospitality is fading away.

Plus, drunk driving has become stricter.

Customers have left Yanase.

But there is an existence that put an end to it there.

これはね

This is

I still think I need to go to the actual location.

I have to go on the internet.

Even when I search on the internet, the reason for the decline of Yanase is...

Well, various other reasons come up.

There's a story that didn't come up.

But when everyone hears the stories happening on-site,

There are things we all say in unison.

That's the national sports festival from 2012.

of Gifu

It's the year after the earthquake disaster.

There was the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

From there.

Under the pretext of disaster recovery support.

What is meant by "kokutai"?

So that's when they start putting up signs like that.

2012年

2012 year

It's the following year.

The national sports festival will be held in Gifu.

Many athletes are coming from all over the country.

That plus.

Of course, politicians will also come.

It means that His Majesty the Emperor will also be coming.

It's the same no matter where you do it.

If that's the case.

Like Yanase.

There are so many night spots.

It seems like there is a place where men are gathering.

It's outrageous, I would say.

To entertain such guests from outside.

It seems that it was decided that it wouldn't be good.

Up above.

I won't say that from myself in the street.

As the so-called policy of Gifu Prefecture,

It was decided that we would purify this town.

Things like that.

The part that holds the so-called core of the bustling Yanase shopping district.

It seems they were suddenly forced to stop their business entirely.

Please just take a break for this time.

"Don't do business elsewhere."

They were saying that they were forced to close their business.

That is a major reason for the current shuttered state of Yanase Shopping Street.

In Yanase.

In terms of the central area and the east and west.

It's divided into three parts.

It's about the west.

特にその

Especially that.

It was a place where people in the so-called "water trade" gathered.

That place is...

もう

Already

It's about 80% closed.

うん

Yeah.

Only the sign remains.

うん

Yeah.

There are also people who solicit customers with her.

There are hardly any shops that are open.

They say it doesn't exist.

It's really an incredible situation.

うん

Yeah.

When you ask people who have been in business for a long time, it really comes down to the national character.

They said that people from Gifu are serious, right?

There was an old lady.

The grandma who runs the udon shop, you know.

Gifu is serious, you know.

I didn't expect His Majesty the Emperor to come and visit a place like this in the shopping district.

It seems that they opposed it.

Not being listened to.

結局

In the end.

うーん

Hmm.

The store is closed.

Of course, the customers who came with that in mind are...

That's why the feet don't come near.

Where I'm going is...

I'm having fun in Nagoya.

前はね

It was before.

It seems that many people also came from Nagoya to visit Gifu.

もう

Already

There's no longer a reason to come all the way here.

So this Nagoya thing is important, isn't it?

For Gifu.

うん

Yeah.

For Gifu

From Yamagata to Sendai.

The relationship between Yamagata and Sendai is often said to be similar.

Okay.

People in Yamagata go shopping.

I'm going shopping.

Go out to play.

Right?

I said something weird earlier.

You said you were going shopping.

うん

Yeah.

I'm going to have a little drink.

I'm sorry.

Well, even if I'm going shopping...

Even if I go out to play,

It's been said for a long time that one should go to Sendai.

But I also started working part-time after becoming a high school student.

When I got my part-time wages, I was thinking about going to Sendai and doing things like that.

Take an express bus.

うん

Yeah.

People are increasingly moving from Yamagata to Sendai.

Many people live in Yamagata and work in Sendai, right?

In the morning.

It's the morning, like in the morning.

From Yamagata to that bus stop at Sendai Station.

You'll understand if you try it.

うん

Yeah.

There are many people.

Someone who says they're going to work now.

I'm arranging it.

It takes about an hour to get to the bus stop from there.

So, what about Gifu and Nagoya?

I’m trying to imagine how many minutes it would take to travel back and forth on the JR rapid train.

Well, it’s about the fact that Aichi Prefecture and Gifu Prefecture are neighboring areas.

This is 20 minutes.

