これ何ですか?

What is this?

カスケード利用という言葉は林業だけで使われている言葉ではありませんが

The term "cascade utilization" is not used exclusively in forestry.

資源やエネルギーを1回だけの使い切りにするんじゃなくて

Instead of using resources and energy just once and throwing them away,

利用したことで性質が変わった資源や利用時に出る廃棄物を別の用途に使い

Using resources that have changed in nature due to utilization and repurposing waste generated during usage for other applications.

その後もさらに別の用途に生かしていくことです

The goal is to further utilize it for other purposes.

形を変えながら使い続けるってことですか?

Does that mean continuing to use it while changing its form?

そうですね

それを固めてシートにしたりとか

だからまあそれこそおむつだとか除染整理用品とか

条約で規制されている木材を不正 輸入しようとしたなんてニュース

News about attempting to illegally import timber regulated by treaty.

を見たんですけども このツルサイカチ族の木材ですね

I saw it, but this is the wood from the tsurusaikachi tribe.

これはワシントン条約で輸入が 規制されているんです

This is regulated by the Washington Convention for import.

どうやらギターの材料として使用 して販売するつもりだったそうです

It seems they were planning to use it as material for making guitars and sell it.

条約で規制されてない木材と偽 って輸入しようとしたそうなんですね

It seems they tried to import wood under false pretenses, claiming it wasn't regulated by the treaty.

まあダメですねこういうことを したらね

Well, that's not good if you do things like that.

ちなみになんですけどギターの 材料にとありましたけどギター

もちろんです。ボディやネックに使われる材料によって音も変わります。

最初はね、アルダーという種類がありますね。

At first, there is a type called alder.

聞いたことないけど、ギターだったけど全部オシャレに聞こえてきますけど。

I haven't heard it before, but it was a guitar and it all sounds stylish.

そうね、アルダー。

はい。これはね、重量は軽くて、中域に特徴があってバランスのいいサウンドと言われてます。

Yes. This is said to have a lightweight design, a characteristic mid-range, and a well-balanced sound.

比較的柔らかくて加工しやすいのが特徴です。

It is characterized by being relatively soft and easy to process.

現在でもストラトなどフェンダータイプのギターに使われてますね。

Even now, it's still used in Fender-type guitars like the Stratocaster.

じゃあ次にホワイトアッシュ。

ホワイトアッシュ。

これはカナダ産、北アメリカ産が中心で、70年代のフェンダーによく使用されてます。

This is primarily Canadian and North American produce, commonly used in Fender guitars from the 1970s.

ここ最近、アッシュは重量が重くて非常に硬い木なんで、低域、高音がしっかり出てくる特性があって、

Recently, ash is a very dense and hard wood, which has the characteristic of producing strong low and high frequencies.

そのため、多弦ギターなど低音を重視しながらも明瞭なサウンドを目指した楽器に使用されます。

Therefore, it is used in instruments aimed at achieving a clear sound while emphasizing low tones, such as multi-string guitars.

このさっきのアルダーとはまた逆で重量が重いんですね。

Unlike the alder from before, this one is heavy.

そう、ちょっと硬めなんでね。

Yes, it's a bit on the firm side.

野球のバットとかにも使われていくようなアッシュね。

It's ash, the kind that is also used for baseball bats.

タモの仲間ですね。

It's a relative of the tambo.

次にバスウッド。

Next is basswood.

これは柔らかくて囲しやすい木材で、素直なサウンドが特徴です。

This is a soft and easy-to-bend wood, characterized by its straightforward sound.

材自体が比較的安いんで、量産型ギターに使用されることが多いんですが、ハイエンドのギターにも採用されている木材です。

The material itself is relatively inexpensive, so it is often used in mass-produced guitars, but it is also a type of wood adopted in high-end guitars.

ハイエンドのギターってちょっとあんまピンとこないんですけど。

I don't really get high-end guitars.

高級なやつだよね。

It's a high-end one, right?

そうなんだ。

I see.

あと、ハードメイプ。

Also, hard maple.

これは音の立ち上がりやアタックが良くて、輪郭のはっきりとしたクリアーな特性です。

This has a good sound rise and attack, with a clear characteristic that has distinct outlines.

ずっしりとした重量があって、硬くて強度に優れた材です。

It has a heavy weight, is hard, and has excellent strength.

柔らかいものもあれば硬いものもあって、結構バラバラなんですよ。みんなに似た感じというわけじゃなくて。

There are both soft and hard things, and they are quite varied. It's not that they all have a similar feel.

そうね。やっぱり特徴の差をつけた方が音に差が出るっていうことですね。

That's right. It means that emphasizing the differences in characteristics will result in differences in sound.

で、あと他にこのマホガニー。

これは聞いたことありますね。

ギブソンのレスポールのバック材とか、フライングVなどに使われている木材です。

It is the type of wood used for the back of Gibson Les Pauls and in models like the Flying V.

豊かな中低域が特徴になるんですよね。

It is characterized by rich mid-range and low-frequency sounds.

なんかもう色々あるんですね。

There seems to be quite a lot going on.

そうですね。

That's right.