It’s 20 minutes. That means, whether you're going to Yamagata or driving to the neighboring city, it takes about 20 minutes, right?

それを

That.

Well, even though there's the hassle of getting to the station, once you get on the train, you'll arrive in the big metropolis of Nagoya, Japan's third largest city, in just 20 minutes.

Well, you know...

Everyone who can move

Well, you see...

It's about saying I'm going over there, so...

Many people live in Gifu, where rent and land prices are low, and work in Nagoya. When it comes to going out for drinks or shopping on their days off, there are many young people who head to Nagoya.

Even if we don't split up, there are things like the so-called Aeon malls in the suburbs.

Hmm, I wonder what it is that I have to go all the way to Gifu for, even though I don't have anything.

Mm.

If the streets lined with all those night shops were to disappear, then there would be no reason to go all the way to Gifu to drink, would there?

It's that kind of thing.

Well, there's a notable example of that, and I heard it at an izakaya in Nagoya.

People still come to Gifu to play and shop.

When I asked if they would ever come from that side, they said, "Well, actually, they do."

It's not just Yanase; there's a place called Kanazuen.

That place is a soap land, yeah.

That's the only strength that remains to gather people from Gifu.

Even if that's the only strength that continues to attract people from Gifu.

It seems like it's quite deteriorated, though.

Well, I guess it was expected.

If there are people coming to the mackerel (fish), I’ll say it's soap.

Aaaaaa

That's what it means.

I think there are definitely some people who feel disgusted by stories like this.

Even the people working there have various circumstances.

There might be.

Not everyone is working hard.

"Unavoidably or out of necessity."

Without any options left.

There may be people who had no choice but to enter such industries.

だから

Therefore

If it weren't for that, then.

In that way

I think it's not something I can easily say.

でも

But

The relationship between Nagoya and gifts.

If you think about it calmly,

Such analysis

So that means it can be done.

Whatever the case, as expected...

The desires of people

I have to catch it.

"I feel that my legs can't move."

The reason I think.

It is both hunger and lust.

だから

So.

I want to meet this girl.

I want to eat this.

No matter what.

To move people.

Strengths are necessary in the city, huh?

I think it’s something like that.

I was thinking, but...

About Gifu.

Various social changes and so on.

At the national athletic meet, etc.

Things like that

It's being taken away more and more.

It means that it's been left as it is.

That result is Takashimaya's current situation.

It's closing down.

Even knowing that it will close down

It seems that it's hard to gather people.

I think it means there is no reason to go.

I thought in that way.

But what could it be?

I’m getting emotionally attached to a city that is really weak.

It's like the so-called favoritism towards the weak.

When it turns out that way.

I think it lacks fairness.

でもね

But you know.

I can't help but get emotionally involved.

It's about the townscape, or rather.

I don't know what to do about this.

It's something called helplessness.

What kind of thing are you thinking?

The first interview.

After completing a 2-night, 3-day stay.

You're saying you've come back, right?

これが

This is

If it really closes down.

I wonder what will happen.

In the shopping district.

Really a person.

There are weekdays, but...

But even on weekends, there aren't any people walking around at all.

They're saying it like that, right?

Everyone, you know.

でも

But

I don't know

I don't know.

何か

Something

So, then, therefore

Well, the schedule for the interview itself is...

It's already been decided that there will be a second time.

The day before closing.

On July 30th

Entered Gifu at 31.

Then, I’ll wait until the 1st of the following month.

Before closing.

Closing day.

After closing.

That town and such.

Response from Gifu Prefecture.

Let's properly observe the movements.

So, that's how it is.

It was decided.

So, I went on this occasion.

July 30

Well, it's the day before the closure.

Takashimaya, huh?

えーと

Um...

I arrived in Gifu.

It’s probably around 2 o’clock.

うん

Yeah.

Is it 2:30?

Check in to the hotel.

Finish it by 3 o'clock.

After putting down the luggage

えーと

Um...

Well, the hotel itself is...

Walking from the station.

It was about 10 minutes away.

From there even further

Walk for 10 minutes and then return to the station.

The reason is that

You can rent a bicycle for 1000 yen a day.

うん

Yeah.

I borrowed it during the previous interview as well.

1,000 yen for 24 hours.

with an electric motor

What is it?

Is it equipped with electric assist?

うん

Yeah.

自転車

Bicycle

It's a regular one without any assistance at all.

It's 600 yen.

If you pay 1000 yen

That one with the assist feature is borrowed.

It's super easy.

Have you ever ridden it?

That electric assist one you can rent is super convenient.

That electric assist one.

It's the one that grandpa or grandma rides, isn't it?

People who think like that...

I think it's okay to give it a try once.

"Even in Yamagata, it's still bitter."

確か

Certainly

I don't know if the one with assist is available or not.

The rental bicycles themselves are available.

Really, yeah.

Just borrowing it for one or two hours is fine.

You should try riding that.

It's super easy.

うん

Yeah.

It's this temperature, especially.

"Even Tokyo now..."

I was in Tokyo the day before.

At that time, it was 40 degrees.

でさ

So, then.

Gifu is also indeed...

Like 34 or 35.

It's been sunny the whole time.

So, about that...

That walking.

Little by little

I can't do any interviews.

The reason is that I'll die.

Okay.

So it will be soon.

Rent a bicycle.

So that's why I went to the shopping district.

でね

So, you know...

So far, it's been quite rare.

Well, there was an arcade in Koriyama too.

The arcade is still intact in Yanagase.

Ah.

I felt like I could see the entrance to the arcade.

Takashimaya will soon come into view.

うん

Yeah.

That day was different, wasn't it?

As I thought.

It's as if I've already stood at the entrance of the arcade.

At the point when the bicycle intruded in.

I can somewhat see a mass of people.

でね

So, you know...

Well, that being said...

I can't enter the department store.

It's not like we're always forming a line.

You’re really taking pictures, aren’t you?

Oh, is it someone who wants to finish shopping?

Or are you someone who is going shopping now?

Holding up a smartphone.

I'm taking a picture of that front entrance.

Ah, I really feel like the situation is changing.

When you enter the first floor

Well, it turns out it was the same weekday after all.

The number of people was completely different, huh?

うーん

Hmm.

The number of customers on the floor is clearly different.

Well, it's no surprise, I guess.

Um, we’re having a closing sale.

There are discounts of 20% off or 30% off on the products.

Well, regarding cosmetics...

By the day before, it was already almost sold out.

Um, products that have stickers or something on them.

I wonder, was it about 60%?

Hmm, whether I go up to the second floor or the third floor...

That woman's clothing and women's goods, etc.

Well, everyone is flocking to the sale items.

It's a place where there are already hardly any people.

It felt like they were sold out.

Yeah, I guess that's how it would turn out.

It's also about creating memories.

Well, there are also people gathering who say they'll buy if it becomes cheaper.

Yes, I thought, "Well, if that's the case, it will be painful."

Well, for now, let's leave the basement floor aside.

I kept going up from the first floor to the second floor and then to the third floor.

I kept going up from the first floor to the second and third floors.

うん

Yeah.

Look up to the top.

Ah, there are already some places that have closed.

Depending on the tenant.

Especially regarding food.

Sure, thank you very much.

There were about four or five restaurants on the top floor.

Where it can be eaten

It’s probably due to procurement issues.

I feel like I haven't done about half of it.

I looked around and finally ended up at the basement level 1.

As expected, there are already a lot of people there.

However, there are quite a few products.

Especially fresh products.

Fresh food.

Fish and meat, etc.

I guess it’s because it’s more difficult to end up with leftovers after all.

The items on the shelves and display cases were considerably fewer.

As I thought, the most noticeable thing is that.

I am a Gozamonk.

It's called "Ajiman" in Yamagata.

When I went at the end of May

That's right.

Even if you say there are people lined up...

There were about 7 or 8 people.