紹介したのはほんの一部で、まだまだ種類があるんですよ。

What I've introduced is just a small part, and there are still many more varieties.

ちなみにネックの部分にはハードメイプがあるんですよ。

By the way, the neck part is made of hard maple.

ハードメイプとか、マホガニーがよく使われています。

Hard maple and mahogany are commonly used.

実際に樋口さんもこのギターは作ったことあったりするんですか?

Has Mr. Higuchi ever actually made this guitar?

ギターはね、僕自身はないんだけど、最近僕の取引してる材木屋さん、エステックットって言って、木をちょっと焼くんですよ。

I don't have a guitar myself, but recently the lumberyard I deal with, called Estecott, burns the wood a little.

焼くんだ。

I'm going to bake.

オーブンで焼くの。

I will bake it in the oven.

へー、それやったらどう?

Hey, how about that?

専用のオーブンで焼くのよ。

It's baked in a special oven.

どうなるんですか?

What will happen?

そうすると、若干炭化して、色がね、こう、褐色になるんだけど、それがね、ちょっと軽い感じで、響きがいいっていうことで、ギターの材料に。

In that case, it becomes slightly carbonized, and the color turns brownish, but it has a somewhat light feel and a good resonance, which makes it suitable as a material for guitars.

とある大阪のメーカーは今それ使ってもらってて、国産のギターでやってたりとか。

A certain manufacturer in Osaka is currently using it, and they are making guitars in Japan.

じゃあなんかさっき言った、この種類の。

Well then, about what I mentioned earlier, this type of...

アルダーとか、そっちに近い感じだよね。

It feels similar to Alder or something close to that.

へー。

なんかそのまんま使うのもあるけど、そうやってまた一回加工、加工っていうか、なんか焼いてっていうか、やってからやるのもあるんだ。

There are some things that you can use just as they are, but there are also things that you process again, or rather, you kind of bake them after doing that.

そう。

はー、知らなかった。

Huh, I didn't know that.

だからギターってさ、ネックと指板って言ってフレット押すとこと、色が違うじゃん。

So, with a guitar, the neck and the fretboard, where you press the frets, are different colors, right?

違いますね。

That's not correct.

あれは、その、硬さの違うもんだったり。

That's something with a difference in hardness.

そうなんだ。

そう、いろんな木をミックスしてやってたりするよね。

Yes, they're mixing various types of wood.

へー、なんか全部一緒だと思ってました。

エコースティックとかだと、でもまあ、表面と裏は同じだけど、このボディの側は違ったりとかさ、ネックの裏とか、ね、指板はやっぱり違ったりとかするじゃない。

In the case of something like an acoustic-electric, the front and back are the same, but the side of the body might be different, you know? The back of the neck, and the fingerboard are definitely different, right?

うんうんうん。

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

こうやっていろんな違いがあるんですよね。

There are all sorts of differences like this, aren't there?

ちょっとなんか、自分もギター、クラシックとエレキとアコースティック持ってるんですけど、なんか実際どの着て使えたかちょっとわかんないから。

Well, I have a guitar too, a classical one, an electric one, and an acoustic one, but I'm not really sure which one I can actually use.

Haha.

ちょっとそこに注目したことがない。

I haven't focused on that there.

なんか、でも見てみてたかな。

Well, I was kind of watching it, I guess.

木ですってね。

It's made of wood, isn't it?

木でできてんだろうけど、みたいな。

It's probably made of wood, but...

だから、最近、最近さ、ギターって、なんていうの、フェンダーとか、ストラトバーとかね、あの辺のやつって、そのー、塗装がさ、めくれちゃって、傷ついたやつとかも流通したりしてるじゃない。

So, recently, you know, guitars like Fender or Stratocasters, those kinds of guitars, the paint tends to peel off, and there are also damaged ones that are being circulated, right?

ありますね。

Yes, there is.

めちゃくちゃ高いじゃん、何百万とか。

That's insanely expensive, like several hundred thousand or something.

うんうん。

Uh-huh.

あれは、結局あの、ヴァイオリンとかと同じ感覚になっちゃってて。

In the end, it's the same feeling as with the violin and such.

The tree is old.

Yeah.

古いとか、昔しか使えないこの木が、木の種類とかだったりするもんで。

This wood, which can only be used in olden times, is a matter of the type of wood it is.

そういうのがあるのか。

そう。だからこの年代の、この年式の、フェンダーはいくらとか。

Right. So, for this model year, the fender is worth this much, or something like that.

っていう風で、今、そのなんていうんだろうな、まあ中古じゃないけど、もうクラシックっていうか、もうプレミアが付いてやってるとか。

So, in that sense, right now, I don't know how to put it, but it's not exactly second-hand, more like classic, or it's getting to the point where it has a premium attached to it.

だから新しいものは全て、なんか、いいっていうわけじゃない。

時間が経っても、価値が上がるとか、価値を失わないっていうのが木の良さって、まあそういう風にも覚えてほしいじゃんね。

Even as time passes, the fact that it appreciates in value or doesn't lose its value is one of the good qualities of wood. I hope you remember it that way too.