On July 30, the day before the closing.

In terms of time

That's right.

3時半

3:30

In the afternoon.

They're lined up in a row.

It's already overflowing from the floor.

I wonder what that is.

To the stairs.

Leads to the first floor.

They are lined up at the stairs leading to the ground floor.

I asked the person behind me.

I asked how long the line is.

A little while ago, the shop assistant came.

This is one and a half hours.

1 hour and 30 minutes

I was told to wait.

Is that so?

By the way, for this person from Gifu...

For the people of Gifu.

These five seated monks...

So when you say it's a taste of memories...

I knew it.

That person is...

They looked to be around their 50s.

As expected, when I was small...

When my parents come to Takashimaya

"I'll definitely buy it and take it home."

As a souvenir.

Because it can be frozen.

Buy a little extra.

The parts that cannot be eaten that day

Put it in the freezer.

When you want to eat it in the microwave.

"Don't eat it heated."

That's the kind of story I'm sharing.

So, in other words, it's those parents, too.

Even when I ask that generation,

I knew I would come shopping at Takashimaya.

I heard you are going to buy five monks and bring them home.

That's what's happening.

I came from Yamagata a little bit.

I'm not very familiar with those circumstances.

I’m going to do it like that, you know.

Then when I talk about it, you know?

I'm glad to hear that you will tell me.

Memories, huh?

Well, what is it?

Just this.

It may not be correct, but...

If that person said it.

Kintetsu, you know.

It seems that the "Gozasangyō" priests are quite popular.

"Then let's say it's at our place."

I heard that they made something called imagawayaki.

So we decided to try to make this popular.

I guess there are a lot of ideas among the five monk seats.

The deliciousness of that idea is completely different.

So rather than imagawayaki,

If I had to choose, I would say that we are...

I heard that you are a monk of the five seats.

They were saying.

Well, so to speak.

Is it called soul food?

I was thinking something like that.

It's a story about saying thank you.

Right?

Thank you for letting me hear that.

From there, it's the shopping street again.

What do you mean by going around various places?

I prepared for the final day, you know.

まあ

Well...

Just a little.

It's quite abbreviated.

There were various things that happened.

There were various things that happened that were unrelated to the department.

Until then, if I start talking, really nothing...

It's not that the conversation isn't progressing.

This will be a completely unrelated topic.

The stock around here is...

I hope we can talk somewhere sometime.

I think that's how it is.

"It's true that Gifu is..."

うーと

U-to

If there was a misunderstanding, then there's nothing we can do about it.

Including both the good aspects and the bad aspects.

An attractive city.

I thought that it was so.

あー

Ah-

There are things that are truly wonderful.

What on earth is this?

It's more like I felt down.

There were parts that left me astonished, but...

Well, just like humans.

In that way, it's like two wheels working together.

The charm of a person is something that is cultivated over time.

I thought that cities are like that too.

Well, this time...

Only the parts related to the interview.

I'll summarize it a bit.

Well, so to speak.

Hmm, how should I put it?

of purification

While savoring the part of the flavor.

After finishing the first day.

The next day.

It's the day of closing, finally.

Since it's a department store, it opens at 10 o'clock.

うん

Yeah.

Yeah, I think I woke up around 6:30 in the morning.

So I took a bath.

For breakfast.

Did you eat something or not?

Well, for now…

Well, among the people I have to deal with, there's just something.

I left the hotel, right after getting on my bicycle.

It's an electric assist bicycle, right?

From the hotel.

You can get there smoothly in about 5 minutes.

As expected, it's around before 8:30.

Until the store opens.

Well, about an hour and a half.

I thought there wouldn't be anyone here.

If there isn't anyone, if there isn't anyone.

"Why don't you just go into a café or something?"

Some casual talk about the neighborhood.

Just eavesdropping is enough.

Because it's educational.

Well, I was thinking of doing that.

Already, you know.

In front of the illuminated entrance.

There's a line of about 20 people.

I thought so.

もうね

Already, huh?

With iron bars.

It seems that some kind of enclosure has been made.

It seems like it's organized to manage the queue.

でね

So, you know...

Gifu Takashimaya is...

It seems they have been in business for 47 years.

The last day is

First 470 people.

This is in honor of 47.

Do it like a tracing.

The first 470 people will receive what is known as Takashimaya's...

The rose, which is a symbol.

I will distribute it.

So you were doing it, huh?

So the people lined up there are...

その

That

First 470 people.

I’m lined up early to make sure I get in properly.

It means that you are lining up to receive a rose.

I thought it was amazing.

Just a little of that situation.

I took some pictures from a distance.

Little by little.

I might want it too.

I guess you thought that, huh?

I really feel sorry for the locals.

I think that's how it is.

I’m just someone like that.

Just that.

うん

Yeah.

I came here at the end of May and haven't been back since.

It is.

Even though it’s said to be for health through coverage...

In the end, I'm doing it for the money, after all.

Somehow, someone like that.

I thought so, but...

I guess I should take this after all.

うん

Yes.

To enhance the quality of health.

Should receive

Moreover, it seems like they want to talk on the radio.

With such ulterior motives in mind.

We’ve lined up, and we’re around 29th in line.

About the people standing in line.

I wish I could talk about this.

"Then, just listen to what you hear."

Just remembering it somehow is enough.

I was thinking, "That would be nice."

Well, there were quite a few gains from that too.

The hour and a half spent waiting in line...

うん

Yeah.

Join the line.

By 9 o'clock, it had increased to 50 people.

When it becomes 9:15.

I was thinking that it might be around 100 people.

As I thought, it's 30 minutes before opening.

Right?

Suddenly increasing by two or three times.

I heard this later, but...

Anyone who has arrived by 9:30.

Oh, come on.

I heard they said it has been closed.

So, after all, it's opening.

About 30 minutes ago as a rough estimate.

It seems that there were many people who came as a guideline, huh?

The number of people increased explosively from there.

It's already full with 470 people.

It seems like the store will open about 10 minutes from now.

There's some activity at the store.

Hmm, something like that...

The mascot character that came to the store is...

Is this not from Takashimaya but from Gifu?

A character related to Gifu.

To greet with oden at that entrance.

It's just about preparation.

When they come, from this line of people.

There was applause and so on.

At that point already.

I guess there hasn't been a scene like this for a long time.

At the location of Takashimaya in the Gurinai Yanase shopping district.

People are overflowing explosively.

Hmm, when you're lining up...

It's been a long time since I've seen such a scene; the Takashimaya in Yanase shopping street is overflowing with people explosively.

I don't think there was ever a scene like this at Takashimaya in Yanase Shopping Street.

People are overflowing explosively.

I heard that they are taking pictures of the living entity at Takashimaya.

うーん

Hmm.

And

For the first time passing by.

Oh, there was also someone named Kyokawa.

I guess you did it.

うーん

Hmm.

Anyway, people.

Walking.

Stopping in place.

Even the people who were walking stopped for a moment.

It's like that.

そんな

Like that.

うーん

Hmm.

Between 9:30 and 10:00.

And then, the opening begins.

うーん

Hmm.

A paper bag that seems to have been made for that day.

"Thank you for 47 years."

Photo of things

That of Takashimaya.

絵と

With the picture

It's a picture of the exterior.

Inside the paper bag with that message written on it

Two roses are stuck in it.

The one wrapped with those two roses.

Please hand it over to me.

うーん

Hmm.

So, well...

Everyone is like this inside the store.

They will come rushing in.

うーん

Hmm.

Well, there were still almost all the products left.

It might not be left anymore.

うーん

Hmm.

I wonder what it is.

あれは

That is

More than a product, it's a memory.

You're coming to put it in the basket, huh?

I thought it was like that.

Everyone, you know.

うーん

Hmm.

There's a message board near the entrance.

There is that.

You must have been doing it for a while now, right?

"With that handwritten note."

On that square piece of paper

Well, an A4 sheet of paper.

I see.

It looks like it was divided into about six parts.

On a square piece of paper

うーん

Hmm.

I'm writing a message.

"on the board where it is attached"

Then...

Well, my grandma brought me here.

あのー

Um...

それが

That is it.

It's a good memory.

That grandma

"They passed away, but..."

うーん

Hmm.

Anyway

I wonder what it is.

I was brought here by my parents, but...

After a while,

I brought my own child with me.

It's a store that holds such memories.

It might be written down.

"Is it okay if I take a picture?"

I asked the store clerk about that.

I captured everything in the photos.

うん

Yeah.

Well, there are people who flock to sale items.

There are people swarming around the remaining sale items.

When I went up to the upper floor,

Until now.

Up until now, or rather...

The last time I came.

I thought there were a certain number of people present.

I suppose the bookstore is where the least number of people are.

It seems that a reversal phenomenon is occurring.

So, in the end, I decided to go down to the basement.

Well, what's called

That's it.

It's a great procession.

What is it, after all?

You're a sweet bean paste-filled pastry, huh?

It's about the flavor.

Yeah, already.

It's not about the part where it's sticking out on the stairs.

It's going up to the second and third floors.

That line of stairs.

It's already been two and a half hours since the store opened.

Town

"I'm waiting for you to come around the store."

I went outside and talked to the people who were out there.

They said it's already been over 3 hours.

By the way, you know...

Take a 20-minute train ride.

There's a Takashimaya in Nagoya.

これ

This

The Takashimaya in Nagoya is directly accessible by JR.

You can enter directly from inside the station.

So, to put it another way,

As long as I get on the train.

I can get to Takashimaya in Nagoya in 20 minutes.

Inside that, there's a "sousaku" (sweet bean paste) filling.

So, the people who are waiting for 3 hours...

It's just that I will be leaving that line.

It's okay to walk.

A bicycle would be fine, too.

Go to Gifu Station.

If you take the train

Well, at most it will take about 1 to 1.5 hours.

I'm going to change the filling.

After all, everyone wants to buy it here.

Over there.

After all, department stores...

I'm not here to buy anything.

I thought that everyone is in the same situation.

It's a truly basic realization, but...

Really basic things.

And moreover, that phenomenon is...

From the outside, it looks...

Well then...

Because I know the store is closing.

Well, we’re gathering only after saying it’s tomorrow or the final day.

If you usually make an effort like this...

It wasn't supposed to turn out like this, right?

I understand good opinions as well.

That's how I've thought about it.

In the case of Gifu, the circumstances are somewhat different.

This is a bit complicated, so I'll skip it this time.

Please read that serial.

I will promote it, though.

Even considering that there are such special circumstances in the case of Gifu,

But if we usually had this many customers,

I don't think it ended up closing like that.

だけど

But

That's right, trying to join the line from an hour and a half ago.

I've tried talking to various people, including customers.

First 400 people.

It seems that receiving 70 roses was quite precious after all.

I looked around the store while holding that paper bag.

Go outside and take a picture.

Since it's such a great opportunity, I thought I'd take the roses out of that paper bag.

Take out the two roses.

I was taking a photo where the exterior of Takashimaya and the roses overlap.

Then, they'll talk to you.

I'm sorry, but I'm asked if I received that.

Oh, is that so? Please wait a moment in line.

What time did you line up?

Because I was told so.

No, around 8:30.

Haa, I came after 9:30 though.

I see, so it really wasn't possible to make it in time after all.

Because of what was said.

If you’d like, shall I lend you that rose?

That person came alone too, you know.

Well then, I'll borrow it.

Just like me.

Because I'm taking pictures that overlap the Takashimaya and the rose flowers.

I thought this wouldn't be useful.

I was thinking of staying in front of this shop for a while.

To flaunt the roses.

Then, after all, you know...

It seems to be the grandmother and her daughter.

Women around 50 to 60 years old.

It's like the two of us have been together like this.

I take pictures with my smartphone.

Then Mom, you take the picture first.

Well then, I'll have you take the next one for me.

Each person is switching in and out while doing it.

"Well then, shall we take a picture?"

If you don't mind, how about taking a photo with this rose?

They're really into it.

So, while I was taking pictures...

"When I hear you two talking about various things you've been through since long ago..."

As I thought, what about the cat seat?

After all, it seems like there are events like this...

I haven't been coming recently, but...

I came after the store closed, but...

Conversations give rise to opportunities.

But after all, everyone...

There were indeed some people who came here every day after work.

Recently, there are people who feel really disappointed about drifting apart.

So really, this.

I think it’s because of that ironic gaze.

I think that's true.

But somehow, you know...

I felt for a long time that there was something that shouldn't just end there.

What that means is, after all, everyone...

There is a family over there.

I have left behind my family's memories.

I thought you came to pick it up.

うん

Yeah.

Were you really close with your dad and mom back then?

We were really close, right? But I'm sure this is just my imagination.

It's a memory of coming here together with my grandmother who has passed away.

Everyone came to collect it, you know, inside the basket.

うん

Yeah.

なんで

Why?

So, is there a need to collect it?

Surely, memories with family right now…

I think it has become difficult to create.

Compared to the past.

The trend of each family becoming more individualized has progressed.

There are certainly couples who choose not to have children even after getting married.

There are some people who say they won't get married at all.

This is because, as society matures,

There are things like that.

I think it's only natural for such things to come up.

In the past, Japan was about getting married and having children.

We need to keep increasing the number of children more and more.

It was probably tough for the country as well.

I think there were parts that were difficult on a personal level as well.

I have to consider public perception and increase the workforce.

At that level, such as individuals, organizations, or countries.

After all, it seems that everyone is increasingly inclined to get married and have children.

It's fine with just family.

I think there is a need for family togetherness.

I guess this is all there is right now.

Once the environment is improved, one can live alone if necessary.

There are joys and conveniences in living alone.

The act of deliberately creating a family, giving birth, and increasing the number of children...

It became unnecessary to live.

だけど

But

To begin with, to those who know such things.

It is a reflection of the changing times.

A society where such things are no longer needed.

I feel like there's something missing somewhere.

I just thought a bit.

But everyone, that's inside the department store.

I think it was just left as it was.

So naturally, there are people who come together as parent and child.

Even this close parent and child.

In the past, there were more places.

We used to go out together, right?

Compared to the past and now

Feeling the things that have been lost.

I think that's why they came to pick it up.

After all, I should go to the site and hear what they have to say.

I thought that everyone would start talking about family.

I wonder if that's why they realized it.

うん

Yeah.

That's why family is essential to life.

Because it has become unnecessary.

Department stores are said to be in decline.

I thought it might be seen from a different perspective.

Because it was going to disappear.

I think everyone came to gather memories.

I think it could also be viewed that way.

That's why you guys haven't gone until now.

The irony of saying that department stores are disappearing.

From that perspective, it seems completely off the mark.

うーん

Hmm.

That is what I mean.

I thought so.

The reason I realized such a thing is that...

"Donating while riding the train."

The shopping street in front of the station.

When you walk through that bustling area in front of the station

There are a lot of delinquents, you know.

Yeah, there are clearly a lot of people who are just mischievous.

People like that aren't in department stores, you know.

お客として

As a customer.

うん

Yeah.

No, that is shopping at the department store.

You might be thinking that there are different types of customers or something like that.

But a set of five costs 110 yen.

Well, I guess even the delinquents might come to buy it too.

Even people who think, "I don't need such expensive clothes,"

Even for those who think that what I'm wearing is different from what brands have in department stores,

I think if there were something delicious for 110 yen, it would seem worth coming to buy, but there isn't anything.

Usually, people have black hair, right?

Well then...

There are some elderly people with a bit of brown or purple in their hair.

Everyone's clothing is either modest or elegant.

Luxury sleeves

Like a yankee with blonde hair and baggy clothes, you know?

They're not here at all.

I was wondering what this is.

Probably

Those people called yankees...

I think family memories are still fulfilling even now.

Some people say, right?

Words like "family" or "household" are used so easily.

You know, that actually has a family in real time.

That is with one's own blood-related family as well.

There were probably various things like a rebellious phase, but...

The bonds haven't been lost, and surely we're still creating memories now.

In addition to that, within the connections of friends and senior/junior relationships.

Because I am building a family.

For those people, the memories of their forgotten family...

I think it's probably not inside the department store.

So there's no need to come and pick it up.

They are in urban areas like Nagoya.

"Such as Aeon Mall, there is already a family residence."

"I'm transferring memories to production."

So there's no need to come to the department store.

ああ

Ah.

You know...

Then.

これについて

About this.

Regarding that situation.

I wonder how the future will unfold based on the analysis.

I still haven't had the time or the opportunity to analyze it.

As a result of the observations

Did you feel something like that?

Unfortunately, in the case of Yamagata,

Thanks to the announcement that Konuma Department Store has really closed down...

What is called a department store

What kind of existence it was for us.

The opportunity to think things over carefully is...

There wasn't any.

Even if it existed, it was relegated to a rather特殊 case.

It was difficult, but...

This time, somehow...

It ended in three days, but I observed carefully.

そう

That's right.

What should I say?

It's hard to put into words.

I'm not trying to be discriminatory, but...

"What's known as cultural maturity has been reached."

The person who no longer needed their family.

In other words, I still live within my family and among my loved ones.

With the living yankees.

The department store that is in between.

I think it might be worth analyzing in depth.

I think that's how it is.

For the sake of the future of department stores.

So, then.

Of course, it's research for writing the manuscript.

I'll take a little break for the Obon holiday.

The next manuscript will be in late August, I think.

It's a deadline, right?

Based on that analysis.

If time passes from here

There might be more things to consider.

What should I say?

My mind is also maturing.

There are probably various things to think about.

Even more easily understandable than what we were just talking about.

I think I can do it.

I was thinking a bit like that just now.

It was really hot, after all.

I have fallen ill.

I have no appetite at all.

"But paying such a price..."

I’m still satisfied, though.

I wonder if it was a trip for interviews that we could actually do.

In that way

I am thinking about it.

うーん

Hmm.

I guess that's about it.

うーん

Hmm.

Well, there are various things I want to talk about again.

You know…

If you stray over there...

また

Again

Anyway

The button is.

I wonder if I'll do it next.

So there's that.

I'll leave it at that for now.

Gifu

It's fun!

なんか

Something.

It's quite hard to find a reason to go.

From the perspective of a person from Tohoku, you know.

Planning a trip to Gifu is difficult.

Even if you plan it.

Hita Takayama and so on.

Even in Gifu.

When you say "sankanbu," that's related to that, right?

I think they are more from the Kansai region.

あの

Um...

Gifu City

It's already very close to Nagoya.

Even from a national perspective.

It's ranked number one in Japan.

It seems like it's the prefectural capital.

Nagoya and Gifu are

ああ

Ah.

But when I see that shuttered street in Gifu, you know...

It's not like I can do anything, really.

本当に

Really.

Many things.

I think so too.

What was the period of high economic growth?

I wonder what a bubble really is.

For us now

A shopping district of this size...

I guess it's really unnecessary, huh?

So should I take this to the revival?

That's why it's hot.

だから

So.

By going to Gifu

You can also enjoy Nagoya.

Probably cheaper than a hotel in Nagoya as well.

If there's anything that says I'm going to Gifu.

Maybe that's true.

Rather than someone who just says they lived there.

I think I have a fairly good understanding of it.

Please ask me something.

Which store is good?

What should I eat?

Where should we compete for the hotel?

Anyway, regarding the department store...

That's right.

そう

Yes.

That's the summary.
